Chapter 231: Jie Luo Will Be So Happy
The former Hero Squad members formed a rescue team for Ronald. Eileen and Airi, the Twin Thieves, were experts in stealth, infiltration, assassination, and disabling traps. Sylph, the Ghost Archer, had exceptional senses and magical talent, capable of deciphering magical barriers and detecting traps. Though not as magically powerful as Athena, she was better suited for this mission.
They knew it was a trap. Logically, they should abandon Ronald. The Hero Squad had already suffered too many losses.
But Jie Luo’s soul fragment might be with him. This made him too valuable to lose. Besides, he was their comrade. They had to save him.
Could Ronald have anticipated this, deliberately not giving the soul fragment to Eileen so they would come for him? It was possible; he was cunning and wouldn’t have forgotten something so important.
Of course, they didn’t know he was already dead.
Loseweisse, with her impassioned speech about loyalty and the importance of the soul fragment, rallied the team. They seemed hopeful, their true intentions masked.
Then there was Muse.
“Muse has found the location, but a powerful magic seal is blocking her. She’s a berserker, knows nothing about magic. She’s worried about damaging Jie Luo’s soul fragment if it’s inside,” Loseweisse explained.
“We need a magic expert to support her.”
She looked at Athena. Ekaterina knew nothing about magic. And Loseweisse, as the self-proclaimed leader, wasn’t going on this mission.
Athena, seeing through her scheme, agreed readily, already plotting how to obtain the soul fragment for herself. Lord Jie Luo will be so happy, she thought.
Loseweisse smirked, pleased that they still followed her lead.
Ekaterina remained silent, her role as a spy to observe and report.
The meeting ended, each with their own hidden agendas.
…
In the next tent, O’Niens tearfully recounted his humiliation to his mother, exaggerating every detail. He was certain she would avenge him.
He heard her angry cries from the other end of the communication and smiled smugly. Qin Chu, Violet, you damned bastards, just wait…
He didn’t know that Inas was eavesdropping outside. She frowned at his childish behavior, running to his mother after such a minor setback. She felt a flicker of disdain, but quickly suppressed it.
…
Meanwhile, Ireta, the agent of Death, was busy. Life ended every moment in this world, and dealing with the souls of the dead was her duty.
Perhaps because the death aura within her had been cleansed, she seemed slightly more…alive.
“If you need me,” she told Qin Chu, “just call my name.” Then, she vanished.
Qin Chu didn’t return to camp immediately. As Ireta had warned, he wasn’t sure how effective his power would be against the Flame Witch, a raging spirit of fire. He might even become a target.
But he had to go to Flame Mountain. He had to try to save her, or at least disrupt the First Prince’s plan to control her.
Using a spatial teleportation scroll, he vanished, reappearing in a desolate wasteland.
Spatial teleportation was truly convenient.
Anthea emerged from his body, her small feet leaving no footprints in the sand. She held her spear, black chains wrapped around her. She usually stayed within him, only appearing when they faced a powerful enemy…
But Qin Chu saw no immediate danger. A sandstorm raged, the sky a swirling mass of yellow dust, the ground an endless expanse of desert, the air shimmering with heat.
The temperature was scorching, but Qin Chu felt no discomfort.
He was puzzled by Anthea’s appearance.
She frowned, her small hand resting on her chin, and glanced at him.
“Perhaps,” she murmured, “I should get a body too?”
She hadn’t cared before, but now, seeing Anastasia, Norma, and Ireta around Qin Chu… she felt a strange unease, intensified by Ireta’s presence.
Shaye, noticing her discomfort, had suggested an alliance against the other women.
And her first suggestion was for Anthea to appear before Qin Chu more often.
Her murmur, however, was lost in the wind.
“Anthea, what did you just say?” Qin Chu asked, leaning closer.
Startled, she let out a small cry and jumped back. Seeing it was Qin Chu, she calmed herself and shook her head. “No, I didn’t say anything.”
Then she looked at him with surprise. “You seem…better looking… than before.”
Qin Chu blushed slightly and looked away, towards the crimson glow in the distance, the dancing flames of Flame Mountain, the Flame Witch’s territory.
