Chapter 107: Bewitched by My Sister p2

[Extracting: 7.9]

She settled down, waiting.

Having nothing on her, the system skipped the asset transfer, and her consciousness returned to her main body.

“Hoo…” she exhaled softly, not opening her eyes yet, but looking at the evolution retention interface.

「Please retain your evolution」
「1、【Thick Hide Lv.1 (White): Thickens and toughens your skin, slightly increasing defense】」
「2、【Mutated Regeneration Lv.1 (Purple): A mutated version of Regeneration Lv.1, granting healing properties to your bodily fluids and flesh】」
「3、【Bite Lv.1 (White): Strengthens your bite muscles, teeth, and claws】」

A stronger version of Regeneration?

Lin Jiayao thought of her other healing ability, [Symbiotic Link], which she had used on her sister.

Would this Mutated Regeneration enhance Symbiotic Link?

A decent healing evolution… better than nothing.

She wondered if continually upgrading her regeneration abilities would eventually allow her to recover from a gunshot wound in seconds.

Perhaps.

After selecting the evolution, she felt the familiar warmth spreading through her body and opened her eyes.

The familiar highway. Her sister, humming a tune, seemed to be in a good mood.

Seeing her sister’s expression, Lin Jiayao could guess what had happened.

“We’re out of Guangdong?” she asked.

“You’re awake,” Lin Xiwan smiled. “We’re out of Guangdong and into Southwest Province~”

“That’s good…” Lin Jiayao nodded and habitually activated Blood Crystal Vision, scanning the area, then, seeing no immediate threats, relaxed.

She wanted to test this Lv.1 Mutated Regeneration. She’d initially planned to use the Training Grounds, but then she remembered a perfect test subject.

Huayibai.

The injured little “daughter.”

“Yibai,” she called softly. “Can you hand me that pack of biscuits from the back?”

“Hmm? Okay, Mommy!” Huayibai seemed surprised that her “Mommy” had spoken to her.

It jumped down from the box, grabbed a pack of compressed biscuits, knelt behind the center console, offered it to Lin Jiayao, and then looked at her expectantly.

“Good girl.” Knowing Huayibai craved affection and praise, Lin Jiayao patted its head.

Huayibai beamed, its eyes crinkling into a happy smile.

Seeing its innocent expression, Lin Jiayao felt a pang of guilt.

Huayibai trusted her so completely, and here she was, about to use it as a test subject.

Well… it’s just a healing test, not anything harmful.

And I don’t have any blood crystals to give it anyway.

Convincing herself, she opened the biscuit package.

“Hungry? Want some water? It’ll be dry without water,” Lin Xiwan offered, hearing her sister’s movements.

“No, thank you.” Lin Jiayao shook her head, then took a bite of the biscuit.

Then, offering the bitten biscuit to Huayibai, she asked, “Want a bite?”

The biscuit now had a bit of her saliva on it, the amount so small that the faint, sweet scent was barely noticeable.

Huayibai, which had been confused as to why its “Mommy” would offer it something she knew it didn’t eat, stared at the biscuit, its eyes wide.

The seemingly ordinary biscuit, now with a strange, irresistible allure.

Every cell in its body screamed for it, craving whatever was on that bitten edge.

Its instincts told it this was… nourishment, a small amount, but enough to restore some of its strength.

Without hesitation, it bent down and licked the biscuit.

Lin Xiwan, humming a tune as she drove, suddenly noticed something odd about their conversation.

“Mommy… Yibai wants more…”

“Wait, here, you can have it.”

“What’s this sticky, slippery stuff? Yibai wants more…”

“How are you feeling now?”

“I feel… warm…”

If Lin Xiwan hadn’t glanced over and seen them just eating a biscuit, she would have suspected something… untoward was happening.

After the biscuit was gone, Lin Jiayao looked at her hands, surprised.

After choosing the Mutated Regeneration evolution, like the purple-skinned giant zombie, every part of her body now had healing properties.

She had become… like Tang Sanzang’s flesh, irresistible to demons.

She’d even tested it; even her hair had an alluring effect on Huayibai.

Oh no… had this evolution increased her attractiveness to zombies?

That would be troublesome.

It might provoke attacks from zombies that would normally ignore her.

And would this… ability… affect Awakened too?

She looked at her sister.

“Sister.”

“What is it?” Lin Xiwan slowed down slightly, turning to her sister.

Lin Jiayao hesitated, choosing her words carefully. “Do you… feel anything… strange… when you look at me?”

Lin Xiwan was taken aback. “Strange… how?”

“I don’t know…” Lin Jiayao shook her head, unsure how her body affected Huayibai, just a vague suspicion. “Like… do you… want to… eat me?”

“What?!”

“Screech—”

Lin Xiwan slammed on the brakes, the tires screeching, and turned to her sister, her face pale.

“W-why… why would you even think that?!” She reached out to touch her sister’s face but stopped midway.

“What has Sister done to make you think that?!”

“Sister just… likes to hug you while sleeping, likes to pinch your cheeks, rub your head, touch your tummy and back while you sleep, likes to bathe you…”

As she spoke, she realized how… incriminating… her words sounded, and she trailed off, her mouth agape, stunned.

The more she spoke, the more she sounded like… someone who might actually… eat their sister.

And Lin Jiayao, looking at her stunned sister, was speechless.

“What are you even thinking about, Sister?” she sighed, pinching Lin Xiwan’s waist to snap her out of it. “I meant… eat… like… food!”

Lin Xiwan finally understood.

“You meant… eat? Like… how zombies eat people?” she blinked, asking for clarification.

“What else?” Lin Jiayao gave her a look. “What kind of ‘eat’ were you thinking about?”

“Yibai wants to eat!” Huayibai chimed in from the back.

Lin Jiayao pushed Huayibai’s head back down.

Children should be seen, not heard!

Lin Xiwan coughed awkwardly. “Of course not… why would you even ask that?”

“You really… don’t?” Lin Jiayao asked again, wanting to be absolutely sure.

This was important. If her sister, an Awakened, wasn’t affected by her, then other Awakened wouldn’t be either.

Then she wouldn’t have to worry about interacting with other Awakened.

To confirm, she reached out and, placing her hand on her sister’s neck, pulled her closer.

“Eh? What are you—”

Although curious, Lin Xiwan leaned in, following her sister’s pull.

Their foreheads and noses touched, their warm breaths mingling.

“Now?” Lin Jiayao asked, looking into her sister’s eyes.

Since her Mutated Regeneration was only Lv.1, the attraction wasn’t as strong as the purple-skinned zombie’s; she needed to be closer.

At this range, there shouldn’t be any misinterpretations.

Being so close, her sister’s scent filling her senses, Lin Xiwan’s gaze darted around, flustered.

“Sister?”

“Ah?” Lin Xiwan, finally focusing on her sister’s eyes, said, “Yes?…”

“Focus… do you feel anything strange?” Lin Jiayao added, remembering the sensations she’d felt while controlling the fifth zombie. “A sweetness, a floral fragrance… anything like that?”

“Sweetness?” Lin Xiwan’s face flushed slightly. “Yes… and a faint fragrance… I can’t describe it, it’s just… pleasant, calming… similar to your usual scent…”

Being this close, her sister’s breath on her face, made her feel strangely… flustered.

And the alluring scent emanating from her sister…

It made her want to lick her, to taste her, to…

Suddenly, Lin Xiwan pulled away, closing her eyes, her hand pressing against her temple, her body trembling slightly, speechless.

What… what was that?

Why… why would she have such thoughts about Lin Jiayao?!

No, this wasn’t right… what was happening to her…?

She had never had such… inappropriate thoughts before.

That was her little sister!

Lin Xiwan pinched her own cheek hard, until it turned red.

Her sudden reaction startled Lin Jiayao, who quickly reached out and stopped her.

“What’s wrong, Sister?” she asked, her voice filled with concern.

They’d been talking just fine, and then her sister had suddenly… freaked out.

Could that healing ability also cause… arousal?

Or had it really made her sister want to… eat her?

“I just…” Lin Xiwan opened her mouth, but couldn’t find the words.

How could she say it?

That her sister, her beloved, adoring younger sister, whom she’d protected and cared for all these years… she was now… attracted to her?

Her sister would be terrified… She was completely vulnerable, and if Lin Xiwan wanted to… even Huayibai, an Awakened, couldn’t stop her.

“You… really wanted to… eat me?” Lin Jiayao asked, looking at her sister, guessing the reason for her distress.

Her sister was likely feeling guilty about those… urges.

After all, if she herself, looking at her sister, suddenly felt a craving to… devour her… she, too, would feel horrified and guilty.

Looking at her sister’s pained expression, her reddened eyes, Lin Jiayao felt a pang of sympathy.

It’s my fault… I shouldn’t have tested my ability on her… I should have found another Awakened…

“It’s okay, Sis,” she said softly, placing her hand on her sister’s shoulder. “It’s… it’s part of the ability I Awakened… along with the eye thing… It was just… too weak before, I didn’t realize…”

“A-ability?” Lin Xiwan repeated the word, as if in disbelief. “An Awakened ability?”

It was possible for an Awakened to develop multiple abilities, but rarely across such drastically different categories.

According to Survivor’s Light’s research, the probability of a secondary ability evolving was 1 in 10.

And a tertiary ability, 1 in 100.

Out of ten Awakened, only one would develop a secondary ability. And out of a hundred with secondary abilities, only one would develop a tertiary ability.

The most recorded so far had been a Survivor’s Light member with three abilities, all mental-related.

It seemed… her sister was a natural dual-Awakened, but they hadn’t considered that possibility before.

“Dual-Awakened? What’s your second ability?” A flicker of hope in Lin Xiwan’s voice. “Charm?”

If it was Charm, she would feel much better. It would mean she had simply been affected by her sister’s ability, not her own twisted desires…

But her sister shook her head.

“No,” Lin Jiayao replied. “It seems to be… a healing ability. My… my body, my blood… even my skin… they… they attract blood crystals and… and heal…”

Lin Xiwan’s eyes widened in realization.

So, her earlier urges to… lick and… consume… weren’t driven by lust, but by a genuine desire to… heal?

Thank goodness… not Charm… if it had been Charm… it would have been a disaster…

Lin Xiwan breathed a sigh of relief, forgiving herself for the… inappropriate thoughts.

It was just the effect of an unexpected ability; it wasn’t her true desire.

Once she knew about it, she could resist it… such a newly awakened ability couldn’t affect a prepared C-rank Awakened…

Of course, Lin Jiayao didn’t know what was going through her sister’s mind.

She still thought her sister was feeling guilty about wanting to… bite her.

“It’s okay, Sister. Look at you, you’re about to cry.” Lin Jiayao smiled gently, wiping a tear from her sister’s eye. “You’re a C-rank Awakened. What are you afraid of?”

“I’m not afraid for myself, I’m afraid for you,” Lin Xiwan said, taking her sister’s hand. “I was afraid you would be hurt.”

“I was so scared… that I would… do something to you, and you wouldn’t be able to resist… I was afraid… that you would hate me, despise me…”

Lin Xiwan wiped her own eyes, her voice trembling slightly.

Hearing this, Lin Jiayao’s heart warmed… indeed, if, in that state, her sister had suddenly started biting her… it would have been traumatizing.

But now she understood; it wasn’t her sister’s intention.

“It’s okay, Sister. I would never hate you, or despise you… no matter what you do to me,” she said with a smile.

Without her sister, she wouldn’t have survived the past five years; her sister had given her life; a few bites wouldn’t change that, even nine or ten bites wouldn’t change that.

But her words seemed to have an unexpected effect on her sister, whose face flushed again.

“W-what are you talking about?” Lin Xiwan feigned anger, pushed her sister’s hand away, restarted the car, and slammed on the gas, not speaking, even opening the window for fresh air.

She seemed… flustered.

What’s wrong with Sister…? I didn’t say anything inappropriate… Lin Jiayao, puzzled, but seeing that her sister seemed to have recovered, didn’t press further.

And Huayibai, in the back, listening to their conversation, mumbled softly, “Why can Daddy eat Mommy, but Yibai can’t…?”

For Huayibai, “eat” meant… literally eat.

Of course, it wouldn’t actually… eat her “Mommy,” not without permission.
