30. The Human Gathering at the Farm
Succubi were a rare race.
They were all female, with no country or organized groups. They often hid among humans and demons, fighting alone or serving the same demon lord. They excelled in mental manipulation, were physically weak, and possessed strong magical abilities.
And, unlike the common perception of creatures that absorbed yang energy…
Although they could also gain energy by absorbing mental and physical strength, it wasn’t a necessity, and they could eat normal demon food.
—These were Reina’s conclusions.
“Good evening, Lord Azure Scale. How many humans are we hunting tonight?”
Ann touched her lips, no longer resembling the devout nun of the past, and certainly no longer believing in the Goddess of Light.
Reina still had many things to tell her, including how to deal with humans, the puppet plan, and a series of future plans, but not now.
“Miss Ann is always hungry, isn’t she, Lord Azure Scale?” Fire said with a cheerful smile.
Reina felt a bit speechless, and chuckled awkwardly:
“The three of you, just call me by my name in private.”
“Okay, Big Sis!” Fire shouted, afraid Reina wouldn’t hear her.
“Lady Reina,” Ann nodded.
She stepped forward and greeted Reina like a devout nun, but also like a loyal demon subordinate bowing to her superior.
“Now, I’m truly grateful for your advice, Lady Reina.”
She admired her demonified body with immense satisfaction.
At the same time, Azure, who had been standing to the side, stepped forward and said:
“Lord Azure Scale, my sister told me that you are a trustworthy Big Sis, a loyal subordinate of the Dragon King, and a personal maid who shares the Dragon King’s bed.”
“Hey!” Fire exclaimed, both flustered and annoyed. “Sis, what…?”
Azure ignored Fire and walked straight up to Reina.
Seeing this, Ann immediately stopped Azure, her golden-black eyes seemingly able to pierce through anyone, her voice low:
“Is this how you treat Lady Reina’s trust?”
Azure also ignored her, tilting her body slightly and craning her neck forward, appearing somewhat clumsy.
“Lord Azure Scale, I saw your match with the Commander. Please spar with me as well.”
After she finished speaking, Fire couldn’t sit still any longer and said to Reina with a worried expression:
“Big Sis, please forgive my sister…”
“It’s fine,” Reina shook her head.
Seeing this, Ann stopped blocking Azure, letting her walk up to Reina, but still followed behind her, preventing any sudden moves.
Reina’s expression remained neutral: “I accept your challenge, but why do you want to do this?”
Azure’s eyes dimmed, and she looked away, recalling a sad past.
“Lord Azure Scale, thank you for your forgiveness. Everything I do is for my sister and me.”
“In the past, we trusted a hypocrite, causing great losses to the Dragon King and my sister.”
“I’m not good with words, but I’m well-versed in combat. I can see through the character of those I fight.”
Reina nodded, carefully examining Azure’s eyes, and said with a knowing smile:
“I accept this reason. I will spar with you after the mission. Now is not the time.”
Azure nodded in agreement. It was naturally best if the other party accepted her challenge.
Afterward, the group confirmed their hand signals and code words before setting off.
The goal of this operation was to apprehend the village chief.
Ann, as a succubus, had long hunted humans without revealing her demon identity. She used her human identity to successfully find clues about the village chief Donald, the suspicious orcish necklace, and the village chief’s hiding place.
It was a farm north of the village, an abandoned area overgrown with weeds and surrounded by a fence. Add in the dark night, the crimson full moon, and a few crows, and it was the perfect setting for Halloween.
But this time, Reina was playing the role of the ghost.
At exactly 7 o’clock, the four infiltrated the farm and discovered a large warehouse deep within, close to the forest—the sprawling branches and leaves provided the perfect camouflage, a natural protective layer.
If a zombie crisis were to occur, this would also be a good hiding place, Reina thought.
The four of them, clad in black cloaks, stood by the wall, blending into the night.
“I smell a lot of humans,” Fire Dragon, with her keen nose, said. “Just as Big Sis predicted, they’re all gathered together!”
Reina nodded.
They had been hunting humans for several days now, so they would naturally be on guard.
And, of course, they would all flee to what they considered a safe haven. Fear would also drive them together; it was human nature.
Reina gathered the three closer, forcing them to look at each other, and then she smiled:
“If we succeed this time, let’s have a celebratory feast, how about that?”
“Yay!” Fire Dragon jumped up happily. Eliminating humans was a simple task, and Big Sis wouldn’t disappoint her expectations.
“Aren’t there a bit too few people?” Ann said half-jokingly, seemingly confident.
“I think it’s best to be cautious,” Azure Dragon added.
Reina nodded: “Prioritize your own safety, understand?”
“Understood!”
The operation began.
Ann’s body was enveloped in black mist, and after a few seconds, she transformed into a human, her succubus features disappearing, reverting to her appearance before demonification.
The warehouse was about seven meters high, with a ventilation opening on the east wall, high up, for easy access.
Fire, Azure, and Reina climbed up the tree branches to the vent.
Suddenly, the warehouse door opened.
Two burly human men walked out. Dressed in black and wearing headscarves, they looked like bandits, carrying lanterns.
She had been so long without seeing human light sources that it felt somewhat strange.
Reina looked at Ann and gestured, and Ann understood.
“Hurry up and put out the light. Don’t you know demons are sensitive to light?”
“I don’t think it matters. The demons won’t find us anyway. This place is hidden. Would the Dragon King even care about a few small fries like us?”
“That makes sense…”
While they were talking, they didn’t notice a wisp of black mist slip through the slightly ajar door.
Azure leaped lightly and jumped to the vent above the warehouse. A man was standing guard there and instantly sensed the movement, preparing to ring the bell hanging on the wall.
Azure flicked her wrist, and two throwing knives accurately hit the rope holding the bell and the man’s throat, respectively. His body fell to the ground along with the bell.
Reina gently used [Gravity] to land silently.
The plan was perfect.
She jumped to the vent and looked down through the circular duct.
Inside the warehouse, a large number of humans were sitting around a weak light, like a group camping outdoors, but a dark shadow covered each of their faces.
About 50 people.
Most of the remaining humans in Wood Village were gathered here.
Some were gathered around a dim fire, discussing something. Others were resting in the corners, listless. As for Donald, he stood in the center of the crowd, constantly protected by his four trusted aides.
He was overweight, a typical middle-aged man with a paunch, but his arms, exposed beneath his vest, were incredibly thick, almost as thick as an average person’s thighs.
He was 195 centimeters tall and stood out in the crowd.
Suddenly, Ann, disguised as a human, looked up and made a hand signal.
Everything was proceeding according to plan.
Five seconds later, several humans in the corners stood up as if injected with adrenaline and shouted:
“Donald is a monster! He was colluding with the orcs, and now he’s demonified into a demon!”
“I saw him go to the church with my own eyes!”
“He’s no longer worthy of our trust!”
“What are you talking about? I never went…”
Village Chief Donald suddenly stood up, beads of cold sweat appearing on his forehead.
“You guys, don’t talk nonsense.”
One of Donald’s trusted aides stepped forward to refute the voices opposing Donald.
But more people were at a loss, completely clueless about the situation, restless upon hearing that there were demonified humans among them.
At this critical juncture, the dissenting voices added:
“I saw with my own eyes that someone was demonified in the church the other day. Who was it?”
Silence fell over the crowd.
Fear spread like a virus.
Reina, standing in the ventilation duct, saw everything.
This was a dead end.
If Donald didn’t explain clearly, then there was a possibility of a demon among the humans.
And if Donald openly declared that it was his daughter, Ann, then he would be labeled as a “leader who abandons his companions.” If he could abandon his own daughter, could he abandon other companions as well?
Indeed, Mr. Donald.
You thought the crowd was your best shield, so you even dug two escape routes among them. But you didn’t expect the enemy to have a succubus, skilled in manipulating hearts and creating chaos.
And you never expected that the succubus about to overthrow you would be your own daughter, did you?
