Chapter 26 p2: Transmigrated as the Abusive Story’s Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character
Xu Qing, still reeling from his argument with Xin Wanyin, found comfort in Liu Yue’s cheerful presence. The “reunited” childhood sweethearts quickly rekindled their friendship.
A week passed, and as their relationship deepened, Xin Yao was pleased. The money had been well spent.
But she had a nagging feeling that she had forgotten something.
Until Sunday afternoon, as she was reviewing the mission progress, a phone call startled her.
It was Pei Yu, whom she hadn’t seen in a while.
“Hello?” she answered, her voice slightly dazed. “What’s up?”
Pei Yu was silent for a moment before speaking.
“It’s Sunday.”
Sunday?
Sunday…
Suddenly, it hit Xin Yao. Sunday! It was the day of their weekly rendezvous, the day she had agreed to help Pei Yu through her heat cycle!
Pei Yu’s possessive phase might be over, but her heat cycle wasn’t.
If Pei Yu hadn’t called, she would have completely forgotten.
Xin Yao sat up abruptly. “I’m so sorry! I’ve been so busy lately!”
Pei Yu had already sensed that she had been forgotten.
But with the end of her possessive phase, her rationality had returned. She wouldn’t force herself on Xin Yao as she had before.
She was silent for a moment, then replied, her voice calm and even.
“It’s fine.”
“Should I come to you, or would you prefer to come to my place?”
“Either…” Xin Yao paused, glancing at a message that had just popped up on her phone. She let out a small gasp of surprise, then changed her mind.
“I’ll come to you. Don’t bother picking me up. I’ll be there soon.”
She hung up and rushed to get ready.
As she hurried to Pei Yu’s apartment, Xin Yao realized it was her first time visiting.
A strange nervousness washed over her.
The word “home” held a special meaning for Xin Yao. It was a place of safety and comfort.
Entering someone’s home was like entering their most intimate space.
Especially for a territorial creature like Pei Yu, whose home was practically a fortress.
But now, it was open to Xin Yao, welcoming her in.
She was about to step into Pei Yu’s home, into the den of a dangerous snake.
Her heart skipped a beat, her toes curling slightly.
It felt as if, with one more step, she would be captured by the snake, entangled in its coils.
Standing outside the door, looking at the cold, impersonal surface, Xin Yao couldn’t ignore the reality of what was about to happen.
They had been intimate before, but she still felt nervous.
As she stood there, lost in thought, the door opened.
Warm light spilled out, illuminating the figure standing in the doorway.
Pei Yu, dressed in a gray loungewear set, her fair skin glowing in the soft light, looked cool and elegant.
Xin Yao was startled.
Seeing her surprised expression, Pei Yu’s gaze softened.
“I smelled your scent. Why didn’t you come in?”
Xin Yao snapped out of her daze.
“Oh, right! Coming!”
She followed Pei Yu inside, but instead of the expected passionate embrace, or being carried off to the bedroom, she was met with silence.
Pei Yu, usually so eager during her heat cycle, was unusually quiet.
Xin Yao sat beside her on the large, comfortable sofa, glancing at her profile.
Was she angry?
Because Xin Yao had forgotten about their appointment?
It was Xin Yao’s fault, so she should be the one to initiate contact.
She scooted closer to Pei Yu on the sofa, inch by inch.
Just as she reached Pei Yu’s side, Pei Yu turned to ask her if she wanted anything to drink.
Xin Yao, seizing the opportunity, kissed her.
The unexpected kiss, slightly too forceful, made Pei Yu’s eyes widen in surprise, their jade-like color shimmering in the soft light.
Xin Yao, embarrassed, pulled away, turning her head to avoid Pei Yu’s gaze.
Pei Yu opened her mouth to speak.
Just then, Xin Yao turned back, her hand reaching out to grab Pei Yu’s wrist, her neck flushed.
“So… are we doing this?”
The three simple words ignited a fire in Pei Yu’s eyes, her pupils narrowing into reptilian slits. She captured Xin Yao’s hand, her voice husky.
“Yaoyao?”
Xin Yao, aware of the boldness of her words, looked into Pei Yu’s eyes, her gaze soft and apologetic.
“It’s my fault. I’ve been so busy lately that I completely forgot. Please don’t be angry.”
So, that was what she was worried about.
The intensity in Pei Yu’s eyes softened, but the heat of her desire still burned brightly.
She leaned down and kissed Xin Yao softly.
“I could never be angry with you.”
“I just thought… that you were avoiding me because of last time. That you disliked me.”
“What? No, of course not,” Xin Yao said, looking at Pei Yu’s slightly dejected expression. “I told you I didn’t mind. Why would you think that?”
“Mm-hmm,” Pei Yu murmured, pulling Xin Yao into her arms.
Pei Yu had never understood human emotions, finding them messy and illogical.
But the past few days, with no word from Xin Yao, she had been filled with a mix of anticipation, anxiety, and longing, finally understanding what it meant to miss someone.
She had missed Xin Yao, terribly.
Her arms tightened around Xin Yao, as if wanting to meld their bodies together. She kissed Xin Yao’s ear, her voice soft.
“Don’t ignore me again.”
“Mm…” Xin Yao tried to respond, but her body tensed, a shiver running down her spine, leaving her speechless.
It was so sudden, so unexpected.
And then Pei Yu’s lips were on hers, her kiss demanding and possessive, leaving Xin Yao breathless and trapped.
Instinctively, she tried to push Pei Yu away.
But Pei Yu, anticipating her resistance, softened her kiss, her tongue tracing Xin Yao’s lips, a gentle, seductive tease.
Xin Yao felt like she was floating among clouds, adrift in a warm current.
But it was a trap.
As Xin Yao relaxed, Pei Yu’s kisses trailed down her neck, to her collarbone, her teeth gently tugging at her clothes.
Xin Yao, lost in the moment, her mind hazy, clung to Pei Yu’s neck, her eyes half-closed.
Her grip weakened, her body slumping against the sofa.
Her earlier fantasy had come true. They were making love in Pei Yu’s home, not even bothering to reach the bedroom.
And Pei Yu, despite her claims of not being angry, was clearly eager, her desire too strong to wait.
She kissed Xin Yao with a renewed intensity, pouring all her pent-up longing and frustration into their embrace, showing Xin Yao, with every touch, how much she had missed her.
Just then, it started to rain outside.
Xin Yao’s moans were muffled by the sound of the rain, rising and falling with the rhythm of the storm.
Pei Yu kissed her tenderly, her voice a husky whisper against Xin Yao’s ear.
“Xin Yao.”
“I missed you so much.”
Even now, the usually emotionless demon, taught by Xin Yao, felt the pangs of longing.
When Xin Yao woke up, it was almost dark.
She hadn’t woken up naturally. Curled up on the narrow sofa, wrapped in a blanket and nestled in Pei Yu’s arms, she had been startled by the ringing of her phone.
She grabbed her phone, her eyes still blurry with sleep, then sat up abruptly, scrambling to get dressed.
Pei Yu, who didn’t need to sleep after their intimacy, also sat up.
“What’s wrong? Is something the matter?”
“Yes, yes,” Xin Yao said, hurriedly putting on her clothes, holding up her phone. “Something came up. I have to go.”
“What is it?” Pei Yu also stood up. “It’s raining. I’ll drive you.”
Xin Yao, already dressed, waved her hand dismissively.
“No, it’s okay. My secretary is picking me up. Don’t worry about it.”
She seemed genuinely in a hurry, turning to leave.
“Bye, bye!”
Pei Yu instinctively reached out, as if to stop her, but she didn’t.
Her fingers brushed against Xin Yao’s coat, then closed around empty air.
She watched as Xin Yao hurried away, her coat billowing around her like a white butterfly, a fleeting visitor who had stirred chaos in Pei Yu’s world, then left just as quickly.
The door closed behind her with a soft click, and Pei Yu’s cold, empty apartment fell silent once more.
She leaned back against the sofa, inhaling the lingering scent of Xin Yao, the scent of their intimacy, her eyes flickering in the dim light.
But as time passed, the scent faded, replaced by the chill of the empty room.
Pei Yu sat there, looking at the empty space beside her, then at the rain outside.
She closed her eyes.
Alone again.
This was her normal state, yet why did it feel so different now?
Was this what humans called loneliness?
She sat there in silence for a long time.
Then, suddenly, she opened her eyes, sitting up straight, her gaze fixed on the door.
One, two, three.
“Ding-dong.”
The doorbell rang.
Pei Yu grabbed a coat and walked towards the door.
She paused for a moment before opening it.
The sound of rain and the dim light from the hallway spilled into the room, illuminating Xin Yao, standing there in her white coat.
She was smiling, her eyes bright.
“Ta-da! Surprise!”
She held up a large box, shaking it playfully.
“Did you think I left? Surprise! I didn’t!”
Her words brought the room back to life, chasing away the silence and stillness.
Pei Yu looked at her, her eyes softening.
“Why are you back?”
Xin Yao grinned, holding up the cake box.
“Your butler told me it’s your birthday! So I went to get you a present.”
“Happy birthday, Pei Yu! I hope you’ll be happy every day!”
Birthday.
Ah, right. It was her birthday.
But for Pei Yu, it wasn’t a day worth celebrating.
She had never celebrated her birthday before. No one remembered, no one cared.
The day of her birth had been a day of disgust and revulsion for someone, a day of tragedy, not a day to be celebrated.
But today, someone had braved the wind and rain, arriving at her doorstep with a smile, just to celebrate her birthday.
Perhaps her birth wasn’t so terrible after all.
And in that moment, she received the best birthday gift she could have asked for.
Not the cake, not the birthday wishes.
But Xin Yao, dispelling her loneliness.
Her butterfly had returned.
