Chapter 224: A Witch’s Kiss Is Quite Nice

The spear shot out like a meteor.

The same spear that Eldritch had thrown, now flying back at him with even greater speed.

The three high-ranking Demon Beasts behind Eldritch, one level 80 and two level 79, were quite strong, but they couldn’t even track the spear’s trajectory. Only Eldritch, the strongest among them, could barely follow its movement, but it still seemed to teleport, its speed impossible to match.

This alone was enough for Eldritch to realize that this man was far more powerful than he had imagined.

He wanted to dodge, but he didn’t want to lose face in front of Ireta.

Gritting his teeth, Eldritch stepped forward, his large hand reaching out to catch the incoming spear.

    He actually caught it.

    Hiss… Hum!

The moment his hand made contact, a powerful force surged through the spear.

Eldritch’s expression changed. He felt a burning sensation in his palm as the spear rotated, its tip inching closer to his heart.

He stumbled backwards uncontrollably, his golden boots digging deep furrows in the ground. His back slammed against a tree, shattering it.

After retreating for dozens of meters, he roared, stomping his foot on the ground, creating a mound of earth behind him, his leg stiffening as he braced against the spear’s force.

The spearhead was almost touching the armor on his chest.

A long crack appeared on the hard armor, the spear almost piercing his heart.

Dark red blood dripped from the spearhead. The scales and skin on Eldritch’s palm had been torn, and the silver-white flames on the spearhead seared the wound, turning it black.

Excruciating pain shot through his body.

Damn it… How is this possible?

Eldritch was shocked. He had wanted to teach this arrogant human a lesson in front of Ireta, not taking him seriously at all, confident in his victory.

But now, he suddenly realized that this man was far stronger than he had imagined.

He was at a disadvantage from the very beginning.

Being injured in front of Ireta humiliated him, especially considering his previous arrogant boasts.

Eldritch was furious, his body trembling with rage.

He would retaliate, he would prove his strength.

However, Eldritch had forgotten one thing.

He might be unscrupulous and disregard the rules of knightly combat, but Qin Chu was no different.

Moreover, Qin Chu was in a foul mood and just wanted to beat someone up. He didn’t care about any rules.

And his opponent was a Demon Beast prince. Why bother with rules against a Demon Beast?

    Evil must be eradicated.

Qin Chu, empowered by Rage Explosion, was incredibly powerful.

He was practically unstoppable. Although Eldritch was level 90, he had just reached that level. Compared to Qin Chu, who had the rich combat experience from his previous life, they weren’t on the same level at all.

At this moment, Eldritch saw a strange smile on Qin Chu’s face.

That smile made his hair stand on end.

An inexplicable fear filled him, and he instinctively wanted to drop the spear.

At the same time, Qin Chu snapped his fingers.

    Snap!

    “Explode!”

With the sound of his fingers snapping, the spear in Eldritch’s hand exploded.

The energy that had been infused into the spear erupted like a powerful bomb, sending scorching shards of metal flying in all directions, tearing through the air with a hissing sound.

Eldritch, being closest, bore the brunt of the explosion, his body sent flying. Countless metal fragments pierced through his silver armor.

The penetrating power was so great that even his specially forged armor couldn’t withstand it.

Blood seeped from beneath his armor.

And even worse, many fragments flew towards his face.

His handsome face was instantly mangled, covered in blood.

    His face was ruined.

Well, Qin Chu didn’t like that face anyway.

And a fragment even pierced Eldritch’s left eye… Although he quickly closed his eyes, the Mana within his body churning, the sharp fragment still tore through his hastily erected defense, piercing his eyelid and entering his eye.

The excruciating pain made Eldritch scream.

Even he couldn’t withstand such an injury.

Too weak, Qin Chu thought, watching him, shaking his head.

Even at the same level 90, Eldritch’s combat power was fundamentally different from Wadsworth and those other old monsters.

Those old geezers had far more experience. Most importantly, they were cunning and wouldn’t be so arrogant in battle, wouldn’t leave themselves so exposed.

Eldritch was incredibly talented, his progress rapid, but this talent had also made him arrogant, and this arrogance was his greatest weakness.

And once Qin Chu seized upon this weakness, he wouldn’t give him a chance.

    Whoosh…

Before Eldritch could recover from the pain, Qin Chu appeared before him, grabbed his neatly combed hair, and lifted him into the air.

Then, with a resounding crash, he slammed him into the ground.

Qin Chu held nothing back in this fight, every move filled with power.

Eldritch’s back slammed against the earth, the impact shattering the surrounding trees, creating a clearing dozens of meters wide.

He spat out a mouthful of blood.

Before he could even catch his breath, Qin Chu stomped on his stomach.

His tall body curled up like a shrimp, the ground beneath him cracking. The intense pain made his mouth form an “O,” and then, his nose was hit by a fist, his head slamming back against the ground.

    Bang… Bang… Bang…

Eldritch’s body became a punching bag, enduring Qin Chu’s relentless assault.

Fists, wreathed in silver flames, rained down on his face… or rather, on his nose.

He focused on Eldritch’s nose, the bone quickly shattering.

Blood and mucus poured from his mangled nose, covering his face.

The fight, which had initially seemed like a clash between two powerful warriors, had devolved into a brutal street brawl… every punch landing with sickening force.

But the three high-ranking Demon Beasts behind them, and even Ireta, didn’t underestimate their conflict. The dark energy surging from Eldritch was enough to kill weaker beings, and even the sound of his roars could shatter the minds of ordinary experts. Every one of Qin Chu’s punches carried enough power to shake the earth, sending shockwaves rippling outwards.

Layers of earth were torn up and blown away by the force of the impact.

Throughout the entire process, Eldritch had no chance to retaliate, constantly suppressed by Qin Chu from the very beginning. He could endure the physical pain, but the humiliation, the spiritual and mental anguish, was unbearable, especially being beaten like this in front of Ireta. It almost drove him mad.

He howled like a beast, his remaining eye fixated on Qin Chu with venomous hatred, “Bastard…”

    “You dare to hit me?”

“I am the Second Prince of the Demon Beasts…”

    “The future Demon King…”

    Bang!

Before he could finish, Qin Chu’s fist, wreathed in silver Battle Qi, smashed into his mouth.

The force, enough to shatter a mountain, broke several of Eldritch’s teeth, sending them flying along with blood and saliva.

    His howls were cut short.

For Qin Chu, this was catharsis.

Eldritch was simply unlucky to have encountered him in such a foul mood.

He grabbed Eldritch by the hair, lifting his massive head, “Tell me, what is a Second Prince to me?”

Then… with a bang, he slammed Eldritch’s head against the ground.

    A large crater appeared.

    “The future Demon King? You?”

    “Such a weak Demon King!”

Then, his expression turned strange, and he leaned close to Eldritch’s ear, whispering, “Hey, Eldritch, let me tell you something…”

    “A Witch’s kiss… is quite nice.”

He wasn’t talking about Ireta, after all, he had only kissed her lips.

He just wanted to inflict pain on Eldritch, not just physical, but also mental.

It brought him a strange sense of pleasure.

But these words made Eldritch howl like a madman, his face contorted in agony. This was the most cruel, the most vicious attack.

    Ahhhhhhh…

    His screams were heart-wrenching.

“Kill him… Kill him…” Eldritch roared, ordering his three subordinates.

He had to kill this man, no matter the cost. Kill him, kill him, kill him!

With his command, the Harpy, the Snake Spirit, and the Raging Ape exchanged glances, then charged towards Qin Chu simultaneously.

They also feared his power, but they couldn’t disobey the Second Prince’s orders. They couldn’t just watch him be beaten to death.

The Harpy spread its wings, its sharp claws aimed at Qin Chu’s head.

The Snake Spirit opened its mouth, and a cloud of green venom spread around it.

The Raging Ape beat its chest with its massive fists, its huge body charging towards Qin Chu like a bulldozer.

Qin Chu glanced at the three Demon Beasts, a cold smile appearing on his lips.

These were three good experience packs.

    “Anthea…”

He muttered, his voice almost manic, and flicked his wrist.

Three spear shadows shot out from his palm.

    Anthea’s power.

The sharp spearheads instantly pierced through the Harpy in the air, and the chests of the Raging Ape and Snake Spirit on the ground.

Their bodies were pinned to the earth, and as they struggled, dark red chains erupted from the spear shadows, binding them tightly.

Qin Chu pressed his hand against the ground, and the Devourer extended its countless tentacles, covering the three high-ranking Demon Beasts.

This was an even more delicious feast than Dolgo.

Meanwhile, Qin Chu’s gaze remained fixed on the Second Prince:

“Hehe… Your Highness, the Second Prince…”

“Let me show you something. I think you’ll like it.”

As he spoke, he opened his palm. He was going to conduct an experiment.

Within his palm was a milky white sphere, a thin, crimson thread wriggling within it.

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 223

Instead of Champion Realm: I’ll use War-God Realm(literary translation)

Chapter 223: The Hatred of a Stolen Wife

    Ireta closed her eyes.

Qin Chu noticed her long eyelashes, fluttering slightly as if she, too, was nervous. Her soft lips were inches from his.

“No…” he began, but before he could react, a mournful cry echoed through the forest.

From the corner of his eye, he saw Eldritch, the Second Prince, his composure shattered, his hands clutching his face, his eyes wide and bloodshot, filled with a mixture of anguish and hatred.

“No, please… Ireta, don’t do this…” he wailed, his voice filled with despair.

    “I love you so much…”

“You’re mine! No other man is worthy of you!”

His cries reminded Qin Chu of the Grand Prince’s reaction to Loseweisse kissing him.

But Eldritch’s anguish seemed unwarranted. Even if he loved Ireta, she clearly didn’t reciprocate. His relentless pursuit, like a stalker, had only annoyed and distressed her, yet he seemed oblivious.

Qin Chu felt a flicker of pity for him.

But he also knew how cruel and ruthless Eldritch could be. Among the Demon King’s sons, he was perhaps the most brutal, even more so than the Grand Prince.

In the first playthrough, to prove his superiority over his elder brother, Eldritch had razed an entire human kingdom, slaughtering every man, woman, and child, their corpses taken as food for his army.

Besides, he had made a promise to Ireta: she would decipher the information hidden within Jie Luo’s soul fragment, and he would fulfill one of her requests.

Qin Chu was a man of his word.

So, he glanced at Eldritch with disdain and kissed Ireta’s soft, pale lips.

    “AAAAAHHHHH….”

Eldritch’s mournful cry intensified, his eyes widening until they cracked, blood trickling down his cheeks.

Ireta, the woman he had vowed to possess the moment he saw her, was being kissed by another man.

His body trembled, his heart aching. He gritted his teeth so hard that one of them cracked, blood filling his mouth.

He hated Qin Chu, this man who had stolen the woman he desired.

He hated Ireta, this woman who rejected his love and chose another.

A surge of murderous rage, fueled by his broken heart, coursed through him, dark energy swirling around his body.

    Love turned to hate.

Ireta, kissed by this man, was no longer pure, no longer his.

The kiss was brief, a mere peck, and then Qin Chu pulled away.

    A Witch’s lips… not bad.

Her lips were cold, but he didn’t dislike it.

Ireta seemed to be panting slightly, a shy look on her face, her hand on her chest as if feeling something.

Just now, when Qin Chu kissed her, she had felt a faint flicker in her long-dead heart.

Perhaps it was just her imagination. Her heart was still, lifeless.

After the brief kiss, Ireta composed herself and looked at Eldritch. “Master Eldritch,” she said, “do you understand now? I have a lover. It’s impossible between us. Give up.”

    Hrrrk… Hrrrk…

Eldritch didn’t answer. He steadied himself, a strange, guttural sound escaping his throat, as if a snake was writhing within him. Dark energy swirled around him like a black fog.

    Kill… Kill… Kill…

    This man had to die.

    And Ireta too.

    Hrrrk… Gurgle…

The sounds from his throat became increasingly strange.

After a long moment, he grinned, a twisted, chilling smile. “Ireta…” he hissed, “you have truly disappointed me.”

    “You look so…dirty now.”

“You dared to defile my love for you… But it’s okay, I’m magnanimous. I’ll give you another chance. Of course, I’ll have to cut off the parts of you that he touched, so you can regain your purity.”

“I’ll turn you into a beautiful doll and keep you by my side forever. Then, one day, you will finally understand my love for you.”

Eldritch’s words were chilling, even Qin Chu felt a shiver run down his spine.

This guy was a complete psychopath.

To be loved by him was a curse.

Looking at Ireta’s pale face, Qin Chu felt a surge of pity for her. She was truly unfortunate.

Then Eldritch turned his gaze to Qin Chu, pointing a finger at him, his face a mask of mockery and challenge. “Trash…” he hissed.

“If you have the guts, leave Ireta’s side… and fight me like a man.”

“Let me see what kind of strength the man who won Ireta’s favor possesses.”

He didn’t dare to approach them. Ireta’s aura of death was too strong.

Eldritch wasn’t sure if he could defeat her, but he didn’t take this man seriously at all.

Especially since he had recently broken through level 90, reaching the same level as the Four Heavenly Kings. Among humans, besides Wadsworth, Augustus, and Saint Monique, those three old geezers, he feared no one.

Even the members of the Hero Squad were just weaklings in his eyes.

As for this man, although he didn’t know his identity, he clearly wasn’t one of those three old geezers.

In Eldritch’s eyes, he could crush him with one hand.

Although this man could strangely approach Ireta, seemingly unaffected by her aura of death, Eldritch believed it was only because of her permission.

This was the hatred of a stolen wife.

He would avenge this humiliation, or he wouldn’t be a Demon Beast.

He would crush this man’s dignity before Ireta, let her see how weak and pathetic her lover was.

Having reached level 90, he couldn’t possibly lose.

The three high-ranking Demon Beasts behind him cheered and taunted Qin Chu. In their eyes, the moment he stepped out of Ireta’s protective aura, he was a dead man.

Ireta frowned, about to step forward and fight in Qin Chu’s place.

She had almost no combat experience. Even when facing those crazed Witches, she would just run away.

She didn’t know if she was a match for Eldritch, but she knew he was very strong, and Qin Chu might not be able to defeat him. So, despite her lack of experience, she was still prepared to fight. After all, it was because of her that Qin Chu was facing this danger.

But at this moment, Qin Chu placed his hand on her shoulder, shaking his head with a smile.

That intimate and protective gesture further enraged Eldritch.

These two damned bastards, were they still flirting in front of him? Bastards!

“Coward! Are you going to hide behind Ireta forever?” Eldritch roared. “Ireta must be blind to choose a man like you…”

Qin Chu stretched and said with disdain, “Eldritch, has anyone… no, has any Demon Beast ever told you that you’re annoying? Buzzing around like a fly.”

    Hiss!

Eldritch gasped. He hadn’t expected Qin Chu to be so arrogant, even while hiding behind a woman.

“Want to fight? I’ll play along,” Qin Chu said, cracking his knuckles as he stepped away from Ireta.

The moment he left her side, Ireta felt a chilling emptiness… The aura of death, which had been suppressed by the warmth of Qin Chu’s soul, surged through her again.

A bone-chilling pain filled her body.

Although she was used to it, she still couldn’t help but wince.

But now wasn’t the time to worry about herself. Ireta wanted to stop the duel between Qin Chu and Eldritch. After all, Eldritch was very strong and incredibly insidious.

He wasn’t like a human knight, bound by rules and honor.

To win, Eldritch would do anything.

Seemingly sensing what she wanted to say, Qin Chu turned and smiled at her, “I’m Miss Ireta’s lover, after all…”

“I can’t let a filthy, ugly, stinking Demon Beast look down on me. It would embarrass Miss Ireta.”

“Trust me, your lover won’t lose.”

“After all, I am Miss Ireta’s knight now.”

    Her knight?

Qin Chu’s words made Ireta tremble, and she felt a warmth spreading through her body.

And Eldritch’s rage intensified. This filthy human dared to call him, the noble Second Prince of the Demon Beasts, filthy, ugly, and stinking?

Damn it, damn it, damn it…

He had never encountered such an infuriating human.

And Qin Chu’s expression also turned cold.

He had already been in a bad mood because of the information from Jie Luo’s soul fragment. He needed to vent.

And this Second Prince had delivered himself to his doorstep.

    Eldritch was level 90…

The gap between them seemed vast, but Qin Chu, even when his strength was far below the War God realm, could fight against a War God with his Rage ability.

Now that his attributes had reached the War God standard, he was curious about the effect of activating Rage Explosion.

Under Ireta’s gaze, Qin Chu walked away from her, towards the massive spear that had been deflected by his Pseudo-Absolute Defense.

He flicked his toe, and the heavy spear leaped from the ground, landing in his hand.

He took a step forward, his body in a lunge stance, his back arched, silver flames swirling around his right hand as he gripped the spear tightly.

“Then… Your Highness, the Second Prince Eldritch…”

    “Receive my attack!”

    Rage Explosion!

    Hum!

    He threw the spear.

It shot out like a meteor.

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 222

Chapter 222: Shut Up and Kiss Me

    The spear was abnormally thick.

Its half-meter-long head and shaft as thick as a man’s arm, forged from solid metal, looked incredibly heavy, yet it moved with astonishing speed, tearing through the air with a humming sound, the wind it generated shattering trees in its path.

    A true dragon among spears.

Although thrown from a great distance, its speed was such that it reached Qin Chu in an instant.

Ireta’s expression changed, and she was about to intercept it when a golden light erupted from Qin Chu’s body.

The golden light instantly formed a large barrier, protecting both him and Ireta.

    Pseudo-Absolute Defense.

The ability he had plundered from Benson. This was the first time he had used it.

The next moment, the spear slammed into the barrier with a deafening roar.

The ground trembled violently, a shockwave rippling outwards, shattering the surrounding trees and vegetation, leaving a crater in the earth.

The power of a single spear, terrifying indeed!

    The attacker’s strength was formidable.

But even such power was useless against the Pseudo-Absolute Defense. Only faint ripples appeared on the golden barrier.

Qin Chu had long coveted this ability. Although it had its drawbacks, such as immobility and vulnerability to attacks from below, its defensive power was incredible, especially against surprise attacks.

And it also accelerated stamina and Battle Qi recovery.

Perhaps it was because of these flaws that it was called “pseudo,” not true, Absolute Defense.

This was the first time Qin Chu had used this ability since acquiring it from Benson.

A smile played on his lips, but his eyes were cold as he scanned the area behind him. Under the moonlight, he could see several figures.

    Demon Beasts?

    Qin Chu frowned.

He could tell at a glance that those figures weren’t human.

The one leading them was four meters tall, not as massive as Lomond, but still far taller than any human. He wore gleaming silver armor that revealed his powerful, well-defined muscles. His face was handsome, even by human standards, but it wasn’t a delicate beauty. He exuded a wild, masculine aura. His eyes glowed crimson, and his long, black hair flowed freely behind him. He wore golden boots.

    His overall appearance was… flamboyant.

Behind him were several grotesque Demon Beasts, one with a human face, eagle-like claws for feet, and powerful wings for arms. Its eyes were filled with malice and cunning.

It was a Harpy, a troublesome opponent even among Demon Beasts.

Another figure, almost human in appearance, had narrow, sharp eyes and a flickering, forked tongue.

Not a common Snake Man or Gorgon, but a Snake Spirit, more human-like, capable of spitting corrosive venom.

And a massive ape, covered in brown fur, the same Raging Ape that Ekaterina had fought before.

A Harpy, a Snake Spirit, a Raging Ape… all high-ranking Demon Beasts, and they were merely this young man’s followers.

    This indicated his high status.

    The Second Demon Beast Prince!

    Eldritch!

    Qin Chu recognized him instantly.

A ferocious and powerful prince, unlike the foolish Lomond.

One of the strongest contenders for the next Demon King.

But what had he just called him?

    Traitor?

Qin Chu couldn’t understand. A Demon Beast calling him, the Hero, a traitor? What gave him the right?

Eldritch shouldn’t know his identity as the Hero yet.

Although he had dropped his Horus disguise when facing Ronald, to let him know who was responsible for his suffering, he had never met Eldritch.

But now, Eldritch’s fiery gaze was filled with an intense hatred, as if Qin Chu had killed his father and stolen his wife.

Where did this inexplicable hatred come from?

Seeing Eldritch, Ireta, the Daughter of Death, seemed afraid and instinctively moved closer to Qin Chu.

    She liked him.

    It wasn’t love.

But his soul gave her a sense of comfort.

Qin Chu’s soul, like the sun, radiated a bright, warm light. Ireta had encountered countless souls, most of them filthy and corrupted.

Even the so-called good people, the so-called heroes, had darkness hidden within their souls, the only difference being the amount. Their soul light, although bright, wasn’t as radiant as Qin Chu’s.

Seeing how he had tormented, humiliated, and killed Ronald, Ireta knew that Qin Chu wasn’t completely pure either. There must be darkness within him as well, but the light in his soul was strong enough to suppress it.

That light could even suppress the boundless resentment she had accumulated over a thousand years, the constant burning agony that tormented her body and soul seeming to lessen in his presence.

This feeling was comforting, a relief she hadn’t felt in a long time.

She even felt a flicker of life in her long-dead heart.

And Ireta’s closeness to Qin Chu, her dependence on him, twisted something within the handsome Eldritch, his eyes burning with rage.

He growled, a low, menacing sound, “Bastard! Get away from Miss Ireta!”

At this moment, Ireta took a deep breath and wrapped her arm around Qin Chu’s, her soft, lifeless body pressing against his.

His arm was trapped against her chest, though it couldn’t quite encompass her.

Their bodies were now closer than ever.

    Eldritch trembled with rage.

Qin Chu understood. He was being used as a shield.

As expected, the next second, Ireta mustered her courage and spoke to Eldritch, “Eldritch, this is my boyfriend… I already have a lover, so stop bothering me.”

Eldritch reeled as if struck, his face ashen, his lips trembling.

He looked so pathetic that even Qin Chu felt a flicker of pity.

“Miss Ireta…” Qin Chu said, touching his nose, not pulling away from her embrace, “Could you give me a heads-up next time? So I can be prepared.”

Ireta’s face was filled with apology. “I was about to tell you, but I didn’t have time…”

“Please, Hero, help me,” she pleaded softly.

This Demon Beast prince, Eldritch, had good taste.

Although the combination of a Demon Beast and a human was a bit strange, if it was a Demon Beast and a Witch, it suddenly seemed less unusual.

“Hero, would you mind playing along for a bit? I didn’t intend to do this, but I didn’t expect you to be able to withstand my aura of death, so I had this idea.”

Ireta placed her hand on her chest, her large, watery eyes looking up at him pleadingly.

    Her gaze was disarming.

Strangely, the same action from Loseweisse only disgusted him, but from Ireta, it felt…

    …cute.

    And a little pitiful.

Qin Chu couldn’t refuse. He took a deep breath and reluctantly agreed.

“You said that the First and Second Princes are both trying to increase their strength and influence. The First Prince is going to subdue the Flame Witch. Could it be that the Second Prince is targeting you?”

Ireta nodded with a bitter smile. “Actually, Eldritch has been pursuing me for a long time.”

“It was many years ago. I was cleansing souls on the battlefield when Eldritch happened to see me.”

“He declared his love for me and asked me to be his bride…”

“I was startled and ran away. Who would have thought that he would keep pursuing me after that?”

“I thought he would give up after a while, but it’s been years, and he’s still relentlessly pursuing me.”

Ireta’s face was filled with frustration.

“Isn’t he afraid of your aura of death?” Qin Chu asked curiously.

“He is, but he’s very strong, his willpower is also very strong. Although he can’t completely ignore it like you, he can resist it to a certain extent. He’s one of the few who can approach me,” Ireta replied.

But he could only approach her. Touching her, like Qin Chu was doing, was impossible. Her aura of death would kill him.

After a pause, Ireta muttered, pouting slightly, “How annoying.”

If Eldritch heard these words, he would be heartbroken.

Although he didn’t hear them, he saw the intimate scene of Qin Chu and the woman he loved whispering to each other, and it filled him with jealousy and rage.

    His body trembled violently.

It seemed that he wasn’t just interested in Ireta’s power, he had truly fallen for her.

After a few seconds, Eldritch, whether stimulated by the scene before him or simply losing his mind, burst into a hysterical laughter:

    “Hahahaha… I understand.”

    “Ireta, I understand everything now.”

“This man is just a shield you found to deceive me, right?”

“I know, in the human world, this kind of person is called… a shield… Yes, a shield, am I right?”

“Trying to fool me… It’s useless, Ireta. You don’t have to hide. No matter where you go, even to the ends of the earth, even to the depths of hell, I will find you. In this life, you are destined to be… mine.”

“As for this man… Although he’s just a shield, he dared to get so close to Miss Ireta, I will still kill him, using the most cruel methods.”

    Eldritch made his twisted declaration.

It had to be said that Eldritch’s perception was very sharp. He had actually seen through their act, which made Ireta’s face change slightly.

She wanted to be free of his pursuit. She bit her lip, seemingly making a major decision.

A few seconds later, she turned gracefully and appeared before Qin Chu, her arms wrapping around his neck.

This action stunned Qin Chu. “Miss Ireta, what are you…?”

    “Shut up and kiss me…”

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 221

Chapter 221: The Demon King’s Research

Seeing Ireta’s look of understanding, her dark eyes filled with admiration, Qin Chu felt a little awkward.

    You understand nothing, he thought.

He wasn’t as noble and virtuous as she imagined. He just wanted revenge, to see this world burn, to make everyone pay.

This woman was truly a master of making assumptions.

“Miss Ireta,” Qin Chu asked, blinking, “do you know someone named Demiurge? Are you two related by any chance?”

“Demiurge?” Ireta looked puzzled and thought for a moment, then shook her head. “Who is that? I don’t know anyone by that name, and there’s no one called Demiurge among my descendants.”

After a pause, she continued, “What about this person?”

Nothing, it’s just that you two are both good at making assumptions, Qin Chu thought. He wasn’t one to take credit where it wasn’t due.

He took a deep breath. “You saw through me?” he asked, shamelessly admitting it.

A smug look appeared on Ireta’s face, pleased with herself for guessing correctly.

Then, Qin Chu’s expression turned somber, and he sighed dramatically. “Miss Ireta,” he said, his voice filled with mock regret, “do you know how much I regret the words I spoke?”

“‘Are kings, dukes, generals, and ministers born or made?’”

    “What a joke!”

“Perhaps I only gave them a hope they could never reach.”

“Without hope, they might have continued to live their difficult but peaceful lives. But with this hope… only death awaits them.”

Qin Chu’s feigned sadness made Ireta flustered. She took his rough hand in her lace-gloved ones.

It had been a thousand years since she had touched another human.

She seemed a little shy, but since her body was already dead, no blush colored her cheeks.

Suppressing a slight tremor in her soul, she looked at the Hero with concern. “Hero,” she said, “please don’t think that way.”

“Hope is what sustains human life.”

“A life without hope is just an empty shell.”

“I can’t speak for everyone, but I believe most people would want a chance to be a hero, even if only for a fleeting moment, rather than live a life of quiet desperation.”

“Please don’t feel burdened by bringing hope to this world. In my opinion, hope is the most precious, the most lacking thing in this world.”

Somehow, the distance between Qin Chu and Ireta had closed.

This displeased Shaye, who muttered complaints in Qin Chu’s mind, cursing him for being a fickle-minded scumbag.

Qin Chu also felt a twinge of guilt. Even with his thick skin, he couldn’t quite meet Ireta’s innocent gaze.

He coughed slightly, changing the subject, “Miss Ireta, you should also know about my deal with Lomond, the Seventh Demon Prince, and how I caused the deaths of Ronald, Benson, and Karsus. Knowing this, why do you still think I’m a good person?”

Ireta’s ability to conceal her presence was truly remarkable.

Her body was dead, no heartbeat, no breath, her existence almost completely merged with the darkness. When he was tormenting Ronald, Qin Chu had carefully scanned his surroundings, confirming that no one else was present. Yet, he hadn’t detected Ireta.

    Even Anthea hadn’t sensed her.

Although Ireta didn’t seem hostile, this still annoyed Qin Chu. He had to be more careful next time.

And since Ireta already knew about these things, there was no need for him to hide them.

Ireta shook her head slowly and said:

“Dealing with a Demon Beast, harming Ronald, these things don’t negate the fact that you are a good person.”

“On the battlefield, the souls of the soldiers were purified by me. You saw that, didn’t you, Hero?” Ireta asked.

Qin Chu nodded. “The countless flickering lights? Yes, it was a beautiful sight.”

“Every soul, regardless of who they are, has both good and evil within them. The evil resentment is absorbed and intercepted by me. That is purification. Those flickering lights are the purest parts of their souls, cleansed of all evil.”

“Some lights are bright, some are faint.”

“And the souls of the Hero Squad members… there was no need to purify them.”

“Their souls were almost completely tainted, a dense darkness, whether it was Ronald, Benson, or Karsus… Not a single spark of light could be extracted.”

“They did fight the Demon Beasts, they did kill some, but that couldn’t atone for the evil they committed.”

    Qin Chu’s eyelids twitched.

He knew that the members of the Hero Squad harbored intense malice towards him, but he hadn’t expected that, in Ireta’s eyes, their souls were already completely rotten, beyond redemption.

Ireta judged a person by their soul.

“For those people, this ending is just the punishment they deserve.”

After a brief pause, Ireta continued, “And the reason you chose to cooperate with Lomond must be because you saw that among the Demon King’s sons, his soul is the only one still worth saving, right?”

    Huh?

Qin Chu was even more confused.

    What was she talking about?

But Ireta actually said that the soul of a cruel and violent creature like Lomond was still worth saving, while the souls of Ronald, Benson, and Karsus, members of the Hero Squad, were completely tainted.

Damn, those guys were worse than Demon Beasts!

“The next Demon King can only be one of the Demon King’s sons, and these princes are all cruel and cunning. Although Lomond is also quite brutal, his mind is relatively… ahem, well…”

    Just say he’s stupid.

“In short, Lomond is relatively easy to control.”

Ireta didn’t know how to describe Lomond. She tilted her head and skipped over it, “You’ve put in a lot of effort for the sake of humanity, Hero.”

Wait, how did this shift back to humanity? It seemed that Ireta’s train of thought jumped around a bit too much.

“You must be worried that if the seeds you planted in those soldiers’ hearts sprout, and they start to rebel against the rule of the Empire’s nobles, then if the Demon Beasts invade again, there will be rivers of blood. So you deliberately supported Lomond, creating conflict within the Demon Beast ranks.”

“That way, the Demon Beasts will be too preoccupied with their internal struggles to invade the human world, giving the human spark time to ignite.”

“Even if the human world is weakened after the war and needs time to recover, the Demon Beast world will also be weakened and need time to recover, which gives humanity enough time.”

Ireta’s eyes shone with admiration as she looked at Qin Chu.

“To have considered everything so thoroughly, even events so far in the future, you’re truly amazing, Hero.”

Ireta’s gaze and praise made Qin Chu feel a little guilty.

Huh? So that was what I was thinking?

Wasn’t I just trying to stir up trouble?

He even began to doubt himself, feeling that what Ireta said seemed to make sense. Could this be his true plan?

“Ahem…” Qin Chu felt that he couldn’t continue dwelling on this topic, or he might develop a split personality.

“Miss Ireta, you seem to know a lot about the Demon Beasts’ affairs. Can you tell me about their current situation?” He changed the subject abruptly.

Although he had the experience from the first playthrough, his understanding of the Demon Beasts was still far less than his understanding of the human world. Ireta, as the Daughter of Death, seemed to be responsible for dealing with the souls of not only humans but also Demon Beasts, so she seemed to know a lot about them.

It would be good to get some information from her.

“The Demon Beasts?” Ireta tilted her head, her slender finger tapping her cheek, “The Demon King has been in seclusion since his duel with the First Hero…”

“Since then, he hasn’t interfered in the conflict between humans and Demon Beasts, he has no interest in the war, and he’s practically in semi-retirement, only maintaining his title as Demon King.”

“He seems to be researching something. I tried to pry, but he discovered me. I could only vaguely sense that it seems to be related to space.”

Qin Chu frowned. The Demon King was researching space? What was he planning?

“Because the Demon King is effectively inactive, his sons believe that this is a test, a way for him to choose his successor.”

“These princes all want to ascend to the throne, and the First and Second Princes are the most powerful contenders.”

“They are the strongest, and their influence among the Demon Beasts is the greatest. Originally, these two princes didn’t take their other brothers seriously, but Lomond has recently risen to prominence, capturing two members of the Hero Squad, one of them even alive.”

“This has greatly increased Lomond’s prestige, making the two princes see him as a threat.”

“They desperately want to increase their own strength, influence, and power.”

“But the whereabouts of the Hero Squad members are not easy to obtain. They don’t have accurate information sources and can’t capture them like Lomond did.”

“So they can only turn their attention elsewhere. The First Prince has set his sights on Flame Mountain. He wants to control the Flame Witch. If he can control a Witch, his prestige will surely skyrocket.”

“He has already taken his elite forces to Flame Mountain.”

Qin Chu’s eyes narrowed slightly. Because of his interference, things were developing differently in both the human and Demon Beast worlds.

In the first playthrough, the Demon Beasts usually didn’t actively provoke the Witches.

But that damned First Prince actually dared to target the Flame Witch? Didn’t he know that she was Qin Chu’s target? Was he trying to steal her from him?

Ireta, not noticing Qin Chu’s strange expression, continued, “As for what the Second Prince is targeting, it’s…”

Her voice suddenly became hesitant and shy…

    “Traitor, die!”

At this moment, a roar suddenly came from the distance.

The next instant, a sharp spear tore through the space like lightning, heading straight for Qin Chu’s back!

Chapter 220: Fuck the Truth of This World

    “And that woman, Loseweisse…”

“She didn’t participate in the killing of the thirty-seven Heroes from other worlds, but why does she make me feel more terrified than the other nine members of the Hero Squad, whose hands are stained with blood? Just seeing her makes me tremble.”

“Did Jie Luo the Second also sense something?”

    The information ended there.

    New information, new questions.

Jie Luo the Second had been faithfully carrying out the Evil God’s mission.

He hunted Fate, he hunted Heroes.

    That was the strange part.

The records of the Heavenly Continent clearly stated that the Hero summoning ritual had only been performed twice: the first time summoning Jie Luo the Second, and the second time summoning Qin Chu.

But according to the First Jie Luo’s message, the Heavenly Continent had been summoning Heroes continuously, perhaps even one per month. But these newly summoned Heroes were immediately found and killed by Jie Luo the Second.

The members of the Hero Squad, knowing their identities, knowing that they might be the Heroes who could save the Heavenly Continent, still followed Jie Luo’s orders and ruthlessly killed these people, who were likely also transmigrators from Earth.

Even though these people hadn’t done anything wrong, they didn’t even understand what was happening to them, perhaps thinking they were just dreaming, and then they died just like that.

    A group of pitiful people.

Qin Chu felt a pang of sorrow.

He took a deep breath, suppressing his emotions, and fell into thought.

Ireta, the Daughter of Death, sensing his contemplation, stood quietly by his side, not disturbing him.

Qin Chu connected everything he had experienced in both playthroughs, combining it with the clues from the soul fragment.

Sage Mountain couldn’t have summoned Heroes so many times in such a short period. They didn’t have that capability.

And the Heroes summoned by Sage Mountain would be directly transported to the city, well-protected in their initial, powerless state.

    So, thinking outside the box…

The way the First Jie Luo and he himself were summoned to this world was fundamentally different.

After all, he hadn’t experienced anything like a time tunnel, nor had he heard a mysterious woman’s voice.

For now, he assumed there were two ways to summon Heroes to the Heavenly Continent: one by Sage Mountain, and the other by the goddess. The two methods shouldn’t interfere with each other.

He had been summoned by Sage Mountain.

The First Jie Luo had been summoned by the goddess.

But the First Jie Luo’s summoning had been intercepted by the Evil Gods of the Void, his soul and consciousness erased, his memories inherited, his body modified and possessed.

At the same time, Sage Mountain should also have been summoning a Hero, and the modified Jie Luo the Second was sent there by the Void Evil Gods.

And the First Jie Luo’s soul hadn’t been completely erased. With the Evil Gods’ power, this was almost impossible. He could only deduce that some other force had protected it, shielding it from the Void Evil Gods!

Later, for some reason, it had gradually awakened and left these messages within the soul fragments, hoping to warn those who came after him.

And the most important piece of information was that thirty-seven Heroes had been killed.

These thirty-seven Heroes were likely summoned by the goddess, and Jie Luo the Second’s mission was to hunt them down. But if the Void Evil Gods could intercept the goddess’s summons, why didn’t they intercept all thirty-seven Heroes? Why choose the more troublesome method of using Jie Luo the Second as a tool?

Qin Chu could only speculate that the Void Evil Gods, needing to suppress the goddess in the cage, couldn’t exert their full power and couldn’t intercept all the Heroes… Or perhaps intercepting each one consumed a large amount of energy, so they needed to create a powerful tool, completely obedient to their commands, to eliminate the Heroes for them.

The First Jie Luo clearly didn’t meet their standards, so he was erased.

And it seemed they didn’t have the power to significantly influence or interfere with this world. Otherwise, they could just kill the Heroes directly as soon as they appeared.

They couldn’t even constantly observe this world, only occasionally casting their gaze upon it… After all, he himself had only been noticed by the Evil God after he touched the seven scrolls.

However, judging from Loseweisse’s seven scrolls, the strange threads on Sylph, and the whispers in Karsus’s ears, the Evil Gods’ influence on this world wasn’t limited to just Jie Luo the Second.

The cage in the Void imprisoned the goddess, but it also, in a way, trapped the Evil Gods. They could only influence this world through various methods, such as the seven scrolls, Jie Luo the Second, and so on.

And why were the Void Evil Gods so focused on the Hero?

Even if the Hero was incredibly talented and his strength increased rapidly, becoming the most powerful among humans, he was still just a weakling compared to the Evil Gods of the Void.

    Was it really necessary?

Such elaborate arrangements even made Qin Chu feel a sense of unease. He vaguely sensed a hint of… fear… in these arrangements.

As if the Hero truly possessed the power to kill an Evil God.

Why hadn’t Jie Luo the Second let Loseweisse participate in the slaughter of the other Heroes? What was he wary of? Loseweisse possessed the Evil God’s seven scrolls, so her connection to them should be very close, and her relationship with Jie Luo the Second should also be better, right?

Or was Jie Luo the Second inherently rebellious?

That mysterious goddess continuously sending Heroes to the Heavenly Continent, could it be that she was just casting a wide net, hoping to catch a big fish? Or was she trying to deceive the Evil Gods, hiding the true Hero among them?

Either way, this mysterious goddess was more ruthless than he had imagined.

But after Jie Luo’s death, the flow of Heroes had stopped. Otherwise, there would have been news of other transmigrators besides him. Had the Void Evil Gods found a way to intercept them, or had the goddess exhausted her power, perhaps even perished?

Or had she already been found, even killed, by Jie Luo the Second?

Qin Chu shuddered. He hadn’t been modified or had his soul annihilated like the First Jie Luo, but had successfully arrived in this world. He was truly lucky.

    He thought about many things.

But the true secrets of this world remained hidden from him. These were just his speculations.

He only had two soul fragments now, the information within too limited.

Even though his mind was more mature now, his self-control stronger, he still couldn’t help but feel a surge of frustration. He gripped his hair, muttering curses under his breath. He didn’t activate his Forced Calm ability. Sometimes, he needed to vent, or the weight of these mysteries would crush him.

    “Damn it!”

    “Damn it!”

He just wanted revenge, why was he being dragged into all this?

    His mood soured.

After all, he was facing those terrifying and mysterious beings.

Qin Chu’s reaction made Ireta a little afraid.

    She instinctively shrank back.

Although she was the powerful Daughter of Death, she seemed timid.

After a long while, Qin Chu took a deep breath and raised his head.

His face was tired, but his eyes shone with a newfound resolve.

Damn the truth of this world.

    Damn the Void Evil Gods.

Let them come at him with whatever they had. He would face them head-on. When he became strong enough, he would crush them all, scatter their ashes to the wind.

But from now on, he would be more careful, more cautious.

He regained his composure and looked at the Daughter of Death beside him. The clues he had were too few… The goddess’s hint had only been a single word: Witches.

Then, no matter what, it was better to gather the Witches around him as soon as possible, right?

His original next target had been the Flame Witch, but since the Daughter of Death had appeared before him on her own initiative, this was a good thing, wasn’t it?

    Or was this…Fate?

Bullshit Fate, he muttered, seemingly influenced by the First Jie Luo.

He adjusted his mood and forced a smile, “Miss Ireta, I apologize for my outburst.”

Ireta shook her head, indicating her understanding.

For the Hero to suddenly receive such shocking news, it was normal for him to be emotionally unstable.

“It’s okay, you’re a good person,” Ireta said softly, “I didn’t pry into your thoughts, but I can sense your soul… It doesn’t belong to this world.”

“This world is not worthy of someone as noble as you.”

    Qin Chu smiled wryly. Noble?

Ireta’s praise was a bit much. His actions in this second playthrough weren’t exactly noble.

“When tens of thousands of corpses were burning, you were the only one who grieved for those fallen soldiers. The other nobles, the clerics, they only felt disdain and fear.”

“The words you spoke to those soldiers on the bloody battlefield… I was nearby, I heard everything. ‘Are kings, dukes, generals, and ministers born or made?’ Such powerful words, filled with infinite possibilities.”

“You wanted them to find the courage to seize their own happiness, to change this rotten world, right?”

No, no, I was just stirring up trouble, Qin Chu thought. I just want to watch this world burn, to see rivers of blood.

His shaking head was interpreted by Ireta as modesty, “Hero, modesty is a good quality, but don’t overdo it.”

“You must have realized that this world is rotten to the core, the nobles high and mighty, oppressing and exploiting the other humans.”

“The commoners are like domesticated animals, having lost their pride, silently enduring hardships they shouldn’t have to bear.”

“If these numb souls aren’t awakened, even if you kill all the nobles, they will just be replaced by another group, and this world won’t change.”

“You are so kind… and so wise.”

“You didn’t tell them directly, but you planted a seed. One day, this seed will sprout.”

“You must have considered that only the strength one realizes on their own is the truest strength, so you deliberately arranged it this way, didn’t you?”

    “Mr. Qin, I understand everything!”

No, you understand nothing, Qin Chu thought.

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 219

Chapter 219: The First Jie Luo’s Warning

Jie Luo was dead, of course. This was common knowledge throughout the Heavenly Continent.

But Qin Chu had a strange feeling that the death described in the soul fragment wasn’t the same death everyone knew about.

And what did Jie Luo mean by “they stole everything from me: my body, my life, my soul, my memories”?

The eerie message, delivered in Ireta’s emotionless voice, although not explicitly horrifying, made his scalp tingle.

Qin Chu shivered. It seemed he was about to learn some of the true secrets of this world.

He listened intently, not wanting to miss a single detail.

After a brief pause, Ireta continued:

“Perhaps what I’ve left behind will confuse you…”

“But let me tell you from the beginning…”

Qin Chu was in luck. Jie Luo had left a message within his soul fragments, scattered across the land. And this fragment seemed to be the beginning of the story.

“I come from a beautiful world called Earth.”

“I lived in a romantic country.”

“I had a beautiful girlfriend. I swear she was truly beautiful… but why did her best friend always seem more alluring…? Ah, I’m such a bastard, I should repent.”

“But it was such a romantic country.”

“So, it wasn’t my fault, it was the world’s.”

“Alright, perhaps I’m rambling. This seems like irrelevant nonsense… Now, for the important part.”

“I spent a romantic night with my girlfriend’s best friend. We were both very satisfied.”

“Perhaps…too satisfied. I died, I think… When I woke up again, I found myself in a strange place.”

“A time tunnel, do you know what that is? It felt like that.”

“I seemed to be traveling to some mysterious world.”

“This must be what they call ‘transmigration.’ Perhaps I was going to become the protagonist of a novel, a manga, or a movie… I had some regrets. I should have prepared a glove with some embedded gems…”

“Then, I heard a woman’s voice. She said I was chosen by fate, the Hero.”

“I was to travel to a world ravaged by Demon Beasts, shrouded in darkness, and bring light and hope.”

“I couldn’t see her, but her voice was beautiful. She must have been a goddess. I wonder if she would be more exciting than my girlfriend’s best friend…”

“I wanted to ask her more, but the passage suddenly closed.”

“I found myself in a dark, empty place, seemingly the Void. Seven… strange beings appeared before me.”

“They were so ugly, clearly not benevolent. They wanted me to submit to them, to become their believer?”

“Hahahahaha… what a joke! I am a citizen of the noble country of Francia! Our history boasts heroes like Joan of Arc! Surrender is not an option!”

    “I believe in God.”

“I will never surrender to these ugly monsters.”

“I wanted to fuck their mothers.”

“Wait, what are these ugly monsters saying? They want to erase my consciousness, even destroy my soul, and create a fake one…?”

“Wait, wait, wait… please, no! If my consciousness is erased, my soul destroyed, then will I still be me?”

“Where’s the goddess who summoned me? Help!”

    “Are they serious?”

    “Alright, I surrender!”

    “Fuck traditions.”

“I knelt before those seven ugly bastards, expressing my sincere submission. They were so powerful, so terrifying. Although they were ugly, being their believer didn’t seem so bad. After all, they promised me supreme power, strength, wealth, and countless beauties. I swear, I’ve never been so devout, not even when praying to God.”

“Actually, I don’t care about the beauties. I’m not that kind of person.”

“Besides, I don’t know much about that Heavenly Continent. Maybe these seven ugly monsters are the good guys?”

“But damn it, my submission didn’t earn me their favor. It seemed that my initial refusal had angered them.”

    “My consciousness was stripped away.”

“I watched as they copied all my memories. Strange tentacles wrapped around me, injecting a foul-smelling mucus into my body. They said I wasn’t handsome enough, that I didn’t fit the human aesthetic…”

“They remade my body according to human standards. It was… strange. Not fat, not thin, not tall, not short, his face neither masculine nor feminine, his eyes neither big nor small, his skin neither fair nor dark.”

“Just looking at it filled me with terror.”

“It was human, but completely devoid of any distinguishing features, just…human.”

“They injected strange threads into this new Jie Luo’s body, instilled my memories, and then his eyes gained a spark of life. He transformed from a puppet into a soul with consciousness. They gave him a mission!”

“To hunt Fate… and the Hero.”

“I knew he had become the new Jie Luo.”

“Whether you’re from the Heavenly Continent or a Hero from another world, remember my warning: stay away from this place. If you can’t, then find a corner and hide.”

“My end has come. Is this the punishment for betraying my lover?”

    “I’m such a pathetic clown.”

    Ireta’s voice fell silent.

She opened her eyes, her dark pupils filled with sadness.

And Qin Chu, his body covered in goosebumps, finally understood.

The First Hero had died the moment he arrived in this world.

During the summoning process, he had been intercepted by the Evil Gods of the Void. They had erased his consciousness and soul, creating a puppet under their control.

The Evil Gods could create a false soul, but they couldn’t give it common sense, couldn’t make it seem truly human, so they had simply implanted Jie Luo’s memories to speed up the process.

After the process was complete, the original Jie Luo’s soul was shattered, his consciousness erased, and Jie Luo the Second was born.

But for some unknown reason, the First Jie Luo’s consciousness hadn’t been completely erased, leaving behind these fragmented memories.

And Jie Luo the Second, the Hero worshipped by the Heavenly Continent, the object of the Hero Squad’s devotion, was a puppet of the Evil Gods from the very beginning. Everything that happened afterwards had nothing to do with the First Jie Luo. He was effectively erased.

And his purpose was to hunt Fate… and the Hero.

He understood the Hero part, but what was Fate?

The First Jie Luo had mentioned hearing a woman’s voice during the summoning, even experiencing a sensation like traveling through a time tunnel.

Qin Chu hadn’t experienced any of that. He had simply been playing a game late at night, then woken up in another world.

Who was that woman? Could it be the goddess imprisoned in the Void cage? Qin Chu didn’t think so. Imprisoned as she was, she shouldn’t have the power to summon a Hero from another world. Perhaps it was related to this “Fate”?

The information from Jie Luo’s soul fragment, although answering some of his questions, had also raised more.

For example, why hadn’t the First Jie Luo’s soul been completely erased by the Void Evil Gods? Why had it awakened?

If Jie Luo the Second’s true purpose was to hunt Fate and the Hero, why did he bother fighting the Demon Beasts? Why did he challenge the Demon King to a duel and die at his hands?

And was Jie Luo the Second truly dead?

As a puppet of the Evil Gods, even the Demon King might not be able to truly kill him. His death seemed too… convenient.

    “That’s all,” Ireta said quietly.

“Are you satisfied with these answers?”

Qin Chu nodded, then shook his head.

    He wanted to know everything.

He looked at Ireta and handed her the other soul fragment.

Ireta took it silently and, just like before, began to explore the traces within it.

This soul fragment was smaller, and the information within was less extensive.

And it seemed to be a continuation of the previous fragment, with some parts missing.

Her voice, flat and emotionless, began to speak:

“This world is truly disgusting. The people here are all madmen, their souls filthy and corrupted.”

“Is that woman called Ekaterina? She has a beautiful face and a fiery figure, but her soul is filled with madness and filth, it’s repulsive.”

“That man is just a Hero who was recently summoned to this world. He hasn’t done anything, he doesn’t even understand what’s happening to him.”

“Just because Jie Luo… well, Jie Luo the Second, said that this man would threaten his position as the Hero, she ruthlessly killed him.”

    “She snapped his neck…”

“As his blood spurted, she clung to Jie Luo the Second, a twisted, morbid smile on her face. For that avatar of the Evil God, for that so-called Jie Luo, she would do anything.”

“I could sense Jie Luo the Second’s lust for her, but he could do nothing. It must be quite enjoyable to watch but not touch, hahaha, he deserves it.”

“This is the thirty-seventh Hero she has killed…”

    “Damn Fate!”

    Thirty-seven?

    That number didn’t seem right.

    ***

Note: Jie Luo is the Chinese name 杰洛 (Jié Luò) adapted for the hero. Initially, I assumed he was Chinese due to the novel’s Chinese origin. However, it’s worth noting that his name could be adapted into other languages as Jero, Jeluo, or similar variations. For consistency, I’ll retain the original name as Jie Luo.

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 218

Chapter 218: My Name is Jie Luo, and I’m Dead

    Feel Ireta’s heartbeat.

Qin Chu felt this wasn’t appropriate, not the action of a gentleman. Even if subtle, it was still a young woman’s body, not something he could casually touch.

But Ireta, seeing his hesitation, seemed puzzled. After a brief pause, she took his hand and placed it on her chest.

Qin Chu’s fingers twitched, almost recoiling.

This reaction had nothing to do with being a gentleman.

It was the feeling of her skin against his.

Her skin wasn’t rough, but smooth and soft, like fine silk.

    But too much like silk.

Goosebumps erupted on Qin Chu’s skin, a strange, unsettling sensation.

    Her skin was cold…

Not the coldness of ice, but a normal, yet lifeless cold, an indifferent cold.

It wasn’t the body temperature of a living human.

And beneath his palm, he couldn’t feel the slightest hint of a heartbeat.

    This girl had no heartbeat.

    Her body was already dead.

“Divine Authority,” Ireta said with a soft smile, “it’s the power of a god, after all.”

Perhaps because of the strange sense of kinship she felt towards him, she didn’t mind his touch.

“For a mortal to bear the power of a god comes at a great cost,” she continued, her voice ethereal, “I don’t know when it began…”

“Perhaps because the authority I inherited is special, from the moment it descended upon me, I had to work as the agent of Death.”

“But I’m not the true Death God.”

“The true Death God can completely erase the resentment from souls, but I can’t. I can only intercept it, allowing the pure parts of the souls to transform into energy and return to the cycle of the world. And the resentment… it clings to me.”

“At some point, people who approached me started to become weak, they would fall ill… they would be plagued by misfortune…”

    “And eventually, they would die.”

Her words echoed in Qin Chu’s ears.

All those who inherited Divine Authority were destined for a tragic life.

Violet, enduring a thousand years of torment, driven to madness by loneliness and corruption.

    Gaia, the same…

Qin Chu had thought that Ireta had fully integrated the power of her Divine Authority, but in some ways, her experience was even more cruel than Violet’s and Gaia’s.

She wasn’t mad, she was completely lucid.

But it was precisely this lucidity that made her watch helplessly as she harmed her family and friends… forcing her to isolate herself from the world, her slender body bearing the resentment of billions of souls for over a thousand years.

Ireta wasn’t as calm as she appeared.

Qin Chu had only felt a sliver of that resentment, and it had been almost unbearable.

He couldn’t imagine what it was like for Ireta. Perhaps she had become accustomed to it, but being accustomed to such torment was just a deeper tragedy.

“And then, at some point… my body stopped growing.”

Ireta looked down at her chest with a hint of sadness. She would never grow up.

Although she was the agent of Death, she was still a woman, a little dissatisfied with her small chest. After all, she had once been a young girl, with dreams for the future.

But as her body stopped growing, those dreams also vanished.

Although in Qin Chu’s eyes, if she could grow, she would have grown long ago.

“And then… even my breathing and heartbeat stopped.”

“I, the agent of Death, am already dead.”

Her calm words, devoid of emotion, filled Qin Chu with a deep sense of sorrow.

Ireta also seemed to feel the weight of the topic and forced a smile. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had a proper conversation with someone. It’s thanks to you having the Seed of Life and not being driven mad.”

“I tried to find other Witches. I thought that they, also possessing Divine Authority, wouldn’t be affected by my aura of death. But they attacked me the moment they saw me, so I had to leave.”

    “Thank you.”

“I came here because I sensed a powerful, tainted soul,” Ireta continued, “but you burned it to ashes.”

Qin Chu glanced at the ashes where Ronald’s body had been, a flicker of understanding in his eyes.

Ireta shook her head again. “Please don’t apologize, sir.”

“That soul was filled with evil and very powerful. It would have been troublesome for me to deal with it. You saved me the trouble.”

After a brief pause, Ireta’s dark eyes met his.

Up close, her face was even more beautiful.

Perhaps, because of her aura, people subconsciously overlooked her beauty.

But she was a truly exquisite girl, like a beautiful doll.

“Hero,” she said, suddenly changing the subject, “would you like to make a deal with me?”

“A deal? What kind of deal?”

    Qin Chu was taken aback.

He didn’t think he had anything to trade with the Daughter of Death. A deal with Death? What could he offer? His life? His soul?

No one would consider a deal with Death a fortunate thing.

“You want to read the information recorded in this soul fragment, right?” Ireta asked. “If I’m not mistaken, this should be the soul crystal of the First Hero, Jie Luo.”

Qin Chu’s eyes narrowed. “But this soul fragment is empty…”

As expected, Ireta smiled. “There’s no such thing as a completely pure soul fragment. Even if the remnant soul within has vanished, it will still leave some traces behind.”

“Just because you can’t read it doesn’t mean I can’t.”

“Don’t forget whose authority I inherited.”

The authority of Death, the ability to deal with the souls of the dead.

Qin Chu’s eyes brightened. If there was any information left in the soul fragment, perhaps others couldn’t decipher it, but… the Daughter of Death might be able to.

If even she said it was empty, then he could truly give up.

“These residual traces are often hidden in the deepest, darkest corners. Without a deep understanding of souls, it’s indeed difficult to see them. I can help you decipher this fragment, but in return, you have to do me a favor,” Ireta said.

Qin Chu didn’t immediately agree. “What kind of favor?” he asked.

Although he wanted to know what was left in Jie Luo’s soul fragment, he was more worried that Ireta might ask him to do something terrible.

“I can’t tell you right now, but I can assure you, it won’t be anything cruel or unreasonable, like asking you to kill yourself or harm others,” Ireta assured him.

Qin Chu hesitated. He didn’t like this uncertainty.

But in the end, he handed her the soul fragment.

    Ireta smiled and took it.

Although she didn’t need to breathe, she took a deep breath as if she did, then stared at the soul fragment in her hand. Black, thread-like strands began to grow from her lace-gloved palm, wrapping around the fragment.

It seemed to be an extension of her consciousness, these threads probing every corner of the soul fragment.

No matter how deeply hidden the traces were, they couldn’t escape her perception.

This didn’t seem to be an easy task for Ireta. Her body trembled slightly, her already pale face turning even whiter.

Black fog began to swirl around her.

The screams and wails of the dead echoed.

As the one who intercepted their resentment, Ireta bore the brunt of their malice. Whether or not this resentment actually harmed her physically, just listening to those shrill cries and venomous curses every day was enough to shatter a person’s will.

Ireta had endured this for over a thousand years.

Her willpower was probably stronger than anyone Qin Chu had ever met.

The process lasted for a long time.

Suddenly, Ireta let out a long breath. “Found it,” she said.

Qin Chu perked up. Ireta closed her eyes, seemingly using her consciousness to carefully sense everything within the soul fragment.

Then, her thin lips parted slightly.

Although it was still her voice, her aura and tone seemed to have changed, becoming someone else entirely.

Her strange demeanor made Qin Chu’s hair stand on end.

And her words made his skin crawl.

    “I am Jie Luo.”

“If anyone is fortunate enough to see what I’ve left behind, then please remember this: don’t trust me, don’t trust anyone named Jie Luo.”

    “Because I am dead.”

    “Both body and soul!”

“They have stolen everything from me: my body, my memories, my soul…”

“If you, like me, are a visitor from another world, then leave this place. In this world, there is only indifference, ruthlessness, cruelty, deception, madness, greed, and lust…”

“This is a fucked up world…”

Ireta’s words sent a chill down Qin Chu’s spine. He felt as if insects were crawling on his skin, a profound fear gripping him, as if he were standing on the edge of a precipice, a bottomless abyss below.

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 217

Chapter 217: Want to Feel My Heartbeat?

    Approaching her meant death.

This reminded Qin Chu of a phrase: Death is like the wind, always by my side.

And then he remembered the unpleasant memories of being repeatedly killed by a certain someone.

He shook his head, trying to banish those thoughts.

But to the Daughter of Death, his action seemed like disbelief, and a troubled expression appeared on her face.

    She tapped her cheek thoughtfully.

After a moment, she looked at Qin Chu. “If you don’t believe me, you can try…”

She didn’t intend to kill him. She knew how important the Hero was to this world.

But if she just got a little closer, just enough for him to feel some discomfort, and then retreated immediately, it shouldn’t be fatal.

The Daughter of Death floated towards Qin Chu, her long legs, encased in black stockings, not moving at all. Hey, hey, hey, don’t come any closer! I believe you! There’s no need to prove anything… Qin Chu thought, his expression a mixture of amusement and apprehension.

He didn’t believe that such a beautiful girl could possess such a bizarre ability. To die just by getting close to her? Was that even possible?

But he also didn’t have the slightest urge to test it. Just in case.

Before he could protest, she had already moved a meter closer.

And that one meter made all the difference.

    Hum…

A heavy, oppressive weight pressed down on him, and he saw a vision of a swirling black fog, dark and turbulent, filled with pain, resentment, and despair.

Within the fog were countless fragmented memories, each one a scene of death and dying.

Eerie screams echoed in his ears, twisted figures writhing in agony.

I don’t want to die, I want to live.

This desperate plea, the culmination of millions, perhaps billions, of souls on the brink of death, their deepest resentment, the most twisted parts of their being, assaulted Qin Chu’s senses.

Their wails, like sharp claws, tore at his soul.

A sharp pain pierced his eyes, his muscles convulsing.

But Qin Chu’s strong will and powerful soul held firm, though the pain was almost unbearable. And this was just the effect of her being one meter closer. If she continued…

    But then, something strange happened.

The small sapling within him, usually quiet, only interested in consuming his experience, suddenly reacted.

    Its two leaves rustled.

A vibrant green light emanated from Qin Chu’s body, the aura of life pushing back against the encroaching death.

The black fog receded, the screams faded, and the pain subsided.

    His mind cleared.

    “Huh?”

The Daughter of Death was puzzled. She had never encountered such resistance before.

She moved closer, but there was no reaction from Qin Chu, the green light fading.

She was now standing right before him.

Up close, her beauty was even more captivating, strangely alluring.

Despite her dark attire and unsettling aura, she was truly beautiful, her face almost childlike, a hint of innocence in her features.

Her figure was slender, her chest small but not flat. She was definitely not as…developed… as Louisa.

Her waist was so slender it seemed like it could be snapped with a single hand.

At this moment, the Daughter of Death displayed a childlike curiosity, circling Qin Chu, her eyes studying him intently.

She even felt the urge to poke his face.

She didn’t understand why he wasn’t affected by her aura of death.

Suddenly, her dark eyes lit up, and she exclaimed, “The Seed of Life! It’s within you, isn’t it?”

“It has sprouted. Perhaps one day it will grow into the Tree of Life.”

“Life and death… No wonder you’re not afraid of my aura.”

Qin Chu’s lips twitched. So it really was going to grow into a tree?

Could you please leave my body? he pleaded inwardly. I’ll find you a nice pot.

But the sapling had no intention of leaving.

It had found a good host.

    It wasn’t stupid!

How much nourishment could it get from a pot compared to the endless supply within this man’s body?

Besides, the other parasites hadn’t left, so why should it?

No, no, no! It wouldn’t leave!

The two leaves within Qin Chu swayed, seemingly mocking his helplessness.

The Daughter of Death was delighted, her eyes narrowing into crescent moons.

Perhaps it had been a long, long time since she had been so close to another living being.

Because of her aura of death, anyone who approached her would die. Even mosquitoes wouldn’t bite her.

She couldn’t even stay in a forest for too long, the trees around her withering.

Her black hair and eyes, common on Earth, were rare in this world.

It even made Qin Chu feel a strange sense of familiarity.

With her black stockings, she was the perfect embodiment of “black, long, straight” hair.

After a moment of silent joy, the Daughter of Death seemed to realize that her behavior was a bit impolite. She stuck out her tongue slightly. “Ah, I apologize,” she said, “I haven’t introduced myself.”

She took a step back, every movement graceful and ladylike.

    “My name is Ireta.”

“If I’m not mistaken, I should be the Daughter of Death, one of the thirteen remaining Witches.”

“And also… the agent of Death.”

Qin Chu bowed elegantly. “Qin Chu, the Hero,” he replied simply.

Then he asked, “Can you tell me what you mean by ‘agent of Death’?”

He had been curious about this title.

He understood the literal meaning, but he didn’t understand why the Daughter of Death would be an agent of Death.

“A thousand years ago, the gods perished, their authorities scattered across the land, and the Witches were born.”

“And I inherited the authority of Death.”

“Just as you inherited the Seed of Life.”

“Ah, please don’t misunderstand, Mr. Qin,” Ireta quickly added, waving her hand slightly, “Death isn’t about reaping lives, as you might think.”

“The authority of Death is actually about souls.”

“Souls, in essence, are also a form of energy, just a very special kind.”

Ireta wasn’t a quiet person. She would occasionally speak, but usually only to the dead. Perhaps because it had been so long since she had a normal conversation with a living person, she seemed unusually talkative.

“Those who die unjustly often have a lot of resentment in their souls, which causes them to linger in this world, eventually becoming ghosts. My job is to cleanse this resentment, to purify their souls and transform them into pure soul energy, sending them to where they belong, preventing the human world from being overrun by ghosts.”

    Qin Chu understood now.

It seemed that Shaye’s wariness of the Daughter of Death wasn’t unfounded.

Even someone like Violet couldn’t withstand the corruption of Divine Authority, gradually descending into madness.

But Ireta not only hadn’t been corrupted… or perhaps she had been, but she had overcome it. She had even mastered the authority, acting as an agent of Death.

And it was thanks to her.

Think about it, a thousand years, such a long time.

How many people had died in the Heavenly Continent during this time?

If it weren’t for Ireta cleansing the souls of the dead, this world would probably be uninhabitable, overrun by ghosts…

After her long explanation, Ireta seemed to realize how much she had been talking.

    This puzzled her.

Although meeting someone she could talk to, someone who could approach her, was indeed a joyful thing, there was also a special aura about this man that drew her in.

    She couldn’t understand this feeling.

Shaking her head, she stopped thinking about it.

Not dwelling on things she couldn’t understand was how she had endured her loneliness for a thousand years.

“Your talent is truly amazing,” Qin Chu said with sincere admiration, “Violet told me that almost all the Witches who inherited Divine Authorities a thousand years ago went mad. But you haven’t been affected by the authority of Death, you’ve even mastered it.”

“Not affected? Mastered it?” The Daughter of Death murmured these words.

After a few seconds, her dark eyes stared into Qin Chu’s. “Hero,” she asked, “do you want to feel my heartbeat?”

    Huh?

    What did she mean?

How… how was he supposed to feel it?

    This wasn’t appropriate, was it?

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 216

Chapter 216: Want to Know What’s in the Soul Fragment?

Letting Ronald know that everything he had done had only benefited Qin Chu was the most effective way to inflict pain and despair.

    Nothing could be more agonizing.

To think that he had endured so much in the Demon Beast territory, faced such danger, even suffered the humiliation of thousands of Demon Beasts, only for Jie Luo’s soul fragment to fall into Qin Chu’s hands, benefiting this devil…

A sharp pain stabbed at Ronald’s chest, and he spat out a mouthful of blood.

He pointed a trembling finger at Qin Chu, “You… you… you…”

He wanted to curse him, but he couldn’t speak.

“By the way,” Qin Chu continued, his voice dripping with malice, “this soul fragment is really useful. I used it before to disguise myself as Jie Luo… and Athena actually fell for it, offering herself to me.”

“I’ll put this soul fragment to good use too. Who do you think I should use it on?”

    “Loseweisse? Airi? Eileen? Or Sylph?”

    Ronald’s body trembled violently. “You… you… you wouldn’t dare…”

“Ah, right,” Qin Chu continued, “although I’m going to kill you soon, I’ve told Lomond to pretend that you’re still alive, to spread the word that you’re imprisoned.”

“What do you think? Will your… close comrades… come to rescue you?”

“I imagine it would be Eileen and Airi, right? Lomond is waiting for them. Do you think they’ll be captured? And if they are, what do you think will happen to them?”

Ronald’s eyes almost bulged from their sockets.

He remembered his own ordeal. Even he, a man, couldn’t bear it. If it were Eileen and Airi, two delicate girls, their fate would be hundreds of times worse.

The thought that he would cause the deaths of other Hero Squad members was a devastating blow.

“Oh, and I also told Lomond to spread the word about your… entertainment… in the Demon Beast camp, to let everyone know…”

Ronald trembled violently. The future of the Hero Squad was bleak. He would be responsible for the deaths of Eileen and Airi. His reputation would be ruined, he would become a laughingstock, and Jie Luo’s resurrection would be impossible…

He raised a trembling arm, pointing at Qin Chu:

    “Devil…”

    “You’re a devil!”

His shrill scream was like the howl of a wounded beast.

What kind of monster had Sage Mountain summoned?

Ronald’s body convulsed, a sharp pain piercing his heart, as if something inside had shattered. He spat out a mouthful of blood.

Then, with a final shudder, his arm fell limp.

    He was still.

Qin Chu could sense that his heartbeat and breathing had stopped.

Dead? He had actually died from anger and shock?

    Good riddance!

But Ronald’s tolerance was too low. Was he Wang Lang, dying from Zhuge Liang’s scolding?

*(In Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel) Zhuge Liang among other things scolded him(Wang Lang) as a dog and a traitor, from the shock of which he fell off his horse and died on the spot.*

Couldn’t he learn from him, Qin Chu? Be magnanimous, don’t take everything so seriously.

Such a narrow-minded person, dying from anger, deserved it.

The night wind blew, and Qin Chu felt a sense of satisfaction. Another enemy eliminated.

Silver flames erupted from his palm, engulfing Ronald’s body.

The twitching corpse quickly burned, flesh turning to ash, even his soul screaming as it dissipated.

Ronald, the Noble Swordsman, vanished from this world without a trace.

Qin Chu wouldn’t leave any clues behind. Although leaving Ronald’s soul to witness the spread of his humiliation throughout the human world, to watch his companions being deceived and killed one by one, would be incredibly satisfying, it was better to eliminate all possibilities.

He hadn’t even kept Benson’s soul, so he wouldn’t keep Ronald’s either.

He even threw Ronald’s storage ring into the silver flames, though he had transferred the contents beforehand.

After killing Ronald, a sense of satisfaction filled Qin Chu, followed by a slight emptiness.

He wondered if this was what it meant to be a sage.

He mocked himself inwardly, then sat down, leaning against a tree trunk.

He took out Jie Luo’s soul fragment. Compared to the one he had obtained from Violet, this one was slightly larger.

Clear and translucent, like a beautiful glass bead.

Qin Chu hoped to find some useful information within it, but he was also worried that it would be empty like the first one.

After a brief hesitation, he immersed his consciousness into the soul fragment.

Soon, he sighed. As he had feared, this soul fragment was also empty, devoid of any information.

This frustrated him. An empty soul fragment was useless… He even wondered if they could truly resurrect Jie Luo with such empty fragments.

Would they resurrect a soulless puppet?

Or summon a new consciousness from the Void and call it Jie Luo?

He felt that there was something strange about the mysterious person giving Loseweisse the scroll with the Resurrection Technique, asking her to resurrect Jie Luo.

Shaking his head, Qin Chu stood up, feeling a little disappointed, and put the soul fragment into his storage ring. It might still be useful later.

He was about to return to the camp.

“Are you trying to find the information recorded in the soul fragment?”

A soft, ethereal voice suddenly drifted into his ears, carried by the night wind.

“Yes, but unfortunately, it’s empty,” Qin Chu replied instinctively.

But then his eyes narrowed, and his expression quickly turned into his usual gentle smile.

He turned slightly, his gaze fixed on the figure behind him.

Under the moonlight, a young woman stood silently.

    No, not standing.

Looking closely, she was floating slightly above the ground, her delicate toes not touching the fallen leaves.

Her long black hair, the same color as his, fluttered in the breeze. She had the same dark eyes as him. Her slender body was clad in a black lace dress, her long legs and feet encased in black stockings.

    She looked stunning in stockings.

Under the moonlight, the thin fabric of her dress revealed the curves of her thighs, her slender calves seemingly glowing.

Through the sheer stockings, he could see the delicate outlines of her feet, the arches of her feet slightly curved. The black stockings shimmered faintly in the moonlight.

She seemed to be made for stockings, the embodiment of the Stocking Woman!

Even her hands were covered in black lace gloves.

Her entire being seemed to melt into the night.

And in stark contrast to her black attire, her face, her neck, her chest, all exposed skin, were incredibly fair.

She exuded a strange aura that made people overlook her beautiful, even cute, face at first glance.

There was a strange, alluring beauty about her.

Even Qin Chu hadn’t noticed her presence until she spoke.

He didn’t sense any immediate danger, no strong hostility. If she wanted to attack, a sneak attack would have been more effective.

    But he remained vigilant.

He was curious about her identity.

“Be careful, that’s the Daughter of Death…” Shaye’s voice echoed in his mind, revealing the girl’s identity.

Facing the Daughter of Death, Shaye remained silent, not daring to emerge from Qin Chu’s body.

After all, the Daughter of Death was far more dangerous than the Storm Witch. Who knew what would happen if she sensed Shaye’s presence?

Shaye’s voice was filled with irritation, “Damn it, what does that hateful Witch want?”

Qin Chu could almost imagine Shaye pouting and stomping her feet in his mind.

    The Daughter of Death?

The one who had purified tens of thousands of souls on the battlefield?

As Qin Chu pondered, the Daughter of Death also seemed to be lost in thought. She tilted her head slightly, glancing at the ashes where Ronald’s body had been incinerated, a look of disappointment on her face.

“The soul was burned so thoroughly,” she murmured.

“I sensed a powerful, tainted soul waiting to be reaped, but you burned it to ashes.”

“Is that so?” Qin Chu said, touching his nose with a slightly apologetic look, “Then I apologize.”

The girl shook her head slightly, her long black hair swaying. Her eyes, with their upturned corners, were like dark gems, staring at Qin Chu. “There’s no need to apologize, sir,” she said, her voice soft and ethereal, yet with a chilling undertone.

She lifted the hem of her lace skirt and curtsied gracefully, despite the distance between them. “We are the ones who should apologize,” she said.

“Please allow me, as the agent of Death, to offer you our sincerest apologies on behalf of this world.”

    “I’m sorry, Hero.”

“This filthy and corrupted world is not worthy of your kindness.”

    Qin Chu’s eyes narrowed.

He noted her self-proclaimed title: agent of Death?

It seemed he was about to learn something very interesting.

Seeing that even while apologizing, she kept her distance, Qin Chu frowned and took a step forward, trying to get closer.

But as he moved, the Daughter of Death silently floated backwards.

    Her reaction puzzled him.

“I apologize, Hero, I know this is impolite, but all life that approaches me dies,” she explained, a hint of sadness in her voice.

This reminded Qin Chu of a phrase:

Death is like the wind, always by my side.

  • Dear, it’s time for your medicine! 215

Chapter 215: To Kill and Crush the Spirit

    Ronald’s mind was in chaos.

    He was completely bewildered.

This man before him was Qin Chu, the Second Hero? Why was he here? Hadn’t Loseweisse said he was at the front lines fighting the Demon Beasts?

And why did he have Jie Luo’s soul fragment?

How did he know he was looking for it?

Countless questions flooded his mind, making his head throb. He vaguely sensed a vast conspiracy, a net closing in around him.

If Ronald could calm down, he might have been able to piece together the truth, but his mind, ravaged by Lomond’s torments, was on the verge of collapse.

The soul fragment in Qin Chu’s hand, shimmering like a transparent stone, captivated Ronald completely, leaving him no room for rational thought.

He lunged towards Qin Chu like a madman.

    “Give it back!”

“Ronald,” Qin Chu said, raising an eyebrow, his voice laced with a cruel amusement, “you wouldn’t want me to crush it, would you?”

Ronald stopped abruptly, his eyes filled with hatred.

“You know my name?” he asked, his voice laced with venom.

Knowing that Qin Chu was the Second Hero intensified his hatred. Any lingering guilt he might have felt for wanting to kill the man who had rescued him vanished.

“Of course,” Qin Chu smiled. “Who doesn’t know the name of Ronald, the Noble Swordsman? So handsome and elegant, all those empty-headed noble ladies in the Imperial City are infatuated with you.”

“What do you think would happen to their fantasies if they knew that their noble swordsman had become… the Blanched Swordsman, even bending over for the Demon Beasts? Spreading his cheeks for their… entertainment?”

“That would be quite a sight, wouldn’t it?”

Ronald trembled, his face pale. Qin Chu’s words brought back the humiliating memories, and he let out a scream, “How… how do you know about that?!”

Qin Chu rubbed his forehead with a look of mock concern. “You used to be such a smart man, so meticulous,” he said. “Can’t you see something so obvious?”

    Ronald’s heart sank.

    His throat tightened.

From the moment the Second Hero was summoned, to now, with Jie Luo’s soul fragment in his hand, and then Qin Chu’s words…

A terrifying realization dawned on him.

The man before him wasn’t just a human, but a devil.

He gasped, his heart constricting, his eyes filled with despair. “You and Lomond…”

“Yes, we’ve been in contact for a while. He’s a very useful tool,” Qin Chu readily admitted.

“You know how satisfying it was for me to hear that he arranged for a few thousand Demon Beasts to… entertain… you?”

Qin Chu spread his hands, his face a mask of mock piety. “That feeling…”

    “So delightful!”

But Ronald didn’t feel any delight at all.

His chest felt tight, a suffocating pressure that made him want to vomit blood. His heart ached, filled with rage and resentment.

His mind cleared, the pieces of the puzzle falling into place.

    “Benson’s death…”

“That’s right. I provided Lomond with Benson’s location. And I also took his Pseudo-Absolute Defense ability,” Qin Chu smiled, delivering another blow, “So don’t even think about killing me. You’re not capable, understand?”

“Not to mention that you’re a cripple now. Even if you still had your strength, you couldn’t kill me.”

    The word “cripple” stung.

    “My location…” Ronald rasped.

    “I leaked that too.”

“And I told Lomond about Eileen helping you. Even that large-scale attack was my suggestion.”

“Simply put, without me, Lomond couldn’t have captured you. And you wouldn’t have had to…”

Ronald couldn’t take it anymore and roared, “Damn it, can you stop mentioning that?!”

“Fine, I don’t mind,” Qin Chu agreed magnanimously. He was truly merciful.

“Was all of this… your plan?”

“Of course. But I prefer the term ‘strategy’,” Qin Chu nodded.

Ronald’s rage intensified, his chest heaving. “Bastard!” he roared, “Are you even worthy of being called the Hero? You betrayed humanity!”

“No, no, no,” Qin Chu shook his head, refusing to accept such a grand accusation, “I didn’t betray all of humanity. Apart from the members of your Hero Squad, I haven’t harmed anyone…”

Well, the Grand Prince… but that guy was no longer human in the end.

“Do you know what people call me now? A descending angel, an emissary of the goddess. I seem to be even more popular than the First Hero, Jie Luo.”

“And if anyone betrayed anyone, it wasn’t me betraying you, it was you who betrayed me.”

“You didn’t think I knew nothing about your Hero Squad’s little plan, did you?” Qin Chu dropped another bombshell.

Ronald’s eyes widened in shock, his body trembling. This man knew everything? This was the worst-case scenario.

Only the members of the Hero Squad knew about their plan. How did this bastard Qin Chu find out?

Could there be a traitor among them?

    This thought infuriated Ronald.

This was betrayal, not just against him, but against Lord Jie Luo.

“Think what you will. I won’t tell you who the traitor is…”

Actually, among the surviving members, Eileen, Airi, Loseweisse, and Muse the Mad were still relatively normal. Ekaterina was a confirmed traitor, Athena was also a traitor, and even Sylph could be considered half a traitor.

Qin Chu wondered if, after a few more deaths, everyone except Loseweisse would be a traitor?

“But I can tell you one thing, that idiot Loseweisse actually suspected Augustus.”

    Hiss…

Ronald trembled. He now understood that the Hero Squad’s situation was even worse than he had imagined. This devil, Qin Chu, had used his methods to turn the entire squad into a mess.

“I had no grudge against you, yet you wanted to kill me for a dead man, Jie Luo. And you don’t even allow me to retaliate? What kind of absurd rule is that… This was just self-defense, so there’s nothing wrong with it.”

Qin Chu smiled, enjoying Ronald’s rage, hatred, and despair. The more intense his emotions, the more satisfied he felt.

Ronald gasped for breath, his mind reeling from the successive blows. The future of the Hero Squad seemed bleak.

His face was filled with sorrow:

“Aren’t you afraid of this being exposed?”

Qin Chu seemed puzzled, “Why would I be afraid?”

“It was Lomond who killed Benson and you. He will gladly take the credit.”

“I killed Karsus, but it was in the name of justice. No one will blame me, they will only thank me for eliminating a threat… Oh, and by the way, I was the one who guided Karsus towards his fall, just so I could have a legitimate reason to execute him publicly.”

Ronald collapsed to the ground, his strength gone. He didn’t even feel the pain as his wounds were aggravated, only a numb trembling.

This enemy was far more terrifying than he had imagined.

He was meticulous and cunning, his plans carefully laid.

He was vicious and cruel, capable of anything.

And his talent was extraordinary, his strength growing at an alarming rate.

He was the most terrifying, the most despair-inducing enemy.

“Why… why are you so cruel?” Ronald whispered, all hope lost.

    “Cruel?”

“No, Ronald,” Qin Chu’s voice was cold and filled with satisfaction, “Do you have the right to call me cruel? Do any of you in the Hero Squad have that right? You used me, discarded me, betrayed my trust, slandered my name, and had me publicly dismembered, my body and limbs scattered to the corners of the earth, my head buried beneath the Holy City, to be trampled upon for all eternity…”

His voice rose to a low growl.

“Compared to what you did to me, I’m being merciful…”

Then, his tone shifted, the oppressive weight lifting, replaced by a chilling amusement. “By the way, Ronald, did you know?”

“Benson’s death gave me the Pseudo-Absolute Defense ability.”

“Karsus’s death earned me the titles of Divine Emissary and Descending Angel.”

“And you… you brought me Jie Luo’s soul fragment.”

    “Thank you.”

    Pfft!

Ronald, already on the verge of collapse, couldn’t take it anymore. He spat out a mouthful of blood.

To kill and then crush the spirit, nothing more.
