    1. Secret Class?

Upon hearing his beautiful master’s words, four characters and a cover in the style of a Korean webtoon appeared in Yan Zhen’s mind:

    “Secret Class”.

He quickly shook his head to dispel the strange thoughts.

But how could his beautiful master say such a thing? With her cold and aloof temperament, it shouldn’t be possible. Could it be that she intentionally said it to soothe his emotions?

    Very likely.

Although his beautiful master had a cold temperament, that was towards outsiders. She was very gentle to her own people, especially to him, her disciple.

Thinking of this, Yan Zhen felt even more guilty. He had actually caused his beautiful master to worry to this extent. He was too immature.

“Master, I was wrong. I will focus on practicing.”

    “That’s how it should be.”

Chen Xi nodded with satisfaction, her eyes containing a hint of doting love and a trace of mischief.

In her previous life, she clearly felt that Yan Zhen had a hint of romantic admiration for her, like a young boy who had just entered puberty looking up to a beautiful and youthful older neighbor girl.

It was just that Chen Xi was too cold and stern, so the sensible Yan Zhen quickly extinguished his little thoughts and sincerely revered her as his master, like a parent.

The two could be said to have relied on each other for a period of time.

However, Chen Xi herself slowly developed inappropriate feelings for Yan Zhen during their later interactions, mixed in with the deep affection between master and disciple, causing her, who had never experienced love, to gradually lose herself.

She had tried her best to suppress this forbidden love, but failed. On the day of his grand wedding, her love and regret erupted, tormenting her body and mind.

    Fortunately, she was reborn.

Since the heavens had given her a chance to do it again, she naturally would not miss it a second time.

Become his master, then amplify his admiration for her, slowly let him get closer, and finally have him enter her embrace like a swallow returning to its nest.

She couldn’t be in a hurry. She would propose the “Dual Cultivation Teaching” after some time, so as not to scare him.

—Hehehe, Zhen’er, master’s Zhen’er, so cute when tiny, and so handsome when grown up, making master unable to resist falling for you~

Looking at Yan Zhen’s fair and handsome face, Chen Xi couldn’t suppress the palpitations in her heart. She once again circulated her hidden force and pulled him into her arms, hugging him tightly, her towering chest engulfing his little face.

“Zhen’er, you got distracted again (smirk)~”

    “Wuwuwu, sorry (teary-eyed)!”

    ……

Half a month later, Yan Zhen finally grasped the soft force of the “Tai Chi Shock” through the daily painfully pleasurable sparring.

But this didn’t count as having learned the “Tai Chi Shock”.

The strength of the “Tai Chi Shock” lied in the word “shock”. After mastering the soft force, it could then be transformed into shock force, allowing for powerful counterattacks against the opponent, not just constant defense.

His cultivation had also successfully advanced to Mystic Disciple 7th stage, and his mystic power had significantly increased. However, there was still no apparent change when sparring with his beautiful master.

As for the “secret class” his beautiful master had mentioned, there was no sign of it at all. It should be just as he guessed, merely a figure of speech.

Regarding this, Yan Zhen felt a bit of regret, but also a sense of relief.

Originally, his beautiful master teaching him to cultivate the “Tai Chi Shock” instead of the “Eight Extremes Explosion” had already deviated from the script. If she also gave him a “secret class”, then this master-disciple interaction cultivation plotline would have gone completely off track.

His beautiful master was an even more crucial plot character than Huangfu Wenqing. If her character setting collapsed and the plot went astray, then Yan Zhen would also be finished.

No, it should be said that everyone would be finished together.

If they couldn’t reach the ending according to the plot trajectory, this indulgent novel world would collapse.

Currently, it was still fine. His beautiful master had said she would teach him the “Eight Extremes Explosion” later, which should be able to bring things back on track.

The third stage of sparring began, with the goal of mastering shock force.

Another half a month passed, and Yan Zhen successfully transformed soft force into shock force, capable of returning eighty percent of the opponent’s force back to them. He could be considered to have preliminarily learned this “Tai Chi Shock” with a rank as high as the general stage.

At the same time, his cultivation also advanced to Mystic Disciple 8th stage, a month earlier than scheduled in the script.

But he couldn’t control it. Even though he had been sparring with his beautiful master the whole time and hadn’t cultivated much mystic power, he still leveled up.

This made Yan Zhen very puzzled.

“Zhen’er, you take a medicinal bath every day after sparring. Your body absorbed some of the energy from the medicinal soup, so you had a breakthrough.”

After hearing his beautiful master’s explanation, Yan Zhen scratched his head, thinking that this was also possible?

Although there was no threshold from the 7th to 8th stage, him advancing so easily didn’t fit the story’s tone of “cultivation being arduous”.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host for completing the key plot point ‘Cultivating a General Mystic Technique’. You can go to the interface to claim your reward.]

“Huh? System, did you make a mistake? I didn’t cultivate the ‘Eight Extremes Explosion’. I practiced the ‘Tai Chi Shock’. I haven’t even started learning the ‘Eight Extremes Explosion’ yet.”

[Reporting back to the host, the plot requires the host to cultivate the general mystic technique taught by Master Chen Xi and defeat the opponent in the upcoming family competition. The ‘Tai Chi Shock’ is a general mystic technique.]

“What about the ‘Eight Extremes Explosion’?”

[Signature techniques are related to the protagonist’s character setting. The host must learn it.]

    “Oh~”

    Yan Zhen seemed to understand.

It meant that whatever his beautiful master taught him, he would learn it, and that would complete the cultivation plot.

But the signature techniques mentioned in the script also had to be learned in order to perfect the character setting.

Some techniques closely related to the plot absolutely could not be omitted.

For example, in the mid-stage, he would obtain a secret technique not passed down by a certain force, and he would be hunted down by that force because he cultivated that secret technique.

If he didn’t learn the relevant technique, he wouldn’t be able to trigger the relevant plot.

In general, when it came to techniques, he could only learn more, not less.

    ……

Another month passed. Yan Zhen’s cultivation unsurprisingly advanced to Mystic Disciple 9th stage. The “Tai Chi Shock” also became more proficient after a month of continuous sparring. He could already go back and forth with his beautiful master when she wasn’t using mystic power, but he still occasionally fell into her arms or under her skirt.

Every time he made a mistake, his beautiful master would give him a look or tap his forehead, meaning for him not to make mischief.

Yan Zhen could only awkwardly scratch his head and give an embarrassed smile to act cute.

However, Yan Zhen could feel that the affection between him and his master had significantly warmed up during their unintentional physical contact. His beautiful master was no longer unfamiliar with him like in the beginning and became increasingly close.

Just as described in the script.

Yan Zhen also corrected his attitude, no longer being confused by white hair and G-cup breasts, wholeheartedly revering his master, perfectly playing the role of a disciple.

Since he took on the position of the protagonist, this was the best plotline he had acted out.

His beautiful master was simply great, unlike Yan Meng’er who added impromptu scenes, and unlike Huangfu Wenqing who randomly collapsed the plot…

Tomorrow was the family competition. Yan Zhen went to bed early to rest and conserve his energy.

The next day, when the morning sun rose, Yan Zhen had already finished washing up.

Walking out of the courtyard and taking a breath of fresh air, he saw Yan Meng’er coming over with a food box.

    “Cousin, good morning~”

    “Good morning, Meng’er.”

During these two months, Yan Zhen had been focused on cultivation and didn’t have much time to interact with Yan Meng’er. But this girl still came to deliver food to him every day, making Yan Zhen a bit touched. His attitude towards her had also improved a lot.

    1. The Self-Doubting Yan Zhen

“The posture of the ‘Grand Negation(Tai Chi Shock or Tai Chi Thunder)’ is also called ‘zhuang(Post-standing)’. Zhuang training is the foundation and the most important aspect, so it cannot be neglected.”

And so, Yan Zhen began to practice the horse stance.

It took a full five days for Yan Zhen to finally become proficient in the posture of the “Tai Chi Shock” and begin the second stage of sparring with his beautiful master.

The first stage of sparring was to get hit, training muscle memory to quickly understand what is meant by soft force and shock force.

The second stage of sparring is push hands, learning to receive, neutralize, and issue force.

Still on the altar in the crystal space, Yan Zhen and his beautiful master assumed identical “Tai Chi Shock” postures, their hands intertwined, pushing and pulling each other. Their feet also moved back and forth in rhythm with their hands, but one foot always remained planted in place.

    “It doesn’t seem very difficult.”

    “Is that so?”

Chen Xi smiled mysteriously, and the force of her hands began to alternate and change, like a vortex pulling Yan Zhen’s hands, causing him to stumble back and forth involuntarily to her rhythm, completely disrupting his lower body.

Yan Zhen felt like a small boat in the waves, rocking back and forth, about to capsize at any moment.

Sure enough, when Chen Xi let go, Yan Zhen fell like a little kid who had just learned to walk.

In a moment of urgency, he hugged with both hands, embracing his beautiful master’s slender waist.

But her clothes were too slippery, and Yan Zhen couldn’t stabilize this posture. His hands quickly slid down to his beautiful master’s plump buttocks, completely enveloped by that indescribable softness, and his face was buried in her lower abdomen, with bursts of fragrance entering his nostrils.

    —It’s over!

Yan Zhen’s heart sank, feeling a chill down his spine and cold sweat on his forehead.

—He was well aware that his beautiful master had a very traditional, conservative, and cold temperament. Falling into her arms could still be explained as a junior acting coquettishly with a senior, barely passable. But now his perverted hands were groping her jade buttocks, a complete and utter disrespect that could not be justified no matter what!

In the script, there was a scene where Yan Zhen accidentally touched his beautiful master’s bottom, and his hand was immediately dismembered at the wrist, elbow, and shoulder joints, leaving him in pain for an entire night before it was reattached.

    “Ma- Master…”

Yan Zhen timidly raised his little face, trying his best to make a pitiful expression to gain his beautiful master’s forgiveness, but he saw her gently place her hand on the top of his head.

    “!!!”

—An immortal patting my head, an inch of force shattering my crown?

Yan Zhen’s face turned pale, but Chen Xi did not brutally beat him as he imagined. She only said with a hint of helplessness:

“Aren’t you going to let go of your master?”

    “Ah? Oh, oh.”

Yan Zhen dazedly let go and stood up, standing properly with his head lowered like a misbehaving elementary school student.

    “…Master, I was wrong.”

“Wrong about what? Don’t just stand there foolishly, continue the sparring.”

“Ah? Master, you’re not blaming me?”

“It’s normal to have occasional physical contact during sparring. Don’t think wild thoughts, focus.”

    “Oh.”

—She didn’t get angry or hit me. Is this still the same beautiful master who would dislocate her own disciple’s joints just for a single touch?

Looking at her still otherworldly face, Yan Zhen suddenly understood why his beautiful master wasn’t angry.

She must not see him as a “member of the opposite sex”, but simply as a “disciple”.

While he was the opposite. He called her master with his mouth, but his heart was always drawn to her white hair and G-cup breasts, never truly revering her as a real master.

—I’m really terrible. My beautiful master teaches me so wholeheartedly, yet I’m always thinking about irrelevant things. I’ve let her down so much.

Moreover, this doesn’t fit the “upgrade machine” character setting at all.

Although the cultivation of the “Tai Chi Shock” deviated from the script, as a qualified actor, one must maintain their character setting at all times before the shooting wraps up.

At this moment, Yan Zhen had a sudden realization. He adjusted his breathing, and his restless mood gradually settled down. His expression also became more composed.

He resumed the “Tai Chi Shock” posture, placing his hands on his beautiful master’s outstretched hands, and said in a mature man’s husky voice:

“Come, Master. I will concentrate on practicing properly.”

However, in less than fifteen minutes, Yan Zhen fell again.

This time, he grabbed wildly with both hands and actually grabbed his beautiful master’s waistband. Then with a pull, he immediately loosened the waistband.

Freed from the restraint of the waistband, the dark martial robes on Chen Xi’s body were instantly stretched open by those two huge mounds, revealing a dazzling glimpse of spring scenery to Yan Zhen’s eyes.

    “!!!”

How could Yan Zhen remain composed? He felt his blood instantly rush up, a hot stream slowly flowing from his nostrils, his mind filled with thoughts of “big, big, big” and “white, white, white”.

Chen Xi covered her chest with one arm, her legs tightly closed, and said:

“Zhen’er, quickly return the waistband to your master.”

Her tone was still as light as a breeze, showing no hint of anger.

    “I’m sorry, Master. I… I didn’t mean to—”

Yan Zhen hurriedly got up and handed the waistband back to his beautiful master.

    “No matter.”

Chen Xi took the waistband and retied it, wrapping her enchanting figure tightly once more.

    “Alright, let’s continue.”

Yan Zhen nodded, secretly vowing that he absolutely could not make similar mistakes again. Otherwise, even if his beautiful master didn’t see him as a member of the opposite sex, she would still get angry.

After another round of push hands practice, Yan Zhen, who had been keeping his mind taut, did not repeat his mistake, and felt slightly relieved.

However, with just this momentary lapse in concentration, Yan Zhen once again fell into a passive position and then fell yet again.

His hands hugged his beautiful master’s slender jade legs, his head tightly pressed against them as if he were an accessory hanging from her legs.

    Yan Zhen was dumbfounded.

How could this be? He hadn’t learned the “Pear God Fall”(1)*! Why did he fall onto his beautiful master every time he fell!?

    “Zhen’er…”

Hearing a hint of reproach in his beautiful master’s voice, Yan Zhen, who was half-kneeling, immediately raised his head to look, meeting her gaze.

He saw her beautiful brows slightly furrowed, her eyes revealing a hint of suspicion, clearly doubting whether Yan Zhen was doing it on purpose!

“Master, I, I, I really didn’t do it on purpose. You have to believe me!”

“Of course your master believes you.”

As Chen Xi spoke, her brows slowly relaxed, and the suspicion in her eyes gradually dissipated. She reached out her jade-like hand and patted Yan Zhen’s head, indicating that he need not be nervous.

    “Master…”

Yan Zhen was greatly moved. He had not expected the ice mountain master from the script to actually be so gentle with him, like a loving mother.

—Damn it, how could I keep taking advantage of my beautiful master? Could it be that my subconscious desire for intimacy caused my body to unconsciously act it out?!

—No! I am a principled lsp (lonely single dog)! I’m not some stud who would make a move on my own master!

The gentler Chen Xi was, the guiltier Yan Zhen felt, even beginning to doubt himself.

But then he heard her say:

“Zhen’er, your master understands that boys your age will always have some thoughts about men and women, but now is the time for cultivation. You should focus.”

    Yan Zhen said pitifully:

“I’m sorry, Master. I was wrong.”

Chen Xi patted his head and said gently:

“If you are truly curious about a woman’s body, then wait until after you finish cultivating. Your master will teach you then.”

Yan Zhen subconsciously nodded, and it took him a while to react to what his beautiful master had said. He instantly froze.

    What???

Chapter 28: Master and Disciple Sparring

Compared to ‘Eight Extremes Explosive’, the ‘Grand Negation’ mystic technique was actually more suitable for Yan Zhen’s current Mystic Disciple cultivation level.

However, ‘Grand Negation’ emphasized subtly borrowing the opponent’s force to counter them and overcoming brawn with dexterity. The best way to teach it was through master-disciple sparring, providing guidance in actual combat situations that would involve frequent intimate physical contact.

In the previous life during this time, Chen Xi still harbored some wariness towards Yan Zhen and was unwilling to have too much contact with him, so she taught the more aggressive ‘Eight Extremes Explosive’ instead.

Cultivating ‘Eight Extremes Explosive’ only required a wooden dummy or large tree. One would circulate mystic energy into their fists and practice punching. Chen Xi merely needed to observe from the side, occasionally providing some pointers, without doing much else. The cultivation relied mainly on Yan Zhen’s own efforts.

But the previous life was the previous life, things were different now.

As a qualified master, she naturally should teach her disciple the best and most suitable mystic technique.

As for any frequent intimate physical contact, there was no need to avoid it. In fact, it was a good opportunity to deepen the bond between master and disciple.

On the altar in the crystal space, Yan Zhen clenched his fists and launched an attack towards the beautiful senior.

For ease of movement, Chen Xi changed into a practical outfit.

The tight-fitting dark violet battle attire accentuated her alluring curves, especially her exaggerated bust that seemed ready to burst out at any moment.

Her snow-white hair was simply tied back in a ponytail that swayed gently behind her hips.

The overall look exuded a different charm from her usual long robes and unbound hairstyle of a fairy-like maiden – more like a sporty elder sister next door.

Seeing Yan Zhen’s full-force attack, Chen Xi smiled faintly. Her jade hand gently extended, fluidly deflecting his ferocious punch while her right foot stepped out, striking Yan Zhen’s knee.

His leg buckled, immediately losing balance as he tumbled straight towards Chen Xi.

He felt a soft bounce before his entire face was buried in a fragrant ravine, nose and mouth tightly covered, temporarily unable to breathe.

Even Chen Xi couldn’t help feeling a bit flushed, but she didn’t dislike it. Instead, she hooked Yan Zhen’s neck with her arm in a chokehold-like position.

She had never been this intimate with him before. A sense of novelty, accomplishment, and happiness welled up inside, softening her voice, “In battle, stability is crucial. Don’t neglect your lower body, Zhen’er.”

Yan Zhen could only let out muffled sounds to indicate he understood.

    “Again.”

Seeing this was enough, Chen Xi released him in time.

Yan Zhen extracted his small head from that oppressively snug ravine, his handsome face completely flushed red and breathing heavily.

After adjusting his breath, he attacked again, this time even using his family’s ‘Flame Palm’ mystic technique. His right palm radiated scorching heat like a red-hot iron plate, thinking this way the beautiful senior wouldn’t be able to casually touch his hand!

“Although a low-grade technique, your execution wasn’t bad, but sadly—”

Chen Xi somehow bypassed Yan Zhen’s ‘Flame Palm’, her jade-like hands precisely gripping his wrist. With a smooth upward lift and spin, her other hand supported his waist as she exerted force.

Yan Zhen felt he lost control of his body, rapidly spinning like a ballet dancer before collapsing softly into the beautiful senior’s embrace.

    “—your movements were too rigid.”

Chen Xi lowered her head, meeting Yan Zhen’s upturned gaze. Her azure eyes faintly revealed a hint of doting affection.

    Yan Zhen’s face reddened again.

The familiar soft, fragrant embrace – he had stumbled into it over twenty times these past two days. Each time was fleeting, leaving him with an itching urge to reciprocate the beautiful senior’s embrace.

But he couldn’t. His persona was that of a ruthless cultivator obsessed with progress, not a licentious disciple defying his master.

    —Resist!

Moreover, for the sake of helping him quickly grasp ‘Grand Negation’, the aloof and chaste beautiful senior was enduring her discomfort with intimate contact. How could he have impure thoughts?

—Can’t let the beautiful senior’s efforts go to waste!

    “Again!”

Yan Zhen shook off the fanciful notions, no longer lingering on the softness and fragrance behind him. He sprang up, putting distance between himself and the beautiful senior. Then, circulating the secrets of the ‘Mystic Body Technique’, he launched his third attack.

    “Oh?”

Chen Xi immediately noticed the difference in Yan Zhen and became slightly more serious.

No matter how Yan Zhen attacked, Chen Xi could easily deflect his punches, dissipate his force, then draw him into her embrace to restrain, lock, or directly fling him for a hard fall.

Since constantly embracing him would seem too deliberate, Chen Xi would sometimes use normal counters to avoid arousing Yan Zhen’s suspicion.

After practicing the entire morning, Yan Zhen was battered all over and had endured several face-washings. He didn’t know whether to feel pain or joy as he lay sprawled on the ground, gasping for breath.

Since this was an interaction with the beautiful senior, the system did not allow directly skipping it, forcing him to diligently practice.

If cultivating ‘Eight Extremes Explosive’ according to the original script, it should have been skippable. Why was it changed to ‘Grand Negation’ instead?!

He thought the beautiful senior would be different from Yan Meng’Er and Huangfu Wenqing, not deviating from the script!

He turned his head to look at the beautiful senior beside him.

Chen Xi was igniting a colorful “starlight glazed flame” in her palm to concoct a medicinal solution for invigorating his blood and dispelling stasis.

After refining it, she poured the solution into a large bathtub filled with water, instantly causing the cool water to boil and turn semi-transparent greenish.

Chen Xi dipped her hand to test the temperature, finding it just right before turning to Yan Zhen, “Zhen’er, quickly get in and soak. Don’t let your qi and blood remain stagnant for too long.”

    “Oh~”

Yan Zhen lazily pulled himself up, stripping off his clothes except for his trunk-patterned boxers before stepping into the large tub.

As his body sank into the hot medicated water, Yan Zhen exhaled deeply, feeling incredibly soothed.

Chen Xi did not avert her eyes. Instead, she stood by the tub, scooping water to rinse over Yan Zhen’s shoulders and neck.

“Zhen’er, these past two days you should have fully experienced the wonders of ‘Grand Negation’s’ dexterous force. Tomorrow we’ll officially begin practicing the ‘Grand Negation’ stances.”

    “Yes, Senior~”

Yan Zhen submerged his mouth, blowing bubbles in the water.

Seeing this, Chen Xi calmly said, “What’s wrong, Zhen’er? Did you have something to say?”

“Um, it’s nothing much. I just wanted to know why Senior is teaching me ‘Grand Negation’.”

“You don’t want to learn it?”

“It’s not that I don’t want to learn it. I just prefer more aggressive mystic techniques. Although this is powerful, it doesn’t quite suit my combat style.”

“You’re just a little Mystic Disciple, what combat style do you have?”

Chen Xi flicked Yan Zhen’s forehead with her finger.

Yan Zhen shrank back, immediately covering it with his hand.

Seeing his adorable reaction, Chen Xi couldn’t help but smile fondly, gently caressing where she had flicked him.

“This master can certainly teach you more aggressive techniques, but don’t bite off more than you can chew. First master the basics of ‘Grand Negation’, then we’ll discuss further.”

“Oh, then I’ll work really hard to quickly grasp ‘Grand Negation’!”

—My silly disciple, no need to rush.

Chen Xi ruffled Yan Zhen’s hair, silently thinking to herself.

  • I Am a Devil, I Only Understand Transactions chapter 10

    Chapter 010: Wonderful

“It’s just that his students happen to be elementary school students. He’s very talented…” Keika Kiyotaki felt that she couldn’t defend Yaichi Kuzuryuu too much.

That time during the live video, the number of viewers on the shogi channel broke the historical record, not because the game was brilliant, but because an elementary school student claimed to be the Dragon King’s bride and kissed the Dragon King in front of everyone.

At that time, Yaichi was taken into custody, causing quite a stir in the shogi world.

“In that case, can I go and watch?” Luo Feng asked. “A 3-dan in the Reward Association is only one step away from being a professional. When Teacher Kuzuryuu became a 4-dan, he won the Dragon King title within a year, which shows that any 4-dan has the ability to challenge that title and also demonstrates how high the threshold for professional shogi players is.”

Strength and victory are not determined by ranks. Otherwise, in shogi, one could just show their rank, and the lower-ranked person would admit defeat.

“Um, won’t you feel like it’s a waste?” Keika Kiyotaki asked uncertainly. “There will be no one to explain the game at that time.”

Luo Feng had paid for the time, not for a few games. If he used this time to watch a game that he couldn’t understand at his level, it would be a complete waste of time.

“The Snow White of Naniwa is a regular customer at my store.” Luo Feng chuckled. “Watching her play seems quite interesting.”

“You know Gin?” Keika Kiyotaki couldn’t help but change the way she addressed her.

“Yes, she’s my customer. My place is an izakaya that also sells various things. If you like, you can come visit.” As Luo Feng spoke, he handed over a business card.

Keika Kiyotaki took the card. Blade Izakaya? Knife Izakaya? What an interesting name.

The owner’s name was Luo Feng. Phone number… email…

Like her father, she was a drinker and enjoyed drinking, especially when she was in a bad mood. This card might be of some use to her.

When she felt like drinking, she would go to his place for a drink. After all, it was just an ordinary izakaya, so it didn’t matter where she drank.

“Why didn’t you say so in the first place?” Keika Kiyotaki asked puzzledly. “If you have a referral from an acquaintance, you can get a 20% discount on membership.”

“Miss Sora is just my customer. We have an average relationship. She’s only interested in the things in my store.” Luo Feng smiled. “She doesn’t seem to like me very much.”

“That’s not true.” Keika Kiyotaki thought of Ginko Sora’s personality and interpersonal relationships and quickly defended her. “She’s not a bad person, just sharp-tongued and a bit domineering in personality.”

It seemed that when she mentioned the 3-dan in the Reward Association earlier, his slight laugh indicated that he already knew about Ginko’s situation. Today, he must have come specifically to watch Ginko play.

Keika Kiyotaki had some idea of how many people Ginko Sora could offend.

If someone showed goodwill towards her, she couldn’t just offend them casually.

“It’s a small matter.” Luo Feng tidied his clothes. “Let’s go watch the game.”

Ginko Sora sat in her seat, silently looking at the shogi board. Her junior brother, Yaichi Kuzuryuu, sat across from her, greeting the dojo’s regular customers.

Ginko Sora was still wearing the same sailor uniform as yesterday. She had many sets of the same outfit, as it was her favorite style.

Unlike Yaichi Kuzuryuu, who greeted everyone, she quietly waited there for the game to begin.

She gripped her fan, not knowing how to play this game.

Now she had that powerful computing ability, but if she used it now and lost that power in three days, wouldn’t she be back to square one?

But if she didn’t use it… she didn’t even know how to not use it.

Now, whenever she saw a move, a shogi board would be simulated in her mind, automatically deducing the moves. It had become an instinct, just like seeing 1+1 and instinctively thinking of 2.

Her computing power had only increased based on her own foundation and wasn’t forcibly obtained from someone else’s ability like Luo Feng.

    “Senior Sister, please guide me.”

Yaichi Kuzuryuu’s voice announcing the start of the game brought Ginko Sora back to her senses.

“Please guide me.” Ginko Sora bowed slightly.

It didn’t matter. She had finally stood at the same height as Yaichi, so how could she not use her hard-earned talent at this moment?

Ginko Sora played first, using her most familiar opening. Yaichi Kuzuryuu didn’t find anything unusual.

It was a very normal opening, a very conventional move, without any novelty or characteristics, even making people feel bored because it was too routine. Neither side gained an advantage.

However, by the twentieth move, Yaichi Kuzuryuu sensed something was off.

Senior Sister’s attack was too early. According to her style and personality, it shouldn’t be this early!

Could it be that she gained inspiration from yesterday’s match?

Because Yaichi Kuzuryuu didn’t notice it at first, he was a bit flustered for a moment.

Fortunately, although her strength had increased, it hadn’t exceeded Yaichi Kuzuryuu’s understanding.

He had encountered opponents of Ginko Sora’s level countless times and quickly turned the situation around.

Ginko Sora didn’t feel it very clearly when she was at Luo Feng’s place, but now she truly felt her own strength.

Her mind began to calculate rapidly, simulating countless possible scenarios and the consequences of each move she made.

Was this the world of shogi prodigies?

    Luo Feng nodded.

    Wonderful!

He didn’t know what was wonderful about it, but the spectators all thought it was wonderful, so it should be wonderful.

He was too lazy to borrow someone else’s talent to analyze. He was just there to watch the fun.

Wasn’t Ginko Sora more interesting than shogi?

His gaze lingered more on Ginko Sora’s face. When she was serious, her charm was really great.

    Tug, tug…

At this moment, Luo Feng felt someone tugging on his sleeve.

He turned his head and saw Keika Kiyotaki.

Luo Feng was a bit puzzled. Why did you tug me?

Thinking of this, he tugged on Keika Kiyotaki, considering it even.

Keika Kiyotaki was instantly covered in black lines. She had no idea what Luo Feng’s purpose was in tugging her.

“Can you understand it?” Keika Kiyotaki whispered.

Everyone was discussing among themselves, but their voices were low, as if they were in a library, afraid of disturbing the two players.

In Japan, secretly filming was illegal, so no one was recording at this time. This was just a private game of shogi.

“I don’t understand.” Luo Feng whispered back. “If everyone else nods and I don’t, won’t they know I don’t understand? Just go along with the wonderful moves.”

Keika Kiyotaki was speechless. Was this even possible?

As they played move after move, the people present gradually couldn’t understand, but they could see that the young Dragon King was gripping his pants, seemingly becoming serious.

    “I lost.”

    Chapter 09: Home Visit

The next afternoon, Luo Feng arrived at the Kiyotaki School’s dojo.

Ginko Sora came from the Kiyotaki School. When she was four years old, she lost a teaching game to Kousuke Kiyotaki(1)*. Afterwards, she found the address of Teacher Kiyotaki’s residence through the internet and went there every day by train to seek revenge. There was even a legend that “because her hands couldn’t reach the ticket machine, the station staff specially placed a platform in front of the machine for her.”

After Ginko Sora’s parents discussed with Teacher Kiyotaki, she eventually became Kousuke Kiyotaki’s disciple.

There were many shogi dojos like this in Japan, similar to chess and card rooms in China. However, the functions here were not as diverse; one could only play shogi here and not play cards or go.

The tatami room was densely packed with many shogi boards, and many seats were already occupied.

Most of the people active in such places were middle-aged and elderly. Young people still preferred to play online.

As soon as Luo Feng entered, a girl came to greet him.

She had brown hair and green eyes, dressed maturely, and was quite good-looking.

“Hello, customer. This is Keika Kiyotaki.” Keika Kiyotaki’s voice was very gentle, with a strong housewife vibe. “Are you here alone? Do you need me to arrange a suitable opponent for you?”

This customer’s attire is so strange. A trench coat, fedora, vest, shirt, and pocket watch, just like an English gentleman. The only thing missing is a cane. But judging from his appearance, he is an Asian.

Does he understand if I speak Japanese? Should I speak English?

New faces like Luo Feng were not common here, as most people who came were regulars and members. Keika Kiyotaki noticed him as soon as he appeared.

“Yes, my name is Luo Feng. I’m here alone. Are you a shogi player?” Luo Feng asked casually.

His Japanese was very fluent and even had a Kansai accent, which was the convenience of being a devil.

He had no interest in such a beauty.

He liked people like Ginko Sora, who had personality, their own pursuits, obsessions, and achievements.

If they couldn’t reach these standards, even if they were beauties, he wouldn’t bother letting them trade with him using their bodies, because he would even feel like he was getting the short end of the stick.

“You… want to play with me?” Keika Kiyotaki was stunned for a moment. “I’m a women’s professional shogi player… If you don’t mind, I’m okay with it.”

Women’s professional shogi players had always been looked down upon in the shogi world, and it was even worse in Japan, where women’s status was relatively low.

For example, in instructional games at events, women’s professional shogi players would be challenged in even games. Even strong amateur shogi players were not certain to lose to players like Ginko Sora.

Of course, such amateur shogi players themselves had the ability to challenge professionals. Amateurs were not guaranteed to lose to professionals.

If a woman won in a women’s game, the opponent might make excuses, saying they didn’t take it seriously because the opponent was a woman. If they lost, they might even say, “I’ll teach you how to play shogi,” and hand over a piece of paper with their address written on it. Regardless of winning or losing, they would be looked down upon.

“I only know the rules of shogi. Can you teach me?” Luo Feng showed a kind smile.

His level was indeed only knowing the rules. Let alone shogi, his go level was also just knowing how to play. As for Chinese chess, it was a bit better. At least if given a chariot handicap, he could play with the old men in the park.

When he played shogi with Ginko Sora before, he used other people’s abilities, not his own.

He was like using cheats, knowing how to make the right moves, but he didn’t know the significance of making those moves and couldn’t see the development dozens of steps later.

“Sure, I’d be happy to.” Keika Kiyotaki nodded.

Luo Feng was not bad-looking, and one could even say he was quite good. In addition, his unique aura and attire were also very attractive.

Since that was the case, even if he had ulterior motives and wanted to take this opportunity to pursue her, Keiko Kiyotaki had no resistance.

This was the advantage of good looks. If a handsome guy accidentally bumped into someone on the train, the other person might think it was unintentional. If it were a lecherous old man, they might think he was a pervert.

Soon, Luo Feng paid the fee and found a corner with Keiko Kiyotaki to start playing.

The dojo had more than just her as a service staff, so there was no problem with her playing shogi.

After sitting down, Luo Feng sniffed and said softly, “Have you been drinking?”

“Um… sorry, last night my father’s disciple became a 3-dan in the Reward Association, so we held a banquet to celebrate.” Keika Kiyotaki said apologetically.

“Oh, a 3-dan in the Reward Association.” Luo Feng chuckled.

“She’s a girl, you know. The first female 3-dan in the Reward Association.” When Keika Kiyotaki saw that Luo Feng seemed unimpressed, she quickly explained on behalf of Ginko Sora.

“That’s impressive.” Luo Feng nodded. “Do you want to become a 3-dan in the Reward Association?”

“Me? I’m way too far from that.” Keika Kiyotaki laughed bitterly. “Being able to become a women’s professional shogi player is already a blessing from the God of Shogi.”

    Her rank was C1, with B2, B1, A2, A1, and S above her.

Only A-rank could enter the Reward Association, and that was the lowest 6-kyu. Above that, there were 5-kyu, 4-kyu, 3-kyu, 2-kyu, 1-kyu, 1-dan, 2-dan, and then Ginko Sora’s 3-dan.

“If you want, the God of Shogi will bless you.” Luo Feng smiled. “Let’s start the game.”

“Thank you for your kind words.”

Keika Kiyotaki didn’t pay much attention to Luo Feng’s consolation. She had heard such consolation countless times.

She had just become a women’s professional shogi player not long ago, and the road ahead was still long. She didn’t know if she could reach A-rank before retirement, let alone possess Ginko Sora’s current level.

Talent and aptitude were the biggest limitations. Those monsters were all talented and hardworking people.

As the two began playing shogi, Keika Kiyotaki truly let her guard down. Luo Feng was indeed a beginner who only knew the rules and couldn’t even tell the outcome.

As they played, she instructed him, telling him what situations were dead ends and at what point he didn’t need to make any more moves.

Luo Feng also maintained a learner’s attitude and played happily.

The two casually played three quick games, and then exclamations were heard from the dojo.

“The Snow White of Naniwa is here.”

    “Miss Sora, congratulations.”

“The Dragon King is here too.”

“Oh, Gin and Yaichi are here. They will play a public game in the dojo today.” Keika Kiyotaki’s eyes lit up.

With such outstanding disciples, as a teacher, one definitely had to show off. Moreover, having them play shogi in this dojo could also attract more customers.

Even if Ginko Sora was unwilling, it was not good to disobey her teacher.

“You have a good relationship.” Luo Feng said softly.

“Yes, I’ve always treated them as my younger siblings. You probably don’t know yet, but Yaichi is the Dragon King. He’s a very impressive shogi player. Last year, he even defeated the godlike Meijin(Shogi title).”

“Is that so?” Luo Feng’s narrow eyes opened slightly. “I read related reports. He seems to be… a lolicon.”

Chapter 08: I Have No Morals

Doing a business deal and teaching a scheming angel a lesson was just an episode in Luo Feng’s devil career.

He was now in the washroom, frantically washing his hands.

Although that sacred angelic body had a nice feel to it, hitting it made his hands a bit dirty. How could something as disgusting as holy light exist?

Heaven should be destroyed so that there would be no more holy light in the world.

After washing his hands, Luo Feng returned to his computer.

He casually opened a bottle of holy water and gulped it down.

He hated holy light, but he didn’t hate holy water. Alcohol brewed with holy water was stronger and more intense than ordinary alcohol.

The good thing about alcohol was its unpleasant taste. He didn’t dwell too much on the taste anyway. As long as there was human evil to blend it with, it was quite enjoyable to drink.

“That feels good.” Luo Feng leaned back in his chair. “After a beating, my mind is so clear. It would have been even better if I could have torn off her wings. Two hundred years is such a long time…”

Knowing that he had a competitor on his path to becoming a lord, Luo Feng tapped his temple.

He wasn’t afraid of competition, but he didn’t like trouble.

However, this was a decision made by the higher-ups in hell. He wasn’t a lord yet and couldn’t change anything.

But couldn’t this trouble be turned into something interesting?

The process of tormenting humans seemed like it could also be used to torment the cute little angel.

How interesting would it be to make an angel like Raphi fall?

Turning her wings black would be much more interesting than tearing them off!

Luo Feng stroked his chin, deep in thought. “I’ll deal with things as they come. This way, it can add some fun to life. Let me see how my cute little Gin is doing.”

He had taken away Ginko Sora’s memory of those two games and didn’t know if it had a big impact on her. Hopefully, she wouldn’t pull out her hair in despair.

That cute silver hair would be such a waste if she went bald.

Luo Feng placed his right index finger on his temple and began remotely listening to the girl’s thoughts.

As long as Luo Feng knew who she was, what she looked like, and her name, he could directly lock onto her location. Mortals basically couldn’t escape his surveillance.

Let alone being in a different city, they couldn’t escape even if they were on a different planet.

‘He said Yaichi has good romantic luck…’

‘What others say might be fake, but what he says should be true, right?’

‘So, does Yaichi really have good romantic luck? Will his final choice… be me?’

‘Actually… he’s not much older than those two elementary school girls. By the time he reaches the true pinnacle, they’ll already be in high school.’

‘Why can’t he slow down? Why can’t he wait for me?’

‘I really want to play against him in a professional match…’

‘I’m not like Ai Hinatsuru(1)*. I’m not as cute as her.’

‘I’m not like Ai Yashajin. I’m not a child raised by talented parents.’

‘I’m not like Keika(2)*. I can’t heal Yaichi with gentleness.’

‘Clumsy and ill-tempered me can’t do anything.’

‘I can neither do anything for Yaichi nor give him anything.’

‘A shabby body that spoils in the sun and a wooden brain that can’t even clearly visualize a shogi board.’

‘So all I have is this small shogi board. The only place that can attract Yaichi’s attention is on this small shogi board.’

‘The day I become a professional shogi player… in an official match, I can play shogi with him seriously.’

‘Although the match only lasts a few short hours, during that time, he belongs only to me.’

‘But… I refused the god’s deal. Can he grant me the power to advance to 4-dan? Can he grant me a strong body that won’t collapse before my will does?’

‘Hmm, what exactly were those two game records? They felt important. One was a game I played, and the other was a game between gods. Why can’t I remember them?’

‘My definition is that if those game records were released, they could even change the world of shogi.’

‘This isn’t the definition of that wooden brain. It’s the definition of my current computing power.’

‘Each move in the middle game could branch out into different playing styles. Neither side used the optimal solution for each move. In the end… who won in the end?’

‘But do I really have to go beg him? Make a deal with him?’

‘No, shogi is important to me, and Yaichi is equally important to me…’

‘Didn’t I want to become a professional shogi player to chase after Yaichi’s footsteps?’

“She’s actually thinking about someone else. How can I let anyone else touch the toy I’ve set my eyes on?” Luo Feng stroked his chin. “Tsk, she clearly had her own passion for shogi.”

Luo Feng wasn’t talking to Ginko Sora but muttering to himself.

She had someone she liked, and the person she liked was her junior brother from the same teacher.

Hmm… what difference does that make?

Luo Feng said that Yaichi Kuzuryuu didn’t need to make a wish because he hadn’t heard the whispers of a devil and hadn’t been tempted by a devil.

Even he must have something he wanted. There was no one who had no desires at all.

He could show him the game records of Teku and Blanco to attract him, or he could help him develop new strategies himself.

He should be quite obsessed with shogi too, right?

As for the price, it would be this fate.

In the eyes of a devil, there was nothing that couldn’t be traded.

    But… is this interesting?

Or I could make a deal with him for other things, lure him little by little, make him go in the opposite direction of Gin, and even lead him into the abyss.

Also, I can create countless interesting scenarios to make Gin completely lose hope.

Either way is fine. It doesn’t matter how I torment them. I’m bored anyway.

Luo Feng lightly licked his lips and showed a delighted smile.

He never thought about whether doing this was immoral or whether he was breaking up a couple that might have ended up together, breaking up this beautiful story in the shogi world.

I have no morals. Morality can’t hold me hostage.

He was a devil, a devil who toyed with people’s hearts. If he still had to consider his human nature from when he was alive, why would he choose to become a devil? Wouldn’t it be better to reincarnate directly?

Thinking of this, Luo Feng’s hands started typing on the keyboard. He would do whatever was interesting and fun.

He hadn’t forgotten about his main task, which was to get the employees in hell to quickly develop an interesting app so that he wouldn’t have to sense and search for people one by one. That was too troublesome.

This program definitely wasn’t something no one had thought of before, but did their words matter? Would the higher-ups in hell listen to them?

Whether in the human world, heaven, or hell, power and strength were eternal.

Unfortunately, now heaven and hell had some kind of cease-fire agreement.

Otherwise, tempting some more powerful beings would definitely be more interesting than playing with mortals.

Currently, only Raphi had the potential to be tempted. After all, the prerequisite for being tempted was not being pure enough.

    Chapter 07: Fallen Angel

Tokyo, an ordinary apartment, in a dark room.

The curtains were tightly drawn, and the flickering white light from the screen was a bit dazzling in the dim room.

A blonde girl sat cross-legged in front of the desk, her fingers rapidly clicking the left mouse button.

“Tsk, this game doesn’t have Richelieu, right? Definitely not, right? Why can’t I ever draw him…?” The girl looked at her depleted salary and sighed helplessly.

The girl pushed the mouse away, her face full of impatience as she grabbed her hair, reached out to grab the snacks beside her, and stuffed them into her mouth to eat.

She was playing a pay-to-win gacha game on a computer using a mobile game emulator. She had spent all her money but still didn’t draw the character she wanted.

“This trash world should just be destroyed!” She reached out to grab something but found nothing. Only then did she remember that her horn and divine power were gone.

Let alone destroying the world, she didn’t even have the strength to blow up that game company.

“Tsk, not an angel anymore, huh…?” She didn’t dwell on it for too long.

Life was about gaming. Instead of wasting time pondering whether she was still an angel or had allowance money, it was better to spend that time doing more meaningful things.

She opened a 2D side-scrolling game and grumbled, “Time to grind again.”

Knock, knock, knock! At this moment, a clear knocking sound suddenly rang out.

“Gabriel… hiss, are you there?” Raphi stood at the apartment door, her face slightly pale.

Footsteps sounded inside the room, and soon, the door was opened with a click. The blonde girl opened the door and saw her former classmate and current good friend.

She yawned, “You’re here, Raphi. Did you bring me food?”

“No, let’s talk inside.” Raphi shook her head.

The air was filled with a scent that smelled very fragrant at first, but after a few more sniffs, it became a bit sickening. It was the smell of instant noodles. The room was dark, with no lights on, and only the flickering white light from the laptop.

Next to the computer, there were a few opened bags of chips and two half-empty bottles of cola. The clothes taken off weren’t neatly folded but simply thrown on the bed. The slippers weren’t neatly arranged either, with one here and one there.

The blonde girl was wearing a red tracksuit top, with no pants on her lower body.

“Hiss… it’s cold. Come in quickly.” The girl hurriedly pulled Raphi in and closed the door.

Feeling the warmth inside the room, the girl sighed in relief.

“Gabriel, I’m here to bring you good news.” Raphi used her divine power to seal off her sense of smell.

When they were experiencing life in the human world before, they couldn’t easily use their divine power, but after becoming official angels, doing such small things was not a problem. This girl was the Gabriel that Luo Feng and Raphi had mentioned before, a fallen angel expelled from heaven, and a fallen angel without divine power.

“Sit. What’s the good news? Has heaven decided to restore my allowance?” Gabriel sat on the bed. Raphi tried to sit down, but as soon as she did, she jumped up like a startled cat.

“What’s wrong with you?” Gabriel looked at her puzzledly.

Raphi gritted her teeth. In order to secure this opportunity for Gabriel, she had gone through who knows how many back doors. Everything had been going smoothly until she encountered Luo Feng. Just now, Luo Feng had spanked her butt for ten minutes, a full ten minutes, from the initial pain to a strange feeling at the end. She wanted to use her own power to heal it, but she couldn’t.

Her butt remained fiery hot. At this moment, Raphi was thankful that she was an angel. Devils had a natural aversion and disdain for divine power. Otherwise, who knew what other terrifying things would have happened? In theory, he shouldn’t have done that! With the truce between heaven and hell, was he trying to provoke a war? During this sensitive period of competition, doing this was too disadvantageous for him, right? No, she had to protest. He should be waiting for punishment!

“It’s nothing.” Raphi took out a file from her cleavage and handed it to Gabriel.

“Heaven has decided to restore your divine power and help you become a true fallen angel to compete for one of the positions of the Seven Lords of Hell.”

“Lord?” Gabriel was stunned for a moment.

“What kind of joke is this? Those are the seven most powerful and authoritative devils in hell. How could I possibly run for the position of a lord?”

“Because Vignette became an archangel, so you can run for the position of a lord.” Raphi smiled.

“In the current heaven and hell, where is the absolute good and evil?” After becoming a true angel, she clearly knew that most of the things she learned before were useless. Whether angels or demons, their internal systems were divided into two types: warfare and civil service. Those in civil service, due to their insufficient purity of beliefs and kindness, had poor strength. Although Luo Feng had a high position and strong power, what he was doing now as a civil servant was the work of low-level devils. Compared to true civil servants, his behavior was more like entertainment.

Civil servants were like Raphi, who liked to use their brains and liked to be flexible. In other words, they were good at politics. The pure ones were like Vignette, who became an archangel. They gained tremendous power simply because of their kindness and righteousness. They were the symbol of heaven and were responsible for fighting.

“I don’t want to compete either…” Gabriel lay on the bed and rolled over.

“It’s so comfortable to play games all day. Now that I don’t have to follow heaven’s rules, I can just live peacefully like this for the rest of my life. This is my pursuit!”

“Gabriel, I paid a heavy price to get this for you.” Raphi’s smile gradually became strange.

“I don’t want to be a devil. I don’t want to. I don’t like tricking people into signing those weird contracts either…” “Being a devil, especially a lord-level devil, the most important thing is to be free-spirited. This position is very suitable for you.”

“Hmm, even if I become one, I’ll just be a figurehead, right? They won’t really consult me on important matters. Heaven doesn’t go to Vignette for important matters either. They just give her work that suits her, right?” Gabriel still didn’t want to take on this job. “I’m not good at being a spy.”

“Let’s talk about it after you become one.” Raphi grabbed Gabriel’s face, her pretty face close to hers.

“Do you know that for this contract, I even got beaten up by that damn Luo Feng?”

“Ah? The guy who defeated my sister?” Gabriel was shocked.

“Don’t you want to get revenge on him?” Raphi said. “We’ll ruin his plans, and then you can act in character. You’ll definitely become a qualified fallen angel.”

“No, no.” Gabriel’s head shook like a rattle drum. “He’ll tear off our wings and hang them up.”

“This isn’t a military competition. He won’t go that far.” Raphi held Gabriel down. “If I got beaten up for nothing… believe me, I’ll suck away all your luck. When your luck disappears, you should know what kind of gaming experience you’ll have.”

“…” Gabriel’s mouth gaped open. Without luck, let alone Richelieu, she wouldn’t be able to draw anything. It would be an eternal blue sky and white clouds.

“I can even cut off your internet connection.” Raphi continued to threaten. Gabriel’s body trembled. I’m definitely taking this lord position!

  • I Am a Devil, I Only Understand Transactions chapter 6

    Chapter 06: Competitor

“I never thought that Gabriel(1)* would really fall…” Raphi sighed softly.

“Becoming lazy despite graduating at the top of her class, acting freely and violating heaven’s shabby rules, being punished by the gods for saving an innocent person who was hit and blinded, these things gradually accumulating, it’s not surprising that she was expelled from heaven.” A delighted smile appeared on Luo Feng’s face.

“If her sister hadn’t lost to you, how could she have been expelled?” A hint of gloom appeared on Raphi’s face.

“Tsk, angel wings are really beautiful.” Luo Feng’s tone became a bit more cheerful. “So, have her new wings grown out?”

“Thanks to you, Gabriel exhausted her divine power to restore them for her.”

Exhausting her divine power was the last straw that broke the camel’s back, causing an angel to be expelled from heaven.

Some irregularities in the human realm weren’t a big deal, but for such things to happen in the heavenly realm…

Sometimes, the laws of heaven were indeed hateful.

“Congratulations, when is the next military competition? In two hundred years, right? My home still lacks quite a few such decorations.” Luo Feng said.

“Hmph.” Raphi turned her head away.

Next time, I must find a way to screw you over. But when she thought of the previous military competition, where Luo Feng hunted angels on the battlefield like a madman, she felt fear from the bottom of her heart.

What was terrifying about devils wasn’t their power, but their minds. If he were a mindless demon with only strength, he would just be experience points.

When devils fought, they usually tried their best to set traps, but Luo Feng was like a combination of demons and devils. He was crazy when he needed to be and rational when he needed to be.

Now that he had taken a civil service direction, quite a few higher-ups in heaven breathed a sigh of relief.

‘I am your savior. As long as you want, I can restore your legs, but with a small price. I believe in equivalent exchange here.’

Luo Feng’s hands didn’t stop as he continued to deceive that person.

For him, that military competition was just an episode in his devil career.

‘What price? As long as my legs can be restored, I am willing to accept any price!’

Seeing his words, Luo Feng showed a delighted smile.

“The most ridiculous answer.” Raphi commented on the human on the other side. “Facing a devil, he actually said he’s willing to accept any price.”

“It’s just information asymmetry.” Luo Feng said, “You’re not going to stop me?”

As he spoke, he opened a contract in a folder and pressed remote send.

“Stop you in your store? Or fly over to stop him?” Raphi laughed. “If I did that, you would definitely use it as an excuse to fight me, right?”

“You’re scared? You’re an angel, you know.” Luo Feng’s gaze finally fell on her. “You are justice, and justice will surely triumph over evil.”

“Yes, scared.” Raphi nodded seriously. “You’re just bullying me. If you have the guts, go fight the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.”

“When there’s a chance.” Luo Feng didn’t care about her provocation at all.

    Ding!

With a crisp sound, a contract appeared on the computer. The other party had pressed his handprint, which wasn’t an ordinary handprint but a soul imprint.

“What are you going to do? Directly take over his remaining lifespan and his soul?” Raphi’s heart tightened.

What were the higher-ups thinking, letting a devil of this level appear in reality?

“No, I’m not that tasteless.” Luo Feng said, “I’ll restore his legs and take away his sight and taste. He can go anywhere in the world, but he will never be able to see the scenery he wants to see or taste the delicacies of various places. Food and scenery are his greatest hobbies.”

“…” Raphi clenched her fists. “You might as well kill him directly.”

“To gain something, you must learn to lose something.” Luo Feng sneered. “There’s no free lunch in this world! You think he’s pitiful? Then you go save him, at the risk of being confined or expelled from heaven.”

“Phew…” Raphi let out a long breath.

She didn’t dare, and it was impossible for her to do so.

Even before she became an official angel, she hadn’t done such a high-level violation for a friend. In contrast, that fallen angel did it without a second thought.

“When devils do things, they pursue a pleasant mood and an unequal transaction.” Luo Feng’s gaze finally settled on Raphi. “Don’t treat devils as good people.”

“There’s a special case.” Raphi said decisively.

“That’s why she went to heaven. Hell isn’t suitable for her. It doesn’t have an environment for her to survive. Even I can’t stand that hateful holy light.” Luo Feng looked at the screen again. “Tell me your intention. You’re not here to reminisce, are you?”

At this point, it was Raphi’s turn to be delighted.

“With the reform of the hell system, all devils have to work. Lord Belphegor directly chose to retire due to being too lazy and randomly selected a devil as his agent…”

“I, the devil who was randomly selected, have nine pairs of angel wings hanging in my home.” Luo Feng said calmly. “In Lord Belphegor’s interview, he would definitely choose the first interviewee to be his agent because he’s too lazy to choose. What do you think I relied on to be first? The kindness of other devils?”

Raphi rummaged around and took out a folder from her cleavage. She opened it on her own, took out the papers inside, and handed them to Luo Feng. “So, the fallen angel you admire wants to compete for the position of this Lord.”

Luo Feng raised his eyebrows. “A newly fallen angel wants to compete for the position of a Lord?”

“Times have changed.” Raphi sighed. “In the past, hell and heaven would never interact. They would start a war as soon as they met. But now it’s different. Everyone minds their own business and develops peacefully. After all, a war between heaven and hell benefits no one.”

“This is the position of a Lord.” Luo Feng sneered. “Gabriel’s kind heart hasn’t disappeared, and she still wants to be a devil?”

He was referring to the name of that fallen angel.

“This is a compromise from hell.” Raphi said, “Don’t forget, your Vignette(2)* from hell became an archangel. I’m not here to negotiate. I’m here to notify. Laziness among the Seven Lords is symbolic. It seems that there’s no need to do too many things a devil should do. As long as I help her, Gabriel is fully capable of competing.”

Luo Feng showed a meaningful smile. “Whatever, I don’t care about competition. When you fall and become one of us, I’ll press you under me and make you my exclusive succubus. What grudge do you have against them to send you to notify me? Believe it or not, I’ll pluck your bird feathers clean. The most heaven can do is strongly condemn it.”

“It’s not like I decided this.” Raphi showed a pitiful expression.

“You want to reason with a devil?” Luo Feng sneered and grabbed Raphi’s shoulder, his gaze sweeping over her buttocks.

    Chapter 10: The Strategy

Bai Ruoxi sat in the side hall, the tea on the table long gone cold.

Her brows were furrowed, her lips pressed together in a worried frown. It was understandable. Mu Zhi’an had asked for a few days to consider their proposal, and two days had already passed. The longer they waited, the more the Bai family suffered. Under pressure from her mother, she had reluctantly returned to the Mu Manor.

A servant entered the hall and bowed respectfully. “Miss Bai.”

Bai Ruoxi looked up, her eyes filled with disappointment when she saw that Mu Zhi’an wasn’t with him. “Is Young Master Mu unavailable?” she asked softly.

“Young Master Mu has gone to the pleasure quarters,” the servant replied. “He asked you to wait for him at the teahouse across the street.”

“The pleasure quarters?” Bai Ruoxi repeated the words, her brow furrowing further.

    She couldn’t understand his actions.

Who in their right mind would openly announce their visit to the pleasure quarters to a woman they were trying to court?

Unless… he wasn’t interested in her romantically at all.

    But that was impossible.

There had to be another explanation.

Bai Ruoxi was intelligent, and she knew she was beautiful.

It wasn’t vanity, simply a statement of fact.

There truly was no woman in Tianxuan City more beautiful than her.

Those with similar features didn’t possess her assets. And those with similar assets lacked her beauty.

While Mu Zhi’an’s current behavior suggested a lack of interest, she refused to believe he was completely indifferent to her.

He must have a reason for going to the pleasure quarters. But what could it be?

She quickly collected herself, thanked the servant politely, and left the manor, taking the umbrella she’d borrowed last night.

    The Pleasure Quarters.

Mu Zhi’an lounged on a plush couch, a beautiful courtesan named Yang Yanyan massaging his shoulders. “You haven’t visited in a while, Young Master Mu,” she said softly. “Have you found a new interest?”

Most people in Tianxuan City avoided Mu Zhi’an like the plague. But here, in the pleasure quarters, he was a welcome guest.

For one, he was quite handsome, and his company was generally pleasant. For another, he was a generous tipper.

There weren’t many wealthy young men in Tianxuan City who were willing to spend lavishly, and Mu Zhi’an was one of them.

Mu Zhi’an smiled, patting her delicate hand. “I’ve been busy with family matters lately. Haven’t had much time for leisure.”

Yang Yanyan’s eyes flickered. She smiled seductively. “Of course, Young Master Mu. You must be exhausted.”

She didn’t believe for a second that this wastrel was actually handling family affairs, but she wasn’t about to contradict him.

Mu Zhi’an saw through her disbelief but chose not to address it.

He enjoyed her massage, sipped his tea, and chatted idly with her.

Then, as if casually, he asked, “Has Gongsun Zan been here lately?”

Yang Yanyan paused, her fingers still kneading his shoulders. “I saw him here last night,” she replied after a moment of thought. “But I wasn’t the one who entertained him.”

The courtesans of the pleasure quarters generally sold their companionship, not their bodies. Yang Yanyan was no exception. Unless she took a particular liking to a client, or the offer was too tempting to resist, she usually left after her performance.

“Has he been here today?” Mu Zhi’an asked.

Yang Yanyan shook her head. “I’m not sure. Why do you ask, Young Master Mu?”

    She looked at him curiously.

While Gongsun Zan came from a powerful family, unlike Mu Zhi’an, he wasn’t particularly well-liked, even among the courtesans.

For one, he had a reputation for cruelty. And for another, he wasn’t very attractive.

Mu Zhi’an gave her backside a playful pat. “Why are you so curious?”

She giggled, wriggling away from his touch. “You’re terrible!”

She didn’t actually try to stop him, though.

After a moment of hesitation, she leaned in close, lowering her voice.

“Speaking of which, I overheard something interesting yesterday from one of the girls who entertained Young Master Gongsun.”

Mu Zhi’an raised an eyebrow. “Oh? What was it?”

She glanced around as if afraid of being overheard.

“I hear Gongsun Zan is planning to raid someone’s home today,” she whispered.

    Mu Zhi’an’s mind raced.

Raids weren’t uncommon in Tianxuan City. The Gongsun, Mu, and Bai families all had close ties to the imperial court. They were often tasked with handling such matters.

While the official line was that all confiscated assets were to be turned over to the court, the three families always managed to skim a little off the top. It was an unspoken agreement.

    “Whose home?” Mu Zhi’an asked.

Yang Yanyan shook her head. “I don’t know. Gongsun Zan didn’t say.”

    Mu Zhi’an hummed thoughtfully.

Since Gongsun Zan was busy with a raid today, he’d have to wait to approach him. He set down his teacup and stood up.

“Leaving already, Young Master Mu?” Yang Yanyan asked, sounding surprised.

Mu Zhi’an smiled. “I have some matters to attend to. I’ll be back another time.”

Despite her attempts to persuade him to stay, he politely declined.

He left the pleasure quarters and was about to head to the teahouse across the street when he saw a man walking towards him.

The man was of average appearance, in his early thirties, with thin lips and shifty eyes that gave him a sinister air. He exuded an aura of arrogance and recklessness. His face alone was enough to make people want to avoid him.

This was Gongsun Zan, the third young master of the Gongsun family.

If Mu Zhi’an’s “bad boy” persona was more of the charming rogue type, Gongsun Zan was the epitome of a ruthless bully. He didn’t care about appearances. With the Gongsun family’s power, he could get away with anything. There was no need to pretend.

Just as I thought, he showed up. Mu Zhi’an smiled. “Young Master Gongsun. Just arrived?”

Gongsun Zan paused, surprised that Mu Zhi’an would greet him so casually.

Despite their shared reputation, they’d never really interacted before.

He nodded curtly. “Haven’t seen you around lately, Young Master Mu. Thought you’d finally turned over a new leaf. Or perhaps you were grounded?”

His words sounded like a greeting, but there was a mocking undertone to them.

It was understandable. Gongsun Zan looked down on Mu Zhi’an, or perhaps he was simply jealous of him.

They were both notorious playboys, but Mu Zhi’an was treated far better in the pleasure quarters. There had been times when courtesans had refused Gongsun Zan’s advances.

But Mu Zhi’an had never been rejected.

It was all thanks to his handsome face, which had a certain appeal to women.

Before Mu Zhi’an could respond, Gongsun Zan bowed slightly. “I have some matters to attend to. Please excuse me, Young Master Mu.”

He brushed past Mu Zhi’an and entered the pleasure quarters, throwing a dismissive glance at the other man’s handsome face.

So what if he was from the Mu family? He was still a good-for-nothing, just like him, seeking validation from the women of the pleasure quarters.

He even had the audacity to pursue Bai Ruoxi?

Did he honestly think that proud woman would even look his way?

“Enjoy yourself, Young Master Gongsun,” Mu Zhi’an replied, returning the bow. He noticed the other man’s sneer but simply smiled, unfazed.

    Why not indulge him?

Within the Gongsun family, Gongsun Zan held the lowest position. Even his younger brothers bossed him around.

This was because, at the age of thirty-two, he was still stuck at Qi Condensation, showing no signs of progress or ambition.

However, this made him an easy target for extracting information.

He just needed to spend a bit more time with him. People like Gongsun Zan, with their fragile egos, were easy to manipulate.

Mu Zhi’an watched as Gongsun Zan disappeared into the pleasure quarters. He smiled to himself, then turned and entered the teahouse across the street.

Bai Ruoxi was already waiting for him in a private room. Today, she wore a low-cut white dress, revealing a hint of cleavage, which added to her allure. Her long, slender legs were crossed elegantly, and her flawless face was a vision of beauty.

Her eyes lit up when she saw him. “Young Master Mu, please sit.”

She gestured to the seat across from her.

Mu Zhi’an smiled and sat down beside her instead.

Bai Ruoxi glanced at him but didn’t object.

She poured him a cup of tea, then asked softly, “You went to the pleasure quarters. I assume you had important business there?”

“You’re as perceptive as ever, Miss Bai,” Mu Zhi’an replied with a smile. “I went to see Gongsun Zan.”

“The third young master of the Gongsun family?” Bai Ruoxi frowned.

The Gongsun family was one of the main culprits behind the Bai family’s current predicament. It was only natural for her to react negatively to their name.

Mu Zhi’an took a sip of his tea. “I received a report from my spy today,” he continued. “It seems Gongsun Zan and Ye Yu have been in close contact.”

“Ye Yu? Why would he be with Gongsun Zan?” Bai Ruoxi sounded incredulous.

The Ye and Bai families had a long-standing connection. Even if they weren’t willing to help the Bai family, they shouldn’t be collaborating with the Gongsun family.

Mu Zhi’an chuckled. “They must have gotten wind of our arrangement and decided to use Ye Yu to disrupt things.”

“They probably leaked the information about your visit to the Mu Manor to Ye Yu.”

Bai Ruoxi’s cheeks flushed at the word “arrangement.” She stole a glance at Mu Zhi’an. “I apologize for Ye Yu’s behavior that night,” she murmured.

Since that night, she’d been worried that Mu Zhi’an, angered by Ye Yu’s actions, would refuse to help the Bai family.

He’d sent her home with an umbrella and promised to consider her request, but she couldn’t be sure of his true intentions.

Mu Zhi’an reached out and took her hand, his touch gentle. “Why are you apologizing for Ye Yu’s actions, Miss Bai?” he asked with a smile. “What does he have to do with you?”

Bai Ruoxi froze, her eyes meeting his. They were filled with a mix of emotions.

Sometimes, she couldn’t tell if she’d submitted to him out of desperation… or something else.

The teahouse was located directly across from the pleasure quarters. It was a popular spot for officials and wealthy merchants to relax after a night of entertainment.

Mu Zhi’an’s private room was secluded, away from the main traffic.

He glanced at the curtain that separated them from the rest of the teahouse. He thought he saw a figure retreating hastily behind it.

    Someone was eavesdropping?

Was it someone from the Gongsun family or the Morning Glory Chamber of Commerce?

No, They wouldn’t dare. The consequences of being caught spying on the Mu family were severe.

Could it be that mysterious black-robed man who wanted Ye Yu?

Mu Zhi’an considered this for a moment. He kept hold of Bai Ruoxi’s hand, then leaned in close, his lips brushing against her ear. He whispered something to her, his voice low and husky.

Bai Ruoxi’s eyes widened slightly. A blush crept up her cheeks. After a moment of silence, she replied softly, “You’re right, Young Master Mu. His actions have nothing to do with me.”

  • It turns out, they are the protagonists chapter 9

    Chapter 9: Ye Yu’s Secret

    Mu Manor.

In a spacious and well-lit study, Mu Zhi’an leaned back in his chair, engrossed in a thin booklet.

In the world of cultivation, theoretical knowledge was just as important as practical training.

The Mu family, with its abundant resources, possessed detailed records on every aspect of cultivation, from Qi Condensation and Foundation Establishment to Core Formation and Nascent Soul. Mu Zhi’an was currently at the third level of Foundation Establishment, still a long way from Core Formation. However, studying the insights of his predecessors would undoubtedly prove beneficial in the future.

After skimming through the booklet, Mu Zhi’an sighed. “My past self was a bit of an idiot,” he mused, “but at least he wasn’t stupid enough to indulge in pleasures before reaching Foundation Establishment.”

The formal path of cultivation began with Qi Condensation.

The ideal age for Qi Condensation was between ten and fifteen, a time when children’s fascination with the opposite sex was relatively subdued. They weren’t yet preoccupied with certain matters, making it the perfect age to focus on cultivation.

One of the most important requirements for Qi Condensation was to maintain one’s purity. This applied to both men and women.

Even the old Mu Zhi’an, obsessed with pleasure as he was, had waited until reaching Foundation Establishment before indulging in such pursuits.

Losing one’s purity before forming a Dantian made it incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to progress in cultivation.

As Mu Zhi’an continued reading, a flash of iridescent light caught his eye near the window.

“Another paper crane?” he murmured, his gaze sharpening.

He reached out a finger, and the crane, trailing a shimmering rainbow, flew towards him and landed gently on his fingertip.

“The spiritual energy on this crane is the same as yesterday’s.” Mu Zhi’an’s eyes widened slightly in surprise. “The speed of this reply suggests the sender the sender be in Tianxuan City?”

Paper cranes were a common method of communication among cultivators. They could be sent to specific recipients or allowed to fly aimlessly, like messages in a bottle.

The speed of delivery depended on the distance.

For the reply to arrive so quickly, the sender had to be either in Tianxuan City… or a high-level cultivator capable of manipulating space.

However, the latter was highly unlikely.

Why would such a powerful being have the worries of a lovesick teenager?

As he pondered this, Mu Zhi’an unfolded the crane and read the message.

“The handwriting… it’s definitely the same person,” he thought to himself.

The message contained a request for advice on matters of the heart.

The sender was unsure how to prepare for their first journey away from their family. Should they leave a letter? Should they inform their elders?

Driven by a desire to help, Mu Zhi’an considered her questions carefully, then picked up his brush and ink and penned a thoughtful reply.

He folded the paper back into the shape of a crane and tossed it out the window.

The crane flapped its paper wings and soared into the sky.

“I hope my advice helps that ‘caged bird’ young lady,” Mu Zhi’an murmured, watching as the crane disappeared from view.

After spending some more time reading in his study, Mu Zhi’an left and headed to the main hall, where he summoned a servant. “Dispatch a spy to keep an eye on Ye Yu of the Ye family,” he instructed. “Report back to me immediately if you notice anything unusual.”

Ye Yu’s behavior yesterday had been far too composed for someone who had supposedly lost his talent and fallen into despair.

    It warranted further investigation.

    Ye Yu?

The servant was clearly confused. Why would the young master want to waste resources spying on a cripple?

However, he didn’t question the order. He simply bowed and replied, “Yes, Young Master,” before leaving the hall.

Knowing too much was rarely a good thing, especially for servants.

Now… to wait for the report.

Mu Zhi’an poured himself a cup of tea and relaxed in the hall for a while. Then, he headed to the training grounds for his daily session with Wei Mengrou.

She was already waiting for him, her sword strapped to her back. She wore a dark blue top and a patterned skirt, her ample bosom straining against the fabric, lending her a dignified beauty.

Curvaceous figure, long legs. No wonder my past self couldn’t resist her. Mu Zhi’an couldn’t help but steal a few glances at her, admiring her physique.

Unfortunately, she was a Core Formation Realm cultivator. If she wasn’t willing, no one could force her to do anything.

Wei Mengrou glanced at him, a hint of surprise in her eyes. “I didn’t expect you to last two days,” she remarked.

The old Mu Zhi’an would have been whining and complaining by now, begging to skip training. He’d probably be sneaking off to the pleasure quarters to enjoy the company of courtesans and drown himself in wine.

Yet, here he was, bright and early, ready to train.

Had the sun risen in the west?

Mu Zhi’an simply smiled in response. “I intend to keep this up.”

Wei Mengrou raised an eyebrow. “Let’s hope so.”

She paused, then asked, “Did you have someone investigate Ye Yu?”

Mu Zhi’an nodded. “He’s acting strangely. It’s piqued my curiosity.”

How did Ye Yu know that Bai Ruoxi was at the Mu Manor last night?

Someone must have leaked the information.

And their motives were clear. They wanted to stir up Ye Yu’s hatred for the Mu family and prevent them from interfering with the Bai family’s downfall.

They were worried that Bai Ruoxi’s offer would sway the Mu family into protecting the Bai family, so they used Ye Yu as a pawn.

The answer was obvious. The leak had to come from either the Gongsun family, the Morning Glory Chamber of Commerce, or both.

“The spiritual energy I sensed from Ye Yu last night was quite strong,” Wei Mengrou said. “He’s at least at the seventh level of Qi Condensation.”

Mu Zhi’an’s eyes widened. “I thought he couldn’t cultivate anymore. He couldn’t even absorb spiritual energy, and his Dantian was leaking. He was a cripple. Does this mean he’s solved the problem?”

    Wei Mengrou nodded.

“I saw him on the street two months ago. He wasn’t even at Qi Condensation then.” She paused. “To go from a cripple to the seventh level of Qi Condensation in less than two months. That Ye Yu truly is a genius.”

    Mu Zhi’an nodded slowly.

Genius was an understatement. This was monstrous.

Normally, the most challenging aspect of Qi Condensation was forming a Dantian, a process that usually took two to three years.

For Ye Yu to regain his cultivation and reach the seventh level in just two months.

    It was terrifying.

However, this couldn’t be solely attributed to his own talent.

There had to be a secret, something hidden, something that had drawn the attention of that mysterious black-robed man. Why else would he insist on taking Ye Yu after the deed was done?

Mu Zhi’an refused to believe that a Core Formation expert would travel all the way to Tianxuan City without a motive.

…Unless that black-robed man was interested in men and had taken a liking to Ye Yu?

Mu Zhi’an shook his head, pushing the absurd thought aside. He raised his sword, pointing it at Wei Mengrou. “Shall we begin, Mengrou?”

“Very well,” she replied, her tone still cool and distant.

However, as she raised her own sword to meet his, her gaze softened ever so slightly.

For the next two days, Mu Zhi’an received replies from the same paper crane every day.

The “caged bird” girl, initially hesitant, had gradually warmed up to his encouragement. In today’s letter, she declared her intention to finally leave her family and seek her own freedom.

Mu Zhi’an was happy for her. He wrote back, offering words of encouragement and reminding her to bring money.

Yes… He suspected she was a sheltered soul, accustomed to having servants cater to her every need. She probably wouldn’t even think to bring money or provisions for her journey.

He folded the message into a crane and tossed it out the window.

That afternoon, as Mu Zhi’an sat in his study reading, a soft knock sounded on the door.

    “Young Master, I’ve returned.”

It was the spy he’d sent to monitor Ye Yu.

Back so soon? There must be something.

Mu Zhi’an’s voice was serious. “Enter.”

The man, his face veiled in black cloth, entered the study and bowed respectfully. “As you predicted, Young Master, there’s something strange about that Ye Yu.”

He glanced at Mu Zhi’an, who seemed calm and composed. “This morning, the Ye family held a clan competition. Ye Yu defeated several talented members of his clan. Based on my observations, his strength is at least at the seventh level of Qi Condensation.”

Mengrou was right, as expected of a Core Formation expert. Mu Zhi’an nodded inwardly. “Anything else?”

“Ye Yu has been spending a lot of time with the third young master of the Gongsun family,” the spy reported.

“Why would Ye Yu associate with Gongsun Zan?”

Mu Zhi’an frowned, surprised by this news.

The Gongsun family patriarch had six children. The third son, Gongsun Zan, was as notorious in Tianxuan City as Mu Zhi’an himself.

However, if they were to compare their reputations, Mu Zhi’an was still a few steps above Gongsun Zan.

Gongsun Zan pursued any woman who caught his fancy, regardless of whether they were married or not. Mu Zhi’an, on the other hand, at least drew the line at respectable women.

He usually confined his attentions to courtesans, and while he occasionally pursued other women, he generally tried to win their hearts through courtship.

In any era, money made courtship easier. And Mu Zhi’an, with his good looks and charm, had no trouble attracting female attention.

In short, most people in Tianxuan City avoided Gongsun Zan like the plague.

Logically, Ye Yu should be aware of Gongsun Zan’s reputation and steer clear of him. So why was he associating with him.?

Mu Zhi’an pondered this for a moment. He dismissed the spy, then left his study and headed towards the courtyard entrance.

“Are you going out, Young Master?”

Elder Ren, who was tending to the flowers in the courtyard, looked up as Mu Zhi’an approached.

“Yes. I’m going to the pleasure quarters,” Mu Zhi’an replied.

    Elder Ren: “?”

Mu Zhi’an’s visits to the pleasure quarters were usually clandestine affairs. If caught, he’d try to laugh it off or make excuses. Why was he being so upfront today?

Had he finally decided to drop the act?

“I’m going there to meet someone,” Mu Zhi’an added.

Gongsun Zan was a regular at the pleasure quarters. He wanted to see if he could glean any information from him.

Elder Ren simply hummed in response. “Just remember to be discreet, Young Master.”

He clearly didn’t believe Mu Zhi’an’s explanation.

Meeting someone at the pleasure quarters? Who could that be?

    A courtesan?

Mu Zhi’an didn’t bother explaining further. He smiled and was about to leave the courtyard when a servant hurried towards him.

“Young Master, Miss Bai Ruoxi requests an audience in the side hall,” the servant said, his eyes filled with a mixture of curiosity and envy.

He was curious why the most beautiful woman in Tianxuan City had been frequenting the Mu Manor lately. He was envious because the young master got to spend time with her… Who knew what might be going on between them?

If the people of Tianxuan City knew that Mu Zhi’an had won her over, they’d probably lose sleep over it.

    “Bai Ruoxi is here?”

Mu Zhi’an paused, then said, “Tell her to wait for me at the teahouse across from the pleasure quarters.”

The servant stared at him, dumbfounded. “Young Master, If Miss Bai asks where you’ve gone, what should I tell her?”

“Tell her the truth,” Mu Zhi’an replied with a smile.

“Or just tell her I’m at the pleasure quarters.”
