Shion’s Notes 35

Chapter 35: Argument

The turn of events had exceeded expectations. Even Ye Zhiyun hadn’t anticipated Yu Linna’s strong reaction. But there was nothing to be done; after all, she was the one at fault first. It was only natural for the other person to be angry. She just hadn’t expected Yu Linna to get so angry.

Her face was filled with anger. Due to excessive anger, a faint mist covered the surface of her eyes. Her breathing became rapid, her shoulders trembled slightly. After a while, she sat down on the edge of the bed, defeated.

“Hey… are you okay?”

“None of your business.”

Yu Linna lowered her head, looking extremely tired.

“It was wrong of me to deceive you. I apologize…”

“I don’t want your apology.”

Yu Linna was indeed very angry, extremely angry, angry about being deceived.

But if it were just because of the deception, and a deception by someone who didn’t like her much, she wouldn’t have gotten this angry. What truly angered her was Ye Zhiyun’s belittling of her while pretending to be her parent, in the role of her mother.

“Listen, Ye Zhiyun. I don’t care that you lied to me, and I don’t want to care, after all, we’re not close. But when you were playing my parent, why did you have to lie to me like that? Even if you were lying, couldn’t you have made it seem real? Couldn’t you have acted like a proper parent? Couldn’t you have forgotten you were Ye Zhiyun?”

“What are you getting worked up about? Over such a trivial matter!”

“Can’t I?! I want to!”

It wasn’t unreasonable for the girl to care so much.

From her previous life to this one, she had never enjoyed a family. When Ye Zhiyun said she would pretend to be her parent, she actually had some expectations in her heart. Even if it was fake, she was willing to accept it, even if it was just fake. But Ye Zhiyun didn’t give it to her; she shattered her expectations.

She was really angry, and also very sad. Even though she knew this was unreasonable.

While the two were deadlocked, the room door opened. Fang Jianing had come up after seeing the homeroom teacher leave downstairs. When she opened the door and saw the obviously tense situation between the two, she thought for a moment she had walked into the wrong scene.

“What’s wrong, you two?”

The atmosphere was clearly wrong. Staying here, the harmonious atmosphere was gone, replaced by an invisible pressure.

Ye Zhiyun snorted coldly, saying nothing. If she had known it would turn out like this, she shouldn’t have tried so hard to help her just now. She even had a pang of conscience and wanted to make amends. Looks like she overthought it.

From the very beginning, she and Yu Linna were incompatible. No matter when, they could never become friends.

Because they were naturally at odds.

“Enough. You should go back. Thank you for your help today. I’ll treat you to something another day.”

Finally, Yu Linna took the initiative to end the topic, but even a fool could hear the meaning in her tone. No matter how slow Fang Jianing was, she could guess what had happened between the two.

“Hmph, no need. It was my fault. I shouldn’t have lied to you. But, I don’t need to say these things either.”

Ye Zhiyun gathered her things, opened the door, and walked out. Fang Jianing stood there, unsure what to do. She looked at Yu Linna, who was silent with her head down, and finally followed Ye Zhiyun’s steps. As the room door closed, Yu Linna’s heart also closed off.

Leaving this poor neighborhood, Ye Zhiyun was still a little angry. She just didn’t understand why that girl would get angry over such a trivial matter. If it was just because she lied to her, Ye Zhiyun might have felt a little guilty. But getting angry because she didn’t act like a parent? She really couldn’t understand it. Could such a trivial matter be called a matter? She couldn’t understand it anyway.

“Wait, Zhiyun, don’t walk so fast. What exactly happened between you two? Why did you suddenly start arguing?”

“I just don’t understand what that girl is getting worked up about, saying I didn’t act like a parent. What a joke! I’ve never been a mother, why should I act like her mother!”

She couldn’t understand, absolutely couldn’t.

From the very beginning, they were opposites, unable to understand each other. Their values never aligned.

Maybe they were destined from birth, fundamentally unsuited to be together.

“But, maybe she has some hidden reasons. Do you think a normal person would get angry over such a small thing? Can you calm down and think about it?”

“…”

“And didn’t you notice? From the time we went in until we came out, we never heard her mention anything about her family. Could there be some hidden reason?”

“…I don’t know.”

After listening to Fang Jianing’s words, although Ye Zhiyun didn’t immediately cool down, she at least began to calm down. Actually, what she said did have some truth to it, even if she didn’t like hearing it.

Yu Linna, what kind of person are you really?

Unconsciously, Ye Zhiyun began to take an interest in her, although she herself was completely unaware.

After that, Yu Linna locked the door and buried herself under the covers to sleep. Of course, she knew what she had done today. She hadn’t gotten angry over these things for a long time. She knew these things shouldn’t be brought up, but she just couldn’t hold back.

Inexplicably, Yu Linna’s mind recalled her childhood. Her life in this world was much more turbulent than his in the previous life. She moved around many places but never settled down. The places she lived kept changing, constantly shifting. She never had a stable circle of friends. For her, having a circle was a luxury.

(“Your name is Yu Linna? Your blonde hair is so eye-catching. Are your parents foreigners?”)
(“What, you don’t know? So you’re a child without parents.”)
(“What, why are you glaring at me? I didn’t say anything wrong. You are a child without parents. Pfft.”)
(“Hey, why did you hit someone? You wild child with no mother to teach you… Wait, wait, put down that brick, hey, don’t!!”)

Ever since she was little, she hated being treated like this.

So she never liked telling others she didn’t have parents. Her blonde hair was conspicuous enough, making her an outsider in any crowd. If people knew her family background, she would stand out even more. She didn’t want that.

So, even if it was fake, she wanted an ordinary identity, an ordinary life. If it weren’t for her mixed-race appearance, she might have lived a happier life, maybe. Although life would still be hard, at least she wouldn’t be bullied.

Therefore, she had to work hard, she had to stand out. Only by becoming outstanding, becoming rich, could she gain true respect from others. For this, she had to follow Nangong Ying’s footsteps, climbing up bit by bit. She wanted to tell others that she, Yu Linna, was different from those lowly bitches.

Time quickly passed, and a week went by. According to Yu Linna’s plan, she took leave from school again, bought a train ticket from afar, and rushed to Shenzhen. Many people would participate in this audition event. She didn’t know if she could stand out, but she could only try. She had to work hard to prove herself.

Of course, it was impossible for her to stay overnight in Shenzhen; the accommodation fees there were too expensive. So she planned to only attend the interview on that day and then come back. Whether she could pass depended on her luck.

While Yu Linna was preparing for the audition, Nangong Ying, who had returned home after the competition in Beijing, had been living there for some time. Her life was relatively uneventful, continuing as usual, with no particular changes. However, the phone at home kept ringing incessantly. Many agencies wanted to sign her and cultivate her into a singer.

Nangong Ying hadn’t entirely dismissed the idea of developing in the music industry; singing was also her hobby. But she didn’t know how to choose, because Li Yuexin had specifically flown from Beijing to visit her two days ago, once again inviting her to join her band. This time, Nangong Ying didn’t refuse outright but considered it for a long time. Her mother, seeing Li Yuexin visit their home, happily invited her to stay for a few days, and Li Yuexin couldn’t refuse.

These few days, Nangong Ying had been thinking constantly whether joining the band was a good idea. Although Li Yuexin’s band wasn’t very famous, relying entirely on Li Yuexin’s fame as an actress to support it, Nangong Ying had privately visited this band and was surprised to find that their skills were very good, highly professional, and their coordination was excellent. But they just couldn’t get popular.

Although the band wasn’t famous enough, it had great potential for development; it wasn’t impossible for it to grow. This was also what troubled Nangong Ying. She was a newcomer, and choosing a faction was very important for a newcomer. She didn’t want to regret making the wrong choice or failing to choose.

“How about it, Nangong Ying? Have you considered it?”

This morning, Li Yuexin finished washing up and came to the hall ready for breakfast. She saw Nangong Ying sitting on the sofa, deep in thought, and asked again with a smile. Nangong Ying had been in this contemplative state for many days now.

“Senior Yuexin, why are you so persistent about me? You have so many people to choose from, why specifically invite me to join your band? I don’t think I have anything else that attracts you.”

Indeed, in terms of qualifications and ability, there were so many people in the entertainment industry for her to choose from. Why did she specifically choose Nangong Ying? Even if Nangong Ying won the national championship, she was still a newcomer, still somewhat lacking in stage experience. Why choose her?

“It’s simple. You’re like us, so I chose you.”

Li Yuexin smiled, sat down next to her with a plop, and looked at her with smiling eyes. The other’s bewildered expression amused Li Yuexin greatly.

“I’m like you?”

“Yes, you’re like us. We haven’t spread our wings to fly yet, and you haven’t spread your wings to fly yet either. If we combine, perhaps it will create a very good chemical reaction. And think about it, growing together, moving forward together, doesn’t that sound interesting?”

Her smile was as beautiful as ever, that calm smile leaving a deep impression on Nangong Ying. After that, she couldn’t escape it.

Nangong Ying stood up, stretched. She thought, after hesitating for so long, it was time to make a decision. Dragging it on wasn’t like her, Nangong Ying.

“Alright, I’ve thought it through. Your proposal sounds good. As a newcomer, I hope you’ll be lenient.”

“Of course. Welcome aboard, my good sister.”

The two hands clasped together. This smile finally moved her. At the same time, this was also the beginning of a beautiful story.
