Shion’s Notes 51

Chapter 51: Today’s Weather is a Bit Hot

Nangong Ying was targeted without her knowledge. Although she currently held no value, who could guarantee she wouldn’t bring commercial benefits in the future? Her ability to achieve success across different fields was proof enough of her capability. If allowed to develop properly, her future value would be immeasurable.

Orange River, based on this point, wanted to cultivate Nangong Ying. Although she wasn’t fully formed yet, she was definitely a good seedling.

“Scene 100, prepare, action!”

On set, Nangong Ying, in makeup and costume, styled in the Qing Dynasty fashion. As the plot required, she needed to disguise herself as a Manchu woman to enter the palace and have an audience with the Qing Emperor. The conflict in this scene was crucial. There were no action sequences, but it heavily tested the actors’ skills. Nangong Ying had to act opposite veteran actors in this scene; the difficulty was imaginable.

Yu Tianchen watched from the side. He had already decided; he wanted to sign Nangong Ying to the company. Only by doing so could she become a valuable asset. This was also for the company’s future. They absolutely couldn’t wait until her wings were fully fledged to approach her; by then, it would be too late.

After finishing work, Nangong Ying was called over by the director. She had a strange expression on her face, but saw a man standing next to the director. The man looked gentle and harmless, not like a bad person, but somehow, Nangong Ying felt a sense of unease.

This feeling was a first reaction developed from her long time spent traveling outside. She vaguely felt that something was about to happen.

Nangong Ying was a creator of history. For her, this was just the beginning. Her legend had not yet begun.

Let’s talk about Yu Linna again. Since failing the screen test last time, her mood plummeted, and she lost the desire to develop in the entertainment industry. In the past, she might still have worked as an extra, but now she couldn’t even be bothered to do that. She increasingly felt that her ability to get acting gigs seemed truly due to her good looks. If someone asked about her skills, the answer would definitely be negative.

Yu Linna indeed lacked the talent for stage performance. She vaguely felt this was the reality recently.

This day, the sun was bright, a beautiful day. It happened to be the weekend. While other children were immersed in the joy of the holiday, our protagonist Yu Linna couldn’t enjoy the break. She had to work twice as hard as others, desperately earning money. She recently found another job delivering food at a fast-food restaurant. Originally, they only planned to hire young men. It was Yu Linna who, through sheer effort and her thick skin, barely persuaded the owner to hire her. It was also because the owner saw she was young and needed money that he took her in.

Perhaps the owner thought this little kid was just playing around, that she would back down after experiencing the hardship. But for Yu Linna, any job was an opportunity. She had to seize the opportunity.

“Xiao Yu, time for delivery. Here, this is today’s order. Be careful on the road.”

“Okay, okay.”

Taking the printed order slip from the owner, placing the packed pizza securely on the back of the electric scooter, Yu Linna put on her helmet, got on the scooter, and set off. Speaking of which, thanks to her being different from girls her age (she could ride an electric scooter), she gained more opportunities for this job.

Riding the small electric scooter, Yu girl’s vehicle sped along the main road. Delivering food on a scooter was really refreshing. This job was actually quite enjoyable; doing it long-term seemed pretty good. Of course, after Yu Linna did it for a month, she would definitely give up this idea.

However, the commission for food delivery was quite high. As long as she worked a little harder, earning four or five thousand yuan a month wasn’t a dream. This way, she could quickly earn money to pay the rent. She just hoped she could get many, many orders every day, so she could earn lots and lots of money.

If she couldn’t find a job after graduation, becoming a food delivery girl wouldn’t be bad either. Anyway, the pay was good.

Riding the small electric scooter for over ten minutes, she finally delivered the pizza to a high-end apartment complex. The customers ordering here lived in really upscale places. High-rise buildings lined the area, branded cars parked in the lot, and even the small park on the ground floor had elderly people playing chess. This place, no matter how you looked at it, was completely different from the slum area Yu Linna lived in.

Capitalism is the original sin; only socialism can lead the people to prosperity. Yu Linna silently recited this in her heart.

Holding the delivery box, Yu Linna’s small body entered the apartment elevator. Following the address on the order slip, the owner lived on the twenty-first floor; it was impossible to reach without taking the elevator. After delivering this order, she would go back and continue working. To earn more money, work a little harder. She silently cheered herself on. When the elevator doors opened, she carried the pizza box out, found the room number, and pressed the doorbell.

“Hello, your delivery has arrived. Is it convenient for you to come out and get it?”

She called out towards the door in her pleasant voice, then held the box and waited obediently for the owner to come out and get the delivery.

After a short while, footsteps approached. Soon, the door opened. The one who opened the door was a black-haired girl, wearing home clothes. Although without makeup, her face was still stunningly beautiful. Yu Linna was about to speak, but her mouth hung open for a long time, unable to utter a word.

The black-haired girl, after the initial surprise, slowly calmed down, a hint of amusement in her eyes, though her expression remained cold.

“When did you switch to delivering food?”

Ye Zhiyun looked at her with amusement.

“I, this…”

Yu Linna couldn’t speak for a long time. How could she know the order she delivered was actually placed by Ye Zhiyun! What the hell!
Why, of all things, did she have to deliver her order, and personally too!

“Cough, this is your delivery. Please take it.”

“Yo, quite the attitude. Not afraid I’ll give you a bad review?”

“…”

Oh god, Ye Zhiyun is threatening her!
This threat, Yu Linna was very afraid! A bad review could kill her. What if the boss got unhappy and fired her!

“Don’t, don’t, don’t, boss, no, no, big sister, please be kind, don’t give a bad review.”

The girl bowed solemnly, lowering her stance considerably.

Although their relationship had eased recently, Yu Linna hadn’t forgotten that Ye Zhiyun disliked her quite a bit; she hated her guts. Enemies meeting, their eyes red with fury.
At this time, it was best to avoid her if possible.

Looking at Yu Linna today, dressed in a yellow work uniform, she smiled. How could she not mess with her a bit? She originally thought returning here would be boring for a while. Now, great, Yu Linna delivered herself to her door. If she didn’t seize this opportunity, she’d be a fool.

“Bring the delivery inside. I’m too lazy to get it.”

“Hey!”

“The customer is God. Careful I don’t give you a bad review.”

Ugh…

Yu Linna could only swallow her grievances, no matter how bitter. What could she do? Ye Zhiyun was the customer! She couldn’t resist!
If she still wanted this job.

The girl swallowed her anger, carried the box inside, and closed the door behind her. Following Ye Zhiyun’s request, she changed into indoor slippers, then placed the pizza on the living room table. It had to be said, the place Ye Zhiyun lived was really big, with living rooms and bedrooms, all sorts of furniture, and a branded TV. Compared to Yu Linna, this female diaosi (internet slang for loser/underachiever) who didn’t even have a small TV, she was truly much wealthier.

“Yu Linna, I’m thirsty. Go to my fridge and get me a can of Wang Lao Ji. Hurry up, Miss only gives you thirty seconds.”

“The fridge is right next to you! Will you die if you get it yourself!”

“I refuse. I want you to get it.”

“I won’t get it!”

“Delivery person has a bad service attitude. I want to give a bad review.”

“…You’re ruthless!”

Yu Linna swallowed her anger again and went to the fridge to get her a can of drink. She swore, in the future, she would absolutely not deliver here, unless she turned into Wang Jingze! (Note: Wang Jingze is famous for an internet meme about stubbornly refusing something then immediately giving in.)

Ye Zhiyun was doing it on purpose. She just wanted to use this opportunity to bully her. Otherwise, how could it make up for being oppressed by her before? Besides, this girl still had an entangled relationship with her childhood sweetheart. She wouldn’t let her go.

Although she helped her last time, business is business. Old scores still needed to be settled.

“Yu Linna, my pen ran out of ink. Go downstairs to the nearby bookstore and buy me a pen.”

Enough!

“Bad review.”

“Ahhhhhh, I’ll go, alright?!”

Yu Linna collapsed. Was she here to deliver food or to be a servant!

During the time she went downstairs to buy the pen, Ye Zhiyun secretly smiled. Playing with her felt really good. Thinking about how she was always teased by her before, even though she didn’t mean it, Ye Zhiyun was still annoyed. Today she could finally get her revenge all at once.

Besides, Yu Linna also owed her a favor. Asking her to do a few things wasn’t a problem. Logically and reasonably, thinking this way, Ye Zhiyun felt quite good.

“Bought it. Don’t ask me to buy things for you again.”

“Not bad, quite capable. Thanks. I’ll give you errand money later.”

“Hey, don’t come over again, I won’t help you… Ah!”

“Careful!”

While handing her the pen, Yu Linna accidentally bumped into the table and almost tripped. Ye Zhiyun reacted quickly and grabbed her. But Ye Zhiyun pushed too hard, pushing Yu Linna away. Fortunately, the sofa was behind them, and Yu Linna was firmly pressed underneath the sofa, uninjured.

Breathing became heavy. When Yu Linna opened her eyes, strands of black hair tickled her snow-white neck. The face above her seemed somewhat bewildered. Yu Linna was completely pressed onto the sofa, and Ye Zhiyun, by sheer bad luck, happened to be in a position pressing down on her. The posture of the two was extremely ambiguous.

Seeing Yu Linna up close for the first time, Ye Zhiyun realized this girl’s eyes were very beautiful. She had seen so many beautiful girls, but none had eyes as beautiful as Yu Linna’s. Moreover, Yu Linna’s skin was really fair, fairer than hers, smooth like peeled egg white. Perhaps because she had some Western blood, her skin was a few shades fairer than East Asians.

“Ye Zhiyun?”

There was unease in Yu Linna’s voice. She looked at the girl pressing down on her, her mind completely chaotic. Whether in her previous life or this life, she had never been in such close contact with a girl. Now being stared at like this, at such close proximity, she only felt hot.

How long would this position last…
And Ye Zhiyun didn’t seem to intend to let go of this position.
In her, Ye Zhiyun’s, hands, Yu Linna was like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.

“Um… I still have to work… Can you let me go back…”

Ye Zhiyun opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but didn’t.

No, I just want to do this to you, until I’m satisfied.

This sentence, in the end, was still not spoken. She didn’t know why, but for a moment, she actually wanted to say it.

She released her hands. Yu Linna took the chance to scramble up, her face covered in crimson, escaping as if fleeing, slamming the door heavily behind her, leaving a loud bang. With the door closed, it seemed something was shut away. Ye Zhiyun looked at the delivered pizza.

Suddenly, she seemed to have lost her appetite for lunch. Was the weather too hot? Ye Zhiyun tugged at the round collar of her shirt. Despite being in an air-conditioned room, her face still felt hot.

Today’s weather was indeed a bit hot.
