Chapter 50: The Only One I Love
The wind rustled through the bamboo leaves, creating a soothing melody.
“…Don’t mind her. My mother didn’t mean anything by it.” As they walked along the forest path, Luo Qiaoqiao trailed behind Chen Yin, her hands clasped behind her back, her voice hesitant. “As the Vice Sect Master of the Heavenly Net Sect, she has to maintain a certain stance.”
Chen Yin nodded. “I understand. I’m not offended.”
Luo Qiaoqiao gently took his hand. “I’m glad you’re not angry.”
“You have no idea how worried I was when you fell! I regret not jumping down with you.”
“If you had dared to jump, I would have spanked you so hard you wouldn’t be able to sit for a week.” Chen Yin threatened playfully.
Luo Qiaoqiao stuck her tongue out and mumbled:
“Then why is it okay for that blue stocking to jump down with you…?”
Let’s not be jealous over such a strange situation, okay?
She changed the subject and asked accusingly, “Tell me honestly, what did you do with her down there?”
“Do… what could we possibly do?” Chen Yin averted his gaze, feeling a little guilty. “Two seriously injured people, we were lucky to even survive.”
“You didn’t do anything?”
“Besides healing, we didn’t do anything.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
Luo Qiaoqiao turned her head away, half-convinced, and snorted. “Fine.”
“I don’t want that blue stocking getting ahead of me.”
“So why do you call her ‘blue stocking’?” Chen Yin asked curiously.
“Because she’s always dressed in blue.” Luo Qiaoqiao blinked. “And she’s so dull and cold, always with a frown on her face like a smelly sock.”
Chen Yin felt awkward.
…Crap.
Now that she mentioned it, it was a bit accurate.
Of course, only during the day. At night, in the cave, Shen Shuanglian’s expressions were quite varied.
But he certainly wouldn’t say that out loud.
The stream babbled merrily as they walked through the bamboo forest. Luo Qiaoqiao gracefully landed on a rock by the stream, her bright red dress a vibrant splash of color against the green backdrop.
Chen Yin sat beside her, offering his shoulder as a pillow without a word.
“…Can you tell me?” Luo Qiaoqiao asked softly, leaning against his shoulder.
“Tell you what?”
“Why did you speak up for that woman named Yin Mengwan?”
She hesitated. “Do you… know her?”
Chen Yin was silent for a moment, then nodded slowly. “I guess… you could say we know each other.”
Luo Qiaoqiao’s lips curled into a slight pout, seemingly unhappy.
“Why are you such a flirt?”
“If I weren’t, I wouldn’t have met you.” Chen Yin shrugged.
“What a scumbag thing to say.”
“Do you want to hear something even worse?”
“Tell me.”
Chen Yin cupped her face in his hands and said seriously, “Honey, I just want to enter your body, not your life.”
“…That’s disgusting.” Luo Qiaoqiao looked at him with disgust.
“Right?”
“But you had a chance to enter my body, and you let it slip away.”
Chen Yin choked on his words and coughed. “Uh, maybe that means I’m not a complete scumbag yet.”
“Tch,” Luo Qiaoqiao rolled her eyes, a flicker of sadness hidden beneath her playful expression. “You just have the desire but not the courage, and you’re still acting so smug about it.”
Chen Yin decided to ignore her, his thick skin coming in handy.
“But although I know her, I didn’t save her solely because of some childish notion of saving a damsel in distress.”
He said slowly, “I need her help with something.”
“What is it?”
“Have you heard of her sect, Changli Palace?”
Luo Qiaoqiao looked confused. “I don’t think so… Is there something wrong with it?”
Chen Yin pondered for a moment, then explained, “My Junior Sister… might have had some connection with that sect before she came to Mount Yu.”
“But that sect was destroyed over a decade ago, and all related information seems to have been deliberately erased.”
“I have no other choice but to rely on this mysterious Miss Yin.” He shrugged.
Luo Qiaoqiao stared at her toes for a while, then suddenly looked up. “How about I ask my parents?”
“They’ve been in the cultivation world for so many years. If Changli Palace was a well-known sect, they should know something about it.”
Chen Yin nodded. “That would be great if possible.”
“Of course, if there’s something they can’t reveal, don’t force them.”
“I’ll find the answers myself.” He said seriously.
Luo Qiaoqiao bit her lip gently and asked hesitantly, “Is this… very important to you?”
“Very important.”
Chen Yin said softly, his gaze fixed on the path ahead. “I only have two family members left on Mount Yu. I have to get to the bottom of this matter concerning my Junior Sister.”
“She’s like you to your parents, Sect Master Mu. She’s a very important family member to me.”
Luo Qiaoqiao’s eyes softened, and she whispered, “…Okay.”
“But since I helped you, is there a reward?”
Chen Yin sighed helplessly. “What kind of reward do you want? I’m broke, you know.”
“It’s okay, you can pay with your body. I’m quite fond of young and strong men like you.”
Luo Qiaoqiao chuckled, her slender finger gently lifting his chin, her gaze seductive.
“Then why don’t you just hire a male escort?”
“Ordinary pretty boys can’t satisfy me. I need someone like you. You’re my type.”
Chen Yin couldn’t win against her and could only surrender. “Alright, Sister, stop teasing me. You really want Sect Master Mu to kill me, don’t you?”
“Coward.” Luo Qiaoqiao pouted. “If you were bold enough, you could just give her a grandchild. Then see if she dares to touch you.”
“…Wow. Is that what they call ‘the bolder the move, the greater the reward’?”
After her teasing, Luo Qiaoqiao’s smile faded slightly, and she said softly:
“I’m not that greedy. I don’t need any other reward.”
“Just promise me, next time, don’t be so reckless, okay?”
“I don’t want to experience the feeling of watching you fall again.” Her eyes were filled with sadness.
Chen Yin was silent for a moment, then nodded slowly.
“Do you know why my mother came?”
She said seriously, “I called her.”
“If we couldn’t find you, I would have asked my mother to take people to the Mist Spirit Sect and demand Elder Mo Jie’s life. Or she would attack them.”
Chen Yin chuckled wryly. “It wouldn’t have come to that, right? Just for an insignificant cultivator like me—”
“I know, in the eyes of others, my choice might seem reckless and unreasonable. Starting a war between two major sects for a single cultivator doesn’t seem worth it.”
“But some things can’t be calculated like that.”
Luo Qiaoqiao shook her head, her gaze fixed on Chen Yin.
“I’m my parents’ only daughter. In their eyes, I’m definitely more important than the Heavenly Net Sect.”
“Similarly, you’re the only one I love.”
“In my eyes, you’re definitely more important than me.”
