Girl Doesn’t Die in Fairytale Town: Chapter 56 – The Rain Has Stopped
Illusory snowflakes drifted from the gloomy sky, falling upon the collapsing city, a scene of desolate beauty.
Whether it was the pervasive blood mist or the crimson monster rooted to the ground, they were as fragile as paper before these snowflake-like spatial rifts.
The bandaged girl curled up slightly, her one visible eye gazing blankly at the surroundings, searching for something.
But with Yan City’s energy systems shut down and in radio silence, she found nothing.
She wandered aimlessly, her small, bare feet stepping on the rubble, the crimson monster howling in pain beside her.
Even with its immense vitality, it was helpless against the hyperspace severance.
The “Witch of Envy’s” mental abilities couldn’t affect the bandaged girl’s numbed soul, and its massive, twisted body became a burden, preventing it from escaping the “hyperspace severance,” inevitably pushing it towards the abyss of destruction.
Foul-smelling, corrosive blood gushed from countless wounds, falling like a dark red downpour.
Luo Yan, witnessing all of this, breathed heavily. She could vaguely guess that Hua Qiling wasn’t here, but was communicating with her through some device.
In that case, she had to leave this dangerous place immediately, or rather, get away from this dangerous bandaged girl.
The surrounding skyscrapers were unfamiliar to Luo Yan, who had only ever been in the small town, but fortunately, most of them were now ruins, so she didn’t have to worry about getting lost. She simply had to move away in a straight line.
The flickering spatial rifts spread, gradually reaching Luo Yan’s location.
With the remnants of her demonic power, Luo Yan barely managed to avoid the rifts opening around her, moving towards the edge of District Two.
But after such a prolonged battle, Luo Yan was mentally exhausted.
And with her demonic power dwindling, she began to hallucinate, strange scenes flashing before her eyes.
A burning village, endless black rain, purple-brown flames falling from the sky, twisted monsters crawling from the cracked earth…
She seemed… to have witnessed all of this before.
After another wave of dizziness, Luo Yan saw a spatial rift opening before her, but she couldn’t stop in time.
She desperately tried to move her body, to avoid it, but her exhausted body wouldn’t obey.
Just as Luo Yan was about to collide with the spatial rift, a weak, childish voice, slightly hoarse, echoed in her ear.
“Finally found you… Luo Yan… Sister…”
As the voice faded, the spatial rift was forcibly closed, and Luo Yan passed through unharmed.
“Huff… huff…”
After a moment of fear, Luo Yan immediately looked towards the source of the sound.
The bandaged girl had stopped, staring intently at her.
Her one visible eye was completely gray, devoid of emotion, yet filled with tears.
Another wave of dizziness washed over Luo Yan, a splitting pain in her temples.
When her vision cleared, everything around her had changed.
Although she was still in a ruined city, there were now countless fragmented corpses scattered around.
Severed limbs and rubble were mixed together, the flowing blood forming rivers that reached Luo Yan’s ankles.
Amidst this carnage, a small girl with icy blue hair stood, her petite body trembling.
She wore a beautiful floral dress, soaked in blood, and in her hand, she held a neatly severed hand, a beautiful ring on its ring finger.
Luo Yan saw the little girl, and the little girl saw Luo Yan. In an instant, the gray eye filled Luo Yan’s vision.
“Sister… where’s Mommy? Where’s… Mommy…?”
…
After a brief yet eternal three minutes, the “weapon’s” activation time limit was reached, and Yan City’s energy shutdown ended.
From afar, they could see the blood mist in District Two slowly dissipating.
The shadow of the giant crimson monster was gone, the ruined district bearing no resemblance to its former prosperity.
This unexpected “Peril” level disaster had ended with the deployment of the “Ice Coffin Weapon,” but the cost to Yan City was immeasurable.
—Although, considering they had faced a “Peril” level disaster and the power of a Primordial Demon, they had been incredibly lucky.
However, for the Yan City Anomaly Management Bureau, their work wasn’t over.
“Unable to detect the ‘Witch of Envy’s’ aura in District Two. The ‘Ice Coffin Weapon’ was effective.”
“Suppression program successfully activated, observing that the ‘weapon’ has ceased its ability release.”
“Codename ‘F-03,’ ‘Hyperspace Severance patient,’ deployment complete. Preliminary danger neutralized. Disaster Response Department, please commence retrieval operations.”
Commands from Yan City headquarters came through Hua Qiling’s earpiece, followed by Li Ping’s voice on her personal channel.
“Xiao Hua, the weapon retrieval mission is assigned to you.”
Hua Qiling finally snapped back to reality. The relief and relaxation in the broadcasting room seemed distant, her expression somber.
“Acknowledged, Director-General.”
“…Perhaps the person you’re looking for is still alive.”
Li Ping added softly.
He had watched Hua Qiling grow up. How could he not see her worries?
Although he knew nothing about what had happened in Ghost Town, he could see the weight on Hua Qiling’s mind, written all over her face.
But no matter what, Li Ping couldn’t gamble the fate of an entire mega-city on someone he didn’t know or understand.
“Using the excuse of manpower shortage, this mission is assigned solely to you,” Li Ping whispered. “As for the report, write it as you see fit, including the mission in Ghost Town.”
This was the greatest leniency Li Ping could offer, a small compensation.
Hua Qiling was silent for a moment, then said,
“Alright.”
In truth, she wasn’t confident.
Although Miss Luo Yan possessed many unknown secrets, even the “Peril” level crimson monster hadn’t survived the terrifying power of the “Ice Coffin Weapon,” let alone Miss Luo Yan…
But… perhaps a miracle could happen?
Hua Qiling shook her head, took a few deep breaths, and calmed herself.
No matter what, she had to see the result for herself.
She looked out the window. The ruins of District Two were silent, a faint crimson flowing through the rubble – the corrosive blood of the monster.
The rain had stopped.
