The Vampire Eldest Miss Thinks I Like Her 29

Chapter 29: The Suitcase is Also an Accessory

The vampires were incredibly efficient. On the second night, while Adele attended the year-end gathering for first-year students, the headmaster began announcing the students’ grades. It was only because there weren’t many students that the headmaster could announce each grade individually. If it were like Jasmine’s previous life, where a grade level had three to four hundred students, the headmaster would be reading until who knows when.

That’s right, Jasmine was also present at the year-end gathering held in the church. Just like at the welcoming ceremony, she was sitting on a beam. She even chose the same beam and the same spot. Not content with just sitting there, Jasmine swung her legs back and forth.

Hearing the headmaster announce the rankings from lowest to highest, Jasmine realized that grades were equally important in vampire society. Those who scored well would be rewarded at home, while those who scored poorly, although they wouldn’t be spanked by their parents (after all, they were all nobles, and it would be too embarrassing to spank a grown child), would definitely not escape a scolding.

If a maid accidentally witnessed a spanking and mentioned it to other maids, who then told their masters, the student would be mortified for the entire six years of school.

They wouldn’t be physically punished, but a verbal lashing was inevitable.

As a top student, Adele naturally didn’t have this worry. Both Jasmine and vampires had excellent memories. Jasmine didn’t remember the names of all the first-year students, but she remembered the total number. By counting as the names were read out, when Golden’s name was called, Jasmine naturally knew: Golden was second, so the first place could only be Adele.

She looked down at Adele. Because of the angle, Jasmine couldn’t see Adele’s expression clearly, but judging from her posture and straight back, she knew that Adele must be feeling very smug. In contrast, the atmosphere around Golden was rather gloomy.

As expected, the headmaster announced Adele’s name, declaring her the top student for the semester, and invited her to give a speech. Adele rose from her seat and gracefully walked onto the stage. With a smile on her face, she calmly began her speech.

Adele had prepared her speech the night before, knowing about the school tradition. She never considered the possibility of not getting first place and was determined to give this speech.

She did indeed get first place and stood on the stage, addressing all the first-year students, talking about her efforts this semester. Jasmine wondered if Golden, as the second-place student, had ever thought about the possibility of getting first place, whether she had prepared a speech last night.

If not, it meant Golden had some self-awareness, knowing that she couldn’t surpass Adele. If she had prepared one, then it was all for naught, and Jasmine would only gloat. Although Golden’s maid hadn’t tried to bully her, whenever they met in the dining hall, Golden’s maid always looked down on her with an air of superiority.

Now that her master had been defeated, Jasmine only felt happy.

She was also happy for her own young miss for getting first place. She had a bit of a motherly feeling towards Adele, and knowing that she hadn’t been surpassed by Golden, she even wanted to clap her hands on the spot. But she couldn’t make a sound. Vampires had sharp ears, and the headmaster was also present. He had lived for who knows how many years. An adult vampire, in itself, represented power.

Jasmine could only clap softly when Adele finished her speech and the other vampire students started applauding. She even clapped silently.

After the speech, the students bid each other farewell, and Adele would return to her room to prepare for departure. Seeing this, Jasmine left the hall first and returned to the room. She placed her suitcase next to Adele’s and sat in the living room, waiting for Adele to return.

She didn’t wait long before she heard Adele’s footsteps. Adele returned to the room and changed into a different outfit. Finally free from the school uniform, Adele didn’t want to wear it anywhere else. After changing into her own clothes, she looked at Jasmine.

Jasmine had also changed into her casual clothes, still in the black-dominated color scheme of her maid uniform. Most of Adele’s clothes were also this color. She liked black. Not only because her family name, “Blake,” had the meaning of black, but she also personally loved the color.

Moreover… Jasmine’s hair and eyes were also black.

Jasmine was about to pick up their suitcases when Adele, after putting her uniform into her suitcase, casually lifted her own suitcase. Jasmine’s suitcase was definitely not heavy. It only contained a few sets of clothes and personal belongings, and the weight was like a feather to her.

But in Adele’s eyes, Jasmine was the epitome of fragility. Making such a delicate human carry two large suitcases would weigh on Adele’s conscience. As they walked out of the room, they could see many other students and maids in the hallway, also preparing to leave.

Among them, these two were the strangest pair. Others were all maids carrying two large suitcases, one in each hand. Some students even had more belongings, requiring their maids to carry them on their shoulders and make multiple trips. But in this duo, Adele was carrying a large suitcase herself.

Adele had relatively little luggage compared to other noble young ladies. Even so, it was still far more than Jasmine’s, so Adele’s suitcase was also larger. She was carrying the large one herself, while the maid behind her carried a small one. If people didn’t know Adele and couldn’t distinguish their status from their clothes, they might have mistaken Jasmine for the young miss.

Seeing this, Miss Golden even flipped her shimmering golden hair, “A Blake actually carrying her own suitcase. Don’t you have any servants? Oh, I forgot, your servant is just a fragile human. She definitely can’t be as capable as my maid, who can carry five suitcases at once!”

Hearing Golden’s words, Jasmine’s gaze fell on the maid behind her.

Miss Golden wasn’t exaggerating when she said “five suitcases.” It was the truth. The maid was actually carrying five suitcases, stacked high, completely obscuring her from view. Jasmine had always thought such a scene could only appear in anime, but now she had encountered it in real life.

Jasmine looked up, feeling like the suitcases were about to reach the ceiling.

Hearing Miss Golden’s provocation, Adele naturally retaliated. She had her own logic. Adele snorted, “A noble young lady would also care about the appearance of her maid. With your maid like this, her face completely hidden, those who don’t know might think that the Golden family can’t even afford a proper maid and has to make one carry so many suitcases.”

“And how embarrassing. A noble young lady followed not by a similarly graceful maid, but by a pile of suitcases. It’s laughable.”

This logic sounded a bit strange, but it actually made sense. Imagine a dignified young lady walking ahead with her head held high, followed not by a similarly graceful but slightly humbler maid, but by a walking pile of suitcases. It was indeed a comical scene.

As Adele described it, Golden seemed to realize this as well, her face flushing red. Adele wasn’t done yet. She waved her free hand behind her, gesturing for Golden to look at her own maid.

“Look, this is my maid!” Jasmine stood there gracefully, carrying her suitcase in both hands. Dressed in a black casual outfit, her hair neatly styled, her face delicate and pretty. When Adele gestured for Golden to look at her, Jasmine obediently lowered her eyes and bowed her head. Her movements and posture were those of a perfect maid.

“Now look at your maid!” Adele retracted her hand and gestured towards the maid behind Golden. “My goodness, is this even a maid? This is just a walking suitcase rack. Golden, how pathetic, truly pathetic. You call yourself a noble young lady, but your maid looks like this.”

Golden’s face darkened. She tried to defend herself, “Blake! Does carrying your own suitcase make you look any better?!”

Adele brushed her long, silver-white hair behind her, her other hand naturally hanging down by her side, still holding the suitcase. “Golden, your question is so unrefined. As a noble, it’s not appropriate to have empty hands. We usually carry books to school, and when we’re out and about, we should carry something that suits the occasion. My suitcase is also an accessory!”

Hearing Adele’s words, the surrounding vampire young ladies were surprisingly convinced. Because what Adele said… actually made sense. The maid who accompanied them also represented their face. She had to have the demeanor of a maid, not become a suitcase rack. Moreover, Adele’s movements while carrying the suitcase were elegant, truly elegant. It didn’t look like she was carrying a suitcase, but rather a handbag.

Coupled with her practical casual outfit and the large suitcase, it was clear at a glance that she was a noble young lady about to embark on a journey. It was both status-appropriate and elegant, which appealed to the young ladies.

After whispering among themselves, those whose maids were only carrying two bags quickly took one from their maids. Those with three suitcases, after taking one from their maids, felt that it looked strange for the maid to carry one in each hand. So, they made a painful decision to only bring one suitcase next semester.

The young ladies didn’t know what was strange, they just subconsciously felt it didn’t look good. But if Jasmine were to explain it, it was because carrying one in each hand made it look like they were holding dumbbells, or like the saying “a chicken in the left hand, a duck in the right hand.” It was no wonder it didn’t look good.

Even after Golden took two suitcases from her maid, she still couldn’t make her look elegant. So, Miss Golden gave up on the idea of carrying a suitcase herself. She snorted at Adele and turned to leave.

Jasmine guessed that Miss Golden’s luggage would also be significantly reduced next semester.
