Chapter 69: The Fairy Witch
Luo Yuxi’s expression morphed from confusion to disbelief. She had thought the Seat of Sacrifice was a sweet girl who needed protection, someone she felt sympathy for due to her selfless devotion to the Church. But now, looking at the innocent-looking Lika…
“Damn it, it’s just a kinky outfit! Is this really Church-developed equipment? This armor shows more skin than my lewd nun’s habit!”
“I-Is that so? That’s a problem. It must be for greater mobility~”
Lika reached out, her delicate fingers tracing Luo Yuxi’s exposed stomach. Luo Yuxi knew Lika couldn’t see and touch was her way of perceiving the world, but she still felt like she was being taken advantage of.
“There’s really not much fabric. The less fabric, the better the defense, right~?”
“This must be your doing too…”
Luo Yuxi no longer believed Lika’s innocent facade. Beneath that cute exterior was probably a dark heart. None of the 12 bishops were normal.
“Oh my, I just wanted to make it cuter. Reducing the fabric wasn’t my idea, I can’t even see~”
Lika waved her hand in front of her face. Luo Yuxi sighed, thinking, It’s just a little bit of fanservice. Besides, using seduction against witches could be surprisingly effective.
“It does feel lighter. Whose brilliant idea was this…?”
“So you also think the armor I designed is great! This is true art~”
A childish voice echoed through the room. Luo Yuxi looked around, but couldn’t find the source. The voice seemed to be right next to her ear. Some kind of telepathy?
“Idiot, I’m on your shoulder!”
“?!”
Luo Yuxi turned her head and saw a palm-sized fairy sitting on her shoulder like a tiny queen, her legs crossed, occasionally flapping her silver wings to maintain balance, sparkling dust falling from her wings and disappearing into the air.
“A… a fairy…?”
“Indeed, I am a kind and beautiful fairy. Be honored to receive my favor, human~”
Luo Yuxi looked at the fairy, thinking she could crush her with one hand. Lika, as if hearing her thoughts, began to explain.
“That’s the designer of this armor, Miss Bertha of the Fairy race.”
“But the Church isn’t…”
Luo Yuxi thought the Church was a human organization. Being human was a prerequisite for joining, even half-humans weren’t allowed. And now there was a Mythical Species working for the Church? It was beyond her comprehension.
“You must be wondering why the Church would recruit a Mythical Species like me. It’s because of my unique talent, of course, and my beauty~”
Bertha, before Lika could speak, explained haughtily, flying up and sitting cross-legged on Luo Yuxi’s head. Luo Yuxi didn’t believe her arrogant explanation.
“Actually, this fairy can use the same magic as witches and has the same magic markings…”
“So she’s a witch?!?”
“Well, we asked, and Miss Bertha claims she’s not a witch. And Xi Luo, the Seat of Honesty, confirmed it with her Eye of Truth. So we assigned her to help with the armor development~”
Luo Yuxi was even more confused. Using witch magic, having witch markings, wasn’t that a witch? And they had a witch confirm if she was a witch? That didn’t make sense.
“But if you say she’s not, then I guess it’s fine…”
[Ding]
[Lika]
Occupation: Witch
Race: Forest Fairy
Affiliation: Church
Skills: ???
Title: Petal Witch
Affection: 70%
Order Level: 10th Order
Luo Yuxi looked at the panel, speechless. She had been right, Lika was a witch. The Church, mortal enemies with witches, not only had spies from the Witch Kingdom but also employed witches, even in their research department. The Church was hopeless.
“Did you even bother checking properly? She has witch markings…”
Luo Yuxi was about to offer another hint when she felt a prick on her head. Bertha had plucked a strand of her hair and was now examining it, her eyes gleaming strangely. Sparkling dust fell from her wings with every flap.
“Really, I told you I’m not a witch. What more do you want them to check? Don’t tell me you’re interested in me~?”
Bertha played with the pink strand of hair, then slowly licked the tip. The thin strand looked thick in her tiny hands. Although it was just a casual question, Luo Yuxi sensed a threat in her eyes.
“N-Nothing…”
“Seeing you two getting along so well, I’m relieved. If there are any problems with the armor, you can come to her for after-sales service~”
Lika clapped her hands, oblivious to the tension between them. She opened the lab door.
“You two can discuss the other functions. I’ll be going now, a bishop is very busy~”
“Wait! Wait a minute!”
Luo Yuxi wanted to follow, but Lika, as if she hadn’t heard, teleported away after opening the door. Luo Yuxi, although expressionless, was screaming internally. Why open the door if you’re just going to teleport? Suddenly, she felt a strange sensation on her ear. Bertha was perched there.
“There are too many people here. I think you’ve discovered something. Why don’t we chat somewhere private~?”
