Chapter 194: The Makings of a Demon King (Part 4)

This was Lomond’s territory, and countless grotesque creatures pointed and jeered at her.

The cacophony of insults confirmed her location. She was used to it. If she ever returned here and didn’t hear these taunts, she would think something was wrong.

She remembered how she had once groveled for their acceptance, enduring their mockery and abuse, always with a placating smile. Her attempts at ingratiation had only earned her more abuse.

    How foolish she had been.

Candice chuckled self-deprecatingly. These insults, once so hurtful, now meant nothing. She had found something far more important than the acceptance of these creatures.

Someone in this world had truly accepted her… and one was enough.

She had been waiting outside for hours. Lomond, it seemed, was trying to assert his dominance, deliberately making her wait, a petty display of power.

This foolish prince truly enjoyed such meaningless displays of authority.

Candice, having anticipated this, remained calm, observing her surroundings with a detached amusement. Compared to the human world, the Demon Beast lands were crude and underdeveloped. Many Demon Beasts possessed intelligence, but they cared little for clothing or shelter. Naked demons roamed freely, their homes nothing more than caves, hollow trees, or burrows in the earth.

Thousands, even tens of thousands, of Demon Beasts inhabited the forest and the distant mountains. Most, except for the higher-ranking ones, didn’t even have the concept of sanitation.

    There were no toilets.

    Everywhere was a toilet.

The air, which should have been fresh and clean, was thick with a nauseating stench. Demon Beasts fought amongst themselves, their wounds oozing foul-smelling blood, others copulated openly under the sun…

Eating, fighting, and mating: the three primary activities of Demon Beast life.

Only before Candice stood something resembling a building: Lomond’s crude palace, constructed from piled stones.

    Suddenly, Candice tensed.

She sensed a hostile presence approaching.

Such a fool, she thought, seeing his outstretched arms reflected in the sunlight on the ground.

With a swift movement, she pivoted, her elbow slamming into his chest.

The creature, resembling a hairy baboon, staggered backwards, enraged. To be struck by a half-breed, what an insult! It roared, preparing to retaliate.

    Swish!

A sharp, icy projectile shot through the air.

An ice shard, conjured by Candice, stopped just short of the baboon’s throat.

A millimeter closer, and it would have pierced his flesh. Even a Demon Beast couldn’t survive such an injury.

The baboon froze, its face turning as red as its backside, its already hideous features contorted in rage.

Silence fell over the surrounding area.

Countless eyes, of varying shapes and colors, stared at Candice. No one expected this half-breed, after being away for so long, to have become so bold, so defiant.

    By the Demon King!

    This was terrifying.

If she dared to retaliate now, what would she do in the future? It was unimaginable.

But the silence didn’t last. Twisted laughter echoed through the air. This half-breed dared to fight back? This gave them an excuse to teach her a lesson, to put this filthy trash in her place.

They surrounded her, some walking upright, others crawling on the ground, their grotesque faces filled with malice.

They wouldn’t hesitate to kill her.

The Demon Beast world was even more chaotic than the human world, rife with constant infighting. No one would care about the death of a few hundred Demon Beasts, let alone a half-breed.

But Candice merely smiled coldly, unafraid.

With her strength, she didn’t fear these creatures.

Just then, a figure emerged from the palace. Candice recognized him. His name was Dolgo, a half-breed like herself, the product of a Succubus seeking a thrill with a Dire Wolf. He was Lomond’s most trusted subordinate, and very strong.

Dolgo glanced at Candice with disdain. Although they shared Succubus blood, he considered himself superior. After all, she was half-human, while he was half-Dire Wolf.

Dire Wolves were a powerful race among Demon Beasts, serving under the Second Prince.

He seemed eager to see Candice torn apart by the surrounding mob.

But he hadn’t forgotten his master’s instructions.

    “Stop!” Dolgo commanded.

The Demon Beasts paused, but their malicious gazes remained fixed on Candice.

“Candice,” he said, “Prince Lomond grants you an audience.”

A bunch of beasts, mimicking the etiquette of human nobles… how ridiculous, Candice thought, a respectful expression on her face. She bowed slightly. “It is my honor.”

Led by Dolgo, Candice entered the Seventh Prince’s palace.

The palace was large, but still seemed cramped compared to Lomond’s massive, several-tens-of-meters-tall body. It was said that he had used tens of thousands of Demon Beasts to build this palace, a monument to his ego, working countless to death in the process.

His enormous, bloated form occupied the throne, a seat clearly designed for a Demon King, as if to remind everyone of his ambitions.

He was as filthy as ever, his stench overpowering.

Candice placed her hand on her chest and bowed. “Candice greets His Highness the Seventh Prince.”

Lomond nodded slightly and dismissed his other subordinates with a wave of his hand. Then he looked at the tiny woman before him. “Candice,” he said, “I… ahem, this prince just saved you, you know.”

    Candice almost burst out laughing.

Having one of his subordinates harass her, then having another “rescue” her, and then presenting it as a favor? Did Lomond really think this crude trick would fool anyone? Or had he spent the past few hours devising such a childish welcome?

If so, Candice would have to lower her opinion of him even further.

She lowered her eyes, concealing her amusement. “Thank you, Your Highness,” she said demurely.

“You’re welcome. Now, you came all the way from the Auville Imperial City to see me. I expect you to offer something of value,” Lomond said, pleased with her submissive demeanor. His voice boomed through the palace like thunder.

“Your Highness,” Candice said carefully, “I bring you… a trade.”

    “A trade?” Lomond seemed puzzled.

“Yes, Your Highness. I have my own channels for obtaining information. The information about Benson’s and Ronald’s whereabouts was provided by a mysterious person,” Candice explained.

Lomond’s interest was piqued. Killing Benson had greatly elevated his status among the Demon Beasts. “What are the terms of this trade?” he asked.

“This person will continue to provide information, helping you capture Ronald. In return, he wants you to hand Ronald over to him after you capture him, along with all his belongings,” Candice said.

Lomond frowned, his expression darkening. To hand over a member of the Hero Squad, whom he had worked so hard to capture, to someone else? This displeased him.

Who did this person think he was? The Dark Witch Shaye?

“Of course, this person guarantees that he will personally kill Ronald, and the credit will still be yours, Your Highness,” Candice added.

“How can I be sure he will really kill Ronald, and not rescue him?” Lomond countered.

“It’s simple. This person seems to have a deep grudge against the members of the Hero Squad. If he wanted to rescue Ronald, he wouldn’t have told you about his whereabouts… Actually, he wanted to kill Benson personally before, but since it was the first trade, he gave up on the idea of you handing Benson over to him. He said that the first trade was enough to prove his sincerity.”

Candice’s explanation made sense to Lomond.

But even if that mysterious person had requested Benson, he couldn’t have handed him over… After all, he couldn’t defy the terrifying Dark Witch.

Clearly, Lomond didn’t want to accept this trade so readily. He was thinking when his large eyes suddenly focused on Candice again. “That person must have already given you the information, right?”

    “Yes,” Candice answered immediately.

“Then, my loyal subordinate, you wouldn’t hide this information from me, would you?” Lomond said with a grin.

“Of course, if Your Highness wants to know, I can tell you right away,” Candice nodded readily. Lomond was overjoyed, but her next words made his face darken.

“However, that person also said that if he doesn’t get what he wants, he will refuse to cooperate with you in the future. He will no longer provide me with any information and will seek other partners among the princes.”

This wasn’t good news for Lomond.

There were many princes vying for the Demon King’s throne. The competition was fierce.

He had risen above the others by killing Benson, but his position wasn’t secure. If that mysterious person cooperated with other princes, they might pull him down at any time. This was something Lomond absolutely didn’t want to see.

Lomond’s ambition was great. He didn’t just want to be a Demon Prince, he wanted to be the next Demon King.

Candice’s words also made him feel a bit dissatisfied. Was this a threat?

    “Who is that person?”

“I’m sorry, Your Highness, I don’t know. That person’s origins are very mysterious, and he’s also very strong. He always appears before me suddenly and gives me the information. As for his identity, I have no clues at all,” Candice said apologetically.

    Useless.

“However, that person said that Your Highness Lomond is incredibly talented and intelligent, the smartest among all the princes, and you definitely wouldn’t make such a foolish decision.”

These words immediately made Lomond beam.

Although he was unhappy about being threatened, this person had good taste.

Lomond also felt that he was the smartest among all the princes and princesses.

Besides him, all his siblings were idiots.

“He also said that Your Highness is not only resourceful but also powerful, with the makings of a Demon King!”

Lomond’s heart skipped a beat, his large eyes narrowing. He was liking this mysterious person more and more, despite him being a filthy human. He had good taste.

“He said that if possible, he hopes to continue cooperating with you and doesn’t want to find other partners…”

“He’s even willing to continuously provide information and help you secure your position as the heir to the Demon King.”

    Lomond’s breathing became rapid.

Candice continued to add fuel to the fire, “When we parted ways, he also said that the current Demon King is too useless, having lost his former sharpness, and should abdicate and let the more capable Prince Lomond take the throne.”

He felt that this mysterious person was more and more to his liking. He also felt that his father was becoming increasingly useless, always shutting himself in his laboratory, not caring about the Demon Beasts’ great cause of conquering the Heavenly Continent at all. He was no longer qualified to sit on that throne.

Of course, he was smart enough not to say these words out loud.

“He’s even willing to help you overthrow the current Demon King and ascend to the throne, giving you his full support.”

Lomond’s heart pounded, and he felt a strange heat surge through his body.

“However, I felt that his words were too rebellious, so I declined on my own accord…”

Damn it, who told you to decline?!

    Lomond almost roared.

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 193

Chapter 193: The Exhausted Ox (Part 3)

The thought that suddenly popped into Qin Chu’s head made his scalp tingle.

Could it be… that Sylph had been chosen from the moment she was born into this world?

    Twenty-six-year-old Sylph, twenty-six blood-red threads.

This was definitely not a coincidence.

What were those mysterious and sinister beings planning?

The images he glimpsed from Sylph’s soul made Qin Chu realize that the Void’s erosion of this world was far deeper than he had imagined.

It was like this with Sylph, then could it be the same with Karsus?

What about the other members of the Hero Squad?

Qin Chu’s consciousness trembled slightly. This discovery was truly shocking… He suddenly thought of Ekaterina. Although he had controlled her mind with Stunning Love, compared to the Void’s power, the potion’s control was probably insignificant.

If Ekaterina was like Sylph, with the power of the Void lurking within her, waiting to be activated, would she suddenly break free from the potion’s control and turn against him?

A flurry of thoughts raced through Qin Chu’s mind.

After a long while, the turmoil in his consciousness gradually subsided.

He looked ahead. Sylph didn’t seem to notice his presence, her soul still curled up above the pool of blood, the blood churning as if about to boil.

The churning blood had already submerged her small feet, creeping up her slender legs.

Qin Chu could even see faces floating on the surface of the blood… and deeper down, the faint outlines of bones.

Three faces. If the memories he had glimpsed from Sylph were correct, then those should be her father, mother, and… younger brother.

These three people, who should have been closest to her, were killed by her own hands.

Some tragic events must have happened, but Qin Chu had no intention of exploring them.

His consciousness slowly approached Sylph’s soul. Saving her was secondary, even irrelevant. What Qin Chu truly wanted was to find a way to resist the Void’s corruption from her soul. She was a good test subject.

As he got closer, Sylph, who had been murmuring unintelligible words, seemed to sense something and suddenly looked up.

Her dark, empty eyes stared at where Qin Chu’s consciousness was. She had sensed the intruder.

Then, her eyes became redder and redder.

    Qin Chu cursed inwardly.

As expected, the next second, Sylph opened her small mouth and let out a shrill scream.

This time, Qin Chu finally understood what she was saying:

    “Ah~~~~”

The sharp sound spread like a shockwave, creating a storm in her soul world.

Because he had lived through this once before, Qin Chu’s soul was incredibly strong. But this was Sylph’s domain, and her scream caused the entire space to tremble, almost collapsing.

Black whirlwinds raged around him, and the pool of blood surged like a tsunami.

Qin Chu’s consciousness trembled. Even in his pure soul state, he still possessed all his powers, but the problem was that his defense, without his physical body, was zero. Any impact would cause significant damage to his consciousness.

But he didn’t want to leave just yet.

He didn’t care about Sylph’s life or death, but he was afraid that this kind of corruption might one day appear on him, on Angelica, on Candice…

He wanted to find a way to deal with this from this perfect test subject.

Seeing the black whirlwinds approaching, Qin Chu’s consciousness soared into the sky.

The next instant, a soft, white light erupted from his body.

It was like a sun rising in this gloomy soul world.

The gentle light, like sharp swords, shone in all directions, and wherever it touched, the black mud instantly evaporated, turning into a barren desert. A huge hole was torn in the dark sky above.

The Holy Light shone on Sylph, and her scream turned into a wail.

The Holy Light clashed violently with the blood-red threads wrapped around Sylph, like a red-hot iron against ice, the sizzling sound continuous, causing her endless pain.

Her soul twitched and convulsed in the air.

Her soul even became slightly translucent. At this rate, it wouldn’t be long before it completely dissipated.

This wasn’t what Qin Chu wanted. After all, if something similar happened to Angelica, would he directly destroy her soul?

Frowning, Qin Chu withdrew his Holy Light.

Without its obstruction, darkness and filth quickly spread, black mud filling the space.

Waves, tens of meters high, surged in the pool of blood, the viscous liquid sloshing over the sides.

The blood transformed into twisted shadows, howling and clawing at Qin Chu’s consciousness, trying to tear it apart.

Just as these shadows were about to surround him, Qin Chu unleashed his Holy Light again, shattering them, then his consciousness plunged downwards, straight towards Sylph’s soul.

Before Sylph could scream again, he grabbed one of the blood-red threads on her body, pulled it hard, and then his consciousness retreated, leaving her soul world.

    Hum…

Qin Chu’s body trembled, and his vacant eyes returned to normal.

He sat down on the bed, his body drenched in sweat, beads of perspiration rolling down his face.

He glanced at the time. It had only been a few minutes.

But those few minutes felt longer than the previous hour.

His muscles twitched, and a sharp pain pierced his mind. But the harvest this time was good. He opened his palm, and a soft, hazy white light, forming a sphere, pulsed within it. A thin, worm-like creature wriggled inside.

Sylph, losing his support, collapsed to the ground.

Her condition was worse than his, white foam bubbling at the corners of her mouth as if she had been poisoned.

After a long time, her consciousness slowly returned. She didn’t even remember what had happened in her soul world, only the unbearable, almost maddening, tearing pain.

She lay on the ground, gasping for breath, then slowly got up, tidying her disheveled clothes, and looked at her chest.

Then, a joyful expression appeared on her face… The marks on her chest had almost completely disappeared, only a very faint trace remained, barely visible.

Although she didn’t know if it would suddenly worsen again, at least for now, it was good news.

Then she looked up at Qin Chu. Seeing his pale face and sweat-drenched body, Sylph was stunned. It seemed that the treatment had exhausted him as well.

She struggled to get up, her body still aching, her legs trembling.

The slightest movement sent a stinging pain through her wounds.

“Qin Chu, are you alright?” she asked cautiously.

Qin Chu forced a smile. “I’ll live.”

“How… how am I doing?” Sylph asked again, her voice filled with fear.

Qin Chu took a deep breath and raised his right hand, showing her the sphere of Holy Light in his palm. The crimson thread, like a horsehair worm, wriggled frantically, as if it had its own consciousness, its tip twisting as if trying to break through the Holy Light’s barrier.

But every time it touched the barrier, it recoiled in pain, curling up into a ball.

A few seconds later, it tried again, an endless cycle.

This strange creature made Sylph’s scalp tingle. “What… what is this?”

“I pulled it from your soul…”

Qin Chu’s words made Sylph’s face turn pale.

“This is the root of your corruption. There are twenty-six of these things in your soul…”

    Hiss…

Sylph shivered, her hair standing on end.

The thought of twenty-six of these things crawling in her soul made her scalp tingle.

    Fear… and disgust.

“Sorry, I tried my best, but I could only pull out one,” Qin Chu said apologetically, “I wanted to destroy them all, but your soul might also be destroyed along with them. They’re almost completely fused with your soul.”

Looking at the Hero, his face filled with fatigue, yet still apologizing to her, Sylph suddenly felt that this man wasn’t so hateful after all.

However, did this mean that she needed twenty-five more treatments like this?

“Should we start the next one immediately?”

Qin Chu’s eyes widened, and he shook his head vigorously, “No, no, no…”

    “Sylph, are you crazy?”

“Even if you can endure it, I can’t!”

The plow was fine, but the ox would be worked to death.

Actually, he just needed some time to study this thing in his hand.

Cleansing these things from the soul seemed like a good way to remove the corruption and restore the affected person to normal, but this method seemed too troublesome.

And the process was also very dangerous.

Compared to Sylph, Qin Chu cared more about Ekaterina… After all, she was currently a very useful spy planted within the Hero Squad.

Both Loseweisse and Athena, although they might suspect each other, still believed that Ekaterina was on their side. Such a spy was currently very valuable, and Qin Chu didn’t want to lose her yet.

Sylph pouted, feeling frustrated that she couldn’t immediately cleanse all these disgusting things from her soul.

If possible, she would rather spend three days and three nights and get it all over with at once.

    Time passed day by day.

Candice had already closed her bar and left the Imperial City.

She was currently in the Demon Beast territory, waiting for an audience with Lomond.

The task Lord Horus had given her was very important. She had to talk to Lomond face-to-face and confirm his true intentions.

“Look, that lowly bastard is back.”

“The land of demons will be defiled by that filthy half-breed.”

“Doesn’t she know that she’s not welcome here at all?”

“If I were her, I would have killed myself out of shame long ago. Her very existence is a filthy taint…”

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 192

    Chapter 192: A Tainted Soul (Part 2)

    Sylph’s eagerness surprised Qin Chu.

She had been so resistant to the second and third treatment options before. What had changed?

After being dragged back to his bedroom, Qin Chu finally had a chance to ask, “Sylph, what happened?”

Sylph’s reaction was very unusual. Qin Chu could sense her extreme mental fluctuations, her will on the verge of collapse.

Sylph was a veteran of the battlefield, having faced terrifying Demon Beasts and even challenged Abyssal Demon Generals knowing she might die. Although her personality was a bit problematic, she shouldn’t be so afraid of death.

Back in the privacy of his room, Sylph’s expression calmed slightly, but her body still trembled. She was terrified, her arms wrapped tightly around herself, as if trying to hold herself together.

Hearing Qin Chu’s question, after a brief hesitation, Sylph lowered the neckline of her dress.

Seeing the exposed skin, Qin Chu frowned, his expression darkening.

He had deceived Sylph about some things, but he had genuinely lessened the corruption, purified some of the taint.

He had simply stretched out what could have been cleansed in ten treatments to a hundred, or even two hundred.

But now, the cleansed taint had returned, even darker than before. It had actually worsened. No wonder she was so eager for the second treatment.

Sylph’s only hope now was Qin Chu. She felt that everyone else, even her former teammates, looked at her with suspicion, as if they could see the changes in her body.

Especially during the meeting earlier, every second had been agonizing for Sylph. Loseweisse and Augustus’s gazes had terrified her, as if Holy Knights would burst in at any moment and arrest her, subjecting her to a public trial and execution like Karsus.

Sylph dreaded that more than anything.

“Why… why is this happening? It had faded before…” she murmured, close to tears, but afraid to make a sound, afraid of attracting attention.

She had never felt so helpless.

“Sylph…” Qin Chu sighed, his voice heavy, “Open your soul to me completely…”

Sylph’s body trembled. She resisted this. The soul was the core of a being. Opening her soul to Qin Chu meant revealing all her secrets.

This was even more difficult for her than taking off her clothes.

“The root of the corruption lies in the soul. If we don’t address the root cause, the taint on your body will return no matter how many times I cleanse it,” Qin Chu said in a low voice.

“The decision is yours. If you’re unwilling, I won’t force you.”

    He turned to leave.

He had barely taken a step when he heard Sylph’s desperate cry:

    “No!”

Her reaction was more intense than he had expected. She rushed towards him, clutching his clothes, her eyes wide with fear. “No… Both my soul and my body… I give them all to you. I don’t want to become like Karsus!”

From her words, Qin Chu realized that it wasn’t death she feared, but becoming a monster like Karsus. That was more terrifying to her than death itself.

He saw a desperate resolve in her eyes. If she couldn’t be saved, she would choose to end her own life.

Qin Chu patted her head gently. “Sylph,” he said softly, “you have to trust me. Only I can help you now, and I sincerely want to save you. Otherwise, I would have handed you over to Augustus already, wouldn’t I?”

Sylph nodded repeatedly. No matter how much she had disliked, even hated, Qin Chu before, even plotting to kill him, at this moment, he was her only lifeline. She trusted him completely.

“It’s good that you can trust me completely. Then, go prepare yourself first…” Qin Chu whispered in her ear.

A blush crept up Sylph’s pale cheeks. She felt a deep sense of shame, but as long as she didn’t become like Karsus, she could endure anything.

After a long while, Sylph, now in a sheer nightgown, reappeared before Qin Chu. “Qin Chu, let’s…begin. I’m ready.”

The thin fabric barely concealed her beautiful figure, her fair skin visible beneath it.

As Qin Chu channeled the power of Holy Light into her body, Sylph cried out in pain, her body convulsing as the Holy Light clashed with the taint within her.

At this moment, a sharp voice echoed in her mind: Sylph, open your consciousness…

Sylph’s mind went blank for a moment.

Her eyes became vacant and unfocused.

Seizing the opportunity, Qin Chu’s consciousness invaded the deepest part of her mind.

Deep within every living being’s consciousness was a separate space, the realm of the soul.

Sylph’s soul world was clearly abnormal.

He felt his consciousness floating in a gloomy void.

Crimson lightning occasionally tore through the dark sky above. Deep, manic flames burned on the muddy ground below. A swirling black fog filled the air. His movements were restricted, each step a struggle.

The stench of decay and blood assaulted his senses. Qin Chu felt that even his own soul would be corrupted, driven mad, if trapped in this environment for too long.

It was remarkable that Sylph’s soul had endured this for so long, her mind only twisted, not completely shattered.

What surprised Qin Chu even more was that, judging from her soul world, the corruption hadn’t begun on the night of the crimson descent. It had been there for a long time, a dormant seed. The crimson light that night had merely awakened it.

This was a space filled with filth and corruption.

Qin Chu’s consciousness drifted through this endless space, searching for Sylph’s soul.

His spiritual sense extended, exploring every corner of this twisted and tainted soul world.

There was no concept of time here. It felt like eons had passed, yet also like a fleeting moment.

He saw Sylph’s shadows… but they seemed different, younger. Qin Chu realized these were her memories.

Sylph as a child, Sylph as a young girl, Sylph as a young woman…

These memories were everywhere. Qin Chu briefly experienced some of them, understanding why Sylph was so terrified of becoming like Karsus.

Because Sylph was an elf with atavistic traits, she had been different from other children since childhood, and in this world, being different meant being an outcast.

    Rejection, mockery, humiliation, bullying…

This was the life of an outcast, and these experiences had made Sylph extremely sensitive.

Even after she grew up, and her elven blood granted her great strength, no one dared to mock her anymore, but the shadows still lingered. Becoming a monster like Karsus was more terrifying to Sylph than death itself.

Qin Chu couldn’t stay here too long. He had to find Sylph’s true soul, not these fragmented memories.

Suddenly, he heard a faint sound.

His consciousness drifted towards the source of the sound. He didn’t know how far he traveled, perhaps he had reached the edge of Sylph’s soul world?

In the furthest corner, he finally found her.

It was a figure identical to Sylph, only smaller and more translucent, like a phantom.

Perhaps because of the nature of the soul space, Sylph’s soul wasn’t as pure and radiant as her physical body, but filled with a dark haze. She was curled up in a ball, her arms wrapped around her knees.

Her face was vacant, unlike the usual vibrancy of a soul.

Vague, blurry shadows writhed around her.

Her lips parted slightly, as if whispering, but the sounds were unintelligible, like some indescribable murmur.

Beneath her was a large pool filled with a dark red liquid, like thick blood.

He had never imagined that a person’s soul world could be so twisted.

Qin Chu felt a chill run down his spine. He subconsciously swallowed, his consciousness approaching Sylph’s soul.

He saw thin, blood-red threads, like spider silk, wrapped around her body, intersecting and forming an X shape on either side.

Just like the mark on her collarbone.

Just like the mark on Karsus’s chest…

Looking closer, thirteen threads on the left, thirteen on the right…

    Sylph was… twenty-six years old!

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 191

Chapter 191: Sylph Has No Escape (Part 1)

He had over a hundred wives, yet he questioned Qin Chu’s desires? The hypocrisy! Qin Chu inwardly mocked Wadsworth’s audacity.

Wadsworth, realizing his gaffe, immediately shut his mouth.

The others exchanged bewildered glances, unsure how to react.

This Hero, although outstanding, had a rather…unique personality.

Qin Chu frowned, feigning displeasure at Wadsworth’s words. “Brother Wadsworth,” he said in a low voice, “what do you mean by that? What kind of person do you think I am?”

“Do you think I’m expanding the Hero Squad just for that?”

Wadsworth pursed his lips, muttering inwardly, Aren’t you that kind of person? Just look at how many girls you’ve gathered around you in such a short time!

    You’re not even human!

Of course, Wadsworth wouldn’t be foolish enough to say these words out loud. He forced a smile. “Brother Qin, I misspoke. Don’t take it to heart.”

Qin Chu’s expression softened slightly, and he stood up, his gaze sweeping over everyone present. “Everyone,” he declared, “I, as the Hero, am just like you, striving for the peace and prosperity of the Heavenly Continent.”

“Our enemies are the ferocious Demon Beasts and the sinister Evil Gods.”

“They want to trample our land, to plunge our nation, our cities, our people into fire and death. The path of resistance is fraught with peril, and I commend your courage for standing up against them.”

Qin Chu placed his hand on his chest and bowed slightly.

Then he continued, “The Hero Squad is the sharpest blade against the Demon Beasts.”

“But due to some recent unfortunate events, people have lost trust in the Hero Squad, and we must regain that trust. We can’t let this blade rust. We have to let people know that the Hero Squad is still trustworthy, still worthy of their faith.”

“Please believe that I’m not expanding the Hero Squad for personal gain. I’m doing this for the sake of this world.”

Qin Chu’s speech was passionate and inspiring.

“I just want to make this blade sharper and stronger, so we can pierce the Demon King’s heart with a single blow.”

Even seasoned politicians like Augustus and Saint Monique were almost convinced… Yeah, right, they thought.

This Hero had some nerve. He always managed to find high-sounding excuses for his actions.

And these excuses were difficult to refute.

Most importantly, there was indeed no rule stating that the Hero Squad had to have only ten members.

Just because the First Hero, Jie Luo, had formed a ten-member squad, they had subconsciously assumed that the Hero Squad should always consist of ten people. After Qin Chu’s speech, they realized that there was no reason why there couldn’t be more.

In fact, it was a perfect solution.

This way, the four of them didn’t have to fight over the last spot. The matter was perfectly resolved.

Athena, Sylph, Loseweisse, and Airi exchanged glances. Things were developing in the most unfavorable direction for them, and they couldn’t do anything to stop it.

Their plan to resurrect Jie Luo would face many obstacles from now on. They would have to avoid these new members in everything they did and said.

They didn’t suspect that Qin Chu was deliberately sabotaging their plan. In their eyes, with his personality, it wasn’t surprising for him to make such a decision.

The difficult matter was easily resolved by Qin Chu’s words. The next topic of discussion was another matter.

They wanted Qin Chu to leave the Imperial City and go to the battlefield.

Just as Qin Chu had predicted, the front lines had suffered consecutive defeats, severely impacting the morale of the Allied Forces against the Demon Beasts. And with the death of Benson and the fall of Karsus, the situation was even worse.

The Heavenly Continent desperately needed a victory, a glimmer of hope.

Qin Chu naturally agreed, thumping his chest and proclaiming his righteousness and dedication.

Of course, he needed a few days to prepare and wouldn’t leave immediately. All factions had many things to arrange.

The meeting ended in a seemingly harmonious atmosphere.

Zimmerman took Natia back to Sage Mountain. He had many things to tell her… Even if she was destined to be “taken,” she couldn’t let Qin Chu have his way so easily.

Augustus stayed in the Imperial Palace. He seemed to have something to discuss with Wadsworth.

Qin Chu left the palace with Saint Monique and the Saintess of the Church of the Earth Mother Goddess, that girl named… named… what was her name again? Inas?

Along the way, Qin Chu casually chatted with Saint Monique.

He could sense Inas’s strong hostility towards him. He hadn’t interacted much with Inas in the first playthrough, neither liking nor disliking her.

But her coldness made Qin Chu unwilling to approach her. He even felt a bit strange. He had never interacted with Inas in this life, so why did she harbor such strong hostility towards him?

They hadn’t even exchanged a single word.

    It was baffling.

This hostility also irritated Qin Chu.

Saint Monique, with a gentle smile on her face, tried to mediate the awkward atmosphere.

The Holy Maiden of the Church of the Earth Mother Goddess was a very tolerant woman, fulfilling every man’s fantasy of a mature woman.

Although she wasn’t young, she was well-maintained, her skin still delicate and smooth, with no trace of age. Her voluptuous figure exuded mature charm.

For men who liked mature women, Saint Monique’s allure was irresistible.

She always had a gentle smile on her face, making people feel comfortable and subconsciously develop a favorable impression of her… Only Qin Chu knew the viciousness and evil hidden beneath that charming facade.

They chatted as they walked, Saint Monique occasionally chuckling at Qin Chu’s words, her delicate hand covering her mouth, her eyes narrowing.

They unknowingly reached the gate of the Imperial Palace. Saint Monique frowned slightly, a hint of displeasure in her eyes.

A young man in earth-yellow church attire, embroidered with the symbols of earth and stone representing the Church of the Earth Mother Goddess, stood at the gate.

But his attire was different from that of ordinary priests, bishops, or archbishops.

It was adorned with platinum threads, making it look more noble.

The young man was tall and handsome. When he saw Saint Monique and Qin Chu appear together, his eyes lit up. But Qin Chu vaguely felt that the young man’s gaze seemed to be always directed at the space beside Saint Monique.

And Inas, who had been frowning, her eyes also lit up when she saw the young man, a hint of joy and worry in her gaze.

Qin Chu immediately understood. These two were a couple.

He wasn’t the kind of scumbag who would pounce on every beautiful girl he saw.

Expanding the Hero Squad to save the Heavenly Continent was naturally a lie, but Qin Chu wasn’t as despicable as Wadsworth thought.

He already had Shaye, Angelica, Violet, Anthea, Candice, and even Anastasia and Norma… He wasn’t that interested in other girls.

The reason he expanded the Hero Squad was, on the one hand, because those old geezers all wanted to plant spies by his side. It would be more troublesome for them to act secretly and sneakily behind his back. It was better to have them join the Hero Squad directly, so he could easily monitor their actions.

On the other hand, it was because this behavior was more in line with the persona he had presented to them.

As for whether these people had partners or were in relationships, Qin Chu didn’t care. He wouldn’t deliberately break them up. It was none of his business.

The handsome young man, seeing the expression on Inas’s face, seemed to understand the situation. He gritted his teeth and stepped forward, walking directly towards Qin Chu.

Saint Monique’s face turned cold. “O’Niens, what are you doing? Don’t be disrespectful in front of the Hero! Step back!”

The young man named O’Niens was clearly afraid of Saint Monique, but at this moment, he showed great courage. Suppressing his fear, he looked down at Qin Chu, “You’re the Hero?”

“I order you to let me join your Hero Squad.”

    Pfft…

    Was this guy brainless?

Qin Chu felt that this guy might be just as stupid as the Grand Prince.

You order me? Who are you? What right do you have to give me orders? If he had spoken nicely, Qin Chu might have considered it, but this attitude made him want to laugh.

And Inas, beside Saint Monique, stared at Qin Chu with expectant eyes.

Damn it, one acting all high and mighty, the other with a perpetual scowl, as if he owed her money.

And now, one was ordering him, and the other was looking at him with hope?

What kind of monsters were in the Church of the Earth Mother Goddess?

These thoughts flashed through Qin Chu’s mind, but his face remained gentle. “Oh, Master O’Niens,” he said, “the Hero Squad is already full. There are no vacancies left. What a pity.”

Inas’s face immediately changed, and even a hint of disgust appeared in her eyes. She spoke to Qin Chu for the first time, “You just said you wanted to expand the Hero Squad, to make the blade that pierces the Demon Beasts’ hearts sharper and stronger…”

“Yes, I did say that,” Qin Chu wasn’t in a hurry. He spread his hands and smiled, “But we also have to be careful. A sharper and stronger blade is good, but it can’t be too heavy. Otherwise, we won’t be able to lift it.”

“So, I think the Hero Squad, with its current members, is already perfect. We can’t add any more people.”

As a joke, letting someone like O’Niens join, the Hero Squad would truly become a clown troupe.

Inas’s face turned pale with anger, speechless for a moment. And O’Niens’s face was livid, his eyes spitting fire. He seemed to want to rush up and grab Qin Chu by the collar.

But just as he took a step forward, Ekaterina stepped in front of him.

She interlocked her long fingers and twisted them slightly, a cracking sound echoing in the air. Her crimson eyes stared at O’Niens, “O’Niens, do you want to get beaten up? I can turn your face into a pig’s head.”

Although he was a tall man, he seemed small in front of Ekaterina. The aura emanating from her made O’Niens’s throat twitch, an inexplicable fear filling him.

Her seemingly fiery gaze made him feel like he might be burned to ashes. This woman didn’t care about his status, she would really attack.

He glared at Qin Chu, “Just you wait!”

After throwing down these words, O’Niens turned and left, Inas quickly following behind him.

After they left, Saint Monique sighed wearily, rubbing her forehead as if she had a headache. After a few seconds, she looked at Qin Chu, “Hero, please don’t be angry. O’Niens, he…”

“His status in the Church of the Earth Mother Goddess seems to be very high?” Qin Chu raised an eyebrow. He had no impression of this person from the first playthrough, “I don’t quite understand.”

Saint Monique’s expression turned even more helpless, “O’Niens is the Saint Son of the Church of the Earth Mother Goddess this generation…”

Inas was the Saintess, and he was the Saint Son. No wonder they were a couple.

“You know, even in the Church, there are always some connections that can’t be ignored. O’Niens’s mother was the previous Holy Maiden of the Church of the Earth Mother Goddess, so…” Saint Monique explained with a wry smile.

So he was a “guanxihu” (someone who relies on connections). That explained how someone like this could climb so high. If it weren’t for his mother being the former Holy Maiden, the position of Saint Son wouldn’t have gone to such a waste.

“And there are also a group of people loyal to the former Holy Maiden around O’Niens. He grew up in that environment, so he developed a somewhat arrogant personality…” Saint Monique seemed to feel that it wasn’t appropriate to speak ill of the former Holy Maiden’s son and quickly added, “But as long as you spend some time with him, you’ll find that he’s actually not a bad person.”

“Inas and O’Niens are lovers. Since they were Saintess and Saint Son candidates, they were the only people of the opposite sex they interacted with, so naturally, they developed feelings for each other. They’re just waiting to get married after they step down from their positions at thirty.”

“Now, because Inas has been chosen as a member of the Hero Squad, she has to be separated from O’Niens, so he’s naturally a bit unwilling.”

Qin Chu smiled elegantly, “Don’t worry, Holy Maiden, I’m not that petty. Then I’ll take my leave. May the gods protect you.”

“May the gods protect you too.”

They parted ways. On the way back, Athena, Ekaterina, and Airi all made excuses to leave.

Clearly, what had happened today was very important to them, and they had to gather and discuss their next move.

Only Sylph remained with Qin Chu. As soon as they returned to the residence, Sylph pulled him towards her room.

“Miss Sylph, what’s wrong?” Qin Chu asked, puzzled.

Sylph bit her lower lip and said in a deep voice, “Start the second treatment immediately!”

The beautiful elf had no escape!

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 190

Chapter 190: You Want Them All? Can Your Kidneys Handle It?

What a righteous answer! To have summoned such a Hero was truly the greatest fortune of the Heavenly Continent.

    Qin Chu’s response satisfied everyone.

Augustus stroked his beard and nodded slightly. “I admire your resolve, Hero.”

“This is a matter of great benefit to the salvation of the Heavenly Continent. I believe the members of the former Hero Squad wouldn’t object, would they?”

He emphasized the word “former,” his gaze sweeping over them.

Loseweisse, Athena, and Airi’s faces darkened considerably.

Ekaterina lowered her eyes, her thoughts unreadable. Or perhaps she wasn’t thinking at all; after all, everyone knew she was all brawn and no brains.

When Augustus’s gaze fell on Sylph, she instinctively shrank back, her slender neck twitching as she swallowed nervously.

It was the gaze of Augustus, the Pope of the Holy See.

His seemingly cloudy eyes seemed to possess a penetrating power, making Sylph feel as if all her secrets were laid bare before him.

She subconsciously pulled at her collar, covering her neck.

    Silence filled the hall.

    No one spoke.

Recently, with Benson’s death, the Hero Squad’s strength had weakened. Loseweisse had wanted to use his death to their advantage, portraying him as a heroic figure who sacrificed himself to save civilians, besieged by hundreds of Demon Beasts, fighting to the last breath. This would boost the Hero Squad’s reputation and image.

But before her plan could even begin, Karsus’s incident erupted.

Then, Karsus fell, transforming into a terrifying monster, slaughtering countless nobles…

These events had severely tarnished the Hero Squad’s reputation, even leading to resentment towards Jie Luo, and their influence had greatly diminished.

Of course, they were extremely resistant to this situation. In their eyes, the Hero Squad was a small group centered around Lord Jie Luo.

They couldn’t tolerate any outsiders joining.

Loseweisse remained silent. Although she disagreed, she wouldn’t be the first to speak out. She knew someone would do it for her.

As expected, a figure stood up. It was Ekaterina, the Crimson Valkyrie.

I thought Sylph, with her fiery temper, would be the first to speak out… Loseweisse thought. But Ekaterina was fine too. It seemed that Ekaterina also didn’t want others to join and affect their plan.

“On behalf of myself, I welcome the new members who want to join the Hero Squad,” Ekaterina said.

Her words instantly drew the attention of the other women.

Loseweisse’s mouth opened slightly in disbelief, followed by a surge of anger, as if she had been betrayed.

Damn it, how could you allow others to join the Hero Squad?

The Hero Squad was personally chosen by Lord Jie Luo. Anyone else joining would be a taint.

Ekaterina ignored their gazes and continued, “I believe that everyone who wants to join the Hero Squad is doing it for our world. I commend their courage.”

“But I think you might have misunderstood something.”

“Being a member of the Hero Squad is not as glorious as you imagine. It’s not just about honor.”

    “It’s also about responsibility.”

“In my opinion, it’s more about blood, chaos, slaughter, and fear. You will never know what kind of enemy you will face next,” Ekaterina poured cold water on their enthusiasm, “And you never know when you will die.”

The other girls were slightly relieved. It seemed that Ekaterina had also learned to be clever.

Was this a case of “dampening expectations before exceeding them”?

After all, the Hero Squad’s reputation wasn’t very good now. If they directly and bluntly objected, the situation would be very bad. Ekaterina’s approach was just right.

“Moreover, the members of the Hero Squad have been working together for many years. We understand each other. Newcomers might not be able to integrate smoothly, which would be detrimental to our combat effectiveness and unity,” Ekaterina added.

Saint Monique nodded. “So that’s what you’re worried about?”

    “I think you’re overthinking it.”

“Since these individuals have decided to join the Hero Squad, it means they are fully prepared. They are the most outstanding talents from the royal family, the Holy See, the Church of the Earth Mother Goddess, and Sage Mountain.”

“Miss Ekaterina, you wouldn’t think their willpower is inferior to Karsus’s, would you?”

These words made Loseweisse’s heart sink.

Karsus was a stain on the Hero Squad that they couldn’t get rid of. Even in death, he was still causing them trouble. Whenever Karsus was mentioned, it was difficult for them to refute.

As expected, Ekaterina frowned, not knowing what to say.

    Useless idiot… Loseweisse muttered inwardly.

Zimmerman also slowly spoke, “The Hero’s safety is of paramount importance. He is the hope of the Heavenly Continent. We can’t allow him to come to harm, so the Hero Squad must be replenished.”

“Moreover, there was the previous incident of the former Hero Squad members taking the Hero out of the Imperial City without permission. The Hero wasn’t fully developed at that time, and the entire Heavenly Continent had to bear a huge risk. I don’t want that to happen again.”

    This insidious old man.

Deliberately bringing up this point, he was clearly saying, We’re not pursuing your previous mistakes, so don’t make a fuss about this matter either.

This wasn’t a discussion at all. These old geezers were just announcing a decision they had already made.

It was even a threat: If you don’t agree, don’t blame us for settling the score later.

    Understanding this, Loseweisse felt discouraged.

Dealing with these old men was truly exhausting.

Ekaterina also seemed to understand that she couldn’t say anything more. She took a step back and returned to her seat.

“Then, it’s settled,” Wadsworth said with a smile, nodding, “Two positions in the Hero Squad. First, I recommend my cousin, Violet…”

No, no, she’s definitely not your cousin, Qin Chu thought. She’s old enough to be your great-grandmother…

“Miss Violet is close to the Hero and very powerful. I think she’s perfectly qualified to be a member of the Hero Squad. You three have no objections, right?”

Saint Monique, Augustus, and Zimmerman all nodded slightly, agreeing with Wadsworth’s suggestion.

They all knew that the “cousin” thing was complete nonsense.

Violet’s origins were very mysterious. They had all investigated her, but found no clues. She was like a super expert who appeared out of thin air.

But she was brought here by Qin Chu personally.

Now, Qin Chu’s fame, strength, and status were all increasing. No matter what, they had to give him face.

Although this meant four people competing for one spot, the difficulty suddenly increased.

“As for the remaining spot, I recommend my daughter, Carol!”

“Although she’s young, she’s very talented, no less than Lance. I believe she will achieve great things by the Hero’s side.”

The princess named Carol curtsied gracefully to Qin Chu, her large eyes blinking with curiosity… But that gaze made Qin Chu’s hair stand on end.

He felt as if this girl wanted to dissect him and study him piece by piece.

Wadsworth continued, “Although Carol’s strength isn’t very strong, she’s proficient in potion brewing. I believe she can be a great asset to the Hero Squad.”

“No, no, Your Majesty Wadsworth,” Augustus shook his head, “I admit that Princess Carol is indeed very talented, but… we’ve all heard the rumors about Her Highness. Do you want the noble Hero to become her pet?”

“I’m worried that if Carol joins the Hero Squad, it might cause unnecessary trouble…”

Wadsworth’s face darkened. His daughter was good in every aspect, except for her personality, which was truly terrible.

He had wanted to marry her off early.

But Carol’s status was noble, and only the son of a marquis or higher would be a suitable match.

Unfortunately, Carol’s requirement was that either the other party become her pet, or she become theirs. Otherwise, life would be too boring.

But who would dare to treat a princess as a pet?

And which marquis or duke would be willing to let their son be someone else’s pet?

So, although Carol was already of marriageable age, she still hadn’t been married off, becoming a leftover woman.

Although he usually appeared amiable, Augustus wouldn’t give Wadsworth too much face now. Being able to place his own person by the Hero’s side would bring the greatest benefits. These old foxes wouldn’t give up real benefits for the sake of false appearances.

“In comparison, Shirley from our Holy See, although she’s only a Saintess candidate, is definitely the most outstanding one. She’s the one who will succeed Loseweisse in the future,” Augustus said, “And Shirley has a gentle and elegant personality, perfect for staying by the Hero’s side. She’s also proficient in Light magic. She can play a very good role in the Hero Squad, both in terms of healing and defense.”

A flicker of resentment flashed in Loseweisse’s downcast eyes…

    This damned little bitch.

Even when she reached the age of a Saintess, she wouldn’t be willing to step down from that position. She even wanted to climb higher and further…

And she said she would succeed her?

What qualifications did this little bitch have to succeed her?

Shirley, unaware of Loseweisse’s resentment, blushed slightly, her eyes filled with adoration as she looked at Qin Chu.

Although she carried the task assigned by the Pope, her admiration for the Hero hadn’t changed.

“No…” Zimmerman and Saint Monique shook their heads almost simultaneously.

“Are you two mistaken about something? The Hero Squad is supposed to be the Hero’s fighting force, not a daycare center. The new members must be able to immediately join the fierce battles and even take on the responsibility of protecting the Hero.”

“I don’t deny that Princess Carol and Saintess Candidate Shirley are both very talented, but their current strength is insufficient.” Zimmerman stroked his goatee, his face full of pride, “In comparison, my Natia is much more outstanding.”

He paused for two seconds and deliberately said, “Moreover, the Hero and Natia have always had a good relationship. I think Natia is the most suitable candidate.”

Among the four major forces, Sage Mountain was always the weakest.

Although they had thirteen Grand Mages, including Natia… not a single one had broken through to level 90.

Even Zimmerman had been stuck at level 89 for many years and might never be able to advance further in his lifetime.

If Natia could build a good relationship with Qin Chu, then Sage Mountain’s status would immediately rise significantly… As for his precious cabbage being taken?

    Let it be.

It was only a matter of time.

If she wasn’t taken by the Hero, she would be taken by someone else.

Zimmerman had come to terms with this. Since she was going to be taken anyway, it was better to choose the most outstanding one. And Natia seemed to be interested in the Hero, which could also benefit Sage Mountain.

“Master Zimmerman, have you forgotten about the Saintess of our Church of the Earth Mother Goddess? Inas is also a Grand Mage, not much weaker than Natia,” Saint Monique said with a gentle and charming smile.

Inas frowned slightly, seemingly unwilling, but she couldn’t refuse the Holy Maiden’s order.

Seeing the four factions competing for the last spot, engaging in “friendly exchanges” and “frankly exchanging opinions”…

Qin Chu scratched his head helplessly… Decorum, decorum!

You are the most powerful and noble people in the Heavenly Continent, aren’t your current actions a bit undignified?

After a long while, Qin Chu suddenly coughed, “Everyone, have you forgotten that there are several other people in my residence…”

“Angelica has been following me and serving me. She’s my most important maid. Whether I’m going out or doing anything else, I feel very uncomfortable without her by my side…”

“Princess Anastasia and I also have a very good relationship. We’ve become close friends, and it would make me very sad to suddenly part ways.”

“And Norma, Karsus’s ex-fiancée. As you all know, Norma also has the combat power of a Grand Mage. She even protected me during Karsus’s rampage.”

    Everyone was stunned.

What did the Hero mean by this?

Did he really intend to keep all the spots for his own people, not giving any benefits to others?

Seeing their various expressions, Qin Chu tapped his fingers lightly on the armrest of his chair, “Everyone, what I mean is…”

“Who said the Hero Squad can only have ten members?”

“Couldn’t it be eleven, or twenty-one?”

Couldn’t he just have them all?

    Hiss!

    Everyone gasped.

Carol, Shirley, Inas… even Natia, their expressions all turned strange.

Wadsworth blurted out, “Seriously? You want them all?”

    “Can your kidneys handle it?”

    Tsk.

Someone with over a hundred wives wasn’t qualified to say that.

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 189

    Chapter 189: Sylph’s Fear (Part 4)

    The Blissful Witch Society!

    What a terrible, obscene name.

Qin Chu could practically imagine the filth and depravity within… though, the Witches inside were probably quite attractive.

Such a dreadful place deserved to be thoroughly condemned.

Speaking of which, he had three Witches around him. Perhaps they could have a little competition to see who was the strongest.

Not just Qin Chu, but the three girls beside him also understood the nature of this society and the deity it worshipped upon hearing the name.

Angelica and Norma blushed, while Sylph spat on the ground, her disgust evident.

“The Blissful Witch Society…” Qin Chu narrowed his eyes, “Where is your organization’s headquarters located?”

Suddenly, Sylph, Angelica, and even Norma turned to look at him, their gazes filled with a strange mixture of emotions.

Qin Chu was puzzled. “Why are you looking at me like that? I was almost assassinated. It’s natural for me to want to know who tried to kill me, isn’t it?”

    A perfectly reasonable excuse.

Indeed, wanting to know the assassin’s origins was perfectly normal, but coming from the Hero’s mouth, it sounded a bit…odd.

“Alright, let me rephrase the question…”

“What kind of organization is the Blissful Witch Society?” Under Angelica and Norma’s gazes, Qin Chu backed down, a flicker of regret in his eyes.

Perhaps the illusions he had conjured in the assassin’s mind had terrified her, or perhaps she realized that continuing to hide was pointless.

A vast, mysterious, and terrifying organization gradually unfolded before Qin Chu.

The Blissful Witch Society was different from the Mage Association.

It was a hidden church, existing in the shadows for over a thousand years. They didn’t worship the Goddess of Holy Light or the Earth Mother Goddess, but another mysterious deity known as the Lord of Pleasure.

Its followers pursued ecstasy and sensual gratification with strangers, seeking spiritual enlightenment through hedonism.

They rejected all moral and legal constraints, indulging in extreme debauchery in the name of the Lord of Pleasure.

They would ruthlessly murder anyone who stood in their way. To pursue ultimate pleasure, they would do anything, regardless of societal norms.

The members of the Blissful Witch Society were all women, each bearing the title of “Witch.”

These Witches were different from the Witches Qin Chu understood.

Their criteria for selecting members were simple: beauty, a perfect figure, and either a high status or great strength.

Their members came from all corners of the Heavenly Continent: commoners, nobles, mages, warriors, assassins, knights… poets, artists…

The upper-class members would actively seek out lower-class believers to indulge in pleasure, while the lower-class believers found release in their shared ecstasy.

And this pleasure granted them boundless energy.

Qin Chu’s expression turned serious. This church’s influence was probably greater than he had imagined, especially in the open-minded Auville Empire, where the seeds of its beliefs could easily take root.

Among the noblewomen who had fled the Sykes Hotel last night, many were probably members of the Blissful Witch Society.

Suddenly, the woman in front of him became manic, her eyes filled with an uncontainable adoration.

“Our god has abandoned us for a thousand years…”

“But now, we have heard the call of the Lord of Pleasure once more. He hasn’t abandoned us. He will descend upon this world again and accept our worship and sacrifices.”

    “And you… are the sacrifice.”

Her crazed demeanor made Qin Chu’s scalp tingle.

This woman had revealed a crucial piece of information. It wasn’t the members of the Witch Society who wanted to kill him, but the deity they worshipped, the Lord of Pleasure, who had vanished for a thousand years and now suddenly returned.

Who was this guy? He had never heard of him before.

The thought of her god seemed to give the woman boundless courage. Ignoring the pain and blood on her chest and shoulder, she writhed and trembled, the clothes fork tearing at her flesh, the pain seemingly arousing her, a strange flush appearing on her face.

    “Hero…”

    “Just you wait.”

“You will never know how powerful your enemy is, the blade that will slit your throat will appear from the shadows…”

Her voice, like a curse, dripped with venom.

Qin Chu’s throat twitched. “Tell me,” he demanded, “who is your leader?”

Her eyes flickered with a strange light, and just as she opened her mouth to speak, her body tensed.

A heart-shaped pattern appeared on her face, flanked by thin, branching lines that resembled feathers or wings.

These lines, as if alive, spread rapidly across her body.

The next moment, she began to tremble violently.

Intense pain contorted her face, and thumb-sized blisters, filled with a rapidly spreading liquid, appeared all over her skin.

She opened her mouth to scream, but it was too late. Only a strange, gurgling gasp escaped her throat, similar blisters appearing inside her mouth.

Then, the blisters swelled and burst, covering her in a foul-smelling mucus.

    All signs of life vanished.

And that wasn’t all. Her already grotesque body began to rapidly decompose in the mucus, skin, flesh, and bone dissolving.

Within half a minute, only a puddle of slime remained.

Angelica, frightened, clutched Qin Chu’s clothes. Norma instinctively moved closer to him.

Even Sylph frowned, her face paling slightly.

With their strength, they shouldn’t be so afraid, but… this scene was too bizarre and disgusting.

It seemed that joining the Witch Society wasn’t just about pleasure. These members were all branded with a terrifying restriction. Normally, it was dormant, but if they tried to reveal any important information about the Blissful Witch Society, the restriction would activate, instantly ending their lives.

“What are you four doing here?” A sweet, clear voice suddenly came from behind them. “Huh? When did this wall appear?”

They turned and saw a petite figure in assassin’s garb and a voluptuous mage. It was Airi and Athena, who had left after breakfast.

Ekaterina could be seen a little further behind.

Athena, puzzled, saw the puddle of foul-smelling mucus in front of the earthen wall and pinched her nose in disgust, “What happened here? Why does it smell so bad?”

“Just a rat that rotted. Don’t worry about it,” Qin Chu shook his head, not explaining further.

As smart as she was, Athena knew it wasn’t just a dead rat, but she didn’t press the matter.

“By the way, Qin Chu, those four old geezers are looking for you…”

Sylph’s face fell. She had wanted to discuss further treatment with Qin Chu, but now she had to postpone it.

This meeting was held in the Imperial Palace.

The division of power was clearly visible.

Behind Wadsworth stood a young lady, presumably one of his daughters.

    Natia stood beside Zimmerman.

Beside Augustus were Loseweisse and another girl radiating a holy aura. Qin Chu even knew her name: Shirley Raglan!

One of the new Saintess candidates of the Holy See.

Her status was equivalent to Angelica’s before. The Saintess of the Holy See wasn’t a permanent position. When they reached the age of thirty, they were no longer eligible and had to retire, replaced by a new generation.

After the current Saintess was chosen, the next generation of candidates began their training.

Loseweisse’s face showed clear displeasure, directed at Shirley Raglan beside her. In the first playthrough, Qin Chu hadn’t interacted much with Shirley. They were merely acquaintances.

This girl had died mysteriously near the end of the war against the Demon Beasts. But at that time, people were celebrating their impending victory, and her death was quickly forgotten.

Saint Monique also smiled, a woman in an earth-yellow Saintess attire beside her. This was Inas Simon, the Saintess of the Church of the Earth Mother Goddess.

Her skin wasn’t as fair as Loseweisse’s, but had a slightly darker tone, which had its own unique charm.

This was another girl Qin Chu only knew by name, having had little interaction with her.

Besides these people, the other members of the Hero Squad who were in the Imperial City were also present.

Loseweisse glanced at Sylph with surprise. She sensed something was off about her companion.

The Ghost Archer seemed to have lost her usual arrogance. She was hunched over, not wearing her usual revealing leather armor, but a high-necked dress.

    Loseweisse couldn’t describe the feeling… She seemed…timid?

    This wasn’t like Sylph.

She wondered what had happened to her companion.

Could it be that she had been…violated by Qin Chu at the residence?

Then Loseweisse found the thought ridiculous. Although Sylph appeared elegant and gentle, her temper was even fiercer than Ekaterina’s.

If Qin Chu had dared to touch her, she would have definitely attacked him. Loseweisse was more worried that Sylph would harm Qin Chu, affecting their plan to resurrect Jie Luo.

Maybe it was just…that time of the month…

    Loseweisse dismissed the thought.

Sylph, on the other hand, breathed a sigh of relief. Loseweisse’s gaze had made her extremely uncomfortable.

Perhaps because of the strange marks on her body, Sylph felt that everyone in the hall was looking at her with suspicion. She felt uneasy, as if she might transform into a terrifying monster at any moment.

She just wanted this damned meeting to end quickly so she could receive the Hero’s treatment as soon as possible.

No matter what kind of treatment it was, she would accept it. Sylph just didn’t want to become like Karsus.

After Qin Chu and the others were seated, Wadsworth finally spoke with a smile, “Brother Qin, you were very tired after purifying Karsus yesterday. You should be resting today, but there’s an important matter we need to discuss as soon as possible.”

His hearty voice echoed through the hall. Even before Wadsworth said anything, the expressions of Athena, Sylph, Airi, and Loseweisse gradually darkened.

Because they all knew the purpose of this meeting.

Qin Chu seemed curious about the sudden summons and asked cooperatively, “What is it?”

    “It’s like this.”

“With the deaths of Benson and Karsus, there are two vacancies in the Hero Squad.”

“The Hero Squad is the Hero’s strongest support in the fight against the Demon Beasts. We can’t let these vacancies remain unfilled. So, we’ve discussed it and decided to select two outstanding and powerful individuals to become new members of the Hero Squad. What do you think?” Wadsworth said with a smile.

As expected, it was this matter.

Last time, when the Grand Prince arranged for Horn to provoke him, Wadsworth had already mentioned this, and they had even made a dirty deal.

However, even if they needed to add new members to the Hero Squad, looking at the candidates around him: a princess? A Saintess? A Saintess candidate? A beautiful Grand Mage from Sage Mountain?

    Why were they all women?

    Was he that obvious?

Was this about selecting new members for the Hero Squad, or choosing a harem for the Hero?

Of course, whether male or female, these people all had their own agendas, wanting to gain something from him. In that case, compared to men, Qin Chu still preferred beautiful women.

At least they were more pleasing to the eye.

Qin Chu’s gaze swept over the candidates, then he withdrew it, his voice filled with righteousness:

“As long as it’s beneficial to the Heavenly Continent, I have no objections. After all, I am the Hero, and I carry the future of the Heavenly Continent on my shoulders.”

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 188

Chapter 188: The Blissful Witch Society (Part 3)

Qin Chu looked at the furious woman before him and said with a cold smile, “Impersonating someone else is a shameful act, miss.”

“And even if you were impersonating someone else, I might have been interested in playing along. But you chose to impersonate my Angelica?”

    Disguise, transformation!

Qin Chu wasn’t the originator of these skills, but he was certainly an expert. He had seen through her disguise the moment he laid eyes on her. Did this woman really think she had fooled him?

Although Qin Chu wasn’t a true gentleman, he wasn’t indiscriminate in his tastes either.

Seeing this woman clutching a pillow and going crazy, Qin Chu almost laughed. Especially watching her drive her sharp claws through the pillow and into her own chest, screaming in pain, he couldn’t help but chuckle.

It was a good show, a clownish performance that amused him.

The only pity was that the pillow was ruined, soiled by this woman.

He knew that after the duel with the Grand Prince and the purification of Karsus, various forces would be targeting him, some seeking alliances, others seeking his death. This was normal… But he didn’t expect the first assassin to appear so soon.

Qin Chu praised his own willpower. This woman was clearly the type who could make a man lose his mind, and most would have succumbed to her charms, even if they saw through her disguise.

But he, Qin Chu, had no such vulgar desires. With his strong willpower, he had resisted the temptation, maintaining his purity.

He praised himself inwardly, then his expression turned dangerous.

This shameless method of disguising herself as Angelica to assassinate him angered Qin Chu. After all, Angelica was very important to him.

This felt like a desecration of Angelica.

“Alright, beautiful lady,” he said coldly, “now can you please tell me one thing? Who… are you?”

The woman’s face was contorted with rage.

She was skilled in the arts of seduction, knowing how to fully display her charms. Since completing her training, she had carried out hundreds of missions, never failing, whether it was a decisive general on the battlefield, a noble and elegant marquis, or even a member of the royal family.

In her eyes, all men were the same. No matter how elegant they appeared on the surface, no matter how strong they were, they were ultimately driven by their lower bodies. Faced with her temptation, any man would shed his disguise and revert to his primal instincts.

The Hero was also a man, and he would be no different.

But she hadn’t expected to be played by this man from the beginning.

Her anger made her look hideous.

She pulled out the glass magic lamp and smashed it on the floor, then pulled the claws from her chest.

    Pfft…

    Blood splattered on the bedsheets.

This gave Qin Chu a headache. My bed is stained now. Are you going to wash it?

The sexy, dominatrix-like woman ignored his annoyance and just stared at him. A long whip, covered in thorns, appeared in her hand… Well, now she truly looked like a queen… Of course, only in appearance. The difference in their aura was still vast.

At this moment, the door burst open.

Norma and Angelica appeared, their faces filled with panic. Angelica even screamed, “Master, that woman isn’t me…!”

Before she could finish, the mysterious woman’s eyes lit up, sensing an opportunity. She leaped from the bed and lunged towards Angelica.

Before reaching her, she flicked her wrist, and the whip, like a viper, snaked towards Angelica’s slender neck.

This woman was her only chance to escape.

Although she was confident in her strength, she still knew who she was facing.

He was the Hero, the one who had just defeated the Grand Prince and purified Karsus.

He carried the titles of Hero, Divine Emissary, Descending Angel, and more.

This man’s strength was definitely not to be underestimated. Even for her, defeating him would be very difficult, especially since there were many other experts in this residence. If she was surrounded, a quick death would be her best outcome.

But if she could take Angelica hostage, the situation would instantly reverse.

Everyone in the Heavenly Continent knew how much the Hero doted on this maid.

The whip was inches from Angelica’s neck. As soon as it wrapped around her, it would leave a bloody mark. A glint of excitement flashed in the woman’s eyes. She had known that this maid wasn’t very strong. This time, it was a sure win…

But just as she thought this, Angelica seemed to snap out of her shock, her expression turning serious. The next second, a holy white light erupted from her body.

It was as if she had become the Holy Light itself.

    Holy Light Protection!

A bright light enveloped Angelica and Norma like a shield, deflecting the black whip. The woman’s fingers trembled, almost losing her grip on the whip.

Her face was filled with surprise. This wasn’t what she knew. Wasn’t this maid supposed to be weak? What was going on?

Every step of this assassination had been frustrating.

But compared to the amateur assassins sent by the Grand Prince, this woman was much more professional. Seeing that taking Angelica hostage was impossible, she used the whip’s recoil to launch herself backwards, aiming to crash through the window and escape.

However, this unlucky assassin didn’t know how many experts resided in this residence.

Not to mention Qin Chu himself, and Violet and Anthea.

Even though Ekaterina and Athena were out, and Airi was nowhere to be seen, there were still Sylph and Norma, two powerful level 80+ experts.

A mere level 70 assassin, although her strength was decent, how could she possibly escape from these two?

The woman crashed through the window, her toes landing nimbly on the windowsill. She spread her arms like a large bird and glided away.

She was very fast, like a gust of wind, flying over the residence. Just as she was about to escape, a triumphant smile appeared on her face.

But at this moment, with a boom, a wall of earth erupted from the ground in front of her.

Caught off guard, she couldn’t dodge and slammed into the earthen wall, dazed and disoriented. Before she could fall, a sharp arrow whizzed towards her.

With a piercing shriek, it pierced through her shoulder, pinning her to the wall. Looking closely, it wasn’t an arrow at all, but a clothes fork.

Blood gushed from her shoulder and chest.

Her falling body tore at the wound, intensifying the pain, her face contorted. But her willpower was strong. Even in this miserable state, she didn’t scream, her hand struggling to pull out the clothes fork embedded in her shoulder.

Norma and Sylph emerged from the room. Being besieged by two level 80+ experts, the assassin must feel a sense of… pride?

Qin Chu and Angelica followed. Qin Chu was surprised by Angelica’s strength. It seemed that her recent training with Violet had yielded considerable results. She was much stronger than when she first came to him.

Looking at the woman writhing on the wall like a worm, Qin Chu felt a flicker of pity. “Why bother?” he asked, “If you had just answered my questions honestly, you wouldn’t have to suffer like this.”

“What if the wound had been a little deeper and scarred your beautiful face? Wouldn’t that be a waste?”

“So, can you answer my questions now? Who are you, and who sent you to kill me?” Qin Chu’s tone was calm, without a hint of anger.

He was even smiling, but that smile made the woman’s scalp tingle.

“Of course, you can choose not to answer, but you’ll have to bear the consequences yourself. I believe you won’t want to experience that.”

As he spoke, Qin Chu walked towards the woman.

He tilted his head and thought for a moment, “Perhaps it would be better to let you experience it beforehand?”

He placed his hand on her forehead, and the next second, endless illusions flooded her mind.

Bloody, terrifying images played out before her eyes.

Her beautiful face, her pride, was carved with countless wounds, her body torn apart, white worms wriggling through her flesh and bone, her soul burning in demonic flames…

The pain seemed to manifest physically.

Even with her strong willpower, she couldn’t withstand Qin Chu’s incredibly realistic illusions. Her body trembled with fear, her face pale as death.

When Qin Chu removed his hand, her eyes were vacant, saliva dripping from her lips, her body convulsing uncontrollably.

    “Now, tell me…”

“What’s your name, and where do you come from?” Qin Chu’s voice echoed in her ears like a ghost’s.

The woman shuddered, looking at him as if he were the most ferocious monster.

“Answer my questions, or I guarantee you, the pain you will experience will be ten times worse than what you just saw…”

As Qin Chu’s cold voice echoed, and his hand reached out again, the woman’s will completely crumbled.

    She screamed, “I’ll tell you…”

    “I’m from…”

    “The Blissful Witch Society!”

    The Blissful Witch Society?

The name didn’t sound like a good place… Qin Chu really wanted to ask for their address and if there were any requirements for becoming a member.

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 187

Chapter 187: Two Angelicas? (Part 2)

Sylph stared suspiciously at the corner of the staircase where Angelica had disappeared.

The elf shook her head. She wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. Although she felt a strange, inexplicable unease, she didn’t dwell on it. She had enough on her mind. After cleaning herself, she sat on the bed, pondering the three treatment options Qin Chu had offered.

The third option was absolutely out of the question. That was a line she couldn’t cross.

She had already tried the first option, and although it had some effect, it didn’t seem very effective.

As for the second option… if it could free her from this torment, perhaps she could endure it… Sylph picked up a mirror as she thought.

Ever since she discovered those marks on her neck, she couldn’t help but touch and examine them, hoping it was just a nightmare, that they would disappear when she looked in the mirror again.

    But wishes were just wishes.

Sylph’s pupils constricted, and her body trembled slightly. The marks, which had faded slightly after the first treatment, had returned to their original color… No, they were even darker now.

Could this be a sign that the Evil God’s corruption was worsening?

Fear washed over her. The marks weren’t very noticeable yet, but if they continued to darken… If the Holy See discovered her corruption, they might not even wait for her to transform into a monster, they would execute her immediately.

They wouldn’t allow a second Karsus.

    Creak!

The door to Qin Chu’s bedroom opened.

Angelica’s familiar fragrance filled the room.

Exhausted from purifying Karsus and administering Sylph’s first treatment, Qin Chu lay in bed, seemingly asleep.

But the alluring scent roused him, and he opened his eyes drowsily. Seeing the graceful figure at the door, a smile appeared on his tired face.

    “Ange, it’s you…”

Angelica seemed to possess a special magic. No matter how tired he was, seeing her always lifted his spirits.

A seductive glint flickered in Angelica’s soft, golden eyes. She walked towards him, her hips swaying, her every move radiating an alluring charm.

A smile played on her lips, her eyes filled with a silken enticement. Her pink lips, seemingly shimmering with a strange light, spoke in a sweet, melodious voice:

“Master, what would you like for lunch today…?”

There was something different about Angelica today, even more alluring. Her simple question made Qin Chu’s heart race. He had just been with Sylph, yet he felt a surge of desire.

He reached out to her. “I want something else right now,” he said, his voice husky.

The innocent Angelica seemed to understand his meaning instantly.

Her face flushed crimson, her eyes clouding with a misty desire. She gave him a seductive glance, then swayed towards him, sitting on his lap, her soft body pressing against his.

Up close, her allure was even more intoxicating.

    They embraced.

In the training grounds, Violet and Anthea patiently instructed Angelica and Anastasia.

Even Karen was imitating Sister Angelica, sitting cross-legged on the ground with her eyes closed, seemingly trying to sense the surrounding elemental energy.

But this position was too uncomfortable for a child. After a while, Karen’s legs went numb, and she stood up with a grimace.

Violet glanced at her with a fond smile. She had taught Karen some basic magic, but it was too difficult for a child who couldn’t even read properly.

Karen was smart, but Violet had tested her. She didn’t have much talent in magic.

Even if she cultivated diligently, her achievements wouldn’t be very high. But it should be enough for her to protect herself.

Violet turned her attention to Angelica, who seemed to be enveloped in a milky white light, her figure hazy and dreamlike.

A dense Mana swirled around her, forming a vortex and flowing into her body.

When all the surrounding Mana was absorbed, she suddenly opened her eyes. A silver glint flickered in her soft, golden eyes for a few seconds before fading.

Taking a deep breath, Angelica stood up. She could feel that her Mana had completely recovered to its pre-sealed level, even stronger. This improvement pleased her greatly.

Although there was still a large gap between her and her master, she was getting closer, step by step.

Glancing at the sun outside, Angelica stuck out her tongue slightly. “Oops, I was so focused on cultivating that I forgot the time…”

“Miss Anastasia, please continue your training. I’ll go prepare lunch.”

She nodded at Anastasia, who was currently struggling to lift a heavy spear, drenched in sweat, then bid farewell to Anthea and Violet and hurried towards the hall.

In the hall, Norma, seemingly bored, had tidied up everything, making the place spotless.

This made Angelica feel a little embarrassed. After all, as the only maid in the residence, this was her job.

“Norma, I’m so sorry,” Angelica said apologetically, “Cleaning the house is my responsibility.”

Norma wiped the sweat from her forehead and smiled gently, “It’s okay, Angelica. Compared to Mr. Qin’s kindness in taking me in and giving me a place to stay, this is nothing.”

After a slight pause, a surprised look appeared on Norma’s face, “By the way, Angelica, when did you come down? Didn’t you go upstairs to ask Mr. Qin what he wanted for lunch?”

Angelica was stunned. “How could that be? I’ve been at the training grounds, receiving Miss Violet’s guidance and cultivating magic. I just arrived.”

    “But I clearly saw you…”

Before Norma could finish her sentence, both girls’ faces changed.

    Two Angelicas?

The next second, without any hesitation, they both rushed upstairs.

    This was bad.

Upstairs, in Qin Chu’s bedroom, the two figures were locked in an embrace.

“Angelica” held Qin Chu’s head tightly, her soft and supple body straddling him.

The intense feeling of fullness made her eyes flicker with a strange light. This man was truly vigorous. If it weren’t for the mission, she wouldn’t want it to end so soon.

Her eyes had turned a purplish-red at some point, two strange arcs forming a heart shape in her pupils, with thin, wing-like patterns extending from the sides.

The small hand that had been caressing Qin Chu’s back had transformed into sharp claws.

A cold smile played on her lips.

The next second, her claws plunged towards Qin Chu’s heart.

    Pfft!

The sound of claws piercing through flesh.

    Then, a shrill scream.

But strangely, it was a woman’s scream.

It wasn’t coming from Qin Chu, but from “Angelica.”

The woman stared in disbelief. Her claws had pierced through a pillow and into her own chest, blood gushing out, staining the once-white pillow crimson.

The intense pain disrupted her Mana control, and her face began to shift and change, accompanied by strange crackling sounds.

A few seconds later, her appearance and figure completely transformed.

She was no longer the innocent and beautiful Angelica, but a seductive figure, like a Witch.

Her perfectly curvy body was clad in a sexy, tight-fitting leather outfit… or rather, it could hardly be called clothing, barely covering her vital parts.

Her long, fair legs were almost completely exposed, her purplish-red hair cascading down her back. Her face wasn’t particularly beautiful, but it held a strange, captivating allure.

She wore black high heels. If she had a whip in her hand, she would be the perfect dominatrix!

But now, her face was twisted in a mask of rage and pain, looking as terrifying as a vengeful ghost.

So, she hadn’t been with the Hero at all, but with a damned pillow?

The thought made her lips tremble with humiliation.

This damned man had been playing her all along… using that damned illusion.

She turned abruptly and saw a figure leaning lazily against the wall, arms crossed, a mocking smile on his face.

As she glared at him, the hateful man even raised a hand in a casual wave:

    “Hi…”

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 186

Chapter 186: As Long as I Don’t Cross the Line, It’s Fine (Part 1)

Anthony, sitting opposite Athena, fell into deep thought upon hearing her question.

After a long while, he slowly replied, “Injured souls are very difficult to heal. The most common method is to nourish them with abundant Mana, which takes a long time. I’ve never heard of the method you mentioned.”

    Athena frowned slightly.

“However, I won’t deny the possibility.”

“Precisely because of the mysterious and special nature of the soul, it has infinite possibilities.”

“Forgive me, I don’t have a wife, so I don’t quite understand that feeling. But I’ve heard that after the act, one’s mind enters a tranquil state. That seems to be the influence and sublimation of the soul.”

“The fusion of spirit and desire, that should be what it means.”

“So, although I haven’t heard of it, I think this method makes sense.”

Athena nodded. Indeed, every time after being with Qin Chu, her consciousness seemed to enter a strange state. Perhaps it was this special state that was restoring Lord Jie Luo’s remnant soul.

“Then, besides this method, are there any other ways to quickly heal a damaged soul?” Athena quickly asked again.

A strange look appeared in Anthony’s eyes. He stared at Athena, as if trying to confirm her intentions. “Miss Athena, may I ask what you’re researching souls for? Could it be that a friend of yours has suffered soul damage?”

Athena smiled faintly, “How could that be? I’m just curious. I read in this book that once, a powerful mage’s soul was almost completely destroyed by his enemy, but he eventually recovered.”

Athena raised the book in her hand, “So I’m curious, can such a mysterious thing as the soul really be restored so easily?”

The suspicion in Anthony’s eyes dissipated slightly, “I’ve read this book too. I advise you not to look for books about souls here. They’re all nonsense.”

“The only way to quickly restore a damaged soul is to refine the souls of others.”

“Forcefully extract the souls of other people, and they must be living people, then refine them into pure soul energy through special methods and infuse it into the damaged soul.”

“This is a very cruel method, and it requires extremely powerful strength. A mere remnant soul can’t do it.”

    Athena understood.

Lord Jie Luo didn’t tell her about this method because he didn’t want her and Ekaterina to harm others for him. What a kind person.

Then, if it was Qin Chu’s soul, would that be okay?

After all, that guy was a complete bastard.

Athena thought to herself that she would discuss this with Lord Jie Luo next time he awakened, to see if it was possible to refine Qin Chu’s soul.

It was also a way to make use of waste.

His body could be used as a vessel for Lord Jie Luo’s rebirth, and his soul could be used as nourishment for his soul’s recovery. It would be an honor for Qin Chu, wouldn’t it?

Having finally encountered someone who had some research on souls, Athena naturally wouldn’t let go of this opportunity. She talked with Anthony for a long time, asking him many questions about souls, including soul fragments, and Anthony answered them one by one based on his understanding.

He was a very generous mage, not minding sharing his knowledge with others.

“Soul fragments… Actually, the amount of remnant soul and memory that a single soul fragment can store is very limited. At this point, it can’t even be considered a normal soul, like a simple-minded person among humans.”

“If you gather all the soul fragments, it will naturally accelerate the recovery of the remnant soul.”

“If some are missing, and you use the method I mentioned, although the soul can still recover, it’s hard to say whether it will still be the same person, because too much of other people’s souls will have been integrated into it.”

Anthony’s words frightened Athena. Didn’t this mean that even if Lord Jie Luo was resurrected one day, he might not be the same Lord Jie Luo anymore? At least, not completely.

“And if it’s a remnant soul residing in another person’s body, it’s very difficult to replace the host’s soul. After all, it’s just an incomplete fragment, not very strong. It’s more likely to be absorbed by the host. Even if it’s a very powerful remnant soul, it will at most merge with the host’s soul. As for who will be in control, it depends on which soul is stronger.”

These words frightened Athena even more, and goosebumps appeared on her skin.

Although she was certain that Lord Jie Luo’s strength and soul were definitely stronger than Qin Chu’s, it was still just a remnant soul now.

And that guy Qin Chu, his strength was increasing at a terrifying rate, and his soul would also grow stronger along with it. Sooner or later, Qin Chu would discover that another soul was residing within his body… What would he do then?

Expel Lord Jie Luo’s soul from his body, or even devour and absorb it?

Even if their souls merged, and Lord Jie Luo’s will dominated, Athena still found it hard to accept. She couldn’t tolerate any other impurities within his soul.

Athena quickly calculated in her mind. It seemed that the most urgent task now was to find the other soul fragments of Lord Jie Luo as soon as possible so that his remnant soul could become stronger.

And then… help him recover through… intimate contact.

Although she hated Qin Chu, Athena had no other choice now. She had been neglecting Lord Jie Luo’s recovery these past few days because she was busy researching souls. This was simply unacceptable.

However, one of Anthony’s statements made Athena suspicious.

The amount of remnant soul and memory that a single soul fragment could store was very limited?

    Like a simple-minded person?

But Lord Jie Luo didn’t seem like that at all.

    He seemed completely normal.

Could it be because Lord Jie Luo was simply too powerful?

An inexplicable fear arose in Athena’s heart.

    Meanwhile, Sylph’s treatment was over.

    She was brushing her teeth.

Looking at her reflection in the mirror, Sylph couldn’t help but smile wryly. She looked truly pathetic.

She was an elf, the Ghost Archer.

But look at her now, pale, haggard, her hair a mess… Her ears were red. That bastard Qin Chu had kept pinching them, which annoyed her greatly.

The only consolation was that the treatment seemed to be somewhat effective. The two marks below her collarbone seemed to have faded slightly.

According to Qin Chu, he had cleansed a part of the evil from her body… Although it was probably a very small part, it was at least a glimmer of hope.

When she asked why he hadn’t cleansed it all at once, Qin Chu had looked at her as if she were an idiot, “Think about what just happened. You almost died. Do you want to experience that again?”

Even now, just thinking about it made Sylph tremble. That feeling was too terrifying. She didn’t want to try it again, it could really kill her.

But at this rate, just to cleanse the Evil God’s mark on her body alone, who knew how many treatments she would need? Dozens? Hundreds?

Recalling the feeling, Sylph felt the urge to vomit. It was truly terrible. She didn’t know how Ekaterina had endured it. Was it just a matter of getting used to it?

And there was the even more troublesome mark on her soul… Thinking about this, Sylph felt a sense of despair.

She stopped brushing her teeth, biting her lip, and shook her head. She couldn’t be so discouraged. Compared to before, this was already a good result, wasn’t it?

At least, her body was still relatively pure. She still had a chance to stay by Lord Jie Luo’s side… probably.

A mocking smile appeared on her face. People could become truly pathetic just to survive… But she would definitely stick to her bottom line.

At this moment, Sylph suddenly sensed something, and she frowned, quickly spitting out the foam in her mouth, rinsing, and wiping her face and hair with a towel as she walked outside.

Opening the door, she saw a tall figure in the corridor.

She wore a neat maid outfit, her long, shapely legs, encased in white stockings, visible beneath her black and white skirt.

Emerald hair, similar to Sylph’s, swayed gently behind her.

    It was Angelica!

    Qin Chu’s maid.

The woman with the highest status in the entire residence.

Although she was just a maid, and she never acted like the mistress of the house, always respectful towards Princess Anastasia and Miss Violet, everyone in the residence knew that she was the woman Qin Chu doted on the most. No one would underestimate her because of her status as a maid.

Before she and Airi moved into the residence, both Ekaterina and Athena had warned them not to offend Angelica. The consequences would be severe.

Thinking of this, although she looked down on a lowly maid, Sylph still forced a smile and nodded at Angelica as a greeting.

And what made Sylph feel even stranger was that she felt a sense of kinship with Angelica. Could it be because their hair was both green?

But to Sylph’s surprise, the little maid just glanced at her coldly, then looked away with disinterest, completely ignoring her and walking straight upstairs, seemingly to find Qin Chu.

    Hiss…

Sylph, who was wiping her hair and face, shivered. She was just a lowly maid, what was with her attitude?

Did she think she could do whatever she wanted just because she had the Hero’s favor?

Just you wait, your unlucky day will come. When Qin Chu loses interest in you, let’s see what you have left to be arrogant about.

Sylph glared at Angelica’s back, watching her walk upstairs. She must be going to find Qin Chu, right? That bitch, she must be going to do those dirty things again. Wasn’t it just because of her shameless body that she gained the Hero’s favor?

If she, Sylph, was willing to lose her purity to Qin Chu, would there even be a chance for a little maid like her to be arrogant?

Sylph sneered inwardly. She remembered Qin Chu’s words. She had chosen the least effective treatment method. The other two would be more effective…

If it continued like this, who knew when it would end? The long and agonizing process also made Sylph feel uncomfortable, and there was no guarantee that her condition wouldn’t suddenly worsen.

Should she try the second method?

As long as she didn’t cross the line, it would be fine, although she felt it was very dirty.

Sylph watched Angelica’s figure disappear around the corner of the stairs, muttering in her heart, Come to think of it… this maid seems a bit strange today.

    Chapter 185: Sylph’s First Treatment

    A wise decision.

    This wasn’t sarcasm.

It was the truth. In the Heavenly Continent, no one but Qin Chu could cleanse the Evil God’s corruption. If Sylph didn’t want to become a monster like Karsus, accepting Qin Chu’s suggestion was her only option.

    And the sooner, the better.

Although Sylph’s corruption seemed to be in its early stages, there was no guarantee that it wouldn’t suddenly worsen. Sylph couldn’t afford to gamble. It was good that she could make such a quick decision.

However, could she please not look like she was about to be martyred?

It made him feel like a villain.

Qin Chu complained inwardly, a smile on his face, “Miss Sylph, it’s wonderful that you can trust me.”

“So, which taint do you want to cleanse first? Your soul or your body?”

    The soul was too dangerous.

“The body,” Sylph replied, biting her lip.

    As expected.

Qin Chu took off his coat and hat, hanging them on the coat rack, then turned to face Sylph. This simple action seemed to frighten her, and her shoulders slumped.

He saw fear in her beautiful eyes.

Sylph raised her hand, “Hero, do I… do I also have to… take off my clothes?”

Qin Chu then noticed that Sylph seemed to know what was about to happen and had changed her clothes. She wasn’t wearing her usual tight-fitting leather armor, but a light green dress.

As an elf, in this light green dress, she looked like a fairy dancing in the forest… No matter how much Qin Chu despised her soul, he had to admit that her appearance was truly stunning.

“I don’t want to start with internal purification just yet…”

“Let’s try external cleansing first. What if it works? So you only need to take off your outer layer,” Qin Chu said, his expression a bit strange.

Sylph’s mouth opened slightly. She wanted to slap herself. Why had she bothered to change? She wasn’t used to wearing dresses. She had been overthinking while alone in her room, feeling a strange sense of shame in her archer’s attire, so she had changed into a dress she usually only wore for banquets.

And now, it turned out to be like this.

Why didn’t you say so earlier?

Sylph complained inwardly. She wanted to go back and change.

“Perhaps you’d like to change, Miss Sylph?” Qin Chu offered.

Now that he had said it, Sylph couldn’t leave.

She had finally mustered the courage to make this decision. If she went back now, she might not have the same courage again. Moreover, she also felt that external treatment probably wouldn’t be effective, and she would have to do this in the end anyway.

“It’s okay, let’s just do it,” Sylph said, taking a deep breath.

Then, her hands reached for the straps of her green dress, and the thin fabric slid down her fair skin, pooling at her feet. She stood before him in her undergarments, her hands instinctively covering her chest.

She had expected his gaze to ravage her body, but to her surprise, Qin Chu’s expression was serious.

    “Miss Sylph, please respect me.”

“Right now, I’m just a doctor treating a patient. I won’t have any inappropriate thoughts. You can rest assured.”

Seeing his serious demeanor, Sylph couldn’t help but think, Really? I don’t believe you!

“How are you going to treat me?” she asked, suppressing her anxiety.

“It’s very simple,” Qin Chu smiled slightly and stepped closer. Sylph shrank back, practically curling into a ball.

“Don’t be afraid, relax. And you’re covering yourself, how am I supposed to treat you?” Qin Chu said, amused.

Sylph stuck out her tongue slightly, berating herself inwardly for her uselessness. She had already made up her mind and prepared herself, yet she was still trembling and hesitant. It was so unlike her. She took a deep breath, straightened her back, and lowered her hands. “Let’s do it,” she said.

Qin Chu nodded silently and walked up to her.

His fingertips traced the mark below her collarbone.

Goosebumps instantly appeared on Sylph’s skin, and her body trembled slightly, but she quickly suppressed it with her willpower.

Where his fingers touched, a silver-white light gradually emerged, the power of Holy Light.

Purer than the Holy See’s Holy Light, and also more potent.

The moment it appeared, it seemed to sense the evil within Sylph. The silver-white flames flickered and danced on the mark.

The flames weren’t large, but to Sylph, it felt like being thrown into a volcano. An unbearable heat surged through her body, as if she had touched a high-voltage wire. With a crackle, she was thrown backwards, crashing against the wall and falling to the ground.

    Her body convulsed in pain.

Her face was deathly pale, covered in sweat, her eyes rolling back, and white foam appeared at the corners of her mouth.

    Good and evil were irreconcilable.

Although the Evil God’s mark was branded on the soul, it manifested on the body. Qin Chu’s Holy Light, carrying a sliver of his consciousness, penetrated through the mark on her collarbone, directly touching her soul.

The moment the two opposing forces clashed, a terrifying energy erupted.

Perhaps it was fortunate that neither the Evil God’s mark within Sylph nor Qin Chu’s Holy Light was particularly strong. Otherwise, her body might have been torn apart.

Qin Chu quickly walked over and gently lifted Sylph, placing her on the bed.

Sylph gasped for breath. After a long time, she finally managed to endure the excruciating pain, but her fingers were still trembling, unable to move.

Just now, she had felt as if two powerful beings were battling fiercely within her body, using her as their battlefield. She thought she was going to die.

“I’m sorry,” Qin Chu said, his face filled with apology, “I didn’t expect the evil within you to resist so fiercely.”

“It seems that external cleansing is impossible…”

Sylph tried to calm her body’s reactions. That moment of agony had shown her just how terrifying the Evil God’s will within her was. If she couldn’t completely purify it, she would eventually become like Karsus. She would rather die than become such a monstrous creature.

    “Hero, please…” she whispered.

“I understand. Then, it’s your choice. We have three options. You can choose one of them, or all three…” Qin Chu’s tone was light.

“Of course, for me, it’s the same no matter which option you choose, Miss Sylph!”

    Three? Sylph was puzzled.

Meanwhile, Athena sat in the VIP room of the Auville Imperial Library.

The table before her was piled high with books.

What is the Soul? Soul Research, The Mysteries of the Soul

Almost all of them were related to souls.

Qin Chu’s speculation was wrong. Athena didn’t doubt his performance, nor did she doubt what “Lord Jie Luo” had told her.

But she felt that even with her and Ekaterina’s help, it would still take more than ten years for him to recover. This was too long a time for Athena to endure.

She believed there must be other ways to help Lord Jie Luo recover faster.

Athena had been researching souls these past few days…

However, the people of the Heavenly Continent preferred to pursue direct and effective power. They weren’t very interested in such abstract and mysterious things as souls.

After all, no matter how thoroughly you researched souls, it wouldn’t immediately grant you great power.

Even Athena hadn’t studied this aspect much before. Although she had found many books now, most of them were just legends and myths. Although she had been studying for many days, her eyes ached, and she was mentally exhausted. She didn’t know how many strands of hair she had lost, but she had gained almost nothing.

“Eh? Miss Athena, are you also researching souls?” A voice suddenly came from the door just as Athena was about to give up.

The exhausted Athena looked up in a daze. When she saw the old man at the door, a faint smile appeared on her face. “So it’s Master Anthony. I apologize for my appearance.”

    Anthony Holson!

The President of the Mage Association, and also Norma’s mentor.

The Mage Association wasn’t an official organization, but a private group formed by those who loved to study magic. Its members were all obsessed with magic.

Perhaps their individual strength wasn’t very strong, but they always came up with some strange and novel ideas.

What they liked to do most was research magic in all aspects… For example, inventing new magic, modifying existing magic, and so on…

Once, an excellent mage invented a brand new magic that could manipulate the rapid rotation of water flow, making clothes wash faster and cleaner.

Another mage had been working hard to modify the small fireball spell, hoping that it could explode upon hitting its target, causing secondary damage… He succeeded, but at the cost of three fingers.

And this Mr. Anthony in front of her had once spent six years shortening the incantation of a Super-tier magic spell by one word… One word less in that long incantation, it was…subtle.

Glancing at the books on the table, Athena smiled, “As you know, mages always want to explore things they don’t usually come into contact with.”

“Recently, I’ve been interested in souls.”

The smile on Anthony’s face widened, as if he had found a kindred spirit. “That’s wonderful…”

“Miss Athena, I also have some research on souls. I once studied them for over a decade. Perhaps we can exchange our knowledge.”

If other men said such words, Athena might think they had ulterior motives, but not Anthony. She knew that this was a man obsessed with magic to an astonishing degree.

Magic was his lover, and his staff was his mistress…

“Really? That’s great,” Athena smiled, “Please have a seat. By the way, Master Anthony… I saw something in a book.”

“It said that through sexual intercourse, the soul can be nourished, and injured souls can recover faster. Is this true?”
