Chapter 10: Golden Finger
Luo Yuxi stared at the name written in the book, “Nameless Witch.” It sounded impressive. Witches usually earned their titles based on their abilities or the impression they left on the world. For example, Ling Shuang, in the game, was known as the Frost Witch because every time she used her powers, frost covered the land, turning the world white with a wave of her hand.
“Nameless Witch… who is that…?”
Luo Yuxi had even forgotten her pain. She was certain she hadn’t heard even a whisper about this witch in the game. Not just the name, but even the title “Nameless Witch” was unfamiliar.
“Is this also an unexpected situation? A correction from this world…?”
Luo Yuxi flipped through the book in her hands. The text inside was handwritten, further confirming that this was definitely not a book officially included in the Church’s library. Rubbing the yellowed pages, she slowly began to read.
[Year 1971 of the Common Era, the Greed Witch, possessing First Order power, fell under the siege of the Church’s 13 Archbishops. However, her powerful magic rendered the land where she fell uninhabitable for humans, and it became known as the Black Magic Forest.]
“First Order? A new term I haven’t heard before. The Black Magic Forest is a dangerous area in the game that can only be explored after level 90. I didn’t expect the book to explain its origins…”
Luo Yuxi had only casually flipped to a page, but the contents opened up a new perspective. Although she had skipped a lot of the plot before, focusing on the… ahem… CGs, now it was different. Every piece of information was crucial to her survival.
[Year 2113 of the Common Era, overnight, the Pure White Saintess, one of the strongest in the Church headquarters, suddenly fell and became a witch. The specific reason is unknown. After becoming a witch, she killed 16 Second Order members of the Church, and countless Third and Fourth Order members died or were injured. The news was subsequently suppressed.]
Luo Yuxi stared at the record, wanting to touch the dried ink. The game’s backstory did mention the Pure White Saintess, and there was even an important item called the Pure White Saintess’s Bracelet. As for the term “Order,” it should be a power ranking.
“Such detailed records, and there’s even a guide to awakened witches?”
Luo Yuxi quickly flipped through the pages. Besides records of witches, there were also accounts of wars between the Church and witches, some of which Luo Yuxi recognized from the game as famous landmarks.
“It even records how the third largest organization, the Witches’ Coven, was formed! This information isn’t even in the game…!”
Luo Yuxi felt the strength returning to her legs. Suddenly, as she turned to the last page, a strange magic circle appeared. It was clearly not something ordinary. Luo Yuxi curiously reached out to touch it.
“Could this magic circle be… a self-destruct magic circle…?”
She felt it was familiar, like she had seen it somewhere before. As her hand touched the center of the circle, the ink-drawn magic circle instantly transformed into a golden light, blinding her.
“What the heck, I just touched it, how could it…?”
As the blinding light flashed, Luo Yuxi covered her eyes. When the light subsided, she quickly looked at the book on the table, but there was nothing there, just an empty tabletop.
“No way, could it really have been a self-destruct magic circle?”
Luo Yuxi rubbed her head regretfully. She hadn’t finished reading the book. If she had known, she would have read it page by page. Just then, she noticed the same magic circle pattern had appeared on the back of her left hand.
“This, this is…! Why is it on my hand?”
[Someone has finally read my notes. In that case, consider this a small gift from me~]
“What was that voice? Who are you?!”
Luo Yuxi was initially startled by the voice in her head, but when it fell silent, she lowered her guard. Looking at the pattern on her hand, she suddenly realized it was the loading screen image from the game.
“Why would a game loading screen suddenly appear on my hand…?”
[Ding]
[Luo Yuxi]
Occupation: Nun
Affiliation: Church
Strength: 7
Intelligence: 12
Agility: 6
Charm: 43
Skills: Advanced Resurrection, Basic Healing, Holy Light
Titles: Excellent Nun, Blood Witch’s Toy, Frost’s Bride
Order Level: 11th Order (Just Entered the Order)
Luo Yuxi was momentarily stunned by the information that suddenly appeared before her. The panel displayed her current status. Her heart leaped with joy. Could this be her golden finger?
“Although it’s a little late, it’s better than nothing~”
Looking at the information, her stats were all dismal except for her charm. She finally understood why she had been pinned down and unable to resist.
“Sigh, so I’m this weak. But I didn’t expect to have an Order Level… even if it’s only 11th…”
Looking at her pathetic stats, it felt like this golden finger wasn’t there to help her, but to show her how weak she was. It was like a reality check.
“Forget it, whatever. But what’s with ‘Blood Witch’s Toy’ and ‘Frost’s Bride’?”
Luo Yuxi knew the first title was definitely because of Alice, and the second was likely due to Ling Shuang’s three-day “torment.” They were practically bed partners now, so such a title wasn’t surprising. She sighed and looked at the skills section, which explained how she had been able to resurrect Sybil’s pet.
“I didn’t expect it to be Advanced Resurrection. It seems I don’t need to increase my combat power too quickly. Being a healer in the backlines works too…”
Luo Yuxi felt like she had gained something unexpected. Looking at the game-like interface in her vision, she felt that although the book was gone, it was worth it. This was a golden finger, after all. Although there was no tutorial or guide, she had read dozens of novels.
“This magic circle is truly a good thing…”
“Sister, are you in there? I’m coming in~”
“I just left for a little while, why are you looking for me again…?”
As the door opened, Luo Yuxi saw Ling Shuang in her nun’s habit. The information panel in her mind, which had gone quiet, suddenly lit up again.
