    Chapter 116: A B-Rank Zombie! p1

    “Whirr—”

A black jeep, its paint scratched and faded, sped down the Guangkun Highway.

In the passenger seat, a young woman leaned against the window, enjoying the sunlight.

If not for the occasional need to swerve around overturned vehicles and potholes, it would have been a picturesque scene of a leisurely road trip.

Lin Jiayao, seemingly basking in the sun, was actually looking at the evolution retention interface.

These were the options from Goldie’s successful extraction.

    「Please retain your evolution」
「1、Crystal Storage Tentacles Lv.1 (Purple): Allows you to generate tentacles to store excess liquefied blood crystals. The tentacles can also store brains」
「2、Vigor Lv.3 (Gray): Slightly increases your mental strength」
「3、Blood Crystal Zombification Lv.1 (Purple): Allows you to create Blood Crystal insects directly from blood crystal fluid, without requiring a Hive」

    The third evolution was new.

A few days ago, she would have chosen the safer second option without hesitation.

Back then, she hadn’t acquired the Liquid Blood Crystal Veins ability from the fourth zombie and couldn’t liquefy blood crystals.

But now, she could generate blood crystal fluid herself. With enough blood crystals, she could create insects like Goldie, without needing a Hive.

And without those disgusting black holes on her skin – the head-Hive zombie she’d seen also seemed to cultivate its insects externally, its tentacles supplying the blood crystal fluid.

Although Goldie could do this too, it was less efficient than using the internal Hive; external cultivation had a longer growth cycle.

After considering Goldie’s insect abilities, Lin Jiayao chose the third evolution.

This time, she didn’t feel the usual warmth, just… a change in her right hand.

She could now control the flow and shape of the blood crystal fluid within her body.

    Suddenly, she realized a problem.

She could only generate blood crystal fluid by consuming blood crystal stones and letting them dissolve in her bloodstream.

So, to release the insects she created, she had two options:

Cut herself and let them crawl out, or use Symbiotic Link’s tendrils to… expel them from her mouth.

    Both options were… unpleasant.

But still better than having holes in her skin.

No, there was another way to store a large number of Blood Crystal insects.

    Huayibai.

Lin Jiayao looked at the rearview mirror. The reclined passenger seat didn’t obstruct her view, and Huayibai, after Lin Jiayao had woken up, had climbed onto the seat back.

She looked at Huayibai’s small form.

Although Huayibai had human organs, they were essentially just… decorations.

Lin Jiayao had seen it tear open its own body and stuff books inside; its organs could transform into fungal tendrils.

So, she could inject the blood crystal fluid, before the insects fully formed, into Huayibai’s body, replacing its blood and organs; it would be completely undetectable. And if she needed to store more, she could just… inject more.

This way, she could have a small army of insects stored within Huayibai, ready to be released through a small incision whenever needed.

It seemed like a good plan…

“Mommy…” Huayibai, who had been watching Lin Jiayao through the rearview mirror, noticed her mother’s gaze and her faint smile. It wanted to ask something but hesitated.

It felt like Mommy was planning something… unpleasant…

Seeing Huayibai’s slight flinch, the apprehension in its large eyes, Lin Jiayao sighed softly.

Huayibai wasn’t just a mindless fungal mass, it had sentience, the mind of a child.

Looking into its eyes, she couldn’t bring herself to do that.

    It felt… wrong.

She would just create a few insects inside her own body and test them; her regeneration ability was strong; a few small cuts would heal quickly.

She looked away, towards the Hideout icon.

The Zombie Loot Box hadn’t finished yet, so she would wait for that before logging in.

She now had ten blood crystals; with no pressing construction needs in the Hideout, she could afford to spend some on the Loot Box.

After all, the more you spent, the stronger the assigned zombie.

She had only offered a machete with a few blood crystal fragments last time, and it had yielded just a Sprinter.

    Ten more minutes.

Not enough time to log in. She decided to practice against the head-Hive zombie in the Training Grounds.

The Training Grounds could perfectly simulate that small section of the city and the giant head-Hive zombie.

Within ten minutes, Lin Jiayao had “died” more than ten times, her fastest run only thirty seconds.

Especially after the head-Hive zombie activated and released its swarm…

She had used almost all her tentacles to create insects and could barely hold them off for a few seconds – there were simply too many of them.

And her control over the insects wasn’t very precise; Goldie, without any brains to consume, couldn’t micro-manage them effectively.

She could only issue basic commands; they were essentially just cannon fodder, a one-for-one trade.

    “Hoo…”

Exiting the Training Grounds, she sighed.

She couldn’t defeat it with Goldie alone.

Perhaps, next time, she could try adding Huayibai to the simulation.

Leaving the Training Grounds, she opened the Zombie Loot Box interface.

The Loot Box, hovering beside the Control Center, was open, but it wasn’t glowing gold, but white.

She hadn’t expected much from a Sprinter anyway; the white glow didn’t disappoint her.

    She opened it.

    [Obtained: Broken Vape Pen x1]

    Lin Jiayao: “…”

She’d been expecting a few grams of blood crystals, or perhaps some useless trinkets.

    But a broken vape pen…?

She skipped the loot and looked at the evolution options.

    「Please retain your evolution」
「1、【Fearless Charge Lv.1 (Blue): Channels blood crystal energy, allowing you to charge towards a designated target with increased speed and resilience, ignoring pain and fear】」
「2、【Bite Lv.1 (White): Strengthens your bite muscles, teeth, and claws】」
「3、【Robust Lv.3 (Gray): Makes the host’s body more robust, moderately increases healing ability, grants immunity to most mixed toxins and blood-borne toxins】」

Looking at the options, Lin Jiayao paused.

“System, can I charge… without legs?” she asked mentally.

She suspected the system was messing with her.

「Of course. The host can crawl and charge, it would just be slower.」

    “Heh.”

Ignoring the system, she chose Lv.3 Robust.

The upgraded Robust granted immunity to some toxins, a useful evolution.

And it was free, so she wasn’t complaining.

After selecting the evolution, she felt a familiar warmth spreading through her body, and the red marks and bruises on her legs, from being tied up, quickly faded.

The healing sensation made her instinctively reach down and touch her right leg.

    Still no feeling.

    Sigh…

Every time the warmth flowed through her legs, she felt a flicker of hope, only to be disappointed.

I’ll check on the fifth zombie, the purple-skinned giant, and see if it has evolved to B-rank. A B-rank evolution would be a significant boost.

Thinking this, Lin Jiayao lay down, her head resting on Huayibai’s lap, and opened the login interface.

Lin Xiwan, meanwhile, was starting to feel carsick, staring blankly at the road ahead, occasionally adjusting the steering wheel.

Even for a C-rank Awakened, driving for so long was tiring. She didn’t even notice her sister lying down.

But they still had a long way to go; she couldn’t rest yet.

She was the only one who could drive; she couldn’t expect her sister or Huayibai to take over.

Huayibai was too small; its feet couldn’t reach the pedals if it could see over the steering wheel, and if its feet could reach the pedals, it wouldn’t be able to see.

Although driving while tired was dangerous, the highway had been relatively safe.

But the Qingzhou University Camp… they weren’t so lucky.

They were now in a desperate battle.

With its large population, including many elderly, sick, and disabled who could only farm, clean, or cook, organizing an evacuation had been difficult.

And they didn’t have enough vehicles or supplies for everyone.

A self-sufficient camp’s demographics weren’t as… combat-ready as those of scavenging camps. In other words, they lacked fighters.

Wan Zi, the camp leader, had chosen to fortify their defenses, creating the illusion of abandonment, even destroying their crops, preparing for a siege.

Surprisingly, most of the Awakened hadn’t abandoned the camp, only about a dozen had fled.

    This was unusual.

But that was the advantage of a self-sufficient camp; a stronger sense of community and belonging; they didn’t want to abandon the life they’d built.

Everyone in the camp, from the elderly to the children, had been given at least a pistol and a grenade.

    An army of civilians.

Initially, Wan Zi had hoped they wouldn’t be discovered so quickly. After all, the university wasn’t in the city center, but on the outskirts.

She didn’t think the Voodoo Cult was that efficient, able to scour every village and town.

She’d been wrong. A giant insect had circled overhead, dropping a signal flare, shattering any illusions of safety.

After a campus-wide alarm, the entire camp was on high alert, preparing for the inevitable Voodoo Cult attack.

And indeed, guided by the flare, the Voodoo Cult had arrived quickly.

The battle had raged all night, both sides suffering heavy losses, but the Qingzhou University Camp had held, the Voodoo Cult, lacking reinforcements, surrounding them but not pressing the attack.

    They were waiting for reinforcements.

And the Voodoo Cult could wait; they had reinforcements. But the Qingzhou camp didn’t. They were trapped.

And the ruthless Voodoo Cult had even sent people to poison the stream that fed their reservoir.

The Qingzhou University Camp was now facing a slow, agonizing death, people succumbing to despair or sacrificing themselves for the others, taking their own lives to conserve resources.

Such tragedies weren’t limited to Qingzhou; they were happening in almost every remaining camp in Guangdong Province.

Perhaps those in the south, their camps flooded and destroyed by the typhoon, had been the lucky ones; at least their deaths had been swift.

Today, under the scorching sun, the highways and camps of Guangdong were once again battlegrounds, a desperate struggle for survival.

And in Japan, a few time zones away, another tremor…

The Dhṛtarāṣṭra Ino Cult had “revived” their deity, the God of Ino, sending ripples of fear through the other factions in Tokyo.

“Master, another tremor in Chiba… We’ve lost contact with our members there…”

    “I understand. You’re dismissed.”

    “Hai.”

Inside a large estate in the mountains, an elderly man, sitting in a tea room, dismissed his subordinate.

As he raised his teacup, he heard footsteps approaching.

He put down the cup and waited for the knock.

    “Knock, knock, knock—”

“Master, Noto, an executive from the Yamashita Clan, requests an audience.”

    “Hmm? Send him in.”

The Yamashita Clan… another powerful faction in Tokyo, known for their violence and ruthlessness, unlike their cult, which relied on religious indoctrination. He hadn’t expected them to send an executive.

    This piqued his interest.

If he wasn’t mistaken, he was also here because of… the things from the sea.

Even the ruthless were now afraid.

The executive entered, his usual arrogance replaced by a subservient demeanor. He bowed slightly.

“Our leader invites you to a joint conference in three days,” he said, his tone respectful.

“Why?” the Master asked, sipping his tea, feigning ignorance.

“Don’t play dumb, you usurper. Chiba has sunk! Didn’t you see the tsunami?” The executive knelt, his finger jabbing at the table. “Chiba is gone, Tokyo is next! Old man!”

The old man’s arrogance had angered him; his true nature, barely concealed, now surfaced.

  • Sickly Girl Doesn’t Die in Zombie Simulator 115

Chapter 115: The Blood Crystal’s Nemesis

    “Jin?”

Monica paused, repeating the name, and after the girl nodded, confirming it wasn’t “Gin” or something similar.

    An unusual name.

“Jin, you stopped us…?” Monica glanced at her team and shrugged slightly. “Is there something you need help with?”

Perhaps because of the Queen’s childlike appearance, Monica felt surprisingly little fear, speaking to it calmly.

It hadn’t ordered the zombies to attack them, and it had lowered its body to speak to her at eye level.

This suggested that the mysterious, powerful Awakened controlling it, Jin, had no hostile intentions, likely wanting to communicate.

And indeed, when she offered assistance, the Queen nodded.

“Yes.” Lin Jiayao looked at the woman and asked, “Are you from a camp?”

“Yes, we’re on our way back,” Monica replied cautiously, not revealing their camp’s location. “Jin, are you looking for supplies?”

    “No.”

    Lin Jiayao shook her head.

She just wanted to confirm they were from a local camp, so she could ask them for information.

    “I have a few questions.”

“Ask away. If I know the answer, I’ll tell you,” Monica said, glancing at her teammates.

If the questions were about their camp’s location, they would have to risk their lives to warn them.

They couldn’t be sure if this powerful being intended to raid their camp; it was hard to judge intentions, especially since they couldn’t even see the controller.

“I need a map,” Lin Jiayao said, ignoring their silent communication. “A map marking all the Hive Zombie territories.”

“A map?” Monica frowned, thinking she wanted a map of their territory.

Then she realized. “You want a map of all the Queen’s territories?”

“Yes,” Lin Jiayao controlled Goldie and nodded slightly.

Although their phrasing differed, they understood each other.

“That’s easy… wait a moment, Li, a new map and a pen.” Monica turned and knocked on the driver’s side window.

A state map and a pen were handed out.

Monica unfolded the map and, as she marked it, explained, “This is Green Devil’s territory. The camp sent a team to eliminate it, but they failed. We haven’t figured out why yet…”

“This large area is Brain Demon’s territory. It’s the second largest Queen in Wisconsin. Its sonic attacks can even affect humans, making it almost impossible to approach…”

“No camp has been able to enter this area. We believe it has the highest concentration of mutated zombies, possibly even the strongest Queen in the state. It’s best to avoid this entire region…”

Monica carefully explained their accumulated knowledge of Wisconsin, essential for survival.

Safe zones, danger zones, territories claimed by Queens, routes for exchanging supplies… she marked and explained everything.

She didn’t dare withhold any information. If this powerful being knew the area, and she gave false information, she might anger it.

And this wasn’t classified information; anyone could tell her these things. Honesty was the best policy.

After years of exploration and mapping, the distribution of Queens in Wisconsin was relatively stable, the dangerous areas well-known. She handed the marked map to the child-like Queen.

“Mm.” Lin Jiayao took the map, scanned it, and then her gaze settled on a large area marked with a danger symbol.

After comparing it to the map, she looked around, locating the extraction point.

“We’re here, Jin,” Monica said, seeing her looking around, assuming she was disoriented, pointing to their location on the map.

    Oh…

    Lin Jiayao nodded.

So, based on the extraction point’s location, she was very close to that marked danger zone…

In other words… it was on her way…

    Should I… check it out?

The thought took root in her mind.

She could send her insects and controlled zombies to scout while her main body remained near the extraction point.

If anything went wrong, she could extract immediately.

Even if she was pursued, it wouldn’t matter.

She would have already extracted. The system wouldn’t mind.

Thinking this, Lin Jiayao nodded, making up her mind.

And after seeing it, she could simulate the encounter in the Training Grounds.

Practice first, and then fight the real thing.

“This… is a shortcut?” she asked, drawing a line on the map with a tentacle.

“Well, yes, but…” Monica, who’d been nodding along, suddenly realized what the Queen had just marked. Wasn’t that the central zone, the area they’d avoided for years?

    Could it be…

“You… you’re going there?” Monica stammered, incredulous.

If this powerful being, Jin, was really going there, then she clearly didn’t care about camps or settlements.

She was just… evolving her zombies… like other control-type Awakened, collecting blood crystals from similar types.

Lin Jiayao, ignoring the woman’s reaction, controlled Goldie and moved away from the jeep.

Extraction time was limited; she didn’t have time for this.

Having confirmed a large Hive Zombie territory near the extraction point, Lin Jiayao, her tentacles writhing, climbed onto a nearby abandoned car.

As the people in the jeep watched, bewildered, Lin Jiayao’s massive form settled onto the car, its weight flattening the tires slightly.

Then, several muscular, black Sprinters rushed towards the car, lifted it like a coffin, and ran towards the extraction point.

And behind them, a horde of Sprinters and Hunters, clearing the path.

After the zombies were gone, the people in the jeep could only stare, dumbfounded, at the direction they’d gone.

Lin Jiayao, feeling the wind on her face as she rode the car, nodded to herself.

Huayibai’s method of transportation was… surprisingly efficient.

She hadn’t thought of this before, while controlling Goldie, just slowly inching her way towards the extraction point with her tentacles.

I should be more creative with locomotion, especially with control-type zombies.

These controlled zombies were expendable anyway, no harm in exploiting them.

Inspired by Huayibai’s ingenuity, she was even considering the feasibility of zombie-powered generators.

    It might actually work!

Just a few Sprinters per hundred kilometers.

It seemed the system hadn’t anticipated this mode of transportation, hence the generous three-hour extraction time for a mere 10-kilometer distance.

10 kilometers was nothing for a Sprinter.

Within twenty minutes, carrying the car, the Sprinters had covered the distance, even with detours.

Nearing the extraction point, Lin Jiayao saw the designated building.

A luxurious hotel—or at least, it had once been luxurious.

As long as she entered the lobby, the extraction would begin.

The Sprinters gently placed the car in front of the hotel entrance. Lin Jiayao took out the map, looked at the hotel’s location, and then across the street.

That Hive Zombie’s territory… was just across the street?

The system was definitely messing with her.

    “Buzz—”

White Bone Mantises emerged from her eye sockets. With her increased blood crystal reserves, she could now create a large number of insects for scouting.

The mantises, their long, barbed tails dragging behind them, each carrying a Little Green Bee on its head, flew towards the opposite side of the street.

Lin Jiayao wasn’t looking for a fight; she just wanted to see the zombies in that territory.

A glimpse was all she needed to simulate them in the Training Grounds.

And several green insects flew towards some nearby Hunters, and Lin Jiayao issued a search command.

Although Sprinters were faster, in urban environments, Hunters were better at stealth and utilizing the terrain.

    “Buzz—”

The mantises and the Hunters, crossing the street from different directions.

They were her suicide squad, their only mission to get a visual on the Hive Zombie.

The green insects’ vision and the white insects’ Bone Spike Lurker feedback filled her mind, like watching multiple security cameras simultaneously.

    “Roar—”

Zombie growls from the other side; a mutated zombie had been discovered within ten seconds, a fight breaking out.

    “Buzz—”

Lin Jiayao directed the white insects to spread out, exploring a wider area.

Suddenly, one of them stopped, its Bone Spike Lurker detecting a buzzing sound from underground.

Coming from the sewers, a deep, resonant vibration, like thousands of insects trapped in a metal can.

    Flying insects underground.

And where there were flying insects… there was a Hive Zombie.

The bone insect flew to a sewer maintenance hole. It wasn’t strong enough to lift the heavy metal grate, but the green insect on its head could slip through the gaps.

    “Buzz—”

The green insect detached and flew down into the sewer.

And on the other side of the street, a Hunter, pursued by a small group of zombies, slid across the ground, hooked its claws under a manhole cover, and, with a grunt, lifted it, squeezing into the opening.

    “Splash—”

It landed in a puddle of viscous, transparent fluid, a sickening sound.

The green insect above, using its night vision, saw the scene below.

    Was this… a sewer?

A dense mass of tentacles filled the space, almost like the inside of a giant creature’s intestines.

And beneath the layers of tentacles, countless blurry human brains.

    “Gurgle—”

The tentacles near the green insect shifted, parting slightly, revealing a mass of black holes beneath.

    “Buzz—”

    “Thud—”

A flash of gold, and then the green insect’s vision went dark.

And then the Hunter below also lost control, several golden streaks piercing its body.

    Golden insects?

This speed… she remembered Goldie’s golden insects, as fast as bullets.

    I have to hurry.

    “Buzz—”

Losing one insect, Lin Jiayao immediately directed another one, already inside the sewer, to take flight.

The green insect zipped through the narrow, tentacle-filled tunnels, the tentacles parting, revealing the holes within, as it passed.

Thankfully, Lin Jiayao had anticipated this, expertly maneuvering the insect through the twisting tunnels, dodging the slowly shifting tentacles.

But the tentacles were moving faster now, the holes already open in front of her; even dodging wouldn’t save her for long.

But just ahead, she saw a larger opening, seemingly with flowing water.

The convergence point of the sewers, the source of the tentacles.

    Just a glimpse…

    “Buzz—”

Using the last of the insect’s energy, she sped forward, its wings a blur. Time seemed to slow down – and she saw the Hive Zombie at the center of the tentacle mass.

Is… is that even a zombie anymore?

At the entrance to the underground river, a massive “head,” almost filling the entire space, its bloated form squeezed into the narrow sewer.

Countless tentacles extended from its thick neck, forming the intestinal-like network filling the tunnels.

The entire head, a semi-translucent, sickly green, like a grotesque, overinflated balloon, its two massive, meter-wide eyes slowly turning towards the green insect.

    “Click, click—”

A large, dark green insect emerged from one of its eyes, its sharp legs seemingly tearing the soft eyeball, a “pop” as it burst.

    “Plop, plop—”

Human brains spilled from the ruptured eye socket, the Hive Zombie frantically trying to retrieve them with its tentacles, but some were swept away by the current, towards Lin Jiayao’s insect.

    “WOOOO—”

The Hive Zombie roared, enraged, and all the black holes in the sewer widened, a terrifying, claustrophobic sight.

    “Buzz—”

    “Roar—”

Countless insects swarmed out, their buzzing wings echoing through the sewer tunnels, a deafening roar.

Almost instantly, Lin Jiayao lost contact with all her insects in that area.

    “Shit!”

She immediately severed the connections, not wanting to experience their deaths, and looked at the area from the edge of her detection range.

    Then, she was stunned.

Swarms of glowing insects, a colorful tidal wave, poured out from the sewers, converging in the sky above.

As if having found their target, the massive swarm, like a tsunami, descended upon her.

    An overwhelming, inescapable wave—

    Run!

She turned and lunged towards the hotel lobby, the extraction countdown appearing.

    [Extracting: 7.9]

    Hurry, hurry, hurry!

The eight-second countdown seemed like an eternity. I should suggest to the system that they reduce the extraction time to one second!

    “Boom—”

The insect wave slammed into the hotel’s glass doors, instantly overwhelming the Sprinters guarding the entrance.

The luxurious glass doors, which had somehow survived five years in the apocalypse, shattered, the insects flooding into the lobby.

    Hold on!!!

Lin Jiayao quickly took out a Blood Crystal Combat Stimulant and injected it into her chest, hoping to buy Goldie some time.

Thankfully, she’d reacted quickly. Just before the largest of the dark green insects reached her, she was extracted.

    “Hoo—”

Having nothing to transfer, she skipped the settlement screen and returned to her body, gasping for air.

She had even felt the cold touch of the massive mandibles on her skin just before extracting.

Good thing it wasn’t her or Goldie they’d bitten, but just… the system.

Lin Jiayao breathed a sigh of relief.

    “Another nightmare, Yao?”

Lin Xiwan, seeing her sister’s panicked state, her rapid breathing, handed her a bottle of water, as if having anticipated this.

    “Gulp—”

Lin Jiayao took the water, carefully took two small sips, and then closed the cap.

“You haven’t had anything to drink since yesterday morning. Drink more,” Lin Xiwan smiled, gesturing to the back of the car. “There’s plenty.”

Lin Jiayao looked and saw the boxes of water. “No nightmares, just… a dream about falling…” She then asked, changing the subject, “Where did all this water come from?”

She was just making small talk, trying to distract herself; she was still shaken.

Seeing a tsunami of insects coming for you… that would traumatize anyone.

She’d expected that zombie to be powerful, but not this powerful.

Not its individual strength, but its blood crystal reserves!

To summon such a massive swarm… it must have a huge stockpile… perhaps that entire underground sewer network was its… blood crystal storage system!

The initial fear had been replaced by a thrill of excitement.

She had marked that zombie; she could now simulate it in the Training Grounds!

Practice first, then fight the real thing.

And if she could kill it… the blood crystals…

Maybe she should upgrade the warehouse first? It might not be big enough.

She hadn’t even started the fight yet, and she was already celebrating.

“…and then I got all this! Hehe~ impressive, right?… Are you even listening, Yao?”

Lin Xiwan, having just finished her enthusiastic account of how she had cleverly acquired several boxes of water, noticed her sister seemed distracted.

“Yes, I heard you,” Lin Jiayao said, snapping out of her thoughts and smiling at her sister. “Sister is so clever.”

“Of course, I’m your older sister!” Lin Xiwan beamed, the praise warming her.

Lin Jiayao had indeed heard her sister’s story.

But then she looked at Huayibai.

She couldn’t defeat that zombie alone.

    But with Huayibai…?

If she could transport Huayibai’s spores to America through the safehouse… and a small piece of Goldie’s tentacle… she could create a Huayibai clone there.

And with Huayibai’s help, the fight would be much easier…

“Mommy… what’s wrong?” Huayibai tilted its head, looking at her. “Your eyes… they look… strange…”

“Hmm? Do they?” Lin Jiayao stroked Huayibai’s head and then asked her sister, “Where are we now, Sister?”

“Almost at Liuzhou City, about a third of the way there. We’ll be there soon,” Lin Xiwan replied reassuringly.

The long journey, the battles, had exhausted her sister; but they still had a long way to go.

They would be in Kun City soon, they just had to persevere.

What they didn’t know was that, at the same time, the Voodoo Cult was undergoing a massive… re-education program.

Chongyu City, Voodoo Cult headquarters, the Boss’s villa.

Wu Hejun sat on the sofa, the other remaining B-rank Awakened beside her.

A long line of people waited outside, seemingly having been summoned, unsure when they would be called in.

“Anan, you haven’t forgotten who pulled you out of that… pathetic, spineless existence, have you?”

Wu Hejun smiled at the man beside her, his expression calm.

She was nothing like the frenzied lightning-wielding lunatic from before, her demeanor now composed and charismatic, her voice persuasive.

“Before the apocalypse, you were… what? Just an ordinary office worker,” she said, leaning closer to the man called Anan. “Nine to five, a meager salary, constantly looked down upon…”

“Do those things… your job, your salary, your background… do they define you? They did. But the apocalypse changed everything.”

“Your job defined you, your bank account defined you, the car you drove, your wallet, your clothes… everything defined you, you were just another face in the crowd!”

“But five years ago, everything changed. The Voodoo Cult accepted you, nurtured you, gave you countless opportunities, awakened your true nature! Made you truly free!”

“The Voodoo Cult gave you everything… I gave you everything. Remember the good times, the fear in their eyes, you are special, you are unique, you are above them…”

“And now, there’s a threat, trying to destroy everything, to take away the life you’ve built… Anan, think carefully. Don’t let that woman influence you.”

She patted his shoulder and sighed softly.

“I… I understand… Boss.” Anan took a deep breath and stood up. Her words had rekindled the fire within him, the reason he’d joined the Voodoo Cult.

After he left, more C-rank Awakened were brought in, then D-rank… Finally, Wu Hejun went to the plaza, where the remaining ordinary Voodoo Cult warriors were gathered.

Her speeches and indoctrination sessions had stabilized the cult, and after the final speech, returning to the villa, she collapsed, exhausted.

    “You’ve worked hard… Xiaolian…”

“It’s fine… now it’s your turn, Junjun. Find her. While Anan is still… receptive… take him and kill her…”

    “Okay, Xiaolian…”

“Wu? Are you afraid? Why are you trembling?”

    “No… I won’t lose again. I’ll make her suffer…”

Inside a blood crystal-adorned room, Wu Hejun muttered to herself, lying on a specially made bed of sharpened blood crystals that pierced her back.

“Haa…” Her voice trembled from the pain.

“I’ll find her…” The power of the blood crystals flowed into her body, and she closed her eyes, drifting off to sleep.

    No, not just her.

Other precognitive Awakened in the world, perhaps even powerful precognitive zombies, would also see the same vision.

A recurring nightmare, a vision that haunted their sleep, an inescapable premonition.

A woman, her back to them, sitting beneath a blood-red moon, all the blood crystals in the world shattering, drawn towards her like a vortex…

    She must be eliminated—

The blood crystals within their bodies, like sensing a natural predator, urged them on, a constant, nagging reminder.

    Chapter 114: Hello, Boss, p2

“Xiao Yibai, help me find some blood crystals and supplies. I’ll see if there are any working vehicles.”

After about two or three hours of searching, Lin Xiwan and Huayibai found a working Voodoo Cult vehicle and about half a car’s worth of supplies.

While loading the supplies, Lin Xiwan had Huayibai use a rock to scrape the Voodoo Cult stickers and symbols from the jeep.

The once stylishly modified jeep now looked battle-worn.

As for her sister, Lin Xiwan had untied her, removed the belt and ropes, and placed her in the passenger seat.

After securing everything, they got in the car.

Her sister was sleeping soundly, leaning against the reclined seatback. With less cargo in the back, Lin Xiwan had been able to lower the seat for her.

Several red marks from the ropes were visible on her sister’s legs, a sight that made Lin Xiwan’s heart ache.

Such beautiful legs… I shouldn’t have tied them so tightly… I’ll use cloth next time.

And no more shorts for her sister; she needed long pants for protection.

But those red marks on her sister’s smooth, white thighs… they stirred a strange feeling within her.

    They looked… even more… appealing…

“Dad… Sister, what are you doing?” Huayibai asked innocently from the back.

“Ah? N-nothing, just… massaging the bruises on her legs,” Lin Xiwan said, quickly withdrawing her hand from her sister’s thigh and placing it on the gear stick.

“Oh…” Huayibai nodded, then asked, her eyes shining, “Can Yibai help?”

Huayibai’s logic was simple: if she helped Mommy, Mommy might praise her when she woke up.

“No, it’s okay, Yibai, be a good girl and go rest,” Lin Xiwan patted Huayibai’s head and started the engine.

    “Roar—”

The loud engine almost startled her; she glanced back at her sister, relieved she hadn’t been woken up.

As expected of a Voodoo Cult modified engine, loud.

Just as she was about to pull away, she heard the roar of engines from the road to her left.

    “Huh?!”

    Her eyes widened.

    The Voodoo Cult?!

She slammed on the brakes. The approaching vehicles, also seeing her sudden stop, braked hard.

    “Screech—”
    “Screech—”

The entire convoy braked, but a few still rear-ended each other, a chaotic pileup.

“What happened?!” A voice from a loudspeaker, asking about the sudden stop.

And armed men started pouring out of the vehicles, heading towards the front.

“Wait! It’s a misunderstanding! We’re friendly! I recognize them, they just have a different car!”

The middle-aged man from the lead vehicle jumped out, his hands raised.

Lin Xiwan, having shifted into reverse, preparing to escape, saw the man.

    Him?

She recognized him. He was from the Panlong Plaza Camp’s advance team, the ones they’d encountered earlier.

And behind him… the main force.

She placed her left hand on the Voodoo Cult rifle beside her, ready to fire.

“Don’t come any closer! Stay back!” the man shouted, waving his arms, stopping the others before they reached the intersection.

So many armed men approaching would scare anyone away.

Then, unarmed, he walked towards them alone.

Seeing only one person approaching, Lin Xiwan didn’t retreat.

They hadn’t had any conflict earlier; this camp’s advance team seemed… reasonable; they wouldn’t start a fight unnecessarily.

They were all just survivors, displaced by the Voodoo Cult; there was no need for hostility.

And, more importantly, she wanted to trade for some supplies – they had lost a lot in last night’s battle, especially the water; the jeep carrying most of it had been crushed.

She wanted to trade for more water.

“Hello again,” the man said, reaching their jeep and knocking on the window. After she lowered the window, he smiled.

Then he noticed the wreckage behind their vehicle.

    That is…

He’d only glanced at it initially, but then he froze, his eyes fixed on the debris.

    That… that… that… that V symbol?!

Voodoo Cult markings?! Voodoo Cult vehicles?!

And their jeep… it was different, a new one.

    Had they…

Wiped out an entire Voodoo Cult convoy?!

He noticed the “powerful” young woman in the passenger seat, lying down, seemingly resting.

And the others… they didn’t seem injured, only the younger girl had some marks on her legs…

    They’d clearly been in a fight…

He nodded to himself, relieved he’d followed their lead earlier, a chill running down his spine.

If he hadn’t followed them, if he hadn’t let them pass, what would have happened?

He might have encountered that Voodoo Cult convoy himself…

Thinking of the Voodoo Cult’s brutality, he shuddered.

His voice, involuntarily, became more respectful.

“Where… where are you esteemed ladies headed? And… what happened back there…?” he asked, his voice trembling slightly.

He now regretted coming alone; he should have brought a few men for… moral support.

These women… they’d taken down an entire Voodoo Cult convoy!

“Don’t ask questions you don’t want the answers to,” Lin Xiwan said, seeing the fear in his eyes as he looked at the wreckage. She decided to take advantage of his misunderstanding.

Leaning against the window, she said casually, “Let’s make a deal.”

“A deal? What kind of deal? Tell me,” the man said quickly, recognizing her strength.

In this world, strength was everything. Angering her could mean death for his entire convoy.

As long as her demands weren’t too unreasonable, even if it was robbery, he would have to comply.

“I need some water,” Lin Xiwan said, gesturing vaguely behind her. “The rest… is yours.”

She wanted to trade the scavenging rights for a few containers of water.

This wasn’t a loss for her; she couldn’t carry all that loot anyway.

And for the man standing by her car… this was a fantastic deal.

    “Water?” He was stunned.

They had plenty of water. If it weren’t for the news about the Voodoo Cult’s advance, they could have continued drawing water from the lake in Panlong Plaza.

Boil it, and it was safe to drink. Their vehicles were fully stocked.

Of course, he wouldn’t insult these powerful figures with lake water; he would give them bottled water.

After quickly assessing the available space in their jeep, he gave an okay sign.

“No problem. I’ll have them back up a bit. There might be some engine noise.”

After explaining, he ran back to the convoy, seemingly to speak to their leader.

Lin Xiwan saw someone cautiously peek around the corner, their gaze fixed on the wreckage behind them, and then quickly disappear.

    A scout, confirming the situation.

Soon, boxes of water were stacked by the roadside, engines roared to life, and then the entire convoy reversed, creating a large distance between them and the intersection.

Then, three bare-chested men, carrying the water boxes, approached the jeep. Lin Xiwan opened the trunk, and they loaded the boxes, filling it completely.

After carefully securing the boxes, they retreated.

Lin Xiwan, confirming the trunk was full, didn’t say anything more, but started the engine, turned sharply, and drove onto the national highway towards the next highway entrance.

Only after they were long gone did the convoy return. A large group of men emerged and began scavenging the Voodoo Cult’s vehicles.

Although much of it was damaged, there were plenty of weapons, grenades, and food.

After a short while, they had more than enough to compensate for the water they had given away.

“Truly… generous… those bosses…” the man who’d spoken to Lin Xiwan earlier said, looking at the loot.

Lin Xiwan and her sister had gained water, supplies, and blood crystal stones; the Panlong Plaza convoy had gained much-needed weapons and equipment.

Only the Voodoo Cult had suffered.

“Second Brother, should we follow them?” the camp leader asked the middle-aged man, his voice low.

He knew they had been following a group of powerful Awakened and was worried about angering them.

“Boss… take a look at this carnage,” the man, called Second Brother, said, gesturing at the wreckage and the craters. “If we encountered them, do you think we would survive?”

The leader looked at the devastation and, after a moment of silence, replied, “No.”

Their camp had many families, children; they traveled slowly, often stopping in cities to rest during the night. They would be no match for the Voodoo Cult.

“So it’s better to follow them, at least until we’re out of Guangdong,” Second Brother said. “If they get angry, we can beg for mercy. Could we beg for mercy from the Voodoo Cult?”

“You’re right.” The leader nodded, then raised his voice. “Grab some food, everyone! Time to move! Don’t get left behind!”

He had made his decision: follow these powerful women until they found a safe place, or at least, until they left Guangdong.

Although he didn’t know where they were going, following them was safer than venturing alone…

Lin Xiwan, unaware of being followed, was pleased with her cleverness, securing much-needed water and avoiding a potential conflict.

That man, after seeing the Voodoo Cult wreckage, had been practically groveling.

I have to tell Yao about this later, she thought, imagining her sister’s smile of approval.

What Lin Xiwan didn’t know was that, on the other side of the world, her sister had also encountered a group of survivors.

Wisconsin. A mass of “tentacles” emerging from a store on the first floor of a building.

Only after a large number of tentacles had spilled out could they see the body they were attached to.

A small, blonde girl, about ten years old, her hands and feet replaced by translucent, golden tentacles.

    “Click—Click—”

After cycling through her eye configurations, Lin Jiayao, having warmed up in the Training Grounds, quickly reacquainted herself with Goldie’s body.

Just as she emerged from the building, checking the location of the extraction point, she heard gunshots in the distance.

    Humans?

    “Buzz—”

Several green insects flew from her eye sockets towards the sound. They quickly located a vehicle.

A beige, armored jeep, its occupants firing at Sprinters through the gun ports.

“Damn it, when did this district get infested?”

“God only knows. Oh, wait, look over there!!!”

    “Holy shit! A bug!”

The Asian driver, startled, cursed in his native language and swerved, trying to escape.

It was still dusk… were these people returning to their camp, passing through here, and being attacked by the zombies she had stationed nearby?

Perfect. She had been planning to find some local survivors and ask about stronger Hive Zombies in the area.

And now they had delivered themselves to her doorstep.

Since they were here, they could answer a few questions.

Under Lin Jiayao’s control, a Sprinter that had been clawing at the jeep’s side climbed onto the hood, blocking the driver’s view, while another jumped off a building, landed on the jeep’s tires, and shoved its arm into the wheel well, jamming it.

The jeep screeched to a halt.

    “Roar—”

The other zombies, released from their defensive posture, emerged from the surrounding buildings and charged towards the jeep.

But they stopped at Lin Jiayao’s command, forming a neat line.

She didn’t want to scare the people inside too much; they might detonate a grenade.

Seeing the zombies stop, and unable to restart the engine, the occupants of the jeep, looking at the line of mutated zombies in the rearview mirror, were filled with despair.

Then they saw the Sprinters part, and from among them, a small, blonde girl, her lower body a mass of writhing tentacles, slowly approached.

    “Oh God…”

One of them sighed, pulled out a grenade, and said, “It’s a Queen…”

“Queen” was their local term for a Hive Zombie. And for a small team like theirs, encountering a Queen meant certain death.

Although this Queen was… strangely beautiful, almost… artistic… it didn’t change the fact that it was a terrifying Hive Zombie.

“No, George, wait! Look!” A white woman in the back shouted, pointing, and they all looked towards the side.

Through the left window, they saw a swarm of glowing green insects, forming a word.

    “HELLO.”

    It… was greeting them?

They looked at each other in bewilderment.

They’d never encountered anything like this before.

“Could it be…?” the woman who had spoken earlier said hesitantly, “An Awakened-controlled Queen?”

    An Awakened-controlled Queen?

They were stunned. The idea was absurd.

Hive Zombies were notoriously difficult to control, even a C-rank Awakened couldn’t control a low-level Queen.

Controlling such a powerful Queen would require an incredibly strong Awakened.

    B-rank?

    A-rank?

Impossible. This wasn’t Los Angeles; there were no “Free Hand” members here.

Then, they noticed the insects had rearranged themselves, now forming a question mark, as if asking why they hadn’t responded.

It… it really was an Awakened…

    “Click—”

    The car door opened.

    “Hey! Wait! Monica!”

Before they could stop her, the white woman in tactical gear jumped out.

“Hello, my name is Monica,” she said, her hand trembling slightly as she extended it, unarmed, fighting her fear.

And the Queen, lowering its body, its tentacles writhing, its gaze now level with hers.

“JIN,” it said, wrapping a slimy tentacle around her hand.

Instantly, the fear in the jeep dissipated.

Even the mutated zombies outside seemed less threatening.

    Chapter 114: Hello, Boss, p1

The building they were in was an office building.

Lin Xiwan didn’t jump down with Lin Jiayao and Huayibai, but instead carried her sister and led Huayibai down the stairs.

She wanted to see if she could find anything useful.

The battle last night had destroyed most of their supplies, the jeep crushed almost beyond recognition.

She’d even gotten a few folding wheelchairs for her sister, but now, even if she found them, they would just be twisted metal.

All they had left was the rifle Lin Jiayao had been holding, its barrel now bent.

She needed to find a rope or something to secure her sister to her back or front, her legs wrapped around her waist.

Carrying her sister like this made it difficult to fight.

Descending the stairs, Lin Xiwan saw the dimly lit, ransacked stores.

Before the apocalypse, this building had been a small commodity wholesale center, filled with toys, figurines, and other trinkets.

In the dark corridors, illuminated only by the light filtering through broken windows and the open stairwell, she could make out dark, dried bloodstains on the floor.

Each stain, each scratch mark on the walls, a testament to a lost life.

Only these bloodstains remained, a silent reminder of those who had once been here, their bodies long consumed.

“Yao, can you still use your ability?” Lin Xiwan asked, looking down at her sister, her voice low.

Although many zombies had been drawn to the burning vehicle below, there might still be some lurking inside the building.

She didn’t want to startle any – they were rather unnerving.

“Yes.” Lin Jiayao, her head resting against her sister’s chest, looked up, her eyes turning red as she activated Blood Crystal Vision, scanning the area.

“Below… about ten meters down… four or five red dots… and one on the right…”

She quickly described the distribution of zombies within the building.

Lin Xiwan made a mental note of their locations. “Okay, deactivate it, Yao.”

She knew her sister shouldn’t strain herself; healing her had taken a toll. She needed to rest.

She asked if her sister felt unwell, and receiving a “no,” turned to Huayibai.

“Xiao Yibai, hold onto Sister’s clothes, okay? Don’t be afraid.” Although she knew Huayibai was an Awakened who had been on missions with Survivor’s Light, she still felt the need to reassure her.

Huayibai looked so small and frail, not at all threatening, almost… cute. It evoked a protective instinct.

“Okay.” Huayibai nodded, gripping Lin Xiwan’s shirt tightly.

Ready, Lin Xiwan entered the office building, searching for anything useful.

And they actually found some things.

Two unopened rolls of toilet paper, a bundle of red plastic packing string, a genuine leather belt, and a crowbar.

As for food, there was none left, and even if there were, it would be inedible after so long.

After taking her sister to the restroom, Lin Xiwan rearranged her.

She crouched down, had her sister get on her back, then stood up, leaning against the wall to support her sister’s weight, and then secured her with the belt, wrapping it around both their waists, Huayibai helping to fasten the buckle.

Thankfully, they both had slender waists; a single belt was enough.

Then, using the red plastic string, she lifted her sister’s legs and, with Huayibai holding them steady, wrapped them around her waist, securing them.

Unsure how tight to tie them without restricting blood flow, she wrapped the string multiple times, not pulling it too taut.

Finally, her sister’s legs and waist were secured. Feeling the soft body pressed against her back, Lin Xiwan breathed a sigh of relief.

This was more tiring than fighting zombies, but she would be faster next time.

With her sister’s legs secured, she no longer had to worry about them dangling and getting injured.

“Yao, try holding onto my neck.”

Feeling her sister’s arms around her neck, Lin Xiwan stepped away from the wall. Her sister’s weight, now supported by the belt and the string, no longer strained her arms, and it wouldn’t be too tight for Lin Jiayao.

    Much easier to move now.

“Yao, you can sleep on my back if you’re tired,” she said, and then, carrying her sister, Huayibai trailing behind, left the office building.

Stepping out into the sunlight after so long in the darkness made her squint.

She saw the burned-out wreckage of their jeep, now just a blackened metal frame.

A thick layer of oily residue covered the wreckage, a foul stench even from this distance.

Lin Xiwan knew what it was: the rendered fat of the Biters that had thrown themselves into the flames, their bodies incinerated, only the thick, greasy residue remaining.

And within the oily residue, shimmering in the sunlight, were tiny specks of light – the blood crystals from their bodies.

A small amount, but valuable nonetheless. She could use them to trade for essential supplies if they encountered a traveling convoy or a camp.

Lin Xiwan, her left hand holding Huayibai’s, her right hand gripping the crowbar, walked towards the burning wreckage.

As they got within five meters, she felt Huayibai’s hand flinch in hers.

The heat was intense at this distance, and Huayibai seemed afraid of the fire, or perhaps the charred remains.

“Stay here, Yibai,” Lin Xiwan said, releasing Huayibai’s hand. “Wait for Sister.”

She walked closer, now less than three meters away, and through the thick layer of rendered fat, she saw something inside the wreckage.

    That is…

    Lin Xiwan’s eyes widened.

Several blood crystal stones, gleaming at the bottom of the vehicle, the charred frame offering no concealment.

So that’s why the zombies had been so frenzied last night.

Although they couldn’t retrieve the crystals, she could.

“Yao, hand me that,” she said, handing her sister the crowbar. After making sure her sister had a firm grip, she looked at the burning wreckage and took a deep breath.

There wasn’t much left to burn, just the rendered fat.

If she cleared some of it, she could use the crowbar to retrieve the blood crystals.

Glancing around, she found a suitable tool.

Walking towards the roadside, she gripped a triangular warning sign, its metal base embedded in the concrete.

    “Haaa—”

    “Crack—”

With a powerful tug, she ripped it free.

Carrying the sign, now like a large metal rod, she returned to the burning vehicle.

She shoved the sign under the wreckage and, with a heave, flipped it over.

After scraping away the burning fat, she used the sign to push the blood crystals out.

Five in total, coated in the greasy residue. The smell was unbearable; she didn’t want to clean them here.

Dragging the sign, she pushed the blood crystals towards Huayibai, waving. “Let’s go, Yibai.”

Although she had found toilet paper, wasting it on cleaning blood crystals was out of the question.

Finding a clothing store, she had Huayibai guard the crystals while she went inside and grabbed a few discarded clothes to wipe them clean. Then, excited, she patted her sister’s bottom playfully.

“Yao, look! Blood crystals! Five of them!”

She had never seen so many blood crystals at once. Her largest haul had been the two from the Corpse Bird.

“Mm…” Lin Jiayao mumbled, burying her face in her sister’s hair.

She didn’t seem very interested, perhaps because of the stench from the wreckage; she was clinging to her sister for comfort.

Having seen sixty blood crystals neatly arranged in her warehouse – although she’d quickly spent them – five wasn’t that impressive.

Lin Xiwan, seeing her sister’s lack of enthusiasm, assumed she was still sleepy.

She crouched down, put the crystals in her waist pouch, then took out two more.

Looking at Huayibai, she offered them to her.

“Xiao Yibai, this is your share. Let me know if you need more.”

    She smiled at Huayibai.

She still remembered Huayibai shielding them from the gunfire, throwing the grenade back; if at first she had seen Huayibai as a child in need of protection, now she saw her as a valuable teammate.

As expected of someone coming from Survivor’s Light, brave and resourceful in battle.

So, Huayibai deserved a share of the loot, and the remaining three were enough for them.

“Eh?” Huayibai stared at the two crystals, surprised.

She hadn’t expected Mommy’s… partner… to give her two.

    Should I accept them?

She looked at Lin Jiayao, who was leaning against Lin Xiwan’s back, her eyes closed.

Sensing Huayibai’s questioning gaze, Lin Jiayao looked up and nodded. “Take them.”

    “Okay!”

Huayibai beamed, took the crystals, and clutched them tightly.

I’ll save them for Mommy! she thought.

Although she was still injured, she didn’t intend to use them for herself. Her Mommy was more important.

She was a bit too well-behaved.

To make it easier for Huayibai to carry the blood crystals, Lin Xiwan took her back to the office building and found a small brown backpack. She put the crystals and some tissues inside.

Huayibai seemed to like her new backpack, bouncing occasionally as they walked, enjoying the clinking of the crystals inside.

With the newly acquired blood crystals, Lin Xiwan had two options.

Search the city for a camp and supplies, a potentially fruitless endeavor.

Or risk returning to the site of the previous battle and see if the Voodoo Cult had left anything behind.

Judging by their hasty retreat, they might have been responding to an emergency, leaving in such a hurry that they might have even abandoned some vehicles.

If they could find supplies and a working vehicle, they wouldn’t have to risk scavenging in the city.

“Yao? Asleep?” Lin Xiwan gently pinched her sister’s bottom.

“No, what’s up?” Lin Jiayao was busy in the Training Grounds, practicing with Goldie, preparing for another login, hoping for a new mental enhancement evolution.

After Goldie’s extraction, there would be enough time to check the Zombie Loot Box and the evolved fifth zombie.

She needed her zombies to reach B-rank so she could retain their evolved abilities.

Her current abilities, combined, were almost at peak C-rank, but she lacked a truly powerful skill.

And her logged-in zombies were all C-rank at most, A4 being the closest to B-rank, but it was still on its way back to the extraction point.

She’d asked Huayibai if she could turn the car around and take A4 back to Chongyu City, but Huayibai had said that A4 would jump out of the car and run towards the extraction point the moment she changed direction, so she’d abandoned that plan.

Perhaps after a few more… visits… to the Voodoo Cult’s headquarters, A4 would reach B-rank?

She just didn’t know if the fifth zombie, currently evolving, would reach B-rank.

If she could evolve all her zombies to B-rank, retaining their most powerful abilities, she would be truly formidable.

Although her progress was already incredibly fast, compared to other Awakened, she still felt… inadequate.

Especially compared to the B-rank Awakened she had encountered…

Lin Xiwan, hearing her sister was awake, explained her dilemma, hoping for some input.

And she’d asked the right person.

Lin Jiayao and Huayibai knew exactly what had happened to the Voodoo Cult convoy last night.

“Let’s go back to the battle site. We can at least check if they’ve left. Going into the city will put us on the same path as the Voodoo Cult,” Lin Jiayao whispered.

    “That’s true…” Lin Xiwan nodded.

Her sister’s concerns were valid. The city was dangerous.

More zombies, and definitely more powerful mutated ones, risking a confrontation with a horde, even for a C-rank Awakened, was dangerous.

And if the city was deserted, with no camps, they might even starve.

Both options were gambles. She trusted her sister’s judgment.

They turned back, Lin Xiwan carrying Lin Jiayao, Huayibai trailing behind, walking along the highway.

As they walked, Lin Xiwan scanned the surroundings, regularly having her sister use her ability to check for any hidden blood crystal entities in the nearby buildings.

Luckily, besides a few scattered zombies, the road was clear, eerily quiet.

Walking further, they saw crows circling overhead and feasting on corpses on the ground.

    “Caw—Caw—”

Sensing their approach, the mutated crows spread their large wings, as if trying to scare them away.

Just mutated crows, not zombie crows.

Lin Xiwan was about to stop when one of the approaching crows, seeing Huayibai, screeched and veered away, its feathers scattering as it fled in terror, like it had seen a predator.

    “Caw, caw, caw—”

The other crows, startled, also took flight, scattering in all directions.

    “Huh?” Lin Xiwan blinked, surprised.

Were even mutated animals this discerning now? Fleeing at the sight of a C-rank Awakened?

But this was good news. The presence of these crows meant the Voodoo Cult had already left.

She wondered why they had left in such a hurry… Internal orders? That seemed like the only explanation.

“Yao? Can you check again?” Lin Xiwan patted her sister’s bottom.

After Lin Jiayao confirmed there were no blood crystal entities in the area, Lin Xiwan led Huayibai towards the scene of the battle.

But as they walked, she realized something was wrong.

If she remembered correctly, the Voodoo Cult convoy had fought their out-of-control insect on the street over there… but had it really been that… destructive?

Voodoo Cult corpses littered the street, several vehicles overturned, most riddled with bullet holes.

It didn’t look like a battle against a zombie, but a fight between the Voodoo Cult members themselves.

A power struggle? Internal conflict? A purge?

    Lin Xiwan was completely bewildered.

    What had happened last night…?

Remembering the annihilated Voodoo Cult squad at the factory, she felt a chill.

Why did every Voodoo Cult group they encountered end up either dead or decimated?

Was the Voodoo Cult really that unlucky?

“Yao, what do you think?” she murmured, then realized her sister had fallen asleep.

After pinching her sister’s bottom and getting no response, she decided not to disturb her.

    I don’t understand…

    This place isn’t safe.

Better gather some supplies and leave quickly.

  • Sickly Girl Doesn’t Die in Zombie Simulator 113

Chapter 113: Left Embrace, Right Embrace

    “Holy shit—!”

The man by the window, seeing the head behind him, felt his strength drain away. He hadn’t felt this terrified in a long time, not since joining the Voodoo Cult.

    “Crack—”

The head’s bone spikes pierced his neck, the tendrils spreading through his body, draining his life force in an instant.

As his flesh withered, the head rapidly regenerated, a neck and shoulders forming.

Consuming a single human wasn’t enough for a full recovery, but the dozen or so grams of blood crystals in the man’s waist pouch would restore some of its abilities.

    “Shhh—”

Two bone blades, connected by tendrils, replaced some of the bone spikes previously used as legs, now functioning like arms.

This type of zombie wasn’t naturally suited for walking; the bone spikes had been a temporary adaptation, a result of consuming numerous bone-type zombies.

But with these blade-like arms, its agility and offensive capabilities had increased significantly.

    “Bang, bang, bang—”

    “Rat-tat-tat-tat—”

    “Whoosh—Boom—”

Gunfire and explosions from the opposite building, a rocket slamming into the window.

But before the rocket detonated, the blonde head had already smashed through the floor and dropped to the level below.

    “Holy shit—What’s happening?!”

“Why are they shooting at us?!”

“The lasers… that monster is above us!”

Two Voodoo Cult warriors, hiding in a room on the third floor, shouted over the gunfire and explosions.

    “Boom—”

A massive explosion shook the entire building, dust and debris raining down on them.

“Are they fucking insane?! We’re still inside!”

“Fuck! Let’s jump out the window!”

Just as they were discussing their escape, a frantic knocking came from the door, accompanied by terrified shouts.

    “Knock, knock, knock—”

    “Holy shit—! Holy shit—!”

The two froze, then one of them reacted.

“That’s Xiao Jiu! He was on the floor above us! He made it down!” The younger warrior dropped his rifle and went to open the door.

He and Xiao Jiu were close friends, sharing… similar interests… he instantly recognized the voice.

His friend was in trouble; he had to help.

But the other warrior stopped him, raising his rifle and aiming it at the door.

“Identification! Name! State your designation!” he shouted.

    “Knock, knock, knock—”

“Holy shit—! Holy shit—! Holy shit—!”

The person outside seemed not to hear, just repeating the same terrified phrase, the knocking continuing.

And each shout… was identical in tone and volume, like a broken record.

Listening to the monotonous cries and the explosions outside, the younger warrior realized something was wrong.

They both swallowed hard, raised their rifles, aimed them at the door, and slowly backed away.

    Suddenly, the knocking stopped.

Whatever was outside seemed to know they were on alert.

    “Crack—”

A gleaming blade pierced through the wooden door, tearing away a large chunk of wood.

Seeing the tendril-covered blade, they could no longer maintain their composure and opened fire.

    “Rat-tat-tat-tat—”

The bullets ripped through the door, seemingly hitting whatever was outside.

But they only saw a flash of blood, and then, their last sight, a blonde woman with black eyes, staring at them, her expression blank.

They felt countless tendrils, like blood-red threads, piercing their hearts, and then… darkness.

The process wasn’t painful. The rapid blood loss created a strange euphoria, and then their consciousness faded.

    “Gurgle—”

The blood-red tendrils, fueled by the flesh and blood, rapidly repaired the blonde zombie’s body.

It seemed to know this wasn’t enough for a full recovery, focusing only on the essential parts.

    Like its bones.

A skeletal figure, its skull still attached, materialized.

Although clearly human, the bones were streaked with blood, sharp barbs at the joints.

These bones allowed for agile movement and powerful attacks.

And its arms weren’t bones, but two massive blades, disproportionately large for its body.

Truly… putting all its points into offense.

It now had its previous agility and offensive capabilities, though its defense and blood crystal reserves were low.

A weaker version of its original form.

    But enough.

    “Boom—”

As soon as its bones regenerated, the head-skeleton jumped out the window, hooking its bone spikes onto the windowsill.

Looking down, it saw Wu Hejun below, her eyes glowing with electricity, her face contorted in rage.

    “Thump, thump, thump—”

Ignoring her, it climbed rapidly upwards.

    “Zzzt—”

    “ZAP—”

A massive bolt of red lightning struck the wall above, blocking its path and electrocuting several Voodoo Cult members who’d been about to lean out and shoot.

Seeing the… freshly cooked meat, the head-skeleton didn’t hesitate. The moment the lightning dissipated, it entered the building through the now-shattered window.

Inside the room, only a few charred corpses remained, their blood crystals untouched.

Its tendrils extended, instantly absorbing the crystals.

With its strength slightly replenished, it took a few running steps, smashed through the floor, and, its body a blood-red projectile, launched itself towards an Awakened in the opposite building, the one who had been targeting it with a laser pointer.

Mid-flight, the blades on its arms shifted and reshaped, becoming massive claws, three times the size of its face.

Its body arced through the air, a perfect parabola of crimson, its blood-red eyes fixed on the terrified Awakened.

    “Swish—”

Reaching the window, its claws slashed downwards, tearing through the glass and the wall, the person inside instantly dismembered.

Seeing this, the other laser pointers, different colors, quickly switched off, most losing track of the zombie.

    But it was too late.

During its flight, it had already calculated the locations of everyone who had been targeting it with lasers.

“Retreat! Everyone retreat! Behind me!!!” A lone figure shouted from the street below, her voice strained.

Despite her immense power, she couldn’t defeat this C-rank zombie and had been reduced to this… undignified display.

Other C-rank Awakened had tried attacking, but their attacks were either too slow, or ineffective.

Even bullets barely harmed it; it regenerated faster than they could inflict damage.

It was frustrating, having so much power, yet being unable to use it.

She could only watch as her men were slaughtered, one by one, her heart pounding with helpless rage.

The zombie was now among them; if she used her ability now, she risked harming her own people.

She might even kill more of her own men than the zombie.

This was why B-rank Awakened were usually deployed alone, with only one or two subordinates for support and communication.

Gathering her men had initially prevented the spread of the fungal infection, forcing the tendrils out of their bodies.

But it had also made them easy targets.

Now, she could only hope they could escape before too many were killed.

    “Aagh—”
    “Boom—”
    “Rat-tat-tat—”

Explosions and screams echoed from the surrounding buildings, then silence.

    What happened?

Had her men somehow… injured it?

    “Searchlights! Searchlights!”

Following her command, several beams of light shone from the rooftops, converging on a spot on the ground floor.

    The zombie was there, motionless.

But then, one laser switched off, then another, and another, a chain reaction.

    “Boss, we’ve lost it…”

One of the C-rank Awakened, the last to switch off his laser pointer, looked at their Boss cautiously.

He could see the rage simmering beneath the surface; he didn’t want to be the target of her wrath, but he had to report.

Losing track of it meant the zombie had escaped.

They had been played. A zombie, controlled by some unknown Awakened, had invaded their territory, slapped them in the face, pissed on them, and then simply… left.

A humiliating defeat. More humiliating than being killed.

The authority she’d built through years of ruthless efficiency and precise command had been undermined; some might even start questioning her Guangdong purge plan.

The consequences of letting that zombie escape were significant; it depended on how she handled the situation.

Meanwhile, the blonde zombie, now wearing a new black sweatshirt and sweatpants, its body showing no signs of injury, its skin even paler and smoother than before, was running through the city.

It seemed unconcerned by the earlier battle, the fight only a means to an end, to heal its injuries.

As soon as it had recovered, it had retreated.

It ran with incredible speed, reaching the outskirts of Chongyu City within an hour, stopping in front of a luxurious villa.

Its eyes quickly scanned the vehicles parked in the driveway, searching for a usable one. It opened a dusty toolbox and began rummaging.

Zombies had already appeared in the suburbs; even inside this villa, several Sprinters were lurking.

Seeing the zombie’s actions, the small, doll-sized Huayibai, clinging to its hair like a vine, lowered itself to its ear and asked curiously, “Mommy, are you going to drive?”

    “Yibai can drive!”

    A4: “…”

Five minutes later, four Sprinters were pulling a convertible sports car down the highway, sparks flying.

Feeling the sunlight on her face, Lin Jiayao’s eyelids fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes.

She shifted slightly, feeling… soft, fragrant pillows on either side of her head.

    And it was morning.

    “Mm…”

A sudden, sharp pain in her head, as if someone were drilling into her skull, jolted her fully awake.

The constant strain of logging into zombies, the increasingly long sessions, were taking their toll.

Even Lv.2 Vigor wasn’t enough; her mental state was deteriorating.

Unless she found an evolution that significantly boosted her mental fortitude, this would become a vicious cycle.

Weak mental strength meant shorter login times, shorter login times meant fewer evolutions, and fewer evolutions meant weaker mental strength.

    A dead end.

    “Yao?”

A gentle voice from above, and a warm hand gently massaged the back of her head.

The familiar touch eased the pain slightly.

“Still feeling drained?” Lin Xiwan asked softly, seeing her sister’s furrowed brow.

“Mm…” Lin Jiayao nodded against the “pillows.”

“It’s okay… it’s all over now,” Lin Xiwan said, hugging her sister tighter, seeing her exhausted expression. “They’re gone, they didn’t find us…”

It seemed she had mistaken the departing insect for the Voodoo Cult giving up their search.

“Okay…” Lin Jiayao snuggled against her sister for a moment, then, suddenly remembering something, looked around.

    “Where’s Yibai?”

    “Mommy!”

Huayibai’s cheerful voice, surprisingly loud, startled Lin Jiayao.

She turned and saw Huayibai standing in a shadowed corner of the room, waving at her. Seeing Lin Jiayao look at it, it ran towards them excitedly.

Ignoring its white dress and stockings, Huayibai knelt beside Lin Jiayao, its white hair gleaming in the sunlight, its eyes shining.

    Waiting for praise, clearly.

Even without seeing its expression, the series of system warnings and red alerts told Lin Jiayao that something had happened while she was half-conscious.

She patted Huayibai’s head and then leaned back against her sister, closing her eyes and opening the system interface.

    「Warning, warning」
    「Warning, warning」

A barrage of warnings flashed before her eyes, indicating her zombies had been attacked.

    「[Login] ②」
    「[Hideout] ①」

A red “②” on the Login interface, a “①” on the Hideout.

The Hideout alert was likely the Zombie Loot Box; she wondered what had happened with the login.

Hadn’t she just started the plan to transport A4 to the Voodoo Cult’s headquarters last night? Why the alarm now?

Feeling her sister’s fingers gently massaging her scalp, she opened the Login interface.

A red dot hovered not only over A4, but also over the fifth zombie.

Something had happened to the fifth as well.

The fifth was the purple-skinned, healing-type zombie, its massive size a result of being force-fed.

It had provided her with a useful evolution, allowing her to heal her sister.

But she wasn’t concerned about the fifth right now. She clicked on the red dot above A4.

    「-Warning-」
    「-Zombie is being transported-」
    「-Warning-」
「-Zombie is far from the extraction point-」
    「…」

    A long list of notifications.

Lin Jiayao scrolled through them, her confusion growing.

A4… had been transported to Chongyu City, 1200 kilometers away, within a few hours?

    She looked at Huayibai, blinking.

How… how had it done that?

Seemingly sensing her gaze, Huayibai puffed out its chest, a proud look on its face, as if expecting praise.

Lin Jiayao scratched its chin, like petting a cat, and then continued reading the notifications.

Its waist pierced… its head blown off… its body torn to pieces…

Such severe injuries? Had it reached the Voodoo Cult’s headquarters? Encountered a B-rank?

A4, with its ability to evolve and regenerate by consuming enemies, could only be injured like this by a significantly stronger opponent.

The further she read, the more incredulous she became.

A4, even while being pursued by a B-rank, was still regenerating?

Although constantly injured, its wounds were healing rapidly.

She could almost visualize the chaotic battle.

Knowing A4, it was probably fighting within a horde, constantly consuming zombies to heal, a tenacious cockroach, impossible to kill unless completely obliterated.

Reaching the end of the notifications, she saw that A4 was now moving towards… her.

It had already left Chongyu City? And at this rate, it would be back within three or four days.

Is this the power of the system’s autopilot? Escorting a C-rank zombie through a B-rank Awakened’s territory and escaping?

She would have to seriously consider transporting the second zombie, the Building-Tree Guardian, to the Voodoo Cult’s headquarters.

That would definitely cause some chaos.

And she needed to ask Huayibai how it had transported A4 so quickly. If she mastered that method, she could use her zombies to eliminate distant threats remotely.

And it wasn’t her who would be doing the work, but the system.

Lin Jiayao exited A4’s log and looked at the fifth zombie.

There was a simple warning message.

「Detected a large amount of residual blood crystals within No.5 [Unnamed]. Do you wish to proceed with evolution?」

Residual blood crystals within its body?

    Had someone been feeding it?

It seemed the fifth zombie was safe in Japan. She clicked “confirm evolution.”

The fifth slot went into a six-hour cooldown.

After checking these notifications, she opened the Hideout and looked at the Zombie Loot Box.

The Loot Box, now open, glowed with a golden light, as if containing something valuable.

And the zombie slot beside it was empty; the suit-wearing, tumor-faced zombie was gone.

Lin Jiayao opened the Loot Box.

[Obtained: Blood Crystal Stone x5, Blood Crystal Enhanced Machete x1, XL Suit x1, Men’s Underwear x1, Platinum Ring x1…]

    「Please retain your evolution」
「1、【Hemophagy (Purple): Allows you to analyze the abilities of a blood sample and mark it for tracking】」
「2、【Faceless Hunter (Purple): Greatly enhances your sense of smell at the cost of sight and hearing】」
「3、【Behavioral Mimicry (Gray): Allows you to mimic the behavior of your prey, disguising yourself from a distance】」

    Five blood crystals… not bad.

    And the other items…

Had the system looted everything from that zombie, down to its underwear?

    So ruthless.

Lin Jiayao transferred the five crystals and the machete to her warehouse, then looked at the evolution options.

Number 3 was useless, just a basic zombie disguise. Number 2 would disable Blood Crystal Vision, not a good trade-off.

    That left only number 1.

Although not a great evolution, at least she’d gained some blood crystals and a free evolution without expending any mental energy.

And she could keep repeating this process.

Without giving the [Zombie Loot Box] any downtime, after selecting the first evolution, Lin Jiayao put the machete into the Loot Box slot.

    Confirm.

The machete dissolved into dust, and in the display box beside it, a muscular Sprinter appeared, the extraction time below it: two hours.

It seemed the machete wasn’t very valuable, the assigned zombie also weak, but the extraction time was correspondingly short.

She left the underwear and suit, letting them disappear with the Loot Box.

At least let the zombie have some clothes; it had, after all, done some work for her.

After all, Lin Jiayao wasn’t a heartless capitalist.

She opened her eyes and looked at her sister.

Their current position… was rather suggestive.

Lin Xiwan was leaning against the wall, her left hand on Lin Jiayao’s waist, her right hand gently massaging her head.

And Lin Jiayao was lying against her sister, her head resting comfortably on her chest, her right arm around her sister’s waist, her left hand absentmindedly scratching Huayibai’s chin. Huayibai was sitting on the floor to her left, leaning against the bed, its eyes half-closed, a blissful expression. If it had a tail, it would be wagging furiously.

“Hungry?” Lin Xiwan asked, looking down at her sister, a smile on her face.

    Lin Jiayao nodded.

“Let’s go find something to eat.”

After playfully rubbing her sister’s face, Lin Xiwan lifted her, looked at Huayibai, who was now also standing, staring intently at Lin Jiayao’s left hand, and said, “Yibai, let’s go.”

    “Okay!”

Seeing that Huayibai was following, Lin Xiwan glanced at the still-burning vehicle below.

It was daytime now, most of the zombies having retreated to the shadows; she could check the wreckage now.

  • Sickly Girl Doesn’t Die in Zombie Simulator 112

Chapter 112: World Turned Upside Down!

The humanoid zombie disappearing into the building made it lose sight of its target, leaving only a few Awakened with vision-based abilities still able to track it.

“Hold your fire!” Wu Hejun roared, a wave of weak electromagnetic energy spreading outwards, a tingling sensation in the legs of everyone nearby.

The Voodoo Cult members, feeling the shock, stopped firing and began reloading, their weapons raised.

Before Wu Hejun could issue her next command, a green laser beam shot out, its dot moving rapidly across a distant building, tracing the zombie’s movements.

Several other lasers, different colors, converged on the same spot, the dot moving upwards.

The visual-type Awakened had located it.

    “Zzzt—”

An electromagnetic coil formed in front of Wu Hejun, pulling a nearby abandoned car towards her.

But instead of aiming at the middle floors of the building where the laser pointers converged, she aimed higher, anticipating the zombie’s ascent.

    “Whrrr—”

The car, propelled by the first electromagnetic coil, was accelerating towards the second when the laser dot suddenly moved sideways, across the building’s facade.

    “Crash—”

A figure burst through a window, a flash of blood, leaping towards an adjacent building.

    Damn it—!

Wu Hejun, her aim disrupted, quickly stopped the car, her hand gripping it, preventing it from entering the second coil.

She had anticipated its movement, but it had anticipated her anticipation.

    A battle of predictions.

    “Thump—”

The electromagnetic field dissipated; she wouldn’t waste her energy on long-range attacks.

Remembering the zombie’s uncanny ability to dodge, she wasn’t confident in her aim.

    She needed to calm down.

It’s just a C-rank zombie; it couldn’t get close to her.

Even with its precognitive abilities, it couldn’t dodge her point-blank electromagnetic burst, a 360-degree attack.

As long as she remained calm and composed, this zombie, no matter how tricky, couldn’t harm her.

“Everyone, behind me!” To avoid further infections or friendly fire, Wu Hejun grabbed the megaphone and issued her commands.

The Voodoo Cult members, still gathering, quickly moved behind her, occupying the street and the surrounding buildings.

They peered out from the windows, their rifles raised, ready to provide covering fire.

And about thirty others, men and women, instead of taking positions in the buildings, spread out behind Wu Hejun, assuming combat stances.

These were the Awakened who had remained in the city, most of them C-rank, not on missions.

The majority of their combat-oriented Awakened had been sent to Guangdong Province; most of those remaining weren’t strong fighters.

Had that zombie anticipated this, known that the Voodoo Cult’s forces were depleted?

Wu Hejun gritted her teeth, her temples throbbing.

She was usually the one exploiting weaknesses, not the other way around!

And she didn’t believe that fast-moving zombie was truly a zombie; it was definitely being controlled.

If zombies were this intelligent, neither Survivor’s Light nor the Voodoo Cult would have survived this long.

A truly intelligent zombie would be at least B-rank, or even A-rank, not a mere C-rank.

It had to be that person, the one controlling it!

    “Boom—”

Another explosion from a distant building, making Wu Hejun uneasy.

Although the lasers tracked the zombie’s general direction, the other buildings blocked their view; they couldn’t determine its exact location or how many buildings it had crossed.

And as expected, the laser dots started moving rapidly sideways.

    Wu Hejun instantly understood.

From its initial attempt to escape to this flanking maneuver, the zombie had no intention of facing her directly.

It was trying to attack her base and her men!

It knew it couldn’t defeat her.

But even if it couldn’t defeat her, could it defeat her subordinates?

Even if she engaged it directly, her own attacks might harm her men.

    A pyrrhic victory.

This was the kingdom of madness she’d built; she wouldn’t let anyone destroy it.

    “Zzzt—”

    “Boom—”

Two bolts of lightning shot from her hands into the ground, the force propelling her upwards.

    Mid-air, she saw the zombie.

Two or three blocks away, a figure running in circles, the dust clouds and shattered concrete marking its location.

    Found you—

    “Zzzt—”
    “Boom—”

Two more lightning strikes, landing in front of the zombie, forcing it to stop.

But the zombie simply rolled to the side and then resumed running in circles.

    Long-range attacks were ineffective.

Wu Hejun, still airborne, lashed out with a whip of red lightning, striking a construction crane on an unfinished building.

The force pulled her towards the crane.

Reaching the crane, she lashed out again, this time at a streetlight below, the lightning tether pulling her towards the ground.

She would land directly in front of the humanoid zombie.

If it didn’t stop, it would run straight into her.

And no matter which direction it moved, she was now much closer, it couldn’t circle around and attack her base.

As she descended, her body crackled with electricity, her eyes glowing red.

For most blood crystal entities, this was a sign of full power.

As expected, the zombie, realizing it couldn’t escape and couldn’t continue circling, slammed on the brakes and turned sharply, running back towards where Wu Hejun had come from.

It was trying to exploit her limited maneuverability in the air, to pass her.

    “Hmph—”

Seeing its movements, Wu Hejun quickly retracted her lightning whip, the red glow around her fading as she charged her attack, her body crackling like a thunderstorm.

    “You’re… dead…!”

She roared, and a series of red, concentric electromagnetic rings, like interlocking hoops of irregular shapes, expanded rapidly outwards.

    “Crackle—”

    “Rumble—”

The sound of thunder echoed through the streets as the spherical lightning expanded, instantly engulfing the blonde zombie.

    Heh… you’re dead… you clever little…

Nothing could survive her spherical lightning attack.

It looked like a red ball of lightning, but it was actually a complex structure of interlocking electromagnetic rings, like a woven ball of beads, but far denser, more intricate.

Like a multi-layered, expanding bird’s nest, each layer irregular and unpredictable.

Not even a mosquito could pass through it.

Wu Hejun felt her energy draining, but she maintained the attack, ensuring that the cockroach-like zombie was completely incinerated.

Looking at the zombie’s location within the electric field, a confident smile, she stopped the attack.

Heh, so you thought you were clever, huh? A weakling’s clever tricks are useless against absolute power…

    “What?!”

    She stared in disbelief.

As the electromagnetic field dissipated, she saw the zombie below.

    What… the… fuck…?

The zombie hadn’t been incinerated. It was standing there, amidst the fading electrical arcs, seemingly… unharmed, having dodged and weaved through the complex network of electromagnetic rings with an almost… graceful ease.

How… how is that even possible?!

This isn’t a bullet hell game!!!

    Then she realized.

    It hadn’t dodged everything.

Some of the unavoidable rings it had blocked with its massive blade, the scales on its body somehow mitigating the damage.

    But even that was terrifying!

Was this really just a C-rank? That agility was A-rank level! Even a B-rank wouldn’t be able to dodge everything!

No, its speed wasn’t A-rank, not even B-rank; it had anticipated her attacks!

That level of calculation… it was like a supercomputer.

This wasn’t humanly possible. It had probably calculated every possible outcome the moment she moved.

And to it, everyone else was moving in slow motion, every attack with a clear, optimal path for evasion…

In a game, this would be called… hacking.

No… impossible… no living creature could have such processing power… Don’t be ridiculous…

Looking at the zombie, having perfectly navigated her attack, Wu Hejun desperately tried to calm herself.

    It’s injured!

It didn’t dodge all of it!

    She noticed this immediately.

But she wouldn’t waste any more energy on the spherical lightning; the energy cost was too high, and the effectiveness too low. She might exhaust herself before killing it.

And the zombie, now wreathed in electricity, wouldn’t be as agile.

    This was her chance!

    “Thump—”
    “Boom—”

Stopping the attack, she landed heavily, a red spark as her feet touched the ground, and then, her body a blur of lightning, she lunged towards the zombie.

The blonde zombie didn’t dodge, as if knowing it was futile. It turned sideways, raising its left arm defensively.

Its arm, green and red veins pulsing, transformed into a massive shield, its surface covered in gleaming golden scales.

    “Boom—”

Red lightning crackled around her fist as she unleashed her full power, a devastating blow.

The force of the impact, the surge of electricity, ignited the surrounding area, a ring of fire around them.

The zombie’s shield shattered, its left arm a charred stump.

Its body was thrown back, landing ten meters away, its massive blade preventing it from falling.

“It’s over.” Wu Hejun slowly lowered her smoking, charred right fist, electricity crackling around her body.

Press the attack, don’t give it a chance to recover.

    “Zzzt—”
    “Boom—”

Almost instantly, she was upon it, a flash of lightning, her left fist, charged with electricity, connecting with the zombie’s face.

A perfectly aimed left hook, a headshot!

    “Boom—”

The force of the blow, its speed, was so great that the zombie’s head, before it could even react, was sent flying, its neck snapping.

The head, its face mangled, trailing sparks, crashed through several walls of a nearby building.

The zombie’s remaining neck stump, cauterized by the heat, didn’t even bleed.

Looking at the headless corpse, Wu Hejun’s rapid breathing slowed.

    Click—

The headless body twitched; it wasn’t dead yet.

    “Zzzt—”

    “Boom—”

    “Zzzt—”

    “Boom—”

Before it could move, she pressed her hands against its chest, unleashing another barrage of lightning.

And she didn’t stop, continuing to electrocute the corpse until it was nothing but charred fragments.

Overkill was always a good strategy.

    “Zzzt—”
    “Boom—”

Finally, the last burning piece disintegrated, and she breathed a sigh of relief.

Not even a god could bring it back now.

    “Hoo…”

Wu Hejun walked towards where she’d sent the head flying.

She always finished what she started.

After this, she needed to reassess… She would contact the other B-rank Awakened and then they would go to Guangdong Province together, to eliminate the threat she had seen in her vision, the one that would destroy all blood crystals.

She wasn’t a savior, but she, too, was a blood crystal entity; destroying all blood crystals meant destroying her as well.

She had to find a way to change the future.

Unfortunately, her precognitive abilities weren’t always accurate, the visions often fragmented and random.

Better safe than sorry. That was her motto.

But the battlefield had to be moved to Guangdong Province. She couldn’t let that threat reach Chongyu City.

Chongyu City was her base, where she had restored many essential production lines and had teams collecting raw materials and blood crystals.

To grow stronger in the apocalypse, she needed the Voodoo Cult, needed to… feed.

She followed the trail of destruction, the shattered walls, into the building.

The first floor was a large shopping mall, its interior walls flimsy. The head had flown through several of them.

    “Boom—”

She smashed through wall after wall, and then a terrified voice echoed in her mind.

    “Xiao Wu!”

Before she could even correct her, a vision flashed through her mind.

A blurry image of a head lying on the ground.

Bone spikes erupting from its neck.

And finally, the head, its face half-mangled, its hair matted with blood, crawling away on bone spikes.

That head… that blonde hair… that direction!!!

    Motherfucker!!!

Wu Hejun’s eyes widened in fury. She blasted through the mall’s outer wall, her body a blur of lightning.

    That fucking zombie!

    It wasn’t dead!

It hadn’t even tried to fight her! It had been targeting her subordinates all along!

    Rage and helplessness consumed her.

Like facing a circling vulture, its gaze fixed not on you, but on the chickens behind you, waiting for an opening to swoop down and feast.

And indeed, just as she’d imagined…

On the street below, a head, its neck supported by bone spikes, was rapidly crawling away.

A small, doll-like white figure emerged from its mouth, climbed onto its head, and sat down among its hair.

The head moved with incredible speed, like a giant jumping spider, navigating the uneven terrain of Chongyu City.

It crawled through a broken window, towards a figure standing nearby.

    “Huh?”

The figure, holding a rifle, paused, noticing the laser pointers now converging on him.

“Hey—wrong target! Hey!” He lowered his rifle, waving his left hand at the lasers.

He didn’t notice the head, suspended by a tendril, descending behind him, until it was right behind his head.

Had he moved into the zombie’s path?

Better move… and make way for it.

    He turned around.

    Chapter 111: OMG, It’s Hacking!

    “Click—”
    “Clack—”

The sounds of weapons being cocked echoed as the Voodoo Cult members raised their guns, aiming at the red dot in the sky.

    “Buzz—”

The approaching object was now within earshot, and confusion spread among them.

    What was going on?

That sound… wasn’t that one of their planes?

Why had the Boss sounded the alarm if it was one of their own?

    “Buzz—”

The flying object passed overhead, small, dark shapes falling from it.

    They looked like… people?

Then, the all-clear alarm stopped abruptly, a high-pitched whine replacing it.

    “Fire! Fire! It’s the enemy!”

The familiar, frenzied voice from the loudspeakers jolted them back to reality.

    The enemy?!

    “Bang—”

A sniper reacted instantly, firing at the giant insect in the sky.

The muffled shot seemed to be the opening salvo of a gruesome fireworks display. A hail of bullets followed, aimed at the falling figures.

    “Thud, thud—”

    “Splat, splat—”

Most of the falling figures were hit.

And even those who weren’t wouldn’t survive the fall from this height.

    “Slap—”

The first body hit the ground, a wet, squishy sound, like clay hitting marble.

It burst on impact, a spray of gore, splattering the crowd below.

Some of the gore even landed in the mouths of the Voodoo Cult members who hadn’t had time to put on their masks.

“What the fuck… are they all committing suicide? Are they insane?!”

    “Slap—Splat, splat—”

More bodies fell, bursting like fleshy bombs, though harmless without explosives.

Besides a few unlucky ones directly hit, they didn’t cause any casualties.

    “Rat-tat-tat-tat—”

    “Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang—”

The Voodoo Cult members ignored the falling bodies, continuing to fire at the large red dot in the sky.

A rocket, trailing flames, spiraled upwards, finally hitting its target.

The red light flickered and died, and the giant insect began to fall.

    “Good shot, Brother Liang!”

    “Haha! That was all me!”

Those below scattered as the insect fell, not wanting to be crushed.

    “Crash—”

The insect slammed into a building, embedding itself in the side.

    “Zzzt—”

A figure, trailing red lightning, appeared behind them, its movements so fast it left afterimages.

“Damn it…” Wu Hejun’s brown eyes flashed red, her rage building.

She wasn’t angry that a Voodoo Cult aircraft had been hijacked, but that most of her assembled men weren’t wearing masks.

And she could see… blood on their faces and mouths.

    “Motherfucker… motherfucker… motherfucker…”

A growing sense of dread, a premonition of something terrible, washed over her.

She didn’t know what it was, just that… something bad was about to happen.

Suddenly, she felt a gaze on her. She turned and saw a Voodoo Cult member looking at her, his expression blank.

In his hands were two submachine guns.

    “Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat—”

Muzzle flashes erupted as he opened fire, both weapons aimed at her, without warning.

    “Zzzt—”

But the bullets stopped mid-air, inches from her body.

Each bullet, frozen in time, its tip connected to her by a thin, twisting arc of electricity.

    “It’s you?! No… not you…”

    “Zzzt—”

A wave of electromagnetic energy pulsed outwards, engulfing the nearby Voodoo Cult members.

And as it expanded, the suspended bullets reversed direction, flying back towards the shooter.

    “Zzzt—”

The bullets, now charged with electromagnetic energy, embedded themselves in him, and his body, after flashing red, burst into flames.

As he burned, a charred black mass was expelled from his mouth, writhing on the ground before turning to ash.

“This is…” Wu Hejun frowned, looking at the fungal remains.

And the Voodoo Cult members who had been touched by the electromagnetic pulse were convulsing.

Almost half of them were vomiting fungal tendrils.

“Damn it…” Wu Hejun cursed, her surprise growing.

She’d been gone for only a short time, and almost half her men were infected…

If she hadn’t studied the fungus extensively, known how to use her ability to expel the tendrils with minimal harm, she would have lost even more men.

She looked up at the massive insect, half-embedded in the building.

It looked like it was dying, its legs twitching weakly, and the figure dangling beneath it was clearly visible against the white wall.

But the figure, bound and suspended, probably wasn’t important, likely just a low-ranking member who’d been caught during the fall.

    “Zzzt—”

Destroy everything, and it’s all good.

She could see the insect, even in its dying state, still spreading spores.

The spores, carried by the wind, even if she destroyed the insect now, the resulting infection would still be a problem.

She had to kill it, now.

Wu Hejun clenched her right fist and swung it at the distant building.

Red electromagnetic rings, like ripples in a pond, pulsed outwards from her wrist.

The concrete beneath her feet cracked, and debris floated around her, pulled by the energy.

She casually reached out with her left hand, and a bright orange road roller, caught in the electromagnetic field, floated towards her.

“Haaa—” She pulled her left hand back and then pushed forward.

The road roller was heavy, even for her. Without using her ability directly, although her push dented the metal slightly, it only moved a short distance.

But that small movement was enough.

It was now fully within her electromagnetic field.

As it passed through the first ring, the ring flashed red and contracted sharply.

The road roller accelerated, reaching the second ring.

The second ring also contracted, and the road roller’s speed increased further.

    “Buzz—Buzz—Buzz-Buzz-Buzz-Buzz-Buzz-Buzzzz…”

With each ring it passed through, the road roller accelerated, its orange body now glowing with electrical energy.

By the last ring, its speed was almost imperceptible, a blur of orange and red, a streak of lightning, slamming into the giant insect.

The Voodoo Cult’s prized flying transport exploded in a shower of bone fragments and flames, electricity crackling around it.

The road roller, its momentum undiminished, continued, punching a hole through the building and then, like a reverse lightning strike, shooting skyward.

    “Boom—”

The deafening sound of the explosion reached them only after the insect had been completely incinerated. The ground trembled slightly.

    “Holy shit…”

Those who had recovered from the electromagnetic pulse stared at the scene, awestruck.

This… this was the true power… of a B-rank Awakened!

Although it had taken a while to charge, that attack… that was beyond human… superhuman!

While they were still marveling at the display of power, no one noticed a burning piece of tendril, severed by the explosion, falling from the sky, carrying a small, charred, smoldering figure wreathed in electricity.

As it fell, the figure, a blonde woman, her eyes closed, slowly opened them, her blood-red pupils turning towards the Voodoo Cult members below.

She quickly adjusted her position, preparing for a rough landing.

But the burning tendrils wrapped around her twisted and spread, forming a thin, membrane-like parachute.

    “Thud—”

The makeshift parachute slowed her descent, then burned away.

She continued to fall, but now only from a height of eight or nine meters.

    “Thump—”

She landed, bending her knees to absorb the impact, raising a cloud of dust.

Golden scales erupted from her skin, then receded, as if resetting, extinguishing the flames and dissipating the lingering electricity.

She stood up and tore away the remaining tendrils, now just a small clump.

The tendrils coalesced, forming a small, white-clad figure, about the size of a child’s doll.

But the small figure’s face and clothes were covered in black burns, its expression exhausted, tears in its eyes.

As if it had been crying from the pain.

Seemingly unaware that the woman looking at it with cold, emotionless eyes wasn’t its Mommy, the small figure opened its arms and whispered weakly, “Mommy… Yibai is hurt…”

But the blonde woman, like a cold, unfeeling machine, seemingly not hearing, simply picked up the small, white figure and tucked it into her sweatshirt.

Then, she looked at the “blood crystals” scattered around her and at the extraction point, 1292.2 kilometers away.

“Fuck… fuck this…” she muttered, her words a string of censored beeps.

Then, without hesitation, she turned and ran towards the extraction point.

But a streak of lightning, faster than her, arced through the air, striking her in the lower back.

Her face twisted in a grimace, not of pain, but of annoyance.

A surprisingly expressive face, considering her earlier blank demeanor.

    “Shhh—”

Her right hand twisted, a massive bone blade, almost half the length of her body, erupting from it, gleaming in the moonlight.

She turned, her foot shattering the concrete beneath it, and ran towards the “blood crystals.”

She ran low to the ground, her blade dragging along, carving a deep furrow in the asphalt.

As she sprinted, her short sweatshirt, barely covering her upper body, rode up, revealing glimpses of her breasts.

    “Zzzt—”

Another electromagnetic charge, but this time, before it reached her, her head snapped to the right, the red lightning narrowly missing her left cheek.

    “Boom—”

The lightning struck the ground behind her. Wu Hejun, and all the Voodoo Cult members, Awakened or not, froze.

A C-rank Awakened couldn’t dodge a lightning strike, not even one specializing in speed and reflexes.

Even a B-rank wouldn’t be able to dodge Wu Hejun’s electromagnetic attacks consistently.

But this… zombie… it had dodged?

And not just dodged, but anticipated the attack!

Its incredible processing speed had seemingly predicted the trajectory of the electromagnetic blast!

How… how was that even possible?!

It was like playing Xerath and having every skillshot dodged by a scripting bot.

For the first time, Wu Hejun felt a sense of… unease… in Chongyu City.

    “Fire!!!”

As she shouted the command, the zombie instantly turned and, crashing through a wall, disappeared into the building.

    “Rat-tat-tat—”
    “Bang, bang, bang—”

The gunfire was too late, hitting only empty air.

The zombie’s reaction speed… was on a completely different level…

It’s her!!! It has to be her!!!

    She’s back!!!

  • Sickly Girl Doesn’t Die in Zombie Simulator 110p3

Chapter 110: Lightning Strike on Voodoo p3

Cultivating one of these “planes” was costly, so the C-rank Awakened had only crippled it, leaving it barely alive, waiting for a Voodoo Cult pilot to retrieve it.

This dying insect would be Huayibai’s transport.

Under its control, a group of about ten infected gathered in front of the insect.

They huddled together, their bodies rapidly withering, their heads tilted back, their mouths open towards the sky.

    “Crackle, crackle—”

Their drained bodies convulsed, and blood-red tendrils emerged from their mouths.

The tendrils intertwined, merging, extending upwards, reaching towards the insect’s head.

A massive, blood-red mushroom formed at the tip of the combined tendril, its glowing cap turning like an eye, fixing its gaze on the insect.

The withered bodies below, like gnarled roots, supported the growing fungus, their remaining life force fueling its growth.

The wind ruffled the large mushroom cap, scattering spores, which rained down on the giant insect, and its massive mandibles began to move stiffly.

    “Click—Click—”

The mandibles clicked open and closed, then, as if drawn by an invisible force, it opened its maw and swallowed the giant mushroom whole.

After swallowing the mushroom cap, it continued, consuming the entire stalk, grinding it down.

The fungal tendrils, entering its body through its mouth, began to spread, taking control of its mind and body.

The insect, previously only red on its back, was now covered in blood-red tendrils.

And from its head, like a giant Cordyceps, sprouted a massive mushroom with a crystalline cap.

The cap rotated, its surface shimmering, observing the surroundings.

    “Buzz—”

Its abdominal plates opened, and the Voodoo Cult members, their faces blank, their bodies controlled by the fungus, carrying weapons, filed into the insect’s belly.

After they were all inside, it spread its wings, slowly lifted off the ground, circled, locating Fuzhou City, and then flew straight towards it.

Among those controlled by Huayibai were some familiar with the area, so getting lost wasn’t a problem.

    “Buzz—”
    “Whirr—”

The buzzing from the sky and the engine’s roar woke Lin Xiwan.

She bolted upright, hugging her sister tightly, her eyes wide with fear, looking towards the source of the sound.

    Was it the Voodoo Cult?

    “Buzz—”

But the flying insect, without pausing, zipped past overhead, the wind ruffling their hair, and continued on its way.

And the engine’s roar below ended abruptly with a loud crash.

    “Boom—”

An explosion. Lin Xiwan, holding her sister, looked down and saw a Voodoo Cult monster truck embedded in a nearby building.

    Then… silence…

No other Voodoo Cult vehicles, just zombies, drawn by the explosion and the flames, converging on the wreckage.

Even the air seemed to hold its breath.

    What… just happened…?

Lin Xiwan, holding her sister, sat down against the wall, not daring to move.

The erratically driven, crashing vehicle, the rapidly departing giant insect…

    They hadn’t been chasing them.

She didn’t want to risk going down to investigate; she couldn’t leave her sister and Huayibai unguarded, vulnerable to Corpse Birds.

Her sister’s safety was her priority.

And it could be a Voodoo Cult trap. She couldn’t risk it.

Although they didn’t go down, the flames below intensified.

There didn’t seem to be any fire-resistant zombies in the city’s outer areas; the mindless Biters, rushing towards the flames, only fueled the fire.

Normally, zombies avoided fire. This suicidal behavior meant one thing.

A lot of blood crystals inside the wreckage.

So many that the zombies were driven mad by the scent.

But only a few had been attracted; after they were consumed by the flames, no more approached.

It had inadvertently cleared the area of any lurking Biters.

After about an hour, hearing no other unusual sounds, Lin Xiwan felt her exhaustion returning.

    But she couldn’t sleep yet.

Nuzzling her sister’s hair, inhaling her scent, she felt a surge of energy, the warmth of her sister’s breath against her chest a comfort, and continued to keep watch.

    Buzz—

The Blood Orb Fungus beetle, its belly full of passengers, sped through the night sky.

Flying creatures were much faster than those on the ground, especially for long distances.

And the fungus-infected insect could fly in a straight line, no need for detours.

What would take Lin Xiwan two or three hours by car, the insect could cover in half an hour, a speed of about 500 kilometers per hour.

Within thirty minutes, it had passed the Guangkun Highway, even seeing other convoys camped for the night.

It didn’t stop but continued into Guangdong Province, bypassing Qingzhou City, heading towards Fuzhou.

If all went well, it would pick up its passenger within an hour and reach the Voodoo Cult’s headquarters before dawn.

If Lin Jiayao slept for her usual eight hours, she would wake up to the news of A4’s attack on the Voodoo Cult.

This was much faster than she’d anticipated, thanks to Huayibai’s ingenuity.

And also Huayibai’s aversion to cars after the earlier incident.

And it also wanted to complete its Mommy’s task and earn her praise.

Less than an hour later, a buzzing sound echoed from the rooftop of a hundred-meter-tall building in Fuzhou City.

    “Buzz—”

The giant insect landed on the helipad, the wind from its wings scattering debris.

And in a corner of the rooftop stood a tall, slender, naked humanoid zombie, motionless, its eyes closed, like a statue.

One of the beetle’s plates opened, and a Voodoo Cult warrior, his body completely drained, emerged, his form shifting, transforming into Huayibai.

Perhaps due to insufficient energy, this was a smaller version of Huayibai, about five or six years old instead of ten.

Little Yibai, clutching its skirt, jumped from the helipad.

    “Splat—”

The helipad was quite high. Little Yibai hit the ground and splattered, a puddle of tendrils, reforming after a while.

It ran towards the motionless zombie, sniffing the air.

    Mommy’s scent… which Mommy…?

Having multiple mommies wasn’t strange to Huayibai.

It could create multiple copies of itself; its Mommy could surely do the same, what was so strange about that?

But this Mommy, like the one in Donghai City, was also standing motionless.

Having confirmed it was its Mommy, Little Yibai relaxed.

It ran to the blonde zombie, hugged its leg, and said in a childish voice, “Mommy! Yibai is here to pick you up!”

It nuzzled the zombie’s leg, but the zombie didn’t react.

No attacks, no movements, seemingly accepting Huayibai as an ally.

    “Hmm…”

Little Yibai stepped back, tilted its head, and examined the motionless, naked zombie.

Why is Mommy not wearing any clothes?

Huayibai didn’t know that Lin Jiayao’s zombies generated scales when she logged in.

Under Huayibai’s control, a female infected emerged from one of the Voodoo Cult vehicles and walked towards the humanoid zombie.

Little Yibai, after comparing their sizes, nodded and then had the infected remove her clothes and dress its Mommy.

Just simple sweatpants and a white sweatshirt, but enough for basic coverage, although the zombie’s midriff was still exposed.

After dressing its Mommy, Huayibai sent the infected back and then started generating tendrils from its own body.

The tendrils, like ropes, wrapped around the blonde zombie, binding it securely.

And Little Yibai’s body, having expended energy generating the tendrils, shrunk further.

Then, still generating tendrils, it ran towards the giant insect, its body shrinking with every meter, the tendrils extending.

Reaching the insect’s leg, it was now the size of a figurine.

    “Heave-ho—”

With a tiny grunt, Figurine Yibai hugged the insect’s leg and then, its entire body transforming into tendrils, merged with the insect’s fungal growths.

    Securely attached.

    “Buzz—”

The now fungus-infected insect spread its wings, lifted off the helipad, turned, and flew towards Chongyu City, the Voodoo Cult’s headquarters.

And the motionless, blonde zombie, bound by the friendly fungal tendrils, was carried aloft, dangling from one of the insect’s legs.

Even being moved didn’t activate it; the tendrils were considered a part of its own body.

If it had been ropes, or if someone had tried to carry it, it would have instantly activated and returned to the rooftop.

The insect flew high above, consuming a random Voodoo Cult member whenever it felt its energy waning.

Across mountains and rivers, through the night, towards Chongyu City.

From below, its massive, glowing fungal eye cap was visible, like a plane’s navigation lights.

Meanwhile, in Chongyu City, at the Voodoo Cult’s headquarters, in the Boss’s villa…

The previously flooded villa had been cleaned. The Boss lay on the floor, seemingly asleep.

Suddenly, her slender body twitched, as if having a nightmare.

The twitching intensified into a full-body seizure, beads of sweat forming on her forehead.

    “Aagh!!!”

She screamed, sat up abruptly, then curled into a ball, her lips trembling.

    “I see it… I can’t see… it’s coming… the reckoning is coming…”

Then, the trembling stopped, and a calm voice said, “What do you see?”

    “The reckoning… it’s approaching…”

“Those motherfuckers, they dare to come here?!”

    “Let’s run… Wu… let’s run… no… it’s too late… we can’t escape…”

“Run my ass. Didn’t you say it would destroy the world? What good would running do?”

“Junjun, can you see what it sent?”

    “C… no, mm… C-rank.”

The woman muttered to herself, then her eyes turned bloodshot, her expression turning manic.

“A fucking C-rank and you’re scared? I told you, He, you handle the organization, I’ll handle the fighting.”

“If I’d reached fucking B-rank sooner, seen the prophecy earlier, would we be in this mess? Unbelievable.”

“Xiao Wu… V, even if you had, it wouldn’t have mattered. This prophecy only appeared recently, and I can’t pinpoint the source…”

“Enough,” the Boss stood up, her eyes blood-red, and looked towards the door. “It’s V’s time now.”

    “Boom—”

The villa wall exploded outwards, and a figure, trailing blood-red lightning, emerged.

    “Boss?!”

The guards, startled, hadn’t expected the Boss to burst out in the middle of the night. They scrambled after her.

    “WOOOO—”

Someone sounded the all-clear alarm, its sound echoing through the Voodoo Cult-controlled district of Chongyu City.

Everyone, jolted awake, began to assemble, but there was no sign of any immediate threat.

The fuck? The all-clear alarm? Many Voodoo Cult members had never even heard it before.

Who the hell would attack their headquarters? Even Survivor’s Light at its peak wouldn’t dare!

And with the Boss’s precognitive abilities, if Survivor’s Light did send a team, they would retaliate by targeting their base in Donghai City, slaughtering the weak and defenseless left behind.

No one took the alarm seriously; they just assumed the Boss was having another episode.

    Thirty minutes passed.

A buzzing sound from the sky.

    Buzz—

Everyone looked up, their faces a mixture of shock and confusion, a red light rapidly approaching in the night sky.

  • Sickly Girl Doesn’t Die in Zombie Simulator 110p2

Chapter 110: Lightning Strike on Voodoo p2

Huayibai, seemingly exhausted, was lying against the wall.

Only Lin Jiayao knew it wasn’t asleep, but controlling its spores, its mind focused.

Unlike bone spikes or pheromones, which were like controlling puppets or issuing commands, the spores were more like creating clones.

Clones that inherited the host’s memories and habits.

But these memories and emotions, useless to the non-human Huayibai, didn’t affect it; it could control these “clones” perfectly.

For Lin Jiayao, however, using spores to control humans was mentally exhausting, the more she controlled, the greater the risk of mental breakdown.

It wasn’t an ability meant for humans, more for plants and fungi.

Not wanting to disturb Huayibai, Lin Jiayao shuffled closer to her sister.

Lin Xiwan had taken out half a blood crystal, the remainder from their shopping trip, and was crushing it with one hand. She picked out a small piece, about 3g, and offered it to Lin Jiayao.

“Give some to her…” she said, nodding towards Huayibai.

Lin Jiayao and Huayibai had exerted themselves the most and needed blood crystals to recover.

But low-rank Awakened couldn’t directly absorb blood crystals; their absorption rate was too low. The blood of an Awakened, infused with blood crystals, was more effective.

If they had to use crystals, then only a small amount. A few grams was enough for a D-rank Awakened like Huayibai.

And for a newly Awakened E-rank like Lin Jiayao, consuming blood crystals was still risky.

Lin Jiayao took the small crystal and put it in Huayibai’s mouth.

She knew her sister had mistaken Huayibai for a low-rank Awakened; this amount was barely a snack for Huayibai, but it was better than nothing.

Turning back, she saw her sister was about to put a piece of blood crystal into her wound.

    “Sister.” Lin Jiayao stopped her.

Solid blood crystals weren’t the same as the serum; their absorption rate was too slow, too taxing on the human body. That’s why the system’s Blood Crystal Serum was so expensive.

It wasn’t price gouging; it was genuinely more effective.

And shoving a blood crystal into a wound… that was painful!

Ignoring her sister’s confused look, she took the blood crystal fragment and put it in her own mouth.

“Hey! Yao?!” Lin Xiwan instinctively tried to stop her, raising her left hand, but it was still too painful to move.

The blood crystal dissolved in Lin Jiayao’s mouth, transforming into a liquid, absorbed by her tongue.

Lv.1 Liquid Blood Crystal Veins, liquefying blood crystals.

Although less efficient than the system’s Medical Station, she didn’t need a whole blood crystal right now.

“Sister, hold me,” she said, looking at her sister.

“Hmm? Oh…” Although confused, Lin Xiwan wrapped an arm around her sister’s waist, pulling her close.

Lin Jiayao looked down at her sister’s bleeding shoulder wound, bit her tongue, and licked it.

    “Hiss… haa—”

Lin Xiwan hadn’t known what her sister was doing until she felt something warm and wet on her wound. She’d gasped, but the stinging pain quickly subsided, replaced by a warm, tingling, almost itchy sensation.

Not unpleasant… and the soft, writhing… thing… on her wound was surprisingly… arousing…

A jolt of electricity shot down her spine, making her shudder, her teeth sinking into her lip to stifle a moan.

The painful wound, now rapidly healing, the sensation strangely… pleasurable…

Her sister’s tongue stopped, and Lin Jiayao’s hands pushed against her shoulder.

Lin Xiwan, her left arm regaining some mobility, understood.

She supported Lin Jiayao’s back with her left hand, her right hand on her bottom, lifting her slightly so she could reach the wound on her shoulder.

After healing the wound on her back as well, Lin Jiayao sat up.

The exit wound was larger, so it had taken a little longer.

Her tongue felt numb, lolling out slightly.

Lin Xiwan flexed her left hand.

The wound wasn’t bleeding; it had closed completely.

Although the underlying muscle would take time to heal, she could use her left arm now, as long as she didn’t exert herself too much.

    So powerful… my sister…

She flexed and extended her fingers, amazed.

“How… how did you do that, Yaoyao?” she asked, looking at her sister.

“Sister, put me down first,” Lin Jiayao said, her tongue still slightly numb, her words a little slurred.

Lin Xiwan realized she was still holding her sister’s bottom and quickly placed her on her lap.

If she’d had any doubts about her sister’s healing ability before, she was now a true believer.

But seeing the wound on her sister’s tongue, she frowned.

She now understood how her sister had healed her.

    Blood…

She must have bitten her tongue, or even cut her mouth… and she had… sucked… quite a bit of it…

How much blood had she lost to achieve such a potent healing effect?

As for liquefying or solidifying blood crystals, that was a basic skill for any healing-type Awakened.

Looking at her sister’s blood-smeared face and lips, Lin Xiwan felt a pang of guilt and affection.

She pulled her sister into a hug, nuzzling her head. “It’s okay now… they’re not chasing us…”

The jeep and their supplies were gone… Lin Xiwan bit her lip, a wave of helplessness washing over her.

Why… every time they found a glimmer of hope, the Voodoo Cult appeared, shattering it?

    Like a persistent curse…

But she had to keep going, to survive…

She stroked Huayibai’s hair and then patted her sister’s back gently. “Get some rest. I’ll keep watch.”

Her sister and Huayibai were exhausted; they couldn’t do anything for now. They would figure things out tomorrow.

Her hand lingered on her sister’s, a silent promise.

No matter what, she would get them out of this city, her sister and Huayibai, safely.

No matter the obstacles, as long as her sister was with her, she had the strength to keep going.

And Lin Jiayao, nestled in her sister’s arms, felt the same.

The same desire to survive, to protect each other.

But their approach to the Voodoo Cult differed.

Her sister wanted to run, because that was their only option.

But Lin Jiayao was thinking of… retaliation, and she had a plan.

    No more running.

She remembered her sister, covered in blood, lifting the car roof amidst the chaos and smoke.

The memory of her sister’s pain made her heart ache.

    She had reached her limit.

    You forced my hand…

She had never wanted to destroy the Voodoo Cult as much as she did now, and she was already putting her plan into action.

Although Lin Jiayao and Huayibai appeared to be resting, their eyes closed, they were communicating telepathically.

Just now, at the cost of half the Voodoo Cult convoy, Huayibai had taken control of the entire group.

A single, spore-coated bullet, hitting the C-rank Awakened, had turned the tide of the battle.

Having gained control of the remaining Voodoo Cult members, Huayibai had asked its Mommy what to do with them.

Huayibai had wanted to execute them on the spot, leave a clone to collect the blood crystals, and then have the clone self-destruct.

But Lin Jiayao had other plans.

Right now, the Voodoo Cult was in the open, while she was hidden.

And she knew the location of their headquarters.

Ignoring Huayibai’s repeated questions for now, Lin Jiayao asked the system mentally, “If a logged-in zombie dies after extraction, is there any… compensation?”

「If the zombie has extracted, the system will preserve its state as it was at the time of extraction.」

As if piqued by her implied doubt, the system added, 「Its condition will only improve, not worsen.」

The system’s confidence was… reassuring. It seemed confident that even a dying zombie, after extraction, would be stabilized until the next login.

“Impressive,” Lin Jiayao said, then continued, “And will my logged-in zombies attack me, or each other?”

    「No」

Perhaps pleased by the compliment, the system finally answered this long-standing question.

“Then, let’s say, hypothetically, other zombies approach a logged-in zombie, what will it do?” Lin Jiayao paused, adding, “A completely non-threatening horde, even friendly ones.”

「As long as the system detects no threat, the zombie at the extraction point will remain in standby mode and will not activate.」

Hearing this, she didn’t ask any more questions.

After a while, a system prompt popped up.

    「What are you planning?」

But the system wouldn’t get an answer.

Lin Jiayao was busy giving Huayibai instructions.

“Yibai, control them, have them drive,” she said, nuzzling her head against her sister’s chest, a small smile playing on her lips. “To Fuzhou City, to pick someone up.”

If the Voodoo Cult wanted to play dirty, then so could she.

So, a B-rank Awakened was too powerful for her, huh?

Then let the system deal with it.

She would have Huayibai use the Voodoo Cult members, now friendly units thanks to the spores, to drive A4 to the Voodoo Cult’s headquarters.

A4, having consumed spores, considered the infected to be allies and wouldn’t attack them.

There wouldn’t be any danger, and A4 wouldn’t be activated.

Once A4 reached the Voodoo Cult’s headquarters, she would have Huayibai’s clones attack the Voodoo Cult from within, making them think A4 was also an enemy, provoking them to attack and activate it.

    A system-controlled, practically unkillable A4, unleashed within the Voodoo Cult’s headquarters…

Even if it couldn’t destroy them, it would cause chaos!

She hadn’t been able to do this before, without Huayibai.

Now, with Huayibai’s help, her plan could finally be put into action.

「Friendly reminder: Such malicious exploitation of the system is akin to shooting oneself in the foot. Please reconsider.」

“And if A4… breaks out of the Voodoo Cult’s headquarters, what will it do?”

「It will run back to its extraction point, which could be hundreds of kilometers away. And if the host logs in, they will also have to extract from that location within a few hours.」
    「Please consider the implications.」

“Oh… then I won’t log in. I’ll just wait for it to return.”

「The system strongly condemns such malicious non-login behavior.」

“Yes, yes, I’m sorry,” Lin Jiayao apologized casually.

Sorry, but she wasn’t changing her plans.

This would effectively waste a zombie slot, and she couldn’t log in during that time.

Logging in meant an extraction point hundreds, even thousands, of kilometers away.

    Certain death.

    But she didn’t care.

There was a price for everything, and if she wanted to mess with the Voodoo Cult, she had to be willing to pay it.

A few days without access to A4, in exchange for crippling the Voodoo Cult… worth it.

They had hurt her sister too many times; she would destroy them.

After finalizing her plan, Lin Jiayao fell asleep.

She’d barely rested these past few days, mentally and physically exhausted, the recent battles having taken their toll.

And Huayibai’s control over the spores was even more refined than she’d anticipated.

It hadn’t chosen to drive; controlling so many people while driving was too difficult.

After collecting the blood crystals, it had a Voodoo Cult member drive the crystals towards Wuchuan City.

The other spore-infected were gathered around the massive, dying insect.

Cultivating one of these “planes” was costly, so the C-rank Awakened had only crippled it, leaving it barely alive, waiting for a Voodoo Cult pilot to retrieve it.

Chapter 110: Lightning Strike on Voodoo p1

    “Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang—”

Half of the bullets, passing through the shattered car window, now just a narrow slit, hit the man.

Although not as accurate as the system’s auto-aim, it was enough.

The bullets ripped through him, leaving fist-sized holes in his back.

    His internal organs were shredded.

As he coughed up blood, the beetle zombie finally arrived, its carapace shielding him from the remaining bullets.

    “Clang, clang, clang—”

The bullets, hitting the beetle’s spiky, red carapace, sounded like metal on metal, only denting it. Bone-type zombies, once they reached C-rank, were incredibly durable, their armor impervious to ordinary bullets.

    “Drip—”

A few drops of blood landed on Lin Jiayao’s face. Lying on her sister’s and Huayibai’s laps, she heard her sister’s weak voice.

“Yao…” Lin Xiwan’s lips trembled, blood trickling down her chin. “Fuel…”

    Fuel?

The approaching headlights grew brighter, and a pungent smell reached Lin Jiayao.

Suddenly, she realized, her eyes widening.

The crushed jerrycans in the back, the ruptured fuel tank!

The jeep, and the surrounding area, were covered in gasoline, a potential inferno!

And the Voodoo Cult was approaching.

Thankfully, perhaps because of the C-rank Awakened’s death, the beetle zombie, still in its protective stance, hadn’t moved.

But its body trembled; it could break free from the mental control at any moment.

    “Haaa—”

Lin Xiwan kicked the crushed driver’s side door, sending the twisted metal flying.

    “Click—”

Lin Jiayao barely had time to reload before her sister grabbed her and, carrying Huayibai with her left arm, Lin Jiayao with her right, burst out of the jeep and ran towards a nearby residential complex.

There weren’t any large structures along this stretch of highway, only this residential complex offered any potential cover.

    “Buzz—”

As they entered the complex, the beetle zombie, freed from the mental control, spread its wings.

It had transformed from a controlled entity into a mutated zombie.

And just then, the main Voodoo Cult force arrived.

Before they could even drive into the complex, the beetle zombie charged, its sudden attack scattering the convoy, causing casualties.

But it was a large convoy, led by at least two C-rank Awakened; they weren’t easily defeated.

The ensuing battle bought Lin Xiwan some time.

She carried the two girls into a first-floor apartment.

After kicking aside a lunging Biter, she stumbled, her strength failing, and fell to her knees in front of the sofa, coughing up blood.

Having shielded her sister and Huayibai from the C-rank beetle zombie’s impact had ruptured her internal organs.

With her Awakened reflexes, she could have kicked open the door and used the jeep as a springboard, jumping to safety before the beetle landed.

But she couldn’t have done that while also protecting her sister and Huayibai.

So she had taken the full force of the impact.

    “Boom—”

A loud explosion from outside, and the incessant buzzing of the insect’s wings stopped. It seemed the beetle had been dealt with.

“Gasp… gasp…” Lin Xiwan collapsed onto the sofa, her black, curly hair covering her face.

Although her expression was hidden, her ragged breathing and the blood trickling from her lips showed she was incapacitated.

“Sister?!” Lin Jiayao, having fallen when her sister collapsed, crawled to her side.

The fighting outside had stopped; the Voodoo Cult would be here soon.

She had indirectly destroyed one of their precious flying transports, a creature they’d likely spent years cultivating; they wouldn’t let her go.

Lin Jiayao sat beside her sister, gently pushing her hair back, revealing her pale face.

    “Rat-tat-tat—”

    “Clang—”

The sounds of Voodoo Cult vehicles and gunfire echoed through the complex; they were firing indiscriminately at the first-floor windows.

In the flashing lights, they quickly spotted a figure in a first-floor living room.

A little girl with white hair and blood-red eyes, wearing a white dress.

    “She’s over there!”

All eyes turned towards the apartment.

    Searchlights illuminated the windows.

Behind the small girl, they could see two women lying on the floor, covered in blood. The little girl stood by the window, her arms spread protectively, a futile gesture given her small size.

The sight amused the Voodoo Cult members.

    “Woohoo! Jackpot!”

    “Holy shit, three women!”

“Hey, little one, standing there like that, are you eager for Uncle to examine you?”

Several Voodoo Cult warriors, seeing the scene, holstered their rifles and rushed towards the apartment.

    Too eager? You’re too late!

“Yibai… run… take Yao…” Lin Xiwan, seeing this, her face pale, a look of despair in her eyes.

    “Thump—”

A red glow emanated from her heart; she tried to use her ability.

But before the blood-red veins could even reach her limbs, she coughed up blood.

She was too badly injured to use her ability.

“Yao…” Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at the rifle in her sister’s lap.

But before she could say anything, her sister’s face was suddenly close to hers.

    “Mm…”

Lin Jiayao’s mouth covered hers, silencing her.

Lin Xiwan’s senses were dulled; she only felt her sister’s tongue in her mouth, unaware of what she was doing.

Lin Jiayao wasn’t just kissing her.

Blood-red tendrils extended from her throat, one of them wrapped around a Blood Crystal Combat Stimulant, pushing it down Lin Xiwan’s throat.

And from her warehouse, having just spent a blood crystal stone on a vial of Blood Crystal Serum…

    “Shhh—”

The stimulant, guided by the tendrils, pierced Lin Xiwan’s esophagus, reached her heart, and injected its contents.

Simultaneously, a large amount of Blood Crystal Serum flowed through the tendrils, pouring down Lin Xiwan’s throat.

It all happened in a second. The tendrils quickly retracted.

Fueled by the stimulant and the serum, Lin Xiwan’s body began to rapidly recover.

And Lin Jiayao’s saliva, mixed with the serum, also aided in the healing process.

By the time the tendrils retreated, Lin Xiwan had almost fully recovered her senses, even aware of her sister’s tongue in her mouth, though still unsure what she’d done.

She only knew that her strength was rapidly returning.

    This… was her sister’s ability?

    Such potent healing?!

Ignoring everything else, she focused on recovering.

Taking a deep breath, a sweet taste filling her mouth, she quickly stood up.

The Voodoo Cult members were almost at the window.

But just as they were about to climb in, a voice blared from a loudspeaker behind them.

“What the fuck are you doing?! Shoot them! Open fire!!!”

It was the C-rank Awakened who had fought the beetle zombie, having bandaged his wounds, returning to assess the situation.

And what he saw made his blood boil.

They had the Awakened surrounded, and instead of shooting them, his men were… trying to… rape them?

What the hell were they thinking?!

His roar snapped them out of their stupor, and they raised their weapons, firing at the window.

    “Rat-tat-tat-tat—”

    “Bang, bang, bang—”

The most eager ones, those closest to the window, were shot from behind by their own comrades.

And inside the living room, hearing the gunshots, Lin Xiwan had already scooped up her sister.

“Xiao Yibai!” As she lunged towards Huayibai, a bullet pierced the window, hitting her left shoulder.

It had narrowly missed Lin Jiayao’s head.

Lin Xiwan, ignoring Huayibai, rolled to the side, out of the line of fire, and looked back at the little girl, who was standing by the window, her arms spread wide.

No, I have to save her.

This child, whom they’d only met this morning, was shielding them from the gunfire.

Even if it meant getting shot again, she would save her.

    “Thump—”

Placing her sister down against the wall, Lin Xiwan felt a powerful heartbeat, a surge of strength filling her body.

She’d never felt so strong. And the bullet wound in her shoulder… it didn’t even hurt.

As she looked towards the window, her eyes widened at the sight before her.

Bullets, tracers among them, streamed through the window, but Huayibai stood there, seemingly unharmed, even the bullets that pierced its heart having no effect.

The bullets didn’t even draw blood, just pushing Huayibai back, embedding themselves slightly before falling to the ground.

Suddenly, Lin Xiwan remembered Huayibai’s ability to make its body soft, like rubber…

    Even more powerful than Luffy’s!

As Huayibai was pushed back by the gunfire, now within reach, Lin Xiwan lunged forward and pulled her to safety.

Huayibai’s body, surprisingly, wasn’t even bleeding.

It just looked at Lin Jiayao, its face crumpled, and said, “Mommy… Yibai can’t use her ability…”

    “Clink—”

Even amidst the gunfire, Lin Xiwan heard the distinctive sound and saw a grenade rolling towards them.

Before she could react, a small hand snatched the grenade and tossed it back.

    “Boom—”

The grenade exploded a short distance away. Thankfully, they were shielded by the wall.

Huayibai was familiar with grenades; she’d been blown up by one before.

She wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.

“Let’s go!” Lin Xiwan scooped up her sister, grabbed Huayibai with her left hand, and then, with a powerful kick, shattered the wall in front of them.

    “Crash—”

Blood-red cracks spread across the wall, and then they burst through the debris.

    “Rumble—”

A rocket slammed into the wall where they had just been, the heat on their backs. They were now at the back of the complex; one more wall, and they would be out.

The Voodoo Cult hadn’t surrounded the building; this was good.

    “Boom—”

Kicking through another wall, Lin Xiwan, carrying her sister and Huayibai, unleashed her C-rank Awakened speed, running towards the city center.

Against a motorized enemy, running through the open or on the roads was suicide; the city’s narrow streets and alleys were their best chance.

After about ten seconds, the Voodoo Cult reacted, stopping their gunfire and starting their vehicles.

But then the vehicles stopped again, gunfire erupting, the sounds echoing even from this distance.

Lin Jiayao and Huayibai, one in each of Lin Xiwan’s arms, exchanged glances. They both knew what had happened.

As Huayibai had been hit by the bullets, they had ricocheted, carrying spores.

And Lin Jiayao, before leaving, had also left a little “gift” – synergistic pheromones.

The Voodoo Cult members, their masks protecting them from the spores, were still vulnerable to the pheromones.

Controlled by the pheromones, they had removed their masks and started licking the spore-covered bullets, falling under Huayibai’s control.

A perfectly coordinated attack, without a single word exchanged.

Lin Xiwan, unaware of what was happening behind them, had carried her sister and Huayibai into the city, leaping between buildings, finally reaching the roof of a small, ten-story office building.

She stopped, panting, and looked back.

The night was dark, no sign of pursuit.

“What happened…?” After confirming they weren’t being followed, she gently put down her sister and Huayibai and sat down, catching her breath.

She wouldn’t enter Wuchuan City until she was certain they were safe; if there were any powerful zombies inside, they would be even more dangerous than the Voodoo Cult.

After about a minute, still no sign of pursuit, Lin Xiwan frowned.

“What’s going on…?” Her breathing had calmed. She looked at her sister and Huayibai, sitting beside her.

That had been a close call… Thankfully, her sister and Huayibai had been there.

If Huayibai hadn’t drawn their attention, hadn’t lowered their guard, her sister wouldn’t have been able to heal her.

Thinking about that healing, she looked intently at her sister.

“What’s wrong, Sister?” Lin Jiayao asked, having been communicating with Huayibai, finally noticing her sister’s gaze.

“N-nothing…” Lin Xiwan shook her head, suppressing the question in her mind.

Her sister’s healing ability was too powerful; she worried about the side effects.

Even healing-type Awakened usually didn’t have such potent abilities at the initial stages, not instant, complete healing like her sister had just demonstrated.

    It was almost… miraculous.

Her hand had almost been broken by the impact, her internal organs ruptured, causing severe internal bleeding.

After carrying them to the apartment building, she’d collapsed, her consciousness fading.

And then her sister had turned her over and… kissed her?

Just a few seconds, and her strength and awareness had returned, and she had felt… her sister’s tongue in her mouth.

Just saliva… and it had such a potent healing effect?

She hadn’t thought much of it at the time, but now… it seemed too… improbable.

There had to be some sort of side effect, right?

She had heard stories about healing-type Awakened sacrificing their own life force to heal others…

“Yao,” she asked, her voice filled with concern, her hand gripping her sister’s shoulder. “How… how did you heal me? Are there any side effects?” She carefully examined her sister, worried.

“No side effects,” Lin Jiayao said, seeing her sister’s concern. “Just… felt a little drained for a moment, almost fainted.”

“Really?” Lin Xiwan poked and prodded her sister, relieved she seemed unharmed. She sat back against the wall.

    “Hiss—”

A sudden, sharp pain. She’d been in a state of heightened awareness earlier, even the shrapnel in her back and the bullet in her shoulder hadn’t registered.

But now, the adrenaline fading, the pain in her shoulder was unbearable. She couldn’t even move her left arm.

Huayibai, seemingly exhausted, was lying against the wall.
