Chapter 19: The Little Fox Girl Loves Making Friends
Tear stains still lingered on Angel’s cheeks, her eyes swollen, a picture of misery.
“Morning.”
Lena saw her from afar, approaching with a sneer. “The kitten doesn’t even greet her master?”
“G-good morning, Master.”
Her voice was hoarse, like a broken gong.
Angel was truly exhausted. Not only had she not slept all night, but she had also forced herself to get up despite the throbbing pain between her legs to arrange for the boy’s rescue.
It was like an office worker who had worked overtime until dawn, finally arriving home to rest, only to be notified of an 8 a.m. meeting. The evil capitalists only wanted to squeeze every last drop of value out of her.
Why was Lena perfectly fine?!
That was only natural.
Lena’s stamina was among the best of her peers, as were her skills, her strength, and her reputation…
“Let’s get this over with quickly, I want to go home.”
Angel’s tone was laced with impatience, and she retorted without hesitation, “Or does Master want to rip my stockings open again in broad daylight? I never thought the esteemed young lady of the Falmouth family would enjoy such peculiar games. Truly eye-opening…”
“No, I have enough sustenance.”
Lena interrupted.
She displayed the ring on her finger, its indigo light dazzling in the sunlight.
Having absorbed enough essence, the King of Narcissus had shed its dull exterior, radiating its unique divine power.
“You’ve fulfilled your purpose perfectly. I should thank you. Now, it’s my turn to fulfill your wish.”
Lena took the key from Ling Ling and opened the storage room door.
The musty room was dark. Apart from the black body bag lying on the floor, there was no other furniture, making it impossible to see clearly inside.
“Ling Ling tidied up beforehand.”
The little fox girl jumped out to take credit, her tail wagging vigorously.
“She cleaned all night!”
“…”
Lena thought it was unnecessary; a single spell could have done the trick. But seeing Ling Ling’s eager expression, she couldn’t bring herself to dampen her enthusiasm.
She was still a child…
Lena tried to convince herself, turning to Angel, who was lingering outside the door. “Aren’t you coming in to take a look? The magician wielding forbidden power is about to begin her performance. I think you shouldn’t miss the show.”
After a moment of hesitation, Angel cautiously stepped into the dark space.
As she entered, the doorframe seemed to tremble, showering her with wood chips and dust.
Angel rubbed her eyes, a pair of golden pupils flashing past, startling her.
“What was that?!”
“Sister Angel.”
A hand, slightly warmer than human temperature, touched Angel’s sensitive waist.
Ling Ling had found her in the dark, giggling. “I caught you, Sister Angel.”
“…Boring!” Angel tossed her head, ignoring the little fox girl’s playful gesture.
She was a child; Angel naturally wouldn’t stoop to her level.
Angel was dedicated to maintaining her pure idol persona, but just yesterday, that persona had been ruthlessly shattered by a gray-haired devil. Having lost something so important, she was in no mood to play with Ling Ling, let alone give her a pleasant expression.
A follower of the devil deserved to die!
“Hmph!”
“Huh?”
Ling Ling didn’t understand what was happening.
They had been fine when they met last night, even exchanging contact information. Why had Angel’s attitude changed so drastically?
One sulking, the other confused.
A flash of white light illuminated the room as Lena cast an illumination spell.
“What’s wrong?” Lena glanced sideways at Angel. “Don’t want to save him anymore, little white lotus?”
“What little white lotus…” Angel muttered in protest.
“Hmm? What should I call you then? Kitten?”
Lena beckoned Ling Ling with her finger. After some hesitation, the little fox girl stood beside Lena, her head lowered, lost in thought.
“Our deal isn’t over yet, my dear kitten. Once the sun fully rises, even a ninth-rank legendary Necromancer will be powerless.”
So, you should understand your position and not bully my people.
Lena thought silently, smiling…
Half of her beautiful face was hidden in the shadow of the magic lamp, her delicate features slightly raised, somewhat unsettling, yet captivating.
“S-sorry…”
Under pressure, Angel relented and apologized to Ling Ling.
“It’s my fault, I shouldn’t have ignored you. We’re still friends…”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. Ling Ling shouldn’t have scared Sister Angel, that was rude!” The little fox girl stepped forward apologetically, taking Angel’s hand in hers and extending her fluffy tail as a gesture of goodwill.
Holding the tip of the tail signified an everlasting friendship, a simple and direct way for foxkin to make friends.
“Hee hee, Ling Ling’s tail is very comfortable. Even Miss praises it.”
“I…”
Angel glanced at Lena.
She had a feeling that if she touched it, she would suffer dire consequences, so she hesitated…
The snow-white tip of the tail swayed enticingly.
“Sister Angel, won’t you try?”
Damn it! Whatever!
Angel steeled her resolve, suddenly feeling nothing to fear.
She reached out—
And touched—
“Ah… it’s really soft… I feel like I’m floating…”
“Right? Ling Ling loves using her tail as a pillow for naps.”
“I want a tail like that too,” Angel said enviously.
“Ling Ling can lend it to Sister Angel, as long as Sister Angel is willing to spend time with Ling Ling,” the little fox girl boasted, showcasing her prized possession.
“Mm-hmm.”
The nightmarish experience vanished under Ling Ling’s sincerity. Angel accepted Ling Ling from the bottom of her heart, separating her from the devil’s camp and classifying her as one of her own kind.
So, Lena used the same method to coerce both her and Ling Ling into submission?
Angel looked at Ling Ling with concern.
Innocent, petite, and tender… so young, yet already a plaything of the devil, what a poor little thing…
But wasn’t she the same?
Angel smiled bitterly, praying for this terrible period to end soon.
One day, she would turn the tables…
The devil would also have her comeuppance…
She could only comfort herself with these thoughts, cheering herself on.
“Can we begin?”
“I await good news.”
As Lena spoke, her aura underwent a dramatic transformation.
If the Lena of a moment ago still retained a trace of humanity, then the Lena of this moment was like a devil crawling back from hell, a cold and emotionless spellcasting machine.
Almost tangible black mist seeped from her right eye socket, rising towards the ceiling.
Her entire right arm disappeared, replaced by a flowing, dripping black liquid magic, capable of corrupting all living things, reversing the cycle of life and death.
“You…”
Angel covered her mouth in shock, her eyes wide.
“You’ve advanced to rank six?!”
