Chapter 4: A Classic Case of Seduction

    [Name: Carol]

    [Age: 16]

    [Rank: 0]

    [Strength: 5]

    [Constitution: 5]

    [Spirit: 50]

    [Magic Power: 99]

    [Agility: 9]

    [Talents: Magic Master, True Perception]

[Magic Master: Magic is her plaything. Even without training, her abilities far surpass those of some who have spent years honing their craft.]

[True Perception: She can discern truth from falsehood, good from evil. Treat her kindly.]

“Well, that’s a bit pointed,” Kailun thought, stifling a chuckle.

Even he, knowing what he did about her future, was stunned by her stats and Talents. He hadn’t misjudged her power, exactly, but he had underestimated the sheer scope of her potential.

In the future, this girl, Carol, would become a legend. Driven to despair by humanity’s cruelty, she would flee human civilization and find refuge among the denizens of the abyss. There, her power would grow exponentially, until she became a nightmare for the entire human world.

The White-Haired Witch of Calamity. The Demon God of the End. The Harbinger of Despair. These were just a few of the titles bestowed upon her.

What little Kailun knew about her came mostly from legends and whispered rumors. They painted a picture of a beautiful, white-haired girl whose every gesture brought death and destruction.

If the timeline was correct, Carol had recently lost her mother and was currently lost in a haze of grief and despair.

It explained why she had walked into the path of his carriage. Either she had a death wish, or she was so consumed by grief that she hadn’t been paying attention.

Ignoring the coachman’s startled expression, Kailun threw open the carriage door and jumped out. After a quick examination, he determined that her injuries, thankfully, were minor. Scooping her up in his arms, he carried her back into the carriage.

“Don’t ask questions you don’t want the answers to. Just take us home.”

With those words, he slammed the door shut and drew the curtains.

He gently laid Carol down on the plush seat. She looked so small and frail, like a wounded bird.

At sixteen, she was barely five foot two. Her body was thin and delicate, her white hair dry and brittle from lack of proper nourishment. Her clothes, a simple, dirt-stained cloak that looked like it was made of burlap, did little to protect her from the elements.

“Fortunately, her injuries aren’t serious. A second-order healing spell should do the trick.”

Kailun allocated his free Attribute Points to Spirit and Magic Power, increasing his Spirit to 30 and Magic Power to 219. At this level, he could cast most second-order spells.

He felt a surge of power course through his body. From this moment on, magical bottlenecks were a thing of the past.

With his attributes now quantifiable, he could theoretically cast any spell, regardless of his official rank, as long as he had sufficient Spirit and Magic Power.

“If I remember correctly, the inscription for a second-order healing spell is…” He snapped his fingers.

    “Click!”

A pale blue magic circle appeared in his palm, radiating a gentle warmth.

Holding his hand over Carol’s wounds, he channeled his magic, repairing the damage. A minute later, he dispelled the spell.

Though her injuries were healed, Carol didn’t wake up immediately. Kailun decided to let her rest.

Looking down at her pale face, he thought about his own life. They were both victims of circumstance. One abandoned by humanity, the other framed and murdered by those he had trusted.

Fate had brought them together, two villains in the making. It was almost comical.

And if he was being honest, this world was probably beyond saving.

He had no desire to play the hero. All Kailun cared about was his own pleasure and amusement.

Besides, hadn’t he, in a way, done humanity a favor by taking their future destroyer under his wing? The least they could do was thank him.

“We’ve arrived, Master Kailun,” Roden announced softly from outside the carriage.

“Thank you.” As he responded, he noticed that Carol had awoken. She was watching him, her expression wary.

“I apologize for the accident,” he said, offering her a warm, genuine smile. “I’ve healed your injuries. You should be feeling much better now.”

“Thank you,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “It was my fault. I wasn’t paying attention…”

She seemed intimidated by him, her gaze darting nervously around the carriage. “Can you let me out now? I’ll find a way to repay you for the treatment.”

Her first thought upon waking was how to repay him for healing her injuries. Clearly, she believed that anything magic-related came with a hefty price tag.

“Don’t be silly. It was our fault, not yours.” Kailun reached out and gently ruffled her hair.

She was so naive, so innocent. A far cry from the ruthless, jaded woman she was destined to become.

“Why?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She didn’t pull away from his touch.

She didn’t understand why he had helped her. Why he was being so kind. To her, people like her… they were considered expendable. Their lives held no value.

Except for her family, she had known nothing but scorn and fear. In the eyes of most, her red eyes were an ill omen, a mark of misfortune.

As if to prove their point, her loved ones had died, one after another. Just yesterday, her mother, the one person who had loved her unconditionally, had breathed her last.

She had been on her way to the river, ready to end her miserable existence.

“There’s no need for ‘why.’ Consider it a twist of fate,” he said gently. He gave her hair one last pat. “Come now, enough of these dreary thoughts. Let’s get you something to eat. Consider it my way of apologizing for the accident.”

In the end, she couldn’t refuse his offer. They sat together at a table laden with a feast fit for royalty. Carol stared at the food, overwhelmed.

Then, Kailun placed a chicken leg in her hand, and all bets were off. She ate with gusto, a rare smile gracing her face, her pale cheeks smeared with grease.

After the meal, Kailun had her bathe and provided her with a change of clothes. The maid outfit he had originally intended for Anna worked perfectly. Dressed in her new attire, a hint of Carol’s captivating beauty peeked through.

The black and white low-cut maid dress. The sheer black stockings. The tantalizing sliver of skin between the hem of her skirt and her stockings. The short, comfortable shorts she was allowed to wear only inside the manor. All these elements, combined, created a captivating image.

Her white hair flowed down her back, reaching her waist. Her crimson eyes, usually clouded with sadness, now sparkled with a hint of warmth. Though still thin and delicate, her figure was undeniably lovely.

With proper care and nutrition, she would blossom into a true beauty.

Throughout the entire process, Kailun, using his knowledge of her personality and her current emotional state to his advantage, gently guided her, steering her towards the path he had chosen. Carol, lost and alone, simply followed his lead.

Did he have any intention of letting her go?

Absolutely not. Meeting Carol was the greatest stroke of luck he had encountered since his rebirth.

As a villain, what was a little light manipulation between friends?

Chapter 3: The Girl Destined to Become the Final Boss

[You have chosen Option 3. The favored protagonist’s elder sister currently has a -70 Favorability Rating toward you.]

[Reward: You have gained 70% of her Attribute Points, totaling 210. (This reward is permanent and will increase as she grows stronger.)]

[Evaluation: You are a bully who lords over both men and women, unrestrained by morals or scruples. The greater the impact you have on the main characters, the greater the rewards you will receive.]

“210 points, not bad at all. As expected of a top student. She’s already much stronger than I am.” Kailun stroked his chin, examining his rewards with satisfaction.

    [Name: Kailun Kate]

    [Age: 17]

    [Rank: First Order (Apprentice Mage)]

    [Strength: 7]

    [Constitution: 7]

    [Spirit: 11]

    [Magic Power: 28]

    [Agility: 7]

    [Available Free Attribute Points: 210]

[Talents: Apprentice Villain, Reset Master, Mental Pollution]

[Apprentice Villain: Currently only increases your capacity for pleasure.]

[Reset Master: Allows you to reset and redistribute your Attribute Points at any time without limitations.]

[Mental Pollution: Your words and actions are more likely to corrupt others.]

“Mental Pollution… to corrupt?” Kailun muttered, his eyebrows shooting up in surprise.

The other Talents were fine, but this one seemed a bit strange.

Reset Master was easy enough to understand. It allowed him to change his attributes at will. Not a power to be underestimated, as its applications were potentially limitless.

Honestly, his previous Talents were pretty lackluster. Anna was only a year older than him, but already far stronger.

But if he could push her Favorability Rating down to -100, he’d gain all her power.

“Let’s see… who else is close to Paul? There’s that viscount’s daughter who’s his childhood friend… and that young aunt of his who runs a shop… hmmm, quite a few leeks ripe for the harvest.”

The thought of those connected to Paul made Kailun’s eyes gleam with predatory light. They represented a source of immense potential benefit. Simply killing them would be a waste.

He touched his neck, the phantom pain of decapitation still fresh in his memory. The despair, the utter hopelessness of that moment… he wouldn’t soon forget it.

If he remembered correctly, today was the catalyst for everything. This afternoon, he was supposed to have a private meeting with a female student who would then throw herself at him. Before he could react, the eldest princess would barge in with her guards, accusing him of assault, and fabricating evidence to support her claims.

He’d then be imprisoned. His mother, upon hearing the news, had rushed from their estate to plead for his release, only to be ambushed and murdered on the road. The entire entourage had been slaughtered, leaving no witnesses.

Simultaneously, his family’s businesses, the backbone of their power within the kingdom, had been systematically destroyed. Within a month, they were financially ruined.

Then came the relentless waves of attacks that ultimately led to the downfall of the once mighty Kate family.

Looking back, the eldest princess had played her hand masterfully. Each move had been carefully calculated, leading to her inevitable rise to power as the undisputed queen.

Perhaps she had seen the Kate family as a threat, an obstacle to her ambition.

But her victory had not come without a price. The Kates’ desperate counterattack had plunged the kingdom into chaos. Within months, they had lost a quarter of their territory.

If not for the timely intervention of the so-called “protagonist,” the kingdom might have been destroyed.

“That wicked woman… wanting to be queen.” Kailun scoffed. “Not if I have anything to say about it. The younger princess, though… she seems… suitable. Perhaps I should give her a little push in the right direction.”

He exited the library, strolling down the main avenue of the Royal Magic Academy, ignoring the stares and whispers that followed him. As the sole heir to the Duke, he was a figure of great importance. But his magical abilities were nothing to brag about. After more than a decade, he was still just an Apprentice Mage.

He had been mocked and ridiculed countless times.

The old him might have ignored them, but this new Kailun… he would make sure they all paid for their disrespect.

He wandered aimlessly around the academy grounds, not bothering with classes. When lunchtime arrived, he was the first one out the door.

“Master Kailun, you seem to be in a good mood today.” Roden, his loyal butler, was already waiting for him at the academy gates.

“Not bad,” Kailun replied, a flicker of wistful fondness in his eyes as he looked at the familiar, aging face. Roden had remained loyal until his dying breath, fighting to protect him. If not for his sacrifice, Kailun knew he wouldn’t have survived that day.

He stepped into the luxurious carriage that awaited him, calling out to Roden, who sat astride a magnificent steed.

“Oh, right. Prepare some clean maid outfits for me. Black stockings, short skirts, the works.”

“Of course, Master Kailun.” Roden didn’t ask questions. He simply nodded, committing the order to memory.

As the carriage rolled smoothly down the street, Kailun gazed out the window, memories of the Royal City, both pleasant and painful, flooding his mind.

“Master, those people at the corner up ahead. I believe they are your friends. Shall I invite them to the manor for a meal?” Roden’s voice pulled Kailun from his thoughts.

He followed his gaze and spotted Anna and Paul standing on the street corner. They seemed to be arguing, the air thick with tension.

Kailun sneered. “Friends? They’re nothing but heartless wolves in sheep’s clothing. Let’s take a different route.”

He wasn’t ready to see Paul yet. Not while he could still taste the urge to drive a knife through his heart.

No, a clean death was too merciful. He’d rather see the look on Paul’s face when he, Kailun, toyed with his beloved elder sister, seduced his childhood friend, and humiliated his precious aunt.

He would take everything from Paul, piece by piece, just as Paul had done to him.

These were prime leeks, and he would savor every moment of their slow and painful demise.

Roden filed away the information, contemplating how he should conduct himself in the future should he encounter these so-called “friends.”

The carriage veered off the main road, moving deeper into the city and then turning onto a narrow, less-traveled street. Eventually, they arrived at the edge of the Royal City’s slums.

    “Screech!”

The carriage lurched to a stop, the sound of metal grinding against metal echoing in the air.

Kailun leaned forward to see what had happened. A young woman, cloaked in a tattered garment, lay sprawled on the ground. Her white hair spilled out from beneath her hood, like spun moonlight.

“My apologies, Master. The girl ran out into the street. ” The driver’s voice was apologetic, but Kailun could tell he didn’t care whether the girl was hurt.

But Kailun’s gaze was fixed on the fallen girl. His voice was barely a whisper, filled with disbelief and a touch of awe.

    “This can’t be… My luck wouldn’t be this good…”

    Chapter 2: The Eternal Brand

“No way! I would rather be expelled, imprisoned, even beaten to death, than sign this!” Anna retreated two steps. She would die before signing a Slave Contract. Her life would be utterly ruined if she did.

A Slave Contract meant surrendering one’s body, mind, and soul to a master. Once signed, everything she was belonged to someone else.

Anna’s refusal was expected. Kailun hadn’t actually anticipated her obedience.

But it didn’t matter. If a lifetime was too much to stomach, how about a year?

“Don’t be so quick to refuse. We can discuss the terms. How about changing the contract duration to one year? I’ll cover all your living and school expenses during this period. And if you perform well, you’ll even get a salary. Ten gold coins a month, to start.”

Kailun brushed her hair aside, his voice a low and tempting purr. “My family’s estate is quite large, and we possess many magic scrolls. The kind of Forbidden Scroll you just tried to steal? I have piles of them in my warehouse. All yours to peruse, if you agree.”

In this world, knowledge was the most valuable commodity. Class was the hardest barrier to break. And the human heart, the most difficult to decipher.

Stealing knowledge meant ten years in prison, at the very least. At worst, a public execution.

Though Kailun had shortened the contract from a lifetime to a year, he was utterly confident that he could completely break her within that time.

Did she think she could just walk away after reaping the benefits?

    Absolutely not.

Feeling his male presence so close, Anna turned her head away, her heart pounding.

Compared to being expelled and thrown in prison, Kailun’s proposal wasn’t entirely unacceptable.

But the thought of becoming his plaything… it chipped away at her dignity, filling her with shame.

“Anna, you wouldn’t want everyone to know you’ve been stealing valuable academy property, would you?”

As she hesitated, Kailun’s words shattered her last defenses.

    “…”

“I hate you!” she spat out, her voice choked with despair.

With those words, her agreement was made.

She told herself that she only needed to endure this one year. Then she’d still have a future. And when she finally escaped his clutches, she would make him pay for this humiliation. She would destroy him and everything he held dear.

Her eyes burned with venomous hatred as she stared at him. In that moment, Kailun was the most despicable, evil noble in existence.

“Yes, that’s the look. It’s both familiar and strange to see such hatred directed at me.”

As Kailun modified the terms of the contract, he couldn’t help but admire Anna’s enraged beauty. She truly lived up to her reputation as one of the Five Great Beauties of King’s City(Royal City). Her looks alone qualified her to be his plaything.

He wondered what kind of expression her brother would make when he discovered his dear sister had become Kailun’s personal toy…

A thrill of anticipation shot through him, leaving him giddy with delight. He handed the amended contract to Anna.

“Take another look. Make sure everything is in order. If you have no objections, we can proceed with the signing.”

Hidden within a corner of the contract, written in ancient, minuscule script, was an additional clause that Anna would never be able to see without extraordinary means.

    Anna remained silent.

She carefully scrutinized every word, reading the document over and over again. As promised, it stated that she would serve as his slave for only one year. During this time, he would cover all her expenses and promised not to give her away to anyone else. In terms of treatment, it was practically unheard of in the world of slavery.

But good treatment or not, she was still a slave!

“Fine… I agree…” she whispered, her eyes welling up. She looked like a pitiful, helpless puppy.

“Now, let me see…” Kailun mused, tapping a finger against his chin thoughtfully. “Where should we place this all-important slave mark?”

The slave mark was a symbol of ownership branded onto the slave’s body. It not only signified ownership, but also allowed the master to control the slave, like a receiver for commands.

Usually, it was placed somewhere visible, like the arm or forehead.

But such a conspicuous location would undoubtedly upset Anna. Being the considerate soul he was, Kailun decided to choose a more discreet area.

Perhaps the inside of her thigh… or maybe her lower abdomen…

Feeling his gaze roaming over her body, Anna closed her eyes tightly, her body trembling. From this moment on, she was his.

This alluring young woman was now a lamb awaiting slaughter. For one year, at least.

“You know,” Kailun purred, “you look quite lovely when you’re not trying to bite my head off. Why are you always so aggressive?”

He lifted her up and sat her down on the table. Then, with unhurried movements, he began to unbutton her school uniform, revealing her smooth, pale stomach, her cute navel, and the enticing lines of her toned abs.

The future Anna may have had a heart of darkness, but for now, she was as pure and innocent as a dove.

“Bastard! Pervert! Lecher!” Anna hissed, her voice trembling with unshed tears.

Her distress only made him want to bully her more.

Kailun bit his finger, drawing blood, and slowly traced lines across her lower abdomen with his bloodstained fingertip.

Gradually, a shape began to form. A beautiful, heart-shaped design, framed by delicate, intertwining flowers, appeared on her skin. It was alluring and strangely seductive.

“Now, I just need to infuse it with my magic power. Try not to resist, okay?”

He then placed his bleeding finger into her mouth, using the opportunity to clean the wound while channeling his magic. His current magical ability wasn’t enough to cast a basic healing spell, so he could only wait for the cut to heal naturally.

“I h-hate you!” Anna mumbled around his finger, her words muffled.

As she spoke, a surge of pure magic flowed from his finger into her, sending a jolt through her body that made her speechless.

As his magic coursed through her, the red markings on her abdomen transformed, turning from crimson to silver. Then, as if reflecting her turbulent emotions, the silver gradually shifted to a soft, delicate pink.

With the contract sealed, the scroll lying on the table burst into flames, turning to ash in an instant.

“Not bad,” Kailun said with a satisfied smirk, withdrawing his saliva-coated finger and casually wiping it on her blouse. “Come to my manor after school today. I have some… tasks for you.”

He winked at the dazed Anna, enjoying the mixture of fear and loathing in her eyes, and strolled out of the library, whistling a cheerful tune.

Anna stared down at the pink mark on her stomach, tears finally spilling down her cheeks.

She couldn’t understand why this devil had chosen to torment her like this.

And Kailun would never tell her that, in the future, she would become one of his killers.

    Chapter 1: I’m Not Really a Devil

    “Thump!”

    “Crash!”

Something collided with the table, sending the towering stack of books tumbling to the ground.

Kailun, who had been sleeping behind the books, was startled awake. He looked down in astonishment at the young woman sprawled on the floor.

She seemed to be around seventeen or eighteen, dressed in a standard school uniform. From behind, her figure was alluring and captivating. Her long, blue hair cascaded down her back, her slender waist was delicately curved, and her long legs, clad in black knee-high socks, were slightly curled as if in immense pain.

Clearly, the young woman lying on the ground was the poor soul who had crashed into Kailun’s table.

A flood of memories washed over Kailun’s mind, making it difficult for him to discern what was real.

    “Have I been reborn?”

He touched his chest, feeling the powerful beating of his heart. It felt surreal, like a dream.

The betrayal of his former friends, being branded a traitor, the shattering of his family, the enduring infamy, and the image of being trampled upon and beheaded were all vivid in his mind.

He was filled with resentment, especially remembering their triumphant smiles as his head rolled on the ground.

Unfortunately, he had realized it all too late. By the time he understood what was happening, everything had already been decided. The once-powerful Duke’s family had met a tragic end.

The coldness of the blade against his neck brought a strange clarity to his thoughts.

“Since everyone claims I am a villain, then this time, I shall truly embrace villainy.”

[Detecting the host’s blazing heart of a villain. The Villain Training System has been successfully loaded.]

[Destiny’s Divergence Point detected. Please make your choice.]

[The favored protagonist’s elder sister has stolen a Forbidden Scroll from the library and disturbed your rest by crashing into your table. Please make an appropriate choice.]

[Option 1: Ignore her and continue sleeping. It’s none of your business. Reward: Obtain the title “Tortoise Immortal,” +10 Free Attribute Points.]

[Option 2: Hand her over to the academy and expose her true colors. Reward: Obtain the title “Justice’s Messenger,” +20 Free Attribute Points.]

[Option 3: Use this to threaten her and exact revenge. Make her experience the true meaning of a villain! Reward: Special rewards based on the positive or negative level of favorability.]

Kailun didn’t yet understand what “attribute points” were, but that didn’t stop him from making the right choice.

Beside the girl’s sleeve lay a scroll with black markings. It was something stored in the library’s vault, containing dangerous magic.

Dangerous, but not fatal. Though called a Forbidden Scroll, it wasn’t particularly rare. Kailun’s family had a whole pile of them in their warehouse.

However, such knowledge was strictly controlled, and ordinary civilians rarely had access to it.

Seemingly noticing Kailun’s gaze, the girl, ignoring the pain, quickly hid the scroll back into her sleeve. Then, she slowly stood up. Judging by the way she clenched her teeth, it was clear she had taken a nasty fall.

“I’m so sorry, it’s all my fault. Let me help you pick up the books.”

Her eyes flickered nervously as she bent down to help Kailun gather the fallen books.

The familiar scene triggered memories from his past life. This was the start of her rise to prominence.

In his previous life, Kailun had been too preoccupied to notice the scroll, allowing her to slip away. This time, things would be different.

Today was a special day. It was not only a turning point in her fate, but also in his.

“Anna, let’s set aside picking up the books for now. I think we have more interesting things to discuss.” Kailun walked over and firmly grabbed the wrist she was using to conceal the scroll.

The girl before him was the elder sister of the very person who had stepped on his head…

Since he was going to seek revenge, why not start with her sister? This woman had also played a part in his persecution. Calling her an enemy wouldn’t be far from the truth. So, Kailun felt no guilt whatsoever in bullying her.

“Kailun, what are you trying to do? Let go of me!” Anna said, her eyes meeting Kailun’s with a mixture of fear and defiance.

She could sense that the once useless, good-for-nothing noble was gone. The Kailun standing before her now exuded a dangerous aura.

    “Thump!”

Without a word, Kailun pressed her wrist against the wall, trapping her. He leaned close to her pretty face, studying her with an intensely invasive gaze.

“What am I trying to do, Sister Anna? Don’t tell me you haven’t figured it out already?”

His scorching breath, so close to her face, sent shivers down Anna’s spine. She was terrified of what he might do to her, but even more afraid that he had seen the scroll and would expose her.

If this incident came to light, she would not only be expelled from the Royal Magic Academy, but also face harsh imprisonment.

All she could do now was pray that Kailun hadn’t seen the scroll that had fallen to the floor.

But luck was not on her side. As her mind raced, Kailun pulled the scroll out from her sleeve.

“What are you doing?! Give it back!”

Anna cried out in alarm, trying to snatch the scroll from Kailun’s grasp.

“Shh!” Kailun responded calmly to her outburst, his voice a low murmur. “Sister Anna, if you keep shouting like that, you’re sure to attract unwanted attention. What kind of faces do you think people will make when they see the brilliant Anna resorting to stealing a Forbidden Scroll? Hmmm, I’m suddenly rather curious. So go ahead, shout some more!”

His words had a sobering effect on Anna, and she quieted down. With downcast eyes and a pitiful expression, she pleaded with him. “I know I was wrong. Please, can you just forget you ever saw it?”

“No,” Kailun stated flatly, shaking his head.

Anna felt a sudden urge to cry.

She bit her lip, then lifted her head to glare at him, resentment flashing in her eyes. “As long as you promise not to tell anyone, I’ll agree to any reasonable request you have.”

Kailun reached out and gently pinched her smooth, delicate cheek, looking down at her with amusement. “Sister Anna, don’t you think you’re overestimating yourself a bit? Do you really believe that a simple request is enough to satisfy me?”

“Kailun, you’ve changed. You were never like this before. You’re no different from those disgusting nobles now. And aren’t you and Paul friends? Isn’t bullying a friend’s sister going too far?!”

Disgust filled her eyes. If she wasn’t caught in a vulnerable position, she would have slapped him without hesitation. Yesterday, Kailun had been nothing but a useless good-for-nothing in her eyes. Today, he had transformed into the spitting image of an arrogant noble.

Kailun continued to toy with her face, shaking his head. “Sister Anna, let’s not distort the truth. You are the one who did something wrong and are begging me to let you off the hook. You’re acting as if I’m the one who needs to apologize and forgive you. If you’d rather enjoy a nice stay in prison, then you’re free to leave right now.”

With that, he placed the Forbidden Scroll back into her hand and proceeded to leisurely gather the books scattered on the floor, placing them back on the table.

It was still class time, and the library was deserted. No one else had witnessed what had transpired between them.

He wasn’t worried about Anna running away or denying everything. It would be pointless.

His task complete, Kailun headed towards the library exit without looking back.

He knew Anna wouldn’t let him leave so easily.

    “Wait!”

As expected, Anna hobbled after him and grabbed his hand, her voice strained with a mixture of frustration and desperation. “I’ll agree to any of your requests! Just please don’t tell anyone about this. Especially not my brother.”

Anna knew that if this incident were to be exposed, it wouldn’t just ruin her life, but also severely impact her younger brother’s future.

“A wise choice,” Kailun said with a smirk. He pulled out a contract and slapped it before her, his eyes gleaming with malicious amusement. “Since you’re begging so sincerely, I’m willing to give you a chance. After all, I’m not a devil.”

Anna stared at the document, her eyes widening in horror as she read its contents.

    “A…A Slave Contract!”

Chapter 18: A Breakthrough in Swordsmanship

As the wine flowed and the conversation deepened, a sense of camaraderie filled the air.

They discussed everything from local customs and anecdotes to the intricacies of politics and the ever-shifting tides of power. Mo Hong, seemingly delighted to have found a kindred spirit, shared tales of his travels, his voice growing more animated with each passing moment.

“You’re over a hundred years old, Master Mo? I would never have guessed.”

“Haha! Longevity is my only claim to fame, Master Lin. But after a century, I still haven’t found a worthy successor. What a shame.”

“Fate will bring you the right person when the time is right.”

Lin Tianlu offered words of comfort, taking a sip of his wine.

He couldn’t discern the quality of the wine, but he enjoyed the convivial atmosphere.

Mo Hong drained his cup, the initial cheerfulness fading from his face.

As the alcohol took hold, a shadow of melancholy settled over him.

“…Master Lin, let me be frank.”

He gazed up at the night sky, his eyes distant and unfocused.

“I’ve wandered the world for decades, seeking a breakthrough in my swordsmanship. I’ve honed my skills, nurtured my sword, hoping to reach a realm beyond the grasp of ordinary mortals.”

    “A noble pursuit.”

“But after all these years, I’ve made no progress. I’m a dull blade, incapable of reaching its full potential.”

He slowly untied the straps securing his sword, laying the ancient weapon across his lap. His calloused fingers traced its worn surface, his voice barely a whisper. “This old friend has been with me for over half my life. I fear it won’t live to see me achieve my goal. In the end, it will become nothing but scrap metal, and I will return to the dust, forgotten by the world.”

Lin Tianlu set down his cup, watching the old man with a mixture of surprise and sympathy.

His words were laced with a profound sadness, a sense of resignation that tugged at Lin Tianlu’s heart.

“My lifelong dream… it’s nothing but an illusion. I’ve wasted my life chasing a phantom.”

Mo Hong chuckled bitterly. “What a pathetic existence.”

“Master Mo, don’t give up hope.”

Lin Tianlu’s voice, firm and reassuring, snapped him out of his despair.

“A swordsman who loses his spirit, his sword heart… he has no chance of achieving true mastery.”

Mo Hong’s eyes widened, his body trembling as a wave of realization washed over him. He bowed deeply, his voice trembling with gratitude. “Thank you, Master Lin! You’ve saved me from myself. I was losing my way.”

“It’s understandable that you feel frustrated, Master Mo. You’ve dedicated your life to your craft, and yet you haven’t achieved the breakthrough you seek.” Lin Tianlu paused, choosing his words carefully. “I’m just a young man. I can’t offer you profound wisdom or guidance in swordsmanship. But…

You’ve traveled the world, Master Mo. You’ve seen more than most people could ever imagine. Perhaps… what you need is not more knowledge, but a shift in perspective, a moment of clarity.”

Mo Hong chuckled wryly. “Such moments are rare, Master Lin. Fate is unlikely to smile upon an old man like me.”

    “Fate?”

Lin Tianlu shook his head. “Don’t underestimate yourself, Master Mo. The journey you’ve taken, the mountains you’ve climbed, the rivers you’ve crossed… those are the opportunities, the ‘fate’ you’ve earned.

The beauty of nature, the vastness of the world… it’s all within you. You just need to stop, look back, and reflect on the journey you’ve taken.”

Mo Hong stared at him, his eyes wide with a mixture of confusion and hope.

    “Ah, forget it!”

Lin Tianlu chuckled, waving his hand dismissively. “I’m just a scholar, spouting empty words. I’m sure you’ve heard it all before.

Why don’t you teach me how to play Go instead? It’ll help you relax.”

He gathered the scattered Go stones, pushing the white jade box towards Mo Hong. He picked up a handful of black stones, a playful smile curving his lips.

“I’m still a bit confused about the rules. I need your guidance.”

    “…”

But Mo Hong stared at the empty board, his eyes unfocused, his mind elsewhere.

A swirling mist, ethereal and dreamlike, enveloped them. Peach trees blossomed around them, their branches laden with fragrant pink flowers, creating a scene of otherworldly beauty.

Lin Tianlu’s form shifted, transforming into a white-haired youth, dressed in flowing robes, his aura radiating an almost divine power. He gestured towards the stone table, where a Go board now sat, its surface polished to a mirror sheen.

The board was covered in black and white stones, their arrangement intricate and complex.

The stones seemed to represent opposing forces, yin and yang, their interplay creating a tapestry of life and death, joy and sorrow, victory and defeat.

It was a reflection of Mo Hong’s life, a game that had reached a stalemate, with no moves left to play.

And then, the ‘Lin Tianlu’ smiled, his sleeve sweeping across the board, scattering the stones, both black and white.

    “This—”

Mo Hong’s mind reeled, the illusion shattering around him.

But the knot that had been constricting his heart for decades loosened, a sense of clarity washing over him.

He gripped his sword, his head thrown back as a wave of exhilaration surged through him. His aura shifted, his entire being radiating a newfound power, sharp and focused like a newly forged blade.

He rose to his feet, his voice booming through the courtyard as he let out a triumphant roar.

Lin Tianlu blinked, startled by the sudden outburst.

This old man had some serious lungs. And built-in echo effects?

What was he yelling about at this hour?

Before he could intervene, Mo Hong bowed deeply, his face flushed with excitement. “Master Lin, I will never forget your kindness! You’ve shown me the way!”

And then, with a burst of speed that belied his age, he leaped into the air.

“If fate allows us to meet again, I will repay your kindness tenfold!”

His laughter echoed through the night, his sword intent soaring towards the heavens, a mixture of relief and joy.

He landed on the courtyard wall, his foot shattering a large section of brick and mortar as he vanished into the darkness.

“…” Lin Tianlu stared after him, speechless.

    “Master, what happened?!”

Hua Shuya, her hair still damp from her bath, rushed out of the house, her sword drawn.

    “What was that crashing sound—?”

She stopped short, her eyes widening as she saw the gaping hole in the courtyard wall.

    “The… the wall! What happened?!”

Lin Tianlu sighed. “That old man yelled really loud and then jumped over the wall.”

Hua Shuya blinked, processing his words. Her face hardened, and she drew her sword, her voice cold and sharp. “That old man has no manners! Don’t worry, Master. I’ll bring him back!”

“Wait, it’s late. There’s no need to chase after him.”

Lin Tianlu chuckled, waving his hand dismissively. “We can report it to the authorities tomorrow.”

He would make sure that old man paid for the damages.

“Yes, Master! I’ll make sure he’s brought to justice!”

    “Ahem, ahem!”

A cough echoed from the doorway.

Hua Shuya whirled around, her sword raised, her body shielding Lin Tianlu.

Mo Hong stood there, a sheepish grin on his face. He bowed apologetically. “My apologies, Master. I had a sudden breakthrough, and I got a bit carried away. I didn’t mean to damage your wall.”

“You will repair it, Old Master Mo,” Hua Shuya growled, her voice laced with a chilling authority. “Or you won’t leave this courtyard.”

Mo Hong’s face paled. “Of course, of course! I came back to fix it!”

A short while later, Hua Shuya returned, carrying a bucket of mortar and a stack of bricks. She supervised as Mo Hong, two towels draped over his shoulders, his sleeves rolled up, set to work repairing the wall. He handled the trowel with surprising skill, his movements swift and precise, like a seasoned mason.

Lin Tianlu watched from a distance, munching on peanuts, a thoughtful frown on his face.

    This sword master…

He was a surprisingly humble man.

Chapter 19: Because You Were Originally a Good Person

Although many people are reluctant to admit or realize it, in fact, most people have a certain dark side in their hearts, whether they are players or NPCs.

For example, in the world of “Iron and Fire,” there are often NPCs who renege on their promises after releasing missions, and even try to kill the players who completed the missions.

And the players are immortal, so why would they be afraid of this? If you want to mess with me, of course I will fight back directly, but it is very troublesome to be calculated by NPCs all the time when doing missions.

However, there is an organization whose NPCs will never calculate players, that is, the “Blade Warriors” within the territory of the Holy Solomon Empire, composed of extraordinary warriors who hope to serve their lords with their swords. They master the “Kingsguard” bloodline path, the first Sequence of which is Justice X.

Whether it is a murderous bandit or a sneaky thief, as long as they drink Justice X, they will all become knights of noble character.

They keep their word, do not play tricks, do not bully the weak, and will definitely give the rewards they promised to the players. If the difficulty of the mission is 100 points, they will never say it is only 99 points. If the players complain that the difficulty is too high, they will even take the initiative to add money. They are a shining example among the NPCs who release missions, a friend of the players.

What’s even more amazing is that this change in personality is not gradual, but the moment the potion takes effect, it cuts off the dark psychology of the NPC and directly removes it.

Asker still remembers a mission called “One Drink to Forget,” which was about a drunkard NPC who had just joined the Blade Warriors. Because chivalry did not allow him to drink excessively, he could only ask the player to find him good wine.

When the player found the wine, the guy even brought the bottle to his mouth, but in the end, he still couldn’t drink it, his face full of pain, entanglement, and helplessness. So the name of Justice X spread among the players, and they gave it the nickname “Honest Man” potion, meaning “Drink this bottle of milk, and you will be an honest man.”

According to some adventurous players, after drinking Justice X, your game character can no longer steal, provoke, or kill for no reason, nor can you break into the homes of NPCs without permission. Even some players who like to swear found that even some aggressive words were blocked, such as “What are you looking ******” and “What ****** are you looking at,” which became “beep!” when they came out of their mouths, causing a lot of complaints from uncomfortable players.

Of course, there are also those who feel that it is very immersive after getting used to it again.

“Ah, I don’t feel anything.” Eleanor said puzzled.

“How can you not feel anything?” Asker was quite surprised. “Don’t you have a feeling of ‘I don’t know why, but I’m being forced to turn over a new leaf,’ or ‘I didn’t have a choice before, but now I want to be a good person’?”

    “No.” Eleanor said honestly.

“If someone on the side of the road asks you for donations in the name of ‘a child at home is seriously ill and needs help’,” Asker thought of a classic psychological test question online and asked, “what would you do?”

“Donate money.” Eleanor blinked. “See how much money I have on me.”

“What if the other party is a liar?” Asker immediately asked, “In fact, there is no sick child at all, he is just using this name to cheat money and squander donations?”

“If I can be 100% sure that he is a liar, then I definitely won’t donate money.” Eleanor said in a matter-of-fact tone, “But even if there is only a 1% chance that it is true, why wouldn’t I donate? Maybe it can save the life of an innocent child, right?”

“So that’s how it is.” Asker sighed, “So you were a good person from the beginning.”

“Because her values are already very upright, so even after taking the Justice X potion, her mentality has not changed at all?” Medea said thoughtfully.

“That’s great.” Nuo, who thought she wouldn’t donate money in this situation, said guiltily, “Eleanor, you are really a kind and good person.”

“I don’t know if it’s my illusion, but I feel like you are mocking me?” Eleanor said suspiciously.

“No, this is not mockery. In this cruel era, there are fewer and fewer people like you.” Asker touched his chin and sighed, “Once upon a time, I was also a pure-hearted teenager, how did I become so dark and suspicious now?”

He muttered and turned to Nuo and instructed, “Nuo, pay attention not to let Eleanor handle the team’s funds, I’m afraid she will be cheated out of all her money in the future.”

    “Okay.” Nuo nodded.

“Wait a minute!” Eleanor cried and laughed, “Why did you suddenly start looking down on me! Don’t look at me with that pitiful look!”

In addition to affecting her mentality, Justice X also provided Eleanor with a certain amount of physical and mental strength, making her six attributes significantly improved. Another thing worth mentioning was the “Smite Evil” ability. According to Eleanor, who automatically acquired the relevant knowledge, this ability gave her a stronger ability to strike evil. When fighting evil enemies, her six attributes would receive a significant bonus.

“The question is, how do we judge who is evil?” Medea asked, thinking to herself that I wouldn’t be classified as the type that “Smite Evil” would work on, would I?

“Free heart certificate, if I remember correctly.” Asker said, “The premise is that Eleanor needs to sincerely believe that the enemy is evil, then the ability of Smite Evil will take effect on her.”

“Eh! Then, if I use the ability of Mind I to exert mental influence on Eleanor.” Medea’s eyes lit up and she said, “As long as she thinks that the enemy in front of her is evil, then no matter who she faces, wouldn’t she be able to exert the bonus of ‘Smite Evil’?”

“You are a genius.” Asker said, both amused and annoyed. Of course, this method had been explored by players and nicknamed “Justice Warrior Sleepwalking Style” or “Hypnosis Flow,” but it was not discovered until much later in the plot. The fact that Medea could come up with such a cheap trick without any hindrance the second she heard about the characteristics of Justice X showed that this woman was a schemer herself.

Eleanor’s mouth was half open, as if she had never thought of this. She hesitated and said:

“But… wouldn’t it violate the true meaning of justice to interfere with the judgment of good and evil with mental abilities?”

“What is the true meaning of justice?” Medea asked disdainfully.

“Justice is…” Eleanor tried to speak, but was interrupted by Medea’s righteous words, “The true meaning of justice is to defeat the enemy! Only by surviving can you have a say. How can dead justice be justice? If it’s dead, you say it’s evil, and it becomes evil. Can it still get up and talk back?”

Eleanor didn’t refute, but her expression clearly showed that she didn’t accept it.

“So now in our team, there are two people who are still missing potions.” Asker quickly came out to smooth things over and changed the subject, “Medea, how are your potion materials?”

“I haven’t collected the Menarche yet.” Medea burst into tears. Other spiritual materials were easy to say, even if the origin was far away, there would always be merchants selling them. This strange thing depended on the right time. In order to avoid attracting attention, Medea secretly contacted dozens of poor families in the city, all of whom had 12 or 13-year-old adolescent daughters, and bribed their parents with a lot of money – as for when their daughters’ menarche would come, only God knew.

Maybe tomorrow? Maybe next year? It was simply unpredictable.

“Nuo’s Life I, we already collected the formula and main materials last night.” Asker didn’t tell everyone about last night’s battle, but took out the Life I formula and showed it:

    -Ingredient-

    • Three Flowers of the Eden Tree

    -Subsidiary-

    • Two Seeds of the Fruit of Eden

    • One spoon of Corfu Olive Oil

    • 200ml of Fruit Brandy (Rakijas)

    -Processing-
Take fruit brandy (the brewing ingredients must include the following 10 kinds of fruits: plum, pear, apricot, peach, raspberry, orange, apple, cherry, banana, red date, no honey is allowed), add one spoon of Corfu olive oil, crush two Seeds of the Fruit of Eden and add them. Finally, put in three Flowers of the Eden Tree, with the pistils facing up, and let them sink naturally. After the petals change color, the liquid can be drunk.

“We have both the Fruit of Eden and olive oil.” Nuo said in surprise.

“The main material, Flower of the Eden Tree, can be replaced by the extraordinary characteristic of Life I.” Asker thought for a moment and said, “Only the auxiliary material, fruit brandy, we have to go to the taverns in the lower city to find it.”

“And Peggy and Eleanor, you two have just been promoted to level 1, and the extraordinary power inside has not been fully digested.” Asker looked at the two of them, “You must practice through actual combat to transform it into corresponding physical and mental strength. Today I will go out with Nuo to collect auxiliary materials, you two go to the training ground under the hotel last time to spar. Medea, you watch over them and don’t let any accidents or injuries happen.”

    “Oh, okay.” Medea replied absentmindedly.

So everyone went out and acted separately. Peggy, Eleanor, and Medea went to the training ground, while Asker and Nuo went to the wineries in the city to look for auxiliary materials. In the room opposite the ancestral home, the Church spy yawned as he watched these people go out.

“This young nobleman is very strong, he actually took in 4 girls for the night?” The spy muttered, writing down the recorded information on the document in his hand. But he knew in his heart that this was just routine.

Unless the other party blatantly used extraordinary power, or something strange happened in the house, even if his surveillance records were submitted, it was very likely that no one would pay attention to them, and they would probably be thrown into some wastepaper pile.

He twirled his pencil boredly, rested his hands on the windowsill of the surveillance, stared at the empty house and door, and narrowed his eyes lazily.

Chapter 18: A Contest in the Dark

At 11:30 p.m., Asker accompanied Nuo to Doroc Road in the slums.

“Will it be dangerous?” Nuo looked at the dark road on both sides and the homeless people sleeping in the alleys, covered with cardboard boxes. She whispered with some fear.

“Nuo, there is danger everywhere,” Asker said lightly. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come with you.”

“Hmm.” Nuo nodded, still feeling a little uneasy.

Arriving at the door of house number 44, she reached out to knock, but Asker stopped her.

Asker raised the hilt of his sword and knocked on the door.

Is he worried that there are extraordinary traps on the door? Nuo immediately had the urge to take notes again.

The door opened, and inside was darkness, only a faint figure could be seen sitting on the bed. Asker sneered in his heart, it was indeed an enemy.

Nuo carefully glanced inside, and suddenly felt a chill, as if something had invaded her body and was fighting her for control. Her thinking became sluggish, her senses dulled, and Nuo felt it difficult to breathe. She wanted to scream, but found that the vocal cords in her throat were out of control and she couldn’t make any sound.

Asker encountered the same situation, but he was already level 1, and his spirituality was much stronger than Nuo’s, so he could barely move. As his body gradually became disobedient, he did not show any panic, but slowly turned his wrist, aiming the muzzle at the darkness on the left.

Bang!!! The roar of the Desert Eagle sounded, and Nuo only felt as if she had been hit in the face with a sledgehammer, blood almost oozing from her ears and nose… At the same time, her body quickly returned to normal. She stumbled and grabbed the door frame, just in time to see Asker light the flint, illuminating the scene in the room.

It was a simple shack of about twelve square meters. A young man in a yellow priest’s robe was sitting on the bed, his eyes rolled back and his face was blue and purple, obviously dead. Another body was in the shadows behind the left door, a middle-aged man in his thirties wearing a black robe, with a large hole blown open in his chest by the elephant hunting bullet. He was lying in a pool of blood, his face still showing an expression of disbelief.

“That’s a Spirit II extraordinary,” Asker stepped forward quickly and began to search the young man’s belongings on the bed. “Spirit II can freely manipulate nearby spirits and attach them to inanimate objects, such as a pistol, so they can shoot. Or invade living bodies and compete with the spirits inside for control.”

“Of course, it’s not foolproof.” He pointed to the body in the corner and added, “The higher the Sequence of the extraordinary, the lower the possibility of being successfully possessed by a spirit. From the moment I entered the door, I was holding the pistol in the arm armor of my cotton armor. Just turning my wrist and pulling the trigger, I could still do it in the state of resisting spiritual invasion.”

“So that’s how it is.” Nuo felt inexplicably ashamed. The moment the door opened, Asker had already assumed a posture ready to fight back with his gun, while her subconscious first reaction was to stick her head in to look. The gap in actual combat experience between the two was too big.

And even if she was on guard, her first reaction would definitely be to treat the corpse sitting on the bed as the enemy. How could she have imagined that the real enemy was hiding in the darkness behind the left door? By the way, how did Asker know?

“Two birds with one stone, you are lucky, Nuo.” Asker took out two formulas from the sleeve of the corpse on the bed. “Life I and Radiance I, this is a Life School extraordinary who tried to advance to level 2, but unfortunately he died here before he could put the formula into action.”

He finally pulled off the topaz signet ring from the corpse’s finger, glanced at it, turned around and went to search the body in the corner. Nuo looked at the corpse on the bed and bit her lip uneasily: “So… inviting me here was actually a trap?”

“Maybe.” Asker said, “Maybe the “Life School” learned at the party that someone was looking to buy the Life I formula, so they lured you here to join the organization, but were intercepted and killed by someone from the Spirit School. Or maybe the interception happened earlier, and it was the Spirit School people who attended the party. They suspected that you were a newcomer who wanted to join the Life School, so they deliberately lured you into this trap.”

“I think it’s the latter. If they were willing to let you join the organization just because they learned that you were looking to buy Life I, then the Life School would be too hasty.” Asker analyzed, and finally found his target: the Spirit I formula, the Life I extraordinary characteristic belonging to the corpse on the bed, and the Spirit II extraordinary characteristic of the murderer himself.

This time it was a real bargain! Asker thought with satisfaction. Three Sequence I formulas, two extraordinary characteristics (lv1 and lv2), and the ring of the Life School, the combined value was at least 600-700 pounds. The players on the game forum summarized that “murder and arson lead to a golden belt, while farming and development lead to elimination” was not a random joke. The price difference between the mysterious world and the secular world was really too big. The total price of his two shops in the imperial capital was only a little over 1200 pounds, and now he had recovered half of it by killing an extraordinary.

“Let’s go.” He took Nuo and left the scene.

“Are the Life School and the Spirit School mortal enemies?” Nuo asked curiously.

“The Life School is also called the Druid School, originating from the ancient Kate people. They master the ‘Shepherd of Trees’ bloodline path, whose main Sequences are ‘Life’ and ‘Radiance’.” Asker explained, “The Spirit School originated from the ancient Siris people. They master the ‘Spirit Witch’ bloodline path, whose main Sequences are ‘Spirit’ and ‘Undead’.”

“The two schools were once close allies in the Third Epoch. At that time, the military power of the ancient Republic of Solomon almost conquered the entire continent. Both the Siris and Kate people were forced to submit to the Solomon people, so they also had the intention of joining hands to resist the common enemy. The ‘Singer of Life’ bloodline path was the product of the honeymoon period between the two schools.” Asker explained in detail, “Later, in the Fourth Epoch, with the division of the Solomon Empire into East and West, the Siris people were completely integrated into the Eastern Solomon Empire and began to regard themselves as Solomon people, while the Kate people were annexed by the Germanic people. As their ideologies and cultures gradually diverged, the two schools eventually broke up.”

“To make matters worse, because the two schools were too closely related during the Third Epoch, they both knew and possessed a lot of confidential information about each other. Therefore, after the breakup, both sides wanted to put each other to death.” Asker said leisurely, “As the saying goes, the most bitter hatred comes from those closest to you, and this is probably the reason.”

“Is that so?” Nuo immediately began to imagine, her mind filled with the tragic story of the two schools’ entanglement of love, hate, and hatred over thousands of years.

The next day, Asker woke up from his bed in the study and saw that the window on the third floor was open. A bulging package was placed on the desk, with a note attached to it, written in delicate handwriting:

    Cash on delivery

    M.C. (short for Mia Cinquemani)

P.S. There is a Church spy at your door

“Asker! Asker!” Nuo rushed in and shouted in a panic, “Our house has been burglarized! I just checked our belongings and found that 210 pounds are missing! The thief also left a note saying that it was payment for the goods…”

She stared at the package on the desk in a daze. Asker covered his forehead and said helplessly:

“Yes, your spiritual materials have arrived. She took the money too.”

“The goods have arrived?” The other three girls came upon hearing the news.

The package on the desk was opened, revealing a dazzling array of spiritual materials. The Galya Canyon river water was contained in a mineral water bottle with the label torn off, about 400 ml; the Fruit of Eden was a light green apple-like fruit, wrapped in three layers of plastic film; the Corfu olive oil was filled in a glass jam jar.

The Vila eagle feathers were tied with hemp rope, there were six or seven of them; the Bosnia Bay geoduck was packed in a plastic bottle; the Golden-Striped Leech paste was packed in an empty makeup powder box, with a label on it, handwritten with a big word: Stinky.

The service of the Thieves Guild was really too thoughtful, they actually delivered more than the amount on the order, obviously they had taken on a lot of business from extraordinary people before, so they also took into account the material loss of potion preparation failure… Asker thought to himself, then said:

“Since the materials are all here, let’s start preparing the Justice X potion.”

“What about my Life Steal I?” Peggy protested, the materials for her potion formula had also been collected.

“You?” Asker glanced at her, “Have you digested all your Flesh I extraordinary characteristics?”

Medea echoed, “It is very dangerous to take a level 2 potion without digesting the level 1 potion completely. Because the original potion in your body has not been ‘tamed’, taking potions of other Sequences is prone to ‘runaway’, which greatly increases the risk of losing control of spirituality.”

Seeing that Peggy was too depressed to speak, Asker waved his hand helplessly: “Let’s do what we can first.”

Eleanor immediately set up the crucible excitedly and started to help Asker. First, she measured out 100 ml of Galya Canyon river water with a beaker, poured it into the crucible, and lit the fire. Four minutes later, the river water boiled, and Asker took out a pair of Shadow Worm Beast’s Eyes and carefully placed them in the center of the boiling water.

With a pop, the eyeballs of the Shadow Worm Beast burst in the boiling water, and ink-like black liquid flowed out from the cracks in the eyeballs, quickly dyeing all the water black. The originally boiling liquid surface also calmed down strangely, and there was no response no matter how the flame below heated it.

Asker took out the reagent bag containing the diamond powder and poured it in. The powder dispersed in the liquid and seemed to dissolve quickly. Finally, he took out the Vila eagle feathers and put them in one by one.

Dots of light appeared in the pitch-black liquid, like a galaxy in the night sky, giving people a feeling of depth just by looking at it. Asker sniffed the smell, and after confirming that there was no problem, he poured it into a beaker and handed it to Eleanor.

Eleanor took the beaker containing the potion, her throat twitched, closed her eyes, and drank it all in one gulp. Then her skin began to glow. Her golden curly hair suddenly turned silvery white, and her pink lips turned pale. She opened her eyes blankly and unconsciously, her pupils turned into golden crosses, with faint rotating patterns.

She opened her mouth and let out a long, meaningless sigh, and her whole body slowly returned to normal.

“How do you feel?” Nuo asked with concern.

“I’m fine.” Eleanor looked at her body. “It feels like I’ve had a sunbath, my whole body is warm.”

“Has your mentality changed?” Asker frowned and asked, “There are many records in history showing that after taking Justice X, extraordinary people will obviously feel that the dark side of human nature has been violently stripped away, resulting in temporary psychological discomfort.”

    Chapter 17: Perfect Physique X

“Kill him!” The gunmen roared furiously, raising their guns and firing.

Asker rolled and dodged behind a nearby house. Countless bullets rained down like a storm, kicking up dust from the ground. Looking at the chaotic scene of random shooting, Asker sighed.

The most important thing for a gunman was positioning and movement, followed by tactical awareness, and finally their own control and reaction speed. These gunmen actually chose to charge head-on, their positioning and movement knowledge close to zero; they were still shooting at the empty ground when they had lost sight of the target, and their tactical awareness was also nonexistent. Dealing with these trash NPCs really felt like a strong man beating up a child.

The opponent was too weak, it was not even exciting!

The gunmen were still shooting at the empty ground, while the other part of the gunmen had quietly split up, taking advantage of the time when their companions were attracting the enemy’s attention with gunfire, they outflanked and tried to sneak attack from behind. As a result, when they went around to the back of the house, they saw no one.

Just as everyone was stunned, a burst of intensive gunfire rang out, and several of the outflanking gunmen fell down.

“Rooftop! He’s on the roof!” The gunmen reacted one after another, and just as they raised their muzzles, they saw a figure flash past from the roof and disappear behind the eaves.

“Intercept him with your men! Patrick, what are you doing over there!” The leader of the gunmen roared angrily. During the outflanking just now, he asked his confidant Patrick to take three or four people to stay on the other side of the house, for fear that the enemy would notice and run away. As a result, the enemy jumped off the roof in that direction, but there was no gunshot from Patrick’s side.

“Patrick and his men are all dead!” The gunman who rushed over there turned his head and shouted, “Just now, when he was on the roof!”

Before he finished speaking, another gunshot rang out, and the leader of the gunmen fell to the ground. The bullet went through his skull, leaving a black hole in his forehead.

“The boss is dead too!” The gunmen shouted in panic, continuing to charge in the direction of the gunshot with their guns. Although ferocity and bloodiness were still supporting them to continue fighting, they had lost their command after all, and the formation originally used for outflanking immediately fell apart.

“Left! The brothers on the left are down, he’s on the left!”

“No! The bullet came from the right!”

“Above! He’s on the roof again!”

“Suppressive fire! What are you all doing? Can’t even lock onto one person?”

As the gunmen continued to howl and get killed, the rest finally began to waver. From the beginning of the battle until now, more than twenty people on their side had been shot and killed, and the other side had not even lost a single hair. Even in many cases, they only caught a glimpse of a back, and then they could not find the target. Five or six seconds later, the gunshots rang out again, and as his companions fell one after another, everyone realized that the man had already moved to another direction.

This battle could not be fought anymore! It was completely like a mouse chasing a cat, a dead end! Soon the remaining people reached an agreement in horror, dispersed, and fled for their lives.

Asker hid in the shadows of the corner, quietly watching the gunmen flee, and did not pursue. These trash NPCs didn’t even have extraordinary characteristics, killing them was a waste of bullets. Did bullets not cost money?

He walked out of the corner, looked at the corpses all over the ground, and sighed helplessly again.

After this massacre, no one stopped him from leaving the slums, and the city guards didn’t even show up… Everyone knew that the slums were a chaotic area, and no one was willing to patrol there. So Asker returned to the ancestral home without any hindrance, only to see that everyone else had returned.

“The Shadow Worm Beast’s Eye and the Thick Scales have been purchased, and the diamond powder and iron oxide powder have also been bought. It cost a total of 130 pounds.” Medea handed over the banknotes. “In addition, I bought a set of alchemy equipment, which cost 1 pound… This is the remaining 419 pounds.”

Asker also did not refuse and took back the banknotes. A set of alchemy equipment cost 1 pound? God knows how much Medea had embezzled here, but it didn’t matter, anyway, banknotes were meant to be spent. Especially the money in the game, there was really no heartache in spending it.

Seeing that he didn’t say anything, Nuo couldn’t stand it anymore and said:

“Everyone, the potion to become an extraordinary being is our own business, it’s not good to use Asker’s own funds, right? I suggest that we pay for the materials and formulas ourselves. If we don’t have the money, we can ask Asker to advance it from our future salaries.”

“Hey, the idea of a salary advance is good.” Eleanor echoed, “I agree.”

“We have no problem with that.” Peggy and Medea both expressed their opinions.

“Okay.” Asker said with a smile, “The materials I ordered should arrive tomorrow, a total of 230 pounds. Plus the 130 pounds you spent on procurement, and the 100 pounds already spent at the party, the total price is 460 pounds. According to our contract, the current monthly salary is 2 pounds. If calculated on an average basis, your salary for the next 5 years will be gone.”

    Everyone: ???

“How about this.” Seeing everyone’s awkward silence, Asker said with a smile, “The potion formula materials are originally a large expenditure, even far exceeding your daily expenses. Why don’t we set up a ‘Team Extraordinary Fund’ and put all the team’s profits into this fund. We will not raise our salaries in the future, and everyone can receive 2 pounds from the fund every month to maintain daily living expenses. As for the potion material expenses, they will be paid from the team fund. In this regard, we need an accountant…”

“Then let Nuo be in charge.” He patted his head and appointed.

“Oh, okay.” Nuo also readily agreed. Everyone knew that she was very rich, although they didn’t know the specific amount of her wealth, anyway, they didn’t have to worry about her embezzling.

“As the founder and leader of the team, I personally invested 520 pounds.” Asker stated, “Except for the balance of the materials I ordered, this is all the funds I have left.”

“I can also invest 500 pounds.” Nuo said a little guilty. In fact, she could take out ten times the amount of funds, but after all, she couldn’t exceed Asker’s contribution, otherwise, if the investment ratio exceeded that of the founder, she would be suspected of seizing power.

“I’ll contribute 200 pounds.” Medea said readily. This was the intelligence fund allocated to her by the Seljuk Empire, which she had embezzled, so she didn’t feel bad about paying it out.

“I have no money.” Peggy said.

“I… I’ll contribute 5 pounds.” Eleanor was quite ashamed, this was all the property she had on her.

“That’s it then.” Asker clapped his hands and settled the matter.

Thus, the small team initially established its own small treasury, with a starting capital of 1225 pounds. In this era when the registered capital of a company only needed to be about 100 pounds, 1225 pounds was already a considerable amount of property, but it was a matter of minutes to throw it into the mysterious world – even the materials for Sequence I potions were sold for 100 pounds each.

However, everyone was not in a hurry to worry about the funds, because Asker was about to start refining his first potion.

“Please keep the alchemy rules in mind.” Asker said as he set up a small crucible on the desk and lit a fire under it with a portable alcohol can. At the same time, he tore open the packaging of a pair of disposable plastic gloves. “First, safety; second, cleanliness; third, secrecy.”

The girls all stared at his every move, even Medea – in the Seljuk Empire, her potions were all finished products delivered directly by the court. Since she made up her mind to betray the country, she had to prepare all these things herself.

Asker unscrewed the bottle cap and first poured in the Strength X potion, covering one-third of the height of the crucible.

“Note that the total volume of liquid cannot exceed half the height of the crucible, otherwise a larger crucible needs to be replaced.” As Asker said this, the potion quickly boiled, and bubbles began to gurgle out. As the water gradually evaporated, bright red crystals precipitated at the bottom of the pot.

“If there is an existing potion, evaporating the water by heating is a common method to obtain the extraordinary characteristics contained in the potion.” Asker carefully scraped off the crystals and placed them in a petri dish covered with filter paper. “However, some Sequences that are opposite to high temperature, such as frost, shadow, etc., cannot be heated, so they can only be left to stand and then blown with a fan to allow the solvent to evaporate naturally. Some solvents are oily and more troublesome, so more advanced methods need to be used.”

He replaced it with a new crucible and repeated the same procedure, obtaining the extraordinary characteristics of Intelligence X and Agility X – beautiful crystals of ocean blue and grass green respectively. Next, Asker added about 20 ml of absolute ethanol to the new crucible, and then added the three extraordinary characteristics at the same time.

The absolute ethanol immediately boiled at room temperature, but the water level did not drop at all. The color of the liquid suddenly changed from red to blue, from blue to green, and from green to red. It changed faster and faster, and finally gradually turned into an opaque milky white, calming down.

“If it is an existing high Sequence potion, you can tell whether it is successful or not with spiritual intuition.” Asker picked up the beaker and fanned the air above it with his hand. “Otherwise, you can smell it like this. If it fails, you will feel dizzy when you smell it. If it succeeds, you will have a desire to drink it when you smell it.”

He tilted his neck and drank the potion in the beaker in one gulp, then immediately opened his mouth and gasped, “This alcohol is too strong, I can’t stand it.”

“Asker, your eyes!” Nuo exclaimed. In the eyes of the girls, Asker’s iris began to turn white. The muscles all over his body began to swell, faintly tightening the collar and cuffs of his cotton armor. His lips turned bright red, the pores all over his body seemed to open, his hair stood on end, and the blood vessels in the whites of his eyes almost bulged. Large bumps bulged from his neck, as if something was surging under his skin.

Gradually, the abnormality subsided. As an ordinary person who had never drunk a potion before, Asker’s body had excellent tolerance for Perfect Physique X, so there were no signs of conflict or loss of control.

It was a success. Asker slowly felt the abundant spirituality welling up in his body. Perfect Physique X brought him a lot of extraordinary power and also accelerated the conversion speed of extraordinary power into physical and mental strength. His explosive power, muscle control, endurance, reaction speed, as well as thinking ability and willpower concentration, were all significantly improved. There were no longer any shortcomings in all aspects of his body, and he was no longer prone to illness, poisoning, or aging.

He was now a real level 1.

  • The Azure Longsword 16

    Chapter 16: The Swindler

“Let Mia get the Vila eagle feathers for you,” Maestro wrote on the paper. “And the Golden-Striped Leeches…”

“I know where to find the Golden-Striped Leeches,” Asker said. “Inside the seventh mountain, there’s an abandoned ‘Sunken Palace’ called Mocius, right?”

“Yes,” Maestro nodded. “That reservoir has long been abandoned by the Empire. They say it’s haunted. The water drawn from it is red, with a faint smell of blood, undrinkable. Our people have explored it before, but most never returned… Are you saying there are Golden-Striped Leeches there?”

“Leeches are found all over the continent, and Golden-Striped Leeches must live where there are many people because they need to consume a large amount of blood,” Asker explained. “Usually, the Golden Leeches in the city are quickly discovered and eliminated by the Church because they prey on victims. However, the underground reservoir in Constantinople is an exception because someone is raising fish there… Have you never counted the number of fish?”

“We did notice that the number of fish each year doesn’t match the number of fry we put in,” Maestro said awkwardly. “But we thought it was because the reservoir was connected to the outside, and some fish escaped through the waterways.”

“So it was actually the Golden-Striped Leeches stealing our fish?” Mia said angrily. “I’m going to kill them all!”

“Then you’ll lose a fortune,” Asker said leisurely. “The spirituality of dead extraordinary creatures dissipates quickly, losing its original value.”

“Ahem, Mia,” Maestro winked. “We can seal off that pool and go in regularly to hunt Golden-Striped Leeches and sell them to rich people like Master Achilles.”

“Good idea.” Mia’s eyes lit up. “Esteemed Master Achilles, since you want Golden-Striped Leeches, you must have collected ways to deal with them, right?”

This girl… As soon as money is mentioned, she changes her tune to “esteemed.” Asker slandered in his heart but smiled on the surface:

“Of course. Golden-Striped Leeches like warm, humid, and dark places. After they are full of blood, they will attach themselves to walls or ceilings, emitting a faint striped golden light, hence their name. Dealing with them is even simpler. A stun grenade and a flashbang can stun their bodies and disrupt their spirituality, then you can just drag them back with a large net.”

“So that’s how it is.” Mia began to rub her fists together. Obviously, military supplies such as stun grenades and flashbangs were not impossible for the Thieves Guild to obtain.

“Then all the items on the list are complete,” Maestro said. “10 pounds of Galya Canyon river water, 30 pounds of Fruit of Eden, and we’ll charge you 70 pounds for the geoduck. These spiritual materials all involve overseas smuggling channels, so the price will be 50%-70% higher than buying locally. Vila eagle feathers, Golden extraordinary leeches, the market price is originally 120 pounds each, but in return for your clues, we will only charge you half the price for each, a total of 230 pounds.”

“I’ll pay a 30% deposit first, which is 69 pounds,” Asker replied readily. At this time, what he needed most was to collect the potion ingredients as soon as possible. For this reason, whether it was providing information on spiritual materials to the other party for free or bearing a little insignificant price premium, it didn’t matter at all. “But it must be delivered tomorrow.”

“No problem.” Before Maestro could speak, Mia had already agreed and then stretched out her hands confidently. Asker twitched the corner of his mouth, counted out 69 pounds of banknotes, and stuffed them into her hand.

“This 69 pounds is my income from the feathers and leeches!” Mia shouted at Maestro. “Consider it an advance!”

Maestro ignored her and just clapped his hands and called another thief over to row Asker out.

Sailing in the waterway corridor, Asker looked at the dark water in the distance and asked casually:

“What is Maestro’s position in the Thieves Guild?”

“He is our Shadow Mentor,” the rowing thief replied respectfully.

Leaving the Aspa reservoir, Asker continued to the next location.

There were five people in the team. The bloodline paths and potion formulas of the other four had been determined, but his own had not been revealed at all. No one asked for the time being because everyone subconsciously felt that with Asker’s knowledge, he must have already prepared the most suitable bloodline path and potion combination for himself.

And that was indeed the case.

The bloodline path Asker planned to choose was the same as the one he chose when he played the game in his previous life, called “Weapon Master,” an extraordinary path that was extremely good at combat. Weapon Masters could master the use of sharp weapons, blunt weapons, bows and crossbows, firearms, and shields. They were good at attacking, blocking, and dodging, could observe the surrounding environment and enemy information, design corresponding tactical plans, and also possessed strong combat intuition, able to anticipate upcoming dangers.

The first Sequence of this bloodline path was the cornerstone Sequence, Perfect Physique X. This Sequence potion would greatly improve the conversion efficiency of the extraordinary’s physical strength and mental strength. At the same time, all attributes, including explosive power, endurance, control, reaction speed, intelligence, and willpower, could be developed in a balanced and comprehensive manner.

For extraordinary beings, there were three most troublesome problems: first, figuring out the sequence combination order of the bloodline; second, obtaining the corresponding potion formula; and third, collecting the ingredients in the formula. If one was a member of an extraordinary family or organization, the first two were basically not a problem, and the third could also be exchanged and purchased within the family/organization. If one was a player, then none of that was a problem, as any problem that could be solved with RMB was not a problem.

Asker was not an RMB warrior in his previous life and could not smash through the entire bloodline path by waving red bills. Therefore, he could forget about other potion formulas, but he had to memorize all the Sequences of Weapon Master. The formula for the first potion, “Perfect Physique X,” was:

    -Ingredient-

    • One Humerus of a Gaul Orge

    • One Tendon of Fenrisulfr Wolf’s Hind leg

    • One Remnant of Phantom

    -Subsidiary-

    • 20ml ethanol

    -Processing-
Thoroughly corrode the Humerus of the Gaul Orge and the Tendon of the Fenrisulfr Wolf’s Hind leg with the Remnant of Phantom, add anhydrous ethanol and stir well, let stand for 24 hours before drinking.

The ingredients in this formula were more troublesome. Gaul Orges lived in Inner Gaul and Outer Gaul, Fenrisulfr Wolves were on the northernmost tip of the Scandinavian peninsula in Navia, and Phantoms roamed the northern coast of the Southern Continent (from Cairo to Tunis). If he were to collect them all by himself, he would have to travel all over the world.

However, Asker knew of a shortcut.

The three most common cornerstone potions in the cornerstone Sequence were Strength X (increased explosive power and endurance), Agility X (increased control and reaction speed), and Intelligence X (increased intelligence and willpower). The corresponding main materials were exactly the Humerus of a Gaul Orge, the Tendon of a Fenrisulfr Wolf’s Hind leg, and the Remnant of a Phantom. Therefore, in theory, as long as one could obtain the potions or extraordinary characteristics of Strength X, Agility X, and Intelligence X, they could replace the main materials of Perfect Physique X.

So where could one find the three cornerstone potions? Constantinople. As the Queen of Cities, Constantinople’s advantage lay here – it was the intersection of East and West trade, and it was also located in the intersection of the Northern, Eastern, and Southern Continents. Coupled with its developed commerce and trade, almost everything in the world could be found here.

Asker slowly came to the slums of Constantinople, where most of the residents were poor migrants, such as Anatolians or Thracians, as well as Saxons and Jutes. Of course, there were also local gangs, which was a common problem in all cities with slums.

At the intersection of two nameless streets, Asker stopped in front of a stall, stared at the vendor’s goods for a long time, and suddenly sneered:

    “Heh, gene serum?”

“You are right, esteemed sir,” said the vendor, a Jute who looked like a profiteer, with a short mustache and his hands clasped together in a fawning smile. “This is the gene serum from the Solomon Church. Physique I can increase your strength and endurance, Physique II can increase your agility and reaction speed, and Mind I can increase your intelligence and willpower. What’s even more amazing is that after the scientific modulation of the priests of the Solomon Church, all gene serums do not have the risk of losing control that is characteristic of potions, so they can be taken repeatedly. The more you take, the stronger you will become.”

“Hehe.” Asker picked up a small bottle and shook the liquid inside.

He knew that it was not a gene serum at all. This profiteer named Herosoth had somehow obtained the potions of Strength X, Agility X, and Intelligence X. Instead of selling them properly, this guy was selling them by diluting the three cornerstone potions with water, under the guise of “gene serum,” and he didn’t know how many novice players he had deceived.

During the open beta, game guides were relatively scarce. A bottle of “gene serum” probably only contained a drop of potion, and the rest was tap water. After taking such a thing, one could only increase a little bit of extraordinary power and could not cause a qualitative change in extraordinary characteristics. However, novice players didn’t know this, so a large amount of players’ hard-earned money flowed into the pockets of this profiteer.

It wasn’t until a certain player guild killed this guy that the truth of the scam came to light.

    “How much?” Asker asked.

“10 pounds a bottle,” the profiteer said.

“Give me a bottle of Physique I.” Asker took out a banknote and gave it to him, then took a bottle of “Physique I” and drank it.

    “No reaction.” He asked knowingly.

“The gene serum doesn’t work that fast,” the profiteer said with a chuckle. “It needs to be digested by your stomach…”

Before he finished speaking, Asker had already drawn Aphrodite and pointed it at the profiteer’s forehead:

“Ten times the price if it’s fake, understand?” Asker said coldly. “100 pounds.”

“This…” The profiteer’s eyes rolled. He knew that the other party was not being fooled at all, but deliberately finding fault knowing that there was a problem with the potion. “I keep all my money at home, I didn’t bring it with me…”

Just waiting for you to say that! Asker thought to himself, and said, “Don’t even think about running away, I’ll go back with you to get it.”

Just waiting for you to say that! The profiteer also thought fiercely in his heart, and agreed repeatedly.

There were no police patrols in the slums, so Asker held the profiteer hostage with his gun against his lower back all the way to the profiteer’s house.

Asker opened the door with the key and saw five or six burly tattooed men sitting inside, looking at him with unkind eyes. At this time, the profiteer who was being held hostage skillfully rolled on the spot and shouted:

“Someone’s looking for trouble! Kill him…”

Before he could finish speaking, a blood flower bloomed on his body. Asker actually shot him accurately while he was rolling at high speed. The gangsters in the room immediately erupted, scrambling to draw their guns, but Asker shot and killed two of them first.

The remaining three gangsters finally pulled out their submachine guns and fired a volley of shots towards the door, only to realize that Asker had already flashed out of the door.

    “After him!”

A gangster with a gun rushed out of the door first, quickly scanning left and right, but did not find Asker. At this time, another scream came from behind him – it turned out that Asker had gone around to the side of the house and killed two more people through the window. The only remaining gangster was finally terrified and lost all courage to continue fighting, crawling and rolling towards the distant street.

Just as he was about to rush around the corner, a bullet pierced his back of the head.

These gangsters were used to bullying the poor, so Asker had no psychological burden in killing them. He entered the profiteer’s house leisurely, skillfully rummaged through boxes and cabinets, and soon found a hidden compartment behind an oil painting on the wall of the study on the second floor.

There were three bottles of potion inside, the crimson one was Strength X, the dark blue one was Intelligence X, and the light green one was Agility X. Each bottle of potion seemed to have been used up by about one-third.

After the spiritual materials were made into potions, the extraordinary characteristics, once formed, could not be separated again. If a portion of the potion was poured out, as long as it did not exceed one-half, the extraordinary characteristics would remain in the original potion, but the extraordinary power would flow out.

In other words, there was no problem in using these three bottles of potion as the main materials for Perfect Physique X. However, the extraordinary power was estimated to be only two-thirds.

Asker put away the three bottles of potion and left the house, only to see a large group of armed thugs rushing over.

  • The Number One Good-for-Nothing in the Celestial Realm 5

    Chapter 5

What kind of person was Feng Chiyue? After spending over three hundred years together, how could she not know? Initially, she had kept Feng Chiyue by her side, thinking that it wouldn’t hurt for her to be idle and carefree.

However, all the comfortable positions in the Celestial Court were already filled. The only remaining tasks were menial chores, and she couldn’t bear to see Feng Chiyue subjected to such drudgery. So, she had considered bringing her into the army. After all, she was a Celestial Immortal, a true Phoenix, and had grown up wild in the Abyss of the Milky Way. Surely, she could pass the Celestial Soldier assessment with her eyes closed, right? But to her surprise, while she had been resting with her eyes closed, Feng Chiyue had been “invited” out by a Celestial official.

The official’s face had been grim as he declared, “What Phoenix? I could train a goose from the mortal realm to be stronger than her in a few months!” From that day forward, nicknames like “Worse than a goose” and “Good-for-Nothing Beauty” had spread throughout the Celestial Court, completely shattering any chance of Feng Chiyue rising through the ranks of the Celestial Soldiers.

How could such a Celestial Immortal exist? At first, Ming Jiansu had suspected that Feng Chiyue was putting on an act. After all, when she had first ascended to the Celestial Realm, young and naive, she had been tricked into signing a two-hundred-year contract and had considered playing dead.

She had cultivated diligently in the mortal realm, aspiring to become superior, not an underling among Celestials. If she had known how dreadful the Celestial Court was, she wouldn’t have ascended at all. No, she had already endured countless troubles in the mortal realm.

She should have become a carefree wandering Immortal, even if it meant a life of solitude, poverty, and hardship. Unlike now, where she was neither rich nor free from suffering.

Fueled by suspicion, she had decided to test Feng Chiyue. After several attempts, she became convinced that Feng Chiyue was not pretending. The final test involved staging a break-in at a dilapidated courtyard and attacking Feng Chiyue relentlessly. In the face of death, even the most skilled deceiver would reveal their true colors. But to her surprise, Feng Chiyue had remained nonchalant throughout the ordeal.

Unable to stop herself in time, she had severely injured Feng Chiyue, and it had taken almost all her savings to nurse her back to health. Yet, after learning the truth, Feng Chiyue hadn’t uttered a single word of blame. She had continued to cling to her as if nothing had happened. But the more forgiving Feng Chiyue was, the guiltier she felt. In the end, she had become completely wrapped around Feng Chiyue’s little finger.

Convinced of Feng Chiyue’s weakness, she had scoured countless Daoist texts, even risking the wrath of the Phoenixes, to find cultivation techniques suitable for her.

Although Feng Chiyue’s enthusiasm for cultivation was sporadic at best, she had managed to learn a few divine abilities. At the very least, she wouldn’t be ridiculed if she participated in the Celestial Soldier selection now. But even so, how could she possibly destroy the Supreme Palace’s alchemy furnace? Between refining elixirs herself and attacking the Supreme Palace, wouldn’t the former be the more logical choice?

Who had spread such baseless rumors, slandering Feng Chiyue? The Jingde Immortal Lord was thousands of years old. How could he resort to such petty lies? How dare they bully Feng Chiyue, her junior sister? Anger surged within her.

For a moment, Ming Jiansu wanted to abandon the Asura City and return to the Celestial Realm immediately! But then she thought of the hardships and injustices she had endured, of Feng Chiyue’s heartless nature, and she forced herself to calm down.

Ming Yuheng was there. She would help smooth things over. It was just the Supreme Palace spreading rumors about her junior sister. It wasn’t worth her concern. She couldn’t forget the vow she had made before ascending. She had ascended to enjoy a life of bliss. After three hundred years, she had finally made up her mind. How could she let a petty, ungrateful brat ruin everything?

    Back in the Supreme Palace:

The Jingde Immortal Lord was fuming. The destroyed hall had been restored to its former glory with his celestial energy, but the more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He couldn’t swallow his pride. He had been born a Celestial, and after surpassing all his fellow disciples five hundred years ago, he had become the head of the Supreme Palace. Who dared to show him anything but a smiling face? Who dared to address him without respect? Who dared to cause trouble in the Supreme Palace?

Feng Chiyue! That damned Feng Chiyue! Hatred burned in his heart, his nails digging into his palms. He stood up abruptly, summoned his celestial chariot, and headed straight for the Purple Extremity Palace at the heart of the Celestial Court, where the Heavenly Empress, Chu Yi, resided.

Chu Yi had already received news of the incident at the Supreme Palace. Her beautiful eyes held a hint of skepticism. Feng Chiyue, with her lazy disposition, had destroyed the Supreme Palace’s alchemy furnace? It sounded more like a fabrication by the Supreme Palace.

“Your Highness, the Jingde Immortal Lord is here,” a maid announced softly.

Chu Yi picked up her jade ruler and parted the beaded curtain. As the beads clattered softly, she said nonchalantly, “Tell him I’m in seclusion.”

The maid hesitated for a moment before adding, “The Supreme Palace has stopped providing elixirs to Dong’e Mountain. They’re doing it for you.”

Chu Yi’s gaze turned cold. “Do I need them to fight my battles for me? That’s all the more reason not to see him.” If she sided with the Jingde Immortal Lord, wouldn’t that confirm the rumors of her mistreating Feng Chiyue? What would the other Celestial officials and wandering Immortals think of her, the Heavenly Empress? She might have her differences with Feng Chiyue, but she would never resort to such underhanded tactics. Whether it was an argument or a duel, she preferred to confront her opponents directly.

Rejected at the door, the Jingde Immortal Lord’s anger intensified. His gaze swept across the grand palace, and on impulse, he turned towards the Purple Extremity Hall, where the Heavenly Emperor resided, to lodge a complaint.

Melodious music filled the air as Tian Yuan enjoyed a performance with his officials. When he heard that the Jingde Immortal Lord had something to report, his brow furrowed. He dismissed the musicians and dancers with a wave of his hand, straightened his robes and jade crown, and finally allowed the Jingde Immortal Lord to enter.

Lost in his world of music and entertainment, the Heavenly Emperor had no idea about the commotion at the Supreme Palace. Listening to the Jingde Immortal Lord’s aggrieved tone, he thought he had misheard.

Before he could inquire further, someone exclaimed, “Who is the Jingde Immortal Lord talking about? The Dong’e Mountain Lord’s junior sister? That good-for-nothing little Phoenix who was kicked out of her own clan?” A wave of laughter followed.

Before the Jingde Immortal Lord could respond, another voice drawled, “Has the Jingde Immortal Lord been drinking? What nonsense is this? If you said the Dong’e Mountain Lord herself had destroyed the Supreme Palace, we might believe you. But that one… Hahahaha.”

“I heard the Supreme Palace stopped providing elixirs to Dong’e Mountain for no reason. Are they trying to find a justifiable excuse now to save face?” A cool, amused voice rang out. The Jingde Immortal Lord looked up and saw the Lord of the North Star(Bei Chen Zhu) Ming Yuheng, holding a wine cup, a smirk playing on his lips. Ming Yuheng and Ming Jiansu had both ascended from the mortal realm and were close friends. It was only natural for him to speak up for Feng Chiyue.

Ignoring Ming Yuheng, the Jingde Immortal Lord bowed deeply to the Heavenly Emperor. “Your Majesty, I beg you to see through her deception!”

Tian Yuan stroked his wine cup and coughed lightly. “The Dong’e Mountain Lord was a hero of the Celestial Realm. Your actions, Jingde, are disheartening.”

The Jingde Immortal Lord: “…” He had been taught a lesson by Feng Chiyue, his body still aching despite consuming healing elixirs. Yet, no one believed his accusations!

He sensed something strange in the gazes of the other Celestial officials, a hint of mockery, as if they were enjoying his humiliation. How had he fallen so low? His hands clenched into fists inside his sleeves. He looked up at the Heavenly Emperor, his voice sharp. “Your Majesty, do you not believe me?”

    Tian Yuan averted his gaze.

Ming Yuheng chuckled softly. “Has the Jingde Immortal Lord taken leave of his senses?”

Just as the Jingde Immortal Lord was about to retort, a deep voice boomed through the hall.

    “Jingde.”

The Jingde Immortal Lord froze. He slowly raised his head and saw his master, the Si Lu Star Lord, emerging from the swirling clouds. His master’s expression was grave, his eyes filled with disappointment. If he continued, he would only bring shame upon his master. Despite his resentment, the Jingde Immortal Lord could only bite his lip and force himself to back down.

    Meanwhile

Zhu Wan, who had been anxiously awaiting her fate, finally received news from a friendly Celestial official. The official recounted the Jingde Immortal Lord’s humiliation in vivid detail. Listening to the story,

Zhu Wan couldn’t help but feel that it wasn’t a big deal. The Jingde Immortal Lord acting like a dog to receive elixirs—that would have been truly embarrassing. In the entire Celestial Realm, only the Jingde Immortal Lord would receive such “treatment.”

“Tell me honestly, did Master Feng really beat up the Jingde Immortal Lord?” the official asked curiously.

Zhu Wan replied righteously, “How could that be? You know what Master Feng is like: delicate, frail, weak…”

“Stop!” The official cut her off, glancing at her. “I believe you. But your description is a bit much. Do you think I’ve never seen Master Feng?” With her bright eyes, white teeth, and radiant beauty, how could she possibly resemble the sickly person Zhu Wan described?

Zhu Wan felt like she was floating on clouds. As soon as they returned to Dong’e Mountain, she rushed to share the good news with Feng Chiyue. She had witnessed Feng Chiyue’s display of power and had been worried. It hadn’t occurred to her that Feng Chiyue’s reputation as a “good-for-nothing” would work in their favor. Even if the Jingde Immortal Lord filed a complaint, no one would believe him! What a turn of events! They no longer had to face the cold scrutiny of the Celestial Pivot Department. However, they still had to be wary of the Heavenly Prosperity Department.

“Master, did you hear?” Zhu Wan exclaimed, her face beaming with excitement. But after her animated retelling, the person she was addressing didn’t even spare her a glance, too engrossed in fiddling with an ugly, square, black box. Zhu Wan recognized the box. It was a magical artifact her master had refined long ago, with an elegant name: “Understanding Words.” It was neither offensive nor defensive, merely a child’s toy.

Feng Chiyue, with her love for all things luxurious and extravagant, had always baffled Zhu Wan with her inexplicable attachment to this black box that no one would even bother picking up if they saw it on the street.

Finally, Feng Chiyue looked up at Zhu Wan, her brow furrowed, the usual smile absent from her face. Clutching the black box, she said with frustration, “It’s broken.”

Seeing the beauty’s troubled expression, Zhu Wan felt a pang of sympathy. But she quickly snapped out of it, exhaling deeply.

This was Feng Chiyue, after all. What was there to pity?

“Should I try to fix it?” Zhu Wan offered tentatively.

Feng Chiyue glanced at her, her eyes filled with disdain. “Do you even know how?”

Zhu Wan: “…” Right. She didn’t.
