Chapter 2: Water is Life
Of course, someone so beautiful would definitely have a boyfriend. Standing beside her was none other than Mr. Tall, Rich, and Handsome, who usually drove a Porsche 718.
“Let’s go, An Bai. We still have half a bucket of water at home. This rain won’t last long.”
Ding Feng said nonchalantly, comforting his girlfriend.
An Bai’s face was a little pale, but she still hummed in agreement, glanced at Tang Ze, and then went upstairs with her boyfriend.
Tang Ze smiled. “Even a voyeur has his pleasures.”
Back home, Tang Ze opened TikTok, only to find that it was shut down. All apps were closed except for WeChat.
The residents’ group chat was lively, filled with complaints and curses.
No one could sleep peacefully that night, hoping the rain outside would stop soon. However, the rain continued into the next day.
The third day, the fourth day, the fifth day, the sixth day.
The rain kept falling.
During these days, intermittent smashing sounds and screams could be heard in the dead of night.
This oppressive atmosphere could drive a person mad.
But Tang Ze didn’t step outside his door. He feasted on delicacies every day, waiting for the rain to stop and then finding a big villa to enjoy himself.
On the seventh day, Tang Ze decided to check out the underground parking garage. The entire complex’s material exchange was taking place there.
As the elevator doors opened, the clamor poured in. The entire underground parking garage was like a marketplace.
Women took out designer bags and cosmetics to exchange for food, while men offered designer watches and even their 4090TI graphics cards to exchange for water.
“Hermès summer collection, in exchange for a case of mineral water.”
“Rolex Submariner for four bottles of water, don’t miss out!”
Unexpectedly, the graphics card sold quickly, immediately exchanged for five bottles of mineral water and a small bag of chips.
Tang Ze sighed. That whole setup must have cost at least forty thousand yuan, and now it was exchanged for this.
For now, there was still normal trading, but in three more days, it probably wouldn’t be like this.
Suddenly, Tang Ze saw his streamer neighbor also setting up a stall to sell cosmetics. He took out a bottle of mineral water, drinking it as he walked over.
Sun Ting saw Tang Ze passing by, her expression a bit unnatural. This delivery guy must have a lot of food at home, but seeing Tang Ze drinking water, a longing grew in Sun Ting’s heart.
Soon, Tang Ze saw An Bai, the beautiful flight attendant, also setting up a stall. Due to her outstanding looks, there were naturally many people visiting her stall.
“Beautiful, sleep with me once, and this bottle of water is yours.”
“Heh, I’ll offer two bottles of water.”
“I’ll give three.”
The men started an auction, which made An Bai blush with anger.
“Shameless!”
An Bai cursed angrily, packed up her stall, and walked towards the elevators, even glaring at Tang Ze innocently.
One of the men scoffed, “Putting on airs. Over there in the red-light district, you can have one for a bottle of water.”
Red-light district?
Tang Ze looked around curiously. The so-called “red-light district” turned out to be an area by a warning light, where several scantily clad women stood, heavily made-up, and of questionable quality.
Suddenly, a burst of rapid footsteps echoed.
More than twenty young men appeared. The man in the lead had a fierce face and tattoos on his arms. The younger brothers behind him were also menacing, each holding steel pipes or even fruit knives.
This sudden scene silenced the area.
“Rob them all!”
As soon as the boss spoke, the younger brothers rushed forward with grins.
“Don’t steal my things!”
“You dare steal from me? You don’t want to live!
Ah!
My head!”
The boss chuckled, “Hand over your supplies and save yourselves the pain!”
“Is there no law anymore?!
Robbery in broad daylight!”
A man in his fifties stood up and shouted.
“Law?
I, Ding Feng, am the law! Break his legs!”
A crack echoed as the man’s bone broke, silencing everyone. Facing such ruthless people, no one dared to resist. They obediently handed over their supplies to avoid being beaten for nothing.
“Bring those women standing over there!”
Ding Feng looked at the red-light district with a playful smile. His younger brothers also laughed lewdly. Most people were terrified by the apocalypse, but these people reveled in it.
They came and went quickly. After they left, the men cursed and grumbled.
“We barely had any supplies, and they stole them all!
Why didn’t any of you fight back?”
“Why didn’t you fight back? Talking big now.”
Mutual accusations began, and Tang Ze shook his head as he listened.
At this time, a gentle-looking man wearing glasses stepped forward and said, “There’s a rolling shutter door between each building. I suggest we seal off our building to avoid being plundered again. Even if we need to exchange supplies, we can do it through the gap in the shutter.”
The man’s words immediately gained approval. Without a word, everyone pulled down the surrounding rolling shutters and secured them with metal bars.
People in the other buildings saw this, their eyes lit up, and immediately followed suit.
The five buildings in the complex were immediately separated.
“I have another suggestion. The men should unite, search for supplies, and be able to resist those thugs.”
The man with glasses seemed to have leadership qualities, and immediately gained support.
But Tang Ze had no interest in working for others. It was the apocalypse, why work?
Crazy.
Returning to his own floor, Tang Ze saw the streamer, Sun Ting, squatting by her door. He teased, “So you were hiding.”
Although this streamer wasn’t as beautiful as the flight attendant, she was still attractive.
Sun Ting wasn’t stupid. When she saw those men appear, she immediately ran into the emergency stairwell and came up the stairs.
Seeing Tang Ze’s amused expression, Sun Ting snorted and then asked, “Do you have any water left?”
“Whether I have water or not, what does it have to do with you?”
Tang Ze leaned against his door, arms crossed, teasing her.
“Loser!”
With that, Sun Ting opened her door and slammed it shut.
Tang Ze couldn’t help but laugh. “I am a loser. Now that the apocalypse has arrived, I just want to survive. Let’s live and let live. I won’t bother you, and you don’t bother me.”
Three more days passed, and the rain still showed no sign of stopping. The five buildings had formed five factions and reached a certain agreement. A meeting was scheduled for that night in this building.
Tang Ze naturally had to attend. The location was the underground parking garage.
Tang Ze noticed that everyone looked much more haggard. An Bai’s lips were dry, and the streamer wasn’t much better off.
The man with glasses stood on a car hood with a megaphone. “Residents, my name is Dong Fei. I used to be a senior executive. Thank you for your trust in letting me lead.”
“The crisis has been going on for over a week now, and there’s been no rescue, no news from the authorities. Our supplies in Building Three are probably almost gone. Yesterday, someone from Building Four risked going out to scavenge for supplies. Although they lost one person, they at least got some food.”
Dong Fei’s words made everyone nod. They had seen it in the complex group chat yesterday. It was that Ding Feng who took his men out. They didn’t have tires, but they had wheel rims. It was just slower and a bit slippery. It was said that one of his men got a bit of rain on him, and then he was gone.
“So I suggest we also form a team to go out and search for supplies.”
However, after Dong Fei finished speaking, no one answered. After all, this was life-threatening work.
