Chapter 89: If I Said It Was Me, Would You Believe It?
It was the familiar feeling again.
A soft, fragrant, and fluffy little fox burying herself in his arms, small enough to be held with one hand.
Like a cuddly pet waiting for him to come home.
As he stroked Luo Luo’s soft and adorable fox ears, Chen Yin felt a warmth spread through his heart. A gentle smile appeared on his face.
“Good girl, Luo Luo. Have you been behaving yourself these past few days?”
“Luo Luo has been listening to Young Master’s words.”
The little fox clung to Chen Yin like a cherished toy, her round and soft cheek rubbing against his chest contentedly. “Young Master told Luo Luo to wait patiently, so Luo Luo didn’t wander off anywhere. I stayed in the room and took care of Ya Ya and the others.”
“And I listened to Sister Qingying too.”
Chen Yin chuckled awkwardly. “You don’t have to listen to her.”
As he spoke, a cold and aloof voice came from behind the door:
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
A tall and elegant figure emerged. Qingying, her eyes as cold as frost, glanced at Chen Yin and snorted disdainfully. “Is it beneath you to listen to me?”
“She’s my servant, why should she listen to you?”
Chen Yin retorted without hesitation, then ruffled Luo Luo’s head and walked over to the bed.
Several frail little foxes were lying on the bed. They all perked up when they saw Chen Yin and gathered around him excitedly.
“Brother Chen!” Their sweet voices chirped in unison.
Chen Yin patted each of the adorable little foxes and asked softly, “How are you feeling?”
“Thanks to Brother Chen.” Ya Ya’s face was still pale, but a hint of color had returned, and her body wasn’t as skeletal as before. “Sister Nan said we can get out of bed and walk around now!”
“Their meridians are still a bit weak.” Nan Xiaoxiang said, her red lips parting slightly. “In a couple of days, once their meridians are mostly healed, we can start nourishing them with immortal pills.”
“They should recover quickly after that.”
“That’s good to hear.” Chen Yin was relieved. He bowed towards Nan Xiaoxiang. “Thank you, Miss Nan.”
Nan Xiaoxiang simply glanced at him briefly, then looked away.
“As a physician, it’s my duty.”
“But I hope that next time you need someone’s help, Immortal, you’ll be a little less frivolous.”
Faced with her subtle jab, Chen Yin could only scratch his head awkwardly.
…He couldn’t afford to offend her while he still needed her help.
“Please continue catching up, Immortal. I have other patients to attend to. I’ll excuse myself.”
Nan Xiaoxiang bowed gracefully and left the room.
Qingying also glanced at Chen Yin coldly before disappearing behind the door.
At the table, the little foxes were happily munching on candy.
“Luo Luo, what are your plans now?”
Luo Luo, her eyes shining with delight as she savored the surprisingly delicious bubblegum, froze at Chen Yin’s question.
“I…”
She turned her head, her ears drooping sadly. “I don’t know.”
“I ran away to rescue Ya Ya and the others.”
“Now that they’re safe, I don’t know what to do anymore…”
“In that case,” Chen Yin said, “why not take Ya Ya and the others back home?”
“You’ve been away for so long, your mother must be worried sick.”
Luo Luo glanced at Chen Yin timidly, then pouted.
“B-but if I go back, my mother probably won’t let me leave the city again.”
“Wouldn’t it be better to stay home and spend time with your mother?”
“But! Luo Luo doesn’t want to stay at home all the time.”
She tugged at Chen Yin’s sleeve, her eyes watery and pleading.
“Luo Luo doesn’t want to leave Young Master.” She sounded like a heartbroken child.
Chen Yin was silent for a moment, then placed his hand on her head.
“…We can’t let our families worry.”
He said softly, “It’s a blessing to have someone who worries about you.”
“It’s… something to be envied.”
Luo Luo looked up at him.
Her eyes were like embers in a burnt-out forest.
She wagged her tail thoughtfully, then said softly, “Th-then okay.”
“I’ll take Ya Ya and the others back first and let my mother know we’re safe. Then I’ll try to persuade her to let me come back and find Young Master.”
“You can try to persuade her, but don’t argue with her over this, okay?” He leaned down and gently flicked her nose. “If it doesn’t work out, I can always come visit you.”
“Mmm.”
Luo Luo covered her nose, winking at him with one eye. Her cheeks were flushed, but her eyes were bright.
“Then, if Luo Luo is a good girl, does Young Master have a reward for me?”
“Isn’t this bubblegum enough?”
“This is for this time. Next time is a different matter.”
Chen Yin thought for a moment, then reached into his pocket, his consciousness entering the System Shop within the scroll.
After searching for a while, he pulled out a bag of something Luo Luo had never seen before.
“This is…” Luo Luo stared at the shiny, jiggly things in the bag, her fox ears twitching curiously.
“This is called jelly. It’s also very delicious.”
Chen Yin smiled and placed the jelly in Luo Luo’s hands. “If you’re a good girl, I’ll bring you more delicious things next time I visit.”
Luo Luo held the bag of jelly, her eyes sparkling with delight, and nodded eagerly.
“Okay!”
“Ah! Brother Chen is playing favorites! We want some too!”
“Me too, me too!”
Suddenly, the other little foxes all rushed towards Chen Yin, some hugging his waist, some tugging at his clothes, and some even jumping on his back, wrapping their arms around his neck, their soft bodies pressed against him.
Their sweet, pleading voices filled the air, melting Chen Yin’s heart.
He felt like he was in a cat cafe, a dog shelter, or a kindergarten, surrounded by adorable creatures. His eyes softened.
“Haha, don’t worry, don’t worry, there’s enough for everyone.”
As Chen Yin was surrounded by the little foxes, Luo Luo opened the jelly packet and popped a piece into her mouth.
The smooth, sweet, and jiggly texture instantly won her over.
“So delicious…” She sighed contentedly.
The System, however, sounded a bit confused. “Eh? That’s strange.”
“This thing… I feel like I’ve seen it somewhere before.”
“In the System Shop?”
But then it shook its head, dismissing the thought. “Forget it. There are so many things in the System Shop, who can remember every little item?”
Luo Luo, seemingly oblivious, continued to devour the jelly.
After finally appeasing the little foxes and leaving the room, Chen Yin let out a sigh of relief, wiping the sweat from his brow.
“Whew… Children are truly full of energy.”
“Heh, you seem to be enjoying yourself.” A cold voice said sarcastically.
Chen Yin turned to her with a helpless expression. “Seriously, stop being so sarcastic. Do you still want me to take you to the Azure Cicada Ancient Domain?”
Qingying turned her head away, her expression cold and aloof, her voice laced with resentment.
“Words are meaningless. I want to see action.”
“Instead of being stuck here babysitting.”
Chen Yin could hear the frustration in her voice and said casually, “I see you’re getting along quite well with them. You’re even letting them call you ‘Sister Qingying’.”
“Don’t tell me you’re actually a tsundere?”
Qingying frowned, too lazy to argue with him, and asked directly, “When are we leaving for the Azure Cicada Ancient Domain?”
“What’s the rush? We need to get Luo Luo and Ya Ya back home safely first.”
Chen Yin remained calm and composed.
“How long will that take?”
“I don’t know.”
“Are you messing with me?”
Qingying glared at him, a hint of anger in her eyes. “If you keep making excuses, it’s fine. Just tell me where my brother’s remains are, and I’ll go myself.”
Hearing this, Chen Yin sighed dramatically. “Oh dear… the Azure Cicada Ancient Domain is so vast, I can’t seem to remember. Where was it again…”
“You!”
Qingying was about to lash out when he said playfully, “But with your current strength, you probably wouldn’t even survive long enough to find your brother’s remains.”
“Since you have nowhere else to go, just stick with me.”
After all, she was a free and eye-catching bodyguard. As a member of the secret division, Qingying was quite skilled at handling various matters.
It would be a waste not to utilize her skills. Chen Yin wasn’t a charity.
“You just said I have nowhere to go… what do you mean?”
“Haven’t you heard?”
“About the Mist Spirit Sect, I have heard some rumors…” Qingying asked suspiciously, “Is it true that the Mist Spirit Sect was attacked and massacred?”
“Massacred might be an exaggeration. But the sect’s leadership and your secret division members are probably all gone.” Chen Yin said seriously, stroking his chin.
Qingying didn’t seem particularly surprised. She simply asked, “I’m curious who could have done such a thing.”
“Who do you think it was?”
“Immortal Yu Ling?”
“What if I said it was me, would you believe it?” Chen Yin looked at her expectantly.
Qingying just stared at him blankly, as if he were a clown.
“Alright, you guessed it.”
Chen Yin chuckled and shrugged. “I was the one who instigated my Master to do it.”
“It’s so convenient having an invincible Master. I don’t have to do anything myself. If I don’t like someone, I just ask Master to eliminate them. Even our own main sect is no exception.”
Qingying couldn’t help but retort sarcastically, “You’re truly blessed to have Immortal Yu Ling as your Master.”
“That’s true.”
Chen Yin smiled, a hint of tenderness hidden in his eyes.
“If only that old loli granny wouldn’t make me worry so much, it would be even more of a blessing.”
