    Chapter 69: “You’re Too Strong.”

    Her master sat down.

The brush, ink, paper, and inkstone were still on the table, but she ignored them, pouring herself a cup of water.

Mu Tao stared at the paper with the fingerprint, at the misspelled words, at the unfamiliar name, confusion swirling in her mind.

    Why were they all wrong?

Her master couldn’t possibly misspell words…

And why did her master write this unfamiliar name, Li Yu?

Different characters, but the same pronunciation…

Was her master trying to trick her?

But if so, why write the preceding sentence—that wasn’t her command.

Mu Tao couldn’t understand, tears blurring her vision again.

Her master was right; she was a crybaby.

A tear fell onto the paper, smudging the still-wet ink on the character “Yu.”

Mu Tao was startled. She quickly wiped away her tears, protected the paper with a spell, carefully folded it, and put it into her spatial pouch.

    “Master…”

    “Hmm?”

Mu Tao looked at Li Yu, her heart filled with questions, but she didn’t know where to begin.

What was the point of asking?

How many truthful answers could she possibly get now?

It was all just obedience under a spell.

Her master must be angry; the messy handwriting, the misspelled words, were all subtle signs of her displeasure.

Mu Tao panicked, not daring to look at Li Yu, and quickly put away the writing materials.

“What time is it?” Li Yu suddenly asked.

Mu Tao glanced out the window. “About noon in the human realm.”

    Li Yu: “I’m hungry.”

Mu Tao snapped out of her melancholy. “I’ll go and prepare a meal for Master!”

Li Yu: “And wash your face!”

    Mu Tao giggled. “I know!”

With that, she transformed into a dark flame and vanished.

When she returned, the room was unchanged, and Li Yu was still sitting at the table, staring blankly into her cup of water.

As if hearing Mu Tao’s return, Li Yu looked up and smiled. “What did you make today?”

Mu Tao quickly placed the food box on the table and took out the dishes.

“I had them bring some ingredients from the human realm. From now on, we’ll have fresh, seasonal produce delivered regularly, so Master can enjoy proper meals like before.”

“Mm.” Li Yu nodded slightly, her gaze still unfocused.

Mu Tao put the empty food box on the floor, picked up her chopsticks, and started feeding Li Yu, alternating between rice and dishes.

It had always been like this.

She liked feeding her master, it reminded her of their time in the human realm.

Back then, her master always seemed to need her.

She wished she could always be needed by her master like that.

Her master was so obedient, so gentle, so reliant on her now.

She should be happy, yet a hollowness lingered in her heart.

Like a bottomless, dark sea, slowly consuming her.

Mu Tao struggled against this emptiness.

She started chattering, trying to recapture the past.

Those days on Mount Chao Yao, in the human realm, or perhaps in some snowy wilderness, huddled around a fire, talking for hours even with bland grilled fish.

She said that spiritual fire needed to be maintained with spiritual energy, which her master currently lacked, making things inconvenient at night.

So, she had Xiang Hanyu bring candles from the human realm, along with candle holders and flint.

From now on, her master could control the light in the room.

She also said that many things in the Demon Realm were different from the human realm.

Although she had adapted, she didn’t want her master to be uncomfortable.

So, she had them create human-style furniture, which would soon replace the current furnishings.

Then her master would be more comfortable.

She suddenly ran out of things to say.

Mu Tao, not wanting the silence to return, asked, “Master, do you remember Xiang Hanyu?”

Li Yu: “I couldn’t forget her.”

Mu Tao: “After I came to the Demon Realm, she and Yan Buqiu found me. They’ve been with me these past six months, taking care of me whenever I was injured…”

    Li Yu: “That’s good.”

Mu Tao: “This care…Master risked your life for it; I don’t deserve it.”

Li Yu shook her head. “If you weren’t…who you are, they wouldn’t have stayed. You deserve it; you earned their loyalty.”

    Mu Tao’s hand paused momentarily.

Those words…sounded like her master from before.

Could her master, controlled by a spell, still say such things?

But her eyes were still unfocused, her expression vacant, regardless of her tone.

Mu Tao sighed softly and continued feeding her.

After lunch, she started clearing the table as usual.

“It should be almost time,” she said. “Your wedding attire should arrive soon.”

    Li Yu: “What about yours?”

Mu Tao: “It’s still being made. We’ll choose yours first.”

Li Yu tilted her head, took Mu Tao’s hand, and said, her tone slightly stubborn, “I’ll choose yours too.”

    Mu Tao paused. “Okay.”

Li Yu, having received the desired response, walked to the window and looked out at the dim sky.

“The sky in the Demon Realm is always so dark, yet you can tell the time.” She touched the barrier, a curious look on her face. “How do you do it?”

Mu Tao quickly walked to her side, as if afraid the barrier would harm her, and took her hand. “Don’t touch the barrier, Master, it might hurt you.”

    “Okay,” Li Yu replied obediently.

Mu Tao pointed at the flowers outside. “Master, have you noticed those flowers everywhere?”

    Li Yu nodded.

Mu Tao: “Do they look…different from before?”

Li Yu thought for a moment. “They seem…brighter.”

“These flowers grow everywhere in the Demon Realm,” Mu Tao said. “The Demon Realm lacks light, and most of its light comes from them—they’re called Netherbloom Flowers.”

    “Netherbloom Flowers…”

“Mm.” Mu Tao nodded and explained, “They’re the most common wildflowers in the Demon Realm. Their leaves are long, usually grayish-black, and their petals are translucent, coming in all colors.”

“They absorb and release nether energy every day. During the day, when the nether energy is weak, they show their true colors and glow with their respective light.” She continued, “At night, as the nether energy strengthens, they turn dark purple, almost black, emitting a black mist-like aura, then, around midnight in the human realm, they lose their light completely, only regaining it around dawn.”

Mu Tao smiled at Li Yu. “The demons here rely on the Netherbloom Flowers to tell the time.”

    “I see.”

“Sometimes I think…there’s no place in this world that’s truly dark. If a place is untouched by sunlight, moonlight, or starlight, it will create its own light.” Mu Tao said. “Like the Netherbloom Flowers in the Demon Realm.”

Suddenly, as if remembering something, Mu Tao ran outside.

She picked a blue flower from a nearby cluster and happily ran back to the window.

“Master, look!” Mu Tao smiled, her eyes crinkling. “This one’s the same color as your eyes!”

The translucent petals of the Netherbloom Flower glowed with a soft, blue light.

A gentle light, like the light in a dream.

Mu Tao reached through the barrier and offered the flower to Li Yu.

Li Yu took it and smiled faintly. “It’s beautiful.”

As she took the flower, a black flame flickered into its center.

Mu Tao: “I infused it with my spiritual energy, so it won’t wither so quickly.”

Li Yu stared at the flower, a thoughtful look on her face, then opened her left hand, palm up.

After a moment of silence, she closed her hand and lowered it.

“Master,” Mu Tao said, her head tilted curiously, her hands on the windowsill. “What were you doing just now?”

“I forgot,” Li Yu replied softly.

Mu Tao paused, removed her hands from the windowsill, and ran back into the room.

She took Li Yu’s hand and gently swayed it. “How could you forget? Think again, Master!”

The silver bells chimed softly. Li Yu seemed to think hard, then held Mu Tao’s hand and said calmly, “My meridians are still sealed.”

Mu Tao’s smile faded, her gaze lowering.

“You want to…undo the seal?” she asked.

    Li Yu nodded.

Mu Tao’s voice was filled with disappointment. “Why?”

Li Yu: “I haven’t retrieved the ice flower you gave me.”

Mu Tao blinked. “You…brought it with you?”

    Li Yu: “Mm.”

Mu Tao hesitated, then gently touched Li Yu’s forehead, and the demonic energy sealing her meridians dissipated.

Li Yu raised her hand, and the ice flower appeared in her palm.

Mu Tao stared at it as Li Yu placed it by the window. “Look, it’s still the same.”

Her master’s voice was soft, her vacant eyes staring at the ice flower.

It was still the same as last year, slightly melted even before she gave it to her master, not very pretty.

But even so, her master had preserved its shape, placed it by the window with a smile, saying she wanted to see it every morning.

She hadn’t believed her master when she said she had brought it.

But her master had indeed kept her promise.

    And what had she done?

Not only sealed her master’s meridians, but also used a mind-control spell…

After placing the ice flower by the window, Li Yu looked at the Netherbloom Flower in her hand, unsure where to put it, then placed it beside the ice flower.

She echoed her earlier words, “You gave these to me, I want to see them first thing every morning.”

Mu Tao frowned and muttered, “That’s not good…”

    Li Yu: “Why not?”

    Mu Tao: “…”

Li Yu stared at her, and Mu Tao lowered her gaze, guilt washing over her.

After a long moment, Mu Tao looked up and sealed Li Yu’s meridians again.

Li Yu didn’t react, just smiled faintly, her gaze fixed on Mu Tao.

Mu Tao suddenly hugged her, her arms around her slender waist, and whispered in her ear, “Master should see me first thing every morning.”

Li Yu chuckled softly. “Should I wake up later, or should you come earlier?”

This question, asked with an almost unfamiliar tone, made Mu Tao feel slightly disoriented.

But strangely, she didn’t dislike this unfamiliarity; it felt…right.

She felt that her master should always be like this.

    Perhaps she was going crazy.

Mu Tao playfully nuzzled Li Yu’s ear with her nose.

“After we’re married, won’t we be living together?” she said.

Li Yu smiled, about to say something, when a knock came from the door.

“Demon Lord, your wedding attire has arrived.” A demon maid’s voice echoed from outside.

“Master, it’s the wedding clothes!” Mu Tao released Li Yu and happily ran to the door.

As the door opened, the barrier temporarily dissipated, and five maids, each carrying a tray with neatly folded clothes, entered the room.

They placed the trays on the stone table, bowed, and left.

The moment the door closed, the barrier reappeared, the windows also closing, leaving only the flickering green spiritual fire illuminating the room.

Mu Tao led Li Yu to the table. “Which one do you want to try on first, Master?”

“Any one is fine,” Li Yu said with a faint smile.

Mu Tao looked at the five sets of wedding attire, each with matching accessories, deliberated for a moment, then picked one up and held it before Li Yu, tilting her head as she examined it.

She frowned. “This seems a bit too…flashy, not quite Master’s style.”

“It looks nice,” Li Yu reached for it.

Mu Tao shook her head, placed the clothes back on the tray, and picked up another set.

This one looked better, elegant but not overly ornate, more suitable for her master’s ethereal aura.

Thinking this, she held the attire before Li Yu, her eyes crinkling with a smile. “Master, let me help you try it on?”

    Li Yu nodded. “Okay.”

Mu Tao placed the clothes on the table, turned around, untied the sash of Li Yu’s robe, removed it, and tossed it aside.

Her slender fingers gently pulled at Li Yu’s robes, sliding them off her shoulders.

    Only a thin undergarment remained.

She really wanted to remove that too.

But it wasn’t time yet; she had promised to wait until they were married.

Mu Tao took a deep breath, cupped Li Yu’s face in her hands, her thumbs unconsciously tracing her delicate features.

Like quenching her thirst with the mere sight of water.

“Aren’t we trying on the clothes?” Li Yu asked calmly, her finger gently touching the red fabric on the table.

“Yes, of course!” Mu Tao quickly picked up the wedding attire and draped it over Li Yu’s shoulders.

She held Li Yu’s shoulders, moved behind her, and pulled her long hair out from the back of the robe.

The sash, the belt, the golden ornaments, she put them all on Li Yu, one by one.

Her hands moved around Li Yu’s slender waist, smoothing out every wrinkle on the wedding attire.

Finally, Mu Tao stepped back and looked at Li Yu, dressed in red.

Her master usually wore plain colors; this was the first time she had seen her in such a vibrant color, so beautiful it was breathtaking.

Her hair was slightly disheveled from changing clothes; she needed to fix it.

Mu Tao conjured a wooden comb and started combing Li Yu’s hair.

As her fingers moved through the soft strands, her gaze was drawn to the smooth skin of Li Yu’s neck.

After a moment of hesitation, she gently pulled Li Yu’s hair aside.

She wrapped an arm around Li Yu’s waist, nuzzling her face against her neck, inhaling her scent.

Her warm breath tickled Li Yu’s neck, a faint blush appearing on her skin.

Either from embarrassment or from the contrast with the red robe.

“Master…you look especially beautiful today,” Mu Tao whispered, looking up at Li Yu.

Li Yu didn’t respond, just turned slightly and looked at her.

Most of the time, after being controlled by the spell, Li Yu would just stare like this.

    A puppet’s obedience.

Mu Tao felt a surge of frustration, her heart pounding restlessly.

She didn’t like this vacant look in her master’s eyes, she preferred the anger, the panic, even the blush of embarrassment, anything but this unnerving calmness.

Her fingers unconsciously dug into the soft, white skin of Li Yu’s neck.

Li Yu flinched, a drop of blood welling up, staining the pristine white.

Mu Tao frowned, a sudden heat rising within her, making her eyes burn.

She couldn’t resist kissing the small wound.

A faint sweetness, a metallic tang, as she gently licked the blood.

She could feel the pulse throbbing beneath her lips.

A rapid, erratic rhythm, echoing the frantic beating of her own heart.

Unsatisfied, her teeth grazed Li Yu’s neck, breaking the skin.

    More blood.

    Li Yu’s breath hitched.

Her body trembled again, her hair cascading down, slipping through Mu Tao’s fingers.

The sting on her neck made her moan softly.

Like a shard of ice thawing in a frozen pond, a spark of awareness flickered within her.

Mu Tao’s light brown eyes had turned crimson.

A dark red aura enveloped them.

Blood trickled down Mu Tao’s lips, staining the white skin of Li Yu’s neck, a crimson stain against the pure white undergarment.

A fitting contrast to the vibrant red wedding attire.

“Mu Tao, what are you doing…weren’t we…trying on clothes…?”

Mu Tao ignored her, licking the blood, savoring the taste.

Li Yu’s breathing became more erratic, her usually composed body melting against Mu Tao.

Mu Tao held her tightly, her restlessness growing, a desire to tear away everything that separated them.

    The sound of tearing fabric.

Mu Tao’s warm fingers gently caressed the skin of Li Yu’s waist.

Li Yu instinctively grabbed her wrist but lacked the strength to stop her.

The silver bells on her wrist chimed softly as Mu Tao’s teeth grazed her neck again.

    “Mu Tao…it hurts…” Li Yu’s voice trembled.

The soft plea, accompanied by the sound of a falling pearl, echoed in Mu Tao’s heart like a morning bell.

Mu Tao paused, her mind slowly clearing, realizing that her vision was blurred with tears.

She released Li Yu’s neck, looking at the beads of sweat on her forehead, the red mark on her pale neck, the torn wedding attire, the exposed skin, now stained with blood.

    —Her breath hitched.

    Mu Tao: “Master…I, I’m sorry…”

Li Yu didn’t speak, just leaned weakly against her.

    Mu Tao: “I…I lost control…”

“It’s fine, there are other outfits,” Li Yu said, her eyes closed, a weak smile on her face.

    “…”

“Don’t…don’t help me with these anymore, I’ll choose myself later…before you ruin them all.”

    “I…”

Li Yu took a deep breath, nuzzled against Mu Tao’s chest, and asked softly, her tone like a gentle reprimand, “Who taught you to treat me like this?”

But her voice was flat, her eyes still unfocused.

Mu Tao gently lifted Li Yu and placed her on the bed, then knelt beside her, holding her hand, unsure what to do.

“Master, did…did my resentment hurt you?”

“I don’t know, probably not,” Li Yu whispered, then smiled faintly. “This body is weak, and you’re…too strong.”

Her body was weak, without even her protective spiritual energy.

How could she have let her desires hurt her master like this…?

Mu Tao shook her head. “It was my fault; I shouldn’t have sealed your meridians.”

She released the spell, her eyes filled with tears as she kissed Li Yu’s fingers.

Her voice choked with emotion, she whispered, “Master, if I ever do this again, please…scold me…”

    “…”

“I’ll return your spiritual energy, you can scold me, you can even hit me…”

    “…”

Silence fell, a deep, impenetrable silence.

A puppet was just a puppet.

If this were her true master, she would have been scolded relentlessly by now.

A soft sigh broke the silence.

“It’s so difficult,” Li Yu whispered, her eyes closed, her voice like a sigh, “Being your master…is truly difficult…more difficult than…cultivating alone…”

    “…”

  • Devilish Disciple [Transmigration] 68

    Chapter 68: “Little Crybaby”

Half a month ago, a joyous occasion was supposed to take place on Mount Chao Yao.

Two of the mountain’s revered ones were to be wed, and representatives from various immortal sects arrived to offer their congratulations.

However, on the eve of this joyous event, Cangming Revered One, one of the betrothed, secretly left Mount Chao Yao without a word, without even a letter of explanation.

Her departure was so discreet that only when a disciple went to Chaoxi Pond to deliver her wedding attire did they realize she was gone.

On the wedding day, with the bride missing, the guests were stunned.

Some were amused, some offered condolences, and some felt that Mount Chao Yao had made a fool of them.

They hadn’t received a satisfactory explanation for the Demon Bone incident.

And then, regarding the Heavenly Gate, Mount Chao Yao’s attitude had been incredibly hostile.

Now, having traveled a great distance for this joyous occasion, they were told the wedding was canceled because the bride had disappeared?

—Weren’t they being treated like fools?

Although Cangming Revered One’s reputation in the human realm was tarnished, she was still one of the Three Revered Ones of Mount Chao Yao, the only god currently residing in the human realm.

Such a marriage, without her consent, even under duress, wouldn’t have been approved by Qingxuan Revered One or the Mount Chao Yao disciples.

When the various sects arrived, they were told that Cangming Revered One had no objections and the entire mountain was celebrating.

If she had no objections, and the disciples were celebrating, why did she suddenly flee? And where could she have gone?

    The answer was obvious.

—Didn’t she have a disciple, a Demon Lord now, in the Demon Realm?

She had stubbornly insisted on sending the Demon Bone to the Demon Realm, and now that the Demon Bone had become the Demon Lord, she chose to flee to the Demon Realm on the eve of her wedding, right when all the immortal sects were gathered on Mount Chao Yao.

This was a deliberate act of defiance, a blatant mockery!

Cangming Revered One was clearly siding with the demons, showing no respect for the immortal sects!

Besides this speculation, other rumors circulated.

Some said that she had been forced, that Lingyao Revered One had come to Mount Chao Yao for her.

Now that her reputation was tarnished and she was injured, he wanted to force her into marriage, and she had no way to resist.

Others said that she didn’t escape on her own, that her disciple, the Demon Lord, had taken her—because someone claimed to have seen a dark cloud of resentment on the horizon the day before the wedding.

But without proof, the immortal sects didn’t accept these explanations.

Regardless of the reason, they had traveled a great distance for nothing, only to witness a farce.

Everyone turned to look at Weisheng Xuanzhu.

They expected some kind of explanation, some reaction, from the groom whose bride had run away.

But he simply said indifferently, “So be it.”

As he spoke, everything red within sight instantly froze, then shattered into countless ice shards as he turned and left.

    Silence fell upon the crowd.

There would be no explanation; no one dared demand one from the Kun Peng Monarch of the North Sea.

So, everyone turned to Qingxuan Revered One, who hadn’t left yet.

She shrugged and said, “Why are you looking at me? It’s not my wedding.”

Then, she muttered, “Why did he have to freeze my flowers too…”

    So rude!

Si Qinglan had always known that Weisheng Xuanzhu was rude.

As a flower that bloomed in sunlight, she naturally wouldn’t bicker with a fish from the cold, dark depths.

But this time, his rudeness was excessive.

She knew he had liked Li Yu for a long time, but that wasn’t an excuse to use such underhanded methods!

Normally, anyone who dared to be this disrespectful on Mount Chao Yao would be expelled.

But this situation was different; she couldn’t defeat him, so she chose to feign ignorance and endure.

After Li Yu left, Si Qinglan had expected Weisheng Xuanzhu to confront her, knowing she was involved.

But she waited anxiously for days, until all the other sects left, and the mountain gate was closed again, yet he never came.

She thought about it, the more she thought, the more uneasy she felt. Finally, she couldn’t stand it anymore and went to Qingke Hua, tracking Weisheng Xuanzhu’s aura until she found him.

She pushed open his door with a forceful surge of spiritual energy—at least, the sound was loud.

Not breaking down the door directly was her being polite!

But before she could even enter, a wave of icy coldness assaulted her, forcing her to strengthen her protective barrier.

He was cultivating, the frost and snow in the room swirling around him in a strange pattern, like a rotating nebula.

    “Weisheng Xuanzhu!”

As her angry shout echoed, the frost and snow instantly vanished.

He slowly opened his eyes, his gaze calm and emotionless as he looked at Si Qinglan.

“Something the matter?” he asked indifferently.

    As if nothing had happened.

Si Qinglan frowned. “Don’t you…know what you did?”

Weisheng Xuanzhu: “If it’s about Li Yu, there’s no need to discuss it.”

Si Qinglan: “No need to discuss it? After causing such a scene, such a huge embarrassment, you’re just dismissing it?!”

Weisheng Xuanzhu: “You were the one who let her go. If I don’t dismiss it, how do you expect me to hold you accountable?”

Si Qinglan faltered. “You…you knew all along?”

He didn’t answer, just asked in return, “If you didn’t want this to happen, why interfere?”

    Si Qinglan was speechless.

He had never confronted her, so she assumed he hadn’t suspected her involvement.

Or perhaps he had, but was too ashamed to confront her, since he himself was also responsible.

She hadn’t expected him to not only know about her actions, but also be so…unapologetic.

Si Qinglan frowned, her expression shifting. After a moment of silence, she asked, “You’re holding me accountable?”

    “Shouldn’t I?”

“After what you did, you’re holding me accountable?” Si Qinglan was so angry she almost laughed. She entered the room, erected a soundproof barrier, and shouted, “You know what you did to Li Yu! I didn’t release her; you drove her away!”

Weisheng Xuanzhu didn’t speak, just stared at the furious Si Qinglan.

“How could you do this?! How dare you!” Si Qinglan continued angrily. “Taking advantage of her like that, even if you have her now, what do you truly have? A soulless puppet, is that what you want?!”

    Weisheng Xuanzhu: “Yes.”

    Si Qinglan: “…”

    Yes? He actually said yes?

Si Qinglan suddenly felt like she didn’t know him at all.

“Weisheng Xuanzhu, I considered you a friend! We’ve known each other for over three thousand years! When you’re in hibernation, I even have my disciples guard your resting place! How could I not have known you were this kind of person?!”

“Thank you for your trouble,” Weisheng Xuanzhu replied indifferently, “But I didn’t need it.”

Si Qinglan laughed in exasperation. “If I did something like this, I’d be so ashamed I’d want to hide. And you’re just sitting here, acting like nothing happened!”

    Weisheng Xuanzhu: “Don’t worry.”

    Si Qinglan: “…”

Weisheng Xuanzhu: “I’ll leave when the time comes.”

Si Qinglan: “What do you mean?”

Weisheng Xuanzhu: “I read that letter. I left it there, hoping you would see it.”

Si Qinglan’s eyes widened in surprise.

Weisheng Xuanzhu: “The news of the wedding spread far and wide; Mu Tao would definitely come to take her away. If you discovered it in time, the Demon Bone wouldn’t set foot on Mount Chao Yao.”

Si Qinglan: “And if I didn’t?”

Weisheng Xuanzhu: “Then we would fight. She would be taken away either way.”

Si Qinglan was confused, her brow furrowed. She couldn’t understand his motives.

Was he…trying to get them together?

Had he also noticed their relationship…?

But Li Yu’s letter was filled with resolute determination; she was clearly prepared to go to the Demon Realm alone.

If he wanted to help them, why not just…not interfere?

Si Qinglan: “Tell me, why…why are you doing all of this?”

“This isn’t something you can interfere with,” Weisheng Xuanzhu said in a low voice. “Si Qinglan, for the sake of our long acquaintance, I won’t involve Mount Chao Yao, and I won’t harm you. Don’t dig any deeper.”

Si Qinglan: “What are you talking about?!”

    Weisheng Xuanzhu: “Just go.”

Just go? How could she possibly be at ease?

His words were increasingly strange. What did he mean by “not involving Mount Chao Yao,” “not harming her”?

And if she did dig deeper, what would she find?

Si Qinglan was momentarily confused, then she seemed to understand. “You didn’t just…want her? No, you never wanted her! She left, and you didn’t even react… What…what are you planning?”

    “…”

Seeing his silence, Si Qinglan stepped closer, her brow furrowed, her voice filled with suspicion. “You did something to Li Yu, didn’t you? You’re using her to harm Mu Tao!”

    “…”

“What’s your goal?!” she demanded. “To eliminate the Demon Bone for the human realm? Or something else…”

Weisheng Xuanzhu: “Knowing these things will benefit neither you nor Mount Chao Yao.”

    Si Qinglan: “…”

    Should she continue questioning him?

    The answer seemed dangerous.

He was willing to manipulate even Li Yu for this; perhaps this truly wasn’t something she could interfere with.

But could she just…stand by and watch?

“Weisheng, we’ve known each other for so long, is there anything we can’t discuss openly?” Si Qinglan said softly. “Perhaps…we can help you.”

She received no answer, only silence.

The kite outside the window soared high in the sky, like a free bird.

But Si Qinglan suddenly felt that everything she knew, everything she was familiar with, was trapped, bound by an invisible force.

Nothing was truly free, not even her.

She chuckled humorlessly and nodded. “Fine, I won’t interfere, I won’t get involved anymore! Come and go as you please, do whatever you want, just don’t ask me to clean up your mess…”

“After you’re all gone, I’ll pretend I never knew any of you!” Si Qinglan said, dispelling the soundproof barrier and leaving without looking back.

They were all heartless, she thought.

Just leave, and take that damn Lamp with you, before it explodes on her mountain!

After they were all gone, she would turn Chaoxi Pond and Qingke Hua into her personal garden!

    Such a waste of space!

As she fumed, she saw the human woman Li Yu had brought back.

She was flying the kite, the little black bird by her side.

Her bell-like laughter echoed in the otherwise quiet world.

Always bringing back trouble, good riddance…

Although she didn’t want to be involved, a wave of worry washed over her.

Perhaps she should find a way to send a message to the Demon Realm.

Li Yu, Mu Tao, don’t fall for his trap!

Mu Tao hummed a tune from Mount Chao Yao, gently brushing Li Yu’s long, dark hair with a sandalwood comb.

Her master’s usual hairstyle was simple, not adorned with elaborate accessories.

She had tried many hairpins but couldn’t find one worthy of her master.

In the end, she could only tie a soft blue ribbon around Li Yu’s hair, adding a few simple pearl ornaments.

“Why am I even bothering? Master looks beautiful no matter what.”

She leaned her chin on Li Yu’s shoulder, her cheek against hers, and looked at their reflections in the mirror. “What do you think, Master?”

“It’s good,” Li Yu replied, her voice emotionless.

“Master has never combed my hair before. Can you…do my hair today?”

    “Okay.”

Mu Tao happily helped Li Yu up, sat down before the mirror, removed her orange-red ribbon, and placed it in Li Yu’s outstretched hand.

Her long hair cascaded down her back. Li Yu stood behind her, picked up the wooden comb, and started combing her hair, her gaze lowered.

Her movements were rough, not gentle at all, pulling at Mu Tao’s hair, making her wince.

But her complaints were ignored; Li Yu would pause momentarily after each wince, but her touch didn’t soften.

And after finally combing it smooth, she gathered all the hair and tied it into a messy, thick ponytail with the ribbon.

Mu Tao puffed out her cheeks, frowning at her reflection. After a long moment, she muttered, “Master, this isn’t…pretty…”

    “It is,” Li Yu said.

    “How is it pretty?”

    “It is.”

    “…”

Mu Tao took a deep breath and used a spell to redo her hair.

She stood up, pouting. “Master is just humoring me!”

    Li Yu: “I’m not.”

A flicker of disappointment appeared in Mu Tao’s eyes.

She took the comb from Li Yu, placed it on the dressing table, led Li Yu to the bed, and sat down beside her.

“Master, someone will bring some wedding attire later, you can try them on and choose whichever you like.”

    Li Yu: “Okay.”

Mu Tao smiled and kissed her forehead.

Li Yu looked at her, a faint smile on her lips.

No surprise, no anxiety, no attempt to avoid the contact.

This was rare and precious, and Mu Tao couldn’t help but wrap her arms around Li Yu’s neck, nuzzling against her.

Her master’s scent, the scent she craved,

    Every bit of it intoxicating.

“Like a little puppy,” Li Yu said.

Mu Tao, hearing this, gently nibbled on Li Yu’s lips as punishment.

A soft moan escaped Li Yu’s lips.

Mu Tao looked at her, but Li Yu’s eyes were unfocused.

    Mu Tao paused.

    How boring…

    She bit down harder.

    Another soft moan.

The faint taste of blood brought her back to reality.

She quickly released Li Yu, her heart pounding, pulling away slightly.

A spot of blood appeared on Li Yu’s pale lips.

Like a plum blossom blooming in the snow, a stark contrast, yet strangely beautiful.

Mu Tao gently touched Li Yu’s lips with her thumb, smudging the blood.

    “Does it hurt, Master?”

    “No.”

    “I didn’t mean to.”

    “It’s fine.”

Mu Tao bit her lip, trying to hold back her tears, but they fell anyway.

Li Yu reached out and gently wiped them away with her sleeve.

“Don’t cry, it hurts me to see you cry.”

A sharp pang in Mu Tao’s heart made the tears flow even more freely.

    It was all fake…

    Just the spell’s control.

There were only two things Li Yu needed to do.

—Obey her and be kind to her.

    Orders superseded instinct.

Mu Tao knew Li Yu wasn’t truly unconscious, that she would remember everything when she woke up.

Lingyao Revered One must have controlled Master like this too.

He also wanted her master this way.

How could her master be happy?

The moment she regained consciousness, she would try to escape.

She had escaped Lingyao Revered One; would she escape her too?

Mu Tao couldn’t understand, or perhaps she didn’t dare to think about it.

She felt like a thief, stealing these precious moments.

And stolen things were always returned eventually…

Mu Tao’s heart ached, and she grabbed Li Yu’s hand. “Don’t…don’t wipe them anymore.”

Li Yu paused, then continued wiping her tears.

“Why…why can’t I stop them?” she asked, her voice soft, a mix of confusion and gentle persuasion. “Mu Tao, don’t cry anymore, your eyes are all swollen.”

Why was this happening? She was being comforted for doing something wrong.

Mu Tao didn’t understand, her heart aching.

“Master!” She couldn’t help but throw herself into Li Yu’s arms, burying her face against her chest, her voice choked with tears. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry…”

Li Yu gently patted her back.

Mu Tao repeated her apologies, as if hoping they would reach Li Yu’s heart.

She had apologized countless times, her throat dry, her tears soaking Li Yu’s robes.

Then she asked timidly, “No matter what I do wrong, Master…won’t abandon me, right…?”

“I won’t,” Li Yu replied, gently stroking her hair.

Mu Tao’s voice was muffled against her chest. “Really?”

    Li Yu: “Mm.”

Mu Tao shook her head slightly. “…That’s a lie.”

    Li Yu: “It’s true.”

    Mu Tao: “…”

Li Yu: “Seeing you cry…hurts me.”

Mu Tao froze, then forced a smile, her eyes still red. “Then I won’t cry anymore!”

Li Yu pinched her cheek gently.

This small gesture made Mu Tao feel a flicker of hope.

She looked up at Li Yu, searching for a spark of genuine emotion in those blue eyes, but they were unfocused, distant.

What was she expecting? This was her own doing.

Her master was here, obedient, even kind to her.

    Every word, every tear, acknowledged.

Mu Tao gently caressed Li Yu’s face, her tear-filled eyes fixed on her.

She told herself to be happy.

This wasn’t a bad thing; her master would always be with her.

    But…

    Was this truly…her master?

She tilted her head, a blank look in her eyes.

Not yet, she couldn’t undo the spell yet.

    She needed more time.

After their wedding, when everyone knew about their relationship, no one would dare covet her master anymore.

Then, she could truly have her master, without any pretense.

“Master, wait a little longer, just give me a little more time…”

    “Wait for what?”

Mu Tao played with the sash of Li Yu’s robe, avoiding her gaze. “Wait for me…to marry you…”

Wait for me to marry you, wait for you to truly belong to me.

I’ll undo the spell; then you can punish me however you want.

She would only make this mistake once.

She wouldn’t make any more mistakes.

“Master said yesterday that you would marry me, you won’t…go back on your word, right?”

She carefully took Li Yu’s hands in hers. “You wouldn’t lie to me again, right?”

    “Right.”

    “Then…say it again?”

“I’m waiting to marry you,” Li Yu said with a smile.

“Words are meaningless!” Mu Tao thought for a moment, then, shaking Li Yu’s wrist, listening to the soft chiming of the bells, she said playfully, “Write it down, Master, and leave your fingerprint!”

Li Yu frowned slightly. “Where would I find paper and a brush?”

Mu Tao immediately stood up. “I’ll go find some!”

She hurried out of the room, like a little rabbit.

The door remained open, the barrier still active.

Li Yu leaned against the doorframe and waited.

    Mu Tao quickly returned.

“Master!” She took Li Yu’s hand and led her to the table.

With a flick of her wrist, a brush, ink, paper, and inkstone, along with bright red ink paste, appeared on the table.

“I’ll grind the ink for Master!” Mu Tao poured some water into the inkstone and carefully started grinding the inkstick.

Li Yu watched as the ink darkened, then picked up the brush.

She looked at Mu Tao, her eyes unfocused. “What…what should I write?”

Mu Tao thought for a moment. “Just write, ‘I sincerely want to marry Mu Tao.’”

Li Yu nodded and clumsily wrote the sentence on the paper.

I sincerely want to marry Mu Tao.

“Finished,” she said, looking up. “Should I leave my fingerprint now?”

“No, no.” Mu Tao frowned, looking at the messy handwriting, both surprised and displeased. “That’s not how you write it, Master!”

    Li Yu: “Why not?”

Mu Tao pointed at the sentence. “—’I sincerely want to marry Mu Tao.’ This ‘I’ isn’t clear, who knows who ‘I’ refers to? If you try to deny it later, I won’t have any proof!”

Li Yu thought for a moment, discarded the paper, and wrote it again.

Li Yu sincerely wants to marry Mu Tao.

This time, Mu Tao’s frown deepened.

She looked at Li Yu, her eyes reddening. “You wrote it wrong again, Master!”

    Li Yu: “What’s wrong?”

Mu Tao: “Your name, you misspelled your name! Are you doing this on purpose?”

Li Yu looked confused. “It’s correct.”

    Mu Tao: “No, it’s wrong!”

“It’s not wrong!” A hint of impatience appeared in Li Yu’s eyes. “That’s how you write it.”

    Mu Tao: “…”

    Li Yu: “…”

Mu Tao persisted, “Look again, Master, are you sure it’s not wrong?”

Li Yu tilted her head, examined the characters carefully for a long moment, then said, “Oh, it seems I did make a mistake.”

“Then write it again, Master.” Mu Tao sniffled, placing another sheet of paper before her.

Li Yu picked up the brush and thought for a long, long time, until Mu Tao was almost in tears again, then she finally wrote, her gaze unfocused,

Li Yu and Mu Tao’s bond is not just that of master and disciple. Li Yu sincerely wants to marry Mu Tao.

She pressed her finger into the ink paste and stamped her fingerprint beneath the messy handwriting.

She looked up at Mu Tao, a hint of amusement in her eyes. “Is that better?”

    Mu Tao: “…”

Li Yu: “Why do you still look unhappy?”

She seemed to think for a moment, then playfully smudged some of the red ink paste on Mu Tao’s nose. “Little crybaby.”

    Mu Tao’s eyes widened.

For a fleeting moment, there was a spark of clarity in her master’s gentle eyes.

Li Yu wiped the remaining ink paste on the discarded papers.

Then, her voice no longer as emotionless, she said, “Keep this safe. I’m only writing such an embarrassing thing once in my life.”

That fleeting expression, that tone, as if they had never truly existed.

When Mu Tao looked again, she only saw the usual vacant stare.

Chapter 67: “Will Master Marry Me?” p2

Li Yu’s affirmation clearly pleased Mu Tao.

    But the joy was fleeting.

Her expression became more complex, her brow furrowing slightly, as if struggling with something.

“Mu Tao, what’s wrong?” Li Yu couldn’t help but ask, worried.

“Even if I remove this barrier, Master…will you truly stay in the Demon Realm with me?”

“I’ve never considered leaving.” Li Yu explained earnestly, “What happened before…I had no choice, and I can’t explain why. If I had a choice, I would never have abandoned you.”

Mu Tao’s eyes reddened, tears blurring her vision.

She asked softly, “Do you…truly care about me that much, Master?”

    Li Yu: “I do!”

Mu Tao: “I know you have your reasons, and I won’t ask why you abandoned me… But I really want to know…in your heart, besides our master-disciple bond, do you truly…have no other feelings for me?”

    Li Yu: “…”

    Could she answer this?

Mu Tao: “Is it…that difficult to answer?”

    Li Yu: “…”

In Mu Tao’s current, clearly unstable state, if she admitted to having romantic feelings, wouldn’t Mu Tao immediately…

Seeing Li Yu’s silence, Mu Tao wiped away her tears, her voice choked with emotion. “During the Cloud Platform Trial, Master, to save me, you recklessly broke through your cultivation despite your injuries…”

“You knew…I had the Heavenly Demon’s Demon Bone, the most dangerous thing in this world. Even if you couldn’t bring yourself to kill me, for the sake of the world, you should have kept me weak and trapped on Mount Chao Yao.” She couldn’t help but ask, her voice filled with confusion, “Didn’t you do that for over two hundred years? Why…why did you suddenly change your mind, giving me the manual, taking me to the human realm, teaching me spells?”

“In the City of the Undying, to find me, you endured the backlash, broke through the illusion…”

“In the bamboo forest of Lingzhou, when I lost control, you risked your life to awaken me…”

“When everyone wanted me dead, you abandoned everything, endured severe injuries, took me away from Mount Chao Yao, protected me, and sent me to the Demon Realm…”

“Was it all…just my wishful thinking?”

Mu Tao raised her right hand.

With a flash of dark light, a string of silver bells, tied with a red string, appeared on her wrist.

The broken string, the cracked bells, all repaired with a spell.

The oath was broken; they were just ordinary bells now, yet she still wore them, concealed by a spell.

“The Harmony Bells…they represent a lifelong promise, right? I didn’t know that before, but Master…didn’t you?” She asked, her voice filled with a quiet desperation. “When we first went to the human realm, you personally tied them on me…was that also…just my wishful thinking?”

Mu Tao said, “Master, I’ve always…always believed you had your reasons.”

But even with those reasons, her master still left.

    Without a single explanation.

In that darkness, she saw her master’s tears for the first time.

That single pearl, left behind, like a final memento.

She had thought about it countless times, what her master’s reasons were…

    And what those tears meant…

She couldn’t understand her master’s reasons.

But she believed that pearl, that tear, was proof that her master still cared.

But was a single tear enough?

Perhaps her master was just…in pain…

But if her master truly didn’t care anymore, how could she find the courage to survive alone in the Demon Realm?

    She was so conflicted.

So conflicted that a single tear could wage war in her heart for so long.

Regarding her master’s affection, she both desperately wanted to believe it and didn’t dare to.

Every day and night in the Demon Realm, she had repeatedly told herself—even though the Harmony Bells were broken, it didn’t mean her master didn’t care anymore.

Her master was still the one who would do anything for her, defy the world for her.

Her master’s feelings for her couldn’t be less than her love for her master.

Her master left because something stood between them.

She didn’t know what it was, but even though her master had returned, that obstacle still remained.

Even her tears and tantrums couldn’t elicit an answer.

She had thought countless times—her master’s words must be true, but sincerity in the present couldn’t guarantee the future.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to believe her master, but if those reasons could make her master leave once, couldn’t they make her leave again?

She couldn’t bear to lose her master a second time.

Mu Tao’s voice choked with tears.

Li Yu wanted to make a promise, but promises seemed meaningless now.

Unless the system’s restrictions were lifted, allowing her to explain everything.

    But that was impossible.

Mu Tao wiped away her tears and looked up at Li Yu, her eyes filled with a quiet desperation, asking again, “Do you truly…only have master-disciple feelings for me?”

Li Yu looked into Mu Tao’s eyes, the crimson deepening, and felt a sharp pang in her chest.

Was it because of the curse that she couldn’t respond to these genuine feelings?

She hesitated, unsure, afraid to answer, lowering her gaze to avoid Mu Tao’s eyes.

She desperately tried to untangle the mess in her mind, to find a reason—a reason to confess her true feelings.

What was the hidden main storyline the system insisted on?

She still had 30% of her mission left, and this 30% had clearly deviated from the original story.

The system had said that her purpose was to preserve the crucial plot points while guiding the story back to its original, more logical outline…

Although she didn’t want to admit it, this outline must be related to the Heavenly Demon.

The Upper Spirit Lamp, containing the Heavenly Demon’s soul fragment, was guarded by Mount Chao Yao. The novel repeatedly mentioned the ancient battle, yet the Heavenly Demon itself never appeared.

The only time the Lamp played a significant role was when it broke the seal on Mu Tao’s Demon Bone.

After that, it was resealed and never mentioned again.

Even the crucial information about Mu Tao’s Demon Bone being connected to the Heavenly Demon was omitted by the author.

And the black-robed figure, who didn’t exist in the original story, Weisheng Xuanzhu, who was essentially a background character for half the novel and then conveniently killed off, was the one trying to revive the Heavenly Demon.

The starting point of this entire story seemed to be the centuries-old resentment of the southern kingdom.

And this resentment wouldn’t have become so potent without Weisheng Xuanzhu’s influence.

So, the revival of the Heavenly Demon was planned from the beginning.

But the author, finding it too difficult to write, drastically changed the plot before the clues were fully revealed?

So, in the revised story, the Demon Bone was no longer connected to the Heavenly Demon, and the hidden antagonist, plotting the Demon’s revival, became a disposable character.

The foreshadowing was never resolved, the plot couldn’t continue logically, and forcing a new storyline onto the existing foundation caused the entire story, both characters and plot, to collapse.

Now, everything was back on track—so, the little protagonist’s final mission, with her Demon Bone, would be to confront the Heavenly Demon?

If so, staying here was just delaying the inevitable, not changing the outcome.

If she couldn’t tell Mu Tao any of this,

Then she could at least try to face it with her,

Instead of pushing her away out of fear…

Although she had so much she couldn’t say, she could at least tell Mu Tao her true feelings!

As for the curse, as long as Mu Tao was calm, she could surely find a way to subtly warn her.

Only then could she regain her freedom and discuss the Heavenly Demon with Mu Tao as equals.

Thinking this, Li Yu looked up at Mu Tao, a sense of relief washing over her.

    “Mu Tao, I…”

Just as she spoke, Mu Tao stood up and walked towards her.

She gently cupped the back of Li Yu’s neck.

As her fingers tangled in Li Yu’s hair, she leaned in, silencing Li Yu with a kiss.

The kiss was forceful, possessive, making Li Yu’s breath catch.

She instinctively tried to pull away,

But Mu Tao pushed her onto the stone table, her knee pressing against Li Yu’s legs, making her freeze.

She tried to push Mu Tao away, but the silver bells on her wrist chimed softly, the sound seemingly encouraging Mu Tao.

What was this? Had she gone mad?

    Li Yu struggled harder.

Mu Tao, sensing her labored breathing, briefly released her lips.

Li Yu gasped, trying to speak, but Mu Tao kissed her again, silencing her.

    This was insane…

    Li Yu’s cheeks burned.

Thankfully, this kiss was gentler, less forceful.

Like a dragonfly skimming the water, soft touches, like an apology, a plea.

But she wouldn’t stop, afraid that if she did, Li Yu would say something she didn’t want to hear.

Every shared breath was a desperate plea.

Li Yu gradually stopped struggling, trying to calm Mu Tao by responding to her kisses.

Tears fell, each drop echoing loudly in the silent room.

Mu Tao finally released her, a deep-seated resentment in her tear-filled eyes.

“Master always has so many concerns, I never know…where I stand with you.”

“But you…you’re the only one in my heart…”

    “This isn’t…fair…”

    “Please…don’t make me…just watch from afar anymore…”

She whispered these words, a dark red aura enveloping them.

Li Yu wanted to speak, but her mind felt foggy.

    “Master…do you think…what we’re doing…is inappropriate?”

    “Yes, I’m being unreasonable, I shouldn’t be so hasty…”

    “Will Master marry me?”

    “With a proper title…would you…stop rejecting me?”

As the aura dissipated, the blue in Li Yu’s eyes faded.

All her worries, her hesitation, her surprise, vanished.

She whispered, “Alright, I’ll marry you.”

Mu Tao finally heard the words she longed for.

After a moment of silence, she wiped away her tears and knelt at Li Yu’s feet,

Like she used to, when watching the stars alone.

She extended a finger, counting the fallen pearls, one by one.

  • Devilish Disciple [Transmigration] 67p1

Chapter 67: “Will Master Marry Me?” p1

The young girl’s gaze was fixed on her, a calculating glint in her bright eyes.

Under this scrutiny, Li Yu’s mind felt foggy, her senses focused solely on the warm, soft touch of Mu Tao’s lips.

As Mu Tao released her hand, a slight chill replaced the lingering warmth.

Li Yu snapped back to reality, her cheeks burning as she quickly pulled her hand back, hiding it in her sleeve.

She now understood the reason for that strange dream.

With Mu Tao acting like this every day, it was a miracle she didn’t have nightmares every night.

She was trapped here, like a dessert laid out on a table, to be sampled at Mu Tao’s whim.

As Li Yu thought this, Mu Tao spoke again.

Mu Tao: “I’ve made Master’s hands dirty, let me wash them for you.”

Li Yu instinctively shook her head and was about to get up and wash them herself, but Mu Tao picked up a wet cloth from the basin with a flick of her wrist.

“I’ll do it,” Mu Tao said, walking over to Li Yu.

She smiled, crouched down, took Li Yu’s hand again, and carefully wiped her fingers, her expression earnest.

Although Li Yu’s hands were clean, Mu Tao showed no intention of letting go.

    Li Yu coughed lightly.

Mu Tao put down the cloth and looked up, smiling. “Master’s hands are so beautiful.”

She reluctantly released Li Yu’s hands and stood up, picking up the bowl of porridge.

Mu Tao: “It’s still hot, Master. I’ll cool it down for you.”

Li Yu: “I can do it myself…”

A flicker of disappointment, a subtle hint of displeasure, appeared on Mu Tao’s face.

She wasn’t asking; she was saying—If Master refuses, I will be unhappy.

Just a day after their reunion, and Mu Tao was completely different from what Li Yu remembered.

She felt both familiar and unfamiliar.

Neither the sweet, clingy disciple from before, nor the cold, ruthless killer from the latter half of the novel, resembled the Mu Tao before her.

Li Yu had expected to encounter the cold and distant Mu Tao from the original story.

But she was met with a Mu Tao she had never imagined.

This Mu Tao was a bundle of contradictions.

She seemed to dislike her former self, yet she believed her master only liked that version of her.

So she tried to suppress something, to act like her past self.

But it was just an act.

Beneath the seemingly innocent facade, there were flashes of unrestrained desire and a deep-seated hurt, perhaps resentment, perhaps grievance, perhaps just…sadness.

Sometimes, Li Yu couldn’t tell whether Mu Tao’s smiles were genuine.

But she knew that beneath these contradictions lay an impenetrable wall.

Compared to the cold, ruthless killer, this confusing, contradictory Mu Tao was even more difficult to approach.

    Li Yu ultimately relented.

If she had a choice, she wouldn’t want Mu Tao to be unhappy because of her.

Seeing her agree, Mu Tao happily sat beside her, carefully cooling each spoonful of porridge before feeding her.

Throughout breakfast, Li Yu barely lifted a finger.

This reminded her of when she was recuperating in Songxiang Town, her body weak, yet her mind at ease.

Perhaps that was when she first realized that this world wasn’t so bad, that there were things worth cherishing.

And she had been able to realize this because her once precarious character compatibility had finally stabilized after the City of the Undying incident.

Only when one felt safe could they truly appreciate the good things in life.

As Li Yu was lost in thought, Mu Tao also seemed to be reminiscing about that time.

Mu Tao: “Master, do you remember, when you were injured in the City of the Undying, this disciple cared for you like this.”

“How could I forget?” Li Yu smiled faintly. “When I woke up, you were sleeping by my bedside, just like yesterday… It was just dawn, and the candle had almost burned down.”

“Master has such a good memory.”

“Actually, my memory is quite bad.” Li Yu thought, her memory was indeed terrible; she often forgot things immediately after seeing or hearing them. “But some things…I remember more clearly.”

And things related to Mu Tao, she always remembered clearly.

She hadn’t understood why before, but now she did.

Mu Tao was no longer just a character from a novel, a world-destroying demon who needed to be saved.

She had arrived empty-handed, with little to offer.

And Mu Tao, also possessing nothing then, had repaid her meager companionship with unwavering devotion.

Even simple things like two meals a day, daily greetings, and those sweet calls of “Master,” had brought her comfort and reassurance during those early days when she constantly worried about her character compatibility.

It wasn’t just Mu Tao relying on her; they had depended on each other.

During those six months apart, her heart felt empty, a void she couldn’t fill.

She had been so oblivious during those years together; how could she not have realized that her feelings for Mu Tao were…different?

As Li Yu thought this, Mu Tao spoke.

“Some things Master remembers clearly, are those things…related to me?” The girl asked, her light brown eyes fixed on Li Yu.

“Yes,” Li Yu replied without hesitation. “Sometimes I feel that those days when we traveled the human realm together were…the best.”

“They were good…” Mu Tao said softly, her gaze distant, as if lost in memories.

“No one in the human realm looked down on me. When I asked for help, they called me Young Immortal or little girl.” Mu Tao said. “And after returning to Mount Chao Yao, Master forbade anyone from bullying me. I could go anywhere without fear of being stopped or ridiculed…”

“Everything was good then. Master was kind to me, Qin Yuan was kind to me, and so was Senior Brother.” Her voice was calm, filled with a simple contentment. “I could visit Qin Yuan at Qianlizhu anytime, and also visit the little black bird and the others at Qingke Hua—things I wouldn’t have dared to do before.”

“I, who had nothing, suddenly had so much, so I thought…life could always be like that.” She lowered her gaze and chuckled softly. “If it weren’t…for the Demon Bone…”

Li Yu wanted to offer comfort, but the words felt hollow.

“But now that I think about it, it’s not so bad now either. Everything is impermanent; I’ve never truly expected anything to last.” Mu Tao’s voice was low. “As long as Master is still by my side, that’s all that matters.”

She clenched the spoon tightly in her hand, as if trying to hold onto something.

Li Yu thought for a moment, then said softly, “I’ll always be with you, but…you can have other people in your life too.”

After a brief silence, Mu Tao put down the spoon and looked out the window.

Her eyes held an unspoken stubbornness.

Li Yu: “Do you remember? I told you that once you could control your power, we could return to the human realm, secretly, without anyone knowing…”

    Mu Tao interrupted, “No.”

Li Yu was taken aback. “Why? You liked it there…”

Mu Tao: “I don’t like it anymore.”

    Li Yu: “But…”

“Why secretly?” Mu Tao asked, as if suddenly agitated. “That place doesn’t welcome me, just like Mount Chao Yao. Once exposed, I’ll never have peace.”

    Li Yu didn’t dare speak.

“When the Demon Bone was sealed, my meridians were blocked, I was powerless, weak, bullied by everyone, only able to cultivate slowly with the manual Master gave me.” Mu Tao’s voice was low. “And when the seal was broken, when I finally had power, before I even used it, everyone wanted me dead…and I had to obey Master, I couldn’t fight back!”

She lowered her gaze, a black flame flickering in her palm. “I watched as Master was injured protecting me, watched as you exhausted your spiritual energy, and I wasn’t even allowed to use my power to protect you!”

“The Demon Realm is good,” Mu Tao said. “At least here, no one wants to kill me because of the Demon Bone.”

“Everyone who wants to kill me has a simple motive.” She chuckled humorlessly. “Either they’re hungry and see me as an easy meal, or they want the Demon Bone, or they’re seeking revenge for someone I killed…”

“They don’t care about the ‘greater good’; they just want to test their strength against mine, a fight to the death—I have no qualms about fighting them, and I don’t have to worry about Master being unhappy.”

A hint of resentment appeared in Mu Tao’s eyes.

“Initially, I also disliked this place. It’s dark, cold, barren, a world where the strong prey on the weak, with no rules, no reason.” Her gaze was distant. “But then I realized…this is the place for me.”

“Because…better places won’t tolerate someone like me. Only in a place where everyone is…tainted…can I avoid being seen as a monster that needs to be eliminated.”

She said that the Demon Realm, a cold, lightless place, was difficult for those accustomed to the human realm to adapt to.

    But she was different.

After overcoming her initial fear, she quickly adapted.

She liked the cold, the darkness, the quiet solitude, the feeling of a clean, untainted world.

The only thing missing…was the moon.

The moon, besides her master, was the purest thing in the Three Realms.

She had thought that if the Demon Realm also had a moon, perhaps, on some nights, she could gaze at it with her master.

Wouldn’t that be like a brief reunion?

Mu Tao fell silent, lost in thought.

Her mind seemed to drift far away, chasing an obsession, to a place no one could reach.

Li Yu looked at Mu Tao, her gaze lowered, the dim room silent, illuminated only by the flickering spiritual fire.

Suddenly, Mu Tao looked up at Li Yu and spoke.

“The human realm is good, but it doesn’t welcome me. If I want to return, I’ll have to bring bloodshed and chaos, only then can I truly be safe…” Her voice was low, a faint flicker of hope in her eyes. “Master…will you…try to…like the Demon Realm for me?”

Mu Tao’s voice was soft, as if she had lowered her defenses, revealing a vulnerable heart, seeking an answer she only dared to dream of.

Li Yu didn’t hesitate. “I will!”

Her voice was also soft, as if afraid of shattering Mu Tao’s fragile hope.

Hearing this, a complex mix of emotions appeared in Mu Tao’s eyes.

Li Yu stared at her, trying to decipher those emotions.

Confusion, joy, astonishment, and a hint of…uncertainty.

  • Devilish Disciple [Transmigration] 66

Chapter 66: What Did “Boundaries” Even Mean?

Mu Tao’s words echoed in her ears, her voice as sweet as always,

Yet her tone carried a hint of petulance, laced with a subtle threat.

Her warm breath brushed against Li Yu’s face, stirring a strange unease within her.

Li Yu had never imagined being threatened so gently by her once-obedient disciple.

She didn’t know how to respond.

Mu Tao: “Master, do you want this disciple to remain obedient?”

    Li Yu: “…Mm.”

Mu Tao: “Then Master should also be…obedient, alright?”

    Li Yu: “…”

Mu Tao gently nuzzled Li Yu’s cheek and whispered, “As long as Master is obedient, this disciple will also heed your words and refrain from…those…absurd actions.”

She emphasized “absurd actions,” a hint of displeasure in her voice.

Her gaze fell on Li Yu’s furrowed brow.

Her master wouldn’t even open her eyes, as if she didn’t want to look at her.

But it didn’t matter; her master couldn’t escape. She had plenty of time to make her master see her, acknowledge her.

Mu Tao released Li Yu, walked around to face her, gently cupped her face, and kissed her forehead.

Li Yu’s eyes snapped open, and she instinctively tried to turn away, but Mu Tao held her in place.

Mu Tao was much stronger; if she wanted to restrain her, she couldn’t escape.

Realizing this, Li Yu sighed and gave up resisting the touch.

After a brief kiss, Mu Tao released Li Yu’s face, took her hand, and knelt down.

“Don’t be unhappy, Master, this disciple knows she was wrong.”

She gently swayed Li Yu’s arm, the silver bells chiming softly.

Hearing the bells, Li Yu looked down at the kneeling Mu Tao.

The girl who had been threatening her just moments ago was now incredibly submissive.

Her seemingly innocent eyes, filled with tears and regret, pleaded for forgiveness—it almost seemed genuine.

In the past, Li Yu would have immediately helped her up.

    But now, she just stared.

For a moment, she felt disoriented, her thoughts scattered by the chiming bells, a ringing in her ears, making her lose her composure.

“I’m sorry, Master.” Mu Tao leaned against Li Yu’s leg, her voice filled with longing. “I just…really, really like Master…”

She said that her master was the best master in the world, and her affection was beyond her control.

She said that she wasn’t a good disciple, that she had caused her master so much trouble, but she wouldn’t do it again.

She looked up at Li Yu and asked cautiously, “Can Master forgive me?”

Li Yu hesitated for a moment, then asked, her voice trembling slightly, “How…how can I forgive you…”

Mu Tao didn’t hesitate. “Make Master happy.”

    Li Yu: “…”

Was that…Mu Tao’s definition of forgiveness?

Mu Tao: “Be happy with me, Master… Even if it’s just pretending…please?”

    Li Yu: “…”

She seemed to have misunderstood again.

Mu Tao: “Don’t let me see that being with me is…difficult for you, it would truly hurt me.”

    Li Yu: “…”

So, forgiveness itself wasn’t important, obedience was.

Li Yu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Mu Tao looked like a puppy afraid of being abandoned, willing to endure anything.

But beneath her seemingly submissive demeanor, every seemingly obedient, even subservient word, carried a strong sense of control.

    This wasn’t a request, nor a negotiation.

—It was a notification, a threat.

Li Yu knew she couldn’t refuse.

After a moment of thought, she closed her eyes and sighed silently.

Li Yu: “I will try, but you must…know your boundaries.”

“I’ll try to understand,” Mu Tao replied, a sweet smile appearing on her face.

Her light brown eyes, like twinkling stars, blinked at Li Yu.

She then asked, “Master, if this were before…what should happen now?”

Li Yu was stunned, then, after a long moment, she looked at Mu Tao’s expectant eyes, her hand instinctively reaching out to gently pat Mu Tao’s head.

Mu Tao smiled, wrapped her arms around Li Yu’s waist, and snuggled closer.

“I knew Master cared about me the most,” she said happily, closing her eyes against Li Yu’s leg.

Either truly sleepy or simply relishing this moment of intimacy.

The girl nestled against Li Yu, her breathing slowing, and soon she was asleep.

Li Yu looked down at her, feeling the weight and warmth against her leg, her own chaotic thoughts calming along with Mu Tao’s steady breathing.

    Time passed quickly.

Mu Tao slept soundly, her arms still wrapped around Li Yu’s waist.

The room darkened, the green spiritual fire still flickering.

Li Yu’s leg started to feel numb.

But Mu Tao, a faint smile on her lips, seemed to be having a pleasant dream.

She was worried about Mu Tao being uncomfortable but didn’t want to wake her.

The sleeping Mu Tao resembled her younger self even more, quiet and well-behaved, seemingly harmless.

Li Yu knew that her little disciple had grown up, just like the little protagonist in the original story, becoming a dangerous wolf.

But even this grown-up wolf would still, at times, curl up beside her like before, showing her most vulnerable side.

She remained still, afraid of disturbing Mu Tao’s sleep, just gazing at her peaceful face, still carrying a hint of childish innocence.

She didn’t know how much time had passed.

The room was quiet, so quiet she could hear every breath Mu Tao took.

Until Mu Tao slowly opened her eyes, a sleepy look in them.

A brief exchange of glances, and a sense of contentment filled Mu Tao’s eyes.

She sat up, rubbing her eyes, relieved to see the same gentleness in her master’s gaze.

It was late, and the leftover food on the table had long since gone cold.

As Li Yu looked away, Mu Tao stood up unsteadily.

Her legs were numb from kneeling for so long; she swayed slightly.

Instinctively, Li Yu reached out to steady her, as if everything had returned to normal, a smile appearing on her face.

Mu Tao leaned against Li Yu for a moment, waiting for the numbness to subside, then smiled and started clearing the table.

The atmosphere in the room was less tense now. As Mu Tao cleared the table, she mentioned having a short, pleasant dream—a kind of dream she hadn’t had in a long time.

Li Yu felt a pang of sympathy.

For Mu Tao now, even a pleasant dream was a rare and precious thing.

She asked softly, “What did you dream about?”

“I dreamt it was snowing, and I couldn’t transform yet, so I was rolling around in the snow.” Mu Tao smiled at Li Yu. “Master picked me up, rubbed my ears, and said I was like a little stove, very warm.”

Such a simple dream, such simple words, yet they made the little girl so happy.

Li Yu watched as Mu Tao packed the dishes, seemingly about to leave, a reluctance she didn’t dare express.

She was afraid that if she did, Mu Tao would stay and…

She watched as Mu Tao reached the door, then couldn’t help but speak.

As if she had eyes on the back of her head, Mu Tao turned around expectantly. “Is there anything else, Master?”

Li Yu blurted out nervously, “How long…how long was I unconscious?”

Mu Tao: “About half a month.”

    Li Yu frowned.

    Half a month again?

She hadn’t realized until now, but knowing she had been unconscious for so long made her worry.

This curse was potent; if it was transferred to Mu Tao, even the Demon Realm wouldn’t be safe.

And what about Mount Chao Yao? Half a month had passed; what was happening there?

    Was Si Qinglan alright…?

Li Yu hesitated, then asked, “Mu Tao, have you heard anything from Mount Chao Yao these past two weeks?”

As she asked, she noticed a flicker of displeasure in Mu Tao’s eyes, and her heart sank.

“Are you…still thinking about that place, Master?”

    “…”

“Whether the human realm, Mount Chao Yao, or even Lingyao Revered One, whom you’ve known for millennia, none of them showed you any respect.” Mu Tao frowned. “You finally left that place, why are you still so attached to it?”

“Mu Tao, Weisheng Xuanzhu is the black-robed figure! He has the Upper Spirit Lamp!” Li Yu said seriously. “He wants to revive the Heavenly Demon and has been plotting for a long time. I’m afraid something might happen…”

“Can you protect the entire human realm alone, Master?” Mu Tao retorted, her voice laced with displeasure. “You were severely injured because of the Upper Spirit Lamp, what have those people, who only know how to blame you, been doing?”

Her voice was filled with anger. “They don’t even dare take charge of the Upper Spirit Lamp, just demanding that you open the Heavenly Gate!”

“So what if the Heavenly Demon is revived? It’s just those incompetent fools reaping what they sowed!” Mu Tao sneered. “The chaos in the human realm can’t reach the Demon Realm. Those self-righteous immortal sects…it’s time they shed some blood for the human realm.”

Her eyes turned cold. “They should experience the burdens you carried, the pain you endured, then perhaps they’ll understand who has been protecting them all these years!”

Li Yu looked at Mu Tao, surprised by her intense reaction, her words filled with resentment, as if she could revive the Heavenly Demon herself.

Seemingly aware of Li Yu’s surprise, Mu Tao took a deep breath, calmed herself down, lowered her gaze, and apologized reluctantly. “This disciple spoke out of turn, please forgive me, Master…”

Out of turn? Not at all!

If these words were meant for the original owner, perhaps it would be considered disrespectful.

But for her, Li Yu, they were perfectly reasonable, no need for apologies.

She had also been annoyed by those opportunistic immortals when reading the novel, silently agreeing with the readers who criticized them.

Li Yu: “You didn’t say anything wrong, there’s no need to apologize.”

Mu Tao looked up, her eyes shining.

“I’m in a difficult position now. Even if you let me return, I can’t do much alone.” Li Yu sighed softly. “But Qingxuan Revered One doesn’t know the black-robed figure’s true identity. She helped me escape, she’s facing Weisheng Xuanzhu alone… I owe her too much, I can ignore others, but not her.”

    Mu Tao: “…”

The atmosphere in the room shifted again, a strange tension.

Li Yu thought that in the past, she would have heard the system’s notification about Mu Tao’s increasing blackening value.

The only reason she didn’t hear it now was because it had reached its limit.

    Silence fell.

    Li Yu didn’t dare speak.

The silence stretched on, until Mu Tao finally said softly, “I don’t care about Mount Chao Yao, and I can’t answer your questions…but since you’re worried, I’ll send someone to inquire.”

    “…Thank you.”

“There’s no need to thank me, Master, it’s my duty to obey you.” Mu Tao turned and left.

Her steps were heavier than usual, her mood clearly sour.

Li Yu instinctively wanted to follow her to the door, but the sound of the closing door stopped her.

She looked at the faint barrier and sighed deeply.

Mu Tao didn’t return that night.

Li Yu sat by the window for a while, then, seeing nothing but darkness outside, returned to bed.

Although having just woken up, she was still weak. The moment she lay down, she drifted off to sleep, lulled by the flickering green flames.

On her first night reunited with Mu Tao, she had a dream.

In her dream, it was snowing, and a “little snowman” with pointy ears was kneeling in the snow.

She called out, ordering the snowman to come inside, but received no response.

Worried, she walked over and tried to pick up the snowman.

The snowman suddenly jumped up, tackling her to the ground, its snow-covered head shaking like a rattle.

    Snow fell on her.

“I scared Master!” the young girl said with a grin, her hair dusted with snow.

A large, red tail swayed behind her, a bright splash of color against the white landscape.

The tail brushed against her hand, and she couldn’t resist touching it.

The young girl smiled, leaned closer, and whispered, “Does Master like it?”

Then, before she could answer, the girl straddled her, playfully brushing her tail against her face.

Something felt…off, but before she could process it, the girl leaned down, as if tasting a sweet treat.

Her clothes were removed, and she was pressed into the snow.

Neither resisting nor responding, just…letting it happen.

The girl’s hair fell on her face, tickling her.

    Tickling her…?

Li Yu’s eyes fluttered open, and she saw a flash of red in the darkness.

She focused and saw Mu Tao holding a strand of her hair, tied with a red string, her big eyes staring at her intently, playfully brushing the strand against her face.

The girl smiled, revealing her small canine teeth, and greeted her sweetly.

    Mu Tao: “Good morning, Master!”

The room was dim, the green spiritual fire flickering, the world outside still dark.

But the young girl before her was a beacon of light in the darkness.

Realizing she was awake, Li Yu breathed a sigh of relief.

    What a strange dream…

As Li Yu was still dazed, the soft strand of hair brushed against her face again.

    It tickled.

Li Yu frowned slightly and gently grasped Mu Tao’s wrist.

Mu Tao suddenly leaned down and kissed her forehead.

Before Li Yu could react, Mu Tao smiled and said, “I’ve prepared breakfast for Master!”

Li Yu was speechless for a moment, then looked at the stone table across the room.

A wooden food box sat on the table.

Mu Tao put down the strand of hair, helped Li Yu sit up, and gently combed her messy hair.

Having just woken up, Li Yu was only wearing her thin undergarments. She instinctively tried to use a spell to change her clothes, but realized she couldn’t summon any spiritual energy.

Her hand froze awkwardly in midair.

Mu Tao smiled, picked up Li Yu’s robes from the floor with a flick of her wrist, and winked at her.

Li Yu reached for them, but Mu Tao pulled them back, smiling, and then, like a maid, started dressing her.

Li Yu felt this was strange, but Mu Tao seemed determined to dress her personally.

She blushed, letting Mu Tao’s hands wander over her body.

And after the robes, came the socks and shoes.

As Mu Tao held her ankle, Li Yu’s mind went blank.

Then, Mu Tao brought a basin of water, seemingly conjured from thin air, and placed it on the stand beside the bed.

She warmed the water slightly with a spell and then took Li Yu’s hands, placing them in the basin.

    “I can do it myself…”

“Is this disciple not serving you well, Master?” Mu Tao pouted, a hurt look on her face.

Li Yu fell silent, giving up on resisting, letting Mu Tao continue “serving” her.

“These small tasks, Master used to do them effortlessly with a flick of your fingers.” Mu Tao’s smile returned. “Now, without your spiritual energy, even daily tasks are difficult. Master isn’t used to this; it’s only natural for this disciple to attend to you.”

    “…”

“I’ve locked Master’s meridians, and also…Master’s spatial pouch.” Mu Tao played with Li Yu’s fingers in the water, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “You can’t access your clothes. Even if you could clean them with a spell, you can’t just wear the same plain robes every day.”

She took Li Yu’s hands out of the water. “I’ve already had many clothes made for Master, according to your measurements. I brought them today. If Master isn’t busy, you can try them on later.”

    “You even know my…measurements?”

“Mm!” Mu Tao replied casually, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

She held Li Yu’s hands, her fingers playfully toying with the Harmony Bells on her wrist.

Every time she touched the bells, Li Yu’s heart would skip a beat.

She had never found the chiming so unnerving before.

    “Let’s eat first…”

Li Yu nervously pulled her hands back and walked towards the table.

But before she could even sit down, Mu Tao appeared beside her, opening the food box with a smile.

Steaming sweet porridge and crispy-looking pastries.

Li Yu remembered these pastries; Mu Tao had learned how to make them from an innkeeper on their way back from the City of the Undying, and she had complimented them then.

Mu Tao: “Master, try it, does it still taste the same?”

Li Yu took a bite; the familiar, subtly sweet taste hadn’t changed.

She nodded, and saw Mu Tao looking at her expectantly, her head tilted slightly.

Mu Tao: “Isn’t Master going to reward this disciple?”

    Li Yu was confused.

Mu Tao cupped her face in her hands, her elbows on the table, leaning forward, her eyes sparkling with amusement, and opened her mouth slightly, making a soft “ah” sound.

Li Yu instinctively reached for another pastry, but Mu Tao shook her head and made the “ah” sound again, like a petulant child.

Li Yu, exasperated, brought the half-eaten pastry to Mu Tao’s lips.

Mu Tao’s eyes crinkled into crescent moons, her smile bright.

She leaned forward, bypassing the pastry, and gently nibbled on Li Yu’s finger.

    Li Yu’s heart pounded.

Mu Tao released her finger and smiled. “Sweet.”

“…If you don’t want to eat it, then don’t.”

    “I do!”

Mu Tao grabbed Li Yu’s hand as she tried to pull away.

She took the pastry, along with Li Yu’s finger, and savored the sweetness.

The warm, lingering touch made Li Yu’s cheeks burn.

Li Yu was certain that the word “boundaries” didn’t exist in Mu Tao’s vocabulary.

  • Devilish Disciple [Transmigration] 65

Chapter 65: Was This Also Absurd?

The deathly silence in the room stretched on.

Li Yu huddled in the corner, her hair disheveled, her cheeks burning, silently straightening her clothes.

Her mind was blank, her thoughts sluggish, her actions purely instinctive.

Only after she was properly dressed did she realize that even simple tasks like dressing and fixing her hair required only a simple spell, and her forgetting that must have looked incredibly foolish.

But then she thought, with the curse poison still in her body, even simple spells caused discomfort, best avoided if possible.

    As for Mu Tao…

Li Yu could feel her intense gaze, unwavering.

But she didn’t dare meet her eyes.

She couldn’t explain why, perhaps afraid of being overwhelmed, perhaps afraid of seeing the disappointment in Mu Tao’s eyes.

Mu Tao must think she was angry.

Perhaps she had scared Mu Tao, or perhaps…hurt her.

In the oppressive silence, she lost track of time.

It felt like both a fleeting moment and an eternity as she slowly processed what was happening.

Her seemingly obedient and well-behaved little disciple had harbored these unusual desires for a long time.

    Was she afraid, repulsed?

She thought she would be, but now, she realized she wasn’t as resistant as she had imagined.

She wasn’t entirely against Mu Tao crossing that line, just…surprised, unsure how to react, how to accept it.

For a moment there, during that unexpected intimacy, she had almost…surrendered.

She just needed time, time to process everything…

If it weren’t for the curse…

…she wouldn’t have said those hurtful words.

She hadn’t wanted to, but she couldn’t explain their current situation to Mu Tao.

It seemed that any hint of affection from her was interpreted by Mu Tao as…permission.

Besides forcefully stopping her, besides emphasizing their precarious master-disciple dynamic, she couldn’t think of any other way to make Mu Tao understand.

For now, she could only delay, searching for a way to remove the curse or subtly inform Mu Tao about it.

    Li Yu sighed softly.

The sound broke the silence in the room.

Li Yu’s gaze was lowered, but she saw a flash of red from the corner of her eye as Mu Tao approached.

She almost stopped breathing, instinctively wanting to move away, but her body froze.

This time, Mu Tao didn’t try anything, just sat beside her and gently started combing her tangled hair.

After a moment of hesitation, Li Yu didn’t pull away, just looked away, letting Mu Tao’s fingers play with her hair.

Mu Tao’s touch was incredibly gentle, as if afraid of hurting her.

Her gaze softened, her mind drifting as the soft strands of hair slid through her fingers.

She carefully combed Li Yu’s hair, a hint of reluctance as she tied it back with a ribbon.

As if once this task was done, she would have no further excuse to be so close.

They shouldn’t be so silent, she thought.

    Had she done something wrong?

She had done something her master wouldn’t like, crossed a line no disciple should cross.

But even if she stopped now, could they ever go back to how things were before?

    She didn’t understand.

“Master must be hungry,” Mu Tao suddenly whispered, her voice trembling slightly.

She stood up but didn’t leave, seemingly waiting for a response.

Li Yu nervously clutched her robes, her heart pounding, then finally managed a soft “Mm.”

Mu Tao’s nose twitched, and she walked to the door, pausing just before leaving.

“This disciple will prepare some food for Master,” she said in a low voice, then left, closing the door silently behind her.

As Mu Tao left, Li Yu saw a faint barrier appear outside the door.

Her insecure little disciple still needed to lock her in to feel safe.

Li Yu lowered her gaze, hugging her knees, her back against the cold stone wall, her mind a whirlwind of chaotic thoughts.

The spiritual fire flickered, casting dancing green shadows, as she pondered her situation.

Finally, she felt a glimmer of hope.

Despite the curse, Mu Tao was still listening to her, not completely lost in her obsession like in the original story.

Thankfully, the curse was dormant when she wasn’t using spiritual energy.

She remembered the excruciating pain from last time and had expected far greater damage, but she seemed mostly fine now.

Either the curse wasn’t that potent, or the person who cast it still had some…compassion.

Regardless, their situation had changed; she needed to adapt.

Li Yu composed herself, stood up, and walked to the window, opening it.

A few demon maids passed by outside, seemingly not noticing her.

She looked out at the dim sky through the thin spiritual barrier.

It wasn’t night, not the complete darkness of night.

But the sky was still dim,

Like a sudden storm, the clouds obscuring the sun.

This was the Demon Realm, a truly lightless place.

It was said to be as cold as a snowy winter in the human realm.

But she didn’t feel any chill; the barrier seemed to be blocking not just her escape, but also the cold.

The human realm had four seasons, but the Demon Realm didn’t.

The demons, accustomed to this constant cold, could no longer tolerate the human realm’s summer and autumn.

Perhaps because of the darkness and the cold, the plants here were strange and distorted.

The dark trees, with their sparse, blue-tinged leaves and gnarled branches, flickered with a faint, dark light.

Even the flowers were unlike those in the human realm.

Regardless of their color, they all glowed faintly, as if even plants needed spiritual energy to survive here.

Any life that could thrive in this place must be incredibly resilient, Li Yu thought.

    And Mu Tao…

Having reached such a high position in just six months, how resilient was she, what hardships had she endured?

She still wanted to protect Mu Tao, care for her, treat her well, as she had before.

But many things had changed silently.

Abandoning Mu Tao at the entrance to the Demon Realm had hurt her deeply.

She had thought she could make amends, but fate, it seemed, had other plans—the author, the garbage system, even her seemingly reasonable colleague, they all pushed her towards this predicament.

Now, still constrained, how could she heal Mu Tao’s wounds?

Li Yu couldn’t find an answer, so she just sat down, resting her chin on her hand, and looked out the window.

She didn’t know how long she had been unconscious, nor what was happening on Mount Chao Yao.

Si Qinglan, having awakened and released her, would have to face Weisheng Xuanzhu alone.

She had left in such a hurry, so many things forgotten, urged on by Si Qinglan.

She hadn’t even told Si Qinglan about Weisheng Xuanzhu’s true identity.

She wondered how Si Qinglan was doing, whether Weisheng Xuanzhu was making things difficult for her.

Mu Tao’s blackening value always increased whenever Si Qinglan visited Chaoxi Pond.

With her changed personality, would Mu Tao even be willing to inquire about Si Qinglan…?

As she was lost in thought, she saw the girl in red, carrying a food box, hurrying towards her.

Seeing her by the window, a smile appeared in the girl’s eyes.

She entered the room, her steps quick, and placed the food box on the black stone table.

    The door closed behind her.

As usual, Mu Tao took out the dishes and placed them on the table.

She looked up at Li Yu tentatively. “Master, dinner is ready.”

Her voice was soft, a hint of apprehension in it.

After what happened earlier, the atmosphere in the room was slightly tense.

Li Yu took a deep breath and sat down at the table.

Mu Tao’s eyes lit up, and she placed the bowls and chopsticks before Li Yu.

Looking at the familiar dishes, a familiar ache arose within Li Yu.

“I vaguely remember…Master didn’t particularly like these dishes.” Mu Tao sat down, picked up her chopsticks, and said softly, “The Demon Realm is barren, and although the Demon Lord’s palace has ingredients from the human realm, the selection is limited…so I could only make these…”

She lowered her gaze. “It’s been a long time since I cooked these; I hope they’re still to Master’s liking.”

It had been a long time since Li Yu had tasted Mu Tao’s cooking.

She had never found it displeasing, even that bland, slightly fishy grilled fish in the snowy wilderness was now a fond memory.

Li Yu picked up her chopsticks and started eating silently.

The taste was just as she remembered.

For a moment, it was as if they were back at Chaoxi Pond, those peaceful days of quiet companionship.

She fought back tears and whispered, “It has been a while, but the taste is still the same.”

Mu Tao: “Does Master still like it?”

    Li Yu: “Mm.”

Mu Tao: “Has the food at Qianlizhu improved?”

    Li Yu: “No.”

Mu Tao: “Master must have suffered.”

    Li Yu: “…”

    What suffering had she endured?

After returning to Mount Chao Yao, besides cultivating and recuperating, she had done nothing.

The food at Qianlizhu wasn’t as good as Mu Tao’s, but it was just…bland, not inedible.

She hadn’t suffered; Mu Tao was the one who had suffered.

She couldn’t bear to think about what Mu Tao had endured during these past six months, yet Mu Tao never mentioned it, as if nothing had happened, as if all those hardships paled in comparison to not having a good meal.

The more Mu Tao acted like this, the more Li Yu’s heart ached.

She looked at Mu Tao, wanting to say something, then just sighed softly and lowered her gaze. “I didn’t suffer…”

Mu Tao nodded and silently ate her rice.

A moment later, some food was placed in her bowl.

    She paused, then accepted it.

More and more food appeared in her bowl, and she bit her lip, her eyes reddening slightly.

Li Yu: “Don’t just eat rice.”

    Mu Tao: “Mm.”

A brief exchange, then silence again.

Mu Tao finished her meal, tears in her eyes, a mix of happiness and bitterness in her heart.

She couldn’t believe that her master, who treated her so well, truly only saw her as a disciple.

    She couldn’t accept it.

After putting down her chopsticks, she hesitated, unsure whether to leave or find an excuse to stay.

Li Yu asked softly, “Do you want to stay and talk?”

    “Yes!” Mu Tao replied instantly.

Tears, which she had just wiped away, started falling again.

She thought she had so much to say, but now, she didn’t know where to begin.

    Thankfully, Li Yu spoke again.

Looking at Mu Tao with sympathy, she said, “You must have suffered a lot these past six months.”

Mu Tao: “Seeing Master again makes it all worthwhile.”

    Li Yu: “…”

Mu Tao: “Master…won’t leave again, right?”

    Li Yu: “I won’t leave.”

Mu Tao looked into Li Yu’s eyes, then asked after a long moment, “Now that Master knows…my feelings…can we…still be the same as before?”

    Li Yu: “If you’re willing, I can…”

Mu Tao interrupted. “What if I’m not willing?”

    Li Yu: “…”

Mu Tao: “In Master’s heart, am I…destined to be just your disciple?”

    Li Yu: “…”

Mu Tao: “You’re willing to give me such an important place in your life, why can’t you…let me be even closer?”

    Li Yu: “…”

“I can cook for Master forever, I can protect Master forever.” Mu Tao’s voice was soft, her eyes filled with a near-desperate longing. “Anything Master desires, as long as the Demon Realm has it, I can give it to you. And if it’s not here, I can find it for you in the human realm!”

    She said, she wasn’t willing.

She didn’t want things to go back to how they were.

She no longer wanted to be the one being cared for, protected, loved, seemingly carefree and happy, yet ultimately powerless.

She hated her former self, the one who was always so easily satisfied just by being near her master.

    That self was always passive.

Ostracized, mocked, bullied, she could only swallow her humiliation.

When those who protected her were hurt, she could only watch helplessly.

It hadn’t been so bad; she had believed things would get better, especially after her master finally started caring for her.

She could eat with her master every day, she had her own cultivation manual, she went to the human realm with her master, and her master finally started teaching her spells.

But she was still too passive…

For two hundred years, whether bullied or loved, she had only passively accepted everything.

She always felt insecure, the underlying anxiety never truly disappearing, no matter how happy she seemed on the surface.

She knew how long and unpredictable life could be.

And in this long life, everything could change.

If her master wanted to leave, just like how she had suddenly decided to be kind to her, she wouldn’t need her permission—she couldn’t stop her, couldn’t make her stay.

So when that moment arrived, watching her master’s retreating figure disappear into the darkness, her heart felt empty, as if she had never possessed anything.

She stood alone in the darkness.

Only a faint blue light lingered beside her.

She stood beneath the light, her heart numb, yet still hoping her master would return.

But it was wishful thinking; she was deceiving herself.

She said she waited there for a long time.

    Until the light finally faded.

Her world seemed to crumble around her.

Crumbling into an endless darkness, without a single spark of light.

    But she survived.

From that moment on, she vowed to become so strong that she could hold onto everything she desired.

Then, she would never have to fear being abandoned again.

    “Mu Tao…”

“Master, I wish…you were still the master I respected. I don’t want to…disobey you.” Mu Tao’s eyes were red as she asked softly, “Can’t you…be like before, fulfilling all my wishes, as much as possible?”

    “…”

Li Yu’s silence extinguished the last flicker of hope in Mu Tao’s eyes.

Mu Tao lowered her gaze and chuckled humorlessly, as if suddenly seeing clearly.

“It’s fine,” she said faintly, a slight smile on her lips. “One day…Master will change your mind.”

A black flame flickered at her fingertip and then, without warning, flew into Li Yu’s forehead.

Li Yu frowned, a momentary discomfort, then nothing.

“What did you do to me?”

“Just…sealed your meridians.” Mu Tao’s eyes, though filled with tears, held a bright, innocent smile, just like before. “Now…Master can’t leave this place.”

Li Yu couldn’t help but feel a mix of amusement and exasperation.

Although seemingly cruel, it didn’t really matter to her.

With the curse poison already in her body, this additional seal, blocking her meridians, actually prevented the minor backlash from casual spellcasting.

“From now on, Master will belong only to me,” Mu Tao said, standing up and walking behind Li Yu, gently caressing her face. “How wonderful, no one else can share you with me, not even for a moment.”

Li Yu instinctively flinched from her touch.

Mu Tao looked down at her flushed ear, her smile widening.

She playfully traced the curve of Li Yu’s ear with her fingertip.

Li Yu’s heart raced, and she took a deep breath, closing her eyes, her brow furrowed.

“I often felt that Chaoxi Pond wasn’t secluded enough, supposedly our residence, yet people could come and go as they pleased.” There was a hint of annoyance in Mu Tao’s voice, but she quickly corrected herself. “From now on, Master will live here, undisturbed.”

“There’s a barrier outside, ordinary people can’t see inside, and sounds can’t travel out…” She smiled and put her hands behind her back. “So, only I can see Master.”

Li Yu didn’t dare respond, just squeezed her eyes shut tighter.

Mu Tao clearly didn’t like her silence, her tone turning slightly sullen. “Master is now…like how you were before—I don’t like this Master.”

…Didn’t she just say she did?

“But it’s fine, Master has just woken up, you must be feeling…restless.”

    …Here we go again.

“I’ll come and keep Master company every day, I’ll cook for you, just like before.” Mu Tao leaned closer to Li Yu’s ear and whispered, “Do you…prefer the old me? Although…I can’t go back, but I’ll try…to be more like her.”

Her words carried a forced cheerfulness, a hint of underlying sadness. “Please…cooperate, Master. If I’m not happy, I…I can’t keep pretending.”

She gently kissed Li Yu’s flushed ear.

Li Yu flinched, trying to pull away, but a strong arm wrapped around her waist, holding her in place.

She swallowed nervously and said, trying to sound firm, “Mu Tao, have you forgotten what I just said…?”

    Mu Tao frowned slightly. “No.”

    “Then let go…”

“Is this also…absurd?” Mu Tao asked, pressing her cheek against Li Yu’s, a hurt look in her eyes. “Master’s standards are so high; this disciple is at a loss.”

“…” Li Yu felt a wave of helplessness wash over her.

“I’ve always obeyed Master. You raised me, protected me, I should listen to you.” Mu Tao blinked innocently, a hint of confusion in her voice. “But now, Master, you depend on me. Isn’t it only natural that you…listen to me sometimes?”

Natural? This was a complete role reversal!

The now dominant disciple continued, her voice filled with mock grievance. “Earlier, Master was lying in bed, unable to move, and this disciple, unable to control herself, acted…inappropriately—If Master finds it inappropriate, I accept the blame.”

“But now, I’m not doing anything like that, just…wanting to be closer to Master…” She tightened her embrace.

After a moment of silence, she asked, her tone slightly displeased, “If this is also absurd, aren’t you worried that this disciple will be unhappy?”

    “…”

    “If I’m unhappy…I might…stop being so obedient.”

  • Devilish Disciple [Transmigration] 64

Chapter 64: Did She Have to Obey Her Master?

    No! What was happening?!

    What did she mean by…

    finally having her too?

    Li Yu’s mind went blank.

She stared at Mu Tao’s tear-filled eyes, her mouth slightly open.

Just like before, her little disciple was before her, her eyes red, crying silently.

    But this time…it was different.

She saw a possessiveness in those light brown eyes, a possessiveness that seemed to have been suppressed for a long time.

Li Yu’s heart pounded in her chest.

Having done everything the male protagonist was supposed to do, and shouldn’t have done, his storyline had inadvertently become hers.

Perhaps, from the moment she tied the Harmony Bells on Mu Tao, things were destined to change.

She had been so oblivious, simply because they were both women, so she had never considered this possibility.

But for Mu Tao, the person who treated her best, and hurt her most, was Li Yu.

Although she couldn’t believe it, couldn’t face it, what she was experiencing now was the twisted, possessive love of the protagonist in the latter half of the original story…

When the Harmony Bells were severed, the little protagonist in the novel thought—

    Everyone has their own Dao.

And Senior Brother’s Dao was diametrically opposed to her only path to survival.

If she wanted to be with him, she would have to destroy his Dao.

Yes, she had never been truly obedient and well-behaved.

It was all an act, all her grievances, resentment, and hatred hidden deep within her heart, only showing her most vulnerable side to gain sympathy.

It was the same in the novel and now.

Perhaps Mu Tao was indeed innocent, but her heart was never pure.

That initial 30% blackening value was the darkness within her.

And when her pretense no longer garnered sympathy or affection, she discarded the act, allowing her suppressed desires to consume her.

Li Yu even suspected that Mu Tao rushing to Mount Chao Yao wasn’t entirely about saving her.

It was more about reclaiming what she believed belonged to her—taking something you desired didn’t require consent.

So now, what was Mu Tao planning to do?

Would she, like in the novel, destroy Li Yu’s “Dao” and then toy with her mercilessly?

    No, that was terrifying!

She didn’t have a “Dao,” nor any grand sense of duty towards the world.

She was just an ordinary person in a fragile, repeatedly patched-up body, a few more bumps and bruises away from completely falling apart.

Besides severing the Harmony Bells and abandoning Mu Tao, she hadn’t done anything wrong, treating Mu Tao far better than the male protagonist in the original story.

They were both just trying to survive; couldn’t the punishment for her mistake be a little less severe?

    This was negotiable, right?

Perhaps she could calm Mu Tao down first and discuss this rationally.

    Li Yu: “M, Mu Tao…”

Mu Tao: “Master won’t leave me again, right?”

Li Yu hesitated, then, playing along, replied softly, “…Right.”

That brief hesitation didn’t escape Mu Tao’s notice.

Mu Tao tightened her grip on Li Yu’s wrist, a flicker of displeasure in her eyes, quickly masked by a seemingly innocent expression.

Li Yu’s wrist ached, and she instinctively tried to pull away, but afraid of angering Mu Tao, she froze.

“Master will never leave me again,” Mu Tao whispered, her words both a plea and a command.

“I won’t leave,” Li Yu replied, taking a deep breath and trying to sit up.

Mu Tao frowned, and a black flame flickered in her palm, a restrictive spell falling upon Li Yu.

Li Yu felt a jolt, as if electrocuted, her strength vanishing as she fell back onto the bed, unable to move.

    “Mu Tao, you…”

“Master is so good at pleasing me, saying exactly what I want to hear.” Mu Tao said, picking up the pearl with a flicker of dark red light and putting it into her spatial pouch. “But…it’s hard to tell…how much of it is true.”

“I would never lie to you…”

“Master, I trusted you completely, without reservation, and yet you still abandoned me, didn’t you?” Mu Tao chuckled humorlessly. “I’ve always wanted to ask…why did you leave me and return to Mount Chao Yao alone?”

“Mu Tao, it’s difficult to explain, but I truly had no choice…” Li Yu said urgently. “If I had, I wouldn’t have left you there alone. Every promise I made was sincere.”

    Li Yu paused.

She swore these words were true, but why did they sound so…wrong?

It sounded like a cheater’s desperate excuses after being caught.

“No choice? How much of a choice did you not have?” Mu Tao chuckled softly, but there was no mirth in her red-rimmed eyes. “You still brought me away from Mount Chao Yao, all the way to the entrance to the Demon Realm.”

“If you had wanted to, you could have continued with me. Once inside the Demon Realm, no one could have separated us.” The flickering spiritual fire illuminated the shifting emotions in Mu Tao’s light brown eyes. “But you abandoned me, enduring the backlash of the Harmony Bells, turning your back on me without a second thought!”

Mu Tao’s voice rose with increasing agitation, a dark red glint appearing in her eyes.

Seemingly realizing this, she took a deep breath, trying to calm herself.

She stood up, sat on the edge of the bed, leaned closer, and looked down at Li Yu, her expression pained. “What is it, Master, that’s so important to you? So important that you can break all your promises, abandon the person you swore to protect?”

Li Yu opened her mouth, wanting to explain, but she couldn’t find a suitable excuse.

She couldn’t tell Mu Tao that she had been forced, could she?

    Mu Tao wouldn’t understand.

But deflecting the blame was better than accepting it.

Whether they believed it or not was their problem; telling the truth was her responsibility.

But she didn’t know if the system would mute her…

If she avoided mentioning the system directly, just hinted at it, would that work?

Li Yu said tentatively, “Mu Tao, what if I said…there was something, invisible, intangible, undetectable even with spiritual energy, but it was in my mind, telling me I had to leave you…”

    【Warning! Warning!】

【The system has detected the host’s attempt to reveal its existence. This action could lead to the collapse of the world. The system has muted the host’s speech and disabled lip movement.】

    Li Yu: “…”

Although she had anticipated this, she really wanted to strangle the system.

Mu Tao: “Why did you stop talking, Master?”

Li Yu: “Mu Tao…please release this spell, so we can talk properly.”

“Is there something you can’t say…like this?” Mu Tao tilted her head, an innocent look in her almond-shaped eyes.

She reached out and gently caressed Li Yu’s flushed face.

Her cool fingertips traced Li Yu’s brow, her eyelashes, her cheekbones, the bridge of her nose, finally resting gently on her soft lips.

“Actually, the reason you abandoned me…isn’t that important anymore… Some things, it’s better to know, but if not, it’s also fine. If you don’t want to tell me, you can keep it a secret forever. After all—I also have a secret I’ve been keeping from you.”

Mu Tao smiled faintly, seemingly enjoying Li Yu’s restrained, slightly embarrassed expression.

“Perhaps one day, you’ll be willing to tell me.” She said earnestly, “Secrets aren’t always permanent, just like me, I’m not planning on keeping this secret any longer.”

    “…”

“My secret…it’s actually quite simple.” Mu Tao blinked, her hand sliding down from her lips, past her flushed ear, and resting on her neck.

She leaned closer to Li Yu’s ear and whispered, “Last winter, when the first snow fell, I…kissed you.”

Her warm breath tickled Li Yu’s ear, her soft lips brushing against it.

Li Yu’s heart skipped a beat.

    She had kissed her…?

Last winter, when the first snow fell—when she gave her the ice flower?

    That early…?

Now that she thought about it, Mu Tao had seemed a bit…distracted that day, but she couldn’t remember clearly.

Li Yu felt a pang of regret—she should have realized.

Mu Tao’s dependence on her was far stronger than in the original story.

And every increase in her blackening value was a reflection of her growing desires.

She had always known, perhaps even everyone else had known, that Mu Tao was completely devoted to her, but she had never dared to consider this possibility.

Now, a brief separation had shattered the illusion of a normal master-disciple relationship…

As Li Yu was lost in thought, Mu Tao kicked off her shoes, climbed onto the bed, wrapped her arms around Li Yu, and lay down beside her.

Like a puppy finding its nest, she closed her eyes and nuzzled against Li Yu’s face.

Li Yu swallowed nervously, her mind reeling.

After a moment of silence, Mu Tao muttered softly, “I want Master…to belong to me, only to me.”

Her voice was so soft it was almost inaudible.

But each word resonated deeply within Li Yu’s heart.

She said that in the past, she wouldn’t have dared to even dream of this.

But things were different now; many people feared her. A single word, a gesture, and people would offer her anything she wanted.

Her master hadn’t lied; she could now obtain everything she desired.

“I’ve waited for this day…for so long.” Mu Tao said. “I worked so hard to reach this position, just waiting for my injuries to heal, so I could bring Master back… But Master, why were you almost…married to someone else?”

    “I…”

Mu Tao interrupted, whispering in her ear, “I know, I know. You escaped from Mount Chao Yao; you must have been unwilling—but when I first heard the news, I was so…so upset…”

“I thought, even if it’s a trap, or even if you willingly agreed, I would still come and take you back!” Mu Tao’s voice was filled with possessiveness. “I thought you might be angry, but compared to your anger, I was more afraid of…never being with you again…”

She tightened her embrace, as if wanting to merge with Li Yu, to never be separated again.

    “Mu Tao, listen to me…”

“Mm,” Mu Tao replied softly, her cheek pressing against Li Yu’s.

“I only agreed to marry Weisheng Xuanzhu because he was controlling me. He put me into a deep sleep and used my body to set a trap for you!” Li Yu said urgently. “He is the black-robed figure, I saw him use the power of the stars…”

“Mm,” Mu Tao replied again, her voice soft, almost dreamy.

“He wants to revive the Heavenly Demon, you’re the perfect vessel, he…”

“Master is worried about me,” Mu Tao opened her eyes, a flicker of joy in them.

“…Mm,” Li Yu replied softly, then, just as she was about to continue, Mu Tao buried her face in the crook of her neck.

The girl’s warm breath on her neck made Li Yu’s mind go blank.

She felt a slender hand sliding down her arm, resting on her waist.

The delicate fingers traced circles on her thin robes.

Li Yu snapped back to reality, a wave of panic washing over her. “Mu Tao! What are you doing?!”

“…” Mu Tao frowned, a flicker of hesitation in her eyes, her hand pausing momentarily.

    “You can’t…you can’t do this…”

    “…”

Mu Tao didn’t respond, her face still buried against Li Yu’s neck.

Li Yu took a deep breath and tried to circulate her spiritual energy, to break free from the spell, but a sharp pain in her chest stopped her.

Breaking Mu Tao’s spell required too much energy.

Weakened by the curse, she couldn’t do it.

She had to reason with her—

“Mu Tao, listen to me, Weisheng Xuanzhu put a curse on me. It has no effect normally, but using spiritual power triggers a backlash—” Although her body was still immobile, Li Yu’s heart raced, her voice trembling slightly. “He doesn’t even see me as a threat anymore. This curse…isn’t meant for me. He wants to use me to transfer it to you, so you…”

    【Warning! Warning!】

【The system has detected the host’s attempt to reveal plot details to the protagonist. This action could lead to the collapse of the world. The system has muted the host’s speech and disabled lip movement.】

    This was infuriating!

She would try a different approach.

Li Yu: “Mu Tao, Weisheng Xuanzhu has…tampered with me. If you get too close, you’ll fall into his trap!”

【The system has muted the host’s speech and disabled lip movement.】

    Deep breaths, stay calm.

Don’t be angry, anger was bad for her health.

The Chinese language was rich and expressive; she could find another way to phrase it.

Li Yu: “Weisheng Xuanzhu has been hiding his true power. He’s far stronger than we imagine. My escape from Mount Chao Yao was too easy; he must be planning something, perhaps I’m the bait, you…”

【The system has muted the host’s speech and disabled lip movement.】

    Seriously, that didn’t work either?

What was the point of having a mouth?!

    【Try appeasing the protagonist, Host.】

Mu Tao wasn’t angry; she simply…wanted her.

    How absurd!

And even if it wasn’t absurd, how was she supposed to “appease” her in this situation?

Li Yu had never felt so speechless, so speechless that she didn’t even notice the anger burning in her eyes.

Mu Tao gently tugged at the sash of her robe.

Li Yu panicked. “Mu Tao! Stop!”

Mu Tao sat up, a hurt look in her eyes.

She looked at Li Yu, a flicker of anger in her eyes, then, perhaps because of the blush on Li Yu’s cheeks, the anger softened into a strange tenderness.

Even when her master was angry, she couldn’t bring herself to resent her.

Her master had said that anything in this world, if she wanted it, she could have it.

Then why couldn’t she have her master?

Thinking this, Mu Tao leaned down and kissed Li Yu’s forehead.

Li Yu’s breath hitched, her cheeks burning.

The young girl leaned against her, her hair, coming loose from its braid, brushing against Li Yu’s face, a cool touch against her burning skin.

Their chests pressed together, silently sharing each other’s heartbeats.

Li Yu’s heart pounded, a chaotic rhythm that threatened to overwhelm her.

Her vision blurred, as if shrouded in mist.

She looked at Mu Tao, and Mu Tao stared back, her gaze unwavering.

This brief exchange of gazes intensified the already chaotic emotions swirling within them.

No one had dared touch Li Yu since she returned, unconscious, only cleansing her body with spells.

And she had left Mount Chao Yao in simple white robes, her hair tied back with a blue ribbon, without even a hairpin.

This simple attire drew attention to her delicate features.

And now, her usually pale face was flushed, a captivating sight that made it difficult to look away, like a flower blooming in secret, its beauty drawing one in.

Master’s white robes are a bit too…cold, Mu Tao thought.

Why did Master always have to be so aloof?

Surely she could be closer to the world, closer to her.

After a moment of hesitation, the hand that had been stopped earlier gently cupped Li Yu’s face.

Her slender fingers brushed aside Li Yu’s slightly disheveled hair, tilting her face upwards slightly.

She leaned in, gently tracing Li Yu’s features.

As their lips met, she untied the sash of Li Yu’s robe.

The once neat robes loosened slightly,

    A captivating sight.

Suddenly, no longer satisfied, Mu Tao sought more.

This bolder advance jolted Li Yu awake.

    She couldn’t, she couldn’t do this…

The curse poison, it would harm Mu Tao.

    “Mu Tao, stop…”

Mu Tao, as if she hadn’t heard, kissed her again.

Li Yu’s body, though restrained by the spell, trembled instinctively.

“You can’t… You can’t do this to me…”

    “…”

    “Mu Tao! I said stop!”

    “…”

After a moment of silence, Mu Tao looked into Li Yu’s eyes.

She saw fear, panic, and even resistance in those deep blue eyes.

She had done everything her master asked; why was her master even more distant now?

“Why?” she asked, her brow furrowed. “Are you that…unwilling to be with me?”

“I can, I can stay by your side, I can always be with you…” Li Yu’s voice trembled. “But you can’t…do this…this is absurd…”

Confusion flickered in Mu Tao’s eyes.

After a long silence, she blinked, a mix of hurt and resentment on her face.

She asked softly, “You said you left because you had no choice. Is returning to my side…also something you’re being forced to do?”

    Li Yu: “No…”

    Mu Tao: “No?”

Li Yu suppressed a surge of guilt and whispered, “You’re my only disciple, I…I should protect you, returning to your side…wasn’t a forced choice…”

    Mu Tao: “Just that?”

    Li Yu: “…Yes.”

Mu Tao: “Then, the Harmony Bells are broken, yet you’re still wearing yours, was I…mistaken about its meaning?”

    Li Yu: “…”

That day, Mu Tao didn’t get the answer she wanted.

A wave of bitterness washed over her.

The person beneath her, her clothes disheveled, her hair messy, a sight she had never seen before.

    She should like this.

But she couldn’t bear the unwillingness in her master’s eyes, the almost commanding tone of her voice.

As the spell dissipated, Li Yu sat up, straightened her clothes, and subtly moved away.

    Such an obvious rejection.

Why couldn’t she be bolder? Mu Tao thought.

Did she have to obey her master?

Couldn’t there be a day when her master obeyed her?

  • Devilish Disciple [Transmigration] 63

Chapter 63: “Master Doesn’t Like This?”

Li Yu suspected Weisheng Xuanzhu truly needed a long sleep. Whatever obsession he harbored, he should deal with it after waking up because he was clearly not thinking straight!

This curse poison’s method of transference was ridiculous!

Although a simple method might make it difficult to target the intended victim, this was absurd!

She did like Mu Tao; the girl was wonderful, even closer to her than her best friend from school, with whom she used to do everything together.

But even so, she didn’t have those kinds of feelings for Mu Tao!

Yes, master-disciple relationships were often a breeding ground for inappropriate feelings, but not all masters in novels developed such feelings for their disciples!

Mu Tao looked so young, a high school student at most in modern terms.

Although high school was a prime age for romance, gender and the person involved also mattered.

Did she look like someone who would violate her role as a master?!

How could Weisheng Xuanzhu think such a curse would work?!

The more Li Yu thought about it, the more ridiculous it seemed, and the more ridiculous it seemed, the more she couldn’t stop thinking about it.

This made the dull ache in her chest worsen.

Fatigue washed over her, and her recently recovered consciousness began to fade.

Was she about to faint again?

And there was nowhere to land and rest.

If she had to, she’d fall into the ocean. Although terrifying, the original owner was a being of the West Sea; even if she couldn’t swim, her instincts should prevent her from drowning.

As Li Yu thought this, she saw a dark red cloud of resentment appearing on the distant horizon.

Although not a pleasant sight, it made her relax slightly, the anxiety that had been weighing on her dissipating.

She felt a strong pull towards that direction, but the pain in her chest intensified, a gnawing, tearing sensation that made it hard to breathe.

She lost control of her spiritual energy, which dissipated completely.

    But the pain didn’t lessen.

Her body plummeted downwards, the already aching feeling in her chest intensifying as the sudden weightlessness made her feel like her heart was about to leap out of her throat.

She tried to gather her spiritual energy, to stabilize herself, but the pain was too much; she lost all her strength.

    What a vicious curse.

The wind roared, the sun above blazed, and she closed her eyes, surrendering to the feeling of falling.

    Her last thought was—

Mu Tao probably wouldn’t be able to catch her in time.

Falling from this height, even onto water, would be…unpleasant.

But immortals had protective spiritual energy; she should be more durable…

Hopefully, she could still move when she woke up.

“You just checked; is the Exalted God still unconscious?”

    “Yes.”

“It’s strange. We’ve both examined her; her injuries are healing, although she’s still weak, it’s not life-threatening. Why hasn’t she woken up after so many days?”

    “She’ll wake up eventually.”

    “I know, but it’s strange. Could it be…the demonic energy’s influence…?”

“Hanyu, you shouldn’t say such things.”

    “…”

Yan Buqiu said softly, “Exalted Immortal Li Yu is fine, just weak, that’s why she hasn’t woken up yet. If Mu Tao asks, that’s all you should say.”

“I understand…” Xiang Hanyu sighed and lowered her gaze.

When she and Mu Tao rushed to Mount Chao Yao, anticipating a battle, she sensed Li Yu’s spiritual aura before even reaching the mountain.

But the aura was weak, and when she saw the Exalted God, the figure was already swaying unsteadily in the air.

Before she could react, the figure’s spiritual energy dissipated, and she plummeted towards the ocean.

Her white robes billowed in the wind, like a bird with broken wings.

Instantly, black flames and resentment surged across the vast distance, forming a cushion on the surface of the sea.

The resentment and demonic energy carefully caught the falling figure, avoiding direct contact.

But a few wisps of demonic energy still entered her body.

Mu Tao rushed forward, retracting the demonic energy, and gently caught Li Yu in her arms.

It had been six days since then, and they had returned to the Demon Lord’s palace in the Demon Realm, yet Li Yu was still unconscious.

There were no signs of injury besides the depleted spiritual energy. If it wasn’t the demonic energy’s influence, then what was it?

Although Xiang Hanyu suspected something else, if Mu Tao asked, she couldn’t mention the demonic energy.

Mu Tao cared deeply for Li Yu; if her demonic energy was responsible for Li Yu’s condition, even slightly, she would be devastated…

Having been in the Demon Realm with Mu Tao for six months, how could Xiang Hanyu not understand this?

    Time flew by.

It seemed like only yesterday that she and Yan Buqiu had arrived in the Demon Realm.

On the day resentment enveloped Lingzhou, Li Yu had told her not to forget the wrong she had committed.

She didn’t dare forget; it was etched in her memory.

Li Yu wanted to protect Mu Tao, just as she wanted to protect Yan Buqiu, willing to do anything for her.

Mu Tao’s Demon Bone had awakened because of her; she could never repay this debt to Li Yu.

Although she didn’t know what happened, Li Yu had fainted in the passage between realms, seemingly suffering from the backlash of the Harmony Bells, but she believed Li Yu must have had her reasons.

She had witnessed Li Yu’s care for Mu Tao; it was genuine.

    Mu Tao was alone now.

In the ruthless Demon Realm, a newly transformed little wolf demon, even with a Demon Bone, how could she survive alone?

After much deliberation, Xiang Hanyu, after returning Li Yu to Mount Chao Yao, immediately went back to Lingzhou and told Yan Buqiu her thoughts.

She wanted to repay her debt to Li Yu, to atone for her mistake.

She wanted to go to the Demon Realm and protect Mu Tao for Li Yu.

The Demon Realm was dangerous; she didn’t know how long she would be gone or when she would return.

But this was a debt she had to repay.

She said that she knew Mu Tao had a Demon Bone and might one day lose control, leaving the Demon Realm and causing havoc in the human realm.

But that was precisely why she had to stay by Mu Tao’s side, to help her maintain her last shred of humanity.

Perhaps one day, when Li Yu was no longer constrained, she could return to Mu Tao.

She couldn’t let Li Yu see a Mu Tao who had completely lost herself.

Yan Buqiu, hearing this, looked at the melting snow and sighed softly.

    “I’ll go with you.”

“You…aren’t you staying to protect Lingzhou?”

“Protecting the Demon Bone is also protecting Lingzhou.” Yan Buqiu said softly, her gentle eyes reflecting Xiang Hanyu’s image. “Besides, all of this is partly my fault; you shouldn’t bear the burden alone.”

    “I…”

“Hanyu, from now on, no matter where you are, no matter what you decide, I’ll be with you.”

That day, Xiang Hanyu saw unwavering resolve in Yan Buqiu’s eyes.

They bid farewell to the mountain spirits, left Lingzhou, their home for so long, and traveled through the hidden passage, into the lightless Demon Realm.

After searching for several days, they finally found the little wolf demon, curled up beside a few demon corpses, a faint trace of resentment guiding them.

Seeing Mu Tao again, Xiang Hanyu was stunned.

She had imagined the little girl, always clinging to Li Yu, crying and trembling in fear after being abandoned in the Demon Realm.

But when Mu Tao sensed their approach, she simply looked up, her eyes cold and alert, staring at them.

    She looked…unfamiliar.

Those eyes were so different from the usual gentle gaze, like a lone wolf, without a trace of vulnerability.

“Why are you here?” Mu Tao asked in a low voice.

    “We…were worried about you.”

“Did Master send you?” Mu Tao asked.

Xiang Hanyu hesitated for a moment, then lied, “Yes.”

But that brief hesitation didn’t escape Mu Tao’s notice.

Mu Tao curled up tighter, a flicker of disappointment in her crimson eyes.

After a moment of silence, she said calmly, her voice devoid of emotion, “It’s all lies.”

    “We’ll stay with you…”

“Whatever.” Mu Tao closed her eyes, seemingly wanting to rest.

Xiang Hanyu quietly observed the little wolf demon.

She looked dirty, her clothes stained with dried blood.

The bloodstains, dark against the red fabric.

She clutched something tightly in her hand, only a bit of red string visible.

A faint demonic aura flickered around her small frame, dangerous yet controlled.

Xiang Hanyu and Yan Buqiu waited patiently until Mu Tao stood up, then followed her as she walked away, her destination unknown.

For six months, they followed Mu Tao.

The initial aimlessness didn’t last long; the little girl quickly found her purpose.

She wanted to become stronger, so strong that no one could bully her.

The power of the Demon Bone, even demons feared it.

But Mu Tao accepted it readily, not resisting, just striving to control and adapt.

In this ruthless world, she repeatedly used that volatile power, enduring the backlash each time it threatened to consume her.

Neither Xiang Hanyu nor Yan Buqiu could heal her injuries.

Because both demonic and immortal energy were rejected by the Demon Bone.

But perhaps because of the Demon Bone, Mu Tao’s regenerative abilities were far superior to ordinary beings, her wounds healing at a visible speed.

As if impervious to pain, she constantly challenged renowned demon cultivators, never resting, always pushing herself.

Xiang Hanyu lost count of how many times she tended to Mu Tao’s injuries.

Perhaps because of their prolonged interaction, Mu Tao was no longer as cold and distant, occasionally talking to them.

But besides wanting to control the Demon Bone’s power, almost every conversation revolved around the master who had abandoned her.

There seemed to be no hatred in her words, either well hidden or truly gone.

She seemed to believe that as long as she was strong enough, Li Yu would return to her side—no matter the cost, she would make her return.

Xiang Hanyu watched as she relentlessly pursued power.

Mu Tao’s name gradually spread throughout the Demon Realm.

But she wasn’t satisfied; she wanted to be the strongest, to have the power and authority to obtain what she desired.

And Xiang Hanyu could see that all Mu Tao wanted…was Li Yu.

This girl, with the terrifying Demon Bone, her deepest desire was surprisingly pure.

This desire made her cling to the last words Li Yu spoke to her before leaving.

    —Injure, but not kill.

But the Demon Realm was chaotic; often, to protect herself, she had to kill.

Every time this happened, she would say with a wry smile that she had disobeyed her master again, that her master would be angry.

She seemed troubled by this, but it didn’t stop her.

Recently, Mu Tao finally became the strongest in the Demon Realm.

She was severely injured in the process and spent a long time recuperating.

Then one day, a trader from the human realm brought news.

Li Yu, the Exalted Immortal of Mount Chao Yao, was about to be married, and her betrothed was Lingyao Revered One, who should have been in hibernation, yet had somehow awakened.

That day, after hearing about the events on Mount Chao Yao, Mu Tao fell into deep thought.

The green spiritual fire in the room flickered, illuminating the shifting emotions in her eyes.

Xiang Hanyu couldn’t decipher her thoughts.

She only knew that Mu Tao, ignoring her injuries, immediately went to the passage between realms.

Xiang Hanyu followed, unable to help but remind her, “Mu Tao, this could be a trap! They know you care about Li Yu, they’re trying to lure you…”

“What if it’s not?” Mu Tao interrupted.

    “…”

“If it’s not, then Master…truly doesn’t care about me anymore, right?”

    “…”

For a moment, Xiang Hanyu saw a flicker of vulnerability in the usually resolute girl’s eyes.

“Then I hope it is a trap, that Master was forced, I’ll save her, bring her back to the Demon Realm…” Mu Tao whispered, a strange glint in her eyes. “And she’ll stay with me forever.”

How fortunate, her wish was granted.

As she rushed towards Mount Chao Yao, her master was also fleeing.

She didn’t know why, but amidst her heartache, Xiang Hanyu saw a flicker of joy in Mu Tao’s eyes.

It was the first time she had seen such joy since arriving in the Demon Realm.

Xiang Hanyu’s own feelings had also changed during these past six months.

    Her initial worries hadn’t materialized.

Although Mu Tao had changed drastically since that winter day they first met, she hadn’t lost her core values.

For someone with the Demon Bone to achieve this alone was beyond her expectations.

Perhaps because of this, she no longer stayed by Mu Tao’s side just to repay her debt, but also because she saw this kind and stubborn girl as a younger sister, genuinely hoping for her happiness.

“Mu Tao has been waiting anxiously, refusing to eat properly…” Xiang Hanyu sighed. “I hope the Exalted God wakes up soon. Mu Tao will be overjoyed.”

“Yes,” Yan Buqiu replied, looking towards the closed door of the bedchamber, her voice filled with hope. “And I hope…Mu Tao can find the answers she’s looking for, answers that will bring her peace.”

On her eighth day in the Demon Lord’s palace, Li Yu slowly opened her eyes.

Her vision was blurry, as if shrouded in darkness, only a few flickering green lights visible.

Slowly, her vision, and her memory, returned.

    This was an unfamiliar place.

A bedchamber made of black stone, lit by green spiritual fire, its faint light casting long shadows.

The furnishings were dark and heavy, the bed curtains a deep blue.

A girl in red knelt by her bedside, her eyes closed, her brow furrowed, her long eyelashes fluttering slightly.

This scene felt familiar, a hazy echo from a distant past.

Without a dying candle to judge by, Li Yu couldn’t tell how long the girl had been here.

She just stared at the familiar, youthful face, so familiar it felt like they hadn’t been apart, yet also like a lifetime ago.

Mu Tao seemed to have lost weight.

Li Yu’s heart ached, and she raised a stiff finger, gently caressing the cheek she hadn’t seen in so long.

    Mu Tao’s eyes snapped open.

Without a word, tears welled up in her light brown eyes.

She sat up straight, grabbed Li Yu’s hand, opened her mouth as if to say something, then just sniffled and whispered,

    “Master…”

Her voice was soft, as if afraid to break a beautiful dream.

She had been waiting for so long, and only now, looking into those deep blue eyes through her tears, did she truly believe her master was back.

“Master, I missed you so much,” she choked out, her voice breaking.

A surge of emotion overwhelmed Li Yu.

“I…missed you too…” She tried to keep her voice steady, but tears blurred her vision.

A single tear rolled down her cheek, forming a pearly white bead that landed on her dark hair.

Li Yu froze, a wave of embarrassment washing over her.

Tears turning into pearls, it sounded beautiful in novels, but experiencing it herself was mortifying!

She quickly turned her head, trying to discreetly hide the pearl with her hair.

But Mu Tao picked it up first.

Her fingers brushed against Li Yu’s hair, a light flickering in her eyes as she looked at the pearl.

“This is the second time Master has cried for me,” she whispered, a tearful smile on her face.

She gently touched Li Yu’s cheek with the back of her hand.

Her cool fingers brushed against Li Yu’s face, wiping away the tearstain.

Her eyes became unfocused, a hazy longing in their depths.

This sudden touch, that intense gaze, made Li Yu’s heart clench. Was this…appropriate?

    She instinctively pulled away slightly.

Mu Tao’s hand froze in midair, the adoration in her eyes shifting.

    She frowned slightly, confused.

The joy in her heart, like a dream shattering, was pulled back to reality.

“Master, what are you hiding from?”

    “I…”

    “Master doesn’t like this?”

    “…”

“But Master, don’t you always do this?” Mu Tao asked softly, a faint smile appearing on her lips.

She took Li Yu’s left hand and placed it against her cheek.

She could feel Li Yu trying to pull away, a flicker of panic in her blue eyes.

Mu Tao: “Master abandoned me for so long, and now that we’re finally reunited, you seem…afraid of me?”

Li Yu quickly explained, “Mu Tao, I’m not afraid of you…”

    Mu Tao: “Really?”

    Li Yu: “Really, it’s just…”

Mu Tao interrupted. “You told me to learn to control the Demon Bone, and I did—it can no longer influence me!”

She nuzzled against Li Yu’s hand.

The silver bells in her sleeve chimed softly, and a determined glint appeared in her eyes.

“When I brought you back, I noticed you were still wearing your Harmony Bell.”

“Actually, I never took mine off either…”

“You promised to stay by my side, to teach me how to control the Demon Bone, to help me gain power, protect those I want to protect, and obtain everything I desire—you broke your promise, but I did it all on my own.”

Mu Tao’s lips gently brushed against Li Yu’s fingers, feeling her tremble.

“Master,” she said, “I can protect you now.”

A tear fell onto Li Yu’s hand.

Warm droplets slid down her wrist, wetting the red string tied to the silver bells.

Mu Tao took a deep breath and gently touched the bells,

    Her eyes red, she whispered—

“So…does that mean…I can finally have you too?”

Chapter 62: What Did He Think Their Relationship Was?! P2

Si Qinglan asked many questions, but Li Yu’s answers were either “no” or “I agreed willingly.”

    But how was that possible?

She swore she wasn’t against their relationship, but Li Yu was still wearing her Harmony Bell!

And the former Li Yu was so fixated on Mu Tao.

How could she, upon hearing that Mu Tao had become the Demon Lord, suddenly change her mind and decide Weisheng Xuanzhu was the one for her?

Si Qinglan found it strange and unsettling.

After the wedding, Li Yu would no longer live at Chaoxi Pond.

Thinking that Li Yu, in her current state, might forget to pack her belongings, Si Qinglan, feeling a surge of kindness, went to Chaoxi Pond to help her pack.

But she soon realized she had been overthinking it.

Chaoxi Pond was practically empty, the only places with any belongings being the kitchen and Mu Tao’s room.

But she didn’t dare touch Mu Tao’s things without Li Yu’s permission.

So, without taking anything, Si Qinglan went to the last room, Li Yu’s own residence.

Li Yu, seeing her, didn’t even thank her, just sat by the window, drinking tea.

Si Qinglan sighed, wanting to say something, but then decided it was pointless and started packing.

    This room was also empty.

Just some basic necessities, not even a single copper coin in sight.

Si Qinglan, too lazy to bother, simply swept the room with her spiritual energy, thinking that if there weren’t any artifacts, she’d let Li Yu go to Qingke Hua empty-handed.

    Weisheng Xuanzhu wouldn’t mistreat her.

Just as she was about to withdraw her spiritual energy, she sensed a faint aura.

Following the aura, she found a letter weighed down by the inkstone on the desk in the inner room.

    “To…Si…Qing…Lan…?” Si Qinglan frowned.

The letter carried Li Yu’s aura; she must have written it herself.

But Chaoxi Pond and Qianlizhu weren’t far apart; they could meet anytime, why write a letter?

Si Qinglan opened the envelope, muttering, “Why not just tell me directly? And she even misspelled my name…”

As she unfolded the letter, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

    What was this mess?

The handwriting was messy, full of misspelled words.

And not just misspelled words, but Si Qinglan, glancing at the signature, gasped.

She even misspelled her own name!

Didn’t she find it strange when writing it?

Si Qinglan, both amused and curious, started reading.

Although filled with errors, mostly missing strokes, it was still decipherable.

Si Qinglan quickly finished reading, half deciphering, half guessing.

She then fell into deep thought.

    “How could this be…”

Li Yu had been determined to go to the Demon Realm and find Mu Tao!

But now, she was staying here, about to marry someone she never intended to marry.

Weisheng Xuanzhu must have done something!

This letter was filled with errors, unlike something a normal person would write. Li Yu must have been under a spell!

“Li Yu!” Si Qinglan rushed over, placing the letter before her. “Look, what is this?”

    Li Yu replied calmly, “Paper.”

    “Are there…words on the paper?”

    “Yes.”

    “What do they say?”

    “…”

Li Yu’s eyes unfocused, her voice emotionless as she recited the content of the letter.

    Si Qinglan gasped.

Li Yu wasn’t conscious, just responding instinctively, unable to think.

    She had been careless…

    To only realize it now!

Si Qinglan quickly scanned Li Yu’s meridians with her spiritual energy.

A strange power, trapping her soul in a dream-like state, only her physical body awake.

The soul governed the mind, the physical body governed instinct. This spell essentially turned a person into a walking corpse.

Weisheng Xuanzhu, how could he do this?

This was so sudden; she had never seen him act like this!

The former Li Yu would never have been affected by such a spell, but the current Li Yu was too weak to resist.

Should she confront him? Si Qinglan wondered.

After a brief hesitation, she had her answer—she shouldn’t, she couldn’t.

If he was capable of this, she couldn’t fight him, couldn’t convince him to stop…

Si Qinglan frowned, staring at the vacant-eyed Li Yu for a long time.

Suddenly, she closed her eyes, sighed heavily, and formed a hand seal.

A stream of pale green light flowed from her fingertips towards Li Yu’s forehead.

She was afraid she wouldn’t be able to do it, but thankfully, that strange power wasn’t as strong as she had imagined.

Just as she felt herself reaching her limit, it began to weaken.

The first crack appeared, and her spiritual energy surged through it like floodwaters.

Li Yu frowned, her expression pained.

A familiar voice called out from the silent void.

    “Wake up…”

    “Li Yu, wake up!!”

Her head spun, her body felt heavy, as if she had been asleep for a long time, forgetting how to wake, her very breath no longer under her control.

    “Li Yu!”

Someone was shaking her, so rude, it made her head hurt even more…

    “Li Yu!!!”

A loud shout, almost deafening, jolted her awake.

    Their eyes met.

One filled with relief, the other with confusion.

    Si Qinglan: “You’re finally awake!”

    Li Yu: “…”

    Finally awake?

Li Yu frowned and looked down at herself.

She was fully dressed, sitting by the window, not looking like she had just woken up.

But she had indeed had a long dream, a dream she couldn’t remember.

    Her head was spinning.

Her mind was blank; she couldn’t recall what happened before she fell asleep…

Si Qinglan: “Li Yu, go to the Demon Realm!”

    Li Yu: “Huh?”

Si Qinglan: “Leave Mount Chao Yao, you have to leave, now!”

    Li Yu: “W…what’s going on…”

Si Qinglan: “Tonight is your wedding with Weisheng, he’s controlling you!”

    Li Yu: “What?”

Si Qinglan stood up, anxiety in her eyes. “I don’t have time to explain, just leave, go to the Demon Realm, find Mu Tao, she can protect you!”

    Li Yu: “Mu Tao…protect me…”

She remembered—Mu Tao killed the Demon Lord, she was the new ruler of the Demon Realm now.

But what was happening? Why was Si Qinglan saying she was getting married to Weisheng Xuanzhu tonight?

“Don’t think about it! Just go!” Si Qinglan shoved a jade hairpin into Li Yu’s hand. “Use this if necessary, it will slow you down a bit, but it can conceal you from Soul Searching Techniques!”

Li Yu frowned and looked at the hairpin.

She recognized it; it was Si Qinglan’s Spirit Severing Hairpin…

Before she could react, Si Qinglan pulled her to the door, urged her to cast a concealment spell, and then, utterly bewildered, she left Mount Chao Yao.

Flying directly with her spiritual power was much faster than using the crane.

As she flew over the vast ocean, she struggled to recall what happened, asking the system for clarification.

She remembered everything up to being trapped in the void.

The system told her that while she was unconscious, the mountain gate of Mount Chao Yao was open, and Weisheng Xuanzhu had announced their impending marriage.

He had deliberately spread this news far and wide; almost every immortal sect in the human realm received an invitation.

    “Is he insane?!”

Li Yu was certain that Weisheng Xuanzhu had no romantic feelings for “Li Yu.”

He hadn’t stayed on Mount Chao Yao for three thousand years just for…her!

What was he trying to do?!

Had he set a trap for Mu Tao?

But why was he so sure Mu Tao would come?

    What if…she didn’t care…

    Wait, she suddenly felt unwell

System, did Weisheng Xuanzhu do something to me? My injuries were healing, why was flying suddenly so difficult…?

【Friendly reminder: There’s a curse poison within your body, Host, one that’s difficult to detect.】

    “Curse poison?”

【This curse poison blocks the flow of spiritual energy through the meridians. It has no noticeable effects normally, but using spiritual power triggers a backlash, the stronger the spell, the stronger the backlash.】

“…Then how am I supposed to reach the Demon Realm?” Li Yu panicked. “Will I…crash?”

    This world was too hostile!

【Don’t worry, Host, the protagonist is on her way!】

    “Mu Tao…”

So Mu Tao really had come for her because of this news…

Then Weisheng Xuanzhu’s plan had failed?

    【Negative.】

    “Why not?!”

【This curse poison…can be transferred to another person.】

    “…”

So, Weisheng Xuanzhu wanted to use her to weaken Mu Tao, making it easier to obtain the Demon Bone.

It seemed there wasn’t an ambush on Mount Chao Yao.

The biggest trap was within her own body.

Weisheng Xuanzhu had spread the news of their wedding precisely to lure Mu Tao here. If she had unknowingly left with Mu Tao, the curse poison would have been transferred.

Thankfully, she woke up in time…

Now, the question was, how was this curse poison transferred?

It shouldn’t be through spiritual energy, since Si Qinglan had just healed her.

She didn’t want to be burdened by this curse.

If she knew how it was transferred, she could find a wicked person and pass it on to them.

    【Hmm…】

    “Why the hesitation?”

    【Host, this curse poison…is transferred through…intimate physical contact.】

    “Oh, intimate physical contact…”

    Li Yu froze.

    No…seriously?!

What kind of curse poison was this?!

    Weisheng Xuanzhu was insane!!!

What did he think her relationship with Mu Tao was?!

  • Devilish Disciple [Transmigration] 62P1

Chapter 62: What Did He Think Their Relationship Was?! P1

The moment the stars appeared, everything around her vanished.

She was enveloped in a night-like void.

Countless stars, some forming rivers, some swirling into clouds, some just flickering faintly.

They moved silently through the void, brilliant yet lonely.

Li Yu stared at this sea of stars, a strange emptiness settling in her heart, a sense of melancholy she couldn’t resist.

The night, the stars, they were right before her.

This power had fueled the three-hundred-year-old resentment of the City of the Undying, caused chaos in the human realm, breached Mount Chao Yao’s defenses, and stolen the Upper Spirit Lamp.

She had suspected the black-robed figure was the ancient god who fell into darkness four thousand years ago, but she never imagined that the culprit was right here beside her, on Mount Chao Yao.

So, Weisheng Xuanzhu passing by the City of the Undying three hundred years ago wasn’t a coincidence.

Or rather, it was a coincidence.

He happened to pass by, saw the Huai army outside the city, saw the southern king’s desperation, saw the wicked cultivator, and saw Qin Ruoheng, her heart filled with pain and suffering.

It was the perfect seed for resentment.

He didn’t even have to exert much effort, just plant the seed and watch it grow.

No wonder the black-robed figure was so familiar with Mount Chao Yao, knew when Weisheng Xuanzhu would enter hibernation, and could easily break the seals on the mountain gate and Suiqiong Cave.

She had thought that someone who could break the seal on Suiqiong Cave simply by instructing others and providing a small amount of power must be far stronger than her and Weisheng Xuanzhu.

Although both Xiang Hanyu and Si Qinglan insisted that the ancient god had perished, she had suspected the black-robed figure was that god precisely because the seal was broken so easily.

Now, she realized it wasn’t because of the black-robed figure’s overwhelming power, but because the seal was already weakened.

Weisheng Xuanzhu must have tampered with it when he “repaired” it.

That’s why he said he could handle it alone, why he told her not to interfere, to focus on recovering…

She hadn’t understood, hadn’t seen through his deception, and that was how the Upper Spirit Lamp was stolen so easily.

He had always remained hidden, was it because he was afraid of confronting her directly?

    And what about later?

He wanted the Upper Spirit Lamp but was betrayed by Xiang Hanyu.

After Mu Tao’s seal was broken, Li Yu was severely injured, but he still didn’t appear, didn’t try to take the Lamp.

That would have been the perfect opportunity…

…an opportunity that wouldn’t even expose his identity.

    Why didn’t he do it?

And just now, he said he wanted to see Mu Tao.

He even asked her to bring back the Demon Bone!

    Had his plan changed?

Initially, he only needed the Upper Spirit Lamp. Then, by breaking the ancient god’s seal, he could obtain the Heavenly Demon’s power.

But during this process, he discovered the Demon Bone and changed his plan?

Yes, that was likely it. There had been a strange note in his voice when he mentioned being kept in the dark for two hundred years.

If he had known about the Demon Bone earlier, everything would have been different.

But what did he want with the Demon Bone?

Was the cost of breaking the Lamp’s seal too high, and using the Demon Bone as a catalyst could reduce it?

Or was it that if the power within the Demon Bone was sufficient, he wouldn’t need to break the seal on the Lamp and release the more dangerous Heavenly Demon Soul Seed?

But that didn’t make sense. Whether it was the former or the latter, he should have taken the Demon Bone earlier.

He had opportunities to take Mu Tao, during their escape from Mount Chao Yao, during her imprisonment, even during their journey in the human realm.

He didn’t, was it because he was wary of the Demon Bone’s power, or because the Heavenly Gate was still open, posing a risk…?

    Perhaps both?

Because of these concerns, he hadn’t dared to act directly, fearing failure.

Perhaps, at some point, he believed his plan had failed and needed a new one.

And then she returned, injured and bearing the guilt of releasing the Demon Bone, giving him a new opportunity.

He knew the Heavenly Gate could only be destroyed when it was open, so he watched as she and Si Qinglan faced pressure from the immortal sects, waiting until they were forced to open the Gate before “helping.”

Now, the Heavenly Gate was severed, she was injured, and news of the Demon Bone in the Demon Realm had arrived.

He knew it was time to continue his plan.

But the obsession in his eyes told her that he truly just wanted an answer.

Li Yu couldn’t understand what kind of answer required the power of the Heavenly Demon.

What was he planning to do with that power?

“Weisheng Xuanzhu!” Li Yu couldn’t help but shout at the void. “What are you trying to do?! Isn’t there another way?!”

    “Haven’t you always known?”

A cold, disembodied voice echoed through the void.

“What I want…has always been to revive the Heavenly Demon.”

Not to obtain its power, but simply to revive it, just like he told the demons…?

Then the Demon Bone wasn’t just a catalyst for breaking the Lamp’s seal.

He wanted a vessel for the Heavenly Demon Soul Seed.

The Heavenly Demon would devour Mu Tao!

“Why? You just wanted an answer!”

“Are you finally willing to tell me?”

“…If she did, would he stop?

But she didn’t know, she truly didn’t!

Reviving the Heavenly Demon, such a heavy price.

What kind of truth was worth such a price?

The original story didn’t mention any of this; just how much had the author deviated from the outline?!

    What should she do now?

He had first asked her to bring back the Demon Bone, now he trapped her in this void, what was he planning?

    It was all so confusing!

System, can you help me break free from this illusion?

【The host is currently low on spiritual energy. The system is unable to assist.】

She now suspected that the system, while claiming she was free to do as she pleased, already knew what awaited her.

    Was this…her main storyline mission?

Weisheng Xuanzhu had been targeting her all along; there was no escape.

His sudden visit, right as she was about to leave, wasn’t a coincidence!

He knew she was leaving and came to give her an ultimatum!

If she couldn’t give him a satisfactory answer, he would reveal his true intentions and continue his plan to revive the Heavenly Demon.

She wasn’t being harmed in this void, so perhaps there was still a chance…

Li Yu said urgently, “Weisheng Xuanzhu, let’s talk, alright?”

    She was met with silence.

“Are you even listening?” Li Yu persisted. “Whether you believe it or not, I truly don’t know the truth you want! But I’m willing to help, we can find a way together, I…”

“You’re still the same, always lying.”

    “No, I’m not…”

“If you’re willing to help, then sleep.”

    “Sleep?”

“When you wake up, you will have already helped me greatly,” the disembodied voice said calmly.

    “…”

    What did he mean?

    How could sleeping help him?

Could he control her body while she was unconscious? Was he planning to use her identity to deceive Mu Tao?!

He couldn’t do that; it would ruin everything!

Li Yu wanted to say something but found she couldn’t speak, the silence impenetrable.

A wave of drowsiness washed over her.

She looked up at the stars, feeling herself being swallowed by the vast, lonely cosmos.

The nebula collapsed, the stars reversed their course.

All the starlight twisted and flickered, like a silent alarm, signaling impending destruction.

A star, as white as snow, descended towards her.

She instinctively tried to block it with her spiritual energy.

But it passed through her defenses, like snow through moonlight, and entered her forehead.

Everything blurred as her consciousness faded.

    “If you’re tired, just sleep.”

She heard a voice, unfamiliar yet gentle.

Like a spring breeze, whispering in her ear.

“When you wake up next time…”

    When I wake up…what will happen…?

    “When you wake up, we…”

    …We?

    “Let’s go outside and see…”

    Outside where? Inside where?

    —She didn’t know.

As the nebula completely collapsed, the starlight extinguished, she fell into darkness.

A darkness without day or night, without time, only profound silence.

    She couldn’t speak, couldn’t hear,

    Couldn’t think, couldn’t remember.

She didn’t even know who she was, or where she would go upon waking.

In this nothingness, she heard the sound of waves and wind…

And a silent voice, seemingly from nowhere—

The North Sea, untouched by sunlight, a forgotten land of eternal night.

It slumbered in eternal night, and it awakened in eternal night.

The seawater flowed over it, like over a solitary island.

How cold the night, how long the years, it didn’t matter.

Until a moon appeared in the sky, its light illuminating the falling snow.

It heard her song for the first time.

    So soft, so distant…

As if it could awaken the silent world.

    But who was she…?

It wanted to see the figure bathed in moonlight, but no matter how hard it tried, it couldn’t…

The mountain gate was open, and Mount Chao Yao was lively.

Whether disciples, spirits, or visitors from other sects, everyone was talking about the same thing.

The upcoming wedding of Cangming Revered One and Lingyao Revered One.

With the Upper Spirit Lamp still on Mount Chao Yao, and the mountain still the most prominent immortal sect in the human realm, despite the previous tension, all the sects sent representatives, eager to offer their congratulations.

“I never imagined Li Yu, the Exalted Immortal, would ever marry.”

“Why not? In the past, it was indeed unlikely; no one in the human realm was worthy of her. But now, with her reputation tarnished by the Demon Bone and her cultivation weakened, even marrying the Kun Peng Monarch of the North Sea depends on whether he’s willing.”

“You dare say such things on Mount Chao Yao?”

“Why not? I heard she’s the one who proposed. Firstly, to repay him for stopping the opening of the Heavenly Gate, and secondly, to use dual cultivation to recover her strength.”

    “Really?!”

“Don’t tell anyone; a friend told me this in confidence.”

    “Of course!”

—Of course, it was meant to be spread.

Even on Mount Chao Yao, with Li Yu being the head of the Three Revered Ones, gossip still spread like wildfire.

And it wasn’t just the outsiders; even the disciples were whispering about it.

As some said, ever since the Demon Bone incident, the once revered guardian of the Upper Spirit Lamp, the only god in the human realm, had lost her prestige—even the Mount Chao Yao disciples dared to gossip about her now.

Si Qinglan reprimanded anyone she heard talking about it, but rumors were hard to suppress.

Yet, Li Yu herself didn’t seem to react, as if she was oblivious to it all.

Si Qinglan couldn’t understand any of this.

Li Yu was like a different person, so unfamiliar that she didn’t even know how to talk to her.

It was like going back to the past, when Li Yu was cold and distant—always expressionless, quiet, and aloof.

Even more baffling was Li Yu agreeing to marry Weisheng Xuanzhu.

She had even asked Li Yu directly.

“Li Yu, no offense, I’m just curious, why did you suddenly agree?”

She was so curious it made her anxious.

“You always avoided him before, why marry him now?”

“Are you two planning something to deal with the black-robed figure and keeping it a secret from me?”

    “If not, did he…force you?”

“I mean, did he offer you something in exchange, something you couldn’t refuse?”

    “Nothing…?”

“I won’t tell anyone, although I talk a lot, I can keep secrets!”

“If you don’t want to talk about it, that’s fine…”

“Tell me, did he force you or not?”

    “If he did, just blink!”
