Chapter 216: Want to Know What’s in the Soul Fragment?
Letting Ronald know that everything he had done had only benefited Qin Chu was the most effective way to inflict pain and despair.
Nothing could be more agonizing.
To think that he had endured so much in the Demon Beast territory, faced such danger, even suffered the humiliation of thousands of Demon Beasts, only for Jie Luo’s soul fragment to fall into Qin Chu’s hands, benefiting this devil…
A sharp pain stabbed at Ronald’s chest, and he spat out a mouthful of blood.
He pointed a trembling finger at Qin Chu, “You… you… you…”
He wanted to curse him, but he couldn’t speak.
“By the way,” Qin Chu continued, his voice dripping with malice, “this soul fragment is really useful. I used it before to disguise myself as Jie Luo… and Athena actually fell for it, offering herself to me.”
“I’ll put this soul fragment to good use too. Who do you think I should use it on?”
“Loseweisse? Airi? Eileen? Or Sylph?”
Ronald’s body trembled violently. “You… you… you wouldn’t dare…”
“Ah, right,” Qin Chu continued, “although I’m going to kill you soon, I’ve told Lomond to pretend that you’re still alive, to spread the word that you’re imprisoned.”
“What do you think? Will your… close comrades… come to rescue you?”
“I imagine it would be Eileen and Airi, right? Lomond is waiting for them. Do you think they’ll be captured? And if they are, what do you think will happen to them?”
Ronald’s eyes almost bulged from their sockets.
He remembered his own ordeal. Even he, a man, couldn’t bear it. If it were Eileen and Airi, two delicate girls, their fate would be hundreds of times worse.
The thought that he would cause the deaths of other Hero Squad members was a devastating blow.
“Oh, and I also told Lomond to spread the word about your… entertainment… in the Demon Beast camp, to let everyone know…”
Ronald trembled violently. The future of the Hero Squad was bleak. He would be responsible for the deaths of Eileen and Airi. His reputation would be ruined, he would become a laughingstock, and Jie Luo’s resurrection would be impossible…
He raised a trembling arm, pointing at Qin Chu:
“Devil…”
“You’re a devil!”
His shrill scream was like the howl of a wounded beast.
What kind of monster had Sage Mountain summoned?
Ronald’s body convulsed, a sharp pain piercing his heart, as if something inside had shattered. He spat out a mouthful of blood.
Then, with a final shudder, his arm fell limp.
He was still.
Qin Chu could sense that his heartbeat and breathing had stopped.
Dead? He had actually died from anger and shock?
Good riddance!
But Ronald’s tolerance was too low. Was he Wang Lang, dying from Zhuge Liang’s scolding?
*(In Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel) Zhuge Liang among other things scolded him(Wang Lang) as a dog and a traitor, from the shock of which he fell off his horse and died on the spot.*
Couldn’t he learn from him, Qin Chu? Be magnanimous, don’t take everything so seriously.
Such a narrow-minded person, dying from anger, deserved it.
The night wind blew, and Qin Chu felt a sense of satisfaction. Another enemy eliminated.
Silver flames erupted from his palm, engulfing Ronald’s body.
The twitching corpse quickly burned, flesh turning to ash, even his soul screaming as it dissipated.
Ronald, the Noble Swordsman, vanished from this world without a trace.
Qin Chu wouldn’t leave any clues behind. Although leaving Ronald’s soul to witness the spread of his humiliation throughout the human world, to watch his companions being deceived and killed one by one, would be incredibly satisfying, it was better to eliminate all possibilities.
He hadn’t even kept Benson’s soul, so he wouldn’t keep Ronald’s either.
He even threw Ronald’s storage ring into the silver flames, though he had transferred the contents beforehand.
After killing Ronald, a sense of satisfaction filled Qin Chu, followed by a slight emptiness.
He wondered if this was what it meant to be a sage.
He mocked himself inwardly, then sat down, leaning against a tree trunk.
He took out Jie Luo’s soul fragment. Compared to the one he had obtained from Violet, this one was slightly larger.
Clear and translucent, like a beautiful glass bead.
Qin Chu hoped to find some useful information within it, but he was also worried that it would be empty like the first one.
After a brief hesitation, he immersed his consciousness into the soul fragment.
Soon, he sighed. As he had feared, this soul fragment was also empty, devoid of any information.
This frustrated him. An empty soul fragment was useless… He even wondered if they could truly resurrect Jie Luo with such empty fragments.
Would they resurrect a soulless puppet?
Or summon a new consciousness from the Void and call it Jie Luo?
He felt that there was something strange about the mysterious person giving Loseweisse the scroll with the Resurrection Technique, asking her to resurrect Jie Luo.
Shaking his head, Qin Chu stood up, feeling a little disappointed, and put the soul fragment into his storage ring. It might still be useful later.
He was about to return to the camp.
“Are you trying to find the information recorded in the soul fragment?”
A soft, ethereal voice suddenly drifted into his ears, carried by the night wind.
“Yes, but unfortunately, it’s empty,” Qin Chu replied instinctively.
But then his eyes narrowed, and his expression quickly turned into his usual gentle smile.
He turned slightly, his gaze fixed on the figure behind him.
Under the moonlight, a young woman stood silently.
No, not standing.
Looking closely, she was floating slightly above the ground, her delicate toes not touching the fallen leaves.
Her long black hair, the same color as his, fluttered in the breeze. She had the same dark eyes as him. Her slender body was clad in a black lace dress, her long legs and feet encased in black stockings.
She looked stunning in stockings.
Under the moonlight, the thin fabric of her dress revealed the curves of her thighs, her slender calves seemingly glowing.
Through the sheer stockings, he could see the delicate outlines of her feet, the arches of her feet slightly curved. The black stockings shimmered faintly in the moonlight.
She seemed to be made for stockings, the embodiment of the Stocking Woman!
Even her hands were covered in black lace gloves.
Her entire being seemed to melt into the night.
And in stark contrast to her black attire, her face, her neck, her chest, all exposed skin, were incredibly fair.
She exuded a strange aura that made people overlook her beautiful, even cute, face at first glance.
There was a strange, alluring beauty about her.
Even Qin Chu hadn’t noticed her presence until she spoke.
He didn’t sense any immediate danger, no strong hostility. If she wanted to attack, a sneak attack would have been more effective.
But he remained vigilant.
He was curious about her identity.
“Be careful, that’s the Daughter of Death…” Shaye’s voice echoed in his mind, revealing the girl’s identity.
Facing the Daughter of Death, Shaye remained silent, not daring to emerge from Qin Chu’s body.
After all, the Daughter of Death was far more dangerous than the Storm Witch. Who knew what would happen if she sensed Shaye’s presence?
Shaye’s voice was filled with irritation, “Damn it, what does that hateful Witch want?”
Qin Chu could almost imagine Shaye pouting and stomping her feet in his mind.
The Daughter of Death?
The one who had purified tens of thousands of souls on the battlefield?
As Qin Chu pondered, the Daughter of Death also seemed to be lost in thought. She tilted her head slightly, glancing at the ashes where Ronald’s body had been incinerated, a look of disappointment on her face.
“The soul was burned so thoroughly,” she murmured.
“I sensed a powerful, tainted soul waiting to be reaped, but you burned it to ashes.”
“Is that so?” Qin Chu said, touching his nose with a slightly apologetic look, “Then I apologize.”
The girl shook her head slightly, her long black hair swaying. Her eyes, with their upturned corners, were like dark gems, staring at Qin Chu. “There’s no need to apologize, sir,” she said, her voice soft and ethereal, yet with a chilling undertone.
She lifted the hem of her lace skirt and curtsied gracefully, despite the distance between them. “We are the ones who should apologize,” she said.
“Please allow me, as the agent of Death, to offer you our sincerest apologies on behalf of this world.”
“I’m sorry, Hero.”
“This filthy and corrupted world is not worthy of your kindness.”
Qin Chu’s eyes narrowed.
He noted her self-proclaimed title: agent of Death?
It seemed he was about to learn something very interesting.
Seeing that even while apologizing, she kept her distance, Qin Chu frowned and took a step forward, trying to get closer.
But as he moved, the Daughter of Death silently floated backwards.
Her reaction puzzled him.
“I apologize, Hero, I know this is impolite, but all life that approaches me dies,” she explained, a hint of sadness in her voice.
This reminded Qin Chu of a phrase:
Death is like the wind, always by my side.
