Chapter 79: You Can Only Like Me (5)
The beast, noticing Jiang Zhiyan’s gaze, tried to cover its treasure with its body again, but the Demonic Sword, as if having gone mad, left numerous marks on the beast at an indiscernible speed, each strike with all its might.
A vortex formed around the Demonic Sword, absorbing the demonic aura in the surrounding area.
Jiang Zhiyan raised an eyebrow, stopped firing, and watched the Demonic Sword’s movements.
“The Demonic Sword is this powerful?” Jiang Zhiyan was a little surprised; it was much more powerful than she had imagined.
“You’ve triggered its competitive spirit,” the System commented. “As expected of the Demon Lord’s sword, its desire to win is so strong.”
“Is this the Demon Lord’s sword technique?” Jiang Zhiyan moved slightly in the air to avoid being accidentally injured.
“It should be,” the System said.
Jiang Zhiyan changed her angle to observe, silently memorizing the movements. The Demonic Sword itself was a sword, every strike imbued with sword intent, which materialized into a red entity, weaving into a large net due to its speed, and covering the beast.
Although the Demonic Sword was powerful, judging by the current situation, it could eventually wear down the beast, but the speed was too slow, Jiang Zhiyan didn’t have time to let it slowly kill the beast.
She aimed at the wounds the Demonic Sword had inflicted and fired a dozen shots in succession, blocking all escape routes, and finished it off.
The air was filled with the aroma of roasted meat, the flames on the demonic beast’s body still burning.
The Demonic Sword hovered in front of Jiang Zhiyan, defeated.
“That was very good,” Jiang Zhiyan said calmly. “My sword isn’t something just any sword can compare to, and I myself am very powerful.”
“Me.”
“Keep working hard, it’s fine if you can’t compare, swords don’t develop inner demons, but I don’t want you to break.” Jiang Zhiyan paused, then continued, “But you shouldn’t be that fragile, right?”
Demonic Sword: !!!
“Host, are you comforting it or provoking it?” the System asked, puzzled.
Although the Demonic Sword didn’t have a face, so she couldn’t see its expression, she could sense its emotions, it felt like it was at a disadvantage because of its halting speech. The Demonic Sword felt aggrieved, it had thought that displaying these moves would impress Jiang Zhiyan, but the other party had clearly seen more of the world.
No wonder this woman wasn’t impressed by the Demonic Sword at all.
Damn it.
The Demonic Sword felt like all those years buried underground were a waste, it was all the previous owner’s fault, being so easily suppressed.
Jiang Zhiyan put away the Demonic Sword, cleared the demonic aura it left behind, sprinkled some powder on the demonic beast’s corpse, and after watching it begin to decompose, she let Su Huo in.
Su Huo looked at the mountain-like demonic beast on the ground, then at Jiang Zhiyan, covering her nose and mouth: “Are… are you injured?”
“No,” Jiang Zhiyan took two pills. “Let’s go down, we have three days to finish this and go back.”
Jiang Zhiyan took out a pile of mining tools she bought from the black market from her storage pouch and gave them to Su Huo, along with ten storage pouches.
“You don’t mean for me to fill all of these, do you?” Su Huo was shocked. She checked the size of the storage pouches and gasped.
“Yes, I’ve modified these tools based on the characteristics of Star River Ore, they’re much more effective than ordinary tools, so it won’t be too difficult.” Jiang Zhiyan took out the remaining storage pouches. “I’ll be taking more than you.”
“Since it’s something you need, it’s only right that you take more,” Su Huo said, looking at the runes and strange things on the tools, not quite understanding, but judging by their shape, they should be used in the same way she understood.
“Has this place been mined before?” Su Huo looked into the pit, which was pitch black and terrifying.
“It was probably dug by this demonic beast, if it weren’t for this pit, we would have wasted a lot of time,” Jiang Zhiyan said, jumping down first.
Su Huo wanted to curse, but restrained herself.
What kind of lunatic was this, jumping down so casually? She thought Jiang Zhiyan would at least use her divine sense to check first.
She waited at the edge of the pit for a long time, but Jiang Zhiyan didn’t say anything.
“Is it safe down there?” Su Huo shouted down.
“It’s safe.”
“Did you land?” Su Huo continued to ask.
“I landed.”
Su Huo took a deep breath, mustered her courage, and jumped down.
“Ahhhhhhh!” Su Huo screamed. “It’s so high! Ahhhhhh!”
Su Huo fell freely. If Jiang Zhiyan hadn’t caught her with her sword, she felt like she might have broken her neck.
“Damn it.” Su Huo couldn’t hold back anymore. She looked at Jiang Zhiyan, wanting to complain, then saw that the other party had already dug out a pile of things, using her own sword.
“Don’t you Sword Cultivators say swords are very important?” Su Huo was puzzled.
“They are important,” Jiang Zhiyan agreed. “But time is more important right now, so I suggest you hurry up, we’re not leaving until we finish mining, and if anyone comes, my barrier can only buy us some time.”
“Damn it,” Su Huo felt like she had boarded a pirate ship. “I would rather have died earlier, so how much do you need?”
“The more the better.”
“Obviously,” Su Huo said, speechless.
Jiang Zhiyan didn’t say anything more and focused on mining, putting everything she could into the storage pouches. She planned to process them later after they left.
Su Huo had never done such strenuous work in her life.
“Why can’t you hire someone to do this since you’re so rich? There are plenty of people willing to do this kind of work,” Su Huo raised her hoe and slammed it down hard, taking three strikes to chisel off a piece of ore. The runes on the hoe activated when she used force, she suspected that if she used an ordinary hoe, she would have to strike hundreds of times.
“I brought you here because I trust you,” Jiang Zhiyan said. It wasn’t that she trusted Su Huo, but rather the character setting. “Other people…”
Su Huo wasn’t interested in how she found this place or how she killed the demonic beast, she hadn’t gone over to examine the sword marks when she entered, but other people might investigate, and if they did, there might be trouble.
She had also considered finding other people, but Jiang Zhiyan felt like she might not be able to resist killing them when they left.
That would be too troublesome.
Su Huo worked for a while, then rested, while Jiang Zhiyan had been working continuously for several hours, showing no signs of stopping. She had already filled six storage pouches and still had a pile of unprocessed ore beside her.
“Aren’t you tired? There’s no spiritual energy here,” Su Huo looked at Jiang Zhiyan. “Your recovery is too slow.”
“The pills I gave you are enough,” Jiang Zhiyan said, without looking up. “I have more if you run out, don’t save them.”
Su Huo got up again: “It is enough, but the demonic aura here still makes me very uncomfortable, I can’t compare to you, I’m just useless.”
“Help me mine properly, and I’ll give you a reward after we leave,” Jiang Zhiyan said.
“Hahaha,” Su Huo gave three dry laughs. “I’m not someone who’s easily swayed by money, and we’re friends, a reward or something…”
“You can take a bag and sell it, the money will be enough for you to pay off your debts and splurge for a while.”
Su Huo looked at Jiang Zhiyan and raised her hoe: “The border is under martial law now, I can only sell it later, if I sell it now, I’ll definitely be targeted.”
“It won’t be a problem, after I finish refining the sword, it’ll all be my responsibility, nothing to do with you.”
Jiang Zhiyan paused and frowned, looking in a certain direction.
“Speaking of which, is it really okay for us to just randomly dig like this? What if it collapses?” Su Huo looked up. “If it collapses, will we be able to get out?”
Jiang Zhiyan didn’t speak, just put the smaller storage pouches into the larger ones and put them away.
Su Huo: ?
Su Huo looked at Jiang Zhiyan, puzzled. Before she could react, she saw Jiang Zhiyan fly past her and slash at the darkness with her sword.
The sound of metal clashing came from the distance, stopping after two or three strikes, but even with just those few strikes, Su Huo felt the ground shake.
“There’s someone else here?” Su Huo quickly retreated, not forgetting to take her spoils with her, it wouldn’t be good if she lost even this little bit.
She took out her weapon – a light pink ribbon. Su Huo nervously stared into the unknown depths, regretting coming to the Demon Realm to try her luck, she definitely couldn’t defeat anything that could survive in this place.
“Do you need help?”
Su Huo asked nervously, she couldn’t see what was happening over there, although she was a cultivator, her cultivation level wasn’t high enough to penetrate the thick demonic aura.
“It’s fine,” Jiang Zhiyan said, looking down at the corpse at her feet and squatting down. “Just a corpse.”
“A reanimated corpse?” Su Huo asked, relieved.
“Who knows, maybe it’s the effect of the demonic aura,” Jiang Zhiyan examined it carefully. “Is there anything special about this person?”
“Yes… you just randomly killed a future mini-boss,” the System said, feeling weary.
“A human, not even a demon cultivator,” Jiang Zhiyan said thoughtfully, applying a bit of force with her hand, the corpse quickly turning into ashes. “He seems to have been here for a long time.”
“Because he’s a half-demon, he was here to awaken his demonic bloodline,” the System explained.
Jiang Zhiyan remembered who he was, this person would later stab Song Jin’yue twice. Her gaze turned colder: “He’s dead, so be it, the Demonic Sword has already appeared, a mini-boss dying isn’t a big deal, and who told him to run into me? I didn’t intend to kill him.”
She moved her foot, looked at the ashes on the ground, and turned to leave.
Su Huo, clutching her ribbon, her body still stiff, only relaxed after seeing that it was Jiang Zhiyan who came out.
“It’s fine, let’s hurry up and dig, there’s a passage over there, who knows what else might come out,” Jiang Zhiyan said.
“Huh?” Su Huo cursed inwardly.
Perhaps the sudden appearance of the corpse made Su Huo truly feel threatened, she suddenly became full of energy, but it still took her five days to fill the ten storage pouches, two whole days over the three-day limit.
But thankfully, there was no sense of time in this dark place, so Su Huo, who didn’t have a system, didn’t realize she had worked overtime, after all, mining always felt like an eternity.
“I feel like your mood has been getting worse these past few days,” Su Huo observed Jiang Zhiyan secretly.
“Mm.”
Jiang Zhiyan’s mood was indeed bad. Song Jin’yue had only contacted her once after she left, asking about dinner, and hadn’t contacted her since.
She checked Song Jin’yue’s situation every day, and clearly, whether she was there or not made no difference to her. She seemed to be living quite comfortably now, sometimes even humming, Jiang Zhiyan had been worried that she would be lonely, but now she felt like she could stay outside for another month without any problems.
“She probably doesn’t want me to go back,” Jiang Zhiyan said.
“Don’t think that way, most students don’t want to go back to school after the holidays,” the System drawled. “It’s normal, who can stand constant pop quizzes?”
Jiang Zhiyan checked the storage pouches, mentally calculating, figuring they should have enough: “How’s the situation outside the barrier? Has anyone discovered us?”
“Some demons passed by, but they didn’t pay much attention,” the System paused. “Or maybe they did and are waiting for you to come out.”
“Is there a difference between you saying it and not saying it?” Jiang Zhiyan said, speechless.
Su Huo originally wanted to say something, but noticing Jiang Zhiyan’s darkening expression, decided to keep quiet, she sensed danger from Jiang Zhiyan.
“Here,” Jiang Zhiyan took out a magic weapon and handed it to Su Huo.
“What’s this?” Su Huo took it and quickly estimated its value in her mind.
“If there’s trouble outside, just leave directly and contact the people at the border to pick you up,” Jiang Zhiyan said. “This can withstand a full-powered attack from a Spirit Severing cultivator.”
“Then what about you?”
“I’ll be fine,” Jiang Zhiyan looked at Su Huo. “Don’t tell anyone what we did today after we leave.”
“Don’t worry, of course I won’t, what if they capture me and make me lead them here? I’m not that stupid.” Su Huo paused and interrupted Jiang Zhiyan. “You better stop talking, people who say these kinds of lines usually die, I’ve read too many stories like that.”
The two made their preparations. As soon as the barrier opened, Jiang Zhiyan grabbed Su Huo and flew out. Su Huo was mentally prepared this time and didn’t scream, but she was still scared.
There were indeed demons waiting outside, but they only saw a streak fly past, too fast to see clearly, and then it disappeared without a trace, not even its aura remained. They roared in frustration, scaring the resting demonic beasts nearby, which scattered and fled.
“Holy shit, I saw demons, on that hilltop over there,” Su Huo covered her mouth. “I can actually see that far now, after staying in the mine for so long, my eyesight has actually improved? Incredible.”
“Staying in such an environment is a form of training, it’s normal,” Jiang Zhiyan narrowed her eyes. “You should run away on your own.”
“What?” Su Huo looked up, puzzled. The next second, she was kicked off the sword. As she fell, she saw a giant hand grab Jiang Zhiyan.
Su Huo’s jaw dropped.
“Don’t let anyone come rescue me,” these were Jiang Zhiyan’s last words.
“Damn it, I told you… not to say those kinds of lines.” Su Huo wanted to follow, but after thinking for a second, decided to leave first. A weakling like her would only be a burden to Jiang Zhiyan. As for whether to find someone to rescue her, she still needed to think about it.
But she was puzzled, why wasn’t anyone chasing her?
Was she really that worthless?
