Girl Doesn’t Die in Fairytale Town: Chapter 6 – How Wonderful
Luo Yan didn’t take her usual route home but instead turned towards another gate of the manor—this way was closer to little Tini’s residence.
It had to be said that Mrs. Natalie’s husband had indeed left her a substantial inheritance.
The manor covered a vast area, boasting three luxurious residences and a courtyard filled with all sorts of flowers, meticulously maintained by ten gardeners.
Little Tini’s favorite activity was having Luo Yan accompany her in the courtyard as she sketched and painted her little masterpieces.
Luo Yan’s cottage was closer to the town market for easy errands, while little Tini’s residence was located deeper within the manor, closer to the bustling town center.
As Luo Yan hobbled along, pushing the cart with labored breaths, she caught a glimpse of a small golden spot near the iron gate from the corner of her eye. She knew it was little Tini.
“Little, little Tini… don’t be afraid, it’s me.”
Luo Yan said breathlessly, using her cane almost as a crutch to support her body, barely able to stand.
Even though Mrs. Natalie had previously had a cement road built from the manor to the town, and Ling Qi’s weight was practically negligible, making the cart easy to push, Luo Yan had still nearly exhausted all her energy.
The small golden spot quickly retreated, and moments later, a petite figure in a dress darted out from the gate and rushed towards Luo Yan, burying her bright golden hair in her embrace.
“Luo Yan… Sister…”
Little Tini’s voice was timid, and she refused to lift her head.
It seemed that little Tini had been frightened after waking up and not finding her.
Although little Tini was around the same age as her, only two or three years younger, she suffered from a severe mental illness, making her both withdrawn and extremely dependent on others.
Previously, the object of her dependence had only been her mother, Mrs. Natalie. Now, there was Luo Yan.
Luo Yan stroked her golden curls and tapped the ground with her cane.
“Let go first, little Tini. Luo Yan Sister still has things to do.”
“Okay.”
Little Tini nuzzled her head downwards slightly and then released her tight grip on Luo Yan, though her small hand still clung tightly to the corner of her clothes.
“Good, little Tini is so well-behaved.”
The corners of Luo Yan’s lips curved upwards slightly. She didn’t dislike this “job.” Little Tini was more like family to her.
Little Tini’s mother, Mrs. Natalie, was also very kind to her, even going so far as to invite Luo Yan, a servant, to live in the luxurious residence, though Luo Yan firmly refused.
Luo Yan felt she didn’t deserve so much kindness.
That’s why Luo Yan’s cottage was in the servants’ quarters. She felt this life was already happy enough.
But the current problem…
The curve of Luo Yan’s lips flattened slightly. Her gaze fell on the wooden cart and the still-unconscious Ling Qi. Her expression became troubled.
“What… what’s going on?”
The previously clear image of Ling Qi in her vision was now covered in scribbled colors, a messy jumble of red and green, seemingly representing her wounds.
“The outsider is starting to become blurry too… Could it be… a problem with the town?”
Just as this thought crossed Luo Yan’s mind, little Tini tugged on the corner of her clothes, interrupting her thoughts.
“Luo Yan Sister… who is she?”
Little Tini pointed at Ling Qi, a hint of vigilance and unease in her voice.
“She… she is—”
Luo Yan faltered, momentarily unable to think of how to introduce Ling Qi.
Little Tini stared intently at Luo Yan, her blue eyes filled with anticipation as she waited for Luo Yan’s answer.
Luo Yan thought for a moment and decided not to mention the encounter, which might have been just a misunderstanding.
“She’s an outsider I happened to meet on the road. Look, she’s covered in dust… and so badly injured.”
Hearing Luo Yan’s words, little Tini asked softly,
“Then what are we going to do? Is Luo Yan Sister going to save her?”
“…We can’t just leave her to die,” Luo Yan said, stroking little Tini’s hair. She felt it necessary to instill some kindness in this still-naive young lady.
“Think about it, if Mrs. Natalie and the uncles and aunts in town hadn’t saved me, little Tini wouldn’t have Luo Yan Sister now.”
Little Tini nodded, seemingly understanding. Just as Luo Yan felt a sense of accomplishment as a makeshift educator, little Tini suddenly asked,
“But why did Luo Yan Sister tie her up?”
Little Tini’s gaze shifted to Ling Qi, her tone turning cold.
“Is it because… she wanted to hurt Luo Yan Sister?”
“…”
“Ah! Well, not really,” Luo Yan quickly came up with an explanation. “I was just thinking, what if she’s a bad person? So I tied her up first and then we’ll help her. That way, even if she’s a bad person, we won’t be afraid.”
“Oh, okay.”
An almost imperceptible look flashed across little Tini’s eyes, and then she replied weakly.
Just then, Ling Qi on the cart stirred slightly. Little Tini flinched and quickly hid behind Luo Yan.
“Let’s carry her to the storeroom first. I remember there are some medicines and bandages the servants keep there. We’ll give her some simple first aid and then go find Dr. Messier.”
Luo Yan said quickly, noticing that Ling Qi’s condition seemed to be deteriorating.
The scribbles that had initially appeared only on Ling Qi’s wounds had now spread all over her body, a long shadow of white, black, and red, rising and falling slightly with her weak breaths and pained groans.
Little Tini nodded vigorously and moved closer, wanting to help Luo Yan push the cart.
But just then, a tall, burly figure suddenly appeared beside them, wearing a tall white hat and holding a long-handled shovel.
“Oh, Mr. Root, you’re just in time,” Luo Yan’s eyes lit up. She recognized this burly figure as the manor’s head chef, Root, based on these characteristics. “Come and give us a hand, help us push her to the storeroom!”
Root nodded slightly but didn’t speak.
He walked over and effortlessly lifted the cart with just one hand, not needing any help from Luo Yan or little Tini, and easily pushed it forward.
Following Luo Yan and little Tini’s instructions, Root pushed the cart towards the storeroom.
“How wonderful.”
Luo Yan looked at Root’s brisk figure and said enviously.
“How wonderful.”
Little Tini seemed to be mimicking Luo Yan, but when Luo Yan instinctively looked at her, she found little Tini was staring at her.
Their eyes met for a moment, ending with little Tini hiding behind Luo Yan’s arm again.
