Chapter 15
Lin Ye, stung by the taunt, glared at Bo Chi.
Seeing Bo Chi’s radiant complexion, seemingly thriving after no longer pursuing him, he felt a surge of unbalanced anger. “None of your business! Call Yu Zhao out!”
Bo Chi was genuinely curious about his disheveled appearance. According to the plot, the male lead should have already hooked up with the married teacher, the haughty policewoman, and the naive heiress trio, completely ignoring the aloof school beauty. Why was he here, specifically blocking their car?
And he looked even poorer than before… He wasn’t even wearing the new clothes he’d bought recently, instead sporting his all-purpose school uniform.
Bo Chi’s interest was piqued. “Tell me what happened to you recently, and I might be kind enough to call Yu Zhao down for you.”
Lin Ye hesitated, then gritted his teeth and said angrily, “It’s all because of you two! If you hadn’t chased me out of the hospital last time, would I have almost been hit by a car because I wasn’t looking where I was going? When the driver got out of the car, I thought all rich people were as malicious as you, so I ran away, afraid he’d ask for money. If I had known he was just checking if I was okay, I could have extorted a hefty sum from him! Instead, I got nothing, and that new teacher who happened to be passing by saw the whole thing!”
Bo Chi thought for a moment, connecting the “new teacher” with the married teacher. She then asked curiously, “And then?”
Lin Ye grumbled, “Haven’t you been checking the class group chat? She’s been targeting me! Always picking on me during random selections. I asked her why, and she actually said I had bad character?? Even worse, that driver who almost hit me was driving his young mistress. When she saw me run, the new teacher thought I’d done something wrong. They talked for a bit, and now that young mistress is completely smitten with the new teacher, coming to our school every day and constantly mocking me!”
“She looks so young, like a minor, yet she has no sympathy at all.” Lin Ye concluded, fuming. “You rich people are all naturally wicked!”
Bo Chi, who’d been struggling to contain her laughter, finally burst out, “Yes, yes, we’re wicked, malicious, and rich! Are you angry? Hmm? Angry?”
Lin Ye’s blood pressure spiked, his face turning red. He glared at Bo Chi for several seconds, forcing out through gritted teeth, “Y-You—I’ve told you everything. Call Yu Zhao out! I need to talk to her alone!”
Bo Chi discreetly took two steps back, ensuring her bodyguards were right behind her, before saying sweetly, “What are you thinking? I already said I’m malicious. Did you really think I’d keep my word?”
Lin Ye’s eyes widened. He spluttered, too angry to form a coherent sentence.
Bo Chi casually twirled a strand of hair. “Anyway, with me around, you can forget about seeing her. If you really have something important to say, you might as well tell me. Maybe if I’m in a good mood, I’ll be merciful enough to pass on the message.”
Lin Ye’s chest heaved. He struggled to control his anger. “Is the gossip in the group chat true? Is Yu Zhao marrying into your family? Is she selling herself just because her mother is sick?”
“The way you put it…” Bo Chi said coldly, “…makes it sound like you don’t have a mother.”
Lin Ye exploded. “Don’t change the subject! How old is her mother anyway? She doesn’t have many years left. Why should Yu Zhao sell herself to fill that bottomless pit of a hospital bill?”
Suddenly, he became suspicious. “Actually, she doesn’t want to save her mother at all, does she? She’s just a gold digger, using this as an opportunity to be with a rich guy, right? She was always cold and distant towards me because she thought I was poor, right!”
Bo Chi, unwilling to hear him slander Yu Zhao, retorted, “You are poor, but the rest is false. Yu Zhao signed an agreement with my brother. Our family will cover all of her mother’s medical expenses, and in return, she will—”
“Marry you.”
Yu Zhao’s voice suddenly rang out, stunning both Lin Ye and Bo Chi. After a long moment, Bo Chi turned around incredulously and rushed over to Yu Zhao, who had just gotten out of the car, whispering, “What nonsense are you spouting?!”
Yu Zhao patted her head, whispering back, “Calling each other ‘brother’ and ‘sister-in-law’ is just our private joke. We can’t do that in public.”
Bo Chi: “???”
Who was joking with her?
What joke?
Yu Zhao chuckled, pinching her cheek, then naturally took her hand and walked towards Lin Ye, her voice turning cold. “I recall telling you at the hospital that my affairs are none of your business. Lin, please don’t come looking for me again. You’re not welcome.”
Lin Ye was still in a daze, staring at their intertwined hands, feeling his world turn upside down. “You’re marrying Bo Chi, not Bo Ji? How is that possible… You’re both women!”
Yu Zhao replied calmly, “Before I fell for her, I never thought I’d end up with a woman. But after meeting her, gender no longer mattered.”
Lin Ye looked outraged. “How can that be?! Women are born to bear children for men! Being together is a waste of resources!”
Even with her good upbringing, Yu Zhao couldn’t help but feel disgusted.
She didn’t bother wasting any more words on him, turning to Bo Chi and coaxing gently, “It’s getting late. Let’s go pick up Mom and Dad.”
Bo Chi gave Lin Ye the middle finger, nodding. “Let’s go. Don’t waste your breath on this stallion with his patriarchal views.”
The two turned and got back into the car. Lin Ye yelled after them, his face red with anger, as if his girlfriend had just cheated on him.
But in reality, Bo Chi and Yu Zhao had nothing to do with him.
A woman’s decisions, whether it was choosing not to marry or being with someone of the same sex, were her own business, unrelated to outsiders.
Yet, strangely, it was often these irrelevant people who reacted with the most outrage.
The car continued on its way, the windows slightly open, the breeze ruffling Bo Chi’s hair, mirroring her turbulent thoughts.
Before they reached the airport, she tugged at Yu Zhao, forcing a serious expression on her face as she asked, “Tell me clearly, who are you marrying?”
Yu Zhao sighed. “There’s no one else, only you, from beginning to end. I know you’re insecure and might think…”
Bo Chi didn’t hear the rest of her words. She remained in a daze for a long moment, then suddenly remembered the surprise Bo Ji had mentioned.
He had initially refused to tell her, and later, seeing her constantly with Yu Zhao, he hadn’t brought it up again. Bo Chi had long forgotten about it. Now, recalling it suddenly, she took out her phone, found Bo Ji’s contact, and typed: [What was the surprise you mentioned before?]
Bo Ji quickly replied: [You still don’t know? It’s Yu Zhao! Didn’t you like her a lot before? You changed after bullying her, bringing her breakfast every day and warning everyone to stay away from her. I’ve watched you grow up, and this is the first time I’ve seen you so devoted. To help you win the beauty’s heart, I used every trick I knew to make her your fiancée. See? Isn’t your brother the best in the world?]
Bo Chi typed a long string of ellipses, finally realizing, in a daze… Yu Zhao wasn’t her sister-in-law, but her wife!
Damn.
This was too ridiculous!
How had things escalated to this point?
Was it too late to call off the wedding?
Bo Chi’s thoughts were in disarray. She looked up at Yu Zhao.
Yu Zhao happened to look down at the same time. Meeting her gaze, she smiled slightly. “I’ve been practicing my cooking lately. What kind of food do your parents prefer? I’ll make them a meal sometime.”
Cooking… meal… the sweet and sour pork ribs interrupted by the actor… the threatening confinement…
Bo Chi shivered, swallowing her words about calling off the wedding. She said meekly, “Mom and Dad prefer lighter flavors. They don’t like food that’s too sweet or too salty. They always frown when we eat those, thinking it’s unhealthy.”
Yu Zhao hummed softly. “Then I’ll secretly make you a special dish of sweet and sour fish or sweet and sour pork.”
Bo Chi was silent for a moment, then added softly, “I also want hot pot… spicy broth.”
Yu Zhao stared at her for a long moment before sighing. “You can’t handle spicy food, and you have a sensitive stomach. You’re only allowed to have it a few times a month, and not too much each time.”
Bo Chi instantly brightened, happily hugging Yu Zhao’s arm, her smile sweet.
At that moment, Bo Chi sincerely felt that having Yu Zhao as her wife wasn’t so bad after all.
At least Yu Zhao was more gentle and indulged her more than her family did.
