29. Making Amends
Reina didn’t stop the massage.
A question came to mind. Even if she had intended to appease the Dragon King with this opportunity, inadvertently using the method of admitting her mistake, she had ultimately misjudged the reason for Calysia’s anger.
It wasn’t that serious.
So, Reina said sincerely, “Master Calysia, I shouldn’t have been so cryptic. Please give me a chance to make amends.”
“Go ahead,” Calysia was curious.
“Actually, I’ve already investigated the human activity in Wood Village and have a general idea of their conspiracy. I just haven’t confirmed it yet. I believe that if I can accurately provide this information to you, I can redeem myself.”
“The humans and the Beast King… seem to be in contact.”
Calysia’s expression turned serious.
She had anticipated this, but she hadn’t expected it to happen so soon.
Reina’s tone was so formal, as if they weren’t in the living room getting a massage, but in the grand Dragon Palace.
She took a deep breath and continued: “Recently, Fire and I have found many humans in hiding. The evidence on them points to the Beast King.”
The Beast King represented a group of demons.
In this world, the demon race was ruled by four kings, but there were more than just four demon races.
The Beast King ruled over a group of ugly, incompletely humanoid beastmen, birds, and beasts.
This included goblins, orcs, trolls, and so on. And among the orcs, there were further subdivisions like lion-men, bear-men, and so forth.
Their numbers were vast, their combat and leadership abilities were average, and they constituted one of the main forces in the world.
Their king, the Beast King, an orc, was a powerful being comparable to the other Four Kings of the Realms. His strength couldn’t be underestimated.
“Go on,” Calysia was very interested in this information.
“We found a pendant belonging to a Beastman soldier captain in the village chief’s room. Wood Village is under the jurisdiction of the dragon race, but we can’t rule out the possibility that they successfully hunted a beastman.”
Calysia nodded: “But with their strength, could they really hunt a beastman?”
“That’s right.”
“Now we just need to find the village chief to find evidence of the beastmen,” Reina smiled. “Master Calysia, you don’t have to worry. As compensation, I will handle this perfectly on my own.”
Reina wasn’t lying.
The sudden appearance of these beastmen made her angry.
The humans in Wood Village were supposed to be her targets, and they could even become her subordinates, helping her gather more information about the human world.
But these humans seemed to have someone else to rely on.
—Someone had beaten her to it.
And the one who stole Reina’s ambition was actually a damned orc.
“Mm-hmm.” Calysia patted Reina’s head. “I believe in you, [Azure Scale New Moon].”
“Little Vassal, did you get all this information from Ann?”
“Yes, most of it,” Reina nodded in acknowledgment. “She retains her memories and sanity from her time as a human, as well as her determination for revenge. Therefore, I’ve appointed her as Fire Dragon’s subordinate.”
Calysia closed her eyes, having finished half of her latte.
“It seems she’s quite special.”
Reina was taken aback for a moment, then breathed a sigh of relief and tested the waters:
“Master Calysia, then can this make up for my mistake?”
“Don’t worry. If you handle this matter well, I’ll give you a reward.”
“Then what about the punishment?” Reina couldn’t believe Calysia was being so magnanimous.
Calysia smiled sweetly and said somewhat mysteriously:
“Haven’t I already given you your punishment?”
Reina nodded and stood up, resuming her maid duties, but despite her seemingly composed demeanor, she was confused.
The punishment, she’s already given it?
When…?
…
Good time management was an essential skill for a maid, and a sense of time was a necessary quality.
After dinner with Calysia, Reina began her plan.
As agreed, the elite Dragon Knights would gather at the church, and everyone would set off under the cover of night to subdue the Wood Village chief, whose guilt had been confirmed… Although there was no sunrise in this world, the moon during the “day” was still brighter.
All the way to the empty church, Reina felt a tightness in her chest.
“Is Ann special?”
Calysia’s words weighed heavily on her mind.
Yes, she had to admit, Ann was indeed special.
Like her, she was a human turned demon, and she retained her personality and all her previous memories. She would definitely become a remarkable subordinate.
She’s special…
Am I not special?
And, what did Calysia mean by saying that all the information came from Ann?
If it weren’t for her, Ann wouldn’t have betrayed humanity.
Calysia really was a dummy, a big dummy!
Why did Ann deserve Calysia’s appreciation, while she didn’t receive a single word of praise?
Damn it, unacceptable…
Reina suddenly realized that she was jealous of Ann, envious of the Dragon King’s praise for her.
Even though Calysia was actually a big dummy with low emotional intelligence!
“Why do I care so much, damn it.”
Lost in thought, Reina unconsciously placed one hand on her chest, the other clenched into a fist.
Suddenly, the church door opened.
The person who walked in was Fire.
Her long red hair was tied up, and she wore light armor and a black cloak, perfect for moving around at night.
Seeing Reina, she was a little surprised: “Lord Azure Scale, you’re already here!”
“Mm~”
Reina nodded seriously.
She adopted an “I’ve been waiting for you for a long time” demeanor, and she had indeed been waiting for 30 minutes.
She had heard that it was more prestigious for leaders to arrive a little late.
But Reina didn’t want to put on too many airs, and even deliberately waited a little longer.
Following Fire into the church was Azure.
She had slightly pale, dark blue shoulder-length hair, befitting her name “Azure Dragon.” Her attire was similar to Fire’s, but her personality was completely different.
She nodded slightly and then performed a standard knight’s salute.
“Good evening, Lord Azure Scale.”
“Sis, I told you there’s no need to be so formal!” Fire said anxiously.
“…” Azure didn’t reply.
It seemed she wasn’t an easy person to deal with.
A few days ago, after leaving the church, Reina had met this elite Dragon Knight, but they had only exchanged a glance from afar.
Two days ago, while on duty, Fire had told Reina about her sister.
Reina confirmed that she was absolutely trustworthy. The two sisters were united and seemed to share a special bond.
“Sister Azure is just shy. There’s no need to mind her, Lady Reina~”
“…”
Azure still didn’t speak.
Just then, another person walked in.
Reina’s gaze quickly shifted to the nun.
Her attire was similar to her usual clothes, but her skin was unnaturally pale, a sign of demonification. Not only that, but from the open back of her nun’s habit, bat-like wings and demonic horns sprouted, and a heart-shaped tail swayed back and forth, a stark contrast to her holy attire and the cross on her chest.
“Lord Azure Scale.”
Ann also nodded along with Azure, a confident smile on her face.
Her eyes were golden vertical slits with a black background, somewhat similar to a blood race’s.
There was no longer any trace of humanity on her.
She was a complete succubus.
