Chapter 26: Self-Immolation Tactic
Luo Yuxi recalled Natalie’s backstory in the game. She became a witch out of utter despair, not only falling herself but also hunting other witches.
“A witch who hates other witches? And Sybil, as an elven princess, couldn’t possibly be absent from the later parts of the game…”
A thought struck Luo Yuxi: Sybil might die in this assassination attempt, and Natalie’s despair over Sybil’s death might be what causes her to become the Fallen Witch. Realizing this, Luo Yuxi rushed back to the treehouse.
“Sybil! We have to leave—”
The treehouse was empty. A loud explosion rocked the forest. Luo Yuxi rushed outside and saw two figures locked in battle high above the giant Elven Tree in the center of the forest.
“They said it was an assassination! What do these succubi understand about assassinations?!”
Luo Yuxi ran towards the Elven Tree, praying she wasn’t too late. Although Sybil had been a bit forward, she was a kind-hearted elf. Luo Yuxi couldn’t just watch her die.
“After this business trip, I’m definitely applying for a vacation!”
Luo Yuxi, a natural shut-in, had never run so fast in her life. She sprinted at full speed, casting a Greater Heal whenever her body reached its limit.
“Healing magic is always useful…”
She finally reached the Elven Tree, but the sight before her made her freeze. Natalie was kneeling on the ground, her eyes vacant, holding a lifeless Sybil in her arms. Even though she had been so fast, she was still too late.
“Well, well, Master Ruo Li gave that girl such a simple task, and you still managed to escape…”
Several succubi emerged from the shadows, surrounding Luo Yuxi. She saw the icy mist emanating from Natalie, clinging to Sybil’s body. She was about to fall into despair.
“Not good! Natalie’s curse was just lifted. If she becomes a witch now, she’ll go berserk…”
Luo Yuxi looked at Natalie anxiously. According to the data panel, they were both the same Order level, so Luo Yuxi should be able to handle her. But as a nun, she had many support spells, but only a few basic offensive ones.
“Capture her. I don’t know how she got here, but Master’s plan cannot be compromised…”
“I’m in a hurry, so please get out of my way…”
Luo Yuxi was distressed. She couldn’t treat this like a game anymore. Someone she cared about was dead. Natalie must be in despair. If she didn’t intervene, the world would have another Fallen Witch.
“Master Ruo Li is interested in you, so we’ll just break your limbs. They can be healed anyway…”
The succubi looked at Luo Yuxi with undisguised greed, but they underestimated her because of her nun status. No one from the Church was easy to deal with.
“I don’t want to try this, but I have no choice…”
Luo Yuxi tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. She had thought about this while playing the game: if she used a self-damaging spell while simultaneously casting a powerful healing spell, could she create an infinite loop of power?
“Here goes! Self-immolation!”
Luo Yuxi hugged one of the succubi. The succubus, initially excited by the soft embrace and sweet scent, quickly lost her smile. To the shock of the other succubi, Luo Yuxi burst into flames.
[Divine Art: Holy Flame]
“Hiss… that stings…”
“Ah! Aaaah!! Let go of me, let go—!!”
White flames engulfed Luo Yuxi’s body, consuming her, but her clothes remained untouched. Holy Flame used her own body as fuel, igniting her soul and burning her opponent with its power.
[Divine Art: Greater Heal]
“That’s much better…”
As white smoke rose from her body, Luo Yuxi cast Greater Heal. Just as she had imagined, her body entered a perfect balance of destruction and regeneration. Creation and destruction occurred simultaneously.
“Haha, I’m invincible now!! Come on, who else wants some?!”
The succubi, seeing the charred remains of their companion in Luo Yuxi’s arms, backed away in fear. This self-immolating attack method was insane. No wonder they said it was better to make an enemy of an entire race than to provoke the Church.
“You’re crazy! Not cute at all!”
“I told you not to get in my way…”
Luo Yuxi glared at the succubus who had taunted her. Even from a distance, she didn’t forget to add insult to injury. Luo Yuxi wanted to chase after her, but after a few steps, she realized it was impractical. This skill required close contact, and she didn’t have any agile movement spells. By the time she reached the succubus, she would have flown away.
“Tsk… I’ll see if I can learn some self-destruct spells later…”
Seeing that the succubi weren’t going to attack, Luo Yuxi extinguished the Holy Flame. Although she wasn’t afraid of the cost, it was an area-of-effect spell. If she accidentally hit a passing elf, it would be troublesome. She rushed to Natalie’s side.
“Natalie! Snap out of it!”
“Yu… Yuxi… Sybil…”
Natalie turned her head stiffly, looking at Luo Yuxi. Feeling the coldness of Sybil’s body in her arms, she looked lifeless, her eyes devoid of light.
“Tsk, really, listen, don’t you dare become a witch!”
[Divine Art: Resurrection]
“!!!”
Natalie, who had been ready to fight the Elf Queen in her rage, looked at Luo Yuxi in shock. A strange light emanated from her, and Sybil’s fatal wound slowly closed.
“I don’t know why, but resurrection magic… I’m so lucky!”
