    Chapter 100

“Live with me in this era.”

Lou Mi’s words kept Chi Lin awake.

Normally, after drinking and a hot bath, she would have been asleep for hours.

But Chi Lin lay awake, staring at the uncurtained window.

The city lights dimmed the stars, even at this late hour.

Whether due to the lights or the change in location, the stars Chi Lin used to count were now invisible.

She went to the kitchen for some water, then tossed and turned, still unable to sleep.

This era was fast-paced and direct, superficial and entertainment-driven, yet it was also vibrant and fascinating. She had learned things she had never imagined, witnessed the boundless wonders of this world.

And this was Her Majesty’s era, the era that shaped and nurtured her, where she had her family and friends, her memories, her empire.

She hadn’t regained many of her past life memories, but Chi Lin knew that even if she did, Lou Mi accompanying her back to Dayuan to restore their nation would be a long shot.

Hunger, war, disease, a life without modern conveniences… Lou Mi wouldn’t be able to adapt.

    She couldn’t stay in Dayuan.

Chi Lin tossed and turned, restless.

    Knock, knock.

    Someone knocked on her door.

Chi Lin recognized the rhythm; it was Lou Mi.

Lou Mi knew Chi Lin must be tired after the live stream and the dinner, so she had let her sleep alone, afraid of disturbing her.

“I saw you go to the kitchen. Are you too tired to sleep?”

Chi Lin got out of bed and opened the door. Lou Mi leaned against the doorframe, the warm hallway light illuminating her gentle, slightly worried face.

“You’re still awake? It’s so late, what’s wrong?” Lou Mi touched her face.

Her hand, usually cold, was warm now, not her usual body temperature, she must have just warmed them up.

    Chi Lin noticed the detail.

    “You’re not asleep either.”

“No.” Lou Mi readily admitted, “I miss you.”

    Chi Lin smiled at her.

“Do you want me to stay with you?” Lou Mi noticed Chi Lin’s slight chill, probably from tossing and turning.

Chi Lin didn’t answer, but her eyes held a silent plea.

Lou Mi kissed her forehead and entered the room.

When they first met, Lou Mi hadn’t seemed like a particularly caring person, her words sharp, her temper short.

But the more they interacted, the more Chi Lin realized how deeply caring she was.

Lou Mi hugged her from behind, her warmth seeping through their pajamas, melting away Chi Lin’s restlessness.

“What are you thinking about?” Lou Mi’s arm wrapped around Chi Lin’s waist, her hand holding Chi Lin’s.

    “Just some random things.”

“Sigh,” Lou Mi said, “Did what I said earlier put pressure on you?”

Chi Lin didn’t answer immediately. Lou Mi chuckled softly in her ear:

“I was just acting spoiled. Where you want to stay is your decision. Our situation is unique; there’s no precedent. Dayuan is your home. I’m being selfish, of course. Leave the memory recovery to me, you focus on your studies and the college entrance exams. When everything is ready, we’ll go back and restore Dayuan, resolve your worries, and then you can settle down here with me. We’ll get married, play games together, travel the world. You wanted to see Earth from space, right? Space travel is very popular now, we can go anytime. Not just Earth, we can tour the entire solar system. And when we’re too old to travel, we’ll find a beautiful place to grow old together.”

Lou Mi’s words were simple and sweet, filled with hope and sincerity.

“That’s my wishful thinking. Just imagining it makes me happy.” Lou Mi seemed to wake from a beautiful dream, facing reality. “That’s my wish, but I know you have your own considerations.”

Held in Lou Mi’s comforting embrace, Chi Lin could barely think.

Comfort and stability made one resistant to change.

Chi Lin had found some historical fragments about Dayuan. The dynasty had ended, lost to the currents of time.

Could history be rewritten? And if it were, would it affect this world?

    Did her efforts even matter?

Her body was still in the abyss, severely injured. If she returned, she would have to use that body.

    Would she even survive?

Even if she knew who killed Her Majesty, could she, with the help of a few loyal officials and General Chen’s remaining troops, turn the tide?

From her experience, it was highly unlikely, almost impossible.

Chi Lin asked herself—if she died in Dayuan, what would happen to Her Majesty in this life?

She had been reincarnated, started a new life, and Chi Lin had found her.

This life was bright and safe, everything was perfect, all she had to do was relax and enjoy it.

If she let go of her past life…

    It was tempting.

But then, what about the Imperial Preceptor who sacrificed his life, the loyal officials who placed their hopes on her, Her Majesty’s people, the legacy of Dayuan… what about them?

The guilt would haunt her forever.

Even without Chi Lin speaking, Lou Mi sensed her emotional turmoil from her subtle changes in breathing and the tension in her body.

She tightened her embrace, their fingers interlaced.

“Although I want you to stay, I won’t force you, not now, not ever. I know how you were raised, studying the classics at the Imperial Academy, your unwavering loyalty to the Empress. You’re the hope of your nation, the backbone of Dayuan. If you abandon your duty, you’ll never be at peace. Little Lin, no matter what you choose, I…” Lou Mi held her close.

“I’ll always be by your side, protecting you, I won’t let you be alone again.”

Chi Lin turned and looked into her eyes.

“I should be the one protecting Your Majesty. I was born for you, my life is yours.”

A pang of emotion shot through Lou Mi’s heart.

Chi Lin, held tightly in her embrace, felt the warmth spreading through her body.

Lou Mi kissed her, but even this close, she felt a sense of distance.

She knew how deeply Chi Lin loved her, a love that transcended lifetimes, a devotion that endured through reincarnation. How many people could find such a love?

She was incredibly lucky to have Chi Lin’s love.

Chi Lin, gripping her arm, stirred restlessly.

Lou Mi followed her lead, gently guiding her, her touch soothing.

Chi Lin, under Her Majesty’s tutelage, was no stranger to intimacy, but in this new body, the sensations were heightened, more intense than she had ever imagined.

    “Your Majesty, Your Majesty…”

Chi Lin’s head tilted back, her fingers tracing Lou Mi’s spine, her voice almost a whisper.

Lou Mi, like a young animal exploring new territory, was unrestrained.

She savored the taste of her lover, lost in the moment.

    ***

Young and full of energy, they didn’t stop until dawn, finally falling asleep in each other’s arms.

Lou Mi’s alarm rang three times before Chi Lin reached out and turned it off. Lou Mi, her eyes heavy, nuzzled Chi Lin’s chest and groaned, reluctant to wake up.

Chi Lin, still half-asleep, stroked her hair and nuzzled her chin against her head:

    “It’s Saturday…”

“I know, I have to go to the club, to finalize the second team selection, you can go back to sleep.”

Chi Lin opened her eyes: “I’ll go with you.”

Lou Mi, still with her eyes closed, smiled:

“I don’t want to leave you either, baby, but you’re tired, I kept you up all night, just rest, I’ll be back this afternoon.”

She had wanted to tell Chi Lin to study, but changed her mind:

“Just do whatever you want, and we’ll have dinner together tonight.”

“Okay.” Chi Lin tucked Lou Mi’s hair behind her ear, her voice soft. “I’ll finish my homework and wait for you.”

They had breakfast together, sweet and affectionate. As Lou Mi left, she pinned Chi Lin against the door and kissed her repeatedly, reluctant to let go.

Chi Lin finally managed to persuade her to leave.

Despite her martial arts training, Chi Lin’s body ached.

Her Majesty’s prowess in this area was unmatched…

Alone at home on the weekend, Chi Lin sat at the low table and started writing.

The brush strokes on the paper and the scent of ink calmed her mind.

She had to return to Dayuan, to fulfill her promise, to resolve her past life’s unfinished business, so she could fully embrace this life and continue to protect Her Majesty.

If her body in the abyss was still usable, that was ideal. If not, could her soul, upon returning to Dayuan, find another connected body? It was highly likely.

No matter the obstacles, she would restore her nation.

And she would also take the college entrance exams. She knew that in this era, everyone went to university, it was an essential step before entering society.

It was completely different from high school. To live a good life in this era, she needed to get into a good university and find a fulfilling career.

Esports was just a temporary measure, to help Lou Mi and Nine Heavens. If she were to choose a long-term career, she would probably choose something else.

She had asked Mr. System about universities before and had a general idea, but she was still unsure about choosing a major and the exam itself.

She sent a message in her study group chat with Wei Zhuoning and Lin Xiaozhi:

“Are you free today? Let’s chat, drinks are on me.”

She waited until noon, finishing her lunch and homework, but there was no reply.

Neither Wei Zhuoning nor Lin Xiaozhi showed up.

Where were they? Chi Lin wondered. Had they both disappeared?

Lin Xiaozhi woke up alone in the soft hotel bed.

    Wei Zhuoning was gone.

She rubbed her sleepy eyes and heard the water running in the bathroom.

    Up so early.

Lin Xiaozhi glanced at her phone. 11:30 am. They had slept for less than two hours.

    Had she not slept well?

Lin Xiaozhi, wearing only underwear, walked towards the bathroom. Passing by the mirror, she noticed the faint marks from Wei Zhuoning’s playful bites on her shoulder and couldn’t help but smile.

The water stopped running. Wei Zhuoning’s phone rang. She answered:

“Mom, yes, I was with my classmates… singing karaoke all night, yes, it was a classmate’s birthday. I’m coming home, I’ll be back soon, do you need me to bring anything? Okay, I’ll see you later.”

After hanging up and a moment of silence, Wei Zhuoning emerged from the bathroom, drying her hair with a towel, and was startled by Lin Xiaozhi standing by the door.

“What are you doing?!” Wei Zhuoning quickly averted her gaze. “Why aren’t you wearing any clothes?!”

“It’s too much trouble to get dressed, I’ll just have to take them off again anyway.”

Wei Zhuoning muttered “crazy” under her breath and walked towards the sofa:

“I have to go home now.”

“Aren’t you tired? Leaving so soon?”

“My mom has mobility issues, I can’t stay out too long, or she’ll go hungry.” Wei Zhuoning’s naturally curly hair was even more voluminous after washing, and she hadn’t bothered to comb it, the messy curls mirroring her hurried movements.

“Leaving already?” Lin Xiaozhi hugged her from behind, her chin resting on Wei Zhuoning’s shoulder, her arms wrapping around her waist. “Did you learn anything from last night’s lesson?”

Wei Zhuoning didn’t dare to look at her. As she tried to zip up her jacket, Lin Xiaozhi’s hand stopped her, pulling the zipper down, undoing it.

“No…” Wei Zhuoning whispered, shaking her head. “We can’t.”

    “Why not?”

    “I can’t take it anymore…”

“What do you mean? Was it uncomfortable?” Lin Xiaozhi pushed her onto the sofa.

Wei Zhuoning shook her head in her embrace.

“Really? Then who was begging me to go faster this morning?”

Wei Zhuoning struggled: “Why are you saying this now?!”

Lin Xiaozhi wouldn’t let her go.

Why was she being so difficult?

Lin Xiaozhi took off her jacket, then pulled her shirt out of her skirt.

“No…” Wei Zhuoning, pinned beneath her, struggled weakly, tears welling up in her eyes.

“Why not?” Lin Xiaozhi didn’t understand. “Don’t you like me?”

    “It’s not that…”

    “You do like me, right?”

Wei Zhuoning’s back trembled. Lin Xiaozhi, despite the initial resistance, could feel Wei Zhuoning’s passion.

    She was clearly enjoying it.

“Do you like it? Answer me.”

Lin Xiaozhi whispered in her ear.

Tears rolled down Wei Zhuoning’s cheeks as she nodded, biting her lip.

Lin Xiaozhi, unable to see her face because of their position, was driven to distraction by the sight of her flushed neck and trembling shoulders.

Wei Zhuoning’s vulnerability was beyond endearing.

The little rabbit was already adorable, but a tearful, trembling little rabbit, wanting to bite but holding back, was irresistible.

Lin Xiaozhi couldn’t stop, didn’t want to stop, lost in the moment…

Only when Wei Zhuoning cried out in pain did Lin Xiaozhi snap out of it.

    Blood.

    Lin Xiaozhi froze. How…?

Wei Zhuoning, still catching her breath, quickly got dressed and ran. Lin Xiaozhi, startled, tried to follow but realized she was still naked.

    “Zhuoning!”

By the time Lin Xiaozhi, wrapped in a bathrobe, reached the hallway, Wei Zhuoning was already in the elevator.

    Damn it.

Lin Xiaozhi rushed downstairs, but by the time she reached the lobby, Wei Zhuoning was gone.

Passersby stared at the beautiful girl in a bathrobe. Lin Xiaozhi, frustrated, returned to her room.

Why hadn’t she said anything earlier?

If she had, Lin Xiaozhi wouldn’t have pushed her.

Back in the room, she found Wei Zhuoning’s purse, filled with girly trinkets, but her phone was gone, she must have taken it with her.

Lin Xiaozhi called her, but she didn’t answer. She sent a message:

“Zhuoning, I was too hasty, I’m sorry. Forgive me, it was my first time too… I don’t want to say I lost control because I like you too much, but I hurt you. I’m worried, please reply, let me apologize in person.”

Lin Xiaozhi was frantic. She packed her things, checked out of the hotel, and went to Wei Zhuoning’s apartment.

Reaching her community, she finally received a reply:

“I’m not angry. Just give me some time, okay?”

Lin Xiaozhi’s heart ached, tears falling onto the screen.

She wiped her tears and replied: “Okay, I’ll see you at school tomorrow…”

    Wei Zhuoning didn’t reply.

Lin Xiaozhi was listless all day. Her mother had a party that evening, a rooftop gathering with celebrities and entrepreneurs. They all came to greet her, but she barely responded, her mind elsewhere. She called Chi Lin.

    “Lin, help me.”

Lin Xiaozhi hid in a quiet corner, smoking and rubbing her temples.

“What’s wrong?” Chi Lin said. “I’ve been looking for you all day, finally found one of you.”

“Can you contact Zhuoning for me? She’s not talking to me, but she might listen to you.”

    “What happened?”

Lin Xiaozhi briefly explained. Chi Lin, having dinner with Lou Mi, noticed Lou Mi’s face turning redder and redder as she listened.

“So…” Chi Lin sighed. Young people were truly reckless.

    She glanced at Lou Mi.

Lou Mi, innocently eating her dinner: “?”

“It’s probably nothing serious, maybe she was just, um, scared.”

Chi Lin couldn’t say much with Lou Mi watching.

Lin Xiaozhi, however, was blunt: “Scared? Too much, or the wrong method? Too rough?”

Chi Lin was at a loss for words, her fingers tapping nervously on the table.

As a mature woman in her thirties, although shy, Chi Lin knew about these things.

How could one be so careless with a girl’s first time? And even injure her…

Lin Xiaozhi, usually so mature and composed, was still young and inexperienced.

Many high schoolers in this era were like that, driven by passion and lacking experience.

It was common to get hurt.

Like Lou Mi, 25, no relationship experience, zero experience in bed, yet last night, she had been surprisingly energetic, her techniques seemingly learned from textbooks, mistaking Chi Lin’s protests for playful teasing. Her stamina was also impressive.

Just like Her Majesty in their past life.

Chi Lin had needed half the morning to recover.

Thinking of this, she glanced at Lou Mi again.

Lou Mi, still eating innocently: “??”

“Maybe it was the method,” Chi Lin said hesitantly, almost sweating, and Lin Xiaozhi finally realized:

“Is it inconvenient for you to talk?”

Chi Lin was relieved: “A little.”

She didn’t want Lou Mi to know she was discussing a girl’s first time.

Lou Mi mouthed silently, “Who is it?”

Chi Lin mouthed back, “Lin Xiaozhi.”

Lou Mi understood. That foxy deskmate.

She shouldn’t intrude on their conversation.

Lou Mi nodded and took their empty dishes to the kitchen.

Chi Lin stopped her. Lou Mi looked back at her, pouted slightly, and left.

Was Her Majesty angry? She had always been wary of Lin Xiaozhi.

But Chi Lin couldn’t just ignore Lin Xiaozhi…

Chi Lin sighed: “I’ll contact Zhuoning and let you know later.”

    “Okay, thanks, Lin.”

“No problem, I’ll keep you updated.”

Chi Lin hung up and went to the kitchen.

Lou Mi was loading the dishwasher. Chi Lin followed her.

“Done already?” Lou Mi was surprised.

“Lin Xiaozhi and her girlfriend had a disagreement, she asked for my advice.”

“Oh, seeking guidance from big sister.” Lou Mi teased, then paused. “Wait, does she know your real age?”

“No.” Chi Lin noticed the change in Lou Mi’s tone, she was the jealous type, especially when it came to Lin Xiaozhi.

“I didn’t tell her. No one knows except you and me.” Chi Lin quickly explained.

Lou Mi, seeing her nervousness, smiled and closed the dishwasher:

    “What, afraid I’ll be jealous?”

Chi Lin sighed: “I’m glad you’re not. I’m 32, my classmates are barely 20, they’re practically children in my eyes. I can offer some advice, but anything else is impossible.”

Lou Mi nodded: “I can tell.”

Chi Lin was puzzled: “Tell what?”

“That you’re afraid of me being jealous, that’s why you’re explaining so much.” Lou Mi hugged her waist. “What, do you think I’m that petty? The type to get jealous over a simple conversation?”

    Chi Lin smiled: “Aren’t you?”

Lou Mi nibbled on her neck: “There are other, more effective ways to reassure me.”

The ache in Chi Lin’s back had just subsided, and now Lou Mi wanted to be intimate again. Chi Lin groaned inwardly.

But after a few kisses, Lou Mi lifted her onto the kitchen island, her hands on Chi Lin’s neck as she kissed her, and Chi Lin’s resolve quickly melted…

It was 9:30 pm when Peng Ziyuan’s return interrupted them. Otherwise, they might have continued for hours.

Lou Mi reluctantly let go of Chi Lin, showering her forehead with kisses, then went to take a shower.

Chi Lin, slightly dazed, suddenly remembered she hadn’t messaged Wei Zhuoning yet.

Lin Xiaozhi, having smoked half a pack of cigarettes on the balcony, was starting to feel cold, still waiting for Chi Lin’s reply…

Chi Lin quickly contacted Wei Zhuoning.

  • Can We Get Married First?  99

    Chapter 99

Lou Mi wasn’t concerned about being alone with Chi Lin in the live stream room, even if Zhuo Jinglan might barge in.

She had wanted to give Chi Lin a more striking makeup look for the stream, after all, it was a special occasion.

Chi Lin’s face looked good with any makeup, and Lou Mi, who considered herself somewhat skilled in makeup, thought she had done a good job. But Chi Lin, seeing her heavily made-up face in the mirror, was startled.

“This won’t do…” She immediately reached for a tissue to wipe it off.

“Why not?” Lou Mi had expected praise for her skills, not this outright rejection.

    “It’s too strange.”

“Don’t use a tissue, come here.” Lou Mi took her hand and the tissue, discarding it, and started removing the makeup with cleansing oil. “You’re just not used to wearing makeup. I’m curious, didn’t you wear makeup before?”

“I did, but just light makeup.” At this, Chi Lin suddenly smiled, remembering something.

Lou Mi had her close her eyes, placed a cotton pad soaked in cleansing oil over her eyelids, waited for three seconds, then gently wiped it off, removing the makeup cleanly.

“What are you smiling about?” Lou Mi asked curiously. “Tell me, did I also enjoy putting makeup on you in our past life?”

    Chi Lin nodded.

“Really?” Lou Mi’s eyes lit up. “Tell me everything!”

When they first met at the Imperial Academy, they were both young and clueless about makeup.

Chi Lin was focused on her studies.

Her Majesty, however, was curious about everything, especially cosmetics. But she only had one face, and the trends in Shangjing changed too quickly, so she decided to find another canvas.

That unlucky canvas was Chi Lin.

As the princess, Jin Yi was pampered and could do whatever she wanted at the Imperial Academy. No one dared to refuse her.

But Chi Lin was different, her focus solely on the classics, not caring what the princess did to her face.

One day, Jin Yi, after pestering her for over an hour, with cosmetics scattered across the table, applied the latest Shangjing trend to Chi Lin’s face and proudly presented her with her reflection in a bronze mirror. Chi Lin, seeing the gaudy monstrosity staring back at her, was so startled that she dropped her brush.

Jin Yi couldn’t understand her reaction: “Doesn’t it look good? So beautiful!”

Chi Lin ran to the pond and immediately washed it off.

“Chi Lin, how dare you!” Jin Yi was furious. She had spent so much effort on her masterpiece, and it was instantly erased.

Chi Lin, her face and sleeves dripping wet, bowed to Jin Yi and apologized:

“This commoner is unworthy of Your Highness’s efforts. Please find someone more deserving.”

Lou Mi was shocked: “You really spoke to the princess like that?”

Chi Lin sighed: “I was young and arrogant, I did many foolish things.”

“Then what? What happened next?” Lou Mi pressed.

“Later, Her Majesty kept pestering me, insisting on putting makeup on my face.”

Lou Mi burst out laughing: “What a twisted fate. But it does sound like something I would do.”

Chi Lin agreed: “Her Majesty’s personality hasn’t changed.”

For the live stream, Chi Lin insisted on light makeup, which suited her elegant and refined aura.

Her nervousness and slight awkwardness in front of the camera added a touch of innocence that Lou Mi adored.

The cameras were recording them quietly. Online, fans had already noticed the accidental early start of the stream, the two of them whispering sweet nothings, completely oblivious.

Don’t tell them! Let me watch! Let me see how much more Lou Mi can flirt!

I’m Lin Jie! Lou Mi, come and cuddle me! I’m Lou Jie! Let me touch my Little Lin! Who am I?! I’m losing it!

Golden Palace x5, Golden Palace x5…

Fu Tu, picking up some food for Xie Buyu, glanced at the live stream and gasped, almost dropping her chopsticks.

“What are Sister Mi and Little Sister doing? This… isn’t appropriate, is it?”

Zhuo Jinglan, emerging from the back room, saw the scene and yelled, “What the fuck?!” The glass windows rattled, her face turning green.

“Wasn’t the data connection supposed to be offline?! Why is it live?!”

Huhu shuddered: “It’s, it’s been live for a while.”

    “For a while?!”

Her phone rang. It was a call from the tech department.

She didn’t need to answer to know what it was about. She slipped and rushed towards the live stream room!

Lou Mi, snuggling close to Chi Lin, one leg casually draped over her, practically wanted to sit on her lap.

Chi Lin was used to Lou Mi’s clinginess by now, having endured it for two lifetimes. The more she looked at her, the more adorable she found her.

Having been two years older than Her Majesty in their past life, and now seven years older, indulging her whims was easy.

Lou Mi, wanting some intimacy before the stream officially started, half-sat on Chi Lin’s lap, leaning closer.

The room was dimly lit, not yet ready for the stream. Lou Mi cupped Chi Lin’s face, the atmosphere perfect for a series of kisses…

    Yes! Kiss her!

    Don’t stop!

    Sister Lou is so dominant!

I’ve got their heads locked; everyone, focus on sending gifts!

    Gkd! Gkd! Gkd! (Hurry up!)

Just as their lips were about to meet, Zhuo Jinglan burst through the door with a loud bang that echoed in Chi Lin’s heart.

Startled, Chi Lin leaped into the air, landing several meters away in the corner of the room.

Lou Mi, losing her balance, almost fell, but Chi Lin had steadied her before flying off.

Lou Mi glared at Zhuo Jinglan: “What the hell is wrong with you?! You scared me to death!”

    Zhuo Jinglan’s words tumbled out:

“Live stream! It’s live! It’s being broadcast!”

“Huh?” Lou Mi quickly understood and turned to look at the camera, which, sensing her movement, also turned slightly.

    It was indeed on.

    …wtf…

    Lou Mi’s heart sank.

So, everything she and Chi Lin had just done was being broadcast live?

Millions of viewers had seen it all?

Her cuddling Chi Lin, calling her Lin Jie, all of it?!

Zhuo Jinglan, the interrupter of their intimate moment, had incurred the wrath of the internet.

    ??? So close!

Who is she?! Off with her head!

It’s Nine Heavens’ manager, she probably realized the stream was live.

Wait, did Little Lin just fly? She disappeared in a blink! Qinggong?

She also steadied Sister Lou before flying off. Relationship goals!

I’m convinced the person who saved Sister Lou on the highway was Little Lin! Those skills, that attentiveness!

Golden Palace x10, Golden Palace x10…

Chi Lin, her heart pounding, previously frozen in her chair, was now frozen in the corner.

Zhuo Jinglan frantically gestured at Lou Mi, whose soul, after a brief trip to the astral plane of embarrassment, returned to her body.

    Don’t panic, stay calm.

They were here for PR, weren’t they? Although this PR was a bit excessive, an overload of sweetness, panicking now would only make things worse.

Lou Mi smiled at the camera: “Are you all happy? Satisfied? Was the candy sweet enough?”

The chat was active again, the stream back online. Lou Mi saw her own murderous smile on the screen.

Great Sword x10, Great Sword x10…

So sweet! I can live on this for a lifetime!

Where’s Lin Jie?! Show us Lin Jie!

Seeing the words “Lin Jie,” Lou Mi remembered what she had said.

In front of millions of people, not only had she used that embarrassing nickname, but she had also been all over Chi Lin…

    Her reputation was ruined.

Since it was already ruined, what was there to lose?

Lou Mi called out sweetly to Chi Lin, who was still off-screen: “Lin Jie, come here, everyone misses you.”

Lou Mi beckoned her, and Chi Lin reluctantly returned.

As they appeared on screen together, Lou Mi smiled sweetly, leaning her head on Chi Lin’s shoulder. The chat went wild:

From this moment on, I’m a Lin Xue shipper! Don’t try to stop me!

Who would have thought the ruthless HighTowerMiyuki could be so sweet?!

Seeing Sister Lou so calm, was that accidental live stream a mistake or a blessing? Her acting is too good!

No more Sister Lou, only Lin Jie and Lou Mei Mei!

    Lou Mei Mei, I’m yours!

    ***

Chi Lin didn’t dare to look at the comments, the screen seemed to be exploding.

Lou Mi, a seasoned streamer, could read the comments with a single glance, even her peripheral vision could decipher what those little bastards were saying!

Well, she had only herself to blame…

    No, wait.

Lou Mi glared at Zhuo Jinglan—it was all her fault! Hadn’t she said the connection was being tested?

Lou Mi was about to unleash her fury on Zhuo Jinglan, expecting at least a hint of remorse.

But Zhuo Jinglan was watching the live stream on her phone, chatting and laughing with Xie Buyu and Fu Tu in the next room.

    Lou Mi: “??”

Not only was she not apologetic, but she was also enjoying the show?

Zhuo Jinglan, covering the lower half of her face with her phone, looked at Lou Mi.

Xie Buyu, Fu Tu, and Huhu, peeking through the door crack, had the same amused expression.

    Lou Mi: “…”

Chi Lin coughed, not daring to look up, afraid of her blushing face being broadcast, afraid of seeing the comments and dying from embarrassment.

“Captain,” she said formally, “shall we start the dungeon now?”

    The chat exploded again:

Little Lin is so shy, her little head is practically buried in her shoulders!

    Ksl! (So cute!)

HighTowerMiyuki, you beast! Preying on such an innocent girl!

Captain? Seriously? Weren’t you just calling her Your Majesty? If I’m not mistaken, this is the first time anyone has called HighTowerMiyuki “Captain,” right?

Lou Mi inwardly cursed Zhuo Jinglan and Xie Buyu, those ungrateful traitors, while maintaining a calm and composed facade, as if everything was under control.

Hearing Chi Lin’s sweet voice, a sliver of rationality returned:

“Yes, let’s start the dungeon. Everyone, slow down with the comments, let’s focus on the game. I think most viewers are here for the game.”

Her words only fueled the frenzy:

No, no, we’re here for the CP!

I used to be a fan of HighTowerMiyuki’s gameplay, but after seeing Lin Jie, I realize how shallow I was. Games are nothing compared to CP!

We can skip the dungeon, but not the CP!

What’s a dungeon? Is it as fun as Lin Jie?

Say “Lin Jie” again! Can we have more of this sweet Lou Mi?!

    Lou Mi almost choked.

Whose fans were these?! Definitely not hers!

The situation was out of control. As Lou Mi fumed, another wave of laughter erupted from the next room; Zhuo Jinglan was losing it.

    Lou Mi: “…”

Chi Lin, who had been keeping her head down, glanced at Lou Mi and couldn’t help but laugh.

    Lou Mi: “……”

That night’s live stream, thanks to the accidental early start, became a viral sensation.

Lou Mi had thought there were only a few million viewers, her usual number.

But the accident had attracted tens of millions.

Inside the dungeon, Lou Mi, distracted, made several mistakes, all of which Chi Lin covered for her.

    Lin Jie is so caring.

Ah, this cursed love, making HighTowerMiyuki lose her edge.

Finally, after forcing a smile until the very last second, and after triple-checking that the stream was indeed over, Lou Mi jumped out of her chair and grabbed Zhuo Jinglan, ready to duel.

Zhuo Jinglan and the tech team immediately apologized:

“It was an accident, we didn’t mean for it to happen, the platform’s people are downstairs, their CEO came to apologize personally. Please calm down.”

Zhuo Jinglan added, “Don’t be mad, Lou Mi, do you know that tonight’s stream broke all records? Viewers, engagement, donations, everything! Millions in donations alone! The CEO said they’re waiving their cut and giving it all to you and Little Sister as an apology. Happy now?”

Lou Mi: “I’ll give it all to you if you let me strangle you.”

She was about to pin Zhuo Jinglan to the sofa, but Zhuo Jinglan, knowing Lou Mi’s strength, ran for her life, disappearing in a flash.

Xie Buyu and Fu Tu, dragging Huhu between them, also fled. Lou Mi pointed at their retreating figures:

    “Don’t let me catch you!”

Chi Lin, witnessing Lou Mi’s usual bullying at the club firsthand, shook her head—she was still a child at heart.

The platform’s CEO arrived, apologizing profusely to Lou Mi and Chi Lin. Zhuo Jinglan, risking her life, returned to mediate.

Lou Mi, putting on a mature facade, told the CEO it was fine, accidents happened, it wasn’t a big deal. The donation split should remain the same.

Zhuo Jinglan whispered in her ear, “So magnanimous.”

Lou Mi glared at her: “You think I’m like you?”

Zhuo Jinglan couldn’t resist: “Did Lin Jie teach you to say that?”

She tried to escape, but Lou Mi, quick as lightning, grabbed her waist from behind.

    The CEO: “?”

Zhuo Jinglan sighed and covered her face.

Lou Mi smiled at the CEO: “Sister Lan said it was her fault, she didn’t communicate properly, it’s all on her. She’s treating you and the tech team to dinner tonight. Right, Sister Lan?”

Zhuo Jinglan cursed inwardly—how could she be so treacherous?!

The CEO: “Oh, you shouldn’t! We should treat you! If you and Lin Jie… ahem, and Miss Chi are free tonight, how about some late-night snacks? There’s a Chongqing hot pot place nearby.”

Lou Mi suspected that the CEO, who almost called Chi Lin “Lin Jie,” had also been lurking in the live stream chat.

Seriously, when would modern people stop being so obsessed with other people’s relationships?

The CEO treated the Nine Heavens team to dinner, discussing future live stream collaborations.

Hearing the word “live stream” made Chi Lin want to disappear.

Her phone was buzzing with notifications; she didn’t need to look to know what they were about.

She couldn’t think about tonight’s events, it was too embarrassing.

Chi Lin put her phone away, telling herself that if she ignored it, it didn’t exist…

Wei Zhuoning rushed to the Lin Xue CP super topic and posted the first fanfiction.

[God, her writing speed is insane! How many years of being single does it take to achieve this level of skill?]

[Is there smut? Even kindergarten level is fine!]

[I’m not greedy, just let me smell the exhaust fumes!]

As Wei Zhuoning chatted excitedly with fellow fans, a user named “Wu Baiyuan” suddenly appeared:

[Your author has zero practical experience, are you sure you want to get on this train? Aren’t you afraid it’ll derail?]

    Wei Zhuoning: “??”

This Wu Baiyuan was undoubtedly Lin Xiaozhi, always watching her so closely, and always with bird-related names!

What did she mean, zero practical experience…?

Wei Zhuoning, indignant, sent a private message to Wu Baiyuan:

[Why don’t you give me some experience then! [Angry] [Angry]]

Lin Xiaozhi, fresh out of the shower, having missed the live stream incident, saw Wei Zhuoning’s activity in her “special attention” list. She checked and saw that Wei Zhuoning, instead of studying, had spent the night writing fanfiction, about Chi Lin and Lou Mi, no less.

She claimed she had no time to hang out, but apparently, she had time for this.

Lin Xiaozhi was about to tease her when she received the private message.

Had the little rabbit discovered her true identity?

What did that mean? Did it mean what she thought it meant?

This was an unexpected development. Lin Xiaozhi immediately replied:

[I’ll give you some experience right now, meet me at your community gate in half an hour.]

    Wei Zhuoning: “??”

    That fast? Wait!

No matter how many messages or calls Wei Zhuoning sent, Lin Xiaozhi didn’t respond.

What was going on?! Why was she being so aggressive?!

Panicked, Wei Zhuoning quickly changed and ran downstairs.

    ***

The dinner lasted until 11 pm. The CEO still had a lot to say, but seeing Chi Lin’s fatigue, Lou Mi excused them.

“My little sister is in her senior year, she’s busy with school, we have to go.” Lou Mi grabbed their jackets. “Let’s get together again sometime.”

The CEO beamed: “Of course, of course, studies are important.”

He offered to see them out, but Lou Mi declined. Zhuo Jinglan and the others continued their dinner with the CEO, while Lou Mi and Chi Lin returned to the car.

The weather was getting warmer, even the night air was slightly humid.

Chi Lin, having had some wine, felt warm, her face flushed.

“I wanted to tell you earlier, that wine wasn’t very good, and yet you were drinking it like it was the finest vintage.” Lou Mi placed her cool hand on Chi Lin’s face. “I didn’t know you liked alcohol so much. You can drink at home, anything you want from my wine cabinet.”

Chi Lin shivered at her touch and held her hand:

“Why are your hands so cold?”

“I didn’t drink, of course I’m not as warm as you.”

Chi Lin said seriously, “It sounds like a Yang deficiency.”

“I thought you only knew how to trick people with fortune-telling, I didn’t know you were also a doctor.”

    “I know a little.”

“Did you learn it to take care of Her Majesty?”

Lou Mi tried to pull her hand back, but Chi Lin held on, smiling:

“Let me warm your hands, it’ll be quick.”

“It’s summer, why warm my hands…” Lou Mi said, but her smile reached her eyes.

Lou Mi leaned against Chi Lin, watching the city lights blur past.

So many people were still working overtime, struggling to make a living, while she was on her way home with the person she loved.

    She was truly blessed.

Remembering Chi Lin’s fondness for alcohol, Lou Mi asked:

    “Have you always liked alcohol?”

Chi Lin played with Lou Mi’s slender fingers: “I didn’t like it before, it’s a habit I developed during my years in the northern border. It was so cold there, no amount of clothing could compare to a flask of wine, I would freeze without it.”

“When you were younger…” Lou Mi suddenly thought of something important and sat up abruptly. “How old are you, exactly? The Chi Lin I saw in Dayuan, was that your real age?”

“I was thirty-two when I arrived, and it’s been almost ten months, so I’m thirty-three now.”

Lou Mi was silent for a moment.

She had thought she was seven years older than Chi Lin, but it turned out she was seven years younger!

    What a twist of fate…

But she snuggled closer to Chi Lin, feeling even more entitled to be pampered.

Chi Lin, after playing with her fingers, started toying with her hair. Lou Mi sensed she had something to say.

“What is it? Are you hiding something from me?”

Chi Lin hesitated, then asked, “Has Your Majesty remembered anything else from your past life?”

Lou Mi pouted and shook her head dejectedly: “No.”

    Chi Lin hummed.

“Don’t worry. I know you’re waiting for me to remember so we can go back and restore Dayuan, but time is frozen there, we can go back anytime, right?”

“That’s true, but there are too many distractions in this era…”

This era was too comfortable, too enjoyable, and now, with Her Majesty… Chi Lin was afraid that if she stayed any longer, she would become complacent, numb, even forgetting that her homeland was in danger.

Lou Mi sat up and looked at Chi Lin: “I know how important Dayuan is to you, I’ll help you restore it, I’ll do my best to remember, and I’ll take care of everything you don’t like. I only have one small request.”

Lou Mi held Chi Lin’s hand: “Stay in this era, don’t hate it, live here with me.”

    Chapter 98 p2

Besides being a professional esports player, Fu Tu also owned a tech company and had developed several popular mobile games. She was the closest to cutting-edge technology among the club members.

She examined the letters and said that once the ink bled, there was no way to restore it to its original state, unless it was a digital copy.

“We can use an AI program to scan and recognize the blurred words, then print them.”

Printing seemed impersonal. Lou Mi decided to trace the words herself after the AI scan.

Although Chi Lin hadn’t said much out of consideration for her, Lou Mi understood how much she cherished these letters.

She would use her spare time to restore them, one character at a time.

She selected the letters that could potentially be salvaged, scanned them, and read through them. They were filled with discussions of national affairs and classical literature, all in traditional characters, making Lou Mi’s eyes hurt.

But after reading them carefully, she was impressed by the Empress’s vision and eloquence.

Her concerns were grand and far-reaching, focused on the well-being of the nation and its people.

Reading the Empress’s insightful and well-organized thoughts, Lou Mi understood why someone like Chi Lin would be so devoted to her.

Lou Mi suddenly felt a sense of inadequacy.

What kind of knowledge did an emperor possess, compared to her?

Although Lou Mi had always been a top student, graduating from a top 5 university, she hadn’t studied anything new since becoming a professional gamer…

Thinking of Chi Lin’s doctoral degree, and how she and the Empress must have discussed national affairs frequently, Lou Mi felt insecure.

Would Chi Lin think she was shallow, inferior to her past life self?

No, she couldn’t lose in any aspect!

“Sister Mi, what do you want for afternoon tea? Bubble tea, okay?” Xie Buyu entered, seeing Lou Mi engrossed in a thick book titled “A Detailed Discussion of National History.”

Lou Mi, completely absorbed in her reading, a stack of half-finished calligraphy practice sheets beside her, didn’t even look up:

“You guys order whatever you want, just tag me for the payment.”

“Oh, okay…” Xie Buyu, intimidated by the scholarly atmosphere, felt ashamed of her craving for bubble tea.

That evening, Lou Mi and Chi Lin went home together. Lou Mi told her about the weekend live stream.

“Live stream, doesn’t that mean being in front of a camera the entire time?”

As soon as they entered the apartment, Chi Lin’s face paled.

Managing a Weibo account and posting text was one thing, but a live stream was like public execution.

“We’re just playing a dungeon, just play like you normally do, don’t feel pressured.” Lou Mi comforted her.

“So, we don’t have to face the camera, right?”

“We do… the fans want to see our faces.”

    Chi Lin almost fainted.

“Honestly, I don’t really want other people to see your face either, but I think it’s good to announce our relationship to the world.” Lou Mi lay down beside her on the bed, nuzzling her neck. “My Little Lin is so cute, I feel threatened.”

Chi Lin’s heart warmed at her affectionate gesture. She sat up and let Lou Mi lean against her:

“Doesn’t everyone already know about our relationship?”

Even her classmates knew she and HighTowerMiyuki were dating, constantly asking who was the older and who was the younger partner.

Chi Lin, who had looked up the definitions, was still confused and couldn’t answer.

It seemed both descriptions applied to her and Lou Mi?

“They know, but they still want to see…” Lou Mi patiently explained the importance of fan service in the modern world.

Chi Lin, quick to understand, said, “So, people in this era like watching other people’s relationships.”

Lou Mi wiped a bead of sweat from her forehead. That was a crude but accurate summary.

    “Then what should I do?”

“Just play the dungeon and chat, I’ll tell you what to do.”

    Chi Lin was already nervous.

Lou Mi rolled over, pinning her beneath her:

“Just follow my lead, don’t worry about anything else.” Lou Mi caressed her wrist and kissed her ear.

Chi Lin grew even more nervous: “We won’t, do anything like this during the live stream, right?”

Lou Mi almost jumped up: “What are you thinking?! Even if we wanted to, would the platform allow it?!”

Chi Lin sighed in relief: “Thank goodness…”

Lou Mi realized that ancient people were either incredibly proper or incredibly unrestrained.

Saturday evening, half an hour before the live stream, Lou Mi and Chi Lin were seated in front of the computer.

Three cameras were pointed at them, one on Lou Mi, one on Chi Lin, and one capturing both of them.

Hearing that HighTowerMiyuki was streaming, her fans were overjoyed.

    [Sudden PR?!]

[Who would have thought Sister Lou would stream again after nine months, such a diligent Sister Lou, I thought I would never see this day!]

[Lou Mi: Surprise! I either don’t stream, or I stream with my wife.]

[Ahhh, what a wonderful day! My favorite CP streaming together?! Nine Heavens forever! I’ll ship them for eternity!]

[I’m dead, I’m revived, I’m doing sit-ups in my coffin.]

    ***

Even before the stream started, the number of viewers exceeded four million. While pre-recorded footage of Nine Heavens’ past matches and promotional videos played, the chat was already going crazy.

Virtual gifts, “Great Swords” and even “Golden Palaces,” rained down, filling the screen with golden light.

    [Grandma, what am I seeing?!]

[Holy shit—someone sent a Golden Palace! A whale!]

Lou Mi had put on some makeup, her red lips and expertly applied eyeliner making her look mature and alluring.

Chi Lin, as always, had a light, natural look. Sitting side by side, Chi Lin’s simple elegance enhanced Lou Mi’s beauty.

The staff were still testing the network. Chi Lin, seeing the fan comments, asked Lou Mi:

“What do ‘Great Sword’ and ‘Golden Palace’ mean?”

“It means people are giving us money.”

    “How much?”

“A Great Sword is 100 yuan, a Golden Palace is 10,000 yuan.”

    Chi Lin gasped. How much?!

Before the stream even started, without even seeing their faces, people were already throwing money at them?

Seeing the Golden Palaces appearing on the screen, Chi Lin felt a pang of heartache.

If they could raise money like this in Dayuan, just by showing their faces, Her Majesty would probably drag her in front of the camera every day.

Zhuo Jinglan rushed over and said there was a problem with the data connection, the stream might be delayed, and asked them to wait.

The comments on their screen also stopped.

“Let me know when it starts.”

Lou Mi gave her an “okay” sign.

Zhuo Jinglan went to communicate with the platform staff, leaving Lou Mi and Chi Lin alone in the room.

“Will the stream start soon?” Chi Lin sat stiffly in her chair.

“Yes, soon.” Lou Mi, a seasoned streamer, was completely relaxed, taking a sip of her drink.

Seeing Chi Lin’s rigid posture, Lou Mi leaned closer, resting her chin on her hand, and smiled at her.

Chi Lin turned her head mechanically, a forced smile on her face.

“Honey, what are you doing? I told you, just act normal, don’t be so stiff, or you’ll be roasted alive during the stream. These netizens are sharp-tongued and quick-witted, they’ll turn you into a meme, and your embarrassing moments will be immortalized online.”

    “I’m trying to relax, but it’s difficult…”

Chi Lin could lead armies and give speeches in front of thousands of people, but this camera felt like a hidden weapon, freezing her every muscle.

It felt like countless eyes were watching her.

And at this moment, her feeling wasn’t wrong.

Millions of viewers were already watching them.

The platform, while testing the connection, had accidentally started the live stream.

The viewers were watching, but the streamers and the staff were completely unaware.

Xie Buyu, Fu Tu, Huhu, and the trainees were having dinner together. Huhu opened the live stream channel and paused:

“It’s already started? I thought there were still ten minutes left.”

“It has started, look, the chat is exploding.”

[Is that Sister Lou?! She’s even more beautiful now! She was always beautiful, but tonight, she’s so sexy! That eye makeup, that lip color! Total big sister energy!]

    [Screaming x10000!]

[I’m dead, I’m really dead, is anyone going to argue that Sister Lou isn’t the most dominant player in Return to Jianghu?!]

    [Sister Lou, please dominate me!!]

[I sense HighTowerMiyuki’s intentions, she must have dressed up specifically for her first stream with Little Sister!]

[Please stream every day from now on! I can watch you two just sitting there doing nothing for days!]

[Today’s Little Lin is also incredibly cute! How can there be such a precious and adorable being in the world?!]

[When will Little Lin let her hair down for Mommy to see?!]

[Great Sword x5, Great Sword x5…]

[Her current hairstyle is also perfect, it matches Sister Lou so well!]

[People say there’s no such thing as perfect, I’ll throw Snow Vegetable CP in their faces!]

The fans’ comments flooded the screen, but Chi Lin and Lou Mi, completely oblivious, were staring at each other.

“Here.” Lou Mi suddenly cupped Chi Lin’s face with both hands.

Chi Lin, slightly startled, her pink lips puckered, looked at her questioningly.

The chat lagged for a moment, then the comments flew even faster:

    [Holy shit?!]

[What is Sister Lou doing?! Oh my god!]

    [Sudden sweetness?!]

“Your, Your Majesty?” Chi Lin held Lou Mi’s wrists, her eyes wide with confusion.

“Your face is so stiff, let me massage it for you, help you relax.”

[HighTowerMiyuki, why are you bullying Little Lin! If you’re going to bully her, do it harder!]

[What did I just hear?? Your Majesty? Is that what I think it means?!]

[What kind of emperor-subject roleplay is this…]

    [They’re playing it that wild?]

    [My blood pressure!]

[My mom asked me why I’m suddenly having a nosebleed.]

Chi Lin let Lou Mi massage her face, a mixture of compliance and helplessness:

“Your Majesty is going to make my face crooked.”

Lou Mi’s heart melted at her adorable expression. She released Chi Lin’s face, her hands moving to her shoulders, pulling her closer, and said in a sweet, slightly childish voice:

“Is that so? Then how should I help Lin Jie relax?”

    [?????]

    [??????????]

[Oh my god, what did I just hear? Lin Jie?!]

[HighTowerMiyuki, snap out of it!! Aren’t you the most dominant player?! I’m so disappointed!]

[Little Lin is seven years younger than you! You’re calling her ‘Jie’! Say it again, I dare you!]

[Wait, I’m confused, what’s going on with these two?]

[Older? Younger? Who’s the big sister, who’s the little sister?]

[Snow Vegetable CP is truly a treasure, they’re so playful.]

[Anyone interested in Lin Xue CP? I’m creating a super topic right now!]

  • Can We Get Married First?  98p1

    Chapter 98 p1

After just one day away from school, seeing the explosion of messages on her phone, Chi Lin felt like she had been gone for a year.

The class group chat had been frantically tagging her since yesterday morning, asking why she was absent again, the messages exceeding two thousand before finally subsiding.

Wei Zhuoning sent five or six private messages, asking if she was alright and if she could visit.

Even Lin Xiaozhi, usually only focused on Wei Zhuoning, sent a message, albeit with a hidden agenda:

“Are you home? Are you okay? Zhuoning and I want to visit you.”

Having been in this world for over half a year, Chi Lin was still not used to instant messaging.

She knew everyone meant well, but the constant barrage of messages felt a bit overwhelming.

When she first arrived, she had tried her best to adapt to this era, to blend in and avoid being noticed.

But now, having found the person she was looking for, she wanted to slow down, to maintain her own pace, not to be swept away by the fast-paced modern world.

As soon as she arrived at school, Wei Zhuoning grabbed her, examining her from head to toe, finally sighing in relief:

    “It’s you, you’re really you.”

    Chi Lin: “?”

Lin Xiaozhi, watching Wei Zhuoning’s antics, chuckled:

“Our Lin took a day off and disappeared from the internet, Zhuoning was worried sick, convinced you had been possessed, otherwise you wouldn’t have ignored her. See, she’s perfectly fine, are you relieved now?”

“Who, who was worried sick?” Her private concern exposed, Wei Zhuoning blushed, her words stumbling. “I was just worried about a classmate! Unlike you, heartless!”

Chi Lin was surprised that people in this era also knew about “possession,” she had thought such superstitions only existed in Dayuan.

But having experienced soul transmigration herself, the concept no longer held any fear for her.

“Oh, I didn’t say anything else, if not a classmate, then what? Do you dare to think otherwise? Do you think I can’t control you, or that Sister Lou can’t swing a sword?”

Facing Wei Zhuoning, Lin Xiaozhi was completely unfazed, her teasing sounding almost like sweet nothings.

Wei Zhuoning hadn’t expected her simple concern for Chi Lin to trigger Lin Xiaozhi’s jealousy. Defeated, she returned to her seat.

Chi Lin, who hadn’t even had a chance to speak: “…”

Seeing Chi Lin’s return, the Class 6 group chat came alive again before class started.

“Lin Lin, are you sick! You look thinner! Here, Sister Lou’s GIF from three years ago, the one where she pokes her own cheek! My exclusive collection! To replenish your HP!”

“Holy shit, I’ve been looking for this GIF! I’m dead, I’m dead!”

“Seriously, when will Lin and Sister Lou stream together? A friend of mine wants to see a duo stream!”

    “Duo stream +1!”

“Lin, what do you want for lunch today? My treat, I just want you to create a Weibo account! And follow Sister Lou!”

“A month of lunches for a Weibo account!”

    ***

The messages flooded the chat, making Chi Lin’s eyes hurt.

Why were they so obsessed with Weibo and live streams? Chi Lin still felt uncomfortable in front of a camera.

If she really streamed, she would probably have a poker face the entire time.

Since she was back in class, not responding would be rude, so Chi Lin patiently answered everyone’s questions.

Only when Mr. Xia entered and class started did the commotion subside. Chi Lin wiped the sweat from her forehead—being a celebrity in this era was truly exhausting.

A major exam and two quizzes in the morning, after just one day away, she felt like she had missed a lot.

Going over yesterday’s test paper, Chi Lin struggled to keep up, her brow furrowing.

Lin Xiaozhi taught her to record the teacher’s explanations on her tablet, so she could review them later.

    ***

Chi Lin was surprised. Such technology existed, why hadn’t she known about it before?

    “You didn’t know?”

    “No one told me…”

Lin Xiaozhi leaned closer and whispered, “Did you not even have computers in your time?”

Chi Lin smiled and shook her head.

    “No industrial revolution?”

Having studied modern history, Chi Lin smiled faintly: “Not even close, it was the era of cold weapons.”

Lin Xiaozhi’s eyes widened: “So, were you a soldier? Did you fight in battles?”

    “Yes.”

    “Killed people?”

Chi Lin hesitated, not wanting to scare her.

Even without her saying it, Lin Xiaozhi already knew the answer from her eyes.

Not scared at all, Lin Xiaozhi was even more intrigued and spent the entire morning asking about Chi Lin’s battlefield experiences.

“Lin, are you actually a man?”

“…Women could also fight in battles in my time.”

“How heavy was your sword? Could you decapitate someone with one swing?”

    “I didn’t use a sword…”

    “Then what? A hammer?”

    “I used a sword.”

“A sword? But everyone wore armor, how could you injure anyone?”

“Swords are more agile, and it depends on how they’re forged.”

“How long did your battles last? What did you do when you were bored? Did you have a girlfriend? Did she fight with you? What will she do now that you’re here? Lin, Lin?”

    Help!

Chi Lin was bombarded with questions, turning to Wei Zhuoning with a pleading look.

Wei Zhuoning wished she could teleport her ears over there. What were they talking about? That Lin Xiaozhi was monopolizing Chi Lin!

Finally, lunchtime arrived. Chi Lin, not daring to stay near Lin Xiaozhi any longer, grabbed her bag and disappeared in a blink of an eye.

“Hey, where’s Lin?” Lin Xiaozhi looked around. “We haven’t finished discussing the killing people part, and she’s already gone?”

Chi Lin practically ran out of the school gates as soon as the bell rang, afraid of being caught.

She ordered takeout from her car, giving the delivery driver a very specific location: “Guanghua Road, Parking Lot 12, Section D, East Side, third row, third car.”

    The delivery driver: “??”

Chi Lin ate her lunch in the car while reviewing her study materials.

Just as she was finishing, Lou Mi’s video call arrived.

Chi Lin quickly put away her lunch, wiped her mouth, checked her reflection in the car’s mirror, making sure her hair was neat and presentable, then answered the call.

“Hey, why are you in the car?”

Lou Mi was eating while video chatting, leaning back in her chair, her cheeks puffed out.

Seeing Chi Lin sitting upright, looking serious and formal, it felt more like a business negotiation than a chat between lovers.

Lou Mi quickly swallowed her food and sat up straight.

Chi Lin told her about her morning at school, and Lou Mi burst out laughing.

    “Why are you gloating…”

“It’s hard not to be interested in your past life. I also have a lot of questions. But your deskmate, that Lin Xiaozhi, actually guessed your identity… Most people, even if they find something strange, wouldn’t actually believe in soul transmigration.”

Chi Lin said seriously: “If Lin Xiaozhi were in Dayuan, she would either be a renowned child prodigy or a dangerous deviant.”

    “Can she keep a secret?”

“She’s been quite friendly towards me, helping me both openly and secretly.”

Chi Lin said this to reassure Lou Mi, but it only made her more uneasy.

That Lin Xiaozhi was alluring and mysterious, and she and the righteous Chi Lin seemed to have a natural chemistry.

And they were deskmates, spending all day together…

Lou Mi: “Is her relationship with her former deskmate stable?”

Chi Lin, who rarely pried into other people’s private lives, didn’t answer immediately.

“How serious are they? When are they getting married?”

    “That…”

“How much should we give as a wedding gift?”

    Chi Lin: “…”

Lin Xiaozhi, who was force-feeding Wei Zhuoning, suddenly sneezed.

Lou Mi had anticipated Chi Lin’s popularity at school after those two matches.

She had prepared herself mentally and even declared her ownership; those kids should know better than to have designs on someone else’s treasure.

But high school students these days were different, the situation was more complicated than she had anticipated.

Zhuo Jinglan’s insistence on them doing some PR suddenly seemed less ridiculous.

Fine, if they wanted some sweet moments, she would give them enough to make them sick!

Lou Mi chatted with Chi Lin until the last second, reluctant to let her go, but Chi Lin had to leave for class.

“I’ll pick you up after school,” Lou Mi said.

“Huh? You’re coming all the way here? There’s no need, I can go home myself. And if you come, we’ll have two cars, we’ll have to drive separately.”

Lou Mi’s affectionate intentions were met with Chi Lin’s practical concerns, and she almost rolled her eyes.

Who said she was driving? Of course she would take a taxi and go home with Chi Lin, like conjoined twins!

Lou Mi recalled Chi Lin saying she wasn’t good at relationships. She had thought Chi Lin was being modest, but now it seemed she was being honest…

“I! Want to see you! Wait for me after school!”

    Chi Lin: “Okay…”

As Lou Mi ended the call, her fierce expression still lingered. Two trainees, standing outside her office, had been trembling for a while.

“Huh?” Lou Mi’s sudden question almost made them jump out of their skins.

    “S-Sister Lan said there’s a meeting.”

    “Coming.”

The trainees scurried away. Remembering Chi Lin’s stunned expression earlier, Lou Mi looked at herself in the mirror, wondering—

    Was she really that scary?

Her features, individually, seemed gentle, but combined, especially when she wasn’t smiling, she looked like she was about to kill someone.

    Why?

People like Xie Buyu, always smiling, seemed to be liked by everyone in the club.

That Lin Xiaozhi also had a sweet smile…

Everyone liked approachable and gentle people, right?

Lou Mi tried smiling at the mirror and almost gagged.

It wasn’t sweet at all. If her usual expression looked like she was about to kill someone, her smile looked like she had just buried the body.

It was all Jin Yi’s fault.

She had been too immersed in her role as Emperor in her past life, bringing that stern expression to this life!

With two months until the new season, Zhuo Jinglan wanted to select two substitute players from the newly formed Nine Heavens second team, to avoid a repeat of the recent player shortage.

Player selection for Nine Heavens was always Lou Mi’s decision. She chose five candidates for further observation, planning to have them participate in more simulation matches and finalize the selection in two weeks, then start intensive training in mid-June.

After the meeting, Lou Mi asked Zhuo Jinglan to stay behind; she had something to discuss.

Zhuo Jinglan was already dreading it: “What does Guaren have to say today?”

“Seriously, weren’t you clamoring for a live stream? Let’s do it this weekend.”

“Oh?” Zhuo Jinglan was surprised. “Finally decided to do some PR?”

“You were the one who suggested it, why are you acting like it was my idea?”

“Fine, fine, it was me. Every industry needs fan support these days, more fans mean more attention. The new season is approaching, it’s good for pre-season hype. By the way, I’ve registered a Weibo account for Little Sister, I’ve sent her the login details. Have her announce the live stream, and then the official Weibo can repost it, so her fans won’t think we’re mistreating her.”

    “People actually think that?”

“Of course! You used to be so lazy, barely streaming, and our official Weibo was bombarded with complaints, saying Nine Heavens was sidelining HighTowerMiyuki, using her and then discarding her. If it weren’t for the stories about your antics at the club going viral, people would still be complaining. We can’t repeat that. Manage your account properly, okay? Saturday at 8 pm, play a dungeon with Little Sister? Just show your faces, that’s all. I’ve already contacted the platform, you don’t have to prepare anything, just show up.”

Lou Mi had initially planned on showering everyone with a year’s worth of sweet moments, but Zhuo Jinglan’s words made her feel self-conscious, as if countless eyes were on her.

Fine, playing a dungeon together was good enough, fighting side-by-side was exciting enough, no need to be overly affectionate.

After the meeting, Lou Mi returned to her office, took out the stack of letters, and continued tracing the faded words, one stroke at a time.

She had asked Fu Tu if there was any way to restore them.

  • Can We Get Married First?  97

    Chapter 97

Chi Lin didn’t know how long she had slept. When she woke up, golden sunlight streamed through the gap in the curtains; it was late afternoon.

Had she slept the entire day?

She had never slept so soundly, so unguardedly. Waking up, she felt refreshed and clear-headed.

The ache in her back lingered, but after moving her arms, it seemed less severe.

She was starving, so she went to the kitchen to find something to eat.

Lou Mi had stocked the smart fridge with all sorts of ingredients.

Chi Lin ordered a steamed fish and some wine. While waiting, she noticed the apartment was unusually quiet; she was alone.

It was past five, and Lou Mi still hadn’t returned.

Hadn’t she said she would be back in two hours?

Chi Lin checked her phone and saw a message from Lou Mi:

“The meeting is running longer than expected, I’ll probably be home around six. Has my Little Lin slept well? I haven’t heard your voice all day, I’m parched…”

Fifteen minutes later, another message arrived:

    “Still sleeping?”

Below the slightly forlorn message was a GIF of a small raccoon tossing and turning in bed, clutching a pillow.

Lou Mi was clearly suffering, but she didn’t want to disturb Chi Lin, only sending two messages all day.

Looking at the distressed raccoon, Chi Lin imagined Lou Mi’s expression and chuckled.

She replied: “I just woke up, is your meeting over?”

After sending the message, she finished her fish and wine, but Lou Mi still hadn’t replied.

Was she still in a meeting?

As Chi Lin put the dishes in the dishwasher, a message arrived.

Not from Lou Mi, but from the Nine Heavens group chat.

Xie Buyu messaged Chi Lin: “Little Sister, come quick! Your sister has lost it!”

    Chi Lin: “??”

    Xie Buyu: “Get online!”

Chi Lin could never predict Lou Mi’s antics.

Not in her past life, not in this one.

Logging into Return to Jianghu, she immediately noticed that ENIAC’s guild name had been changed to “ENIAC Reigns Supreme.”

Seeing those words, Chi Lin had a bad feeling.

She teleported to the guild headquarters. Before even seeing Lou Mi, she heard her voice, reprimanding someone sternly:

“…The Chiyuan Steed was stolen again? Why aren’t you retrieving it? What’s there to be afraid of? Guaren worked hard to build this empire, and you’re squandering it all!”

    Chi Lin’s steps slowed.

    Here we go again.

Lou Mi’s addiction to being the Emperor was incurable.

The guild headquarters, usually bustling with activity and carriages, was now adorned with a red carpet leading to a newly built platform, where a large, throne-like chair sat in the center.

Lou Mi’s usual elegant warrior outfit was gone, replaced by a black robe with embroidered dragons. Her flame spear was replaced by a large, square jade seal.

She was scolding someone, raising the jade seal with every sentence, as if she might drop it on someone’s head.

Chi Lin had entered the game expecting to see Lou Mi indulging her imperial fantasies, but Lou Mi’s elaborate imperial attire momentarily stunned her.

It was as if the Empress from her past life was standing before her.

Lou Mi, seeing Chi Lin online, her smile almost breaking through her stern facade, told the person she was scolding to retrieve the Chiyuan Steed, then rushed over to Chi Lin:

“You’re awake? Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I sent you a message, but you didn’t reply.”

“You messaged me?” Lou Mi briefly logged off, then returned. “I’m still on my way home, I didn’t want to disturb you, so I came online to kill some time. You must have been really tired, sleeping the entire day.”

Lou Mi’s gaze was fixed on Chi Lin’s beautiful eyes.

She noticed that the “Lin” account seemed to have been redesigned. Chi Lin’s eyes were slightly narrower, her eyebrows darker and longer, her lips thinner, her chin more delicate. She looked more mature and capable.

Most importantly, she no longer looked like a child, her appearance closer to her actual age.

Lou Mi’s heart fluttered. She was stunning…

She hadn’t expected to see the real Chi Lin so soon.

With the help of technology, Lou Mi had searched the in-game store for an outfit similar to the Empress’s robe she had seen in her memories, and Chi Lin had also recreated her true appearance.

Thank you, Return to Jianghu, thank you, N-T development team, for making past and present lives even more exciting.

Lou Mi was almost in tears.

“Little Sister! You’re here! Thank goodness!”

Hearing Xie Buyu and Fu Tu’s voices, Chi Lin turned around curiously.

She saw a eunuch and a palace maid running towards her, their faces indignant.

It took Chi Lin a moment to recognize them from their faces and names; it really was Xie Buyu and Fu Tu.

Fu Tu, usually a tank, a male character, was now wearing a dainty palace maid outfit, looking like a very unconvincing cross-dresser. Her name now had the title “Head Palace Maid.”

    Xie Buyu was even worse.

Originally a twin-tailed, doe-eyed, cute little girl, she was now a gloomy-looking eunuch, her title “Chief Eunuch.”

    Chi Lin: “…”

Xie Buyu pointed at Lou Mi: “Look at the mess your sister created! Turning Return to Jianghu into Return to the Imperial Court! Fine, she wants to play emperor, let her, she’s HighTowerMiyuki, she can do whatever she wants. But she’s the emperor, and I’m a eunuch! Where’s the justice in that?!”

Chi Lin suppressed a smile: “Can’t you change your appearance back?”

“If I could, I wouldn’t be here! As soon as I enter this cursed guild, I’m forced to wear this outfit! All my belongings are here! Sister Mi, give me a straight answer, are you changing it back or not? If not, I’d rather beg on the streets than be a eunuch!”

Lou Mi tried to reason with her: “Why are you focusing on the eunuch part? You’re the Chief Eunuch! All Guaren‘s internal affairs are under your control. And see how thoughtful I am, I even gave you a Head Palace Maid. You two can even share meals together.”

Xie Buyu held up a hand, stopping Lou Mi:

“Fu Tu and I don’t need to share meals in a game, we can do that anywhere.”

Fu Tu, who had been standing beside Xie Buyu, echoing her every complaint with a “that’s right,” suddenly realized what Xie Buyu meant and smacked her on the back of the head:

“What the hell are you saying?!”

“Was I wrong? Why did you hit me?!”

“Is that the point?! How can you be so shameless! Who’s sharing meals with you!”

The two, who had come to confront Lou Mi, started arguing amongst themselves. Lou Mi grabbed Chi Lin’s hand and pulled her towards the back of the hall.

Passing through the main hall, Chi Lin noticed a plaque above them: “Taihua Palace.”

    “I remembered some more things.”

Lou Mi led Chi Lin to a secluded garden. Chi Lin found the scenery familiar.

A pond surrounded by hibiscus flowers, dotted with unlit candle holders, which would surely be a beautiful sight at night. A bridge extended to a pavilion in the center of the pond, its red pillars and pointed roof seemingly floating on the water, picturesque and charming.

With Lou Mi beside her, the scene was strikingly similar to the Southern Palace.

When Chi Lin first entered the game, seeing the changes Lou Mi had made to the guild headquarters, she had thought it was just a silly prank.

She hadn’t expected such a heartwarming surprise.

She knew the power of holographic games, how they could create entirely new worlds, but she hadn’t thought of using it to recreate scenes from their past life.

Chi Lin stared at her surroundings, mesmerized.

“You, remembered the Southern Palace?” She instinctively clutched Lou Mi’s sleeve.

Lou Mi noticed this was Chi Lin’s habit, gripping someone’s sleeve when she was nervous.

Lou Mi’s heart fluttered as she looked at Chi Lin’s hand.

    She was so adorable.

“Yes, I remembered.” Lou Mi pulled Chi Lin into her embrace.

Actually, she only remembered a few scenes. The hibiscus flowers and the pavilion had suddenly appeared in her mind while she was in the elevator earlier.

She had immediately focused, trying to capture every detail of the memory fragments, then logged into the game as soon as she got in the car.

Familiar with the in-game store, she quickly recreated the garden, trying to replicate every detail she could remember, the color of the hibiscus flowers, the size and structure of the pavilion, as accurately as possible.

She had imagined Chi Lin’s excitement, but…

Why did Chi Lin’s expression seem so complex?

She was excited, but also hesitant, her joy mixed with something else.

“What’s wrong?” Lou Mi, sensing her unusual mood, asked.

“Why did you remember the Southern Palace specifically…” Chi Lin turned away.

    Lou Mi: “??”

What was wrong with the Southern Palace? Lou Mi’s heart skipped a beat. Had they had a fight there?

Well, no couple could stay lovey-dovey forever without arguments. Their past life had been sweet enough, a little disagreement was normal.

But this was the only scene she remembered, a scene she had struggled to recall.

Which memory fragments her brain chose to surface was beyond her control.

She wanted to remember everything, but she couldn’t.

Lou Mi turned to Chi Lin, pouting slightly: “Are you upset?”

“Not really…” Chi Lin’s cheeks flushed. Lou Mi, seeing her furrowed brow, couldn’t decipher her emotions.

Chi Lin was a master of coaxing, and Lou Mi had learned a few tricks from her. Now was the time to put them to use.

“I can’t choose which memories to recall.” Lou Mi leaned against Chi Lin’s arm, acting pitiful. “If you don’t like it, I’ll tear it all down. Tell me what you like, and I’ll build it for you. I’ll do whatever Lin Jie wants.”

In the game, Chi Lin’s redesigned character did look older, so Lou Mi calling her “Lin Jie” wasn’t out of place, and her sweet, slightly childish tone transported Chi Lin back to Dayuan, back to the Southern Palace.

Lou Mi, eager to appease Chi Lin, had no idea that it wasn’t a fight or disagreement that made Chi Lin’s expression so complex.

On the contrary, the Southern Palace held their sweetest and most passionate memories.

Her Majesty had spent an entire year there with her, using her “recovery” as an excuse to keep Chi Lin by her side, only attending to official matters when necessary.

It was a year of unrestrained love, of inseparable intimacy.

The near-death experience on the northern front had shaken Her Majesty deeply; she couldn’t bear to let Chi Lin out of her sight, not even for a moment.

The palace gardens, this sea of hibiscus flowers, was a place only for the two of them.

The bridge, the pavilion, every corner held traces of Her Majesty’s affection.

Her Majesty had clung to her day and night, as if trying to make up for all the years of separation during Chi Lin’s northern campaign.

Chi Lin had never experienced such intense intimacy before.

And in broad daylight, no less.

She knew Her Majesty loved her, and she cherished Her Majesty deeply.

Her shyness had gradually faded, replaced by an instinctive desire.

Having devoted her life to studying and martial arts, carrying the weight of her nation’s stability, Chi Lin’s thirty years of life had been more arduous, more restrictive than most.

Her family were scholars, and she was the first to pursue martial arts.

Her reserved nature was influenced by her studies, always prioritizing duty and propriety, never considering romance.

Her Majesty had opened her eyes to a new world, a world she had once found foreign and shameful.

Day after day, lost in Her Majesty’s embrace, indulging her every whim, Chi Lin had almost forgotten who she was.

Now, remembering the Southern Palace, a wave of affection surged through her heart. She knew Her Majesty’s mark was etched onto her soul, unchangeable, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

But even now, the memory of that year of unrestrained passion, even the smallest details, made Chi Lin blush.

Her Majesty in this life still had the innocence of first love. Lou Mi might seem mature on the outside, but inside, she was still a child.

Chi Lin couldn’t bring herself to taint her innocence with those memories.

It seemed Lou Mi only remembered the scenery of the Southern Palace, not the events that transpired there.

This was good; Chi Lin didn’t want her to remember.

If she did, even if she wasn’t jealous of her past life self, she might be tempted to reenact those moments.

The thought alone made Chi Lin blush.

“You seem quite comfortable calling me ‘Lin Jie’.” Chi Lin took her hand, a smile appearing on her face. “So, should I call you ‘sister,’ or should you call me ‘sister’?”

“In real life, you calling me ‘sister’ is fine, and in the game, I’ll call you ‘sister.’ We both get what we want.”

    Lou Mi was overjoyed.

Chi Lin in real life was the one she was familiar with, the one she fell in love with first.

Who would have thought there was another version in the game?

She had both the older sister and the younger sister; was there anyone happier than her?

Dating Chi Lin was truly exciting.

Lou Mi, her heart racing from the realization of their past and present connection, was too naive to realize she had missed the even more exciting parts, which were already making Chi Lin blush.

She led Chi Lin around the garden, asking for her opinion, any changes or improvements she wanted to make.

“I want it to be as accurate as possible,” Lou Mi said excitedly. “We can come here whenever we have time, it might even help me regain my memories faster.”

For the first time, Chi Lin thought it might be better if Lou Mi didn’t remember everything.

In the game, Chi Lin was sitting in the pavilion. In real life, she was sitting on the sofa in the living room when she suddenly felt arms around her. She hadn’t even opened her eyes.

She hadn’t noticed Lou Mi enter the room, her attention still scattered from the Southern Palace memories.

Lou Mi’s embrace was gentle, her head resting on Chi Lin’s shoulder:

“I missed you so much. How are your injuries?”

The scent of Chi Lin’s hair and the feeling of holding her close were incredibly comforting.

“They’re much better.” Chi Lin removed her access crystal. “I can go to school tomorrow.”

As she turned her head, their lips were barely an inch apart.

Lou Mi wanted to kiss her. She gave her two quick pecks, then stopped.

Chi Lin always tried to appear strong, Lou Mi knew this well.

She had endured so much pain before without complaining. Now, saying she was “much better” meant she wasn’t in excruciating pain anymore, but she must still be uncomfortable. Lou Mi didn’t want to push her.

She would wait a few more days until Chi Lin had fully recovered.

Lou Mi had been busy at the club all day, barely eating and surviving on coffee.

She had rushed to recreate the Southern Palace in the game, and now she was starving.

Chi Lin offered to cook: “Beef stew with tomatoes and some greens, okay?”

Lou Mi didn’t want her to move, but Chi Lin insisted on being active, so Lou Mi could only relax on the sofa, enjoying the royal treatment.

Chi Lin brought her the food, watched her eat, wiped her mouth, and then offered her a caramel cheesecake cupcake.

Lou Mi paused: “I haven’t seen this cupcake on Mr. System’s menu.”

“I added it,” Chi Lin said. “You mentioned last week that the cupcakes on TV looked delicious, so I found a recipe and tried making one. I find it a bit too sweet, but it should be just right for you. Try it, and if you don’t like it, I’ll adjust the recipe.”

Lou Mi immediately took a large bite. The sweetness was perfect, not too much, not too little.

“Is it good?” Chi Lin asked expectantly.

“It’s amazing!” Lou Mi devoured half the cupcake in two bites, and Chi Lin was worried she would choke.

“Eat slowly… you got some crumbs on your face.”

Chi Lin held out her hand beneath Lou Mi’s mouth.

Lou Mi: “What are you doing?”

“Catching the crumbs, so they don’t fall on the table, it’s unseemly.”

    “…”

    Lou Mi was speechless.

She had almost forgotten she was a fake Empress, while the person before her was a genuine one.

Even though she was a general, she was still a scholar, a doctor, with impeccable manners.

Crumbs on the table were fine, they could be cleaned up later, why bother catching them?

But seeing Chi Lin’s clean hand patiently waiting, without a hint of impatience, Lou Mi’s heart melted.

Being an Empress was truly blissful…

No wonder she had been so spoiled in her past life, with such a gentle and attentive person waiting on her hand and foot, it would be hard to be independent.

But Lou Mi didn’t consider herself a spoiled brat, and she didn’t want Chi Lin to work so hard.

At least catching crumbs was something she could do herself.

Lou Mi pushed Chi Lin’s hand down and caught the crumbs herself.

Chi Lin didn’t comment, letting her be.

After she finished eating, Chi Lin took the paper cup and threw it away.

“Does your head hurt today?” After discarding the cup and sanitizing her hands, Chi Lin walked behind Lou Mi and started massaging her shoulders.

Lou Mi didn’t know whether to say it hurt or not.

Chi Lin’s massage was too relaxing.

Why was Chi Lin so good at pampering her? How could she be independent with such attentive care?

“I’ll massage you too later.” Lou Mi said, enjoying the massage, and squeezed Chi Lin’s hand.

    Chi Lin hummed in disagreement.

    “Why?”

    “It’s not appropriate.”

“Why not?” Lou Mi didn’t understand at first, then she realized.

It was that feudal superstition again, the Emperor was divine, untouchable.

Lou Mi opened her eyes and looked up at Chi Lin: “We were married in our past life, were you always the one attending to me? Didn’t I ever do anything for you?”

“Not really, but I mostly took care of your daily needs.” Chi Lin smiled. “You’ve always been bad at taking care of yourself, both in this life and the past. Even if you could do certain things, I wouldn’t trust you to do them properly.”

“You took care of my daily needs?” Lou Mi asked. “Then what did I do for you?”

At this question, Chi Lin’s expression turned slightly awkward, but she quickly recovered:

“You were the Emperor, burdened with the affairs of the entire nation, you didn’t have time for anything else.”

Lou Mi didn’t understand: “What do you mean ‘anything else’? You’re my wife, not ‘anything else’.”

At this point, Lou Mi, the experienced gamer, finally understood.

Of course, she “took care” of Lin Jie in bed.

Lou Mi basked in her own cleverness for about five seconds, then reality hit.

If she didn’t remember it, it wasn’t hers…

Chi Lin, seeing her changing expressions, her mind clearly wandering, tapped her forehead:

    “Stop overthinking things.”

So, subjects could tap their Emperor’s forehead.

Well, there could be some playful intimacy between emperor and subject.

“What am I overthinking?” Lou Mi grabbed Chi Lin’s hands. “Tell me.”

Chi Lin couldn’t bring herself to say it: “I won’t fall for your tricks.”

Lou Mi couldn’t get enough of Chi Lin, longing to remember everything from their past life.

“So, should I call you ‘sister,’ or ‘Your Majesty’ from now on?” This had been bothering Chi Lin lately.

Lou Mi seemed to have accepted her past life, but Chi Lin was still worried about accidentally offending her.

She had listed all the potentially disrespectful scenarios, asking for Lou Mi’s guidance.

“Is that even a question?” Lou Mi turned to face her. “You can call me whatever you want. Isn’t calling me by my name good enough?”

    “Just Lou Mi?”

“Lou Mi seems a bit distant, how about Mi Mi?” Chi Lin was older, and whether it was a term of endearment from a senior or a lover, Lou Mi liked it.

But Chi Lin remembered the horrifying nickname the original Chi Lin had saved for Lou Mi in her contacts, and she had a slight aversion to “Mi Mi.”

“How about ‘baby’? Hmm?” Lou Mi leaned closer, nuzzling Chi Lin’s neck.

Chi Lin giggled, shrinking back: “Baby is too cheesy.”

“Minister Chi is so hard to please. Then what should I call you?”

“Minister Chi” transported Chi Lin back to her early years in the court.

The then-princess, her feelings still hidden, had also called her that. It was a title that had stayed with her for many years.

Lost in thought, Chi Lin asked cautiously:

“When we’re alone, can I call you Your Majesty?”

Lou Mi’s gaze softened: “You can even call me Jin Yi. Whatever you like.”

Chi Lin immediately shook her head: “No, just Your Majesty.”

Lou Mi cupped her face, tilting her head up:

“I’m your Majesty, I’m Lou Mi, I’m Jin Yi, these are just titles. If it gives you peace of mind, I can be anyone. Didn’t you say you love me, no matter who I am?”

Chi Lin held her wrist and whispered, “Thank you.”

“Really want to thank me?” Lou Mi whispered back. “There are other ways to show your gratitude.”

    Chi Lin: “?”

  • Can We Get Married First?  96

    Chapter 96

Lou Mi sat in the hot water, concentrating, waiting for another wave of memories.

She soaked until she was dizzy and sweating, but the “sequel” she anticipated never arrived.

It was frustrating. What happened after the mouth-feeding? They had already… done it, she had already taken the lead, why was there a gap in her memory here?

Lou Mi felt the pain of a cliffhanger.

It seemed she wouldn’t get the rest of the story.

She got out of the bath, her skin flushed, the scent of the bath bomb making her feel like a blooming rose.

Tonight, this vibrant rose would definitely ravish Chi Lin, the innocent little daisy!

No, wait, Chi Lin was still injured.

    Lou Mi was frustrated.

Such a perfect moment for a reunion, and she couldn’t use all her moves! She wanted to act out the “sequel” with Chi Lin right now.

But for Chi Lin’s health, she had to restrain herself…

But cuddling all night was fine, right?

Lou Mi excitedly found her favorite perfume, sprayed it into the air, letting it fall on her like a fragrant mist, then picked up a newly bought nightgown.

This wine-red silk nightgown was even more revealing than the one Chi Lin had criticized before, perfectly accentuating her figure.

After blow-drying her hair, she put on the nightgown and admired herself in the mirror.

    Guaren was truly beautiful.

She couldn’t wait to see Chi Lin mesmerized by her.

As Lou Mi walked through the living room again, Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan, seeing her attire, stared.

Lou Mi greeted them casually and went to Chi Lin’s room.

Lou Lixing: “Ahem! Should we wear earplugs tonight…?”

Peng Ziyuan smacked him on the head: “What are you thinking?! Those two kids wouldn’t be so indecent.”

The TV was on, but Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan weren’t paying attention to the dialogue.

They clearly heard Lou Mi’s sweet voice calling out, “Little Lin,” after entering the room.

Peng Ziyuan quietly took out a pair of earplugs.

“You know,” she said, “we should really start pushing Mi Mi and Little Lin to get married.”

When Lou Mi entered the room, Chi Lin was trying to turn over and lie on her stomach.

The pain seemed to have lessened slightly, the sharp pangs now a dull ache.

Lying on her back made her uncomfortable.

Chi Lin had rarely been injury-free during her years on the battlefield. Her Majesty had nursed her back to health in Shangjing, and those old wounds had gradually faded.

She was experienced in dealing with pain and needed to adjust her position.

Hearing Lou Mi’s voice, Chi Lin looked towards the door. In the dim light, Lou Mi’s long, pale legs appeared, almost taking Chi Lin’s breath away.

“You…” Chi Lin’s gaze was fixed. “What are you doing?”

“What, don’t I look good?” Lou Mi leaned over Chi Lin, her hands on either side of her body, caging her beneath her.

    “No… you look beautiful.”

    “Especially beautiful?”

    “Yes.”

Lou Mi had wanted to tease her, but seeing her uncomfortable posture, knowing that her injuries were hindering her movements, even lying down was difficult, she decided to be gentle.

“Does it hurt here?” Lou Mi gently touched the area near Chi Lin’s shoulder blade.

    “Yes.”

“Did you hit the rocks when you were protecting me?”

    Chi Lin nodded.

Falling from such a height, even with the water cushioning the impact, must have been incredibly painful.

Chi Lin, usually reserved with her words, was now speaking in single syllables, a clear sign of her discomfort.

    “Can I take a look?”

“At my back…” Chi Lin hesitated.

Lou Mi, recalling Xie Buyu’s mention of the emperor-subject roleplay, felt a thrill of anticipation.

She knew how conservative Chi Lin was, her reservedness not just because she was from ancient times, but her inherent personality.

Asking to see her back, which meant lifting her clothes, would definitely make Chi Lin hesitate.

Lou Mi told herself she was only concerned about Chi Lin’s injuries, that she just wanted to check, not to assert her dominance as the Emperor, definitely not…

“There’s probably nothing to see, your body is fine.”

“I just want to check, to be sure.”

“You really want to see?” Chi Lin looked back at her.

    Lou Mi nodded firmly.

    “Okay…” Chi Lin agreed.

As Chi Lin lifted her shirt, a wave of guilt washed over Lou Mi.

    Why was she so obedient?!

Chi Lin’s compliance melted Lou Mi’s heart.

And Chi Lin was older, an older sister…

Lou Mi, once a self-proclaimed “little sister lover,” had now become a “big sister lover.”

Her preferences seemed entirely dependent on Chi Lin.

Chi Lin struggled to reach her back. Lou Mi couldn’t bear to see her strain herself:

    “Let me help you.”

    “Okay…”

Lou Mi lifted Chi Lin’s pajama top. Her back was smooth and unblemished, confirming that the pain wasn’t from any external injuries.

But whenever she touched the area near her shoulder blade, Chi Lin winced.

Seeing Chi Lin’s discomfort made Lou Mi’s heart ache, and her desire for intimacy felt almost sinful.

She gently lowered Chi Lin’s shirt and lay down beside her, extending her arm:

“Use my arm as a pillow.”

    “It’ll get numb.”

    “It won’t, come here.”

As she spoke, Lou Mi moved closer.

Chi Lin couldn’t resist and snuggled against Lou Mi’s arm.

The warmth of Lou Mi’s arm against her cheek was comforting.

She wrapped her arms around Lou Mi’s waist, holding her tightly, like a small animal seeking refuge in its owner’s embrace after a harrowing experience, and quickly fell asleep.

Lou Mi hadn’t even had a chance to whisper any sweet nothings.

She had always known Chi Lin was both strong and vulnerable, but she hadn’t realized how clingy she could be.

This silent form of affection was incredibly endearing. She wanted to be held like this forever…

No, for two lifetimes, three lifetimes, for all eternity.

Knowing about souls and reincarnation made one cherish the present even more.

Looking at Chi Lin’s peaceful sleeping face, Lou Mi kept thinking of Chi Lin’s true form.

She wished she could have a relationship with that Chi Lin, she loved that face.

That was the face that truly matched her soul…

No wonder she was so caring.

Remembering the term “Lin Jie,” Lou Mi suddenly realized she hadn’t told Chi Lin about the recovered memories.

She wouldn’t disturb her now, she could tell her tomorrow.

Imagining Chi Lin’s joy, Lou Mi smiled as she drifted off to sleep.

She had expected to dream of her past life, but she slept soundly, remembering nothing.

The next morning, she woke up to see Chi Lin’s sleeping face. They hadn’t moved all night, still in the same position.

Lou Mi wanted to get up and make breakfast for Chi Lin; she would be happy to wake up to a table full of delicious food.

But Chi Lin was holding her so tightly that any movement would only tighten her grip, preventing Lou Mi from getting out of bed.

Was she holding her this tightly because she was afraid of losing her again?

Lou Mi sighed and gently kissed Chi Lin’s lips.

On the third kiss, Chi Lin’s eyes fluttered open.

Seeing Lou Mi’s smiling face so close, Chi Lin closed her eyes again and smiled:

    “What are you doing?”

    “Kissing you.”

“So energetic this early in the morning.”

    “How’s your back? Still hurting?”

Chi Lin moved slightly, her brow furrowing a little.

“Just a dull ache, not as bad as yesterday. It should be fine after another day of rest.”

“It won’t heal that quickly, you’re just saying that to make me feel better. Don’t go to school today, I’ll tell the club, just stay home and rest.”

Chi Lin, indeed feeling a bit lazy, asked, “Is that okay?”

“Of course, don’t push yourself so hard. What do you want for breakfast? I’ll make it for you!”

Chi Lin was starving, her stomach rumbling loudly.

    “Vegetable porridge and milk.”

“That’s it? Are you sure you don’t want something more substantial?”

    “Do you have smoked salmon?”

“Yes, yes, of course.” Lou Mi suddenly smiled sweetly, leaning closer. “Lin Jie can have whatever she wants.”

Hearing this, Chi Lin gasped and looked at Lou Mi in disbelief:

“What did you just call me?”

“Does Lin Jie want me to say it again?”

Lou Mi had found the title embarrassing, inwardly complaining about the Empress’s childishness, but saying it herself was strangely satisfying. She wanted to shout it from the rooftops.

Chi Lin grabbed her arm, her voice urgent:

    “But, didn’t you forget everything?”

    “I remembered some things later.”

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner!” Chi Lin’s outburst triggered a coughing fit.

“Don’t get so excited…” Lou Mi gently rubbed her back. “I wanted to tell you last night, but you fell asleep too quickly.”

    “What did you remember?”

Chi Lin’s eyes were sharp, as if expecting Lou Mi to reveal the secret to restoring her nation.

Lou Mi had only wanted to tease her, forgetting Chi Lin’s heavy burden. Her playful banter backfired, and she felt slightly awkward.

She could only tell Chi Lin about the shared flower cake memory. Chi Lin’s face flushed, and she looked away, sighing:

“Why would you remember that? But, it does sound like something you would do.”

“I’ll remember everything.” Lou Mi promised. “Give me some time, just stay here with me, and I’ll focus on regaining my memories!”

“How are you going to do that?” Chi Lin sat up.

“Don’t move, I’ll call you when breakfast is ready.”

“It’s fine, I should move around, it’ll help my injuries heal.”

“I haven’t figured it out yet, but the trip to Dayuan confirmed my identity, and my memories are slowly returning. What’s mine will eventually come back. You just have to be patient.”

Chi Lin sensed a deeper meaning in her words, the “what’s mine” referring to more than just memories.

“I’m fine, and I have plenty of time. No matter how much time passes here, the time in Dayuan remains the same.”

    “That amazing?”

“Yes. I’ve verified it myself. Before I traveled here, the Imperial Preceptor said that using the Soul-Chasing Secret Art would incur divine retribution. I spent nine months in this era, and when I returned, he had only recently passed away.”

“But time moves normally here. However long we spent in the abyss, the same amount of time passed here.”

“Even the Imperial Preceptor didn’t fully understand his own secret art, let alone others. Don’t worry, just try to remember, and write down anything that comes to mind.”

    “Okay!”

With her identity confirmed, Lou Mi no longer had any reason to be jealous.

Now, whenever the Empress or Dayuan was mentioned, Lou Mi felt a sense of responsibility.

They were united in their purpose.

Lou Mi wanted to bring breakfast to Chi Lin’s room, but Chi Lin refused.

The smell of food would linger in the bedroom, and with Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan around, it wouldn’t be appropriate.

She insisted on eating in the living room with everyone. Chi Lin tried to hide her injuries, but Peng Ziyuan noticed.

“What’s wrong, Little Lin? Are you feeling unwell?”

Peng Ziyuan had noticed that Chi Lin hadn’t practiced her martial arts this morning, her movements were slow, and her complexion was pale.

Before Chi Lin could answer, Peng Ziyuan instinctively looked at Lou Mi.

Lou Mi panicked under her gaze.

Why suspect me immediately? It wasn’t her fault!

But Chi Lin had been injured protecting her, so she wasn’t entirely innocent either.

Lou Mi could only accept Peng Ziyuan’s silent accusation.

Chi Lin, supported by Lou Mi, sat down and said to Peng Ziyuan:

“I accidentally bumped my back, it has nothing to do with Sister, I’ll be fine in a couple of days.”

Peng Ziyuan fussed over her, while Lou Lixing whispered to Lou Mi:

“As your father, I shouldn’t say this, but Mi Mi, this is your first relationship, right? I have to remind you of something.”

    Lou Mi: “?”

“Little Lin might be strong, but she’s still young. Don’t be too rough with her.”

Question marks floated above Lou Mi’s head.

Old Lou, what were you thinking?! Did you think Chi Lin’s injuries were from her being too rough?

How did he even come up with that?!

But she couldn’t exactly tell them that they had traveled to another dimension last night and Chi Lin had been injured saving her life.

She had just realized that in her father’s eyes, she was a sex-crazed maniac.

Lou Mi scowled: “Old Lou, stop overthinking things! You’ve been distracted since last night, so this is what you were thinking about! Calling you a pervert is an understatement. Now finish your breakfast and go to work!”

Mentioning last night only reminded Lou Lixing of Lou Mi’s strange behavior.

But her indignant response reassured him; this was his daughter, no one else.

Chi Lin asked Peng Ziyuan to call Ms. Qi and excuse her from school, saying she had injured her back and needed to rest at home.

After making the call, Peng Ziyuan decided to stay home and take care of Chi Lin.

“No need, Mother, go to work, don’t let me hold you back.”

“Lou Mi is going to the club today, right? I can’t leave you here alone.”

Lou Mi, packing her things in her room, called out, “I’ll only be gone for two hours, I’ll be back soon.”

Chi Lin finally managed to persuade Peng Ziyuan to leave.

N-T’s CEO was visiting their branch today, and the entire company was in a frenzy of preparation. They couldn’t function without her.

Before leaving, Peng Ziyuan hugged Chi Lin tightly:

“My precious daughter, please don’t get sick or injured again, it breaks Mommy’s heart. You’re my heart and soul, I wish I could take the pain for you…”

    Chi Lin: “…Mother, I can’t breathe.”

If it weren’t for her colleagues frantically calling, saying the CEO had arrived, Peng Ziyuan might have continued cuddling her daughter.

Lou Lixing had left early, and Peng Ziyuan also rushed out.

Lou Mi had been hiding at home for days and had to attend the club’s executive meeting today.

If Xie Buyu hadn’t mentioned it in the group chat, she would have completely forgotten.

“Honey.” Peng Ziyuan, after showering Chi Lin with affection, now turned to Lou Mi, hugging her tightly. “I really don’t want to leave you alone, I want to stay with you. You’re so soft and fragrant, have you always smelled this nice? So adorable.”

Chi Lin blushed under her affectionate assault, afraid that Peng Ziyuan wouldn’t leave if she continued, so she gently held her wrist:

“You should go, I’ll be fine resting at home.”

“I can tell, you’re tired of me!”

Chi Lin was about to explain when she saw the affection in Lou Mi’s eyes, there was no hint of anger:

“Even your annoyance is adorable. Tell me, what kind of empress and general are you? Are you a little fox spirit I saved in a past life?”

Chi Lin’s skin crawled: “Please stop.”

“You’re annoyed with me. Sigh, even your annoyance is so elegant.”

    Chi Lin: “…”

Lou Mi reluctantly left. Chi Lin insisted on seeing her off to the garage, then took the elevator back upstairs.

Walking around eased the ache in her back.

She brought the letters from the fridge. Some of the pages had flattened out, but the ink was still illegible.

Chi Lin sighed, feeling that fate was fair, she had lost precious mementos, but she had regained her lover.

The current Lou Mi was so similar to Her Majesty, their playful banter and occasional tantrums almost identical.

    Finally, they were together again.

Barely five minutes after Lou Mi left, fifty WeChat messages arrived.

Chi Lin listened to the voice messages, barely having time to reply.

Seeing the messages piling up, she could almost see Lou Mi’s excitement.

“Okay, go to sleep, I won’t bother you anymore…” Lou Mi’s last message was soft and gentle.

Chi Lin lay in bed, listening to Lou Mi’s voice as she drifted off to sleep.

This time, she would keep her promise and spend her life protecting Her Majesty.

Lou Mi, sipping coffee and listening to the “50 Must-Listen Love Songs” playlist, arrived at the club.

Two trainees, chasing each other playfully, ran down the hallway, then tripped and fell, tumbling towards Lou Mi.

“What the hell, why were you chasing me! My hand is bleeding!”

“Why were you running? Of course I chased you!”

They continued to bicker and complain. Looking up, they saw HighTowerMiyuki standing before them, her eyes cold.

    The two boys froze.

Everyone knew how strict Sister Lou was, demanding not only in training and strategy but also in all aspects of the club’s operations. She wouldn’t hesitate to criticize anyone, even the management.

Sister Lou wasn’t just the queen of Return to Jianghu, but also the queen of ENIAC. The two trainees were practically suffocating under her intense gaze.

Just as they were about to apologize and swear they would never cause trouble in the club again, Lou Mi smiled.

Her smile almost stopped their hearts.

“Rise.” Lou Mi said cheerfully. “Why are you still on the floor? Are you hurt?”

    “No…”

“Sister Fu Tu is training you today, be good, and I’ll treat you to dinner later.”

    “Okay…”

Lou Mi walked away, still smiling, the two boys staring after her, their eyes glued to her.

    “I think I’m dreaming.”

    “What was that ‘rise’ about?”

“So gentle and kind, this must be a fake HighTowerMiyuki.”

Lou Mi was the first to arrive at the executive meeting.

Zhuo Jinglan and Huhu, arriving together, were surprised to see her.

“Did the sun rise from the west today?” Zhuo Jinglan teased. “Another fight with your little sister, couldn’t stand being at home?”

As Zhuo Jinglan sat down, Lou Mi suddenly turned around, almost scaring her out of her chair:

“Are you an owl or something?”

Lou Mi placed her coffee on the table, leaned over Zhuo Jinglan’s chair, her hands on the armrests, and looked into her eyes.

“Wh-what are you doing?!” Zhuo Jinglan, who had never been cornered like this in her forty years of life, almost turned green. What was wrong with this ancestor now?

“Did you really have a fight?” Zhuo Jinglan asked.

Lou Mi shook her head: “We fought, but we made up.”

    Zhuo Jinglan: “Huh?”

“You wouldn’t understand.” Lou Mi stood up, a shy smile on her face, and walked away.

    Zhuo Jinglan: “??”

The meeting was about to begin, the executives had all joined the holographic projection, and Xie Buyu and Fu Tu finally arrived, breathless, and quickly sat down.

Fu Tu sat down a bit too hard, wincing and clutching her back, her expression pained.

Xie Buyu, sitting opposite her, wanted to go over and comfort her.

But the meeting was starting; she couldn’t.

Zhuo Jinglan whispered to Fu Tu, “What’s wrong?”

Fu Tu shook her head, indicating she was fine.

Zhuo Jinglan: “I don’t understand you young people, always rushing around. We have a meeting, all the bosses are here, waiting for you two!”

She had wanted to use Lou Mi’s early arrival as a positive example to lecture Xie Buyu and Fu Tu, but Lou Mi spoke first, patting Fu Tu’s hand gently:

“I understand, sometimes it’s really hard to leave.”

    Zhuo Jinglan: “…”

Fu Tu, trembling: “…Sister Mi, please don’t, you’re scaring me.”

The meeting left everyone parched. After the executives left, Zhuo Jinglan kept the Nine Heavens team behind to discuss the upcoming season.

The technical advisors analyzed Nine Heavens’ strengths and weaknesses, and potential improvements to their strategies.

After another hour and a half of discussion, Lou Mi, worried about Chi Lin being alone at home, was restless.

Zhuo Jinglan asked her, “What’s wrong with Little Sister? She’s taking the day off.”

“She has a fever. Don’t push her so hard, she has school and the competition, she’s busy enough.”

“…I was just asking, showing some concern, how is that pushing her too hard? The fans are even more demanding, clamoring for her to stream, even the management is asking me to have her do some PR!”

Lou Mi didn’t understand: “PR? We’re esports players, not celebrities, what PR?”

“Really? Then why don’t you tell that to your CP fans? Your ‘Snow Vegetable’ topic is trending everywhere! Even my niece is asking me for your autographs, pestering me until 2 am for gossip about you two, and it has to be sweet, or she won’t have it. You’re the one posting photos together and wearing matching cheering gear, and now you’re saying ‘what PR’? Are you serious?! You two are enjoying your private moments, while we’re being hounded by the fans! You have the guts to date but not the guts to do some PR, why don’t you come out and give them some candy yourself?!”

Zhuo Jinglan, clearly frustrated, vented her frustrations in one long rant, leaving her breathless.

Lou Mi calmly handed her a glass of water, which Zhuo Jinglan waved away.

“Okay,” Lou Mi sighed. “PR can’t be forced, it’ll be awkward and insincere. Meeting adjourned.”

    “…”

Zhuo Jinglan regretted not taking the water; she should have thrown it in Lou Mi’s face.

  • Can We Get Married First?  95p2

    Chapter 95 p2

    ***

    Memory was a mysterious thing.

Losing the memories of a shared past could erase all the love and warmth.

Would you still be you? Would your lover still be your lover?

Lou Mi yearned to regain her memories, to remember every moment with Chi Lin.

She wasn’t afraid of hardship, embarrassment, or even death.

She just wanted to cherish everything about Chi Lin.

Even if she never regained her memories, she was willing to listen to Chi Lin’s stories about the Empress.

Whatever Chi Lin loved about the Empress, she would strive to become.

She hadn’t expected such a direct confession from Chi Lin.

This was for her, Lou Mi, Chi Lin’s love for her.

Not the Empress, not a past life, not anyone else—Lou Mi cupped Chi Lin’s face and kissed her.

    You’re mine.

Lou Mi had never been so passionate, so unrestrained. Chi Lin’s words ignited a fire in her heart, burning away all the sadness and uncertainty.

It wasn’t enough. Chi Lin, holding her shoulders, returned the kiss with equal fervor.

    Unprecedented.

Chi Lin pressed close, her fingers gripping Lou Mi’s shirt, resisting the urge to pull it up.

    There was no need.

Lou Mi took off her wet jacket and tossed it aside.

Chi Lin’s warm fingers brushed against her left side, then stopped abruptly.

Lou Mi, sensing her hesitation, opened her eyes, the passion still lingering in her gaze:

    “What’s wrong?”

“You’re injured.” Chi Lin looked at her side.

Lou Mi hesitated for a moment, then touched the spot: “Oh, this is an old injury.”

    “Old injury?”

“Yes, I’ve had it since I was very young, I don’t even remember, my mom told me about it.”

“How did you get it?” Chi Lin asked eagerly.

“An accident, I guess, my mom doesn’t know the details either. She said I was born with it, and the doctors couldn’t explain it. My family even argued with the hospital, but it wasn’t their fault, so we settled. But we still don’t know how it happened, it’s a mystery.”

“Let me see.” Chi Lin leaned closer, examining Lou Mi’s side carefully.

Lou Mi’s heart was still racing from Chi Lin’s sudden passion, she hadn’t expected her to stop because of this…

But if she wanted to see it, she could.

The moment she saw the scar, Chi Lin gasped, her eyes widening in surprise.

“Is it that shocking… I know it looks like a knife wound, but I was born with it.” Lou Mi suddenly remembered something. “You asked me about birthmarks before? Maybe this is my birthmark, just a bit unusual.”

Chi Lin stared at it, speechless, her gaze fixed.

Lou Mi: “What’s wrong? You’re scaring me.”

“I want to tell you something, about the connection between you and Her Majesty.” Chi Lin looked at Lou Mi. “Do you want to hear it?”

Lou Mi’s skin tingled: “Tell me, did you find some physical evidence?”

She had just asked casually, but Chi Lin nodded.

“Holy shit?!” Lou Mi almost jumped up. “This scar?”

Chi Lin recounted the incident when Her Majesty had shielded her from a sword strike, the blade piercing her left side.

The injury had almost killed Her Majesty and left a permanent scar.

The location, the shape, it was identical to Lou Mi’s scar.

    So that was it!

    Lou Mi was stunned.

Fate was truly unpredictable and mysterious.

The physical evidence she had been searching for was right there on her body.

This scar, a mark of love and sacrifice, had carried over from her past life.

Chi Lin hadn’t expected reincarnation to be so romantic.

Her beloved had brought the proof of her love with her.

As Chi Lin told Lou Mi the story of the scar, she was slightly worried.

Lou Mi had clearly expressed her reluctance to be the Empress earlier, would she be upset now?

But Lou Mi was ecstatic, overjoyed, she almost wanted to fly!

“Really! So I really am the Empress!” Lou Mi practically jumped up, her eyes shining.

Chi Lin, stunned, then amused, said, “You entered Her Majesty’s body when we returned to Dayuan, and now we’ve found the matching scar. And…”

Lou Mi asked eagerly, “And what? And you, the eyewitness, right? No matter how many times I’m reincarnated, you’ll always love me, right?”

Chi Lin blushed: “Don’t say such crazy things…”

“If you weren’t injured, I would show you how crazy I can be!”

    I’m the Empress, it’s me!

Overwhelmed by happiness, Lou Mi wanted to open the window, fly into the stratosphere, stand on the moon, and shout:

    I’m the fucking Empress!

    Who else could it be?!

“Now we have subjective evidence, physical evidence, and eyewitness testimony, a perfect trifecta.” Lou Mi sat on the sofa, hands on her knees, and smiled at Chi Lin. “Shouldn’t the Empress come and acknowledge her Emperor?”

Chi Lin laughed, the pain in her back causing tears to well up: “Don’t tease me… You were just resisting it, you didn’t want to be the Empress.”

“That’s different! I didn’t want to be her, but I am! Sigh, fate has chosen me, I have no choice but to be the Emperor.”

Lou Mi was practically bouncing off the walls.

It took Chi Lin a while to calm her down. Lou Mi, composing herself, looked at the letters and said:

“I’ll write you new ones, handwritten, a thousand, ten thousand letters!”

“Do you want to lose your hand?”

    “I have you, I don’t need a hand!”

This trip to Dayuan had been a rollercoaster of emotions, from the depths of despair to the peak of euphoria.

Okay, Lou Mi made peace with her past life self.

    She wouldn’t be jealous anymore.

    “Mi Mi, are you alright?”

Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan, hearing her shouts from Chi Lin’s room, were worried and came to check on them.

The door suddenly flew open, startling them.

Lou Mi kissed them both on the forehead, declared, “Dinner’s on me tomorrow,” and slammed the door shut.

Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan, dumbfounded: “??”

The loss of the letters was heartbreaking, but the unexpected discovery made them even happier.

The long-standing mystery was finally solved. Lou Mi decided to take a hot bath.

“I’m sleeping with you tonight.” Before leaving, Lou Mi pulled Chi Lin onto the bed and resumed her clingy mode. “Don’t worry, I’ll be good, I won’t touch your injuries!”

Chi Lin also wanted to spend more time with her tonight.

“It’s okay, you can move however you want.”

Chi Lin hadn’t meant anything by it, but seeing Lou Mi’s reaction, her eyes widening, she realized her words might have been misinterpreted…

Lou Mi held her hand: “Really?”

It seemed she had indeed read too much into it.

Modern people’s minds were quick to jump to conclusions.

But Chi Lin had no reason to refuse.

She also missed her wife terribly.

Chi Lin’s lips parted slightly, and just as Lou Mi anticipated her request, she turned away with a smile:

“Don’t be silly, go take your bath. You’re still wet, you’ll catch a cold.”

    Lou Mi cursed inwardly.

How could she be so adorable?

    Even her pretense was captivating?

If she were still the Emperor, she would post a notice everywhere—

    Have you seen this woman?

Good, now you have. She’s my wife, and she’s a thousand times cuter in person.

After all the excitement, she should have been exhausted, but Lou Mi felt energized, ready to climb Mount Everest.

She skipped to her bathroom, humming, and saw Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan sitting on the sofa, eating fruit.

They were pretending to eat fruit while secretly observing her.

Lou Mi didn’t avoid their gaze. Instead, she approached them cheerfully, her smile reaching her ears, patted Lou Lixing’s shoulder, and said:

“Old Lou, looking good. With that rosy complexion and honest face, who would guess you’re the Retired Emperor?”

With that, she left, leaving Lou Lixing with his grapes almost falling from his hand.

“Yuan Yuan,” Lou Lixing’s face turned green. “What’s wrong with Mi Mi? Should we really take her to see a doctor?”

Peng Ziyuan wasn’t sure either, but this situation was alarming.

They had to observe her closely.

Back in her room, Lou Mi undressed and stood in front of the mirror, examining the scar on her side.

She used to think it was ugly, now she found it endearing.

Touching the scar, she tossed a bath bomb into the tub. As it dissolved, a familiar scent filled the air.

She had smelled this scent somewhere before.

She stepped into the bathtub and froze, trying to recall the scent.

A flower cake, a purple flower cake, she had eaten it somewhere, the taste similar to this bath bomb.

The flower cake was delicious, someone close to her often made it for her.

The scent alone was enough for others, but she loved the taste.

She didn’t know if it was her unique taste, or because that person made it, that she loved it so much.

    Who was that person…?

Lou Mi leaned against the wall, a sharp pain in her temple.

A memory surfaced with the pain.

    “Your Majesty.”

It was Chi Lin, in her true form.

She was wearing a light blue dress, sitting behind a simple table with a plate of food, holding a small, purple cake, and offering it to her.

“Try it, I adjusted it to your liking.” Chi Lin’s voice was gentle and patient, like she was coaxing a child. “It’ll be delicious this time.”

“I want Lin Jie to feed me.”

Was that her speaking? Lou Mi was startled. Was her voice really that sweet and childish?

Wasn’t she the Emperor in her past life? Why was her voice so soft?

Was this a past life memory?

Lou Mi straightened up—I remember again? Are you kidding me?

Why did she forget, and now remember again?

Perhaps her memories were still unstable after just returning?

So, she had been worried for nothing…

Chi Lin, having no choice, brought the cake to her lips.

Chi Lin’s hand paused, and she said with a smile, “Your Majesty, open your mouth.”

“I want Lin Jie to feed me with her mouth.”

Lou Mi almost kicked the bathtub across the room.

Lin Jie? What a ridiculously embarrassing title!

Was she really that much of a spoiled brat in her past life?!

Not just spoiled, but also helpless, needing to be fed with someone’s mouth?!

And even if she was spoiled, she was definitely the dominant one! Stop acting cute!

If Lou Mi were watching a movie, she would have smashed the screen.

Unfortunately, these were her memories, playing out in her mind, impossible to ignore even if she closed her eyes and covered her ears.

Chi Lin really did feed her, even the sensation on her tongue was vivid.

    It was too much.

Lou Mi sank into the hot water, realizing it wasn’t even as hot as her face.

Well, since she couldn’t forget, she might as well enjoy it…

Was that it? Just the mouth-feeding part? Was there a sequel?

    Chapter 95 p1

Chi Lin lowered her head, silent.

Lou Mi knew she was heartbroken.

She imagined how she would feel if all her chat logs with Chi Lin were deleted, with no backups. She would probably cry for days.

But Chi Lin was injured and drenched; she couldn’t stay in the bathroom any longer. What was done was done; Lou Mi had to focus on what came next.

“Little Lin, come here.” Lou Mi carefully folded the damaged letters and gathered the other items, then returned to help Chi Lin. “Let’s go inside and change your clothes. Can you stand?”

“Mm…” Chi Lin wrapped her arms around Lou Mi’s neck and, with her help, stood up, slowly making her way to the sofa in the bedroom.

Lou Mi had already laid a blanket on the sofa and started to help Chi Lin out of her wet clothes.

“Sister,” Chi Lin whispered, “I can do it myself.”

“You’re injured, you can barely stand, don’t strain yourself. Or do you not want me to see?”

    “No…”

“Then let me help. Sit down.”

Lou Mi sat beside Chi Lin and dried her hair, pinning it up with a clip so it wouldn’t get in the way.

She carefully unbuttoned Chi Lin’s shirt and helped her into a dry, comfortable pajama top.

Throughout the process, Lou Mi was attentive and gentle, her gaze fixed on Chi Lin’s face, avoiding looking elsewhere to spare her any embarrassment.

After changing her top, it was time for the pajama pants, which meant changing her underwear first.

    “Take them off?”

    “…I’ll do it myself.”

    “Okay.”

Lou Mi left her to it and went to fetch a clean pair of underwear.

As she opened Chi Lin’s closet, she heard a rustling sound from the sofa.

Giving Chi Lin ample time, Lou Mi lingered in front of the closet, taking the opportunity to examine its contents.

Just as she imagined, it was clean and organized, every item neatly folded or hung, meticulous.

A faint fragrance lingered, not like perfume, but a blend of flowers and herbs.

“Where do you keep your underwear? In the drawer?” Lou Mi asked.

    “Yes.”

    “I’m opening it.”

    “Okay.”

Her heart pounding with anticipation, Lou Mi carefully opened the drawer.

Just like Chi Lin’s outer appearance, her underwear was simple and elegant.

But some of the lace and frills were incredibly cute…

And the little flowers and hearts, a completely girlish style.

Lou Mi felt a bit dizzy from the cuteness and pinched herself to stay focused.

    “I’ll just grab one.”

Chi Lin mumbled a response. Lou Mi turned around and saw that Chi Lin had pulled the blanket from the bed and covered herself with it.

Lou Mi wondered, was this Chi Lin’s usual modesty, or was it because she was back in her modern body, no longer Her Majesty, creating a distance between them?

In Dayuan, Chi Lin had embraced her so tightly…

“Thank you.” Chi Lin reached for the underwear.

“I’ll help you.” Lou Mi, feeling a twinge of annoyance, seeing how much effort every movement cost Chi Lin, insisted on helping her.

“Come on,” Lou Mi had Chi Lin lean against the armrest. “Lift your hips a little.”

Reaching under the blanket, Lou Mi knelt on the sofa, one leg supporting her weight.

She leaned forward, their faces close.

Chi Lin, having exhausted her remaining energy getting undressed and pulling the blanket over herself, struggled to lift her hips.

Lou Mi, seeing her struggle, took one side of the underwear, and they both lifted it together. Lou Mi placed her other hand under Chi Lin’s back, supporting her.

The entire process happened under the blanket, completely hidden.

Finally changed, Chi Lin was drenched in sweat.

As Lou Mi helped her with her pajama pants, she said worriedly, “Let’s go to the hospital, you’re injured, you need to get checked.”

Chi Lin shook her head and, after catching her breath, said, “It’s probably not related to this body, it’s the injuries from jumping off the cliff, they affected my soul. Modern medicine probably can’t detect soul injuries. If they could, that would be even more frightening.”

“But you can’t just endure it, I…” Lou Mi wanted to say she couldn’t bear to see her suffer, but the words caught in her throat.

Chi Lin, her attention partly focused on the pain, still noticed Lou Mi’s subtle change in behavior and expression, and she understood why Lou Mi was suddenly distant.

    “I’m always like this.”

Lou Mi looked at her, confused.

    “Even when we’re intimate, I’m still a bit… reserved.”

Lou Mi understood; Chi Lin was referring to her insistence on changing her own underwear.

Lou Mi realized how easily she was appeased, just these few words made her feel better.

She tried to persuade Chi Lin again, but Chi Lin refused to go to the hospital.

She was afraid the doctors would discover her unusual soul-body situation.

Lou Mi thought she was overthinking it: “Modern medicine might be advanced, but they can’t detect that. Don’t be stubborn, let’s go.”

“But this body has no external injuries, they’ll just take some scans. If they find something, I’ll be taken away, and if they don’t, it’s just a waste of time. I’ll be fine in a few days, don’t worry.”

    “How can I not worry…”

Chi Lin smiled and caressed Lou Mi’s cheek: “I’m very strong, these minor injuries will heal after a good night’s sleep. Are you alright, though? Were you scared?”

“It was nothing.” Lou Mi smiled faintly.

She could no longer see Chi Lin as her “little sister.”

Chi Lin’s true form kept appearing in her mind; every time she saw the moles under Chi Lin’s eyes, she would remember her true appearance.

Around Chi Lin, she couldn’t help but feel a bit shy.

Lou Mi poured them two cups of tea. Chi Lin drank her tea while Lou Mi sat on the floor, spreading out the wet letters.

“Is there any way to save them?” Chi Lin asked, suddenly alert.

In her time, ink bleeding to this extent meant the letters were beyond saving.

But perhaps modern technology had a solution!

Lou Mi searched on her phone for a while, then, pursing her lips, said seriously:

“I wish I had better news, but from my experience, this kind of damage is irreversible. I’ll ask around and see if there’s a way to restore them. I know how important Her Majesty’s letters are to you, I’ll do my best to recover them.”

Chi Lin got off the sofa and sat beside her on the floor.

“Hey, what are you doing, don’t move.”

Chi Lin insisted on sitting with her and held her hand.

“You returning to Her Majesty’s body is the best proof, you are Her Majesty, you are the same person, I’ve found you. I only went to retrieve the letters to trigger your memories. Now that you remember, the letters… although it’s a pity, it’s not a big deal. Regaining your memories is what matters most.”

Chi Lin, despite her obvious heartbreak, comforted Lou Mi.

Lou Mi took a deep breath. She couldn’t hide it any longer.

“Little Lin, there’s something I have to tell you.”

Chi Lin looked at her, slightly nervous: “What is it?”

“In Dayuan, I did remember some things. But now… after returning, I don’t know why, but I’ve forgotten everything.”

    “Everything?!”

“Yes.” Lou Mi looked at Chi Lin honestly. “I only remember that I remembered something, but the actual events are blurry, like these letters. I have some vague impressions, but I can’t recall any details.”

Chi Lin stared at her silently, speechless.

Seeing her disappointment, Lou Mi chuckled self-deprecatingly:

“You retained some memories when you switched bodies, maybe I just happened to have some connection to your Majesty, or maybe it was proximity? That’s why I entered her body. Perhaps I’m not your Majesty, not your wife, not the person you’re looking for.”

Lou Mi had always been confident, achieving almost everything she set her mind to.

Her smooth-sailing life had shaped her into who she was.

But after meeting Chi Lin, she finally understood that there was a kind of love she couldn’t overcome, a love that transcended lifetimes.

Who was Chi Lin’s past life lover? The Empress, the first female emperor.

How extraordinary must this Empress have been to rise from princess to emperor?

It wasn’t something achieved through mere words or gestures.

She must have been a decisive, intelligent, and charismatic leader, someone worth following to the death.

Even a multi-talented genius like Chi Lin was devoted to her, risking her life to travel through time for her. Her Majesty must have been exceptional.

    Lou Mi probably couldn’t compare.

She had seen the devastation on Chi Lin’s face when the letters were ruined.

She had thought she could finally confirm her identity, only to forget everything again.

    It was a crushing blow.

    Perhaps this was fate.

After saying this, Lou Mi continued to spread out the letters.

“Should we try putting them in the fridge? I think I saw somewhere that it might help restore wrinkled paper. But the ink…” Lou Mi coughed. “We can try tracing the words. Hey, some of them are still legible. If you don’t mind my mediocre brush calligraphy, I can trace them for you? We can salvage whatever we can. I’m starving, do you want something to eat? I’ll make something. Oh, we can also ask your Mr. System if there’s a way to restore them. I’ve been spending too much time with you, I almost forgot about technology.”

Lou Mi, rambling and chuckling to herself, pulled her hand away from Chi Lin’s and stood up, heading towards the kitchen.

After taking a few steps, Chi Lin hugged her from behind.

Chi Lin was still unsteady, and her embrace made Lou Mi stumble.

Lou Mi said anxiously, “Don’t move, your injuries…”

Chi Lin’s embrace was tight, so tight that Lou Mi couldn’t turn around.

    “Little Lin?”

Chi Lin buried her face in Lou Mi’s back, her arms wrapped tightly around her. After a long pause, she finally spoke, her voice choked with emotion:

    “Don’t go.”

These two words, spoken with such vulnerability, almost brought tears to Lou Mi’s eyes.

“I’m not going, I’m just getting us something to eat, I…”

Chi Lin still wouldn’t let go. Lou Mi, losing her balance, stumbled, and they both fell onto the carpet.

“Are you alright?!” Lou Mi shielded Chi Lin, surprised by her recklessness, so unlike her usual cautious self.

Chi Lin, sitting on Lou Mi’s stomach, gripped her hands tightly, afraid she would leave, her eyes bloodshot.

“I love you,” Chi Lin said, looking into Lou Mi’s eyes, her voice filled with urgency and conviction. “No matter who you are.”

    Chapter 94

    “Hurry!”

Chi Lin urged Lou Mi to run. Lou Mi’s head was pounding, making it difficult to think, and she instinctively obeyed, running forward.

A whooshing sound made Chi Lin’s blood run cold. She drew the sword from her back, spun around, and sliced two arrows aimed at the back of their heads out of the air.

“There’s nowhere to run, Chi! You conspired with foreign enemies to assassinate the Emperor! Do you know your crime? Her Majesty treated you as her closest confidante, and you repaid her kindness with betrayal! If you have any conscience left, surrender now and confess!”

Cheng Xuan’s voice boomed through the cave.

He continued his taunts as he approached, followed by dozens of Imperial Guards, armed with spears and swords.

Chi Lin sneered: “Who truly assassinated the Emperor, you know better than anyone, Right Commander.”

Hearing Chi Lin’s voice, Cheng Xuan realized there was someone else in the cave. He heard another set of footsteps further in.

    Who was it?

The deeper they went, the wider the passage became, and torches appeared on the walls.

Cheng Xuan saw the figure Chi Lin was protecting.

It was the Emperor. It really was the Emperor…

Having been a member of the Imperial Guard, Cheng Xuan was familiar with the Emperor’s physique. He couldn’t be mistaken.

    But wasn’t the Emperor dead?

If she weren’t dead, he wouldn’t have been released, and their plan wouldn’t have been set in motion.

But… the Emperor was hiding in this secret passage?

The more Cheng Xuan thought about it, the more confused he became. He continued:

“The capital is in danger, why is Your Majesty hiding in a cave? Are you abandoning the capital, abandoning your people?”

Lou Mi wanted to yell back at him!

His incessant chatter made her head pound even more.

Didn’t he know villains always died from talking too much?

She ignored his taunts and continued running with Chi Lin!

Cheng Xuan was surprised by their speed; even his trained Imperial Guards couldn’t catch up.

But it didn’t matter. He had observed the passage when he entered. One end led to the mountainside, the other to a cliff overlooking the sea.

Even if there were other exits, unless they could fly or teleport, they couldn’t escape his net.

Arrows and spears flew past them. Chi Lin, while running, deflected every attack.

But the passage eventually came to an end. Lou Mi stopped abruptly, almost colliding with Chi Lin.

“It’s… a dead end.” Lou Mi said breathlessly.

The salty sea breeze, whipping through Chi Lin’s hair, confirmed it. There was nowhere left to go.

Below the cliff, dozens of meters down, was the raging sea. It was the middle of the night, the sea was dark, only a few jagged rocks visible.

The crashing waves against the cliffs and rocks made Lou Mi’s heart tremble.

She saw the serene moon in the sky, her soul almost drawn to it.

It reminded her of a similar night, waiting restlessly in a courtyard filled with peonies for Chi Lin’s arrival.

She had waited for a long time, so long that she thought Lin Jie wouldn’t come, that she would never see Chi Lin again.

    But Chi Lin had come.

That night, she had seen the real Chi Lin, heard her confession of love.

The memory brought a smile to her face.

A deep cut appeared on Chi Lin’s wrist. There were more Imperial Guards than she had anticipated. In that moment of life and death, she saw Lou Mi smiling…

“Your Majesty,” Chi Lin had to interrupt her reverie, “the situation is critical, you should focus.”

Lou Mi turned around, facing the approaching Imperial Guards.

Many rebels had infiltrated the Imperial Guard, but those following Cheng Xuan were genuine soldiers, loyal to the throne, but knowing that the Emperor was dead and Dayuan was doomed, they had chosen to side with the rebels to survive.

But as Lou Mi turned, her imperial aura immediately suppressed the approaching guards.

Everyone present finally saw clearly. This was the Emperor of Dayuan!

    She wasn’t dead!

Cheng Xuan stepped forward, scrutinizing Lou Mi in the torchlight.

“Are you unable to recognize who stands before you, Commander?”

Lou Mi, her hands clasped behind her back, looked at Cheng Xuan coldly.

Cheng Xuan didn’t speak or move. Chi Lin noticed his hesitation, he was truly intimidated by Lou Mi.

Chi Lin glanced at Lou Mi, suppressing her amusement.

The others couldn’t tell anything was amiss because, although they were the Emperor’s personal guard, familiar with her appearance and physique, they didn’t truly know her. They couldn’t detect that this body was now inhabited by a soul from hundreds of years in the future.

Lou Mi had said she had regained the Empress’s memories, but whether she remembered everything was uncertain, their earlier conversation interrupted by the guards. Chi Lin didn’t know for sure.

But judging by Lou Mi’s behavior and tone, she was putting on an act.

Fortunately, she had pretended to be the Empress before, and Chi Lin had corrected her self-address.

Now, facing Cheng Xuan and the others, her performance was impeccable, leaving them stunned.

So, there was a use for her dramatic tendencies after all…

The Imperial Guards’ hands trembled as they held their weapons.

If the Emperor wasn’t dead, and they killed her now, they would be guilty of regicide!

Even if no one pursued it now, who knew who would win in the upcoming power struggle?

When the time came, those guilty of regicide would be punished, a crime punishable by the extermination of their entire clan!

No one wanted to bear such a heavy burden, and they hesitated.

Cheng Xuan also had doubts. Was this truly the Emperor? She seemed too real.

Lou Mi inwardly praised her acting skills. If they filmed this scene, she might even win an award.

She didn’t say much, knowing that talking too much would expose her, and her head was still throbbing.

Cheng Xuan bowed to Lou Mi, his eyes glued to her:

“Your Majesty, please don’t misunderstand, I’m here to protect you.” Cheng Xuan, a seasoned veteran, was a master of deception. He glared at Chi Lin.

“This traitor has been exiled, yet she returned to the capital in the dead of night, even holding Your Majesty hostage and attempting to harm you! Your Majesty, don’t be deceived by her lies, come to my side, and I shall execute this traitor immediately!”

Lou Mi sneered: “Why did Guaren exile the Chi clan, has your master not informed you, Commander? Who is truly deceiving Guaren, you know better than anyone.”

Lou Mi’s clear and logical words surprised Chi Lin.

Perhaps the recent joys of a relationship had made Lou Mi a bit too playful, clouding Chi Lin’s judgment.

Lou Mi was actually intelligent and composed under pressure.

As the captain of Nine Heavens, the champion of Return to Jianghu, her mental fortitude and quick thinking were exceptional.

Cheng Xuan couldn’t find any flaws in her act, and as he hesitated, Lou Mi turned to the soldiers and said:

“The capital has fallen, our nation is on the brink of collapse, and you, as soldiers of Dayuan, are surrounding Guaren instead of fighting the enemy?! If the war reaches your homes, endangering your families, you will be the ones to blame! If you have any conscience left, you should know what your priority should be!”

Lou Mi adapted a similar line from the NPC emperor in Return to Jianghu, and her words seemed to sway some of the guards.

She was grateful that her years of gaming experience were in an ancient-style game; some of the logic translated well to this situation.

If she played a space exploration game, she would be completely lost.

Seeing some of the guards exchange glances, Lou Mi added:

“If you change your minds now and follow Guaren, I swear, in the name of the Emperor, that I will pardon all your past transgressions!”

Lou Mi’s performance exceeded Chi Lin’s expectations. Some of the guards actually stepped forward and addressed her as “Your Majesty…”

Cheng Xuan knew he couldn’t let this continue, these simple-minded soldiers might actually be swayed.

If they turned against him, his victory would be jeopardized.

He signaled to Liang Zheng, who drew his sword and charged forward.

Chi Lin blocked Lou Mi, and Liang Zheng, shouting “Protect the Emperor!”, swung his sword at Chi Lin.

He seemed to be aiming for Chi Lin, but his true target was Lou Mi.

Chi Lin wouldn’t let him succeed. She parried his attack, and as Liang Zheng tried to press his advantage, Chi Lin’s sword, swift as lightning, struck his shoulder.

Liang Zheng, startled, stumbled back as blood spurted from his wound. He hadn’t even seen her move.

“Don’t panic!” Cheng Xuan also drew his sword, attacking Chi Lin from the other side.

He shouted to the guards, “There are so many of us, can’t we take down one traitor?! Protect the Emperor! Whoever kills her will be handsomely rewarded!”

Seeing their lieutenant attack, and lured by the promise of reward, some of the hesitant guards joined the fight.

Liang Zheng knew that Chi Lin was a general, renowned for her martial arts skills, and their brief exchange confirmed it.

But she was a woman, no matter how skilled, her strength couldn’t match a man’s.

With a new strategy, Liang Zheng attacked again, his sword clashing against Chi Lin’s, each blow aimed at overwhelming her with brute force.

Chi Lin saw through his intentions. As two more guards joined the fight, she held them all off with a single sword.

Liang Zheng, trying to force her to the ground, his arm trembling and his face red with exertion, found Chi Lin unyielding, like a rock.

Three men couldn’t subdue one woman?!

If it were her modern body, Chi Lin might have been defeated.

But she was in her own body now, her honed and battle-tested body!

With a powerful swing, she forced the three men back, disarming one of them.

She spun around, her knee slamming into Liang Zheng’s nose, breaking it instantly.

Using Liang Zheng’s shoulder as leverage, she leaped into the air, her sword flashing, leaving two more guards with bleeding necks, eliminating two more enemies.

Cheng Xuan seized the opportunity and attacked as Chi Lin landed, her stance unstable. She saw his sword coming towards her back.

She braced herself for the impact, ready for a counterattack, but Lou Mi, picking up the weapon Chi Lin had disarmed earlier, blocked Cheng Xuan’s attack.

Chi Lin immediately reacted, kicking Cheng Xuan in the stomach.

His armor absorbed some of the impact, but he still winced in pain. He made a split-second decision, trying to grab Lou Mi as a hostage, to threaten Chi Lin.

Chi Lin’s ferocity came from her battlefield experience, while the Emperor, always within the palace walls, only gave commands. Even if she had some martial arts training, her combat experience was lacking. Capturing her should be easy.

Cheng Xuan lunged towards Lou Mi.

Lou Mi seemed to have anticipated this. If she were Cheng Xuan, she would do the same.

Cheng Xuan glared at her, trying to intimidate her.

A panicked prey was easier to capture.

But Lou Mi wasn’t scared at all. She met his gaze, unflinching.

    How could she be intimidated?

She had faced dungeon bosses a hundred times uglier and five hundred times larger than Cheng Xuan without flinching, let alone a human!

Years of holographic gaming, especially the intense professional matches, had given her ample combat experience.

Although she hadn’t fought for her life in the real world, now, back in her Emperor’s body, her memories returning, her confidence soaring, combined with her gaming skills, Lou Mi attacked Cheng Xuan head-on.

Cheng Xuan, surprised by her aggression, raised his arm to block.

It was a feint. As she disrupted his balance, Lou Mi attacked from the side, her blade slicing upwards, aiming for his chin.

    Cheng Xuan, startled, quickly dodged.

The blade missed his head but sliced off his ear.

He cried out in pain, clutching his bleeding ear, and stumbled back.

Everyone was stunned. Who would have thought the Emperor was so agile, taking down an opponent before Chi Lin could even react?

Chi Lin smiled inwardly. HighTowerMiyuki never missed first blood, living up to her reputation.

Losing an ear enraged Cheng Xuan, and, forgetting all decorum, he attacked with renewed ferocity.

Lou Mi and Chi Lin fought together, their coordination as seamless as in the game.

They parried every attack, and Chi Lin found opportunities to inflict several wounds on Cheng Xuan.

Liang Zheng, his face covered in blood, shouted to the Imperial Guards, “Kill the traitor! A reward of ten thousand taels of silver!”

He then joined the fight, and the remaining guards attacked simultaneously!

Despite their skill, outnumbered and cornered, Lou Mi and Chi Lin were forced to retreat.

Cheng Xuan saw his chance and swung his sword at Lou Mi. Chi Lin quickly blocked the attack, the blade slicing her arm, spraying blood on Cheng Xuan and Liang Zheng’s faces.

“Little Lin!” Lou Mi cried out, her heart aching, but Chi Lin, seemingly oblivious to the pain, pulled Lou Mi behind her.

Cheng Xuan and Liang Zheng pressed their advantage, forcing Lou Mi and Chi Lin to the edge of the cliff.

“Your Majesty,” Cheng Xuan sneered, licking the blood from his lips, “stop struggling. Come to my side, and I promise you won’t be harmed.”

Liang Zheng wiped the blood from his face, and the other guards formed a semi-circle, blocking all escape routes.

Liang Zheng laughed: “Nowhere left to run!”

Actually, there was one place they could go.

The guiding star and the moon were still aligned. Through a body of water, they could travel through time.

And there was no larger body of water than the sea below.

But the jagged rocks and the sheer drop made it a desperate gamble.

    They had no other choice.

Chi Lin looked back at Lou Mi: “Do you trust me, Your Majesty?”

Lou Mi answered immediately, “Yes, of course!”

“Are you afraid to die here with me?”

Lou Mi’s heart surged, and, holding Chi Lin’s hand, she spoke the words echoing in her mind:

“To the Yellow Springs or the Azure Sky, we shall never be parted.”

Chi Lin gazed at her, her eyes reddening, then she smiled.

“Okay.” She embraced Lou Mi and turned to face the sea. “Never be parted!”

Cheng Xuan’s heart sank. They were going to jump!

They leaped without hesitation. Cheng Xuan lunged forward and grabbed Chi Lin’s ankle.

Chi Lin kicked him in the face, sending him sprawling.

Cheng Xuan lost his balance and fell, screaming.

Fortunately, Liang Zheng grabbed his arm.

“Right Commander…” Liang Zheng felt Cheng Xuan’s weight pulling him down. Cheng Xuan, his face pale, clung to Liang Zheng’s arm desperately.

Liang Zheng was being pulled closer to the edge, unable to pull Cheng Xuan up.

The other guards grabbed Liang Zheng’s collar, but it was too late.

The collar ripped, and both Liang Zheng and Cheng Xuan plunged into the dark sea…

Chi Lin held Lou Mi as they fell, quickly smearing her blood on Lou Mi’s lips.

“Take a deep breath!” Chi Lin shouted. Lou Mi inhaled sharply. With a loud splash, they hit the water.

The icy water stung Chi Lin’s skin. She shielded Lou Mi from the impact, her back slamming against the sharp, jagged rocks, the pain making her vision darken. She coughed up blood.

The impact knocked Lou Mi unconscious momentarily, but then the water seemed to dissipate, and she could breathe again.

Her consciousness returned, and she found herself back in the abyss.

It was quiet. She was still in the Empress’s body, and Chi Lin’s soul, also not returned to its modern body, was floating about two meters away.

Lou Mi swam towards Chi Lin, who was frowning, her eyes closed, blood seeping from her mouth and dissolving into the darkness.

Lou Mi called her name, but there was no sound.

She didn’t dare to shake Chi Lin, knowing she must have been injured protecting her, any movement would only worsen her condition.

Seeing Chi Lin coughing up blood, Lou Mi’s tears flowed freely. She embraced Chi Lin tightly.

As if sensing her distress, Chi Lin opened her eyes.

She tried to smile, but the effort was too much.

This injury was worse than the car accident, she must have hit the rocks.

Last time, Chi Lin had also been injured, and Lou Mi, despite being the one protected, had spent days in the hospital, while Chi Lin, after switching bodies, had been perfectly fine!

Would they be alright if they returned to their original bodies?

Lou Mi immediately pulled Chi Lin downwards.

Their original bodies were healthy, if their souls returned, Chi Lin would be fine!

    It had to work!

Lou Mi was convinced her logic was flawless!

Chi Lin, weak and unable to speak, leaned against Lou Mi, offering no reassurance, making Lou Mi even more anxious.

    Where were their bodies?!

Just as Lou Mi was panicking, Chi Lin’s fingers, gripping her hand, tightened slightly.

A small gesture of reassurance—I’m still alive.

Even this small gesture calmed Lou Mi’s frantic heart, and she swam downwards faster.

    She found their bodies.

As they descended, their souls naturally separated from their current bodies.

The abyss seemed to have an invisible boundary, and crossing it triggered the separation.

Lou Mi guided Chi Lin back to her body. After a moment of adjustment, Lou Mi regained control.

Chi Lin also opened her eyes.

    Thank goodness!

Just as a smile appeared on Lou Mi’s face, Chi Lin closed her eyes again, her brow furrowed, one hand pressed against her lower back.

    The pain was still there.

Chi Lin’s mind was clearer now, but the pain was more intense, making her break out in a cold sweat.

    Why…?

Was it because this was her real body, the connection stronger, making the pain more acute?

There was no time to think. Floating like this was unbearable. Chi Lin gestured downwards, urging them to return.

Lou Mi understood and helped her swim down.

They broke through the surface with a splash. Lou Mi supported Chi Lin as they climbed out of the bathtub.

Chi Lin, clinging to the edge of the tub, ignoring the searing pain in her back, pulled herself out and collapsed onto the floor, gasping for air.

Lou Mi, choking on a mouthful of water, coughed violently, then rushed to Chi Lin’s side.

“Little… cough, cough… Little Lin, are you alright?”

Chi Lin was drenched, her brow still furrowed.

Lou Mi grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her: “Can you get up? The bathroom floor is too cold, you can’t lie here!”

Chi Lin suddenly remembered something, opened her eyes, and reached behind her weakly: “The letters…”

    “What letters?”

Chi Lin’s hand grasped at nothing.

Lou Mi suddenly remembered the purpose of their journey.

Although she hadn’t seen Dayuan or Shangjing with her own eyes, Chi Lin had been carrying a package and a sword when they met in the secret passage.

The situation had been too urgent, and Lou Mi hadn’t had time to ask what she had brought.

Seeing Chi Lin’s injuries, Lou Mi had been too frantic to think about anything else.

Chi Lin, unable to sit up, weakly grasped Lou Mi’s pinky finger:

    “The letters, Your Majesty…”

Lou Mi reassured her, “Don’t worry, wait for me, I’ll go back and get them.”

Lou Mi swallowed Chi Lin’s blood and tried to enter the bathtub again. It worked.

She dived into the abyss, swam towards the light, and saw Chi Lin, still carrying the package.

She entered the Empress’s body, untied the package, and dropped it.

Fortunately, the abyss was vertically aligned. The inanimate package slowly descended, and Lou Mi, returning to her own body, retrieved it and swam back.

The abyss was usually calm, but as Lou Mi saw the bathroom lights, she felt a strange ripple.

    She looked back cautiously.

The abyss was dark and empty.

    Was she being paranoid?

Lou Mi stopped and observed her surroundings carefully. Seeing nothing unusual, she continued swimming.

Her headache had subsided significantly, and she only just remembered it.

Strange, she thought, she seemed to have forgotten something.

    What was it…?

This feeling of forgetting something important was unsettling and familiar.

    What had she forgotten?

As she tried to remember, her headache returned.

She pushed the thought aside and climbed out of the bathtub, exhausted.

    But she couldn’t rest yet.

“I brought them back for you…” Lou Mi held up the dripping wet package.

Chi Lin, now sitting up against the wall, smiled weakly.

“Sister…” Her voice was faint. “Help me, open it.”

Lou Mi, remembering Chi Lin’s true form, that beautiful older sister, blushed at being called “sister.”

“Let me help you inside first,” Lou Mi said.

Chi Lin shook her head, insisting on opening the package first.

    Lou Mi relented.

She unwrapped the package. Inside were a stack of waterlogged letters, a hairpin, a jade pendant, a round metal sachet, and a few other small items.

“Oh…” Lou Mi picked up the letters, and water dripped from them.

Chi Lin reached out eagerly, and Lou Mi handed them to her.

Chi Lin carefully opened the letters. Some were stuck together, others were completely soaked and disintegrating.

The ink had bled, blurring the words.

Her Majesty’s thoughts, inspirations, and affections, written word by word, were gone.

  • Can We Get Married First?  93

    Chapter 93

Chi Lin guided Lou Mi towards the light, her grip on Lou Mi’s wrist tightening slightly. She glanced back, a slight frown on her forehead, as if asking if Lou Mi was ready.

Lou Mi pulled herself together, trying not to be distracted by Chi Lin’s breathtaking beauty.

They were about to enter a dangerous era; she couldn’t afford to lose focus.

Lou Mi nodded seriously, showing her resolve.

Chi Lin, worried that her tension might hinder their progress, gently caressed her face, her smile reassuring.

Lou Mi realized for the first time that souls could touch each other.

And that souls could blush and feel their hearts race.

If this gentle touch had happened before, Lou Mi would have simply seen it as Chi Lin’s mature and caring nature, a thoughtful little sister.

But now, seeing the real, older Chi Lin before her, Lou Mi felt like Tiger, wanting to wag her tail.

Big sister was so beautiful, so gentle, and so capable…

The closer they got to the light, the brighter it became.

Still holding hands, they swam forward and suddenly saw a figure floating in mid-air.

Lou Mi instinctively gripped Chi Lin’s hand tighter.

Chi Lin didn’t stop, guiding her closer.

As they approached, they realized it was a real human body, floating with its eyes closed, identical to Chi Lin’s soul.

    It was Chi Lin’s body!

    Chi Lin understood.

When she had jumped into the Kunling Lake in the Imperial Garden and traveled through the abyss to the modern era, her mind had been preoccupied with Her Majesty’s death and the daunting task ahead, she hadn’t realized her soul had left her body.

She had traveled through the abyss as a soul and entered the original Chi Lin’s body.

Now, returning, her soul would naturally separate again.

The abyss’s power was to separate soul from body.

Chi Lin’s soul entered her body, and she opened her eyes, regaining control.

She looked at her hands, clenched her fists, and reached out to embrace Lou Mi.

    But she couldn’t touch her.

They looked at each other, both stunned.

They both realized the same problem.

Lou Mi didn’t have a body in this era…

Just like Chi Lin’s first journey to the modern world, entering the original Chi Lin’s body, although there was a connection, it was uncontrollable.

Where Lou Mi’s soul would end up in Dayuan, in which body she would awaken, was completely unpredictable.

After a moment of silence, Lou Mi, regaining her composure, pointed towards the light above, signaling for them to go up first.

Chi Lin shook her head, anxious.

Dayuan, and even Shangjing, was a vast and complex city. If Lou Mi ended up somewhere random, without a phone or any modern communication device, how would they find each other?

If they got separated, where would Chi Lin even begin to look for her?

But Lou Mi was determined not to let Chi Lin send her back.

She seemed to have a plan and started swimming upwards.

Chi Lin followed, desperately trying to reach her, but her hand passed right through Lou Mi’s.

Just as Lou Mi was about to reach the light and enter Dayuan, she looked back at Chi Lin and mouthed two words.

    Chi Lin read her lips:

    Her Majesty.

    Chi Lin understood instantly.

Lou Mi looked at Chi Lin one last time, then swam upwards, towards Dayuan, without hesitation.

This was her chance to prove she was the Empress, Chi Lin’s beloved.

Chi Lin hadn’t entered a random body in the modern era, but a body with the same birthmark and moles under the eyes as her own.

Following this logic, if Lou Mi truly was the Empress’s reincarnation, there must be a connection between her and the Empress’s body.

Where would her soul go upon returning to Dayuan?

Back to the Empress’s body, of course!

The closer Lou Mi got to the light, the faster her heart beat.

She hadn’t considered the possibility of not being the Empress.

She definitely was, she had to be.

She was Chi Lin’s destined one.

As Chi Lin followed Lou Mi, countless possibilities and solutions raced through her mind.

    She understood Lou Mi’s thoughts.

This was a dangerous gamble, incredibly risky for Chi Lin, and even more so for Lou Mi.

Chi Lin wanted to stop her, but she couldn’t touch her.

Watching Lou Mi’s retreating figure, she felt the same familiar flutter in her heart as when she had gazed at Her Majesty countless times.

Chi Lin had believed Lou Mi was the Empress many times, but never as strongly as now.

Lou Mi and the Empress’s images overlapped perfectly in her mind, becoming one.

Chi Lin followed, desperate to protect her Majesty, to be by her wife’s side!

The light exploded before Chi Lin’s eyes, blinding her momentarily. She felt herself being pulled upwards, defying gravity.

After ascending for a long time, she suddenly felt water rushing into her lungs.

Her body began to sink in a familiar way. Chi Lin opened her eyes and found herself in a lake, the surface shimmering with light. She looked around, but there was no sign of Lou Mi.

She held her breath and swam upwards.

This was Kunling Lake, she was certain, even in the dark. This was where she and Her Majesty had sailed countless times.

When she had risked her life to return to the capital, most of the people had already fled, only a few loyal officials remained.

News of Her Majesty’s death hadn’t been released, and her body was hidden in a secret passage outside the capital, suggesting suspicion of a traitor within the palace, perhaps even someone close.

This time, Chi Lin had to be extremely cautious, she couldn’t be discovered.

She observed her surroundings underwater for a long time, making sure no one was around before quietly coming ashore.

This part of the Imperial Garden was newly built by Her Majesty and still partially unfinished. Few people came here, except for Her Majesty.

As soon as she landed, Chi Lin saw a pile of smoldering ashes where the Imperial Preceptor had stood.

Her heart sank, and she rushed over.

    “Imperial Preceptor?!”

Even though the body was unrecognizable, she could tell from the clothing.

The Imperial Preceptor had known he would suffer the consequences of opening the time portal, but he had done it without hesitation.

Chi Lin bowed her head, tears streaming down her face.

Dayuan still had such loyal subjects…

Composing herself, Chi Lin noticed that the Imperial Preceptor’s body was still smoldering, meaning he hadn’t been dead for long.

Chi Lin had experienced three astral convergences in the other dimension, nine months had passed there, but here, it was only a fleeting moment.

The Imperial Preceptor’s words were true; no matter how much time passed in the other dimension, she would return to the moment she left.

Chi Lin had no time to bury him. She had to change clothes and find Lou Mi.

The dim lights along the Imperial Garden’s corridors, originally Her Majesty’s preference, now provided cover for Chi Lin.

She knew the Imperial Garden like the back of her hand and quickly found her former quarters, following the corridors.

Her Majesty, to protect Chi Lin’s family, had sent them away from Shangjing before the rebellion, all for Chi Lin’s sake. She had also ensured Chi Lin’s quarters were well-maintained.

There were no guards, and the rooms were dark, exactly what she needed.

Chi Lin quickly entered, found a small candle, lit it, and quietly searched the closet.

She remembered last autumn, when Her Majesty, on a whim, had insisted on sneaking out of the palace to visit the marketplace with her. Chi Lin had tried to dissuade her, but Her Majesty’s persistence and charm had won. Chi Lin had found a set of guard’s uniform for her, helping her disguise herself.

She had casually tossed the uniform into the closet afterwards, never imagining it would come in handy now.

Chi Lin found the uniform and took out a box of rouge from a drawer, darkening her complexion and adding some contours to her face. Her reflection in the bronze mirror looked more masculine, a more convincing disguise.

Ready, she left, heading towards the secret passage.

She hoped Lou Mi was there!

    ***

Lou Mi felt a heavy pressure, unable to open her eyes.

Her mouth and nose seemed blocked, making it difficult to breathe.

    She struggled, her mind hazy.

    Where was she…?

She tried to focus, to grasp onto something.

    “Mmm, cough, cough, cough!”

Lou Mi suddenly sat up, coughing out a small, glowing orb.

The orb rolled on the ground, then stopped glowing.

She coughed violently, then, finally catching her breath, looked around.

She was in a spacious cave.

There was no natural light, the only illumination came from torches on the cave walls.

The torches were dripping oil, seemingly lit recently.

Where was she? Lou Mi looked around, but there was no sign of Chi Lin.

    She was alone.

    Alone…

At this thought, she looked at her hands. They were solid, real. She was no longer in her soul form.

She touched her face. It was warm!

Not very warm, but it was a human body!

    Whose body had she entered?!

This was a first for Lou Mi. She was both excited and bewildered, eager to see her current appearance, but she couldn’t find a mirror.

Her hand accidentally touched the surface she was sitting on, and a wave of icy coldness made her gasp.

She realized she had been lying on a rectangular stone slab that radiated cold, surrounded by small pouches filled with herbs.

There were even pouches on her body.

It looked like an open coffin.

Had they used an ice coffin to preserve her body?

    It was very likely.

Unlike Chi Lin, who had been disoriented when she arrived in the modern era, Lou Mi, a modern person, was familiar with ancient elements from movies, TV shows, novels, and meticulously researched video games. She wasn’t panicking.

She got off the ice slab and noticed she was wearing a black robe with gold trim, seemingly simple, but the satin material felt luxurious and comfortable. Looking closer, she saw embroidered dragons, a symbol of imperial authority.

Who could wear dragons in ancient times?

    Only the Empress.

Lou Mi straightened her back, wanting to laugh triumphantly.

    See! She was the Empress!

Wait, this wasn’t the time to celebrate.

Chi Lin wasn’t here, how would they reunite?

Lou Mi thought about it. The death of an emperor was a serious matter in any dynasty.

If news of the emperor’s death during a foreign invasion were to spread, the nation would be doomed.

Chi Lin wanting to restore her nation by triggering her past life memories meant there was still hope. Judging by the secrecy of this cave, the news of the emperor’s death was likely being kept hidden.

So, this cave should be safe, hidden from ordinary people.

Chi Lin would definitely know how to find her here. She shouldn’t wander off, the best course of action was to stay put and wait for Chi Lin.

She could use this time to try and regain her memories.

Lou Mi paced back and forth in the cave, but nothing came to mind.

    What was going on…?

She was starting to get anxious.

When Chi Lin switched back with that other person, she had retained some of their memories. Why couldn’t she remember anything after returning to the Empress’s body?

    This wasn’t right!

Chi Lin was heading towards the secret passage when her path was blocked.

Hundreds of imperial guards had surrounded the exit to the Imperial Garden.

Chi Lin hid behind a waterfall and listened carefully to their conversation.

The guards had surrounded a young maid, asking if she had seen any trace of the criminal Chi.

“Are, are you talking about the former Empress? Wasn’t her entire clan exiled? Why are you looking for her here…”

The maid, around 15 or 16 years old, had served in the palace since childhood and had never seen so many rough-looking men. Being suddenly interrogated, she was trembling with fear.

The Imperial Guards were the emperor’s personal guard; it was normal for them to be in the palace, but they were actually searching for her. Chi Lin was worried—had she been discovered?

The guards brushed the maid aside without waiting for her to finish and, with a single command, split into three groups to search the Imperial Garden!

In the torchlight, Chi Lin recognized the leader.

It was Cheng Xuan, the Right Commander of the Imperial Guards. Standing beside him was Liang Zheng, a lieutenant. Both of them had been arrested for colluding with rebels before Chi Lin’s exile. Why were they here?

    Had someone released them…?

Chi Lin knew Cheng Xuan and Liang Zheng were ruthless and dangerous. Alone and outnumbered, she couldn’t risk a direct confrontation.

Fortunately, there was a secret passage in the Imperial Garden.

Every imperial palace had secret passages, not just for escape.

Chi Lin exited through the secret passage and found the entire capital swarming with Imperial Guards.

But many of them were unfamiliar faces.

They moved like shadows in the night, clearly searching for someone.

Chi Lin knew her return had been discovered; she was the target.

She decided not to go directly to the secret passage where Lou Mi was.

Its location was highly classified. Even though the Imperial Preceptor had taken her there once, unless someone knew exactly where to look, it was impossible to find.

If Lou Mi had returned to the Empress’s body, with her intelligence, she wouldn’t wander around.

Staying put was safer than being outside.

Chi Lin decided to return to their private residence, retrieve their letters, and leave.

After reuniting with Lou Mi, she would assess the situation. If there weren’t many guards around, she might be able to take Lou Mi out to see Shangjing.

The thought of Lou Mi possibly returning to the Empress’s body, of Her Majesty being alive, made Chi Lin’s heart pound.

    It was very likely.

After all, when she entered the original Chi Lin’s body, the original Chi Lin was already dead. She had practically taken over a corpse.

Perhaps she was about to see Her Majesty again…

Chi Lin forced herself to calm down. The Imperial Guards everywhere were actually an advantage. Her disguise would allow her to blend in, especially under the cover of darkness.

She quickly left the palace and reached the main avenue.

The streets were empty due to the curfew. Chi Lin hurried towards their private residence.

She knew the streets of Shangjing like the back of her hand. Reaching their residence, she climbed over the wall and into the courtyard, listening carefully, making sure no one was around.

She entered the bedroom and found the letters, using a small candle for light.

The room was unchanged, every detail carefully designed by her and Her Majesty, filled with precious memories.

    Emotions surged within Chi Lin.

She wiped away her tears and carefully wrapped the letters and some of Her Majesty’s belongings, securing the package to her back.

A sword hung on the wall, a sword she had carried for over ten years, the first sword she received after she began her martial arts training.

Her Majesty had kept everything related to her…

Chi Lin took the sword and quietly left.

The secret passage was located in the mountains north of Shangjing, where the royal family held their ancestral rites. The mountains stretched towards the sea, where a high wall had been built. The passage was hidden there.

Its remote location made it almost impossible to discover.

And even if it was discovered, it was difficult to access, with cliffs on one side and a treacherous sea filled with reefs on the other.

When she and the Imperial Preceptor had visited, they had relied on his Qinggong skills to enter.

Chi Lin had an excellent memory; she could remember any path she had taken once.

Her own Qinggong skills were exceptional, further honed by her experience navigating the challenging terrain of Snowy Peak in the game.

She flew into the cave. A voice from the darkness called out, “Who’s there?”

At the sound, Chi Lin froze, her gaze fixed on the depths of the passage, her breathing quickening.

“Chi Lin.” It was Her Majesty’s voice. “Is that you?”

“Your Majes…” Chi Lin stumbled forward and knelt on one knee.

A figure emerged from the darkness, approaching her. Chi Lin quickly stood up and walked towards it.

    It was Her Majesty.

She was standing right before her, it wasn’t a dream.

This robe was something Chi Lin had pestered the Ministry of Rites to allow her to make for Her Majesty.

The person wearing this robe was the one she longed for day and night, the one who appeared in her dreams countless times.

“Chi Lin.” Her Majesty walked towards her. The torchlight flickered behind her, all other sounds fading away, leaving only the pounding of Chi Lin’s heart.

It wasn’t a cold corpse, but a living, breathing person.

Someone who could speak, walk, and look at her.

“I…” Lou Mi was about to speak when Chi Lin suddenly embraced her, holding her so tightly that her entire body trembled.

“Your Majesty.” Tears streamed down Chi Lin’s face, unnoticed.

She couldn’t say anything more, her voice choked with emotion.

Chi Lin buried her face in Lou Mi’s embrace and wept silently.

    “I missed you so much…”

These words almost broke Lou Mi’s heart.

She was moved by Chi Lin’s emotions, by this person who usually kept her feelings so tightly guarded, now pouring out her heart.

At this moment, Lou Mi even thought she was willing to play the role of the Empress.

As long as Chi Lin was happy, she was willing to be anyone Chi Lin wanted her to be.

Tears welled up in Lou Mi’s eyes, a wave of sadness washing over her, bringing back a distant memory.

That clueless idiot, He something, from the Imperial Academy, pestering Chi Lin relentlessly, even grabbing her hand… Lou Mi seemed to have felt this same ache in her heart.

A sharp pain shot through her head, and she gasped.

Chi Lin, her eyes filled with tears, looked up at her.

    Lou Mi froze.

The Imperial Academy, He something… why did she know these things?

    “Your Majesty?”

Lou Mi’s temples throbbed. She looked at Chi Lin in her arms, who was also looking at her.

When was the last time she saw Chi Lin cry?

She remembered. They were at the Southern Palace, inseparable. She had been throwing a tantrum, wanting Chi Lin’s attention and affection. Chi Lin, as always, had been patient and gentle.

But her tantrum had been too much, and despite Chi Lin’s efforts to soothe her, she hadn’t calmed down, eventually making Chi Lin cry.

“Your Majesty, I was wrong. Jin Yi, please forgive me.” Chi Lin had cried, clutching her sleeve, her voice filled with anxiety.

Those tears were different from the tears now, but the person in her arms still cared for her deeply.

“Little Lin.” Lou Mi wiped away her tears, her gaze softening as she caressed the moles under Chi Lin’s eyes.

Chi Lin’s grip on her sleeve tightened.

“I remember.” Lou Mi said. “Our time at the Imperial Academy, our Taihua Palace, the northern border, the southern palace… everything, I never truly forgot.”

Lou Mi’s touch, her tone of voice, was completely Her Majesty’s.

But the name “Little Lin” belonged to Lou Mi.

Her Majesty only called her Lin Jie, or “my dear,” or General Chi in public.

At this moment, Lou Mi and the Empress merged seamlessly, and Chi Lin couldn’t tear her eyes away.

“You remember everything?!” Chi Lin asked eagerly.

Just as Lou Mi was trying to sort through the flood of memories, another wave of pain shot through her head, making her wince and clutch her head.

“Your Majesty! Sister! What’s wrong?!” Chi Lin cried out, her words confused.

Lou Mi gritted her teeth, but as she tried to grasp onto the fading memories, they slipped away.

For a moment, her mind was blank, she couldn’t even think.

“I’m fine, just, a little overwhelmed.” Lou Mi wanted to sit down, but suddenly, they heard faint footsteps from the cave entrance.

The enclosed space amplified every sound. Lou Mi hadn’t noticed, but Chi Lin had.

Chi Lin was startled. Who could it be?

The footsteps grew louder, steady and strong, like those of a martial artist.

And there was more than one person!

    Had she been followed?

Having spent too long in the modern era and eager to see Lou Mi, Chi Lin had let her guard down, she hadn’t noticed anyone following her to the secret passage!

    “Go!”

The newcomers were approaching from the mountainside. Chi Lin pulled Lou Mi towards the other end of the passage.

“What…” Every word Lou Mi spoke brought a wave of pain and confused memories, one moment she was playing a game, the next she was hunting with a bow and arrow.

There was no time to explain. The footsteps were getting closer. Chi Lin urged Lou Mi to hurry.

“Don’t let her escape! After her!”

    “Capture her alive!”

It was Cheng Xuan and Liang Zheng’s voices!

Chi Lin pushed Lou Mi forward, urging her to run, as the Imperial Guards stormed into the passage.
