    Chapter 15: Villain, Die!

Old Qiu said, “Indeed. We’re certain this is a matter of grave importance, yet we know nothing about it. To be frank, our organization is called ‘Dark Thunder.’ Our members are all righteous martial artists who oppose the barbarian court, and our goal is to one day expel the barbarians and restore our Chinese lands.

“But the barbarian court is powerful, and many treacherous martial artists in the Six Gates serve as their accomplices. Although we have some skilled members in Dark Thunder, they are mostly in the central plains. The West Shu Province is relatively remote, and we only have a small number of people here. The situation is urgent, and we couldn’t find more experts in time, so we had to target County Mistress Li Tong.”

Shi Hao nodded and suddenly asked, “Is the female thief the Six Gates have been searching for these past few days also one of yours?”

Lu Tong said, “She’s not one of us. On the contrary, her sudden appearance has alerted the enemy and made things more complicated.”

Shi Hao said, “After your failed attempt yesterday, the Marquis’ residence will undoubtedly strengthen their protection of County Mistress Li Tong.”

Old Qiu and Lu Tong both looked helpless.

Shi Hao said solemnly, “I understand County Mistress Li Tong has a senior sister named Du Yuejiao. If we can capture her, perhaps we can also obtain information related to the God-Sealing Experiment?”

    Old Qiu hesitated, “That…”

Lu Tong said, “Unlike County Mistress Li Tong, Du Yuejiao is Zhuo Mulan’s direct disciple. Zhuo Mulan is definitely involved in the God-Sealing Experiment at Ming Kun Monastery, and as her disciple, Du Yuejiao must also be aware of it.

“But Du Yuejiao has been cultivating orthodox Chongxian Sect techniques since childhood, and her swordsmanship is exceptional. None of our people in Jin Prefecture are a match for her. Moreover, as a skilled member of the younger generation of the Chongxian Sect, she likely possesses one or two magical weapons.”

Old Qiu sighed helplessly, “Don’t underestimate her just because she’s young, Righteous Hao. Our plan yesterday was based on confirming she wouldn’t be attending the Red Tong Banquet.

“Her strength is likely comparable to the young master of Small Han Mountain City. If she had been there yesterday, no matter how many men we had, we would have had to retreat.”

Shi Hao said, “Don’t worry, you don’t need to do anything. I just need you to do two things for me. First, I need information about the terrain around Ming Kun Monastery and the general routines of its members. Since you were originally targeting Ming Kun Monastery, you must have already investigated.

“Second, I need a place in Jin Prefecture where no one will find us. To be precise… I need a prison.”

He said coldly, “A prison where no one will notice, no matter how I torture her.”

Old Qiu and Lu Tong exchanged glances. Old Qiu gritted his teeth and said, “Rest assured, kind sir. We’ll take care of it.”

Leaving the secluded residence, Shi Hao walked alone through the market.

He came to a blacksmith’s shop and bought a kitchen knife.

There was a time when the barbarian court had decreed that ordinary people were not allowed to purchase kitchen knives individually. Five households were allowed to share only one knife, and purchasing one privately was illegal.

This regulation was still technically in effect, but it was no longer enforced, and no one cared.

After all, in this world of martial arts and supernatural abilities, ordinary people posed no threat to the barbarian court, no matter how many kitchen knives they possessed.

The greatest threat to the barbarian court remained the rogue martial artists who defied the law and operated outside their control.

It was an ordinary kitchen knife, with a wooden handle and a dark blade, reasonably sharp.

The blacksmith assured him it would be perfect for chopping meat and bones.

Shi Hao tucked the knife into his waistband, covering it with his outer robe, and walked through the crowded market.

After passing through a group of people, he subtly changed his appearance and, blending into the crowd, reached another street.

After wandering around for a while, he returned to his residence at noon.

After lunch, he placed the Jade Clarity Stone in the sunlight for half an hour, retrieved it, and then cultivated alone in his room.

In the evening, he left again, changing his appearance with the Evil Shadow Disguise Technique and exiting the city before the gates closed.

He arrived at a dense forest outside the city, where a woman emerged, “Righteous Hao.”

    It was Lu Tong.

Shi Hao took a stack of documents from her and then left.

The kitchen knife was still tucked into his waistband.

He used his light-foot skills to reach the outskirts of Ming Kun Monastery.

Ming Kun Monastery, located halfway up the mountain, was a grand and luxurious Daoist temple. It was now evening, the stars shining brightly in the night sky, the moon a crescent.

Shi Hao extended his hand, and with a flash of fire, he burned the documents in a secluded spot.

He had to admit, Dark Thunder’s intelligence gathering was thorough.

Ming Kun Monastery, as a branch of the Chongxian Sect in Jin Prefecture, had many skilled Daoists, making it difficult to infiltrate.

However, even the Chongxian Sect, the self-proclaimed “orthodox leader of all Daoist sects,” needed people to deliver food, clean latrines, and perform other menial tasks.

These tasks were carried out discreetly, away from the eyes of the seemingly otherworldly Daoists.

No one would bother them with such trivial matters, which allowed their cultivation to proceed undisturbed.

Old Qiu and the others had clearly planted people among these insignificant laborers, gradually gaining a clear picture of the inner workings of Ming Kun Monastery.

In the forest, Shi Hao looked up at the cold moon. Tonight, the moon was a thinner crescent than last night.

The next full moon was about twenty days away. Then, he could return to the Primordial Grotto Heaven.

With a flicker, he melted into the darkness, disappearing like a ghost—

Inside Ming Kun Monastery, in an elegant pavilion, incense burned, and the curtains swayed gently.

The night breeze, carrying the fragrance from the flower garden outside, drifted through the window screens, filling the pavilion. The light in the corner wasn’t from a candle but a round crystal sphere.

Inside the sphere was Night Fragrance Grass, a spiritual herb that emitted a soft, even glow in the dark, something even wealthy families couldn’t easily acquire.

The young woman sitting at the table, her bare shoulders glistening with water droplets, wore only a light red skirt that reached her chest. Without a belt or sash, the skirt flowed naturally, leaving much to the imagination.

Recalling the young man’s arrogant and disdainful tone from that morning, Du Yuejiao’s eyes still flashed with anger.

She had never been looked down upon like that in her life.

She remembered his tone when he claimed to have reached the eighth rank in just one year, that arrogant demeanor as if he thought everyone else was a fool. It was incredibly infuriating.

Having cultivated in the Chongxian Sect since childhood, Du Yuejiao knew the hardships of cultivation.

Others saw her as a young genius, having reached the eighth rank at such a young age, full of spirit and vigor, but they didn’t know the effort she had put in.

“Just some unorthodox scum,” Du Yuejiao snorted. “Acting all high and mighty.”

Thinking about it, she found it amusing that she would even care about such a person.

And he was a country bumpkin who didn’t even know that the Chongxian Sect had monopolized the ingredients for refining the Nine Ranks Immortal Formula. He had even gone to a common apothecary like the Chuan Jin Treasure Pavilion to try and buy them.

Du Yuejiao pursed her lips, looked at her reflection in the polished bronze mirror, and thought it was ridiculous that she had almost been angered by a country bumpkin and unorthodox scum.

Now that she thought about it, it was mainly his tone, when he claimed to have reached the eighth rank in just one year, that had irritated her so much.

Why should she even bother with him?

An unorthodox country bumpkin like him couldn’t possibly obtain those immortal ingredients, let alone advance to the seventh rank.

She, on the other hand, had a bright future!

After calming herself, Du Yuejiao put the country bumpkin out of her mind and sat on her bed in the lotus position to cultivate.

The Chongxian Sect not only controlled the spiritual herbs and leaves required for refining the Nine Ranks Immortal Formula, but also possessed numerous Daoist cultivation techniques.

She was currently practicing a technique called the “Divine Orchid Technique.” When circulating the technique, her true energy would seep through her skin, emitting a faint fragrance that filled the room.

She was close to mastering the Divine Orchid Technique. Once she reached its peak, she could request the seventh-rank Immortal Formula from her sect and advance to the seventh rank.

After cultivating until midnight, her meridians felt much smoother, but her mind started to wander. Continuing would yield diminishing returns.

She stopped cultivating and went to sleep.

As dawn broke, she got up, washed up, and changed into a beautiful and elegant Daoist robe with an auspicious cloud pattern.

The “auspicious cloud pattern” was formed by embroidering ruyi scepters and lingzhi mushrooms in the shape of clouds, giving the robe an ethereal and exquisite appearance.

Although it was a Daoist robe, its craftsmanship was exquisite. The wrap-around robe had a pleated skirt.

While it was clearly a Daoist robe, it looked more like an “embroidered cloud-patterned dress resembling a Daoist robe.”

She picked up her three-foot-long sword and, instead of using the main door, leaped from the balcony of her pavilion.

“Junior Sister Yuejiao, practicing your sword so early again?” the Daoist guarding the main gate asked habitually.

Du Yuejiao nodded slightly, polite but unsmiling.

She floated out, heading deep into the back mountains, then into a dense, ancient forest. Passing a cliff face, she arrived at a secluded valley shrouded in mist.

This was where she practiced her swordsmanship daily, a place unknown even to others within Ming Kun Monastery.

Surrounded by mountains, with a stream flowing through it, the valley was always filled with mist, even in this season.

She began practicing her swordsmanship, the blade flashing. Suddenly, she frowned, turned sharply, and shouted, “Who’s there?”

“You’re quite skilled, Miss Du!” A figure emerged from the dense forest, hands clasped behind his back.

It was a young man in a grey tunic, his features sharp and grim, his forehead high, his nose slightly hooked.

His appearance wasn’t handsome, but rather cold and ruthless.

Every step he took radiated a scorching aura.

This aura felt ominous and out of place, as if it didn’t belong in this world.

“A demonic cultivator?” Du Yuejiao quickly assessed.

Only a demonic cultivator would possess such a bizarre and unsettling aura.

“Not only skilled, but also perceptive, Miss Du!” The young man in grey actually smiled.

The shadow on his hooked nose deepened, “Hearing of your presence here, I, though unworthy, came to pay my respects.”

Du Yuejiao raised an eyebrow, her face turning grim. She spun around, her sword pointing at him.

The blade stirred the mist, as if drawing the first rays of dawn from the sky, “Who is this villain seeking death before me?!”

“It seems you’re not only skilled and perceptive, but also confident, Miss Du!” The young man smiled strangely, “In that case, allow me to experience your skills firsthand!”

With a disdainful, mocking smile, he drew the kitchen knife from his waistband.

Seeing the kitchen knife in his hand, Du Yuejiao’s eyes burned with uncontainable rage.

Killing intent radiated from her, her body trembling slightly with anger…

Holding the kitchen knife, despite his provocative words, Shi Hao didn’t dare to be careless.

Using the Soul Chasing Locking Steps and sensing Du Yuejiao’s energy flow, he had been able to follow her undetected to this secluded location.

Otherwise, even if he knew she was in the mountains, he wouldn’t have been able to find this hidden valley.

However, as he tried to approach stealthily, Du Yuejiao had detected him first.

This proved her exceptional skills. His initial plan of a surprise attack seemed overly optimistic now.

Du Yuejiao formed a sword seal with her left hand, her sword gleaming, its intent radiating outwards.

She was like a night-blooming cereus suddenly blossoming in the valley, her sword intent cold and sharp.

Like a north wind sweeping down from an icy mountain in winter, even before she moved, the chilling aura was intense.

The anger in her eyes further fueled this chilling sword intent, letting Shi Hao know that his provocation had been successful… perhaps too successful!

This girl’s arrogance, stemming from being a member of a “renowned and orthodox sect” like the Chongxian Sect, was, in Shi Hao’s view, her greatest weakness.

However, in terms of combat experience, Shi Hao knew he wasn’t much better than her.

So far, he had only experienced two battles, one on Disordered Chess Mountain and one on Red Mountain.

Although he had been outnumbered in both, none of his opponents had been eighth-rank experts.

He let out a disdainful sneer and stepped forward without hesitation, his demeanor arrogant, his heart cold.

He channeled the Mysterious Charm Technique, transforming the Severing Meridian Burning Heart Finger into the Severing Meridian Burning Heart Saber. The black iron kitchen knife in his hand was engulfed in flames.

“Be careful, Miss Du!” He made himself appear even more menacing, like a seasoned thug.

He said in a teasing tone, “Swords and knives have no eyes. Wouldn’t want to scar that pretty face of yours. That would break my heart.”

“Villain, die!” Her furious gaze, like a stone disturbing the surface of a lake, replaced her usual cold demeanor with rage.

Her chilling sword intent erupted, and in the next instant, like a violent storm, it swept towards the young man with the hooked nose—

Chapter 14: The Conferred God Experiment (God-Sealing Experiment)

Shi Hao’s haughty tone irritated Du Yuejiao.

Having cultivated in the Chongxian Sect since childhood, she couldn’t imagine anyone embracing the label of “unorthodox” with such pride.

She gripped the hilt of her sword, glaring at Shi Hao.

Unfazed, Shi Hao sneered, “So, you’re going to kill me just because I tried to buy some medicinal ingredients?”

Du Yuejiao snorted, drawing her sword an inch, the blade gleaming, “Speak! What is your purpose in infiltrating the Marquis’ residence and colluding with the attackers yesterday, pretending to save my junior sister?”

Shi Hao said disdainfully, “Since you’ve already decided I was working with those masked attackers, what’s the point of talking? If you have evidence, go ahead and inform the Six Gates. Let them come and arrest me.”

He ignored her and continued walking.

Du Yuejiao shouted, “Don’t think I won’t kill you here and now!”

“Of course you would!” Shi Hao retorted. “The Chongxian Sect is the orthodox leader of all Daoist sects. What’s it to you to kill someone without proof? If you want to kill me, just draw your sword.”

He continued walking, ignoring her, until he reached the end of the alley and turned onto a dirty, dilapidated street.

Although Du Yuejiao had half-drawn her sword, her killing intent clear, she ultimately didn’t attack. The anger in her eyes, however, intensified.

Finally, she sheathed her sword with a clang, “Hmph! Cowardly unorthodox scum!” She turned and left.

Shi Hao walked down the street where the poor resided, a dirty and chaotic street crowded with people, some in rags, some children as thin as sticks.

Jin City was located in West Shu, geographically far from the central regions and provinces like Jiangzhe and Huangdong.

But recently, more and more refugees had been arriving from the east.

These refugees, with nowhere to go, mostly crowded into these neglected areas, where people died every day.

The officials and the wealthy never saw these people. Their lives, their deaths, were like dust particles rising and falling in the shadows, never touched by the glittering lights of the wealthy.

These Chinese people, living on Chinese soil, from birth to death, couldn’t escape the oppression and humiliation of foreign rule. Their lives were lowly, their deaths pitiable.

Shi Hao hated that he couldn’t do anything for them.

Passing through this shadow-shrouded area, he was surrounded by listless gazes, eyes devoid of hope.

He felt his body, under their gaze, growing as cold as their eyes, yet he couldn’t suppress the burning anger within him.

He crossed a stone bridge, passing a street vendor pushing a cart. On the other side of the bridge, the scene changed dramatically. Red-light districts, luxurious pavilions, and fragrant carriages, as if he had entered a different world.

Shi Hao walked back to his residence in silence.

After a while, he sensed someone watching him.

He discreetly used the Soul Chasing Locking Steps, sensing the energy flows around him, and finally locked onto his targets.

Two people were following him. He turned at a stall and casually glanced back. The two quickly hid among the crowd, avoiding his gaze.

Although it was just a quick glance, Shi Hao saw that they were both men, dressed in the common brown clothes of the lower class, keeping their distance from each other, both wearing conical bamboo hats.

He thought to himself, “They don’t seem like people from the Chongxian Sect. Could they be Six Gates agents? No… they don’t feel like it either!”

A patrol of soldiers passed by, and the two men instinctively turned their backs to them.

It was clearly a subconscious, instinctive reaction.

Even though the soldiers hadn’t noticed them and weren’t there to arrest them, they still did it involuntarily.

Shi Hao seized the opportunity, slipping into a side alley while they were distracted by the soldiers.

The two men arrived moments later, looking around. Not seeing him, they ran into the alley.

A young man approached from the opposite direction. He was about the same height as their target, but his features were sharp and angular, with a slightly prominent hooked nose. He wasn’t the person they were tracking.

They glanced at him and continued running, exiting the alley.

One of them said grimly, “Where’s that kid?”

The other spat angrily, “Looks like he got away. Damn it!”

Unable to find their target, they gave up and left…

The young man with the sharp features and hooked nose discreetly followed behind them.

He had to admit, the skills taught by the Enchanting Fire Witch were incredibly practical in the martial world.

The Evil Shadow Disguise Technique had its limitations. It couldn’t subtly control his facial muscles to perfectly imitate someone else.

But altering a few key features, like raising his forehead, widening the bridge of his nose, and making his facial contours more defined, was enough to make him look like a completely different person.

The Soul Chasing Locking Steps allowed him to lock onto other martial artists’ energy flows. At this moment, he didn’t even need to use his eyes; he could pinpoint their location simply by sensing their energy.

This made it impossible for the two men, despite constantly looking back to check for tails, to detect him.

Occasionally, they would stop and hide in the shadows, making sure they weren’t being followed, before continuing.

Shi Hao knew they weren’t being so cautious because they suspected they were being followed.

It was their environment that forced them to be constantly vigilant.

As they entered a secluded area, their pace quickened.

Guided by their energy flows, Shi Hao stayed close behind.

They arrived at a large courtyard and slipped inside.

Shi Hao silently scaled the wall and hid under the eaves, listening to the conversation inside.

“We ran into that barbarian lapdog from Red Mountain yesterday,” one of the men said angrily. “I wasn’t at Red Mountain yesterday, but Old Yang recognized him. That’s the guy who injured his wrist.”

A woman’s voice followed, “I heard he’s very skilled. Yesterday’s plan should have been flawless, but he ruined it single-handedly. You didn’t cause him any trouble, did you?”

Shi Hao felt he had heard this woman’s voice somewhere before.

The other man replied, “We followed him, wanting to see who he was, but we lost him.”

An unfamiliar old man’s voice said, “Be careful. Don’t let him follow you instead.”

The two men said, “Don’t worry, Old Qiu!” “We were very cautious. We made sure no one was following us.”

Shi Hao’s mind raced, and he suddenly said, “You can’t be so sure!”

His voice startled everyone inside. The sounds of rushing wind filled the air, and a flying knife shot out the window, spinning.

A young woman leaped out, caught the knife, and landed gracefully.

A figure stood beneath a tree, leaves rustling in the wind, casting dappled shadows on him.

She said in surprise, “It’s you?”

Several figures rushed out of the house and surrounded the young man under the tree.

Besides the two men, there was also an old man in a long robe and several other martial artists, each possessing at least ninth-rank strength.

They looked at the young man under the tree with surprise and suspicion. The old man quickly glanced at the young woman, “You know him?”

The woman put away the flying knife, “He’s one of us! This is the righteous man who killed the Rat and Bat Duo and those Six Gates lapdogs on Disordered Chess Mountain, saving those two children.”

The old man in the grey robe was moved. He cupped his hands towards the young man under the tree, “May I ask where you come from, kind sir, and what brings you here?”

Shi Hao looked around. The young woman was the one who had killed Zhao Haisong with a flying knife on Disordered Chess Mountain.

The other martial artists, although they had surrounded him, softened their stance after learning he was the “righteous man” who saved the two children.

Shi Hao looked at the old man and said slowly, “I apologize. The two men I followed in the street were tracking the same target as me. I didn’t know if they were friend or foe, so I followed them discreetly. I apologize for disturbing you.”

The two men exchanged glances, shocked.

They had been extremely cautious along the way, yet someone had still managed to follow them undetected.

This man’s abilities were truly incredible.

The old man thought to himself, “This man managed to follow us here and hide undetected. If he hadn’t spoken, we wouldn’t have even noticed him. Since he revealed himself, he probably doesn’t mean any harm. Besides, Tong’er saw him kill the Rat and Bat Duo and those barbarian lapdogs with her own eyes. He must be an ally.”

He waved his hand, signaling the others to step back. He cupped his hands towards the young man, “Please come in, kind sir.”

    Shi Hao bowed, “Please.”

He followed the old man into the hall.

The hall was sparsely furnished, with a simple wooden table, a few stools, a ceramic tea set, and some coarse tea.

The old man invited him to sit down and asked, “May I ask for your name, kind sir?”

Shi Hao said calmly, “My surname is Hao.”

He had changed his name slightly, using a homophone.

The old man didn’t mind that he only gave his surname. After all, they were strangers, and caution was necessary.

The old man said, “My surname is Qiu. Everyone calls me Old Qiu.”

The young woman beside him smiled, “My name is Lu Tong.”

Shi Hao nodded, “Old Qiu, Miss Tong.”

Old Qiu said, “Since you revealed yourself to us, kind sir, you must have something to ask?”

Shi Hao asked solemnly, “Why were you following the young master of Small Han Mountain City?”

Old Qiu said, “The young master of Small Han Mountain City? So, the one who protected Marquis Wusu Baoteng’s daughter at Red Mountain yesterday was the young master of Small Han Mountain City? As far as I know, Small Han Mountain City isn’t a martial arts sect. I didn’t expect their young master to be so skilled.”

Shi Hao knew that these people had their own organization and would eventually discover his identity, even though they were currently operating in secret and their information was slightly outdated.

It was better to reveal it himself as a gesture of goodwill from “Righteous Hao.”

He said slowly, “Indeed. I heard that the barbarian lapdogs in the Six Gates are investigating his martial arts background, so I followed him discreetly to see what secrets he might be hiding. I didn’t expect to run into your people.

“I initially thought the two men following him were from the Six Gates, but I realized I was mistaken when I recognized Miss Tong’s voice.”

Lu Tong, dressed in a light green skirt, poured him a cup of tea and asked in surprise, “The Six Gates are investigating him? Isn’t he a barbarian lapdog serving the Marquis’ residence? He injured more than a dozen of our people yesterday while protecting that County Mistress Li Tong.”

Shi Hao slowly shook his head, “It seems that’s not the case. Yesterday, he was simply invited to the banquet as the young master of Small Han Mountain City and was inadvertently caught in the crossfire.

“Neither the Marquis’ residence nor the Six Gates knew he possessed martial arts skills beforehand. That’s why I became curious about him, wanting to know his background, so I followed him secretly.”

Old Qiu said, “So, although he protected the barbarian County Mistress yesterday, he only injured our people’s wrists, forcing them to retreat, but he didn’t kill anyone. According to those who were there, his swordsmanship is divine and profound.”

“With such skill, if he had intended to kill, our people probably wouldn’t have escaped unscathed. It seems we still need to observe whether he is friend or foe. It’s very likely he was just caught in the crossfire.”

Shi Hao was worried that these people would specifically target him, the “barbarian lapdog.”

He wouldn’t know whether to kill them or not, so he decided to clear things up beforehand using a different identity.

Shi Hao slowly asked, “Why did you try to capture County Mistress Li Tong? Just because she’s Wusu Baoteng’s daughter?”

He deliberately laced his tone with disapproval, as if he looked down upon such actions that implicated innocent people.

Old Qiu and Lu Tong exchanged glances.

Old Qiu lowered his voice and said, “Since things have come to this, we won’t hide it from you, kind sir. We didn’t intend to kill her, but to capture her. We wanted to exchange her life for a secret from the Chongxian Sect’s Ming Kun Monastery.”

    Shi Hao asked, “What secret?”

He paused, “It’s alright if you can’t tell me.”

Old Qiu shook his head, “There’s nothing I can’t tell you. We received intel that the Chongxian Sect’s Ming Kun Monastery is conducting a secret experiment with the Yue Ke Tai clan, a prominent barbarian family. It’s said that this initially disregarded hypothesis, deemed improbable, unexpectedly succeeded.

“Our informant within the Chongxian Sect only managed to reveal a few clues, letting us know that this experiment is called ‘Conferred God.’ Its success could potentially reshape the martial world, allowing the barbarian court and the Chongxian Sect to truly rule it. But he was killed before he could reveal more.

“Security is tight at the Ming Kun Monastery due to a recent theft. Left with no other choice, we decided to capture County Mistress Li Tong. She’s the disciple of Recluse Zhuo of Ming Kun Monastery and also Wusu Baoteng’s daughter. By capturing her, we hoped to force Ming Kun Monastery to exchange the secrets of the ‘God-Sealing Experiment’ for her life.

“Unfortunately, despite our careful planning, our efforts were thwarted at the crucial moment by the young master of Small Han Mountain City.”

Shi Hao frowned, his slightly hooked nose appearing even more sharp and grim, “God-Sealing Experiment?”

    Chapter 13: Du Yuejiao

Qiu Jiangping frowned as he looked at Shi Hao.

Beside him, Du Yuejiao said sharply, “One year? I heard every single attacker was ranked and worked together seamlessly, fighting fearlessly. To survive their attack, one would need at least eighth-rank strength.

“Reaching the eighth rank in just one year? Do you think we’re fools?”

Shi Hao sighed… Indeed, it did sound like he was trying to fool them.

Because in reality, it had taken even less time.

Of course, he hadn’t actually cultivated himself. It all started when the Holy Jade Immortal and the Enchanting Fire Witch inexplicably shattered his heart meridian…

He knew they wouldn’t believe him no matter what he said.

After all, he had been a scholar with no martial arts skills before this, and that was everyone’s understanding of him in Small Han Mountain City.

This meant that no matter how much they investigated, they wouldn’t believe him.

So, he clasped his hands behind his back and said proudly, “That is the truth!” He adopted an air of “believe it or not.”

Acting humbly now would only make them more suspicious.

Du Yuejiao sneered, “There must be a traitor on Red Mountain, and you might be that traitor. Your so-called repelling of the attackers was probably just a staged performance.”

Shi Hao said calmly, “You have a sharp tongue, young lady, but it’s a pity you weren’t there when it happened. There’s no need for your rhetoric now.”

Du Yuejiao’s eyebrows shot up. She suddenly stepped forward and, with a flick of her wrist, struck towards Shi Hao’s chest with lightning speed.

Their palms met with a crack. Shi Hao, intercepting Du Yuejiao’s palm strike just in time, felt her relentless force, not to be underestimated.

Du Yuejiao, however, felt a chilling aura emanating from his palm.

“Disciple, stand down,” Zhuo Mulan said softly.

Du Yuejiao snorted, withdrew her palm, and stepped back. Zhuo Mulan looked at Shi Hao, “You practice orthodox Daoist techniques?! The one who taught you martial arts was a Daoist?”

Shi Hao replied, “Indeed!” Although martial arts varied, Daoist internal elixir cultivation and demonic essence absorption were distinctly different from other martial arts practices. There was no point in hiding it.

Du Yuejiao said coldly, “The Chongxian Sect is the leader of all Daoist sects. All Daoist practitioners must receive a decree from the Chongxian Sect to be officially recognized. Otherwise, they are merely charlatans and frauds, deceiving people for food and drink.”

Shi Hao said impassively, “If you say so, young lady, then it must be true.”

Du Yuejiao, hearing the sarcasm in his voice, raised an eyebrow, her eyes filled with killing intent.

A young woman approached from the side, “Father, Master, Senior Sister…”

It was County Mistress Li Tong. She subtly positioned herself between Du Yuejiao and Shi Hao, giving her father a meaningful look.

Wusu Baoteng thought to himself, “Although there must be something suspicious about Shi Hao’s martial arts background, he saved my daughter. If I were to reward him with suspicion instead, who would be willing to serve me in the future?”

He laughed heartily and said to Shi Hao, “You have rendered a great service, and I will reward you handsomely. You may withdraw and rest now.”

Shi Hao bowed, “Thank you, Marquis!” and turned to leave.

After Shi Hao left, Chief Constable Qiu Jiangping said to the Marquis, “The attackers’ timing and location were too precise. There must be an inside man. We need to thoroughly investigate both the young master of Small Han Mountain City and the young guild master of the Yuan Rong Merchant Guild.”

Wusu Baoteng, a shrewd man, knew the Six Gates’ methods all too well. He said with displeasure, “There is definitely a traitor, but the traitor must be within my residence. Whether it’s Shi Hao or Deng Liang, they are just outsiders who were invited here. What can we find from investigating them?

“There must be a reason why those attackers suddenly targeted my daughter. Chief Constable Qiu, investigate thoroughly. Don’t go easy on my household staff and find innocent scapegoats just because this involves the Marquis’ residence.”

Qiu Jiangping hurriedly said, “Yes! Yes! Rest assured, Marquis. I will investigate this matter thoroughly.”

But he thought to himself, the Marquis’ residence is like a deep ocean. The deeper I investigate, the more complicated it will become. How am I supposed to handle this?

Zhuo Mulan turned to Qiu Jiangping, “Chief Constable, have you found anything regarding the female thief who stole the treasure the night before last?”

Qiu Jiangping shook his head helplessly, “Please give us more time, Recluse. The clues you provided are too few. Such a female thief has never appeared in Jin Prefecture before. We’ve sent a message to the capital, investigating similar theft cases across the country.

“The female thief who stole the treasure from Ming Kun Monastery is no ordinary person. She can’t have appeared out of thin air with no background whatsoever.”

Du Yuejiao said coldly, “Perhaps that Shi Hao is in league with the female thief. We can definitely find clues from him.”

Qiu Jiangping smiled faintly, “Rest assured, Miss Du. We at the Six Gates aren’t freeloaders. No matter which sect this young master of Small Han Mountain City belongs to, his skills couldn’t have been developed overnight. As long as we investigate thoroughly, we will find something.”

Du Yuejiao pursed her lips and snorted—

Back at his residence, Shi Hao saw Master Lu and the four hunters, who had accompanied him from Small Han Mountain City, looking at him strangely.

He understood. He had them close the door, led them to the hall, had them sit down, and then asked, “Did someone come and ask you when I started practicing martial arts and which sect I belong to?”

Master Lu and the four hunters exchanged glances.

After a while, Master Lu said, “Young Master, someone did come. First, it was a steward from the Marquis’ residence, and then a constable.”

Shi Hao asked, “Did they give you any trouble?”

Master Lu shook his head, “Not really. Their attitude was polite enough, but they clearly didn’t believe us. We told them you’ve never practiced martial arts, but they were obviously skeptical, especially the constable. He kept hinting, with a smile, that giving false testimony to the Six Gates could lead to imprisonment.”

Shi Hao said, “Alright, I won’t hide it from you anymore. I have indeed practiced martial arts. A year ago, I encountered an old Daoist in the mountains who taught me some secret techniques. I was practicing in secret, not wanting others to know.

“But today, during the banquet, when County Mistress Li Tong was attacked, I had to defend myself, inadvertently revealing my martial arts skills, which aroused suspicion.”

He paused and continued, “This matter could be big or small. Since I saved County Mistress Li Tong, the Marquis’ residence probably won’t make things difficult for me for the time being. However, you all know the ways of these nobles and the Six Gates. They can be ruthless.

“To avoid further complications, you should return to Small Han Mountain City. The city gates haven’t closed yet. Leave now.”

One of the hunters said, “Young Master, if we leave, who will take care of you?”

Shi Hao smiled, “Do I really need someone to take care of me? This residence has local servants who handle the daily chores. You don’t need to worry. Go back to Small Han Mountain City. I’ll return after some time, when things have calmed down.

“Don’t forget, I know martial arts. To be honest, I now possess an eighth-rank foundation.”

Master Lu and the others were stunned, staring at him in disbelief.

Although someone had come to inquire about his martial arts background, and he had just admitted to knowing martial arts, they hadn’t expected their seemingly frail young master to be an eighth-rank martial artist!

They all had some martial arts training, but including Master Lu, they were all “unranked.” In their eyes, an eighth-rank martial artist was a formidable figure.

After all, Small Han Mountain City wasn’t a martial arts sect. They were just ordinary people who had fled to West Shu to escape the barbarian massacres during the war.

They hadn’t expected their young master, “just a scholar,” to possess such strength.

Of course, if they knew that just a few days ago, when they left Small Han Mountain City, their young master truly was “just a scholar,” they would be even more shocked and incredulous.

Master Lu and the four hunters, following Shi Hao’s instructions, left the city in the afternoon before the gates closed.

Shi Hao stayed in the residence, practicing and resting. In the evening, the Marquis’ reward arrived, the usual gold, silver, silk, and brocade.

At night, he took out the Jade Clarity Stone, placed it on the roof under the moonlight for half an hour, and then retrieved it. He continued circulating the Immortal Ice Technique and the Mysterious Charm Technique within him as he slept.

The next day, after washing up and having breakfast at a street stall, he set out for the Chuan Jin Treasure Pavilion that Deng Liang had mentioned.

He asked for directions and arrived at the pavilion. The Chuan Jin Treasure Pavilion was a large business with branches in various districts, and this was their main store in Jin Prefecture.

The walls were crimson, with a two-tiered, upturned roof.

The entire building looked new and magnificent. He climbed the stone steps and entered. A staff member immediately greeted him, “What can I get for you, sir?”

Shi Hao said, “I’m looking for some rare medicinal ingredients. The young guild master of the Yuan Rong Merchant Guild said you might have them, so I came to inquire.”

The staff member said, “So you were referred by Young Master Deng. Please come in, please come in.”

Shi Hao was led to the inner room and offered a seat. Soon, a manager approached and asked, “May I ask for your name, sir?”

Shi Hao replied, “My surname is Shi.”

The manager asked, “What kind of medicinal ingredients are you looking for, Master Shi?”

Shi Hao said, “One is Great Cold Peony Immortal Bud, the other is Water Moon Exquisite Lotus…” He paused, not mentioning the third ingredient, and looked at the manager.

The manager said in surprise, “Such rare and spiritual ingredients? Master Shi, these ingredients are not only expensive, but they’re also not always in stock. For example, the Great Cold Peony Immortal Bud grows in cold water and blooms only three buds every three years. Each bud can only be preserved for seven or eight days after being picked. So, not only is it extremely expensive, but it also requires pre-ordering and a substantial deposit.”

Shi Hao asked, “So, does your pavilion have these items?” He was worried that, like Deng Liang, the manager wouldn’t know anything about them.

Since the manager seemed knowledgeable, it meant these ingredients could indeed be purchased.

The manager asked, “Are you a Daoist practitioner, sir? Do you have a Daoist registration?”

Shi Hao shook his head, “Does that matter?”

The manager smiled, “Not at all! Not at all! It’s just that both the Great Cold Peony Immortal Bud and the Water Moon Exquisite Lotus are extremely rare and precious. Please wait a moment, sir. I’ll send someone to check our main warehouse to see if we have them in stock.”

With an apologetic bow, the manager left. A waiter served Shi Hao tea.

Shi Hao waited for a long time but received no response. He frowned, a sense of unease creeping into his heart. He got up and left the inner room.

The manager hurried over, “Master Shi, please wait a little longer. The reply will be here soon. Please be patient.”

Shi Hao said, “I won’t wait any longer. I’ll come back tomorrow.” He walked out without hesitation.

The manager called after him, “Sir, why don’t you leave your name and address? We’ll send someone to inform you when we have a reply… Sir? Sir?”

Shi Hao left the pavilion and entered the bustling street, quickly turning a corner into a small alley.

After navigating the winding alleyways and reaching a deserted area, he suddenly stopped, his face expressionless.

A young woman in an embroidered Daoist robe emerged from around the corner.

Although it was a Daoist robe in style, its form-fitting design and bright crimson color made it appear more like elegant attire.

She had an oval face, an elaborate hairstyle with a Daoist hairpin, and a sword at her waist. It was Du Yuejiao of the Ming Kun Monastery.

Blocking his path, Du Yuejiao sneered, “It really is you!”

Shi Hao said calmly, “I didn’t expect that even buying medicinal ingredients would require your esteemed presence, young lady. What a coincidence.”

Du Yuejiao said disdainfully, “I thought you were quite capable, but it turns out you’re just ignorant. The Chongxian Sect is the orthodox leader of all Daoist sects. The Great Cold Peony Immortal Bud and the Water Moon Exquisite Lotus are both immortal ingredients used to refine the ‘Nine Ranks Immortal Formula’ for Daoist internal elixirs.

“For three hundred years, our Chongxian Sect has led the Daoist sects. By imperial decree, apart from the Chongxian Sect, no other Daoist sect is allowed to cultivate or trade these immortal ingredients. If they need them, they must apply to the Chongxian Sect. All apothecaries are required to report anyone attempting to purchase these ingredients without authorization.

“You didn’t even know about these regulations? Hmph, you truly are unorthodox.”

Shi Hao was slightly taken aback… He really hadn’t known.

After all, he had never interacted with the Daoist sects before, or even the martial world in general.

No wonder the Chongxian Sect, in just three hundred years, had transformed from a small sect that “couldn’t even rank among the eight major sects” (as the Holy Jade Immortal had put it) into the “orthodox leader of all Daoist sects.”

With the support of the barbarian court, they had clearly monopolized all the ingredients required for refining the Nine Ranks Immortal Formula. This forced all other Daoist sects to rely on the Chongxian Sect; otherwise, they would be labeled “unorthodox.”

He looked at Du Yuejiao and said coldly, “I am unorthodox. So what?”

Chapter 12: Immortal Lightning Sword Technique

The black-clad martial artist, also possessing ninth-rank strength, slashed down with his saber, the force of the blow like a fierce tiger.

This attack left him wide open, but his saber was unstoppable, channeling all his power into the blow, determined to cleave Shi Hao in two.

Although Shi Hao possessed an eighth-rank foundation, far surpassing his opponent’s, he only held a branch in his hand, unable to block the attack directly.

Despite this, Shi Hao showed no fear. He tapped the branch, drawing a straight line that struck the attacker’s right shoulder joint with a swish, neutralizing the force in his arm and weakening the saber’s momentum.

In the next instant, he retracted the branch and, with uncanny precision, tapped the side of the saber blade.

The saber veered off course, slicing through the air beside him.

Shi Hao leaped into the air and, with a powerful kick to the man’s chest, sent him flying.

Channeling the Immortal Ice Technique, Shi Hao moved like a shuttle, unstoppable.

On the other side, County Mistress Li Tong’s situation had become extremely perilous.

Although she possessed a ninth-rank foundation and had learned Daoist swordsmanship, with her status, she had never truly faced an opponent in battle.

Wu Yan Kui and Tu Dan Xiong Cai, despite their skills, couldn’t protect everyone. The other young masters were mostly useless, and the cobblestones were stained with blood.

Why were these attackers here? When had the surrounding guards been eliminated?

She knew she shouldn’t be thinking about these things, but she couldn’t suppress her racing thoughts.

With a thud, Tu Dan Xiong Cai was struck in the waist, blood spurting out. He staggered, and then a flash of blade light sliced across his throat.

Tu Dan Xiong Cai’s body fell at Li Tong’s feet, making her panic even more. Her soft sword wavered like a willow branch in the wind, her movements erratic.

Two masked figures charged towards her.

“Run, County Mistress!” Wu Yan Kui, worthy of being the son of a military commander, protected her with his saber.

However, there were too many attackers, and soon, he was struck down.

Li Tong cried out and ran, along with Deng Liang, Wusu Ya Nu, and the other girls, towards a pavilion at the side.

But that was just a dead end.

As Li Tong ran, she heard screams and the clang of weapons hitting the cobblestones behind her.

“That kid is skilled! Let’s take him down together!” someone shouted angrily.

Li Tong looked back and saw a figure moving like lightning amidst the swirling black shadows.

Sword shadows erupted around him, almost every strike drawing blood, followed by the clatter of falling weapons.

Li Tong was surprised, “Who is that…?” She paused.

She vaguely remembered seeing him at the banquet.

But she had been surrounded by the other young masters most of the time and couldn’t recall who he was.

Since no one had specifically introduced him to her, he must not be an important person, despite being qualified to attend the Red Tong Banquet.

These masked figures in black, although their origins were unknown, were all ranked martial artists.

This ambush had been carefully planned, and they had sent their elite, aiming for a swift victory.

Yet now, the young man was moving through them like a fish in water.

He held only a branch in his hand, a thin branch about three feet long, with a green leaf still attached to the tip.

The attackers tried to surround him, their swords and sabers flashing, their killing moves unleashed, but they couldn’t even touch his clothes.

As they hesitated, someone leaped down from above, a sword aimed at County Mistress Li Tong.

Deng Liang and the others had already reached the pavilion, but Li Tong, having looked back, was a step behind.

She cried out, unable to react.

A figure flashed before her eyes, sword shadows exploding. She was swept into a strong embrace and spun around.

The attacker who had jumped down from above was sent flying.

The young man had appeared beside Li Tong, his left arm around her, moving through the attackers.

The thin branch was his sword, a sword that seemed to be everywhere.

Li Tong felt like she was being carried by a torrent, the surrounding shadows trying to stop its flow, but failing.

Weapons continued to clatter to the ground.

Inside the pavilion, Deng Liang, Wusu Ya Nu, and the others watched the fight in stunned silence.

To them, Shi Hao moved through the flashing blades with effortless grace, the County Mistress spinning in his arms like a butterfly.

If not for the bloodstained bodies of Wu Yan Kui, Tu Dan Xiong Cai, and the others lying in the distance, they would have thought it was a performance, a skilled artist showcasing the art of butterfly movements amidst flowers.

    Wusu Ya Nu’s eyes widened, “He… he…”

“Don’t even think about it!” Deng Liang said disdainfully beside her, “He’s way out of your league.”

Wusu Ya Nu opened her mouth, as if something was stuck in her throat, unable to speak.

Shi Hao, channeling the Immortal Ice Technique, was using the Six Immortal Lightning Strikes.

Of the Six Immortal Lightning Strikes, he had only truly mastered the first three: “Ice Crystal Phantom Sword,” “Mysterious Firefly Flying Sword,” and “Ephemeral Sword Radiance.”

Even so, these three strikes flowed seamlessly from his hand, constantly evolving.

No wonder the Enchanting Fire Witch, after learning that the Holy Jade Immortal had taught him the Six Immortal Lightning Strikes, had said, “Since she taught you even that, I can’t be stingy either.”

Shi Hao hadn’t wanted to display his martial arts skills here; it would only bring him unnecessary trouble.

But firstly, these masked figures, seeing him as a lapdog of the barbarian court, showed no mercy, and he couldn’t just let himself be killed.

Secondly, whether County Mistress Li Tong was killed or captured, it would be extremely troublesome for him and Deng Liang, who happened to be present.

If they died too, it wouldn’t be a problem. But if something happened to the County Mistress while they survived, Small Han Mountain City and the Yuan Rong Merchant Guild would likely face serious repercussions.

The branch danced, sword shadows shifting, the shhhing sounds of cutting air filling the air.

Soon, the masked figures, clutching their bleeding wrists, retreated.

They stared at the whirling young man in disbelief, as if a whirlwind surrounded him, the chilling sword intent carrying the power of shifting stars.

Despite their best efforts, they couldn’t break through.

At the same time, rapid footsteps approached from the path down the mountain. Reinforcements from the Marquis’ residence were arriving.

“Retreat!” one of the masked figures shouted.

They didn’t dare to continue fighting. Wounded, they charged towards the opposite slope and disappeared over the mountain.

Shi Hao looked down at County Mistress Li Tong in his arms and said gently, “Are you alright, County Mistress?”

Like a startled bird, Li Tong blushed in his arms before shaking her head.

Only then did a large number of guards from the Marquis’ residence arrive, staring at the corpses and blood in shock.

Red Mountain was surrounded by soldiers. When Marquis Wusu Baoteng arrived and saw the neatly arranged corpses, his face darkened.

Except for County Mistress Li Tong, Deng Liang (who had been protected by Shi Hao), Wusu Ya Nu (who had luckily been behind Shi Hao), and a few other girls, everyone else had been killed.

“My lord!” a man bowed respectfully before Wusu Baoteng, “There must be a traitor within the Marquis’ residence. The attackers’ timing and location were carefully chosen. A tunnel was dug into the back mountain at some point, allowing them to infiltrate undetected and escape through it.”

He glanced to the side and whispered, “Fortunately, the young master of Small Han Mountain City repelled the attackers and protected the County Mistress. Their main target seems to have been the County Mistress.”

Wusu Baoteng glanced at the young man in the distance and frowned, “Shi Hao knows martial arts?”

The man replied, “Not only does he know martial arts, but he possesses at least an eighth-rank foundation, and even among eighth-rank martial artists, he’s definitely exceptional. Wu Yan Kui, Tu Dan Xiong Cai, and the others, despite their skills, were all killed. These attackers were definitely not ordinary people.

“But Lady Ya and the other girls said the young master repelled all the attackers with just a branch, protecting the County Mistress and themselves.

“Even an ordinary eighth-rank martial artist couldn’t achieve such a feat. Besides an eighth-rank foundation, he must also possess superior martial arts skills. This young master’s swordsmanship is extraordinary, truly remarkable!”

Wusu Baoteng asked, “Which sect does he belong to?”

The man looked up and said, “No bodies of the attackers were left at the scene, so it’s difficult to judge. Based on the residual energy, his sword intent carries the aura of profound ice, but the rest is unknown.”

Wusu Baoteng frowned even deeper, “Not a single body left behind?”

The man said, “They might have been taken away. By the time our men arrived, all the attackers had escaped. They were all masked, perhaps to conceal their identities. It’s possible they took their own dead with them.”

Wusu Baoteng lowered his voice, “Secretly send men to Small Han Mountain City and thoroughly investigate Shi Hao’s background.”

The man accepted the order and hurried off.

After giving his instructions, Wusu Baoteng paced back and forth. Two women in Daoist robes hurried in. Both were attractive.

One was around thirty years old, holding a horsetail whisk and carrying a sword on her back. The other, following beside her, was around sixteen or seventeen, beautiful but with a cold expression.

Shi Hao, sitting on a rock in the distance, also saw the two women hurrying towards County Mistress Li Tong.

The older Daoist nun, holding the whisk, asked, “Li Tong, are you alright?”

County Mistress Li Tong stood up and said, “Master, Senior Sister, I’m fine!”

The beautiful Daoist nun, taking her hand, sighed in relief, “I’m glad you’re safe.”

The other beautiful but cold girl also nodded slightly at Li Tong.

Deng Liang, beside Shi Hao, said in surprise, “So it’s them?”

Shi Hao turned to him and whispered, “You know them?”

Deng Liang whispered, “That’s Zhuo Mulan, the Recluse Zhuo, from the Ming Kun Monastery of the Chongxian Sect. The one beside her is her disciple, Du Yue Jiao. My family deals in silk, and we have business dealings with the Ming Kun Monastery. Recluse Zhuo once brought her disciple to our shop to buy fine brocade.

“How could my father neglect guests from the Chongxian Sect? He naturally had me attend to them, so I’ve met them a few times.”

Shi Hao nodded slightly, thinking that it made sense that County Mistress Li Tong practiced Daoist internal arts; she was also a disciple of the Chongxian Sect.

Deng Liang lowered his voice even further, afraid of being overheard, “Don’t underestimate Du Yue Jiao. Although she’s young, she’s been cultivating in the Chongxian Sect since childhood and possesses eighth-rank strength. Although she’s beautiful, she’s incredibly arrogant, like a celestial being, and her words are incredibly sharp.”

Deng Liang had clearly been on the receiving end of her sharp tongue. Shaking his head, he whispered, “In my opinion, whoever marries that girl must have committed terrible sins in a past life, and this is their karmic retribution.”

As he spoke, Du Yue Jiao glanced in their direction.

Deng Liang shuddered and fell silent.

However, Du Yue Jiao wasn’t looking at Deng Liang. Her cold gaze landed on Shi Hao.

After she looked away, Deng Liang whispered, “You’re in trouble this time, Brother Hao. Although you saved the County Mistress, these people from the ‘royal’ clan and the Chongxian Sect… Be careful, Brother Hao.”

Shi Hao nodded slightly. He had originally intended to keep a low profile and find a way to extricate himself from all this, but he had been inexplicably dragged into it.

He remembered the masked figure’s angry roar as he slashed at his head.

    —”Barbarian lapdog, die!”

Deep within the Marquis’ residence, Shi Hao stood alone before the main hall.

Two stone beasts flanked the steps leading up to the hall, and soldiers in the watchtower behind him were staring at him.

After a long time, the steward emerged and said, “Young Master Shi, please come in.”

Shi Hao entered the hall. Wusu Baoteng sat on the main chair, with Zhuo Mulan, the recluse from the Chongxian Sect’s Ming Kun Monastery, and her disciple, Du Yue Jiao, on his left.

On his right sat a middle-aged man with a broad face and high forehead, dressed in black, his eyes sharp and piercing.

There were a few other people present whom Shi Hao didn’t recognize.

    Shi Hao bowed, “Greetings, Marquis.”

Wusu Baoteng nodded, “We are fortunate to have you here. You protected Li Tong. You are my daughter’s savior. There’s no need for formalities.”

Shi Hao said, “I was simply in the right place at the right time. Serving the Marquis is my duty.”

The middle-aged man with the broad face and high forehead suddenly said, “Young Master Shi’s skills are truly impressive. May I ask which sect you belong to, how long you’ve been practicing martial arts, and who your master is?”

Shi Hao looked at the man. He continued, “Don’t misunderstand, Young Master Shi. I am Qiu Jiangping, chief constable of the local Six Gates. I’m not suspecting you, just curious.”

Qiu Jiangping’s gaze was sharp, “Or is there something you’re hiding, Young Master Shi?”

Shi Hao said calmly, “I wouldn’t dare deceive the Chief Constable. Last year, in the mountains, I encountered an old man who taught me internal energy cultivation and swordsmanship. It’s been exactly one year since I began my training. As for the old man, I don’t know his name.

“He was like a wandering dragon in the clouds. He taught me for a few nights and then left without a word.”

He figured they wouldn’t believe him if he said he had only started practicing a few days ago, so he stretched the truth and said one year.

  • I, The Man Who’ll Conquer Both the Immortal Venerable and the Demon Empress 11

Chapter 11: The Red Tong Banquet on Red Mountain

Arriving at Red Mountain, Shi Hao saw the mountain slopes covered in red flowers, a sight as beautiful as a painted sunset glow, layer upon layer, a feast for the eyes.

Entering the pleasure palace, a voice suddenly called out, “Brother Hao!”

Shi Hao looked over in surprise and saw a young man running towards him.

He couldn’t help but smile, “What are you doing here?”

It was Deng Liang, the young guild master of the Yuan Rong Merchant Guild.

Deng Liang quickly reached Shi Hao, grinning, “Thanks to you, Brother Hao, I wasn’t originally qualified to attend this Red Tong Banquet. I heard the Marquis sent you an invitation, so he sent one to me as well.”

The Yuan Rong Merchant Guild conducted extensive business in the West Shu Province. Although Deng Liang was the “young guild master,” the guild leader was elected by numerous wealthy merchants, not through family inheritance.

Even so, the Deng family itself was the largest merchant family in West Shu Province, and also wealthy landowners. Deng Liang, as the young master of the Deng family, was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

The Deng family and Small Han Mountain City had extensive business dealings. Most of the silk produced in Small Han Mountain City was sold through the Deng family’s channels.

Last year, Shi Hao had given Deng Liang a business tip, which earned the inexperienced young man a fortune, making him famous in the business world and earning him the praise of his father.

Because of this, Deng Liang was both awed and grateful to Shi Hao, readily addressing him as “Brother.”

Walking together, Shi Hao whispered, “What is this Red Tong Banquet actually for?”

Deng Liang looked at him in surprise, “You don’t know, Brother Hao? Think about it, this Red Mountain is the Wusu clan’s treasured land, and the Marquis’ daughter is called Li Tong. What do you think this Red Tong Banquet is for? It’s to choose a husband for Princess Li Tong from among the young masters of the royal families.”

Shi Hao suddenly understood. It was probably because they were both young that he and Deng Liang had been invited.

Deng Liang said self-deprecatingly, “Of course, we’re just here to make up the numbers. You must know, Brother Hao, that the court has issued the ‘Jin-Xia Family Harmony’ decree. The Yue Ke Tai clan strongly supports the chancellor, and the Wusu clan is a vassal of the Yue Ke Tai clan. Even if it’s just for show, they have to put on a performance.

“If it were before, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to attend such a banquet.”

Shi Hao nodded slightly, although he had no interest in this “opportunity.”

He wanted to distance himself from these complicated matters and focus on his cultivation.

“Look at that guy, Brother Hao!” Deng Liang pointed to a young man in the distance.

Shi Hao looked over and saw a tall and imposing figure dressed in a short robe with narrow sleeves, accompanied by several servants.

Deng Liang whispered, “That’s Wu Yan Kui of the Wu Yan family. The Wu Yan family holds a hereditary military position. He’s been practicing martial arts since childhood, and I hear he’s already ranked, although only at the ninth rank. But for people like us, he’s already considered an expert.”

He pointed to another young man, whispering, “And that one is Tu Dan Xiong Cai. Also ninth rank. His father is a Duke. Although not as prominent as the Wusu clan, his family is still a respected one in Jin Prefecture. They’re all here for Princess Li Tong!”

Deng Liang pointed out the young men who had come to the banquet one by one. Except for Shi Hao and Deng Liang, they were all of “royal” blood, and all held a certain status among the younger generation.

Perhaps due to the competitive atmosphere, these young men barely spoke to each other, let alone to Shi Hao and Deng Liang, as if even a glance in their direction would be a waste of time.

Shi Hao had no interest in these people. He pulled Deng Liang aside and whispered, “I’m looking for three rare medicinal ingredients: Great Cold Peony Immortal Bud, Water Moon Exquisite Lotus, and Blazing Sky Leaves. Do you know where I can buy them?”

Deng Liang was stunned, “What are those? I’ve never even heard of such medicinal ingredients.”

Shi Hao said vaguely, “I don’t know much about them either, but I met someone who wants to buy these three items at a high price. So I’m asking you. If you know where to find them, you might be able to make a big profit.”

Deng Liang laughed, “You’ve asked the wrong person, Brother Hao. Although my family’s business is large, we mainly deal in silk and brocade. For medicinal ingredients, the largest and most reputable business in Jin Prefecture is the Chuan Jin Treasure Pavilion.

“The Chuan Jin Treasure Pavilion is also a member of our merchant guild. You can go there and ask, Brother Hao. Just mention my name and say I sent you.”

Shi Hao silently committed “Chuan Jin Treasure Pavilion” to memory and then changed the subject.

As they talked, they passed a flower bed and saw five girls walking along another path. One of the girls, with ordinary features and dressed in a light red skirt, saw Shi Hao and immediately glared at him with an annoyed expression, pulling the other four girls away.

The other girls also looked at Shi Hao, but they were chatting and laughing.

Deng Liang whispered, “Brother Hao, was that girl giving you the stink eye?”

    Shi Hao said indifferently, “Probably.”

Deng Liang said, “She looks like a girl from the Wusu clan. Did you offend her, Brother Hao?”

Shi Hao shook his head, “I don’t even know who she is.”

Deng Liang said, “I’ll go ask.” He actually ran off to inquire with the passing maidservants.

He soon returned and said, “Brother Hao, it turns out she’s your fiancée.”

    Shi Hao frowned deeply.

Deng Liang said, “That girl was Wusu Ya Nu. Sigh, not only is she not very pretty, but she also seems to have a bad temper. You’re in for a tough time, Brother Hao.” Seeing that Shi Hao didn’t respond, he changed the topic.

As the young guild master of the Yuan Rong Merchant Guild, Deng Liang naturally knew that Small Han Mountain City had no choice in this “marriage alliance.”

Shi Hao was the young master of Small Han Mountain City, but the Wusu clan had simply chosen a girl of similar age from their clan to “marry down.” Even so, from the Wusu clan’s perspective, this was a “favor” to Small Han Mountain City, which was the most infuriating part.

After strolling around Red Mountain for a while, a maidservant came and led them to a pavilion halfway up the mountain, surrounded by flowers and pavilions.

After a while, a young woman, surrounded by maidservants, emerged from the pavilion. She was clearly County Mistress Wusu Li Tong.

Shi Hao observed her. The county mistress was indeed a beauty, although far from the breathtaking beauty of the Holy Jade Immortal and the Enchanting Fire Witch, her features were still considered attractive.

Due to her so-called “royal” bloodline, her frame was slightly larger than that of ordinary Chinese girls. She had a high forehead and slightly bluish-green eyes, and she seemed to have practiced some family martial arts.

As the county mistress appeared, Wu Yan Kui, Tu Dan Xiong Cai, and the others all crowded around her, showering her with flattery and trying their best to make a good impression.

Knowing they were just there to make up the numbers, Shi Hao and Deng Liang didn’t join the crowd.

Wusu Ya Nu and some other girls, seeing the county mistress surrounded by the young masters, also kept their distance.

As for the young masters from the Jin clan’s prominent families, they didn’t even spare a glance for Shi Hao and Deng Liang.

It wasn’t disdain, not open mockery about why these two were even allowed to attend the banquet. It was complete indifference, as if they hadn’t even noticed their presence.

Since it was a banquet for young people, the atmosphere was relatively informal. Shi Hao and Deng Liang sat in a corner, pouring themselves drinks.

Suddenly, Shi Hao looked up at a decorative rock formation. The rocks, brought from elsewhere to adorn the gardens, varied in shape and size.

Deng Liang followed his gaze, “What are you looking at, Brother Hao?”

Shi Hao shook his head, a puzzled look in his eyes. He thought, “Was it my imagination?”

Just now, he had sensed a sharp gaze sweeping across the area, but when he looked, there was no one there.

He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination or if the person had quickly looked around and then hidden themselves among the rocks, not wanting to be seen.

Unconsciously, County Mistress Li Tong and the young masters were walking ahead, while Shi Hao and Deng Liang ended up walking alongside Wusu Ya Nu and the other girls.

Wusu Ya Nu and the girls with her were all from the Wusu clan, but their status was clearly lower than the county mistress. They were also just there to make up the numbers.

At one point, Shi Hao and Wusu Ya Nu walked close to each other, and she turned and glared at him, “Don’t think I fancy you.”

Shi Hao almost asked her, you’re so ordinary, why are you so confident? But he thought better of it and ignored her.

He moved away from Wusu Ya Nu and walked further behind with Deng Liang. Suddenly, he frowned again and whispered, “Do you smell blood?”

    Deng Liang looked around, “Blood?”

He chuckled, “What are you talking about, Brother Hao? This is the Wusu clan’s treasured land, the County Mistress is here, and so are many young masters from prominent families. Although it seems like there’s no one around us, there are countless guards protecting this place in secret.

“When did you become so jumpy and imaginative, Brother Hao?”

Shi Hao looked up. They were walking along a secluded path, flanked by rolling hills, with elegant pavilions dotted along the way.

Although the so-called royalty were essentially barbarians, after so many years, they had absorbed much of Chinese culture. These pavilions and waterside structures were quite poetic.

He realized they were in a dead end. He hadn’t been here before, so he didn’t know the layout, but he could clearly see a cliff face behind the towering eaves ahead.

The slopes on either side were steep and treacherous, the cascading red flowers swaying like blood.

“Brother Hao,” Deng Liang’s voice also changed slightly, “There really seems to be the smell of blood. Are they slaughtering chickens up ahead…”

The flowers before Shi Hao’s eyes, as he looked up, exploded like fireworks. Numerous figures leaped out from among the flowers, their weapons glinting coldly.

A wave of blade light swept down. Wu Yan Kui and Tu Dan Xiong Cai, alert to the danger, shouted, “Who are you?”

The blade light tore into the crowd, blood spraying everywhere. The sounds of explosions and screams filled the air.

“Run!” Shi Hao grabbed Deng Liang and turned to flee. But a powerful gust of wind swept towards them from behind, followed by a whistling blade.

No longer caring about concealing his strength, Shi Hao grabbed a nearby branch, and with a flick of his wrist, unleashed a flurry of sword shadows, the “Ephemeral Sword Radiance” from the Six Immortal Lightning Strikes.

Two figures in black, their faces covered with black cloths, charged at them, one wielding a saber, the other a sword, their energy surging.

The saber aimed for Shi Hao, the sword for Deng Liang, intending to cut them down together.

Suddenly, the two masked figures saw a flash of sword light before their eyes, exploding into brilliant ice crystals that stung their eyes, forcing them to instinctively pause and step back.

In that instant, a sharp pain shot through their wrists, and their weapons clattered to the ground.

“Careful, there’s an expert!” the two shouted as they retreated. More figures surged forward behind them.

“Get behind me!” Shi Hao commanded.

He was speaking to Deng Liang, but Wusu Ya Nu and the other girls also instinctively hid behind him.

The retreating masked figures saw that the young man was holding a thin branch, which flickered like ice and snow.

Amidst the chilling air and the shhhing sounds, every one of their companions who charged forward had their wrists “struck” by the “sword.”

“Damn, Brother Hao, you’ve been hiding your skills!” Deng Liang exclaimed in surprise and delight. “You lied to me, saying you were just a scholar!”

Shi Hao’s swordsmanship exploded, holding back the onslaught of masked figures single-handedly.

He quickly glanced back. The other side was in chaos.

There were quite a few enemies lying in wait. If not for Shi Hao holding them off, most of them would have been killed by now.

Even so, many already lay dead in pools of blood. The masked attackers were ruthless, showing no mercy.

Wu Yan Kui and Tu Dan Xiong Cai, worthy of their reputation as skilled young men of the “royal” clan, along with their guards, managed to hold back a wave of attacks, while the other young masters were mostly useless.

To Shi Hao’s surprise, County Mistress Li Tong drew a soft sword, wielding it with a skill comparable to Wu Yan Kui and Tu Dan Xiong Cai.

This meant she also possessed a ninth-rank foundation.

Although Shi Hao had noticed she had some martial arts training, her delicate skin and frame didn’t suggest years of rigorous practice.

Now, seeing her sword energy and the faint aura of true energy, he realized she practiced orthodox Daoist internal arts.

Only those who cultivated Daoist internal elixirs could conceal their cultivation level so effectively.

Of course, despite her ninth-rank foundation, County Mistress Li Tong clearly lacked combat experience and quickly became overwhelmed.

“Barbarian lapdog, die!” One of the masked figures, unable to break through Shi Hao’s sword shadows, charged recklessly, his saber aimed at Shi Hao’s head in a suicidal attack.

    Chapter 10: The Female Thief

On the way to Jin Prefecture, many tenant farmers could be seen toiling in the fields.

Calling them tenant farmers didn’t change the fact that these lowest-class Chinese people were practically serfs.

Large families or wealthy landowners like those in Small Han Mountain City, who maintained a certain degree of autonomy, certainly existed.

After all, the barbarian court couldn’t kill all the Chinese landlords and gentry. For the sake of stability, they still needed to appease them to some extent.

Thus, the truly pitiable ones were these helpless common people at the bottom.

Shi Hao had also considered taking advantage of Small Han Mountain City’s remote location to develop agriculture and secretly accumulate strength.

However, this was a world of supernatural abilities and martial arts. Even ten years of secret development wouldn’t be enough to withstand a single blow from the barbarian court’s chancellor, let alone the barbarian “Supreme Emperor” who had lived for three hundred years.

In this world where power resided in the individual, personal strength was paramount.

As the city gates came into view, a large troop of soldiers suddenly charged out.

They rode their horses, recklessly pushing through the people outside the city gates, causing chaos.

Shi Hao saw the mounted soldiers split into several groups, one of which was heading towards them.

They moved to the side of the road, and the captain leading the group stopped in front of them, arrogantly demanding, “Where are you from?”

Master Lu cupped his hands and said, “We are from Small Han Mountain City, summoned by the Marquis to Jin City.”

The captain quickly scanned them, took out a wanted poster from his bosom, and unfurled it before them, “Have you seen this woman on your way?”

Shi Hao, Master Lu, and the others looked at the poster. It depicted a young woman, seemingly a girl, with her face covered, a five-petaled flower tucked into her hair.

Master Lu smiled, “Sir, this girl’s face is covered. Even if we did see her on the road, it’s unlikely she would still be dressed like this. How would we recognize her?”

The captain flipped the wanted poster over, chuckling at his own words, “You’re right. With a drawing like this, where are we supposed to find her? It would be better if they didn’t give us a drawing at all and just told us to ask around for a girl with a flower in her hair and a covered face. Once she takes off her mask and removes the flower, we wouldn’t know who she is anyway.”

He shook his head and continued on with his men, clearly aware he was wasting time, but his superiors had ordered the search, so he couldn’t disobey.

As Shi Hao and the others entered the city gates, they saw the same wanted poster displayed on the notice board. Many soldiers were scattered throughout the city, comically holding the drawings and asking from door to door.

“As if they’ll find her like this!” one of the hunters whispered beside Shi Hao.

Master Lu said, “I wonder what this girl did to cause such a commotion. To commit such a serious crime and escape, prompting a citywide search, she must be no ordinary person.”

The Small Han Mountain City also had a residence in Jin City. After settling in, Shi Hao took a visiting card and headed to the Marquis’ residence.

Along the grand avenue, the surrounding buildings were imposing and magnificent, with colorful palanquins passing by.

Across the river, however, the houses were low and shabby, the area dirty and impoverished, as if the two sides of the river belonged to different worlds.

And the wealthy young masters and noble ladies on this grand avenue never saw the other side.

The verse “Behind vermilion gates, wine and meat go to waste; out on the road lie the bones of the frozen dead” seemed eternally relevant.

Arriving at the resplendent Marquis’ residence, he presented his visiting card and was quickly led inside, but made to wait in a corner before the main hall.

After a quarter of an hour, Shi Hao vaguely sensed someone secretly observing him.

He couldn’t figure out who was watching him from the shadows, but he simply stood there, motionless, pretending to be completely unaware…

“Is that the young master of Small Han Mountain City?” A girl’s voice came from a corner atop the high wall. “He’s not bad looking, but he’s a commoner.”

The voice was sharp and tinged with displeasure, “Why do I have to marry someone like that?”

The Marquis’ residence was vast, divided into inner and outer sections by a high wall with watchtowers on either side.

Three girls stood near one of the watchtowers. The one who had spoken was called Wusu Ya Nu.

Although her appearance was ordinary, she was still of “royal” blood.

Now, because of the Jin-Xia Family Harmony decree, she was about to be married off to the young master of Small Han Mountain City, which filled her with resentment.

One of the other girls smiled, “He looks quite handsome, and you’ll be the young mistress of Small Han Mountain City.”

Wusu Ya Nu spat, “Who cares about being the young mistress of some backwater mountain stronghold? Marrying a commoner makes me a commoner too. Look at the difference between people.

“Look at Wusu Li Tong. She’s the same age as me, and the Marquis is holding this Red Tong Banquet specifically to find her a suitable husband, inviting young masters from prominent families in neighboring prefectures so she can choose for herself. Why don’t I get a choice?”

The other girl whispered, “That’s different. She’s a county mistress.”

Wusu Ya Nu snorted, looking at the young man in the distance with disdain and resentment.

She had no complaints about his looks, only his background. If she married him, their children would be considered commoners.

Ignoring her companions’ attempts to persuade her, she angrily flung her sleeves and left.

“Jin and Xia as one family. It’s easy to say, but not so easy to do,” Marquis Wusu Baoteng said, setting down his teacup in the luxurious hall. “Since the founding of the dynasty by the Supreme Emperor, the entire Jin clan has been royalty, other races are considered middling, and the Chinese are considered lowly. Although official documents don’t use the term ‘commoners,’ after so many years, we’ve all gotten used to it.

“The royal clan has been on top for so long. Now the chancellor wants to promote family harmony, and the major families are all dissatisfied. Except for the Yue Ke Tai clan, who fully supports the chancellor, the other families are all secretly resisting. I wonder what will become of the chancellor in the future.”

Wusu Baoteng sighed, “But it has to be done. I met Young Master Chong Liang of the Yue Ke Tai family a few days ago, and he told me something. The Jin-Xia Family Harmony policy must continue, and even now, it’s too late. It should have been done a hundred years ago.”

His brother, Wusu Bao Di, was listening beside him.

Wusu Bao Di asked, “Brother, why do you say that?”

Wusu Baoteng said, “You know yourself how corrupt the so-called royalty has become, abusing their power. Where does their power come from? It’s all bestowed by the Supreme Emperor. Without the Supreme Emperor’s formidable martial arts, there would be no Great Jin Dynasty.”

“But, to put it bluntly, how much longer can the Supreme Emperor protect us? Those people don’t understand. We, the ‘royalty,’ are sitting on a volcano that could erupt at any moment. We may seem high and mighty, but once the volcano erupts, we’ll be blown to smithereens, with no place to be buried.”

“Suppressing the Central Plains martial world, destroying their laws and traditions, eradicating their martial arts scriptures, uprooting their foundations… These measures have indeed been effective. But as we can see, one wave subsides, and another rises. The resistance never ends.”

“On the other hand, the major families of the royal clan, relying on the Supreme Emperor’s favor, possess powerful martial arts manuals and formidable magical weapons. But over the years, eroded by power and status, their roots have rotted, their will has weakened, and the spirit of their ancestors who followed the Supreme Emperor to conquer the world is long gone.”

“The Chinese resistance, though scattered and unorganized, has never truly ceased in these three hundred years. They have never compromised.”

“The purpose of the Jin-Xia Family Harmony policy is to win over the local gentry, divide the Chinese, and use the Chinese against themselves. They don’t understand the chancellor’s good intentions, saying he’s ruining the royal clan, polluting the royal bloodline, and weakening royal authority.”

“They just don’t understand that the chancellor is helping us descend from this volcano that could erupt at any moment. Lowering our stance a little, treating the Chinese better, showing sincerity to those in the Central Plains martial world willing to join us, this is for the good of all of us.”

Wusu Bao Di smiled wryly, “Brother, the reasoning is sound, but it’s not that simple. Take Small Han Mountain City, for example. I have three daughters, and none of them are willing to marry there. I have to choose someone from the clan and force her to ‘marry down.’

“They consider themselves royalty. How can they marry a commoner? Some even say…”

    He hesitated and stopped.

Wusu Baoteng picked up his teacup and snorted, “Are they saying that if I want to follow the chancellor’s decree and promote this Jin-Xia Family Harmony, why don’t I marry Li Tong off myself?”

    Wusu Bao Di said, “Brother…”

Wusu Baoteng set down his teacup again and waved his hand, “Forget it. Their complaints are not entirely unfounded. Although I speak eloquently about this policy, I wouldn’t be willing to marry Li Tong off either.”

“It’s not that I disagree with the decree, but I have to consider my daughter’s happiness… and everyone else thinks the same way.”

“Let’s not talk about this anymore. Have they caught that female thief from last night?”

Wusu Bao Di said irritably, “Catch who? The Ming Kun Monastery hasn’t even said what was stolen. In the middle of the night, that female thief, with her exceptional light-foot skills, slipped in and out. The Daoists didn’t even see her face, only that she had a mask and a flower in her hair.”

“Because of the Yue Ke Tai family’s order, I’ve distributed her portrait and ordered a prefecture-wide search, but I doubt we’ll find her.”

Wusu Baoteng frowned, “What exactly did the Ming Kun Monastery lose? Why did it alarm the Yue Ke Tai family, yet they refuse to explain clearly?”

Wusu Bao Di said, “Brother, since they’re not being clear, let’s just go through the motions. We can’t be blamed if we don’t catch her, can we? The abbot of Ming Kun Monastery has plenty of men; let him handle it.”

Wusu Baoteng nodded, sitting back in his luxurious sandalwood chair, “Have Shi Hao come in. Although Small Han Mountain City isn’t a martial arts sect, they have a large population and provide a significant amount of grain and taxes every year. They represent the hearts of the people in West Shu, so we should try to win them over.”

Wusu Bao Di went out and had the steward invite the young master of Small Han Mountain City in.

Soon, Shi Hao entered the hall and paid his respects to the Marquis.

Wusu Baoteng nodded, inquired about Small Han Mountain City, and offered some words of comfort.

He then said, “Tomorrow, there will be a banquet at Red Mountain, north of the city. Several young masters from prominent families in the prefecture have also been invited. You should come too.” He had the steward write an invitation for Shi Hao.

Shi Hao accepted the invitation and took his leave. After he left, Wusu Bao Di said, “Brother, you invited him to the Red Tong Banquet as well?”

Wusu Baoteng said, “After he marries Ya Nu, he will be your son-in-law, a member of our Wusu family. Besides, I’ve heard that although Shi Hao is just a scholar, he’s quite capable. He’s achieved remarkable results in developing Small Han Mountain City in the past few years.”

“Since he has the talent to govern, he might become a valuable asset to our Wusu clan in the future. Have Ya Nu attend the banquet tomorrow as well. By the way, since we’ve invited the young master of Small Han Mountain City, what about Deng… Deng… from the Yuan Rong Merchant Guild?”

The steward beside him said, “Are you referring to Deng Liang of the Yuan Rong Merchant Guild, my lord?”

Wusu Baoteng said, “Yes, him. Write an invitation and have it delivered to the Yuan Rong Merchant Guild. They’re all young people; the more the merrier.”

The steward replied, “Yes, my lord!”

Shi Hao left the Marquis’ residence, invitation in hand.

He opened the red invitation and looked at it, thinking, “Red Tong Banquet?”

Red Mountain, north of the city, was a famous scenic spot in Jin Prefecture, but it had long been occupied by the Wusu clan, who had built a pleasure palace there. It was practically a “no commoners or dogs allowed” zone, and to the so-called royalty, the Chinese people were “commoners.”

He hadn’t expected Wusu Baoteng to invite him to the Red Tong Banquet. It seemed the barbarian court was truly determined to implement the “Jin-Xia Family Harmony” policy.

While at the Marquis’ residence, he had suppressed his inner energy, not wanting to reveal his martial arts skills.

Now, walking outside, the Immortal Ice Technique and the Mysterious Charm Technique circulated within him simultaneously, allowing him to cultivate even while walking.

He thought to himself, “I need an opportunity to break free from the Wusu clan without implicating Small Han Mountain City.”

Back at his residence, he took out the Jade Clarity Stone and placed it on the roof, allowing it to absorb the essence of the sun and moon as instructed by the Holy Jade Immortal and the Enchanting Fire Witch. After half an hour, he retrieved it.

Not wanting to attract too much attention, he stayed in for the night.

The next day, after calculating the time, he changed into new clothes, took the invitation, and headed to the banquet…

  • I, The Man Who’ll Conquer Both the Immortal Venerable and the Demon Empress 9

    Chapter 9: Marriage Alliance Matters

Ghost Hook Rat and Blade Wing Bat exchanged glances. Blade Wing Bat leaped into the air, while Ghost Hook Rat burrowed into the ground.

Amidst the torrential rain, Blade Wing Bat spread what looked like blood-red wings, slashing downwards with his blade, the blade light tumbling and churning, filling the sky.

Ghost Hook Rat, with a flurry of hook shadows, swept across the ground, erupting upwards from the earth and stone like a chilling, inverted waterfall.

Blade light and hook shadows formed a inescapable net, like a roaring chariot, intent on grinding the young man to pieces.

Neither Ghost Hook Rat nor Blade Wing Bat dared to prolong the fight, so they immediately unleashed their hidden killing move, “Heaven Slaughters, Earth Severs.”

They had secretly honed this move for years, a desperate measure against powerful foes, rarely used.

So far, they had used it only three times, against opponents far stronger than themselves, and it had always been a fatal blow.

Heaven unleashes killing intent, Earth severs the path of life.

The young man’s escape routes, both above and below, were completely sealed. He was trapped within the grinding mill, with no escape but death.

However, through the Soul Chasing Locking Steps, the duo’s rotating energy flows, amplified by their killing move, felt like two magnets.

Below the cliff, the critically injured martial artist and the terrified siblings watched as the young man stood motionless amidst the overwhelming attack.

Suddenly, a force pulled him, and in the next instant, he was behind Blade Wing Bat, having escaped the killing move.

It was so bizarre, so uncanny, as if he had done nothing, and Blade Wing Bat himself had pulled him out.

The injured martial artist and the siblings wondered if they had imagined it, if they had missed some detail, or if some frames had been skipped, preventing them from seeing clearly… What they had witnessed defied logic.

Blade Wing Bat was even more shocked. The moment the young man escaped, he felt his own movements falter, his internal energy disrupted. The next moment, the young man was behind him.

The inescapable net he and Ghost Hook Rat had created couldn’t stop the young man’s escape. At that moment, the young man’s speed had inexplicably increased.

Behind him, the young man extended a finger.

Sensing danger, Blade Wing Bat focused his internal energy and plummeted downwards.

Ghost Hook Rat’s sweeping iron hook almost caught him.

Blade Wing Bat landed with a thud and turned to face the young man. The young man floated down in the rain, looking at him coldly.

Ghost Hook Rat emerged from the ground and landed beside Blade Wing Bat, whispering, “Be careful, this kid… What’s wrong?”

Ghost Hook Rat looked at Blade Wing Bat, whose body was trembling in the rain.

The young man’s finger had lightly touched his back. That seemingly insignificant touch had set Blade Wing Bat’s meridians on fire.

Suddenly, Blade Wing Bat coughed up blood, stumbled forward, and collapsed, mud and water splashing around him.

The young man had merely touched his back, but the Severing Meridian Burning Heart Finger had already extinguished his life force.

Terror gripped Ghost Hook Rat’s heart. The rain poured down, lightning flashed, and thunder roared. His heart sank into an abyss.

The young man glanced at the corpse on the ground, a look of surprise on his own face.

He seemed surprised by the sheer power of his simple finger strike, a single touch capable of ending a life without any resistance.

With a roar, Ghost Hook Rat hurled his iron hook at the young man and, channeling all his energy, turned and fled through the rain.

He was terrified, no longer daring to face the young man.

The young man dodged the incoming hook and watched Ghost Hook Rat flee.

If Ghost Hook Rat had run like an ordinary person, he might not have been able to catch up.

But Ghost Hook Rat was using his full power to accelerate, and under the guidance of the Soul Chasing Locking Steps, it was as if he was inviting the young man to kill him.

The young man’s figure flickered, and the next moment, he was behind Ghost Hook Rat. He extended a finger, piercing through the downpour, striking Ghost Hook Rat’s back.

Ghost Hook Rat ran for another ten zhang before stumbling. He collapsed in the rain, convulsed, and died.

A scream came from the other side. The young man quickly turned and saw Zhao Haisong leaping towards the cliff face.

Seeing both the Rat and Bat Duo killed by this mysterious young man, Zhao Haisong knew he had no escape and was attempting to take the siblings hostage.

The young man moved, but he was too late.

Suddenly, he turned his head and saw a flash of blade light in the darkness.

A blade flew through the air, thin as a cicada’s wing, spinning before embedding itself in Zhao Haisong’s throat.

Zhao Haisong clutched his throat, his eyes wide, letting out a hoarse gasp before collapsing.

Shi Hao focused his gaze and saw a woman emerge from the darkness, dressed in light grey, her feet splashing through the water as she approached Zhao Haisong’s corpse. With a gesture, the flying knife embedded in his throat returned to her hand.

She flicked her wrist, and the knife disappeared.

From below the cliff, the gravely injured middle-aged martial artist said in a low voice, “It’s… really dark here.”

The woman turned to look at Shi Hao, who stood motionless in the rain.

She turned back to the martial artist and the siblings and whispered, “Even in this darkness, the thunder never ceases.”

The middle-aged martial artist smiled weakly, “You… finally arrived. I can… rest now.” His head drooped.

The girl and boy, supporting his cooling body, cried, “Uncle Zhao, Uncle Zhao…”

The woman’s expression turned somber. She crouched beside the siblings and said, “I’m sorry, I’m late.”

Taking their hands, she said, “We can’t stay here long. More Six Gates lapdogs will come. Come with me.”

She pulled the children up and looked at the young man standing silently in the rain, “Thank you for your help, kind sir. May I ask for your name?”

Amidst the roaring storm, Shi Hao said calmly, “I am but a passerby who couldn’t stand for injustice.”

The woman and the children bowed to him, “Thank you for your assistance, kind sir. The martial world is a dangerous place. If fate allows, we will repay your kindness in the future. You should leave this place quickly as well.” With that, she hurried away with the children.

Watching their figures disappear into the rain and darkness, Shi Hao relaxed and looked back at the corpses of the Rat and Bat Duo and the Six Gates constables.

This was the first time he had killed, but he felt no remorse, only that he hadn’t killed enough of these villains.

He bent down and searched the bodies of the Rat and Bat Duo for anything useful.

He found quite a bit of silver and some miscellaneous items. He wasn’t interested in the silver and left it behind.

He then searched Zhao Haisong’s body and found a wanted poster with the pictures of the siblings, labeled “Daughter of rebel Wu Zheng” and “Son of rebel Wu Zheng.” Clearly, Wu Zheng was their father, arrested and sentenced to death for writing rebellious poems, his entire family, including his children, condemned.

Shi Hao then found a stone carved in the shape of a tiger, covered in runes.

He thought, “This seems to be the magical weapon the Holy Jade Immortal and Enchanting Fire Witch mentioned. But Zhao Haisong didn’t use it. Did he already use it today?”

He tucked the tiger-shaped rune stone into his robe and, ignoring the corpses, continued running through the rain.

Along the way, he put his shirt back on and undid the Evil Shadow Disguise Technique, returning to his original appearance.

He took out the magical weapon and, using the methods taught by the Holy Jade Immortal and Enchanting Fire Witch, studied the runes and focused his consciousness into it.

    He quickly understood its function.

    —Magical Weapon: Earthly Valor Tiger

    —Divine Crystal: Earthly Valor Star

—Effect: Grants a divine body and divine power for a short period, multiplying physical strength and power. Limited to one use per day.

    —Remaining Uses: Five

Divine crystals themselves couldn’t be used; they had to be forged into magical weapons or absorbed by the body.

The divine crystal used in this weapon was called the “Earthly Valor Star.” “Earthly Valor Tiger” was just a name given by the crafting master after forging it into a tiger shape.

The light within the weapon was dim, indicating it had indeed been used today. Perhaps Zhao Haisong had even stolen it from someone else.

After running for several li, the rain subsided. Near the giant pit, Shi Hao heard Master Lu and the hunters calling out, “Young Master! Young Master!”

He took a detour and then pretended to emerge from the mud, rejoining them.

Relieved to see him safe and sound, Master Lu and the others escorted him down the mountain in the rain.

They didn’t know that in this short time, their young master was no longer just a weak scholar—

In a small town outside the mountain, Shi Hao soaked in a hot bath at an inn.

He took out the Jade Clarity Stone and the Earthly Valor Tiger, examining them once more. It was now morning, the sun shining brightly in a clear sky.

It was as if yesterday’s storm had washed away all the impurities from the heavens.

Surrounded by steam, soaking in the hot water, he felt extremely comfortable.

He thought to himself, “Although I’m already an eighth-rank martial artist, to advance further, I need to cultivate both the Immortal Ice Technique and the Mysterious Charm Technique to their peak. I also need to find the ingredients for the seventh-rank Immortal Formula. I wonder if there’s a place to buy these things?

“And this trip to Jin Prefecture is also troublesome. As the young master of Small Han Mountain City, I’m being forced to marry a woman from the Wusu clan. If I refuse, I’ll offend the Marquis, and Small Han Mountain City’s situation will become even more difficult.

“But if I do marry her, Small Han Mountain City will become a vassal of the Wusu clan, and I, a Chinese, will become the son-in-law of barbarians.”

    He frowned deeply.

Since Lie Zunyi’s invasion, the entire Jin clan had been designated as “royalty,” while the Chinese people were considered lowly commoners. Intermarriage between the two groups was forbidden.

However, after so many years, the so-called “royal” upper class had become increasingly corrupt, and the various forms of resistance among the Chinese people had never ceased.

Until Futu, the barbarian court’s chancellor, whose martial arts skills were said to rival those of the Supreme Emperor, took control of the court and began implementing the “Jin-Xia Family Harmony” policy, promoting intermarriage between the Jin and Chinese people.

This policy had reportedly caused strong discontent among the Jin clan’s upper class.

But the Supreme Emperor Lie Zunyi had been in seclusion for a long time, no longer involved in court affairs. The current barbarian emperor, Zu Chi Wu, followed the chancellor’s every word, and the “Jin-Xia Family Harmony” policy was forcibly implemented.

This marriage alliance between Small Han Mountain City and the Wusu clan was a result of this policy.

However, Wusu Baoteng, the clan leader and Marquis of Jin Prefecture, would never allow his own daughter to marry a “commoner.” So, he had his younger brother choose a girl from the clan, adopt her as his daughter, and marry her off to the young master of Small Han Mountain City.

For Small Han Mountain City, this was undoubtedly a humiliation, but the Wusu clan considered it an honor for Small Han Mountain City.

Twenty or thirty years ago, Small Han Mountain City wouldn’t even have had the opportunity to marry a woman from the Wusu clan.

    Speaking of which…

Shi Hao, scrubbing himself in the hot water, thought self-deprecatingly.

He had set out for Jin Prefecture for a marriage alliance, but somehow, along the way, he had lost his virginity.

He wondered if his two “wives” in the Primordial Grotto Heaven were fighting again.

With their abilities, if he could quickly reach the fourth rank and help them escape, they would undoubtedly be a great asset to China.

Provided they didn’t continue their “internal strife” after coming out.

After his bath, he sat cross-legged on the simple wooden bed in the room, preparing to cultivate. He wondered whether to practice the Immortal Ice Technique or the Mysterious Charm Technique first.

Suddenly, it occurred to him that although those two women had played with his life, they had indeed established the foundations of both techniques within him.

With this in mind, he attempted to cultivate both techniques simultaneously.

The normally incompatible Daoist and demonic techniques, within his body, were like two intertwined yin and yang fish, opposing yet working in perfect harmony.

More importantly, they stimulated and challenged each other, both growing rapidly.

Even as he lay down to sleep, they continued to circulate in this delicate balance, suppressing and promoting each other without pause.

In the history of the martial world, no one had ever cultivated both Daoist and demonic foundations simultaneously. Such a wondrous thing was probably beyond the imagination of even the Holy Jade Immortal and the Enchanting Fire Witch.

The next morning, Shi Hao woke up feeling not only refreshed but also full of energy.

The power of the Immortal Ice Technique and the Mysterious Charm Technique within him had increased significantly, the speed of his progress startling him.

If he continued cultivating like this, perhaps it wouldn’t be long before both techniques reached their peak.

  • I, The Man Who’ll Conquer Both the Immortal Venerable and the Demon Empress 8

Chapter 8: The Hidden Dragon Emerges from the Abyss

Rain lashed against the collapsed temple, splattering against the scattered bricks and stones. Not far away, a towering figure, over two meters tall, stood covered in blood, swaying unsteadily.

Daoist Lan He was drenched in blood, wounds crisscrossing his body. Several corpses lay around him, their bones shattered, victims of his divine power.

However, Zhao Haisong and the “Rat and Bat Duo” merely harassed him from the periphery, avoiding direct confrontation with his divine power.

“I don’t know what you’re fighting for,” Zhao Haisong sneered disdainfully. “Just to save two useless children, you’re making an enemy of the court and throwing your own life away.”

Daoist Lan He roared, “Scum!” He threw a punch, his enlarged fist descending towards Zhao Haisong’s head like a falling boulder, rain scattering around it.

Wielding his goose-feather saber, Zhao Haisong moved like a fish in the rain, dodging the attack.

Ghost Hook Rat and Blade Wing Bat, the Rat and Bat Duo, attacked simultaneously, a hook and a blade striking Daoist Lan He’s back from both sides.

Even with his divine power protecting him, Daoist Lan He stumbled amidst the spray of blood.

Finally, a cold light flashed, and he reverted to his original form, no longer the towering figure. The wounds on his body seemed to find new openings, blood spurting out.

His Daoist robe tattered, Daoist Lan He, still enraged, spun around and punched Ghost Hook Rat.

Blade Wing Bat chuckled, and with a flash of his blade, Daoist Lan He’s arm fell to the ground.

Swish! Zhao Haisong’s goose-feather saber pierced Daoist Lan He’s side, exiting through his chest. He quickly withdrew the blade, blood gushing out.

Staggering, Daoist Lan He lunged at Zhao Haisong, trying to strangle him with his remaining hand.

Zhao Haisong slashed again, severing his other hand. He kicked Daoist Lan He to the ground, pointing his saber at his throat with a sneer of disdain, “Any last words?”

Gasping in the storm, Daoist Lan He said, “You… you barbarian lapdogs… will meet your end… your end…”

With a flash of his blade, Zhao Haisong slit his throat, watching him breathe his last with contempt.

Ghost Hook Rat swung his black iron hook and laughed, “He was a tough one.”

Zhao Haisong sneered, “He overestimated himself and brought this upon himself.” He bent down and searched Daoist Lan He’s body, quickly finding the tiger-shaped rune stone.

He turned around and saw the Rat and Bat Duo staring at the stone in his hand. Zhao Haisong smiled, “Don’t worry, I won’t keep this magical weapon for myself. But there’s only one, and it’s not easy to divide among three people. After we catch those two children, we’ll go back, have it appraised, and split the value.”

Blade Wing Bat laughed, “Brother Zhao is righteous. We trust you, of course.”

Ghost Hook Rat chuckled, “Let’s catch those two brats first. Hee hee, that girl is quite pretty.”

Turning their backs on the corpse, they continued their pursuit. Ghost Hook Rat cursed, “Damn this rotten weather! The rain was lighter just now, and now it’s pouring again.”

Their clothes were soaked through. Lightning flashed and thunder roared above, illuminating the world. The deep pit on the other side remained shrouded in darkness, even the lightning unable to penetrate it, as if shadowy figures could emerge from its depths at any moment.

After running for a while, they found two more bodies. One was a constable from the Six Gates, the other one of the four martial artists who had accompanied Daoist Lan He.

The martial artist’s body was covered in wounds, barely a single part intact. His eyes glared wide open, an iron blade embedded in the constable’s chest. This dying strike had caught the constable off guard, and despite having several companions, he hadn’t been able to avoid it.

Zhao Haisong muttered, “A bunch of useless fools.”

They continued forward, running through the rain. They found the body of another martial artist, and a little further on, the third.

Both had been hacked to pieces, but even so, their faces, stained with blood that the rain couldn’t wash away, were frozen in expressions of defiance.

Zhao Haisong cursed, “These desperate fools. Fighting so hard for two useless brats.”

He couldn’t understand their thinking, finding it utterly ridiculous.

Ghost Hook Rat chuckled, “Three down, only one left to protect those kids. Looks like we won’t have to lift a finger… Uh.” His voice suddenly stopped.

They had been talking as they moved, covering more ground. They found another body, this time one of their own constables from the Six Gates.

The constable lay on the ground, his face frozen in shock.

Zhao Haisong crouched down and examined the body. There were no other injuries except for a hole in his forehead, the skin around it charred black, as if burned by fire.

Zhao Haisong said, “What kind of technique is this?”

Blade Wing Bat said, “Looks like a demonic sect technique.”

Zhao Haisong stood up and continued running with the Rat and Bat Duo. Soon, they found another body, another one of their own.

This constable clutched his throat, but there was no blood between his fingers. His face was contorted in terror.

Zhao Haisong pried his hands open and saw another charred black hole, not very large.

The previous corpse had bled from the hole in his forehead, but this one only had the ugly black charring, no blood at all.

Ghost Hook Rat said, “What a strange finger technique!”

Zhao Haisong frowned, stood up, and continued running. Soon, they found two more bodies.

    These two lay together.

Ignoring the dead constables, Zhao Haisong stepped over them and pressed forward.

A bolt of lightning illuminated the cliff ahead, revealing a tall figure standing with his back to them, facing the cliff face, unmoving.

From the back, it appeared to be a young man, shirtless, his discarded shirt tied around his waist.

Four bodies lay around him. The last of Zhao Haisong’s men were all dead.

Further down the cliff, huddled together, were the girl and boy they were pursuing, supporting a middle-aged man between them.

The man was also covered in blood, a blade protruding from his chest. He wouldn’t last much longer.

Their gazes were fixed on the young man.

The Rat and Bat Duo looked at the young man’s back, their eyes filled with caution.

Zhao Haisong quickly searched his memory, trying to match the young man’s figure to anyone he knew.

But no one in his memory matched the young man’s back.

He then remembered the young man he had chased out of the temple earlier, the one who seemed to have no martial arts skills.

Could it be him? His eyes narrowed.

The young man slowly turned around. He had a high forehead and a slightly hooked nose, his features sharp and angular, completely different from the young man who had left the temple.

Zhao Haisong realized he was mistaken and discarded the idea.

Gripping his goose-feather saber, he took a step forward and shouted, “Who are you? Do you know this is official Six Gates business? Do you want to make an enemy of the court?”

The young man stood in the rain with his hands clasped behind his back and said coldly, “Barbarian lapdogs deserve to be killed by anyone.”

A bolt of lightning struck, illuminating the young man’s figure.

He was like fireworks suddenly blooming in the night, dazzling and brilliant.

“Arrogant!” Zhao Haisong shouted. His goose-feather saber sliced through the rain, water spraying from both sides of the blade as he thrust it towards the young man’s throat.

The young man suddenly vanished before his eyes, reappearing beside Zhao Haisong in a flash, a finger aimed at his armpit.

Alarmed, Zhao Haisong used all his power to shift his position.

The young man followed him like a shadow, dodging Zhao Haisong’s saber, his fingertip flickering with a strange flame, striking at him from various angles with incredible speed.

Ghost Hook Rat and Blade Wing Bat watched the fight. Initially, the two seemed evenly matched, but gradually, Zhao Haisong found himself in increasing danger.

The young man’s finger technique became more and more bizarre and profound, his speed increasing.

Blade Wing Bat’s eyes flickered, “Is he using Constable Zhao to test his moves?”

Ghost Hook Rat frowned, “It seems so.”

They both remembered the strangely killed corpses they had encountered along the way.

The first victim had a finger strike to the forehead, the wound bleeding. The second had a finger strike to the throat, the wound cauterized, clearly indicating the energy had penetrated the body, sealing the throat with the flame from his finger.

Later, there were two more victims, and now, four bodies lay around the young man, all close together, clearly killed in rapid succession.

Now, as he fought Constable Zhao, his flaming finger strikes became more precise, his footwork more profound. The fight had shifted from a close-quarters combat to a one-sided suppression.

He seemed to be using his opponent to familiarize himself with his own martial arts, rapidly improving in the process.

The Rat and Bat Duo flickered, approaching the young man from the sides. The moment they moved, the young man’s speed increased dramatically. He flashed behind Zhao Haisong.

Zhao Haisong was shocked, unable to block in time. He was forced to counter with a backhand strike.

Sizzle! His left palm was pierced, smoke rising from the wound as a burning energy surged up his meridians.

The Rat and Bat Duo attacked simultaneously, their hook and blade sending waves of rain crashing towards the young man.

Zhao Haisong seized the opportunity to retreat, trying to regain his composure, but a mouthful of blood spurted out.

Although only his palm had been pierced, all the meridians from his hand to his internal organs felt like they were being burned by flames, an unbearable, searing pain. He sealed his acupoints, horrified.

If that finger had struck his back, he would have died instantly.

What kind of bizarre and terrifying technique was this?

    Who was this young man?

Shi Hao hadn’t expected that after spending so many days in the Primordial Grotto Heaven, only a moment seemed to have passed in the outside world.

The Primordial Grotto Heaven was truly mysterious and wondrous, beyond comprehension.

Now, he faced the Rat and Bat Duo alone, his movements ghostly, his finger strikes sharp and precise.

The Rat and Bat Duo’s iron hook and blade worked in perfect harmony, creating streaks of light around him. They occasionally clashed, changing their tactics mid-move, launching surprise attacks from unexpected angles.

Raindrops hitting the swirling blade left white trails, spinning and spreading like wings.

Blade Wing Bat’s blade was as fast as lightning, flashing around Shi Hao.

Ghost Hook Rat’s iron hook, however, was black, hidden in the darkness, lurking in the corners of Shi Hao’s vision, darting out like a venomous snake, hooking and jabbing from treacherous and unpredictable angles.

Shi Hao used the Soul Chasing Locking Steps taught by the Enchanting Fire Witch. This technique was truly bizarre and profound. Although called “steps,” it was actually about sensing and manipulating energy flows.

Any opponent, as long as they were channeling energy, would have an “energy flow.” The Soul Chasing Locking Steps could acutely sense this flow, allowing him to pinpoint the enemy’s location and even their current posture.

Although the Rat and Bat Duo worked seamlessly together, one direct and one cunning, their dazzling blade light and hidden hook attacks were all clearly perceived by Shi Hao thanks to the Soul Chasing Locking Steps’ energy sensing ability.

When the Enchanting Fire Witch taught him this technique, he hadn’t realized how powerful it was. Now, facing his enemies, he truly understood its profoundness, its sheer incredibility.

The more they fought, the more the Rat and Bat Duo felt a chill in their hearts.

They couldn’t understand how the young man was doing it, what kind of footwork he was using.

No matter how hard they tried, using all their skills and tricks, the young man always managed to evade them with unpredictable speed and seemingly precognitive awareness.

More importantly, they could sense that his strength was rapidly increasing.

It was as if he was still familiarizing himself with this ghostly, phantom-like footwork. Initially, he had been like a fish in a shallow pond, barely able to maneuver in the limited space.

But gradually, the small pond became a vast ocean to him, his figure seemingly omnipresent.

It hadn’t been long, but it felt like they had gone from a two-on-one attack to being “surrounded” by this single young man.

Lightning flashed and thunder roared above, and the young man’s movements were like the sparks of lightning, surrounding them from all sides.

Their every move was like bait, failing to catch him but instead feeding his rapid growth.

In a short time, the young man had transformed from an elusive carp into an invincible dragon.

This feeling made their scalps tingle with fear.

  • I, The Man Who’ll Conquer Both the Immortal Venerable and the Demon Empress 7

    Chapter 7: You Two Decide

Shi Hao subconsciously repeated, “Simple and direct, yet extremely dangerous?”

Su Mei said, “The Daoist sects always say the demonic sects are the evil path. Although I’m a member of the demonic sects, I have to say…hee hee, they’re not wrong.” She pouted, looking rather smug.

She continued, “The Daoist sects emphasize mental state and comprehension. Demonic cultivation is much simpler, exchanging power from the Demonic Realm through specific rituals. The Demonic Realm has various heavens, and the demons in different demonic realms have different needs, but all are evil and cruel.

“Take the Mysterious Charm Technique, for example. You’ve saved yourself a lot of trouble because I directly imparted part of the foundation to you. But normally, after establishing the foundation for the Mysterious Charm Technique, one needs to perform a specific ritual using the corpses of nine men and six women to exchange for demonic essence from the Night Enchanting Heaven in the Demonic Realm. Only after absorbing the exchanged demonic essence can one truly enter the ninth rank.”

Shi Hao said, “So, the Daoist sects mainly rely on self-cultivation, while the demonic sects obtain power from the Demonic Realm?”

Su Mei said, “Wrong! To be precise, the Daoist sects rely on self-cultivation… and a vast amount of heavenly and earthly treasures. The higher the cultivation level, the more resources are consumed. In other words, the Daoist sects use a large number of resources from the world to exchange for their cultivation, while the demonic sects obtain resources from the Demonic Realm, which is outside the world, through ‘rituals.’

“In fact, with sufficient resources, you can even exchange for anything from the Demonic Realm, including history, knowledge, and all sorts of special knowledge or demonic objects not found in the mortal world.

“For example, the demonic essence I used to refine the Pleasure-Inducing Powder this time was obtained from the Fifth Heaven of the Demonic Realm by sacrificing many lives through an extremely complex ritual. You saw it yourself, even someone with Ye Zi Yin’s mental fortitude couldn’t resist the demonic drug.”

The corners of her mouth curled up slightly in a smug smile.

Then, she looked a little dejected… She hadn’t been able to resist it either!

Shi Hao said, “Since you’re dealing with Yin Demons from the Demonic Realm, what if they go back on their word after the sacrifice is made?”

“Good question!” Su Mei said, “That’s why demonic cultivation is both direct and dangerous. These Yin Demons cannot enter the mortal world themselves. They wander in the Grey Realm outside the three realms, suffering from extreme cold and torment. Given the chance, they wouldn’t hesitate to use your ritual to invade your body.

“So, the ritual must be performed flawlessly, and there can be no interruptions during the process. If there’s a mistake, the Yin Demons will seize the opportunity to gradually erode and replace your three souls and seven spirits. In the demonic sects, this is called ‘succumbing to demonic influence.’

“You have to understand, although we are demonic cultivators, our goal is to use the Demonic Realm to enhance our own strength, not to become demons. As the saying goes, ‘When the Dao rises one foot, the Demon rises ten feet.’ If a Daoist cultivator lacks comprehension or resources, they can’t progress.

“But it’s different for demonic cultivators. Even if the ritual goes wrong, there’s still a high chance of obtaining the required demonic essence and greatly increasing their strength. However, during that process, the cultivator’s three souls and seven spirits might be devoured and replaced by the demons of the Demonic Realm, leading them to succumb to demonic influence and become violent.”

“When all the souls and spirits are completely replaced, the cultivator’s body remains, but they are essentially dead. Occupying their body is a complete demon from the Demonic Realm. For example, Emperor Zhou, fifteen hundred years ago, in his pursuit of power, dabbled in demonic arts and ultimately became a ‘flesh vessel’ for a descending Demon King.”

Shi Hao’s expression changed… Why would anyone choose such a cultivation path?

Su Mei tilted her head, resting her left elbow on the armrest and her chin on her hand.

She smiled, “But don’t worry, our Evil Lotus Sect has specific partners in the Demonic Realm, Yin Demons from the Third Heaven – the Night Enchanting Heaven. Every ritual for advancement is clearly defined and flawless.”

“As long as you follow my instructions and advance step by step, you don’t have to worry about succumbing to demonic influence.”

“We even possess many unknown demonic scriptures that can be used through specific rituals to obtain resources from other heavens that are impossible to find in the mortal world. Wealth, immortality, secret drugs that can turn celestial beings into lustful women, demonic pills that can transform children into frenzied monsters… As long as you’re willing to pay the price, anything is possible.”

    “More importantly…”

She giggled, “The price isn’t your own.”

Shi Hao pondered her words, “Not my own?”

Su Mei couldn’t help but laugh, “For example, you’re currently at the eighth rank in the demonic path. According to our Evil Lotus Sect’s practices, to advance to the seventh rank, you need to sacrifice at least one hundred living souls. A living soul is a soul that has been killed within an hour. You wouldn’t be foolish enough to kill your own family and relatives, would you?”

She spread her hands, “Of course, you would just find an unnoticed village and slaughter everyone!”

Looking at her charming, unrestrained smile, Shi Hao shuddered.

He began to understand why the Holy Jade Immortal had said, “Having been intimate with me, if he joins the demonic sects, I would rather kill him myself.”

Sacrificing countless lives to cultivate demonic arts… Wasn’t this the typical villain in every story?

Su Mei laughed, “Now you’re having second thoughts about cultivating demonic arts? Too late.”

    Shi Hao said, “Too late?”

Su Mei said, “Indeed. You now possess the foundations of both the Immortal Ice Technique and the Mysterious Charm Technique. Whether you like it or not, you are now a dual cultivator of Daoist and demonic arts. More importantly, Dao and demon are incompatible, but they are currently in balance within your body.

“But if your Daoist foundation continues to improve while your demonic foundation stagnates, the Daoist energy will relentlessly destroy the demonic energy within you, and you will die. The reverse is also true. Didn’t your little wife tell you this?”

Shi Hao said, “So, I have to improve both cultivation methods simultaneously?”

Su Mei said, “That’s right. Once your Daoist foundation reaches the seventh rank, your demonic foundation must also reach the seventh rank within three days. Otherwise, you’ll either die or become crippled. Hee hee!”

Shi Hao forced a smile, “I understand.”

The Enchanting Fire Witch tilted her head, “You don’t mind?”

Shi Hao sighed and said self-deprecatingly, “Would it change anything if I did?”

The Enchanting Fire Witch giggled, “Of course not. By the way, since your little wife taught you the Six Immortal Lightning Strikes, I can’t be stingy either. I have the ‘Severing Meridian Burning Heart Finger’ and the ‘Soul Chasing Locking Steps,’ which perfectly complement the Mysterious Charm Technique.

“Also, there’s a unique secret technique called the ‘Evil Shadow Disguise Technique.’ It uses demonic energy to control and alter your facial muscles, allowing you to change your appearance slightly so others won’t recognize you at a glance.

“Since you’re now a dual cultivator, perhaps you can use the two normally incompatible foundations within you to achieve some unexpected results.”

Shi Hao then began to learn the Severing Meridian Burning Heart Finger, the Soul Chasing Locking Steps, and the Evil Shadow Disguise Technique from the Enchanting Fire Witch.

Unlike the Six Immortal Lightning Strikes, the Severing Meridian Burning Heart Finger didn’t have fixed moves but focused on energy channeling techniques. Although called a finger technique, it could also be applied to saber and sword techniques.

With a saber in hand, it became the Severing Meridian Burning Heart Saber.

With a sword in hand, it became the Severing Meridian Burning Heart Sword.

The Soul Chasing Locking Steps was a unique light-foot technique that locked onto an enemy’s energy, its power amplified when used with the Severing Meridian Burning Heart Finger.

“Not bad, you learn quickly!” After Shi Hao mastered all the techniques, the Enchanting Fire Witch laughed, “It seems you truly have a talent for martial arts. You’re worthy of being our man.”

The Enchanting Fire Witch continued, “Remember, you must cultivate the Mysterious Charm Technique to its peak before advancing to the seventh rank. If the Mysterious Charm Technique hasn’t reached its limit, rashly advancing to the next rank will prevent you from fully absorbing the demonic essence required for the seventh rank.”

“In that case, there’s a high risk of succumbing to demonic influence. Although many people become even more powerful after succumbing, your soul and mind will be eroded by Yin Demons, and you will gradually cease to be yourself.”

“As for the ritual required to advance to the seventh rank, besides one hundred living souls, you also need a place of extreme Yin…”

She began to teach Shi Hao the ritual for advancing to the seventh rank, along with some miscellaneous secret techniques of the demonic sects that might prove useful. These techniques were bizarre and wondrous.

“Main ingredients: one Great Cold Peony Immortal Bud, one Water Moon Exquisite Lotus, three Blazing Sky Leaves. Supplementary ingredients: three liang of borneol, two liang and seven qian of Northern Wild Chrysanthemum, three liang of Ice Stone Vine…” Shi Hao memorized the Immortal Formula written by the Holy Jade Immortal.

The other ingredients were manageable, but he had never even heard of the Great Cold Peony Immortal Bud, Water Moon Exquisite Lotus, or Blazing Sky Leaves.

The paper also contained the method for refining the elixir, but Shi Hao had never tried it before and wasn’t sure if he could actually refine the seventh-rank Immortal Formula even if he found the ingredients.

The Holy Jade Immortal, standing a zhang away, said, “If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can come back in again, and I’ll teach you.”

Shi Hao asked in surprise, “I can come back here again?”

The Holy Jade Immortal glanced at Su Mei. Su Mei laughed, “There’s nothing to hide now. Besides, we’re counting on him to help us escape after he reaches the fourth rank.”

The Holy Jade Immortal turned back to Shi Hao and said, “After you leave, you’ll find a small grey stone, perfectly round. You’ll know it when you see it. It’s placed on a pillar. Wait beside it until it falls on its own, and then take it with you.

“That stone is called the Jade Clarity Stone. Every day, you need to expose it to sunlight for half an hour and moonlight for half an hour. Even on cloudy or rainy days, it’s fine as long as you leave it outdoors. It will naturally absorb the essence of the sun and moon.

“It’s the medium for entering this Primordial Grotto Heaven. On the night of a full moon, focus your consciousness into the stone, and we will sense you and bring you here.”

The Enchanting Fire Witch giggled, “Don’t lose that Jade Clarity Stone. If you do, we won’t spare you when we get out.”

The Holy Jade Immortal added calmly, “Also, the flow of time in the Primordial Grotto Heaven is different from the outside world. It exists outside the three realms and beyond the five elements. You’ll understand after you leave.”

The Enchanting Fire Witch winked at him and laughed, “Your little wife and I will be waiting for you here. Don’t disappoint us.”

The Holy Jade Immortal said coldly, “Even if we are both his wives, you can only be the junior wife.”

The Enchanting Fire Witch giggled, “That’s not for you to decide.”

The Holy Jade Immortal raised an eyebrow and snorted, “Nor is it for you to decide.”

Then, both of them stared at Shi Hao.

Startled, Shi Hao quickly bowed repeatedly to them, “My ladies, you decide, you decide…” He didn’t dare to get involved in their argument.

The Enchanting Fire Witch laughed, “Coward!”

The Holy Jade Immortal glanced at Shi Hao and said softly, “Let’s send him out.”

The two women rose into the air. The Holy Jade Immortal, her white clothes fluttering, was breathtakingly beautiful. The Enchanting Fire Witch was charming and alluring.

A chilling aura emanated from the Holy Jade Immortal, while flames flickered around the Enchanting Fire Witch.

They exchanged glances and then struck each other with full force. Icy energy and flames collided. Although Shi Hao now possessed the foundation of an eighth-rank martial artist, cultivating both Daoist and demonic arts, the earth-shattering power still made his scalp tingle.

A rift opened amidst the exploding energy. The Holy Jade Immortal and the Enchanting Fire Witch shouted simultaneously, “Go!”

Shi Hao channeled his energy and shot towards the spatial rift, just large enough for one person to pass through.

Shi Hao flew out of the black and white rift. The light vanished in a flash, and he landed in darkness.

He took a deep breath and waved his hand, a flame appearing in his palm.

By the light of the flame, he discovered he was in a mysterious underground palace.

Ye Zi Yin and Su Mei were gone. He saw bronze walls carved with mysterious patterns. In front of him was a stone platform with a pillar on it, and on the pillar was a round stone.

The stone was about the size of a pigeon egg, perfectly spherical.

Shi Hao knew this was the Jade Clarity Stone mentioned by the Holy Jade Immortal.

Using the flame in his hand, he stood before the platform and waited. After a short while, a soft click came from within the Jade Clarity Stone.

He didn’t know what the two women in the Primordial Grotto Heaven had done, but he saw the Jade Clarity Stone fall from the pillar.

Shi Hao quickly reached out and caught it. In his hand, the Jade Clarity Stone looked like an ordinary greyish-white pebble, but its perfectly round shape made it seem unique.

It was a strange impression, as if at first glance, one could tell that nothing else in the world could be so perfectly round.

The underground bronze palace began to shake.

Not daring to stay any longer, Shi Hao used the Soul Chasing Locking Steps, his figure flickering like a phantom, a mysterious flame trailing behind him as he sped away.

As soon as he emerged, torrential rain poured down. A bolt of lightning snaked across the sky, illuminating the night.

Shi Hao looked back and saw the mysterious bronze palace collapse, engulfed by cascading earth and stone.

As he ran, he wondered, “Why is it still night outside? Still raining?”

He had clearly spent many days in the Primordial Grotto Heaven, yet upon returning, it was the same familiar downpour, the same familiar night.

Lightning flashed across the sky, the rain poured down, and thunder rumbled.

A bolt of lightning struck from the sky, dazzling and bright, as if bringing unprecedented change to the darkness.

That fleeting brilliance illuminated the world—

  • I, The Man Who’ll Conquer Both the Immortal Venerable and the Demon Empress 6

Chapter 6: Cultivating Both Dao and Demon Arts

The cold energy surging upwards felt like it was tugging at all the nerves in his head, making Shi Hao feel like his skull was about to explode.

The hot energy flowing downwards created a completely different sensation, as if he was being split in two from his chest, a pain akin to being cut in half at the waist.

Every cell in his upper body felt frozen, while his lower body burned inside and out.

This duality of ice and fire made him feel like he was in hell, every moment an agonizing torment.

He knew this was a life-or-death situation, so he gritted his teeth, not daring to move a muscle.

He didn’t even let out a single groan.

The two energies, converging in his upper and lower dantians, reached their peak and then, like an exploding universe, surged through his meridians, washing over his insides.

He felt like molten lava in a high-pressure furnace, past its critical point, only held back from exploding by their forceful suppression.

This made the pain, the feeling that death would be a welcome relief, even more terrifying and agonizing.

He didn’t know how long this torment lasted; it felt like an eternity.

Finally, the Enchanting Fire Witch’s laughter reached his ears, “Not bad, you’re quite resilient.”

The Holy Jade Immortal’s voice also softened, “Just hold on a little longer, it’s almost over.”

Shi Hao began to feel the excruciating pain gradually subside.

He could sense two spheres of energy, one at the center of his forehead and the other in his lower dantian, rotating continuously but no longer causing him discomfort.

Two mysterious auras guided them, circulating through his meridians.

The Holy Jade Immortal’s voice came again, “Memorize the path and sequence of their flow, and cultivate on your own later.”

Shi Hao silently committed the flow of energy within his body to memory.

Shi Hao sat cross-legged beneath the seemingly sky-piercing stone pillar, his body emitting both scorching heat and chilling cold.

To his side, the Enchanting Fire Witch still had her legs crossed, her crimson skirt swaying with her swinging foot.

The Holy Jade Immortal stood quietly beneath a collapsed eave, where the remnants of a fire-eating beast could still be seen.

Both women stared at Shi Hao, their gazes filled with surprise.

The Enchanting Fire Witch laughed, “I didn’t expect him to actually circulate both the Mysterious Charm Technique and the Immortal Ice Technique simultaneously, unifying Dao and demon arts, achieving something no one has ever done before. Although we each gave him a portion of our foundational essence, his talent is still quite remarkable.”

The Holy Jade Immortal pondered for a moment and nodded… In truth, they had been grasping at straws, and deep down, she hadn’t believed it would work.

After a long while, the young man beneath the towering stone pillar suddenly let out a long howl and leaped into the air, soaring three zhang high. Even he was startled by his own jump. He had inadvertently reached such a height that he was about to fall back down.

The Holy Jade Immortal quickly said, “Focus your energy on your Shenting and Fengchi acupoints, release your true energy outwards, empty yourself, and control your energy with your mind.”

Shi Hao’s energy followed his thoughts, and a cold aura enveloped him. With the help of this icy wind, he slowly floated back down. When he landed, the cold air spread across the ground, forming a thin layer of ice particles.

He asked in astonishment, “What is this…”

The Enchanting Fire Witch, switching the leg she had crossed, kicked her skirt and laughed, “Don’t be so surprised. You received a small portion of our power, although it’s just a tiny fraction, in terms of foundation, you’ve already surpassed most eighth-rank martial artists.

“You could say you’re quite lucky. Normally, we would at most help you establish a basic foundation, assisting you in entering the ninth rank. The rest would be up to you to cultivate and breakthrough. But now, you’ve luckily skipped the ninth rank and reached the eighth rank directly. And because you’re cultivating two normally incompatible techniques simultaneously, your power surpasses that of ordinary eighth-rank martial artists. You’re truly fortunate.

“Of course, if you were unlucky, you’d be a pile of exploded flesh and blood before us right now.”

The Holy Jade Immortal said softly, “You currently only possess the power, not the corresponding martial arts techniques. We will each teach you a set of techniques that complement the Immortal Ice Technique and the Mysterious Charm Technique before sending you out.”

Shi Hao asked in surprise, “We can leave? Then why are you still here?”

Su Mei glanced at the Holy Jade Immortal, snorted, and said, “Working together, we can naturally send you out, but we can’t leave ourselves for the time being.”

Ye Zi Yin said impassively, “You were able to enter this place because we temporarily opened a spatial rift, inadvertently letting you in. Unfortunately, only one person can pass through this rift.

“We need to combine our powers to open the passage. If one of us leaves first, the other will be trapped here.”

And neither of you is willing to let the other leave while staying behind? Shi Hao thought to himself.

Su Mei smiled, “That’s one reason. The other reason is that we haven’t been able to unravel the secrets of ‘Primordial,’ so we’re not willing to leave just yet.”

Shi Hao asked, “Primordial? What’s that?”

Su Mei said, “This place is called the Primordial Grotto Heaven. Legend says it’s the ‘first Divine Ruin’ of all time, existing outside the three realms and beyond the five elements. We suspect that if we can unlock its secrets, we’ll be able to understand the origins of all the Divine Ruins and the divine crystals they contain.”

She sighed deeply, “Back then, I used the secrets of the Primordial Grotto Heaven as bait to lure the Daoist sects into a trap. But at that time, I thought this Primordial Grotto Heaven was fake. I made it look real, but it was just a trap.

“That woman over there, she also knew this ‘Primordial Grotto Heaven’ was fake. She was simply playing along. But neither of us expected… that it was actually real.”

Ye Zi Yin’s expression remained unchanged, but her tone was laced with regret, “The conflict between Daoists and Demons isn’t a recent development. In the beginning, we were just trying to outsmart each other, to severely weaken the other side. However, after discovering that this Primordial Grotto Heaven was actually real, the situation spiraled out of control. Countless people from both sides died, and in the end, after a fierce battle, we were trapped here.

“Thinking back now, the catastrophe that led to the Central Plains falling to the barbarians could have been avoided… Alas!”

Su Mei winked at Shi Hao and giggled, “But things are different now. Whether it’s an accident or punishment for the catastrophe we caused in the Central Plains martial world, you are now our man, our husband in all but name, and you’ve learned our techniques.

“We need you to do something for us after you leave. It might unravel the secrets of this Primordial Grotto Heaven and release us.”

Shi Hao asked, “What is it?”

Su Mei shook her head, “It’s too early to tell you now. Wait until you reach at least the fourth rank cultivation level.”

She glanced at Ye Zi Yin and giggled, “Now, who will teach him first, you or me? Oh, and should we decide who’s the senior wife? Hee hee!”

As a demonic witch, although she had been forced to lose her virginity, since it couldn’t be undone, she decided to use it to provoke the always-noble Holy Jade Immortal of the Taisu Immortal Pavilion.

Ye Zi Yin, aware of her intentions, refused to be easily provoked. Maintaining a calm demeanor, she said indifferently, “You’re younger than me, so even if we were to choose, you would be the junior wife.”

Su Mei pouted, “Oh my, little sister Zi Yin, such matters aren’t determined by age, but by who came first. Although it was a chaotic mess back then, if I remember correctly, at that time…”

A triumphant smile spread across her pretty face, “It was clearly me first!”

Ye Zi Yin clenched her fists…

Shi Hao followed behind Ye Zi Yin, keeping his eyes on her back.

Her figure was tall and slender, her posture graceful, her movements light and ethereal, radiating an otherworldly beauty, as if she could ascend to the heavens at any moment.

They arrived at a secluded spot with a waterfall cascading from an unseen void, forming a lake amidst the ruins and broken pillars.

Clearly, this was where the Holy Jade Immortal had bathed earlier.

Ye Zi Yin turned to face him, her expression serene, her gaze icy, her demeanor immortal-like and noble beyond words.

Shi Hao didn’t dare to show any disrespect because of their previous encounter. He stepped forward, cupped his hands, and bowed in a gesture of discipleship, “Immortal!”

Ye Zi Yin said softly, “Although I have established the foundation of the Immortal Ice Technique within you, Daoist cultivation is different from unorthodox paths. The scriptures are complex, the rules numerous, and every step is arduous. Initially, the difference between it and other martial arts sects might not be significant, but the longer you cultivate, the stronger your foundation becomes. Even achieving the effects of preserving youth and prolonging life is not uncommon.”

“Generally, orthodox Daoist cultivation focuses on both internal and external refinement. External elixirs are divided into nine ranks, from highest to lowest: Natural Dragon Embryo Elixir, Jade Embryo Nectar Paste, Purple Radiance Essence Pill, Vermilion Light Azure Cloud Pill, Red Radiance Divine Pill, Grand Clarity Golden Elixir, Nine Transformations Frost and Snow Pill, Nine Cauldrons Cloud Essence Pill, and Cloud Light Stone Flow Elixir.”

“Because I have directly instilled the foundation within you, you no longer need to refine the ninth-rank Cloud Light Stone Flow Elixir or the eighth-rank Nine Cauldrons Cloud Essence Pill. Next, you need to continue cultivating the Immortal Ice Technique to its peak, until you condense energy and form an elixir within your body.”

“I will also write down the ingredients and refining method for the seventh-rank Nine Transformations Frost and Snow Pill for you in advance. After you leave, while cultivating your internal elixir, remember to gather these ingredients beforehand. The ‘Nine Ranks Immortal Formula’ is essential for Daoist cultivation, but different sects, combined with different internal elixir cultivation methods, have their own variations of the formula.

“If it were before, if I were outside, such immortal branches, spiritual leaves, profound roots, and wondrous materials could be easily delivered to you. But now, times have changed. You’ll have to gather the ingredients for this seventh-rank Immortal Formula yourself.”

Shi Hao said, “Thank you, Immortal! I understand.”

With the Chongxian Sect controlling the Daoist school with the support of the barbarian court, finding the ingredients for the Daoist Immortal Formula would indeed be troublesome.

But the Holy Jade Immortal, trapped here, couldn’t help him.

As for him, having accidentally become intimate with her and directly skipping the ninth rank to enter the eighth rank, he couldn’t ask for more.

Ye Zi Yin said, “I will also teach you a sword technique called the Six Immortal Lightning Strikes, which can be used in conjunction with the Immortal Ice Technique. Practice the first three strikes with me here, and you can cultivate the remaining three on your own after you leave.”

Thereupon, Ye Zi Yin began to teach him the Daoist scriptures, the art of internal and external elixir cultivation. After he memorized everything, she carved a stone sword and guided him step by step through the first three strikes of the Six Immortal Lightning Strikes: “Ice Crystal Phantom Sword,” “Mysterious Firefly Flying Sword,” and “Ephemeral Sword Radiance.”

After he mastered these three strikes, she taught him the oral formulas and energy channeling methods for the remaining three strikes, along with a brief explanation.

Shi Hao passed through a tilted archway. When he saw the Enchanting Fire Witch Su Mei again, she was sitting on a jade armchair.

The armchair was exquisitely crafted, but one of its legs was broken and had been replaced with a stone.

She wore a light red robe, revealing her jade-like arms and delicate collarbone.

Her skin was clear and radiant, her demeanor relaxed, with water droplets still clinging to her.

Behind her was a ruined palace, with mist emanating from within, its contents unknown.

She reclined languidly in the comfortable jade chair, her hands clasped beneath her breasts, and smiled, “What did your little wife teach you?”

She seemed to relish the idea of being the “senior wife” and the Holy Jade Immortal the “junior wife.”

This made her feel like she had undoubtedly one-upped the Holy Jade Immortal.

Shi Hao answered honestly, “The Six Immortal Lightning Strikes.”

Su Mei chuckled, “It seems she didn’t hold back, teaching you the secret sword technique of the Taisu Immortal Pavilion right away. She must have also explained the Daoist Nine Ranks Immortal Formula and internal elixir cultivation, right?

“Daoist cultivation is extremely troublesome, and their scriptures are incredibly complex and difficult to understand. It requires immense comprehension and is a profound martial art. Our demonic cultivation, on the other hand, is much simpler, requiring only ‘rituals.’”

    Shi Hao asked, puzzled, “Rituals?”

Su Mei said, “That’s right, rituals! Do you know about the Demonic Realm?”

Shi Hao shook his head, “I’ve heard the term, but I don’t know much about it.”

Su Mei, reclining in the jade chair, spread her hands, “The Demonic Realm lies beyond the three realms and the five elements. It’s filled with countless Yin Demons, neither living nor dead, an extremely bizarre existence.

“It’s where the world’s negative karma gathers, the destination of the souls of countless cultivators who have succumbed to demonic influence throughout history.

“Since ancient times, countless demonized cultivators, upon death, have had their souls dragged into the Demonic Realm. There, their souls are torn to shreds, then constantly reassembled and reformed, transforming into endless Yin Demons. Of course, some are exceptionally powerful and become Demon Kings within the Demonic Realm.

“The Demonic Realm also contains vast and mysterious powers. Mortals cannot enter the Demonic Realm, but they can obtain these powers through specific rituals. These are the rituals of the demonic sects, simple and direct… and extremely dangerous!”
