Chapter 61: Letting Go
The comic convention was drawing to a close. Yu Linna’s two-day life as a cosplayer was also about to end. After the convention ended today, the girl received her wages from Dai Wenqian. A full seven hundred yuan was in hand; Yu Linna’s pocket finally bulged. She had waited for this day for so long.
After getting the money, she immediately took out three red banknotes and returned them to Ye Zhiyun. Although Ye Zhiyun said there was no need to pay back, she still insisted. Helplessly, Ye Zhiyun could only accept.
It seemed that, unknowingly, the distance between them had begun to close. Although their interactions these past two days were a bit awkward, their relationship wasn’t too bad either.
“When did you get so close to Linna?”
Fang Jianing secretly came over with a mischievous smile. Clearly, these two had a bad relationship in the past, but now they were so close. There must be something fishy going on.
“What are you thinking?”
Ye Zhiyun’s tone was quite cold, not in the mood to deal with her.
But she herself didn’t realize that a trace of unease had already appeared in her heart.
In the past, she and Yu Linna were always opposed. They always argued upon meeting, and it was mostly Ye Zhiyun being one-sided. But after spending time together for so long, Ye Zhiyun found it increasingly difficult to hate her, gradually accepting her existence instead.
Although doing so would make her unlike herself, she didn’t hate it at all.
“Hey, what are you doing next?”
“Going home, I guess. Nothing else to do anyway.”
“Since it’s still so early, how about we go eat?”
“Your treat?”
“…If it’s my treat, it’s my treat.”
If the past Ye Zhiyun saw this scene, she would probably slap herself dead. She actually took the initiative to invite her former enemy to dinner? She must be out of her mind.
But the current her wouldn’t have such thoughts at all. She merely wanted to spend a little more time with her.
Yu Linna had nothing, not even a decent home. As a girl, Ye Zhiyun still had some sympathy for her. She was already so pitiful; treating her like this again would be her fault.
“Ah, Zhiyun and Little Sister Linna have such a good relationship, a bit envious~”
Dai Wenqian was the typical type who enjoyed watching drama and didn’t mind stirring things up. Seeing her bestie being so intimate with another girl, even she felt envious. It wasn’t a big deal for girls to have good relationships, but achieving the level of Ye Zhiyun and Yu Linna was truly rare.
However, Dai Wenqian didn’t know that these two were like enemies at the beginning.
After the comic convention ended, Dai Wenqian took her club’s juniors, along with Fang Jianing and Huo Ningning, and went out for a meal with the group. Ye Zhiyun, the big spender, waved her hand and covered the meal. Anyway, this money was nothing to her. She still had a lot of funds invested elsewhere.
Yu Linna just focused on eating happily, ignoring everything else. Since it was a free dinner, it would be a waste not to eat. Her life wasn’t happy anyway, but eating was something she absolutely couldn’t miss. When she got rich in the future, she must eat delicious food to her heart’s content.
A meal cost at least four digits, but the wealthy Ye Zhiyun indicated it was nothing. You know, when she attended high-society parties before, she could spend tens of thousands in one night.
“Thank you very much for these two days, Little Sister Linna, and also Classmate Jianing and Ningning for your help. Our Light Manga Club will do better and better in the future. Everyone, shall we have a second gathering? Let’s go drinking!”
Dai Wenqian seemed to be in high spirits, slamming the table, her face full of excitement. Hearing this, everyone trembled, their faces stiffening.
Ye Zhiyun gave her a sharp chop on the head, stopping her nonsensical behavior.
“What drinking? There are minors here. Just because you can drink doesn’t mean your juniors can.”
“Ah ya, forgot about that~ Then let’s change it. Let’s go watch a movie and eat popcorn!”
Dai Wenqian was just a troublemaker king. If she didn’t cause trouble for a day, she felt uncomfortable all over, especially in front of her juniors. She was never well-behaved. And her juniors seemed long accustomed to their leader’s behavior. This was a very sad story.
“I’m not going. I’m going back.”
Yu Linna immediately stated she wouldn’t participate. She was already very tired today, didn’t want to go anywhere, just wanted to lie in bed and play with her phone. The money earned these two days was enough for her to use for a while, but her other jobs still had to continue. Money wasn’t feared for being too much, only for not having any.
Moreover, she had received an invitation from Orange River. She didn’t know how to make a decision. Repeated failures made her afraid to try easily, but the desire for fame still existed in her heart. Wanting too much to escape poverty, she attached great importance to any opportunity.
“I’m on the same way as you. Let’s walk together.”
Ye Zhiyun suddenly said this, surprising both Yu Linna and Fang Jianing. Others didn’t know, but didn’t Fang Jianing and Yu Linna know? Yu Linna’s home direction was different from Ye Zhiyun’s. How could they be on the same way?
What was she planning?
“Since it’s like this, then you guys go first. We’re leaving~”
The naive Dai Wenqian didn’t know about the dirty dealings here and foolishly led her club members away. They planned to party late tonight, preferably pulling an all-nighter.
And Yu Linna had class tomorrow, no time to play.
“Um, Zhiyun, what are you doing?”
“You don’t need to worry about it. Bye-bye, Jianing.”
“Oh…”
Fang Jianing watched blankly as Ye Zhiyun pulled Yu Linna’s hand and left in the opposite direction, completely ignoring her and Huo Ningning’s feelings. Fang Jianing had a strange expression. When did these two become so close?
“Eh…”
Huo Ningning watched the two departing figures, her face full of unwillingness, puffing her cheeks to show her dissatisfaction. Clearly, she was the one in the same class as Yu Linna, and she was even the class study committee member. Why did this girl from another school just openly take Yu Linna away?
“Ningning, you seem quite unhappy.”
“Ugh, I’ll try inviting her out next time too. I’ll become close to her.”
This girl Huo Ningning planned to latch onto her, huh.
Although she didn’t know why she was so persistent, Fang Jianing could also see the determination in her eyes. Forget it, let her be. It was also fortunate that Huo Ningning wasn’t a boy. If a boy were so attentive to Miss Linna, she would definitely be 100% unwilling.
Little sister is public property, not private property!
“Hey, Ye Zhiyun, what are you pulling me for? We’re not even going the same way. Your lie is too outrageous!”
“I like it. What can you do about it? Besides, what I say is correct. No one is allowed to object.”
“Who do you think you are? Let go of me! I want to go home!”
“I won’t.”
She was afraid that if she let go, this person would run away.
If she didn’t hold on at this moment, it felt like she couldn’t hold onto anything. She didn’t want this.
Yu Linna, Yu Linna. By the time she came back to her senses, her mind was filled with her name, her brain completely occupied by her. She had never experienced this feeling before.
She felt like a patient.
This feeling was really too uncomfortable.
“Let go!”
Suddenly, with a flick of her hand, she shook off her hand. Without any warning, her hand separated from hers, leaving her stunned and utterly confused.
“You psycho!”
Yu Linna fled in disarray, leaving nothing behind. Although Ye Zhiyun could chase after her, she ultimately didn’t.
She stood there, watching the shadow walk farther and farther away, her heart filled with confusion.
Didn’t she hate Yu Linna? Why was she so eager to close the distance with her? They were clearly supposed to be enemies. Why couldn’t they confront each other now? She had sworn back then that she could never have a good relationship with Yu Linna in her lifetime, yet she broke her own oath time and time again.
She said she hated Yu Linna, yet she kept getting closer to her.
She said she wouldn’t get along well with Yu Linna, yet their relationship was never bad.
She said she wouldn’t take photos of Yu Linna, but in fact, she took the most photos of her.
Why was this…
She really wanted to know why.
Why did her mood become so restless, so uneasy?
Ye Zhiyun forgot how she got home in the end. She only knew her heart was in turmoil. Whenever she felt upset, she would try to use work to ease her tense nerves. Since life’s troubles couldn’t be solved, then just throw yourself into work and forget about them.
The two movie projects she had invested in before – one had finished filming, was in post-production, and would be released next month. The other was still filming. Coincidentally, the movies she invested in seemed almost inseparable from Yu Linna.
She also thought, maybe she should visit the set soon. The movie “Storm Seal” she invested in starred Nangong Ying, who was Yu Linna’s good friend. Although her relationship with Nangong Ying wasn’t great, it was her investment project after all. Better go check the scene.
A day later, Ye Zhiyun took leave from class and specifically flew to the filming location, found the crew, and under Director Zhang’s guidance, went to the set to see the filming progress.
On the set, Nangong Ying was currently wearing a costume and acting opposite a co-star. Her aura was very strong, not losing out to big-name stars at all. Ye Zhiyun watched her performance. Although it wasn’t on screen, watching live could also reveal her foundation. Had she really never studied acting systematically? Clearly, her performance was no worse than others.
“Miss Ye, we’ve filmed about a third now. We should be able to finish filming soon. What do you think about releasing it by the end of the year?”
“You guys decide. Anyway, I’m not the biggest investor. I can’t call the shots.”
She wasn’t wrong in saying this. Since Orange River’s investment, the film’s funding suddenly became abundant. Miss Ye’s pitifully small investment was hardly worth mentioning anymore. Similarly, her say in matters decreased.
But forget it. As long as it could make money, her money wasn’t spent in vain.
Suddenly, Nangong Ying, having finished filming a take, looked up and saw Ye Zhiyun outside the set, her brows furrowing tightly.
What was she doing here?
