Chapter 41: The Darkness Cannot Hide Under the Holy Light
The commotion lasted until dawn.
After checking Little White’s wounds, Lena prepared to leave.
“No need for medicine. Just make sure to eat and sleep on time, that’s better than any medicine… and that goes for you too.”
“Being an idol, I barely have time to eat, let alone a hot meal.”
Angel grumbled, but a sweet smile bloomed on her face, a hint of shyness in her eyes.
“Thank you. When Little White is fully recovered, I’ll have it recognize you as its godfather. When it grows up, it can carry us around.”
Just as Lena was about to ask why not godmother, Angel pushed her out of the dormitory, a reluctant expression on her face. “So much has happened today…”
“Hmm? What happened? Why don’t I remember anything?” Lena feigned ignorance.
“You can’t go back on your word this time.” Angel, rarely showing a coquettish side, stuffed a handful of papers into Lena’s pocket. “I have an important concert next week. You have to come, and bring Ling Ling. She’s my good friend, I promised her.”
Angel turned her head slightly, avoiding Lena’s gaze, as if shy.
“Why so sentimental? Don’t we see each other every day?”
Lena teased, pocketing the concert tickets and memorizing the date of the performance.
She would go if she had nothing else to do, to accompany the girls. Besides, she didn’t want to see Angel’s constantly defeated expression; bullying her wasn’t as satisfying anymore…
Now, Lena wanted to see Angel’s smile, a genuine smile that could touch one’s heart, especially from a popular idol, her every smile and frown radiating youthful energy.
“Don’t forget to eat, even if you’re busy. You’re too skinny, it’s not comfortable to hug.”
“Who wants you to hug me, I should be the one hugging you!”
Angel puffed out her flat chest, her magic-infused belly protruding, looking both alluring and adorable.
Lena walked over and touched it. It was round and warm, and she could even hear a gurgling sound.
“Touch the ‘baby’ in your belly and say that again?”
“It’s all your fault! What if I stay like this forever?!”
Angel swatted at Lena angrily. She wanted to be the world’s number one idol; how could she perform with a big belly?!
Which famous idol performed while pregnant? It was ridiculous!
And idols relied on their youth. If Lena got her pregnant, even if it was clarified as fake, the public pressure alone would be enough to crush her, not to mention the possibility of crazy fans attacking her…
Lena seemed prepared for Angel’s accusations, reassuring her, “The infused magic power can be absorbed. You’ll return to normal in about a day. Besides, you absorbed my purest magic power, which is not only harmless but also greatly beneficial to your body. Increased strength is one benefit, beauty enhancement is another…”
“And the third?” Angel asked casually.
“The third…” Lena whispered into Angel’s ear, “Getting used to my touch, so you won’t suffer so much next time, hmm? Do you still remember my shape?~”
“Pervert!”
“Soften your voice, don’t be so shrill. It’s best to look down at a 45-degree angle, lift your skirt with a look of disgust, like you’re looking at a sewer rat, and then be pushed down by me…tsk, tsk…”
“Disgusting! Pervert! Big pervert!!” Angel recoiled, hugging herself dramatically.
After her teasing, Lena’s expression softened, a relaxed smile replacing her serious facade.
“I’m leaving. No need to see me off.”
“W-who wants to see you off,” Angel blushed. “But if you insist, I can walk you to the school gate…”
“…”
Lena looked at her quietly.
This kind-hearted little nun, willing to help a complete stranger with all her kindness, her courage unwavering. Even the reborn Lena couldn’t help but acknowledge and be drawn to her.
Perhaps Lena saw the shadow of her past life’s Ling Ling in Angel, or maybe she could try to change, to change her values and lessen her desire for revenge.
As Angel had said, she didn’t hate Angel, but rather, she hated her past self, weak and incompetent.
She hated her powerlessness to save her family, hated the empire’s prejudice and corruption, and had redirected her anger towards Angel, attempting to find solace by hurting her enemy from her past life.
But even so, Lena hadn’t felt any sense of revenge while tormenting Angel. Instead, influenced by Angel’s pure and kind nature, she had been the one saved…
Perhaps she was willing to give Angel this chance to get close to her.
To forget the grudges of their past life, to forget that Angel, as a member of the hero’s party, had once pursued her relentlessly.
In their past life, they were enemies, fighting at every encounter. In this life, they had met in such a “mutually destructive” way. Wasn’t this a kind of fate?
“If you don’t say anything, I’m going back to my dormitory. This is your chance, Miss Devil.”
While Lena was lost in thought, Angel issued an ultimatum, glancing back repeatedly, her eyebrows slightly furrowed, practically begging Lena to invite her.
Lena pouted. “A celebrity and a sinner together, wouldn’t that be awkward?”
“Only a fool would think it’s awkward! Only the stupidest and most cunning goblins, two-headed ogre idiots who argue with themselves, would think so! Are you a stupid ogre?!” Angel raised her chin, her voice filled with spirit.
Her slender fingers twirled her pink hair, her simple nightdress accentuated by her beauty, revealing her creamy white shoulders and slender legs. Her ten toes nervously gripped the insoles of her cartoon slippers.
Angel appeared calm, but she was actually incredibly anxious.
Lena’s answer was crucial to her.
Like a couple at sunset, exhausted from playing, confessing their feelings under the setting sun’s blessing, her heart pounding, she awaited Lena’s response…
Lena spoke frankly, “Very beautiful, worthy of your reputation as the empire’s popular idol.”
“Hmph~ you haven’t seen the even more beautiful me~” Angel muttered, her cheeks flushed. “But, you barely passed. I didn’t expect any flowery words from you anyway… um… you have to come, you must, must, must come!”
Angel repeated herself, emphasizing her point.
She didn’t want to hear Lena’s excuses, nor did she want to be lied to again.
Lena extended her arm, and Angel took it. “Mm, I look forward to seeing you shine on stage…”
…singing and dancing, facing your adoring fans… it will be quite interesting.
Lena kept this thought to herself, hiding her darker intentions.
“Honestly, you should have said that earlier.”
Angel looked at the rising sun, punctual as always, illuminating the path ahead.
And under this brilliant light, darkness could not hide.
Even if there was a villain entwined with the fate of death by her side, this radiant, holy light could still penetrate the walls she had built, melting her frozen heart.
Then, beating!
Burning!
Boiling!
Angel had that power, she firmly believed…
