    Chapter 114 p3

The Soul-Chasing Secret Art relied heavily on the Pearl; its damage had unknown consequences.

Could they still travel through time?

Surrounded by enemies, with no other escape route, Chi Lin kissed Lou Mi, a deep, desperate kiss. Lou Mi understood.

“No!” Lou Mi held on tight. “We promised, never to be parted!”

“I’ll protect Your Majesty until my soul dissipates.” Chi Lin smiled. “I kept my promise.”

Chi Lin pushed Lou Mi into the pond. Lou Mi felt an irresistible force pulling her downwards.

She struggled, but it was useless.

The sounds of battle faded as she sank deeper.

She woke up back in her own time. Perhaps the damaged Pearl had destabilized the abyss, pulling her back like a magnet.

Just before returning, she managed to grab her modern body, switching back.

But without Chi Lin’s blood, she couldn’t open the abyss.

She waited for Chi Lin all night, then the next day, and the next, but she didn’t return.

“You’re saying Little Lin can’t come back?” Lou Lixing was in disbelief.

“Shhh,” Peng Ziyuan pulled him aside. “Don’t let Mi Mi hear you. I asked her, but she wouldn’t say anything, it’s just my guess. Little Lin was so attached to her, they went together, only Mi Mi returned, so I think…”

    Lou Lixing’s face was grim.

“We have to prepare for the worst.”

They thought Lou Mi would be devastated, but four days later, she returned to work, spending her days at the club, returning home late, checking every corner of the apartment, hoping to find Chi Lin.

A month passed, then two. In the third month, news broke of a new archaeological discovery related to Dayuan, extending its reign by 110 years.

Lou Mi, seeing the news, knew it was the result of their efforts.

Even if nothing lasted forever, they had to fight for the best outcome while they were still alive.

Lou Mi went out and bought a ring.

Xie Buyu and Fu Tu, visiting her at the club, saw her cheerful demeanor and were immediately suspicious.

“Sister Mi, where are you going?” Xie Buyu asked, sensing trouble.

“To buy a ring,” Lou Mi said, smiling.

    “A ring? For whom?”

    “Little Lin. We’re getting married.”

They were stunned into silence. Everyone knew Chi Lin had been gone for three months.

Lou Mi had been burying herself in work, but she clearly wasn’t happy.

Now, suddenly announcing her marriage… They couldn’t bear to think about it.

Lou Mi got in her car, and they followed: “Don’t do anything stupid!”

Fu Tu: “Can we even stop her if she tries something?”

    “We can’t take her in a 2v1?”

    “Remember her strength?”

Xie Buyu: “…We can knock her out, right? Quietly.”

Fu Tu: “HighTowerMiyuki never misses first blood. We’ll be the ones getting knocked out.”

Lou Mi, however, wasn’t suicidal. She bought a ring.

At the same jewelry store where Peng Ziyuan had bought their matching rings.

She knew Chi Lin’s ring size.

On her way home, she sent them a message:

“Stop following me, I’m fine. Go and be lovey-dovey. Save the date.”

    “Huh?”

    “For my wedding.”

Xie Buyu and Fu Tu exchanged glances.

“We should still follow her home.”

    “Yes… just to be safe.”

Lou Mi went home. They waited outside for half an hour, then left.

Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan were home. They were surprised by Lou Mi’s cheerful demeanor.

    They watched her silently.

She hummed as she checked the fridge, making sure there was fish.

Steamed fish for Little Lin when she returned.

    And whiskey, her favorite.

Beef and vegetables too. And all the love letters she had written.

The previous ones had been ruined, she would make it up to her, double.

And flowers, how could she propose without flowers?

She ordered a large bouquet of hibiscuses and placed them by the bathtub.

She locked Chi Lin’s bedroom door; no interruptions.

She sat by the bathtub, waiting.

As soon as Little Lin returned, she would propose.

Then, fish, whiskey, and their wedding night.

This time, she wouldn’t wait, she wouldn’t forget.

Lou Mi waited, even though it seemed foolish.

She waited until midnight, then until dawn, but Chi Lin didn’t come.

She was numb with cold, still waiting.

    Little Lin was late.

Lou Mi kicked the bathtub: “You abandoned me, and now you’re late for our wedding, how could you do this to me?”

    The kick hurt her toe.

    Sigh.

Lou Mi lay in the bathroom, watching the sunrise.

Was Little Lin punishing her for forgetting, for making her wait so long?

If she was angry, she should come and yell at her.

She had done it before, although it wasn’t very intimidating.

Lou Mi laughed, then started crying.

Little brat, did you really leave me?

You found me across lifetimes, in a world of billions, and now you’re not coming back?

Lou Mi cried herself to sleep. When she woke up, she was in Chi Lin’s bed, the blanket neatly tucked around her.

She sat up abruptly and rushed out, seeing a half-empty bottle of whiskey and a plate of finished steamed fish on the dining table.

    Hibiscus petals were scattered everywhere.

She saw a figure practicing swordsmanship in the courtyard and, her heart pounding, walked towards it.

    The figure’s back was unfamiliar.

Hearing her approach, the figure stopped and turned around.

A delicate oval face, deep-set eyes, a beautiful and refined appearance with a touch of ancient elegance, and the distinctive red moles under her eyes.

It was… Chi Lin, in her true form.

    Lou Mi was speechless.

“Your Majesty is awake?” Chi Lin smiled and stepped forward, but Lou Mi instinctively took a step back.

    “Your Majesty?”

Lou Mi rubbed her eyes, but Chi Lin was still there.

    “How…”

Although Lou Mi had regained her past life memories, her present life memories were still dominant, the image of the high school student Chi Lin more familiar.

Seeing the Chi Lin from her past life before her, Lou Mi thought she was dreaming.

Chi Lin said: “The rebels have been defeated, Shangjing is safe. I followed Your Majesty’s instructions and passed the throne to the eldest princess. I should have returned last night, but the Blood Essence Pearl was damaged, and I couldn’t enter the abyss. I knew you were waiting, so I tried infusing it with more blood, and it seemed to stabilize, so I rushed back. But the abyss’s balance was still disrupted, I saw my original body, and yours, but I didn’t have time to switch, so I appeared here in this body. It seems I’ll have to wait three months to return to the abyss and switch back… Your Majesty? Your Majesty?”

Chi Lin had explained everything, but Lou Mi’s gaze was still unfocused.

“Did you carry me to bed last night?”

Chi Lin nodded, her eyes filled with longing, and took Lou Mi’s hand:

“I’m sorry for making you wait three months. I’m back, safe and sound. From now on, we’ll live in this era together.”

Lou Mi’s heart, which had been frozen, slowly thawed under Chi Lin’s warm smile.

Tears welled up in her eyes, but a sense of resentment lingered.

“What about you pushing me away at the last moment?” Lou Mi sighed and shook her head. “All those vows, completely worthless, you pushed me away without a second thought. I still remember our promise…”

She turned to go inside, but Chi Lin quickly followed:

“Are you angry with me, Your Majesty? I’m sorry, I had no choice. Were you hurt when you fell into the pond? Did you miss me?” Chi Lin’s voice was filled with emotion.

“Of course I missed you, but what’s the point, you pushed me away.” Lou Mi continued walking, and Chi Lin hugged her tightly:

“Don’t go… What can I do to make you forgive me? Punish me however you want, just don’t ignore me…”

Chi Lin’s words tumbled out, her voice choked with emotion.

She had promised herself not to cry, but seeing Her Majesty’s anger, her own inability to express herself properly, made her frantic.

Tears streamed down her face, and then she saw a ring.

    Chi Lin: “?”

“Then marry me.” Lou Mi’s expression softened, and she suddenly tackled Chi Lin, knocking her to the ground.

“Careful!” Chi Lin, ever the skilled warrior, controlled their fall, ensuring they landed safely on the carpet.

“Your Majesty, that was reckless, are you hurt?”

“I’m fine with you here. This is a proposal ring.” Lou Mi said, looking at her earnestly. “In this era, we give rings when we propose. Our wedding in the past was rushed, I’m making it up to you now!”

Chi Lin was stunned: “You’re not angry anymore?”

“I was just teasing. You made me wait three months, can’t I be a little upset?”

Seeing the sunlight illuminate Lou Mi’s face, her smile brighter than any diamond, Chi Lin’s heart finally settled.

    “Will you marry me?”

    Chi Lin nodded vigorously.

“Come on!” Lou Mi excitedly took Chi Lin’s hand and tried to put the ring on her finger.

    It wouldn’t fit.

    Lou Mi: “?!”

Chi Lin, embarrassed: “…Sorry, Your Majesty, my knuckles are a bit thick from martial arts training.”

    Lou Mi hadn’t anticipated this!

“Just wait three months, I’ll switch back to my other body!”

“No! I can’t wait that long!” Lou Mi pulled her up. “We’re going out now, to get the ring resized, then we’re registering our marriage, right now!”

As they rushed out of the elevator, they ran into Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan.

“Mi Mi? Where are you going?”

“To get married!” Lou Mi pushed Chi Lin into the car and sped off.

Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan exchanged glances, their faces turning green.

    “Who is that woman?”

    “She’s beautiful…”

“Did Mi Mi find someone new?”

Peng Ziyuan yelled, “No way!” and jumped into her car, chasing after them.

She almost rear-ended Lou Mi at the community gate.

Midway there, Lou Mi remembered. Chi Lin, in her current body, had no ID, she couldn’t register their marriage.

Lou Mi wanted to bang her head against the window—they really had to wait three months!

Peng Ziyuan caught up and demanded an explanation. Lou Mi introduced Chi Lin:

    “Auntie, meet your new daughter.”

    Peng Ziyuan: “???”

    Winter, 2045.

“Did you bring your thermos? Your scarf? It’s cold outside. And your uniform… oh, you don’t need a uniform anymore.”

Lou Mi looked at the South Lake Third High uniform with a hint of regret; Chi Lin had looked so good in it.

Chi Lin, back in her original body, looked at Lou Mi:

“Your Majesty, you sound like you’re taking care of a child.”

Lou Mi hugged her and nuzzled her head: “My baby is all grown up and going to university… Mommy is so sad!”

    Chi Lin: “Your Majesty, I can’t breathe…”

    Lou Lixing, passing by, coughed.

Lou Mi: “Stop coughing, our new apartment near Little Lin’s university is almost ready, you won’t be blinded by our love for much longer.”

    “Really?!”

“Yes, Old Lou, you’ll be lonely soon…”

Lou Mi was about to comfort her father when he turned to Peng Ziyuan and shouted:

“Yuan Yuan! They’re moving out! When are we getting married? Freedom!”

Lou Mi: “…Are you my real dad? Did you get body-snatched too?!”

Chi Lin, after a year of retaking the exams, had been accepted into a top university’s history program. Today was her first day.

The university was in the city, and they had chosen an apartment nearby, just two kilometers away.

Since they were married, Chi Lin could apply for off-campus housing, which Lou Mi had insisted on from day one.

“How can you live on campus? You’ll make your wife die of loneliness!” Lou Mi draped herself over Chi Lin’s shoulders. “At least universities are still somewhat humane.”

As she dropped Chi Lin off at school, Lou Mi said:

“There are many attractive people at university, what will you do if someone hits on you?”

Chi Lin, knowing she was being playful, kissed her.

“Your Majesty, you already know I’ll only love you, in this life and every life to come.”

“I know,” Lou Mi kissed her back, “but I need to hear it every day.”

They kissed passionately in the car, almost losing control, until Chi Lin stopped them.

“See you tonight, Your Majesty.” Chi Lin said, reluctant to leave. “I’ll miss you…”

    “My sweet baby.”

Lou Mi kissed her forehead, applied lip balm, adjusted her scarf, and watched as she got out of the car.

“Dinner at Pengpai Plaza tonight, I’ll pick you up.”

    “No need, let’s meet there.”

“What if you can’t find me? It’s a big place.”

Chi Lin smiled: “Your Majesty, I can find you anywhere in the universe.”

    Chapter 114 p2

Chi Lin held Lou Mi’s shoulders, wanting to escape, yet unwilling to.

In that moment of intimacy, fragments of memories flooded Lou Mi’s mind, all of them featuring Chi Lin.

Her classmates returned; class was about to start. Chi Lin had to stop.

Lou Mi, wanting more, was reluctant to let her go.

“Your Majesty, can we, continue tonight?”

Lou Mi found her adorable: “Don’t say that, I won’t be able to let you go. Now go to class, I’ll pick you up later, call me when you’re done.”

    “Okay!”

“Be good, pay attention in class.” Lou Mi kissed her cheek.

    Chi Lin smiled: “I’ll try.”

They both logged out. Lou Mi sat there, dazed.

    What was that feeling?

    Like ascending to heaven.

Chi Lin removed her access crystal. Sha Xinyu, sitting down beside her, leaned closer:

    “Lin, are you okay?”

    Chi Lin, flustered: “What?”

“Your face is so red, do you have a fever?”

    “No, just… a bit stuffy.”

Chi Lin struggled to focus all afternoon. The sensations from the game lingered. She fidgeted, gripping her stylus.

    She missed Lou Mi.

She wanted to see her now.

Finally, the last exam ended. Chi Lin grabbed her bag and ran.

“I’m here,” Lou Mi replied quickly. “Waiting for you at our usual spot.”

    Their usual spot…

The convenience store outside the school.

Chi Lin’s heart raced. Did Her Majesty remember?

As soon as she got in the car, before even putting her bag down, Lou Mi hugged her.

“Sister?” Chi Lin stumbled into her arms.

“I think I remember something,” Lou Mi whispered in her ear.

“Really?” Chi Lin’s eyes widened. “When?!”

    “When we were together.”

    “…”

    “Help me remember more.”

From the car to the elevator, their clothes were discarded as soon as they entered the apartment.

“What if Uncle Lou and Auntie Peng come back…?” Chi Lin, slightly nervous by Lou Mi’s eagerness.

“Don’t worry, I told them they’re going on a trip, they won’t be back until the day after tomorrow.”

    “Sister…”

“Didn’t you like calling me Your Majesty? Call me that.”

    Lou Mi’s voice was husky.

Chi Lin’s voice trembled: “Your Majesty…”

    “Good girl.”

As their passion intensified, Lou Mi’s mind raced, memories flooding back: their first kiss, their first touch, the first time she cried for Chi Lin…

A long-forgotten door seemed to be opening, the longing, the desire in Chi Lin’s eyes so familiar.

“Lin Jie, if only this moment could last forever. We’ll stay here, and I’ll never let you be hurt again…”

“Minister Chi, it’s been a while.”

“I mean it when I say I like you! If you don’t feel the same, reject me now!”

    “Your Highness, stop fooling around…”

“What? Kissing you is fooling around? I can be much more ‘reckless’ than this.”

    “So you’re the princess…”

    “What’s your name?”

“This commoner’s name is Chi Lin, courtesy name Han Lie.”

“The Prime Minister’s daughter? The child prodigy? You’re even more adorable than I imagined.”

“To the Yellow Springs or the Azure Sky, we shall never be parted!”

    ***

“Little Lin!” Lou Mi suddenly stopped, staring at Chi Lin, her eyes unfocused.

Chi Lin, startled, “Your Majesty? What’s wrong?”

Lou Mi clutched her head, her face pale. Chi Lin hugged her:

“Should we go to the hospital? Let’s see Dr. Bai!”

“Wait… I just need to rest.”

Chi Lin, frantic, tears welling up:

“Let’s go to the hospital, don’t push yourself!”

Lou Mi, wrapping herself in the pajamas, sat on the sofa: “Can I have some more calming tea?”

    “Now?”

“Yes…” Lou Mi rubbed her temples.

    “I’ll get it right away!”

Chi Lin rushed to the kitchen, then, holding the tea, practically flew back to the bedroom.

As she entered, she saw Lou Mi looking at her intently.

Chi Lin’s heart pounded. She approached cautiously:

    “Your Majesty?”

    Lou Mi sighed.

    “What’s wrong?”

She extended her hand, and Chi Lin, understanding, handed her the tea.

Lou Mi took a sip: “Exactly the same.”

Chi Lin, sensing something, felt a surge of hope, yet couldn’t quite believe it.

Then Lou Mi called her “Lin Jie.”

“Lin Jie, you silly girl. You suffered so much searching for me.”

Chi Lin paused, something wasn’t quite right.

    Could it be…?

Lou Mi finished the tea and held out her hands. It was a familiar gesture, both from Lou Mi in this life and Jin Yi in the past.

    Her wife was calling her.

Chi Lin rushed into her arms, afraid to let go.

“Sister, Your Majesty, Lou Mi? Jin… Yi?”

Chi Lin called her every name, her uncertainty met by Lou Mi’s gentle smile.

“I’m your sister, your Majesty, your Lou Mi, your Jin Yi.” Lou Mi cupped her face. “These are just titles, I’m your wife, that’s all that matters.”

Chi Lin, still in disbelief, not realizing she was sitting on Lou Mi’s lap, gripped her arms:

    “You remember? Everything…?”

“Yes, everything,” Lou Mi nuzzled her. “Thanks to you. Lin Jie is still so clever.”

    “Your past life memories too…?”

“Yes, all of them.” Lou Mi tilted Chi Lin’s dazed head up. “I remembered everything when we were together.”

Chi Lin blushed: “Why would you remember because of that…?”

    “Wasn’t Lin Jie guiding me?”

Chi Lin wrapped her arms around her neck, her voice lowering: “I was, but it’s also because Your Majesty cares about that sort of thing.”

“It seems you truly know me, that you’re the one I can’t live without. You brought my memories back, you’re amazing, baby.”

Chi Lin, overwhelmed, hid her face in Lou Mi’s embrace.

Her Majesty’s words, both in the past and present, were too much for her.

They hadn’t expected the neural stimulants to trigger her past life memories!

    They laughed, surprised and delighted.

Now that Her Majesty remembered, they could focus on restoring Dayuan.

“Restore Dayuan? Sure, but let’s get married first.”

    “Your Majesty?!”

“I barely enjoyed our wedding before exiling your entire clan in our past life.”

Chi Lin’s face turned green. She knew Her Majesty loved their intimacy, but the nation’s fate was more important!

Chi Lin pleaded: “Your Majesty, our nation is in danger, please prioritize restoring Dayuan!”

Lou Mi, seeing her serious expression, laughed and patted her head.

    Chi Lin: “…”

“Just kidding, of course, Dayuan is our priority. As the Emperor, I’ll return and crush those rebels. Won’t they be surprised to see me alive?”

    Chi Lin: “……”

It seemed Lou Mi’s personality was still dominant, after all, she had only regained her memories, her soul was the same, but this life’s experiences had shaped her.

Lou Mi, seeing Chi Lin’s silence:

“What, do I not seem like an emperor?”

“No,” Chi Lin smiled. “Your Majesty is even more adorable now.”

Lou Mi pouted: “When am I not adorable?”

The one who orchestrated the Empress’s assassination was the Third Prince, her nephew, whom she had raised like her own son.

Afraid of his aunt’s favor towards his older sister, he had been manipulated and conspired with the rebels.

“I anticipated the rebellion, but not the traitor in my own family.” Lou Mi’s voice was filled with grief and anger. “If I had known sooner… But I did make preparations.”

“The ten thousand elite soldiers from Yubei?”

Lou Mi smiled: “More than that.”

These two words reassured Chi Lin instantly.

“Besides the troops from Yubei, there are fifteen thousand more soldiers stationed outside the capital, waiting for my command. And I have another ace up my sleeve.”

The Third Prince was a pawn for the rebels, and the Empress had her own pawn within the rebel ranks.

Her Majesty’s strategy was more complex than Chi Lin had anticipated.

She was glad she had come to find Her Majesty, glad she remembered.

Before, Chi Lin had been worried about how to restore Dayuan, but Her Majesty had everything under control.

Lou Mi: “Why are you looking at me like that?”

Chi Lin: “I’m just grateful to be able to serve Your Majesty.”

Lou Mi cupped her face: “I would be dead without you. I’m the lucky one, to have found you, in both lifetimes. I want to be with you in every lifetime, Little Lin.”

    Chi Lin nodded, tears falling:

“As long as my soul endures, I’ll always be by Your Majesty’s side.”

“Crying again. It used to be so hard to make you cry.” Lou Mi wiped away her tears, smiling.

Chi Lin also felt she had cried too much. Her Majesty was back, her suffering was over, these would be her last tears.

The next astral convergence was during the National Day holiday.

Lou Mi told their families they were going to Mars, they might be out of contact for a few days:

“Don’t worry, we’ll take care of ourselves.”

Lou Mi’s tone, when she said this to Lou Lixing, sounded more like a farewell than a vacation announcement.

Lou Lixing, oblivious, didn’t notice anything unusual, but Peng Ziyuan was worried.

She pulled Lou Mi and Chi Lin aside:

“What’s going on? Where are you going?”

Chi Lin told her the truth.

“Back to your time? Is it dangerous?”

“It is, but we have to take care of some things.”

“Will you come back?!” Peng Ziyuan asked anxiously.

Lou Mi looked at Chi Lin, who answered without hesitation: “Yes. Wherever Sister is, I’ll be there.”

As they prepared to enter the abyss, Lou Mi asked Chi Lin if she was scared.

“No,” Chi Lin said. “When I first arrived, I was scared, not knowing if I would find you, what this world would be like. But the thought of seeing you again gave me courage. Now you’re here, I have everything I ever wanted, there’s nothing to fear.”

Lou Mi smiled, took her hand, and they entered the abyss together.

The bodies Cheng Xuan and Liang Zheng had used were still there, but their wounds were gone.

    Could it be…?

They swam forward, their souls leaving their bodies, and found their past life bodies.

Chi Lin had expected to find another body in Dayuan, but it seemed the abyss had healing properties.

When Chi Lin’s soul returned to her body, she woke up quickly. The pain in her back lingered, but it wasn’t life-threatening.

    She could move freely.

Lou Mi took her hand, and they headed towards Dayuan, Chi Lin, her mind sharp, leading the way.

Two days into the National Day holiday, Chi Lin’s homeroom teacher called Peng Ziyuan, who made excuses for her absence.

“Why is Chi Lin sick for so long? The college entrance exams are coming up, she needs to take care of her health.” Ms. Qi said. “Is she resting at home? Maybe the class president and I can visit her.”

Peng Ziyuan: “No, no, she has a bad cold, it’s contagious.”

“Yes, the weather is changing, so many people are sick…” Ms. Qi sneezed, and Peng Ziyuan told her to rest.

After ending the call, Peng Ziyuan looked at the sky, worried.

Why weren’t Little Lin and Mi Mi back yet?

    “Lin isn’t here yet?”

    Wei Zhuoning, drinking milk, frowned.

Lin Xiaozhi shook her head: “She’s not replying to my messages either. Her mom said she and Sister Lou went to Mars.”

“Mars? Maybe they encountered an asteroid field and can’t return?”

Lin Xiaozhi, lost in thought: “Perhaps they went somewhere even farther than Mars.”

    Wei Zhuoning: “?”

Lou Lixing paced anxiously, unable to reach his daughter.

Peng Ziyuan tried to calm him down: “They said to wait patiently. Worrying won’t help.”

    “Should we call the police?”

Peng Ziyuan shook her head firmly.

“What are you doing? If something happens, it’ll be too late!”

Peng Ziyuan sighed. What good was worrying? They weren’t even in this dimension.

Just then, they heard a splash and coughing from the bathroom.

“It’s Mi Mi…” Lou Lixing said. “It’s Mi Mi!”

He ran towards the bathroom, but Peng Ziyuan stopped him:

    “Wait! I’ll check!”

Peng Ziyuan rushed into the bathroom and found Lou Mi, coughing and sputtering, wrapped her in a towel:

“Mi Mi, Mi Mi! Are you okay?! Where’s Little Lin?!”

Lou Mi, recovering, reached into the bathtub.

    She felt the solid bottom.

The abyss was gone, and so was Chi Lin.

“Little Lin…” Lou Mi whispered, “where’s Little Lin?”

    Peng Ziyuan’s face paled.

Lou Mi had returned alone. Chi Lin had sent her back.

The restoration of Dayuan had initially gone smoothly. The combined forces of twenty-five thousand soldiers, like ghosts, ambushed the rebels from behind.

The Empress’s death had been kept secret, but rumors had spread.

Her sudden reappearance terrified the Third Prince.

Wasn’t Jin Yi dead?! Or was this all a trap? Had she been faking her death, waiting for him to reveal himself?

His plans were ruined. The imperial army advanced swiftly. Chi Lin led the charge, pursuing the rebels for hundreds of miles, killing five thousand and burying the rest alive.

The Third Prince, defeated, committed suicide.

This decisive victory, however, made Chi Lin uneasy.

She raced back to the capital alone.

Was there something she had overlooked?

Her Majesty’s death had been too convenient; perhaps the Third Prince hadn’t been the only one involved.

As Chi Lin suspected, the true mastermind was the Minister of Rites, one of the seemingly loyal officials who had remained in the capital.

He was the one who manipulated the Third Prince!

As Chi Lin arrived in Shangjing, Lou Mi and her Imperial Guards were cornered in the Imperial Garden!

The guards were losing, their formation crumbling, when Chi Lin appeared, single-handedly repelling the rebels and rescuing Lou Mi!

The guards outside the palace, receiving General Chi’s command, stormed the gates, and the garden erupted in chaos.

Chi Lin, in her blood-soaked armor, shielded Lou Mi, fighting their way out, pursued relentlessly by the rebels.

Chi Lin glanced at the night sky. Another three months! Just as she was about to jump into the pond with Lou Mi, Lou Mi stopped her:

“The Blood Essence Pearl is broken!”

    Chi Lin: “What?”

“I don’t know when it happened, I saw a crack this morning!”

    Chapter 114 p1

That night, Lou Mi couldn’t bring herself to leave.

Seeing Chi Lin clinging to her like a child, content and safe in her arms, made it impossible for her to leave.

“I’ll come back after my shower.”

Lou Mi had thought it was too soon, too forward.

    But Chi Lin readily agreed:

“Okay, I’ll make you some calming tea.”

    So they were sleeping together?

As Lou Mi applied her skincare routine after her shower, a thought struck her.

They had been dating for over half a year, what exactly had they done?

    Had they… done everything?

    Holy shit.

Looking at the photos on her phone, although there was no evidence of kissing or anything too intimate, they were always so close in every photo, clearly very comfortable with each other.

It would be strange if they hadn’t done anything…

    So, they had?

But Chi Lin had just turned eighteen…

    Was she a predator?

The thought made her drop her expensive skincare cream, the entire jar shattering on the floor.

    Lou Mi: “…”

Picking up the pieces, she looked at her phone.

Xie Buyu and the others would definitely know all the gossip.

    Should she ask?

Lou Mi opened WeChat, then hesitated.

If they had done it, it was fine, but if they hadn’t…?

Xie Buyu would laugh her ass off.

She could already imagine the mockery:

“Sister Mi, you haven’t even regained your memories, and you’re already thinking about your little sister? Tsk, tsk, memory loss reveals true character.”

Lou Mi leaned against the wall. No, she couldn’t ask Xie Buyu.

She should ask Chi Lin directly.

It was a normal question for a couple, wasn’t it?

As long as her intentions were pure, her actions were pure.

Lou Mi dried and tied her hair, encouraging herself:

    “It’s fine, she’s just a kid, you’re a grown-up, just ask.”

Wearing her nightgown, she knocked on Chi Lin’s door.

Chi Lin, also fresh from the shower, opened the door, the scent of her shower gel lingering in the air.

“You’re here…” Chi Lin, in a pink nightgown, held a cup of tea. “Would you like some calming tea? It helps with sleep.”

Chi Lin’s long hair was down, and she looked soft and fragrant, a distinctly feminine aura that made Lou Mi’s heart flutter.

“Thank you.” Lou Mi took the tea and sniffed it. “It smells unique.”

“It’s your favorite,” Chi Lin said.

Lou Mi, feeling unexpectedly nervous, took a sip. The taste was unusual, unlike anything she had ever tasted.

    “What’s in it?”

    “Mostly Fuxuanzi.”

“Never heard of it. But it’s good.”

Lou Mi finished the small cup in two gulps.

Chi Lin took the cup to the kitchen. Lou Mi had wanted to take it herself, but seeing Chi Lin’s caring gesture, she couldn’t refuse.

She had to admit, she felt a bit awkward and flustered around Chi Lin.

Chi Lin returned, and they entered the room.

As Chi Lin closed the door, she turned to Lou Mi and whispered:

“Can I still call you ‘sister’?”

Lou Mi, pretending to be busy with Chi Lin’s homework:

“Of course, it’s a bit cheesy, but I’ll get used to it. Or ‘Your Majesty,’ whatever you want.”

    Chi Lin smiled: “Thank you.”

Lou Mi looked up at her: “What’s there to thank me for, silly.”

    Chi Lin continued to smile.

    …So adorable.

Lou Mi thought she must have been blind before, blind to Chi Lin’s cuteness.

How could she have ever disliked her?

    Lou Mi’s mind wandered.

She wanted to hug Chi Lin again.

    What excuse could she use?

She stared at the English words on the page, unable to focus.

“Your pajamas are cute,” she said, making conversation, trying to avoid awkward silence.

Chi Lin: “You bought them for me.”

    “Oh, I have good taste?”

“You said my other clothes were too boring, that pink suits me.”

“It does, you look good in pink.”

Chi Lin glanced at her bare legs, still not used to skirts and dresses.

But seeing that Her Majesty liked them, she felt reassured.

    Silence again.

Dating was hard, Lou Mi thought, she couldn’t even touch her own girlfriend.

Maybe they should just sleep, talk more when they were more comfortable.

Otherwise, Chi Lin might think she was being too forward.

Okay, that’s what she would do.

Just as Lou Mi closed her tablet and stood up, Chi Lin hugged her from behind.

The sudden embrace made Lou Mi stumble.

But Chi Lin held her steady.

“Sister, can I hug you for a bit?”

    “Of course…”

    “Thank you.”

Lou Mi felt Chi Lin’s arms tighten around her, the warmth of her body seeping through their pajamas.

    Was she crying again?

After a while, Lou Mi turned around: “The tea is working, I’m sleepy. Time for bed?”

“Okay.” Chi Lin’s fingers still clung to Lou Mi’s nightgown.

Lou Mi took her hand: “Do you mind if I hold you?”

    Chi Lin seemed surprised: “Really?”

Lou Mi chuckled and patted her head: “Of course, we’re dating.”

Chi Lin’s joy was pure and childlike, making Lou Mi wonder—

How far had they gone before? Why was Chi Lin so attached to her?

But the WeChat logs only showed playful banter, no details of their intimacy.

Were all couples’ conversations this shallow?

Lou Mi lay in bed, wondering how to hold Chi Lin, when Chi Lin snuggled close, as if afraid she would disappear.

Chi Lin wrapped her arms around Lou Mi’s waist: “Can I use your arm as a pillow? Just for a bit?”

The soft glow of the night light illuminated Chi Lin’s face, her eyes filled with longing and a hint of hesitation.

Lou Mi extended her arm: “You can use it forever.”

    “Thank you…”

Chi Lin leaned against her, their bodies close.

Lou Mi could hear her heartbeat.

“Stop saying ‘thank you’,” Lou Mi wrapped her arm around Chi Lin, pulling her closer. “I’m the one who let you down, don’t be so reserved, just tell me what you want. I’ll do anything for you.”

Lou Mi thought she had said the right thing, but Chi Lin remained silent.

Damn it, Lou Mi thought, did she think this was just pity, not genuine affection?

She did feel something, but how could she be forward with a kid?

She wasn’t the same person as before the memory loss!

“Sister,” Chi Lin said softly, “you didn’t let me down. If it were me who lost my memories, I would want you to be patient and kind. I know you’re struggling, but please forgive me, I can’t leave you. I want to be near you…”

Even just hearing your voice, feeling your breath, is enough.

Just one embrace, and I can keep going.

Lou Mi’s heart ached. What a sweet, silly girl.

    She held Chi Lin tightly.

“I’ll take you to school tomorrow, okay?”

Chi Lin nodded in her embrace.

“Then I’ll go to my club, I need to check on things. Don’t worry, I’ll pick you up after school. We’ll have dinner, I’ll help you study, then we’ll sleep together.”

    Chi Lin nodded repeatedly.

    So, she wasn’t crying anymore.

Lou Mi stroked her hair: “Okay, time to sleep…”

Perhaps because of the tea, Lou Mi was drowsy, barely remembering what she said:

“Sweet dreams, baby, see you tomorrow…”

Chi Lin, seeing that she was asleep, kissed her softly.

    “See you tomorrow.”

Lou Mi, still sleepy after eight hours of sleep, yawned repeatedly as she drove Chi Lin to school.

Chi Lin told her to get some more rest. Lou Mi, sipping her coffee, said she was fine:

“I’ll sleep on the way to the club, I want to talk to you now.”

    Chi Lin: “Okay, talk!”

“Why are you so nervous? Am I usually that mean to you?”

“No, you’re always so kind and considerate.”

“That’s good, at least I’m not a bully.”

    Chi Lin chuckled.

    “What are you smiling about?”

Chi Lin said something that stunned Lou Mi:

“I’m actually seven years older than you.”

    Lou Mi: “…”

    What?!

    Seven years older?

    Than her?!

Return to Jianghu, “ENIAC Reigns Supreme” guild.

After the summer tournament, Dr. Bai had advised her to avoid holographic games until her PT index was consistently zero for two weeks, then gradually increase her playtime, starting with thirty minutes.

Lou Mi, finally reaching her goal, eagerly logged in, finding herself in a ridiculous dragon robe, holding a jade seal.

    Who was this?!

Entering the guild headquarters: a palace?

Xie Buyu, the eunuch, and Fu Tu, the palace maid, rushed over:

    “What are you doing here?”

    “Did you regain your memories?”

Lou Mi, startled by their appearance: “What are you wearing?! Who are you trying to scare?!”

Xie Buyu and Fu Tu exchanged glances: “She still doesn’t remember.”

    “Thanks to you.”

    “Me?”

    “Yes.”

    “Forget it, whatever.”

“Wait,” Lou Mi said, “why did I turn the guild into this?”

“We were wondering the same thing.”

Just then, Chi Lin logged in.

Xie Buyu patted Lou Mi’s shoulder: “Go ask your little sister. Come on, Fu Tu, let’s go have our meal.”

    Lou Mi: “…”

Chi Lin entered the hall and, seeing Lou Mi, asked anxiously:

“Your Majesty, why are you online?”

“My PT index is normal now, I just wanted to check on things…” Lou Mi stared at her face.

It was the older sister’s face, and yet, it felt so familiar and comforting.

This Chi Lin was even more captivating.

“Your PT is normal? How long have you been online? Shouldn’t you take it easy? Let’s log out in fifteen minutes, okay?”

Chi Lin, worried, touched her face.

Lou Mi, slightly flustered by the touch, instinctively leaned back.

Chi Lin, realizing her forwardness, stepped back, composed herself, and asked:

“Have you been online for a while?”

    “About five minutes.”

“I’ll time you, ten minutes, then we log out, okay?”

The mature face and physique suited Chi Lin’s aura, this felt like the real her.

“Okay…” Lou Mi, under Big Sister’s watchful eye, couldn’t refuse.

    “Want to take a walk?”

    “Yes!”

Chi Lin noticed Lou Mi’s excitement, her gaze fixed on her face, her affection evident.

Chi Lin took her hand and led her through the Taihua Palace, towards the garden.

    “Aren’t you in class?”

“Lunch break, I saw you online, so I came. Do you remember this garden, Your Majesty? You built it.”

Chi Lin led her through the hibiscus flowers, across the bridge, towards the pavilion.

She had brought her here hoping to trigger some memories.

She knew it wasn’t easy, she didn’t expect a sudden breakthrough.

But Lou Mi’s demeanor changed as they entered the garden. She looked at the flowers, the bridge, the pavilion, her silence making Chi Lin’s heart race.

“Your Majesty, do you remember something?”

Lou Mi looked at her: “Southern Palace?”

    Chi Lin: “…”

    She remembered!

Chi Lin’s heart was a mixture of emotions.

When Lou Mi returned from the abyss, her first fragmented memories had also been of the Southern Palace. Seeing the meticulously recreated garden, Chi Lin knew how significant it was to Lou Mi.

Chi Lin understood, the Southern Palace held special meaning for her too, memories that made her ache with a phantom pain.

She had tried many methods to trigger Lou Mi’s memories.

She hadn’t expected their most profound connection to be… that.

    Chi Lin sighed inwardly.

Her Majesty’s enthusiasm, both in this life and the past, was undeniable.

    Should she try that method?

Lou Mi, standing in the pavilion, enjoying the breeze, heard Chi Lin ask:

“Does Return to Jianghu have an adult mode?”

Chi Lin remembered Lou Mi telling her about the advanced features of modern holographic games, how N-Count’s flagship game, “Secret Chamber,” had an adult mode for dating.

    Accessible to anyone over 18.

In adult mode, there were no outside distractions or intrusions, a private world for the players.

And the new generation somatic chips simulated all sensations, almost indistinguishable from reality.

    Chi Lin’s palms were sweating.

She knew what this question implied.

Lou Mi was looking at her with surprise.

“Yes…” Lou Mi’s voice was slightly tense.

“Can we activate it now? It’ll be quick.”

Lou Mi looked at Chi Lin, a sudden shift in the atmosphere, the fragrance of the flowers more intense, their senses heightened. Chi Lin could almost feel the heat radiating from Lou Mi’s body.

    “Is it, activated?”

    “Yes.”

“No one else can see us, right?”

    “No…”

    Lou Mi’s mind was blank.

Chi Lin, trusting her answer, slowly undressed.

Lou Mi, back in her office, gasped, quickly locking the door and silencing her phone.

    Why so sudden?

Chi Lin was looking at her.

“Your Majesty,” Chi Lin leaned closer, her voice slightly nervous, “can Your Majesty, join me now?”

    Lou Mi’s blood pressure spiked.

    Join her where?

Was it what she thought it was?!

Chi Lin embraced her, her warmth making Lou Mi’s heart race.

    This was too much.

    ***

During lunch break, Chi Lin was alone in the classroom, slumped over her desk.

Her eyes were closed, her face flushed, her body trembling slightly.

She bit her lip, suppressing any sounds.

    “Your Majesty, Your Majesty.”

    “Is this it? Tell me.”

    “Yes…”

  • Can We Get Married First?  113

    Chapter 113

A Bao removed her access crystal, her face ashen.

Her teammates had already left Gamer’s live stream room. The coach, standing outside, looked at her hesitantly, then left without a word.

    The room was empty.

Her teammates, the staff, the media were all next door, interviewing the victors.

Loneliness was the privilege of the defeated.

The long match had left A Bao exhausted and disoriented. She stumbled towards the exit, leaning against the wall for support.

    Someone took her arm.

She looked back; it was Xiao V.

Xiao V was always like this, silently supporting her, never questioning, just doing whatever was needed.

She never asked for anything, yet always appeared in A Bao’s most vulnerable moments, a steady presence preventing her from falling apart.

“Does it hurt?” Xiao V asked.

    A Bao shook her head.

    “I was filmed.”

As she helped A Bao towards the lounge, Xiao V whispered:

“That drone, I don’t know when it started following me, it might have recorded our earlier conversation too.”

A Bao looked at her, startled, instinctively looking around.

    “Don’t look. Listen to me…”

Xiao V swallowed, and A Bao noticed the unsettling red marks on her neck, spreading upwards from beneath her collar.

“I might not have much time left,” Xiao V said as they walked down the hallway, the sounds of celebration echoing distantly.

Xiao V’s words, her trembling voice, felt close and real.

    A Bao believed her instantly.

“The police will be here soon. Listen to me, blame everything on me.”

    “No…”

Two men and two women in police uniforms approached them from around the corner, their gazes fixed on them as they quickened their pace.

Xiao V’s grip on A Bao’s arm tightened: “Remember, blame everything on me, I’m dying anyway… You’re different, you still have a future!”

“Why?” Compared to Xiao V’s urgency, A Bao seemed strangely calm, asking a seemingly irrelevant question. “What’s wrong with you?”

Xiao V looked at her. This was the first time A Bao had shown any interest in her well-being.

    Xiao V’s eyes reddened.

When she realized her grandmother’s warning was true, that the Soul-Catching Orb was consuming her, her first thought wasn’t of her own death, but of what would happen to A Bao.

Having never received love, she hadn’t feared losing it, that’s why she had been so fearless.

Now, A Bao’s concern made her afraid.

    Xiao V’s hand trembled: “I, I think I’m dying.”

    “Congratulations!”

As Lou Mi returned to the lounge, everyone crowded around her, congratulating her.

The media were waiting outside for interviews. Zhuo Jinglan, seeing Lou Mi’s pale face, said:

“The match was long, the players are exhausted, they need to rest. I’ll let you know when they’re ready for interviews.”

“Little Lin.” Lou Mi walked slowly, the faces around her a blur, her eyes only seeing Chi Lin. “You’re back? You’re injured?”

She wanted to see the wound but hesitated.

Chi Lin, overjoyed, hugged her tightly:

    “Sister, you won!”

“Mm…” Lou Mi closed her eyes, sighed deeply, then opened them, looking at Xie Buyu and Fu Tu with a puzzled expression.

“So cheesy,” Xie Buyu said, rolling her eyes. “Sister Mi, take Little Sister to the hospital, look at her injuries, she waited for you to finish the match.”

Lou Mi asked: “Little Lin, how did you get hurt?”

Chi Lin hesitated, looking at Lou Mi’s dazed eyes, feeling uneasy.

Lou Mi knew about her confrontation with Cheng Xuan and Liang Zheng, injuries were inevitable.

    “Does your head hurt, Sister?”

    “Mm…”

Chi Lin helped her sit down and said to Xie Buyu:

    “Can you call a doctor?”

Xie Buyu, noticing Lou Mi’s unusual stillness, her unfocused gaze, rushed out:

    “I’ll be right back!”

Fu Tu wanted to go with her, but Xie Buyu stopped her:

    “Stay here and help!”

Chi Lin asked how Lou Mi was feeling. Lou Mi, leaning against the sofa, forced a smile:

“I feel the joy of victory.”

Chi Lin, worried, her eyes welling up, was surprised she could still joke:

    “Be serious!”

“It hurts a little, it’s fine, I just need to rest.”

Chi Lin saw the pill bottle in Lou Mi’s bag:

    “You took neural stimulants?”

Lou Mi pouted, looking innocent and pitiful: “Don’t scold me, I had no choice. I can lose to anyone, but not her, I had to win…”

Chi Lin couldn’t bring herself to scold her: “I understand, but how much does it hurt? Let me check your PT index.”

As she reached for the testing device, Lou Mi stopped her. A thought flickered in Lou Mi’s mind, then vanished like smoke, she tried to grasp it but couldn’t. She looked at Chi Lin and suddenly said, “Chi Lin?”

Chi Lin was puzzled by her sudden use of her full name, and even more so when Lou Mi released her hand.

“Where’s Xie Buyu?” Lou Mi asked Fu Tu.

Fu Tu: “…Didn’t she go to get a doctor?”

Lou Mi closed her eyes, rubbing her temples, and hummed softly.

Chi Lin hesitated, unsure if she should get the testing device.

Zhuo Jinglan, after dealing with the media, returned and patted Lou Mi’s arm:

“Are you still alive? Can you stop worrying us like this? You almost scared us to death!”

Lou Mi: “What’s wrong with me?”

“What’s wrong with you? What did Guaren do, have you forgotten?”

“Guaren*?” Lou Mi looked at her as if she were an idiot.

“How are you feeling? A PT index of almost 7 is a new record, is your brain fried? Tell me, what’s one plus one? You have three seconds.”

Lou Mi closed her eyes, ignoring her. Her mind was both hyper-alert and exhausted, fragments of memories flashing through her mind.

She didn’t know why she was remembering these things, but they appeared uninvited, demanding her attention.

    ***

    “Han Lie is you?”

    “That’s my courtesy name.”

    “Was I too rough?”

“I just like being close to Your Majesty.”

“Don’t apologize. Crying after I kissed you makes me sound like a jerk… I’ll protect her no matter what!”

    “I’m fine, come closer…”

“If you’re hurt, you can tell me.”

    “Thank you, Sister…”

“Who do you think you are? You’re not my sister! We’re not family!”

“I don’t need your fake concern, leave me alone!”

    ***

Lou Mi reached for the glass of water beside her.

    She missed.

Chi Lin immediately reached out to help, but Lou Mi looked at her with disgust.

    “Sister?”

Lou Mi took the glass, drank the water, and said, “Don’t call me that, I’m not your sister.”

The drone was recovered from the sea. The data confirmed A Bao’s involvement in the highway accident.

More evidence was presented, linking A Bao and Xiao V to several other attacks.

Xiao V urged A Bao to blame everything on her, but A Bao refused.

“I did it, I planned everything, I’m the one responsible. I hated Lou Mi, I wanted everyone close to her dead. It was all me.”

A Bao confessed, downplaying Xiao V’s role.

There was no scientific evidence for sorcery.

As A Bao was led out of the interrogation room, she glanced at Xiao V at the end of the long, dark hallway.

As if sensing her gaze, Xiao V turned around.

    A Bao smiled.

    I’m sorry, thank you…

A Bao was sentenced to life in prison, Xiao V to four years and five months.

Xiao V died in prison, cause of death unknown.

The incident caused a stir in the esports community.

At the nursing home, the nurses noticed HighTowerMiyuki visiting the elderly woman again.

Everyone knew her daughter had been sentenced to life. They thought the old woman would be alone, but…

The nurses peeked from behind the wall, admiring Lou Mi. She was beautiful, successful, a legend in the esports world.

Lou Mi pushed A Bao’s mother’s wheelchair into the sunlight, sat on a bench, and looked at her:

“What does it feel like to forget someone, something?”

A Bao’s mother didn’t respond, just clutched a small handkerchief.

Lou Mi recognized it; it was A Bao’s, the little flowers embroidered by her.

She didn’t know why she remembered this, the memory surfacing suddenly.

Chi Lin stood nearby, silently watching over her.

Chi Lin was still following her…

    Lou Mi sighed inwardly.

She still couldn’t believe they were in a relationship.

Her memory stopped at the beginning of last year.

Back then, they couldn’t stand each other.

That little devil, even when pretending to be well-behaved, was still a troublemaker.

Why would she ever fall in love with her?

Dr. Bai said her memory loss was caused by holographic gaming syndrome and the neural stimulants, similar to Alzheimer’s, but not quite.

Her memories were jumbled, they might return, or they might not, they might even regress further.

Lou Mi: “So, my memories might regress to years ago, even decades ago?”

“It’s possible,” Dr. Bai said. “Anything is possible with your condition.”

Lou Mi’s case was rare, even for Dr. Bai, a specialist in holographic gaming syndrome.

    She sighed:

“Miss Lou, what am I going to do with you?”

“Just tell me, how long do I have left?”

“It’s not life-threatening, just a reaction to the neural stimulation. There’s some damage, but it’s manageable for now. But how long it will last, how severe it will become, is uncertain.”

“Oh, as long as I’m not dying, it’s fine.”

    “You’re always so optimistic.”

Lou Mi chuckled: “I think I remember being someone important in my past life.”

Dr. Bai smiled: “You are someone important in this life too.”

No matter what Lou Mi said, A Bao’s mother didn’t respond, just stared blankly.

Lou Mi wondered, would she become like this too?

Forgetting everything, even the most important people.

    ***

    “Lou Mi.”

She had fallen asleep. A gentle voice woke her.

She was leaning against Chi Lin’s shoulder, a blanket covering her. A Bao’s mother had been taken back to her room; they were alone in the garden.

“Let’s go back,” Chi Lin said gently.

    “Okay…” Lou Mi sat up.

Chi Lin had initially called her “sister,” even “Your Majesty” in private, which had amused Lou Mi.

What Majesty? What were they talking about?

    They were dating?

And Chi Lin had joined Nine Heavens, become a professional gamer?

    This was ridiculous.

Lou Mi refused to accept it.

    But…

Why did Chi Lin look so sad? Lou Mi wondered. Hadn’t they always bickered? Why was she giving up so easily now?

“Stop calling me ‘sister,’ please,” Lou Mi said, cringing at the overly familiar term.

From then on, Chi Lin obediently called her by her name.

After the first match, Lou Mi played as a substitute, Chi Lin carrying the team.

Lou Mi hadn’t expected Chi Lin to be so good.

Checking her Weibo, she saw many posts she didn’t recognize.

Why were all her posts since last fall mentioning Chi Lin?

And so many photos of Chi Lin in her album?

Silly smiles, awkward poses, blurry shots… mountains of them.

    Why hadn’t she deleted them?

Lou Mi didn’t understand. She hated that face.

Why did Chi Lin’s silent gaze, her constant presence, her quiet devotion, make her heart ache?

That unsettling feeling of forgetting something important returned.

Back in the car, Chi Lin offered her a thermos.

“I can get it myself.” Lou Mi felt her care was excessive.

When her memory first regressed, when the headaches were so severe she had to stay in the hospital, Chi Lin had taken care of everything, even dressing her, making Lou Mi incredibly uncomfortable.

She wasn’t a servant, why do all this?

Lou Mi had told her to leave: “I can change myself!”

Chi Lin had waited outside patiently until she was called back in.

No matter how much Lou Mi pushed her away, Chi Lin never complained, never argued, never yelled, never insulted her.

Seeing her gentle patience, Lou Mi couldn’t bring herself to reject her kindness.

Even with Lou Mi’s coldness, Chi Lin remained patient and kind, placing the thermos within easy reach.

“Going home, or getting something to eat?” Chi Lin asked, to set the navigation.

“Aren’t you going out with your friends? It’s the weekend.”

    Chi Lin shook her head.

I want to be with you.

She didn’t say it aloud, not wanting to pressure Lou Mi.

Lou Mi didn’t remember her, Her Majesty had forgotten her again.

This feeling of being forgotten was painful, and Lou Mi’s coldness made it even harder.

Playing for Nine Heavens while being unable to get close to Lou Mi, constantly met with puzzled looks, those days had been incredibly difficult for Chi Lin.

Fate seemed to be toying with her.

In her past life, she had Her Majesty’s love, then lost it.

In this life, she had found her again, only to lose her once more.

But Chi Lin wouldn’t give up.

At least Her Majesty was here, she could see her every day, it was a small comfort.

She still had a chance; Her Majesty would remember.

Even if she never remembered their love, Chi Lin was determined to stay by her side, to care for her always.

“Let’s go home,” Lou Mi said, feeling tired.

Since her memory loss, she tired easily, both mentally and physically.

On the way home, Lou Mi fell asleep. Chi Lin adjusted the temperature, so she wouldn’t get cold.

Lou Mi’s sleeping face tensed slightly.

“Your Majesty?” Chi Lin leaned closer. “What’s wrong? Bad dream?”

“Your Majesty?” Lou Mi mumbled in her sleep.

After a moment of silence, she whispered, “Little Lin…”

Chi Lin’s breath hitched, her heart aching with a bittersweet mix of sadness and joy.

Her Majesty hadn’t completely forgotten her, she just couldn’t remember…

Chi Lin couldn’t resist and kissed Lou Mi.

    It was Her Majesty’s scent…

A wave of sadness washed over Chi Lin.

Feeling the warmth of the kiss and the tears on her face, Lou Mi slowly opened her eyes.

    “What are you doing?”

    Chi Lin, startled, pulled away.

“Sorry…” she apologized, turning her back.

    “Were you crying?”

Chi Lin didn’t answer. In the quiet car, Lou Mi could hear her soft sobs.

Lou Mi had never seen Chi Lin so vulnerable, and she felt a pang of guilt.

Chi Lin had been so attentive, so caring, following her everywhere, despite her rejection.

She had seen Chi Lin’s sadness before, but not tears, not like this.

It felt like she had truly hurt her girlfriend.

“Hey—don’t cry.” Lou Mi quickly handed her some tissues. “I didn’t say anything. You kissed me, not the other way around. Come on, wipe your tears.”

Chi Lin took the tissues, her long eyelashes wet with tears, her eyes red and puffy, like a lost puppy.

Lou Mi wanted to hug her.

When they arrived home, Chi Lin followed Lou Mi out of the car and into the elevator.

As the elevator ascended, Lou Mi looked at Chi Lin, who was looking down, and asked:

“What’s wrong? You’ve been quiet. Were you always like this?”

Chi Lin looked up: “Which ‘always’?”

The question stumped Lou Mi, and she chuckled:

“You seem like a different person.”

Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan had already prepared dinner when they arrived.

Six dishes and a soup were neatly arranged on the table, but they weren’t sitting together.

Peng Ziyuan greeted Lou Mi with a slightly forced smile:

    “Mi Mi, you’re back.”

Lou Mi said: “Don’t worry, I don’t hold anything against you, before or after the memory loss.”

    Peng Ziyuan: “…”

“Let’s eat.” Lou Mi glanced at the dishes and paused. “Where’s the steamed fish?”

    Lou Lixing: “Steamed fish?”

    Right.

Lou Mi, after asking, was also puzzled. Why steamed fish?

She looked at Lou Lixing, seeking an answer, then noticed Peng Ziyuan’s reddened eyes.

“I’ll, I’ll go make some.” Peng Ziyuan hurried to the kitchen. Chi Lin pulled out a chair for Lou Mi.

“You actually do remember,” Lou Lixing said as he handed her chopsticks. “Steamed fish is Little Lin’s favorite.”

After dinner, Chi Lin went to her room to do her homework.

Half an hour later, she realized she hadn’t written a single word.

The college entrance exams were approaching, but she felt no motivation.

She lay on her desk, scrolling through her phone, seeing her classmates complaining about the homework in the group chat.

Wei Zhuoning had messaged her fifteen minutes ago:

“Lin, has Sister Lou recovered her memories yet?”

Chi Lin wanted to reply, but she felt exhausted, staring blankly at the screen.

She hadn’t noticed when Lou Mi entered the room.

“Hey.” Lou Mi tapped her head, startling her.

Lou Mi chuckled: “What are you so engrossed in?”

Chi Lin quickly explained: “A classmate, she has a girlfriend now.”

Lou Mi: “…I wasn’t asking about that.”

    “Oh…”

Lou Mi coughed: “I heard your mock exam scores dropped? What happened? Did you write down the questions you missed? Anything you don’t understand?”

Lou Mi seemed to want to help her study, which meant spending time alone together.

“Yes, a lot,” Chi Lin immediately fetched her study materials. Seeing her usual cheerfulness return, Lou Mi felt a pang of sympathy.

This was just a sweet, adorable kid.

Lou Mi patiently explained the difficult concepts, and Chi Lin quickly grasped them.

“You’re doing great,” Lou Mi was surprised by how quickly she learned. “Your previous scores must have been because you were distracted.”

    Chi Lin nodded guiltily.

Lou Mi’s voice softened: “Were you worried about me?”

Chi Lin nodded again after a moment of silence.

“I listened to all our WeChat messages,” Lou Mi leaned back in her chair. “It felt like someone else’s story, but I could tell we were… very much in love. You spoiled me, and I was very dependent on you. Chi Lin, we really did love each other. I’m sorry I forgot.”

Tears welled up in Chi Lin’s eyes.

She struggled to keep her voice steady:

    “It’s not your fault…”

Lou Mi took Chi Lin’s hand, gently unclenching her fist.

“Can I hug you?” she asked softly.

Chi Lin nodded, biting her lip.

    Lou Mi awkwardly embraced her.

Chi Lin’s body was smaller and thinner than she remembered.

But the embrace filled Lou Mi with a sense of completeness.

    Like holding something precious.

Chi Lin cried silently in her arms. Lou Mi gently stroked her back and hair, comforting her.

    If only she could remember.

She thought, being in love with someone like Chi Lin must be wonderful.

  • Can We Get Married First?  112

    Chapter 112

So, Chi Lin hadn’t been playing from the beginning.

Xiao V stared at the screen, stunned.

She had considered every possibility, but not this, not Nine Heavens’ audacity.

In this crucial match against Gamer, they dared to not use their strongest lineup?

Last night, A Bao had said, “They’ll be prepared. But I have no doubt you’ll find a way to win. Your abilities are our greatest asset. You’re all I have left, you’ll protect me, won’t you?”

A Bao had never been so dependent on her. Xiao V knew this was her chance to prove her worth.

    This was her best opportunity.

She knew Lou Mi was a formidable opponent; she had been meticulously planning.

She hadn’t slept properly in days.

    ***

Xiao V had been the first to sense Chi Lin’s arrival.

The Soul-Catching Orb, passed down through generations, had alerted her to a soul’s transmigration.

Intrigued, she had spent time confirming that the soul was with Lou Mi.

It was a godsend. She shared her plan with A Bao, who agreed.

“She rejected me publicly, now I’ll make her suffer the same pain.”

Although A Bao said this, she didn’t seem as enthusiastic as Xiao V expected.

The failed plan, the missing drone, the police investigation… A Bao had been unhappy.

And then, Chi Lin joined Nine Heavens, her relationship with Lou Mi blossoming, gaining public support… A Bao grew even more withdrawn.

She grew thinner and paler, her heart darkening.

She had been so cheerful before meeting Lou Mi.

It was all Lou Mi’s fault.

If she couldn’t give her whole heart, why be so kind to A Bao in the beginning?

Just because she was her apprentice?

Xiao V found it ridiculous. Lou Mi was deceiving herself.

There was no such thing as selfless giving; every action had an expected return.

Unconditional love only existed in fairy tales.

Even her unwavering devotion to A Bao was a form of seeking reciprocation.

A simple smile, a brief hug, was enough for her.

She cherished everything about A Bao.

So how could Lou Mi’s actions not be motivated by love?

A Bao had wanted a relationship, and Lou Mi had rejected her, claiming she hadn’t considered it?

Xiao V couldn’t understand, didn’t want to understand.

She wanted to see Lou Mi ruined, to see her loved ones suffer.

But fate seemed to favor Lou Mi.

Even after they left Nine Heavens, Lou Mi continued to lead the team to victory.

At 26, she was still at her peak.

And that time traveler had integrated seamlessly into the professional scene, helping Lou Mi.

It was laughable. Xiao V tried so hard, and yet fate ignored her.

Lou Mi effortlessly had everything she wanted.

She had never said it aloud, but Xiao V had thought it many times:

If A Bao loved her, she would cherish her forever.

While searching for the drone, Xiao V noticed the Soul-Catching Orb vibrating again.

Stronger than when Chi Lin arrived.

She told A Bao, who had someone monitor them.

These two time travelers were different from Chi Lin, reckless and foolish, strong but unable to adapt to this era.

After two months, they were penniless, having alienated their families, resorting to petty crimes.

A Bao found them and offered them a deal: loyalty.

Being able to switch bodies was convenient. After each crime, they simply discarded the body, even if caught by the police, they could just separate their souls.

Xiao V, controlling them with the Soul-Catching Orb, felt a sense of power, a god-like power.

Her grandmother had warned her: “The orb is a tool of darkness, use it for good, or it will consume you.”

But after controlling Chi Lin’s soul without any consequences, Xiao V grew bolder.

Today was her chance to kill two birds with one stone.

    But why…

The match continued, Lin fighting fiercely.

Xiao V felt uneasy. She put away her phone and headed towards Gamer’s lounge, followed by a tiny, fly-sized drone with night vision.

Lin, controlled by Huhu, killed Gamer’s tank, then was killed by another attacker.

Two players remained on each team.

The lights suddenly came back on.

Lou Mi sat calmly in her chair, arms crossed, eyes closed, still focused on the game.

    But Chi Lin was gone.

The chair beside her was empty.

And where were the two rogue officers?

There was only one entrance, and the emergency exit seemed locked. With so many people, they would have noticed if someone tried to leave.

    But no one had.

    Where were they?!

Someone noticed the water tank in the corner, overflowing.

The tank was large enough for two people, but it was an ordinary tank, the bottom clearly visible.

No one paid attention to it. An officer checked the emergency exit; it was unlocked.

He exchanged glances with his colleague and they ran towards the exit.

The referee, the organizing committee, and the director rushed in, asking what had happened, should they stop the match?

Zhuo Jinglan, seeing that Lou Mi and Fu Tu were winning, signaled to continue.

If they lost due to this interruption, they could appeal.

She didn’t want to distract Lou Mi.

Before the match, Lou Mi had instructed Zhuo Jinglan to bring the water tank into the room, her tone serious.

“When Little Lin logs out, immediately move the tank to the lounge!”

Lou Mi’s request had seemed strange.

Now, with Chi Lin gone, Zhuo Jinglan was puzzled, but she remembered her promise.

She pointed at the tank and hissed: “Who put this here?!”

A staff member said: “Didn’t Nine Heavens request it? For feng shui, to ward off bad luck.”

Zhuo Jinglan: “Are you serious? A tank of water with the AC blasting? Are you trying to make them sick? Get it out of here!”

She gestured to Huhu and the trainees, who started moving the tank.

“Wait,” a security officer stopped them. “Where are those two men? And your teammate? Where did she go?”

Lou Mi, hearing this, was momentarily distracted.

A Bao seized the opportunity and attacked, almost stunning Lou Mi, but Fu Tu shielded her, pulling her to safety.

“Focus!” Fu Tu said. She was in the live stream room too, hearing the commotion.

But the match was their priority.

At this point, it wasn’t about skill, but focus.

Lou Mi knew Chi Lin had dragged Cheng Xuan and Liang Zheng into the water tank, to send them back to Dayuan.

But if the tank wasn’t moved, would Chi Lin emerge in front of everyone?

    Lou Mi was getting anxious.

    Sister Lan, do something!

The security officers continued their search. The referee, annoyed, said:

“Please leave, you’re disturbing the players.”

They left, and Zhuo Jinglan immediately had the trainees move the water tank.

    Finally, it was gone…

Zhuo Jinglan, sweating, wondered what was going on with that tank.

Some viewers were engrossed in the match, others noticed the missing player cams.

[What’s happening?! Is Sister Lou in danger?!]

[She’s still playing, she must be okay.]

[She just made a mistake, she must be distracted.]

[Stop the match! Someone attacked her!]

[Anyone at the venue? Give us some news!]

    ***

The online discussions intensified. Fu Tu and another Gamer player killed each other, leaving only Lou Mi and A Bao.

    [1v1! This is fate!]

[Almost three hours, will it be a draw?]

[No, they’ll play overtime for another hour, then it’s decided by damage output.]

    [That’s brutal!]

[They’re still playing after that incident?! Unfair!]

[Nine Heavens must have their reasons. Lou Mi is the attacker, A Bao the support, Lou Mi has the advantage.]

The room was finally quiet. Xie Buyu and Fu Tu joined Zhuo Jinglan and Huhu in the viewing area, watching nervously.

In the abyss, Chi Lin, having dragged Cheng Xuan and Liang Zheng in, dodged their attacks, killed Liang Zheng, and took his gun.

Liang Zheng’s soul, released from his body, dissipated into the abyss.

Cheng Xuan, momentarily distracted, gave Chi Lin an opening.

Chi Lin, fascinated by guns since learning about modern history, was a skilled marksman, even in the game.

But the abyss slowed the bullet’s speed.

Cheng Xuan dodged, but the bullet grazed his wrist, and he dropped his gun.

He tried to retrieve it, but Chi Lin was about to fire again when she realized she was out of bullets.

Cheng Xuan pulled out a dagger and lunged at her.

Chi Lin dodged, grabbing his arm, trying to disarm him.

As they struggled, Chi Lin pressed a pressure point on his arm.

Cheng Xuan’s arm went numb, and he panicked. He knew Chi Lin’s skill in pressure point combat.

He struggled to escape, swimming back towards the light.

Chi Lin, seeing his intention to return to the modern era, grabbed his ankle.

He slashed her hand with his dagger.

They were both floating, their movements difficult to control, or Chi Lin would have subdued him already.

Close combat was ideal, but his dagger made it dangerous.

But he was desperate to escape, and if he returned to the modern world, finding him again would be difficult.

    She couldn’t let him go!

Chi Lin lunged forward, grabbing his throat.

Cheng Xuan, a seasoned warrior, was surprised by her boldness. Did she really want to fight him hand-to-hand?

He stabbed her repeatedly, but Chi Lin dodged, his blade slicing her arm.

    ***

The three-hour mark arrived. A Bao had survived, barely, with a sliver of health remaining.

HighTowerMiyuki hadn’t been able to kill her.

Zhuo Jinglan almost jumped out of her chair.

“What happened? She had the chance!”

    Fifteen-minute break before overtime.

Lou Mi removed her access crystal, frowning, and glanced at Zhuo Jinglan, who rushed to her side.

“Are you okay?” Zhuo Jinglan whispered.

Lou Mi’s face was pale: “Back in the lounge.”

Back in the lounge, Lou Mi almost collapsed onto the sofa.

Fu Tu: “Sister Mi, what’s wrong?!”

Zhuo Jinglan, seeing Lou Mi rubbing her temples, knew: “Another headache.”

    Xie Buyu: “Holographic gaming syndrome?”

    “Probably.”

Lou Mi looked at the water tank: “Is Little Lin back?”

Zhuo Jinglan: “I was wondering where she went!”

    So she wasn’t back yet.

Lou Mi, reaching for her bag, said, “Grab those golf clubs, if it’s not Little Lin coming out of that tank, hit them.”

    “Hit them?”

    “Where would we get weapons?”

“Golf clubs, there.” Lou Mi pointed to the bag she had brought.

As she was about to take her medication, Zhuo Jinglan stopped her:

    “What are you taking?”

    Lou Mi didn’t answer.

    “Neural stimulants?”

    “It’s not banned yet.”

“It’ll damage your brain! Do you want to die?!” Zhuo Jinglan tried to snatch the pills, but Lou Mi pulled her hand back.

“It’s my body, my responsibility. I won’t lose, not to her.”

    Silence.

Fu Tu nudged Xie Buyu, who, usually quick-witted, was speechless.

This match was more than just a game for Lou Mi.

    She was determined.

Zhuo Jinglan left the room without a word.

Xie Buyu sighed and sat down.

Huhu and the trainees picked up the golf clubs. At least they could do something.

Only Fu Tu dared to approach Lou Mi, pouring her a glass of water:

“Sister Mi, if you’ve made up your mind, I’ll support you. But please be careful, don’t be reckless!”

Lou Mi nodded and swallowed the pills.

No matter how many times Cheng Xuan slashed her arm, Chi Lin didn’t loosen her grip on his throat.

His movements slowed, his knife slipping from his hand.

Chi Lin saw his soul leave his body and dissipate into the abyss. She felt her strength drain, her body battered and bruised, as she began her return journey.

When Chi Lin emerged from the water tank, Huhu and the trainees almost attacked her with the golf clubs before Xie Buyu stopped them:

    “It’s Little Sister!”

Chi Lin, exhausted, crawled out of the tank. Xie Buyu and Fu Tu helped her up.

Huhu and the trainees looked at the tank, confused, reaching inside, feeling the solid bottom. How…?

“You’re badly injured!” Fu Tu saw the deep cuts on her arm, blood still dripping.

“I’m fine… where’s, where’s my sister?” Chi Lin, still weak, looked around the room.

    “Sister Mi is still playing.”

Chi Lin glanced at the screen: “The match isn’t over yet?”

    “Overtime.”

Chi Lin took out her first aid kit, cleaned and bandaged her wounds, drank some water, changed her clothes, and then looked at the screen, seeing Lou Mi struggling against A Bao in a 1v1 battle.

“What’s wrong with Sister?” Chi Lin noticed Lou Mi’s sluggish movements.

“Her headache is back,” Zhuo Jinglan entered the room. “I just came from the monitoring center, guess what her PT index is now?”

    “How high…?”

“Almost 7!” Zhuo Jinglan’s outburst startled everyone.

“Almost 7! Is she trying to kill herself?! The committee said they’ll stop the match if it reaches 7! It’ll damage her brain! The match doesn’t matter, her life does, why doesn’t she understand?!”

    Chi Lin’s heart ached.

Her Majesty understood, better than anyone.

    Life was precious, of course.

But some things were worth more than life itself.

In her past life, it was Dayuan. In this life, it was Return to Jianghu.

It was Lou Mi’s world, her glory, something she would fight for, even with her life.

Chi Lin knew Lou Mi wouldn’t back down, not against anyone, not even herself.

    Chi Lin’s vision blurred.

This was the person she loved, in both lifetimes.

On the third level of the Snowy Peak Dungeon, A Bao felt uneasy.

She had thought she would never return to this place, but fate had brought her here again.

And now, she and Lou Mi were back, facing each other before the entire world.

Lou Mi’s performance had clearly declined; otherwise, the match would have been over half an hour ago.

But her fighting spirit was undimmed, relentlessly pursuing A Bao, her attacks fierce and determined.

At this moment, Lou Mi was more focused, more powerful than ever.

As Lou Mi finally caught up, pinning A Bao down, raising her flame spear for the final blow, A Bao looked at her, unresisting.

    The world held its breath.

    [She got her!]

    [Finish her, Sister Lou!]

    [I have a bad feeling…]

    “Shifu.”

A Bao looked at Lou Mi, her eyes smiling.

“Shifu, I was wrong,” she said. “Please don’t be angry. I won’t do it again.”

She had said this to Lou Mi countless times, whenever she skipped training or messed up a match.

She knew Lou Mi’s weakness; behind that fierce exterior was a soft heart.

No matter how big the mistake, a simple apology was enough.

[What the hell?! Is she trying a guilt trip now?]

[It’s a trap! Trying to make Sister Lou go easy on her!]

[I’m so disappointed in A Bao. Why is she doing this… ]

[Don’t fall for it, Sister Lou!]

    [Stay strong!]

Chi Lin’s wounds were bleeding again, her bandages a temporary fix. Zhuo Jinglan urged her to go to the hospital, but she couldn’t leave.

She had to be here for Lou Mi.

Her focus on the screen made her forget the pain.

    She heard A Bao’s words.

Lou Mi’s eyes narrowed, a smile playing on her lips.

A Bao’s heart leaped with hope.

    “Get lost.”

Lou Mi’s gaze turned icy, shattering A Bao’s hopes.

With all her strength, she unleashed her final attack, the flame spear arcing through the air, striking A Bao.

The entire dungeon exploded, flames engulfing the sky!

The eternally frozen Snowy Peak was now ablaze!

A chasm opened in the ground, and A Bao vanished.

Lou Mi stood at the peak, the words “Winner: Nine Heavens” appearing behind her.

    [Ahhh, Sister Lou is amazing!]

    [Nine Heavens is the best!]

    [Sister Lou conquers all!]

  • Can We Get Married First?  111p2

    Chapter 111 p2

When the Gamer team arrived, A Bao looked at Nine Heavens’ lineup: HighTowerMiyuki, Xie Buyu, Fu Tu, and Lin.

She smiled and started her pre-match preparations.

“Xiao V isn’t playing?” Zhuo Jinglan, seeing their lineup, was puzzled.

Lou Mi and Chi Lin sensed danger.

If Xiao V wasn’t playing, she must be planning something, but their intentions were too obvious.

The police were there, stationed inside the live stream room, questioning anyone suspicious.

The staff, the building security, and Lou Mi’s hired bodyguards were also present, providing layers of protection. Nine Heavens felt secure, able to focus on the match.

Zhuo Jinglan, the staff, Huhu, and the two substitute players sat in the viewing area, separated from the players by a glass door.

Huhu, having heard about the recent attacks, was slightly scared.

The air conditioning was blasting, but he felt a chill, pulling his hoodie over his head.

Zhuo Jinglan asked, “Are you nervous?”

    Huhu smiled weakly: “A little.”

He noticed a strange object in the corner of the room:

    “Sister Lan, what’s that?”

“I don’t know, Lou Mi asked us to put it there, the staff agreed. Maybe she thinks it’s too hot in here?”

    Huhu shivered again.

Before the match, Lou Mi called A Tou.

“Can you do it? Ten seconds, triggered by our live stream cutting out.”

“Yes,” A Tou said. “Even a minute.”

“The longer, the better. Thank you.”

The match, attracting global attention, was about to begin. The players’ faces appeared in small windows on either side of the screen.

The map was chosen: Snowy Peak Dungeon.

    The chat exploded:

[Are they serious?! Is this intentional?!]

[Isn’t this where A Bao confessed to Lou Mi and got rejected?]

[Yes, and where Lou Mi and Chi Lin broke the record.]

[What a coincidence… This is where it all ends.]

    [Nine Heavens will win!]

[Young Master Lin, reign supreme! Sister Lou, conquer all!]

    ***

A Bao and her teammates appeared in the Snowy Peak Dungeon. She looked at the entrance, memories flooding her mind.

“A Bao?” a teammate reminded her to focus.

A Bao nodded and entered the dungeon.

Both teams were cautious, even more so than usual.

From the first level, opportunities for engagement arose, but neither team acted rashly.

    Just some harmless probing.

Just as everyone expected the final battle to take place on the third level, HighTowerMiyuki launched a surprise attack!

Her flame spear separated Gamer’s mage from the team in a flash!

[Ahhh, that’s Sister Lou! Always so aggressive!]

    [I almost screamed!]

The isolated mage was surrounded by HighTowerMiyuki and Fu Tu. Gamer moved to rescue him.

A Bao, at the back of the team, was left vulnerable as her teammates rushed to save their mage. Xie Buyu and Lin seized the opportunity, attacking from behind.

Just as Xie Buyu cast a buff, a sense of danger made her pull Xie Buyu back.

    “Something’s wrong, they…”

Before she could finish, Gamer’s remaining members ambushed them.

They hadn’t gone to rescue their mage!

    HighTowerMiyuki scored the first kill!

But Gamer had sacrificed their mage, planning a two-for-one trade!

    Two minutes earlier.

A Bao had stopped her teammates from rescuing their mage.

It was a trap; she knew Lou Mi’s tactics too well.

A Bao smiled: “They’re after me. If we chase, we fall into their trap. If we don’t, they’ll come to us.”

Lou Mi had taught her everything.

And her infatuation with Lou Mi had made her memorize every detail.

    Now, it was her weapon.

Xie Buyu barely managed to save Lin before being killed.

    Nine Heavens lost their healer!

A Bao, having seen through Lou Mi’s plan, continued to pursue Lin after killing Xie Buyu!

Lin was almost dead, surrounded by three opponents. If they took her down, it would be Nine Heavens’ first defeat!

A Bao, excited by the imminent victory, suddenly felt a chill and stopped.

    “Something’s wrong, don’t chase!”

    “What’s wrong?”

“I don’t like this.” A Bao sensed a familiar predatory aura.

“Lin is also bait.” A Bao realized. “Fu Tu isn’t with Lou Mi, she’s waiting for an opportunity. And Lin’s damage output increases when she’s low on health. If we continue, we might be wiped out. Be patient.”

“They didn’t take the bait.” Fu Tu peeked out from behind a stalactite, seeing only Lin, no pursuers.

Lin went to kill some monsters and regain health, and Lou Mi returned.

“This is going to be a long match.”

A Bao had thought the recent events would make Lou Mi reckless and impatient.

But she was still the formidable HighTowerMiyuki, calm and collected.

Both teams fought skillfully, their strategies and control world-class, a thrilling spectacle for the viewers.

The commentators struggled to keep up.

[This first group match is finals level!]

[Nine Heavens is as strong as ever, but Gamer is also surprisingly good, a close match.]

[A Bao is clearly using her knowledge of Sister Lou’s tactics.]

[Sister Lou taught her everything, and now she’s using it against her. Heartbreaking.]

[A Bao is so ungrateful! A traitor!]

    [Let’s get #ABaoOutOfEsports trending!]

    ***

Zhuo Jinglan watched with bated breath.

She had known A Bao’s familiarity with Lou Mi’s tactics would be a problem.

That little brat… If she had known A Bao would betray them, she wouldn’t have let Lou Mi take her on as an apprentice!

The staff watched the screens intently, the players inside the glass room completely focused.

    They couldn’t afford any distractions.

This was a neural interface game; any lapse in concentration would affect their performance.

    Focus was essential.

Four police officers were in the room, one of them approaching the glass door.

    Zhuo Jinglan looked at him.

He glanced inside, then stepped back.

His colleague whispered something to him.

Zhuo Jinglan felt a surge of unease.

    Was something wrong outside?

As she looked towards the door, the two officers approached again, quickly unlocking the door!

Zhuo Jinglan’s momentary distraction ended when she heard a staff member shout, “Hey!”

The two officers entered the room, just two meters away from Lou Mi!

“Security!” Zhuo Jinglan yelled. The security team rushed in, and the two other officers inside the room reacted quickly, grabbing their colleagues.

One of the intruders fired his gun; a police officer narrowly dodged the bullet.

    The sudden chaos startled everyone.

They were live! What was going on?!

Xiao V, watching from the hallway, smiled inwardly.

Let’s see if they choose their lives or the game.

The two officers inside locked the glass door and barricaded it with a table.

The officers outside tried to fire their guns, but their bullets were gone!

They tried to break down the door, but one of the intruders, using the table as a shield, held them off.

The other intruder grabbed Lou Mi’s neck from behind.

“Lou Mi——!” Zhuo Jinglan screamed, banging on the glass.

The live stream viewers saw a man’s hand on Lou Mi’s neck.

    [Whose hand is that?!]

    [What’s going on?!]

    [Someone’s interrupting Sister Lou’s match?! Where’s security?!]

The player cams were cut, but the game feed continued.

Xiao V ran to the doorway and peeked inside.

She saw a gun pointed at the back of Lou Mi’s head.

“Your Majesty,” the man with the gun said. “I never thought I would be the one to kill you in the end.”

Xiao V’s eyes widened with excitement.

    Kill her! Now!

Meanwhile, in a corner of the building:

    A Tou: “Ready?”

Xiao Ju: “This is child’s play.”

“Don’t be grumpy, I’ll buy you dinner later.”

Suddenly, the lights went out, plunging the building into darkness. Xiao V heard a scream.

But in that split second before the darkness, she saw Chi Lin stand up, grab the gunman’s arm, and kick him in the face.

A gunshot echoed through the darkness, followed by screams.

“Go!” The police outside broke down the door and joined the melee in the dark!

Xiao V ran, taking out her phone to watch the live stream.

After that interruption, Nine Heavens would definitely lose!

HighTowerMiyuki’s undefeated streak would end, and those two pawns were expendable.

She could deal with Lou Mi and Chi Lin later, there was no rush…

Smiling, Xiao V opened the stream, but her smile froze.

The live stream building had a backup power supply for the broadcast, so even with the power outage, the stream hadn’t been interrupted.

Xiao V couldn’t believe her eyes.

Lin was still playing, fighting alongside Lou Mi, and Nine Heavens was gaining the upper hand!

    How…?

Chi Lin’s actions should have disrupted the neural link, at least getting her killed in the game, or even causing her to disconnect.

    Why was she still playing?!

In a corner of the viewing area, Huhu sat with his hoodie pulled over his head, eyes closed, seemingly unaffected by the chaos.

If anyone had looked closely, they would have noticed two access crystals attached to his temples.

Before the match, Chi Lin had approached him.

“You’ll be playing on my account today.”

    “Me?”

“Yes, but stay outside the live stream room. Don’t worry, no one will find out. We’re prepared.” Chi Lin’s eyes were bright. “Just focus on the game, no matter what happens. Nine Heavens is counting on you.”

  • Can We Get Married First?  111p1

    Chapter 111 p1

When Wei Zhuoning’s mother saw Lin Xiaozhi, she instinctively gripped her wheelchair.

“Zhuoning is fine,” Lin Xiaozhi tied her hair back, looking more composed. “She’s at the hospital, just some minor injuries and a fever, nothing serious. I’m here to take you to her.”

Seeing Lin Xiaozhi’s sincere expression, Wei Zhuoning’s mother finally felt relieved.

“I’ll wait for her at home.”

“Auntie, it’s a bit dangerous right now, Zhuoning is worried about you being alone, she asked me to come get you.” Lin Xiaozhi video-called Wei Zhuoning, who reassured her mother and told her to go with Xiao Zhi.

Wei Zhuoning’s fever had subsided; she was on her way to Lou Mi’s.

Wei Zhuoning’s mother rarely went out since her accident, her pride making her reluctant to show her vulnerability.

But Lin Xiaozhi was considerate and patient, putting her at ease.

Lin Xiaozhi’s father drove them to Lou Mi’s. They didn’t know what had happened, but they trusted their daughter’s judgment.

Lou Mi’s apartment was spacious, with a loft upstairs.

Before their friends and family arrived, Lou Mi hired AI cleaners, bought mattresses and bedding, and, with Chi Lin’s help, prepared the rooms.

When Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan arrived, Lou Mi said:

“Long story short, Little Lin and I are in some trouble, if you can work from home, please do, if not, I’ve hired bodyguards, take them with you. Don’t go anywhere alone.”

She relayed the same message to everyone, who were understandably worried, but Lou Mi’s calm and decisive demeanor reassured them.

The police were also stationed at Longrun Gardens, along with the community’s security system. If A Bao and Xiao V wanted to attack them again, they would need an army.

Lou Mi and Chi Lin felt guilty for disrupting everyone’s lives. Although no one blamed them, Lou Mi still sent everyone a large red envelope as compensation.

Wei Zhuoning and her mother were stunned by the amount.

Wei Zhuoning: “How many zeros is that?”

Lin Xiaozhi, peeling an orange for her, gave her a “you have no class” look.

Wei Zhuoning and her mother stayed in the loft, with Lin Xiaozhi joining them. The loft was spacious and bright, even more comfortable than their apartment in the lower district.

Wei Zhuoning’s mother didn’t feel like she was hiding; Lou Mi took good care of them, even arranging a two-week leave of absence from her factory job.

Seeing the bodyguards patrolling the community and the lively atmosphere downstairs, her initial anxiety subsided.

Her daughter was unharmed, just shaken.

Thanks to her optimistic nature and Lin Xiaozhi’s constant presence, she quickly recovered.

She became inseparable from Lin Xiaozhi, following her everywhere, her gaze never leaving her.

    Wei Zhuoning’s mother noticed everything.

Her daughter had always been independent, taking care of everything since childhood.

While other children were being pampered, her daughter was cooking and cleaning, carrying the weight of their family.

Working part-time while studying, staying up late to write stories, earning money to support them.

This was the first time she saw her daughter’s vulnerable side.

Lin Xiaozhi had offered to sleep in the study downstairs, giving the loft to Wei Zhuoning and her mother, but Wei Zhuoning insisted she stay.

Lin Xiaozhi, of course, wanted to be with her.

They added a mattress to the loft, Wei Zhuoning and Lin Xiaozhi sleeping together, her mother on the bed.

“Next time, no matter what happens, don’t push me away.”

One night, thinking her mother was asleep, Wei Zhuoning hugged Lin Xiaozhi tightly, tears silently streaming down her face.

Lin Xiaozhi smiled and wiped away her tears.

“I wasn’t thinking, I just wanted you to be safe.”

    “Let me see your back.”

    “No, it’s fine.”

    Wei Zhuoning insisted.

    Lin Xiaozhi relented.

The wound on her back, from when she had shielded Wei Zhuoning, was deep, two stitches.

Even after several days, it was still a gruesome sight.

Such a beautiful body, now bearing such a scar.

Wei Zhuoning wanted to touch it, but her hand trembled.

“Why are you crying again? I told you not to look.” Lin Xiaozhi winced slightly as she turned, but hid the pain, smiling at Wei Zhuoning.

“I want to see it,” Wei Zhuoning said. “I want to remember, I’ll never forget it.”

Lin Xiaozhi had never seen this side of Wei Zhuoning.

    Mature, serious, and devoted.

Tears still lingered on her face, but Lin Xiaozhi saw a newfound strength in her eyes.

A strength she could rely on.

Wei Zhuoning kissed Lin Xiaozhi gently, not caring that her mother was nearby.

This was the person she wanted to spend her life with.

Her mother, pretending to sleep, heard everything, a smile on her face.

Her child had finally grown up.

There was no news from A Bao for over two weeks. Perhaps because of Lou Mi and Chi Lin’s warnings, or their security measures, everything was calm.

Their friends and family continued to stay at Longrun Gardens, returning to work gradually, under constant protection from the bodyguards.

A Tou delivered some news. She had a general location for the drone, but retrieving it and recovering the data after months underwater might be difficult.

Lou Mi transferred another million yuan: “Please do your best.”

A Tou replied quickly: “I’ll deliver, or you get a full refund. By the way, someone is trying to poach A Bao and Xiao V from Gamer, did you know?”

    Lou Mi: “Yes, it’s me.”

A Tou chuckled: “Then it’s all good, I’ll update you in a week.”

    “Okay.”

Lou Mi had been planning her own esports company while considering retirement.

The company was registered, and recruitment had begun, but she had been focusing on her last season.

Now, with A Bao’s antics, she would accelerate her plans.

Besides training for the new season, she spent her time at her new company.

Lou Mi hadn’t spent much of her earnings over the years.

Her father had provided the apartment, Peng Ziyuan the car, and she rarely went out. She only recently checked her bank account balance.

She could easily poach Gamer’s entire team, or even buy the entire club.

    But that wouldn’t be fun.

She wanted to defeat A Bao and Xiao V in the summer tournament, to crush them utterly and humiliate them.

And if they stayed in the professional scene, she would defeat them every time they met.

This was her vendetta against A Bao.

Besides ruining her career, she would also send her to jail.

The summer tournament groupings were announced.

Nine Heavens and Gamer were in the same group, their first match against each other.

    The news excited the netizens.

[First match, finals level! This summer tournament is going to be wild!]

[Will Xie Buyu play? She was injured!]

[Even if she’s injured, they have Young Master Lin, and Sister Lou has already promoted two players from the second team, they’re prepared, don’t worry.]

[If Young Master Lin plays, we’ll see ex vs. current! I’m so excited!]

[Don’t be ridiculous, Sister Lou rejected A Bao publicly, remember?]

[How is a pursuer an “ex”?]

[Sister Lou only has a current, no exes, Lin is her first love, okay?]

[As if A Bao is obsessed with Lou Mi. She’s already left Nine Heavens, what more do you want?]

[Stop mentioning A Bao! Leave her alone!]

[Who’s mentioning whom? Look who’s obsessed! You think we want to talk about her?]

The online battles between Lou Mi and A Bao’s fans raged before the match even began.

Previously, Lou Mi’s supporters had the upper hand.

Now, with Chi Lin’s fans and the “Snow Vegetable” and “Lin Xue” CP fans joining the fray, A Bao’s fans were outnumbered.

Recently, there had been rumors about people close to Lou Mi and Chi Lin being attacked.

Some suggested A Bao was behind it, further tarnishing her image.

All of A Bao’s past scandals were unearthed: manipulating trainees, sleeping with fans, match-fixing, having Xiao V stream for her…

These revelations caused many of her fans to leave her fan club, even her biggest supporters switched sides.

A Tou, hired by Lou Mi, was the one who dug up all the dirt. A satisfied client was a happy client; this was her bonus service.

A Bao was also preparing for the match against Nine Heavens, training late every night.

Xiao V always stayed with her.

A Bao tried to check her phone, but Xiao V stopped her.

“What?” A Bao asked. “Are people insulting me online?”

    Xiao V didn’t answer.

A Bao reached for her phone, but Xiao V held her hand.

“Don’t look,” she said. “It’s important to stay focused before the match.”

A Bao pulled her hand away and checked her phone.

Xiao V looked at her newly short hair and remained silent.

“So that’s what you were worried about,” A Bao tossed her phone aside. “It’s all true anyway. Lou Mi must have found someone competent to dig all this up.”

A Bao smiled faintly. Xiao V gently lifted her bangs, checking the wound on her forehead.

    “Does it still hurt?”

A Bao looked at her: “No.”

    “Can I hug you?”

A Bao didn’t answer, and Xiao V embraced her.

“Kill Chi Lin for me,” A Bao said calmly. “If she dies, Lou Mi will suffer forever.”

    “Murder means life in prison.”

    “Are you afraid?”

    Xiao V didn’t answer.

On the day of the match, Lou Mi and Chi Lin headed to the live stream building early, accompanied by their bodyguards, Xie Buyu, Fu Tu, Huhu, and Zhuo Jinglan.

“…Take down A Bao immediately. Once she’s gone, their team will fall apart, Xiao V isn’t a threat. It’s a basic strategy, and they’ll be expecting it.”

Lou Mi and her teammates exchanged glances and smiled.

Xie Buyu was confident. They knew A Bao and Xiao V’s skills.

They were strong, but they had Lou Mi, and now Chi Lin, defeating them wouldn’t be a problem.

Chi Lin whispered in Lou Mi’s ear: “Your Majesty, aren’t you worried they’ll cheat? They’ve been quiet for a while, I would definitely use this opportunity for a surprise attack.”

Lou Mi: “In front of the entire world?”

“Why not? They can just switch bodies afterwards, no consequences for them.” Chi Lin’s voice lowered.

“If Your Majesty wishes, I can assassinate A Bao anytime.”

Chi Lin wasn’t bluffing. She was a skilled assassin, but with modern laws and Lou Mi’s morals, she wouldn’t act rashly without Lou Mi’s consent.

Lou Mi paused, then shook her head:

“I can’t kill anyone. I’m not like A Bao. And if you kill someone, you’ll be a fugitive.”

Chi Lin patted her hand, understanding.

She would use a different approach.

The live stream was indeed the perfect opportunity.

It was risky, but Lou Mi couldn’t back down.

“I have to play this match,” Lou Mi said. “If I retreat now, what about next time? She can always create obstacles, preventing me from facing her directly. That’s her goal.”

Chi Lin held her hand: “I understand, Your Majesty. I know what they’re planning. If they show up, I’ll take them down, once and for all.”

Lou Mi calculated the dates: “So, today is…”

“Yes.” Chi Lin explained her plan. Lou Mi was worried:

    “It’s too dangerous, you alone…”

“I have to do this, I brought them to this era. This world shouldn’t suffer because of them.”

Lou Mi, still worried, contacted the police and the security firm.

Chi Lin said, “Too many people will only make things more complicated. Who knows whose bodies they’re using? They’ll definitely make a move today; it’s our best chance. Trust me, Your Majesty.”

Lou Mi knew Chi Lin’s capabilities. Her plan was ingenious.

    But still…

    “I’m worried you’ll get hurt.”

Chi Lin smiled: “I’m not afraid of getting hurt, I’m only afraid of missing my chance. Don’t worry, Your Majesty, I’ll be careful, for you. I’ll handle this.”

There were even more fans outside the live stream building today, fueled by the A Bao incident.

    Their cheers energized Lou Mi.

  • Can We Get Married First?  110

    Chapter 110

Wei Zhuoning ran through the torrential rain, a chilling fruit knife clutched in her hand.

Raindrops streamed down the blade. She wiped her face, trying to clear her vision.

She searched the community, finding no sign of Lin Xiaozhi, hearing nothing unusual.

The world was engulfed in rain, the sound of water drowning out everything else.

She ran towards the community gate.

An abandoned security booth stood at the entrance. There was never a guard there, so even if Lin Xiaozhi had left, there wouldn’t be any witnesses.

Searching the community was manageable, but once she stepped onto the street, the world seemed endless.

Lin Xiaozhi could be anywhere, or nowhere.

Wei Zhuoning, soaked to the bone, her heavy breathing echoing in her ears, her eyes bloodshot, felt like a young animal entering a brutal hunting ground.

    Where was Lin Xiaozhi…?

    Where could she be?

As Wei Zhuoning hesitated at the intersection, the glass door of a nearby breakfast stall slid open.

    “Xiao Wei.”

Wei Zhuoning looked back. It was Zhang, the owner of the breakfast stall, a familiar face.

“Xiao Wei, that girl who often visits you went west,” Zhang said, her wrinkled face tense. “Two men were chasing her, it was terrifying. She was covered in blood, I’ve already called the police.”

Hearing the word “blood,” Wei Zhuoning ran.

There was a mobile police station to the west, a place Lin Xiaozhi would have known about.

Wei Zhuoning leaped over the guardrail, crossing the empty street.

She was never athletic, and she couldn’t believe she could run so fast.

Lin Xiaozhi must have found help from the police, she had to have.

The cars passing by were speeding, impossible to stop.

The rain had thinned the number of pedestrians, and for the first time, Wei Zhuoning hated living in this place.

The lower district was a slum, understaffed, high crime rates, cold and indifferent people, the darkest corner of the city.

Anyone who had any money and valued their life had moved out long ago.

If this had happened near Lin Xiaozhi’s home, strangers wouldn’t have been able to enter her community.

At least there she could have asked someone for help.

Wei Zhuoning cried as she ran, not knowing if she would find Lin Xiaozhi.

The fear led her to the mobile police station. Seeing the closed doors, she felt her breath catch in her throat.

There were reddish stains on the entrance, traces of blood washed by the rain.

    They seemed fresh.

It was Lin Xiaozhi, she must be nearby!

“Lin Xiaozhi——!” Wei Zhuoning screamed, using every ounce of her strength.

    “Lin Xiaozhi——!”

Her voice was shrill and piercing, somehow carrying through the wind and rain.

She gasped for breath, then screamed again.

If the attackers were still chasing Lin Xiaozhi, her cries might attract their attention, and Lin Xiaozhi might be safe!

Even though her throat burned, Wei Zhuoning continued.

After a few calls, a woman’s voice echoed from a distance:

    “I’m here! Come here!”

Wei Zhuoning froze. It was Xiao Zhi, her voice!

    Thank goodness, she was alive!

Hearing Lin Xiaozhi’s voice, her fear vanished, replaced by an exhilarating rush of relief. She ran towards the sound.

It came from the small park, the only green space in the lower district.

There were many trees, but they were overgrown and untamed, forming a dense and dark forest.

The terrain wasn’t ideal, but at least she could maneuver.

Just as she was about to enter the park, two dark figures emerged from the rain-soaked trees, approaching her.

Wei Zhuoning’s breath hitched, and she instinctively tightened her grip on the knife.

As they emerged, their faces became clearer.

    They were pale, emotionless faces.

Their eyes met, and Wei Zhuoning felt like she was looking at corpses.

Their knives were far different from her fruit knife. One swing could be lethal.

    It was them…

    It was them!

Wei Zhuoning’s heart pounded, and she instinctively stepped back.

She was terrified, she had never faced danger like this.

But thinking that if she could distract them, Lin Xiaozhi would be safe, she mustered her courage and shouted:

    “Come on! Come get me!”

The two men quickened their pace. Wei Zhuoning ran, glancing back to make sure they were following.

They were incredibly fast and already behind her!

Seeing the knife aimed at her neck, she threw herself to the ground.

The blade sliced past her head. She didn’t dare look back, scrambling to her feet and running in the opposite direction.

Small and agile, she dodged the first attack.

But there were two of them.

One of them grabbed her collar, nearly choking her. She couldn’t move freely.

Just as she was about to panic, the attacker stumbled, his grip loosening slightly. Wei Zhuoning slashed her collar with her knife and escaped.

“Run!” It was Lin Xiaozhi, who steadied her and pushed her towards the hill.

Seeing Lin Xiaozhi, tears welling up, they ran.

Lin Xiaozhi remembered a self-defense tip: When being chased, don’t hold hands, it limits your movement. Push each other, it improves speed.

Wei Zhuoning’s legs were weak, but Lin Xiaozhi’s presence gave her strength. They ran, the attackers hot on their heels.

As they were about to be caught, Lin Xiaozhi grabbed the knife from Wei Zhuoning, stopped, and pushed her forward:

    “Go!”

Wei Zhuoning slid down a small hill.

    “Run!”

Lin Xiaozhi was still shouting, but Wei Zhuoning could no longer see her.

“Xiao Zhi!” Wei Zhuoning scrambled up the hill.

    She couldn’t leave her behind.

Reaching the top, she saw Lin Xiaozhi’s back.

Lin Xiaozhi didn’t move; blood dripped from her chest.

Wei Zhuoning, dizzy, rushed over and hugged her tightly, ready to face any pain.

She would protect Lin Xiaozhi, no matter what.

    “Hu—hu—hu—”

Wei Zhuoning gasped for air, and she heard Lin Xiaozhi calling her name:

    “Zhuoning, Zhuoning?”

Lin Xiaozhi’s voice calmed her racing heart. She didn’t even feel the wounds, her arms numb from holding Lin Xiaozhi so tightly.

    “Xiao Zhi, Zhuoning.”

She didn’t even recognize Chi Lin’s voice.

“It’s okay, baby,” Lin Xiaozhi, her arm held fast, kissed her cold cheek. “We’re safe, Lin is here.”

Lin Xiaozhi finally managed to pry Wei Zhuoning’s grip loose, smiled, and looked at her dazed eyes:

    “Look at me.”

    “Xiao Zhi…”

“See, I’m fine,” Lin Xiaozhi pinched her cheek.

Wei Zhuoning looked at her, then at Chi Lin.

She looked at Chi Lin: “Your injuries! Blood!”

“I’m fine, just minor cuts, Lin arrived in time. The blood on the ground is theirs.”

Wei Zhuoning, still disbelieving, checked Lin Xiaozhi’s chest and stomach, relieved to find no serious wounds.

She looked ahead and saw two men on the ground.

They were being held down by several police officers, their faces covered in mud, but their expressions were chillingly calm.

As Wei Zhuoning looked at them, a complex, sinister smile crept across their faces.

It sent shivers down her spine.

    ***

    “Is Zhuoning asleep?”

“Yes, she’s asleep.” Lin Xiaozhi emerged from the ward, speaking to Chi Lin and Lou Mi.

“You should rest too, this was terrifying.” Lou Mi had also rushed over but hadn’t arrived in time to see Lin Xiaozhi almost get killed.

If not for Chi Lin, Lin Xiaozhi might be dead.

But thanks to Lin Xiaozhi’s quick thinking, she and Wei Zhuoning were both safe.

They were taken to the hospital for checkups. Wei Zhuoning only had some bruises, but Lin Xiaozhi had deep cuts on her back and arm (two stitches each) and a severely sprained ankle.

Wei Zhuoning had developed a high fever from the shock, and Lin Xiaozhi had managed to calm her and put her to sleep before coming out.

She didn’t dare close the door, afraid of another attack or Wei Zhuoning waking up.

She stood by the door, visible to Wei Zhuoning, speaking quietly to Chi Lin and Lou Mi.

“Why were you here?” Lin Xiaozhi, despite the trauma, was still composed. “Did you know something?”

Chi Lin glanced at the departing police officers: “Xie Buyu and Fu Tu were also attacked. I was worried about you and Zhuoning, so I came here. I tried calling you, but no one answered.”

“They were attacked too?” Lin Xiaozhi, despite her intelligence, was still shaken. “Crazy fans? Revenge?”

“It’s complicated.” Lou Mi handed her a cup of coffee.

Chi Lin: “Your Majesty, watch over Zhuoning, Xiao Zhi, come with me.”

Lin Xiaozhi, seeing Chi Lin’s serious expression, knew things were worse than she imagined.

    ***

The private hospital was owned by Lin Xiaozhi’s family. She had arranged a private room in the restaurant for her and Chi Lin.

Chi Lin quickly explained the situation.

Lin Xiaozhi was silent for a long time after hearing everything.

“So, they’re attacking people close to you to steal our bodies?”

“Possibly. It seems they can’t directly choose specific targets for soul swapping, there must be limitations.”

“But they were merciless, it felt like they wanted to kill us, not just steal our bodies.”

Chi Lin wasn’t surprised: “Even corpses can be used for soul transmigration, and they’re more obedient.”

Lin Xiaozhi, usually fearless, shivered, her face paling.

“I’m sorry, Xiao Zhi,” Chi Lin said sincerely, “for involving you in this.”

Lin Xiaozhi shook her head: “It’s not your fault. You protected us. But…”

Chi Lin and Lou Mi had already planned: “Move in with us for a while. We’re worried about your safety. We can look out for each other.”

Chi Lin took Lin Xiaozhi’s hand.

Lin Xiaozhi saw the tears in her eyes, she was genuinely worried.

She hadn’t seen Chi Lin show such concern for anyone before.

Chi Lin’s offer gave Lin Xiaozhi a sense of security. She knew Chi Lin’s skills; she had subdued two attackers within ten moves. With Chi Lin there, their safety wasn’t a concern.

“We’ll intrude for a while, I probably can’t hide this from my parents, I’ll get some people to protect us.” Lin Xiaozhi said. “I need to go get Zhuoning’s mom, she must be frantic.”

    “You’re injured, I’ll go.”

    “Thanks, Lin.”

Lou Mi contacted a top security firm and hired twenty bodyguards, some to protect Lou Lixing and Peng Ziyuan, others to escort Xie Buyu and Fu Tu to their home.

Lou Mi video-called Xie Buyu: “Have Sister Lan and Huhu come too, be careful. It’s fine, we have plenty of room.”

She also called her grandparents, explaining everything calmly. They didn’t ask questions, trusting her judgment.

After making all the arrangements, Lou Mi rubbed her eyes.

Everyone close to her was being threatened, and she was furious!

She had blocked A Bao’s contact information long ago. After a moment of thought, she took out her Return to Jianghu access crystal.

A message, addressed to A Bao:

Our conflict is between us. Why involve innocent people? If you hate me, come for me, I’ll be waiting.

A pale hand crumpled the message, then unfolded it, rereading it.

Even in digital form, every word was hers.

A Bao smelled the message, smiling: “Her scent.”

Xiao V sat beside her, staring at the seemingly endless staircase below them.

A Bao tore the message into pieces and ate it.

“So sweet,” she leaned against Xiao V’s shoulder, content.

A Bao hadn’t replied. Chi Lin returned.

    “Where’s Lin Xiaozhi?”

    “Her parents arrived.”

    “Did you tell her everything?”

    “Yes.”

Lou Mi squeezed her hand, feeling exhausted, and sat down.

    “Your Majesty.”

Chi Lin knelt before her, gently massaging her head to relieve the stress.

“It’s not your fault,” Chi Lin said. “You didn’t do anything wrong. Your Majesty…”

Chi Lin said firmly, “No matter what happens, remember, I’m here. I’ll protect you.”

Lou Mi looked at her, stroking her cold cheek:

“I’m just tired, dealing with this after a long trip. We’ll protect each other. Little Lin, I’m not afraid with you here, but you’re my precious one, my everything. You must stay safe.”

The constant threats to those close to her had made Lou Mi, usually strong and carefree, become more sentimental.

But her anxiety quickly turned into concern.

Lou Mi made all the arrangements, contacting friends to investigate A Bao and Xiao V.

Wei Zhuoning woke up with a fever but was conscious. The police came again, taking her statement.

While the police interviewed Wei Zhuoning, Lou Mi and Chi Lin waited outside. A tall woman in a light gray trench coat approached Lou Mi:

    “Lou Zong.”

Lou Mi patted Chi Lin, signaling her to leave for a moment.

“The police are taking this seriously, but it won’t be resolved quickly.”

A detective from A Tou’s private investigation firm, at Lou Mi’s request, came to the hospital with some important information.

    “Why?”

“The two men found at the park… they’re dead.”

A Tou showed Lou Mi a video from the police station’s security camera.

“They died at the police station.”

    “How did they die?”

“We don’t know. They were only handcuffed, no one touched them, their injuries weren’t fatal, they just died.” A Tou, eating a sandwich, tried to appear casual.

“The forensic examiner said they had been dead for several days. They brought in corpses. The police were shocked.”

Lou Mi’s expression was calm; she simply nodded and took a sip of coffee.

A Tou finished her sandwich and sent the video to Lou Mi:

“I have a lead on the drone. Give me some time, I’ll deliver.”

Lou Mi transferred a million yuan to A Tou: “Thank you.”

“I like decisive people. I’ll contact you when I have news.”

Lou Mi knew A Tou was skilled, a classmate of Shi Yue’s.

She charged a lot, but if the information existed, she could find it.

Lou Mi couldn’t use soul transmigration as evidence for the police.

But every action leaves a trace. Don’t think you can hide forever.

Lou Mi crushed her can and threw it into a trash can. Bullseye.

She logged into Return to Jianghu. A Bao hadn’t responded to her message.

She single-handedly destroyed A Bao’s guild, retrieving all her stolen equipment.

She had once considered A Bao her apprentice, ignoring her attacks.

But now, A Bao was truly crazy, and Lou Mi wouldn’t tolerate it anymore.

She wouldn’t let A Bao have anything that belonged to her.

A Bao’s guild was completely emptied, Lou Mi didn’t even bother using an alt account. She used her main account.

The incident made headlines. Netizens said HighTowerMiyuki was taking revenge on Xie Buyu and Fu Tu.

A Bao didn’t care; the game items meant nothing to her. Today, she was visiting her mother at a nursing home.

Arriving, she found her mother wasn’t in her room.

A Bao, holding a bouquet of flowers, stopped a nurse.

“Didn’t your friend take her out?” the nurse asked. “The woman who was here earlier said she was taking her for a walk in the garden.”

    Here earlier?

Three years ago, Lou Mi had brought her here. The nurse remembered her.

A Bao threw the flowers down and ran to the garden.

She saw Lou Mi pushing her mother towards the woods.

“Stop——!” A Bao screamed, but a strong force pinned her to the ground.

She struggled, but she couldn’t move.

    Chi Lin’s cold voice echoed:

“If you cause trouble again, it won’t be so easy. You’ll answer for your actions.”

Chi Lin grabbed her hair, sliced it off, and pushed her forward. A Bao hit her head and fell unconscious.

She woke up dazed and called out for her mother.

    “Mommy?”

Her mother, in her wheelchair, was sitting alone in the woods, unharmed.

Her mother had dementia. She pointed at her forehead: “Broken.”

A Bao wiped the blood from her forehead and smiled: “Did you eat well today?”

Her mother ignored her and continued playing with a doll.

It was the doll Lou Mi had given her, returned now by Lou Mi.

A Bao sneered and threw the doll into the grass.

  • Can We Get Married First?  109

    Chapter 109

Lou Mi and Chi Lin had just arrived home. Chi Lin took Tiger for a walk in the park, petting the increasingly chubby dog, when Lou Mi received a video call from Zhuo Jinglan.

“What happened? An attack? Crazy fans?”

“I don’t know, I just got the news, I’m heading to the hospital now.”

Zhuo Jinglan, in her car, looked utterly distraught.

The new season was approaching. Zhuo Jinglan hadn’t approved of Lou Mi’s vacation.

Shouldn’t they stay put before the competition? What if something happened? She couldn’t be everywhere at once.

Zhuo Jinglan had been in constant contact with them throughout their vacation, worried sick.

Everything had been fine in N City, but something terrible happened on their way back.

“Where are they injured? Are Xie Buyu and Fu Tu okay?” Lou Mi, her suitcase still unpacked, rushed out the door.

“Fu Tu is fine, Xie Buyu shielded her, got a deep cut on her arm.”

“Huh? Xie Buyu shielded Fu Tu? The healer tanking for the tank?” Lou Mi attempted a joke to lighten the mood and prevent Zhuo Jinglan from panicking further. She was always worried, and this news, before such an important competition, would probably make her lose even more hair.

Zhuo Jinglan’s lips twitched: “Stop joking, are you coming to the hospital?”

“Yes, I’ll tell Chi Lin first.”

    “Okay, be careful.”

    “I will.”

Chi Lin had taken Tiger for a walk and left her phone on the coffee table. Lou Mi had to inform her in person.

Chi Lin was worried: “I’m coming with you.”

“No, you just got back from a long trip, you need to rest.”

“No,” Chi Lin insisted. “We don’t know the attacker’s motive. The summer tournament is coming, they might be targeting Nine Heavens. I need to be there.”

    Lou Mi reluctantly agreed.

They met Zhuo Jinglan in the hospital parking lot and went upstairs together.

Xie Buyu’s arm had already been stitched up. They were sitting in a private lounge area, Fu Tu feeding her.

“I don’t want spinach,” Xie Buyu said, eyeing the beef.

Fu Tu coaxed her: “Eat some spinach first, then beef, okay?”

    “I really hate spinach.”

    “Fine, beef first, then spinach.”

    Xie Buyu happily ate.

Fu Tu gently wiped the sauce from her mouth with a napkin.

Lou Mi and the others, drenched in sweat, stood five meters away, hesitant to approach.

    What a heartwarming scene!

Zhuo Jinglan looked at them, puzzled: “What’s going on? Did they fall in love after Xie shielded Fu Tu?”

Xie Buyu retorted: “We were already together before the attack.”

    “What?!”

Lou Mi smacked Zhuo Jinglan: “Is this the time for gossip?! What happened? The wound? Who attacked you?”

Xie Buyu showed her four stitches: “A minor injury, I’ll be fine before the summer tournament.”

Xie Buyu, although not a fashionista, was beautiful, with long limbs and fair skin. Her fans were obsessed with her legs and arms.

Now, her beautiful arm bore a gruesome scar. Even with modern technology, the discoloration would remain.

Fu Tu was heartbroken, silently crying.

“Oh dear, crying again,” Xie Buyu said, gently wiping away her tears. “I told you it’s fine.”

    “It’s all my fault…”

“How is it your fault? You don’t even know them, some deranged psychopath, that’s all.”

Xie Buyu recounted their encounter at the mall. Zhuo Jinglan shuddered:

    “So terrifying, completely random violence!”

Lou Mi: “Was it caught on camera?”

Fu Tu: “Yes, the police are investigating, it’s also on the news.”

    “Let me see.”

Fu Tu played the video for Lou Mi. It was terrifying.

Lou Mi and Chi Lin watched together. The blade was over five inches long, aimed directly at Fu Tu’s heart. If Xie hadn’t intervened, Fu Tu could have been killed.

The attackers were tall and muscular, their faces unsettling, the enhanced images creating a bizarre feel.

    [Don’t scare me!]

[Hope Fu Tu and Xie Buyu are okay!]

[Please don’t affect the summer tournament!]

    ***

After the video, Lou Mi and Chi Lin exchanged glances and left the lounge area to talk privately in the hallway.

“Your Majesty, any thoughts?” Chi Lin, noticing Lou Mi’s contemplation, asked, “Do you know those two?”

“No, but I have a guess.”

    “What?”

“When we went to Dayuan, we encountered those rebels, the Imperial Guards, the Right Commander.” Lou Mi, having forgotten those events, said, “Tell me everything that happened, every detail.”

Chi Lin had an excellent memory. Recounting the events, even those months ago, was easy for her.

Lou Mi’s face darkened: “You were injured, and your blood sprayed on their faces.”

    Chi Lin felt uneasy: “Yes…”

“And when we fell off the cliff, they tried to grab us, right?”

“I remember, but I didn’t have time to think.”

“So, if they swallowed your blood and fell into the sea, they could have traveled through the abyss to our time.”

    “Yes… possible.”

    Silence.

“I don’t remember much, but I do remember a strange sensation in the abyss,” Lou Mi said. “When I went back to get your package, I sensed something unusual. Like someone was there.”

“Your Majesty thinks it was them?”

Lou Mi nodded: “They came to this era and took over other bodies.”

“But if it’s Cheng Xuan and Liang Zheng, why attack Xie Buyu and Fu Tu?”

“Their target is us, without a doubt. Losing Fu Tu would jeopardize the summer tournament.” Lou Mi’s face was dark. “And I don’t think Fu Tu is their last target. We’re high-profile and unprepared, thinking this era is safe. Maybe they discovered our identities, and they’re just trying to make things difficult for us.”

“I understand, but if they’re rebels, they’re after money and power, why bother with us in another dimension? If I hadn’t been searching for Your Majesty and had accidentally landed in this peaceful world, I might have just enjoyed myself, forgotten my worries. Cheng Xuan and Liang Zheng betrayed their country, risking their lives for a better future. They must have taken over other bodies, with established social status. Why risk it all for more trouble?”

“You’re right,” Lou Mi said. “But have you considered that even if they want to enjoy this world, they might not have the chance?”

Chi Lin pondered this for a moment: “You mean they can’t adapt to this era?”

“They’re supposed to be prodigies in both martial arts and academics.”

“They’re soldiers, not scholars, they probably can’t even read.”

“Even you took time to adapt, and you were a minor with family support. If they ended up in ordinary families, they might not survive. And if they don’t survive, what do you think might happen?”

    “What do you mean?”

Lou Mi’s eyes narrowed: “Remember A Bao and Xiao V, the ones who separated your soul from your body?”

    “Your Majesty thinks it’s them?”

“It feels so familiar, this sudden danger, exactly like last time. And Xiao V is particularly suspicious.” Lou Mi said. “I heard that her grandmother was into mysticism, and that she did things for money. I visited her house, a secluded villa on a mountaintop, surrounded by a vast cemetery.”

    “A cemetery…”

“Yes, her family keeps to themselves, except for A Bao. They’ve known each other since childhood. If A Bao hadn’t become a professional gamer, Xiao V wouldn’t have either, given her personality.”

“So, Xiao V is incredibly intelligent, she became a professional gamer just to accompany her friend, and joined Nine Heavens.”

“Yes, she’s very dangerous, with access to many dark arts. I thought her family was just eccentric, but thinking about it now, it’s terrifying. The connections between them and A Bao are highly suspicious.”

“What was the police’s conclusion about the highway incident?”

“I’ve been following it. The police suspected them, they were even interrogated, but there wasn’t enough evidence.”

Chi Lin nodded: “They were well-prepared. Your Majesty thinks A Bao and Xiao V found Cheng Xuan and Liang Zheng, bribed them, and used them?”

“It sounds plausible. But they’ve been identified on camera, making future attacks more difficult.”

Chi Lin suddenly grabbed Lou Mi’s sleeve, her face even paler.

“Even if they were identified, they wouldn’t be afraid of surveillance. Xiao V can switch souls, she can definitely control others. There must be limitations, but after committing a crime, they can just switch bodies, making it impossible to trace them. We’re out in the open, they’re in the shadows. And if they use the bodies of people we know, and hide their identities, how can Your Majesty tell?”

Lou Mi’s heart sank. It was a chilling realization.

It was summer, and a sudden downpour began.

Lin Xiaozhi checked the weather forecast; the lower district would be flooded for at least two hours.

Wei Zhuoning’s apartment was in a narrow alleyway; taxis couldn’t enter, so they stopped across the street.

Lin Xiaozhi, determined to walk Wei Zhuoning home, looked for an umbrella in the taxi’s trunk but found it empty. Someone had already taken it.

“I’ll be fine,” Wei Zhuoning said. “I’ll just go in myself.”

Others could just call their families for help. But Wei Zhuoning’s mother had mobility issues, and she didn’t want to trouble her in this heavy rain.

“No,” Lin Xiaozhi took off her jacket. “You’ll get sick. My jacket is waterproof, come here.”

Lin Xiaozhi got out first, holding the jacket over Wei Zhuoning’s head, protecting her from the rain. She also took Wei Zhuoning’s suitcase.

Lin Xiaozhi was tall, and the jacket provided decent protection.

Wei Zhuoning quickly got out of the car and stepped under the jacket, the rain pattering on the fabric, some water droplets splashing on her face. Seeing Lin Xiaozhi’s smiling face, she felt comforted.

“Let’s go.” Lin Xiaozhi shielded Wei Zhuoning from the rain, she pulled the suitcase herself, and they walked close together towards the apartment.

Reaching the entrance, Wei Zhuoning was only slightly damp, her shoes wet, but her clothes and hair mostly dry, thanks to Lin Xiaozhi’s careful protection. Lin Xiaozhi herself was completely drenched.

“Go on up,” Lin Xiaozhi said, her wet hair clinging to her face, yet her smile sweet. “Wash your shoes, take a hot bath, don’t catch a cold. I’ll come back tomorrow to help you study.”

As Lin Xiaozhi was about to leave, Wei Zhuoning stopped her:

“Your clothes are soaked, you’ll catch a cold.”

“I’ll wait in the car, I’ll be home soon.”

“It’ll take an hour to get back.” Wei Zhuoning said. “Come inside and change.”

Lin Xiaozhi looked surprised: “Come inside? Now? I might be intruding.”

Wei Zhuoning took Lin Xiaozhi’s hand, noticing her cold, wet fingers:

“Don’t be silly… If you get sick, I’ll worry.”

There was no elevator. This surprised Lin Xiaozhi. Even twenty years ago, most buildings had elevators.

Wei Zhuoning insisted on carrying her suitcase, but Lin Xiaozhi refused:

“Save your strength, you can’t even push it. Besides, it’s my stuff, I’ll carry it for you. Be good.”

Lin Xiaozhi climbed the stairs, her breath coming in short gasps from carrying the suitcase.

Wei Zhuoning’s apartment was on the sixth floor, and even Lin Xiaozhi, strong as she was, was struggling by the time they reached the top.

“These stairs… are so high,” Lin Xiaozhi said, catching her breath. “Wait, is your mom home?”

“She should be, she rarely goes out.”

“Give me a minute to compose myself… then we’ll go in.” Lin Xiaozhi used her phone as a mirror to check her appearance.

    “You’re already perfect.”

“No, it’s my first time meeting your mom, I have to look my best.” Lin Xiaozhi, satisfied with her reflection, put away her phone.

“Let’s meet your future mother-in-law,” she said playfully. Wei Zhuoning, seeing her enthusiasm, didn’t mention that her mother’s impression of Lin Xiaozhi had already shifted from “cute class president” to “precocious girl who sends pornographic videos.”

But she had to introduce Lin Xiaozhi to her mother eventually.

She might as well get it over with… Lin Xiaozhi was clever, she would figure it out.

“Mom,” Wei Zhuoning said, opening the door, “I’m back.”

A woman’s voice replied, and they heard the sound of a wheelchair approaching.

    “Zhuoning?”

A pleasant, youthful-sounding voice, not what one would expect from a mother.

But then, Lin Xiaozhi thought, Wei Zhuoning’s mother had her at 18, she was only 36 now.

Wei Zhuoning opened the door and pushed the suitcase inside.

“You’re back,” her mother said, noticing the unfamiliar girl.

As she and Lin Xiaozhi exchanged glances, Lin Xiaozhi flashed a charming smile and greeted her sweetly: “Auntie.”

Lin Xiaozhi knew this smile charmed older people. It had won her over countless relatives at family gatherings.

Her mother paused, then, seemingly realizing something, moved her wheelchair to make more room:

“Oh, it’s Xiao Lin, come in, you’re all wet.”

Wei Zhuoning, rarely seeing her mother so cheerful, knew instantly she liked Lin Xiaozhi.

Her mother’s warmth made Wei Zhuoning even more shy.

Lin Xiaozhi said, “Sorry to intrude, Zhuoning said I could change here.”

    “Come in, come in.”

Just as Lin Xiaozhi was about to enter, two men descended from upstairs.

Lin Xiaozhi noticed them out of the corner of her eye.

    Upstairs?

    Wasn’t this the top floor?

    She glanced upwards.

Two muscular, short men in identical black t-shirts, their square faces and intense gazes radiating danger.

Their right hands were hidden behind their backs, and they were watching her and Wei Zhuoning.

“Zhuoning,” Lin Xiaozhi whispered, her hand on Wei Zhuoning’s back, “go inside.”

    “Huh?”

One of the men suddenly raised a knife and lunged at Wei Zhuoning’s back. Lin Xiaozhi, acting instantly, pushed Wei Zhuoning into the apartment, causing her to fall.

She tried to follow, but her action had saved Wei Zhuoning, leaving her exposed.

Without thinking, Lin Xiaozhi slammed the door shut. Wei Zhuoning, dazed from the fall, heard the outer door slam shut.

    “Don’t come out!”

A loud crash was followed by Lin Xiaozhi’s desperate cry.

“Zhuoning!” Wei Zhuoning’s mother’s face paled. She tried to help Wei Zhuoning, but stumbled.

“What happened? What’s going on?” She hadn’t seen anything clearly. Wei Zhuoning’s mind was a blur.

What had happened outside? Why had Lin Xiaozhi pushed her?

She had heard footsteps from upstairs. Who was it?

She had never heard Lin Xiaozhi yell like that.

The scream sent chills down Wei Zhuoning’s spine.

“Mom, don’t come out! Stay here!”

She was terrified, she didn’t know what awaited them, but she wouldn’t leave Lin Xiaozhi alone.

She wouldn’t let anything happen to her!

Wei Zhuoning grabbed a fruit knife from the table and opened the inner door, then the outer door.

Her mother tried to stop her but couldn’t. She ran out, seeing no one in the hallway, only bloody footprints.

The sight made her dizzy, her skin paling, her heart almost stopping.

A neighbor peeked out: “What’s going on? Did someone get killed?”

Wei Zhuoning, regaining her composure, saw that the bloody footprints led downstairs. She told her mother to call the police and sprinted downstairs, ignoring her mother’s pleas.

The rain washed away the blood.

There was almost no one outside. She couldn’t find any witnesses.

    Where was Lin Xiaozhi?

She wanted to cry, her body trembling, but she knew she had to stay calm.

She remembered Lin Xiaozhi’s words about calming down during exams: “Take a deep breath, then let it out. Like this, hu—hu—stay calm, you can do this.”

Taking deep breaths, she calmed down, and her mind started functioning again.

That was a dead end. Lin Xiaozhi had been there before, she knew the area.

So she must have run to the right!

Wei Zhuoning ran into the rain.

  • Can We Get Married First?  108p2

    Chapter 108p2

“Be good, I’ll be busy for a bit, entertain yourself.” After delivering the sweet treat, Wei Zhuoning started writing furiously, determined to defend her favorite CP!

Chi Lin and Wei Zhuoning engaged in a silent battle throughout the flight. As the plane landed, Chi Lin finally finished posting her latest story, rubbing her tired eyes.

“Your eyes hurt? Don’t rub them, it’s dirty, let me see.” Lou Mi took her hand.

“Look at your red eyes, you’ve been staring at your phone the entire time, what’s so important?”

Lou Mi’s tone held a hint of jealousy and annoyance. Chi Lin, oblivious, nodded earnestly:

    “It’s very important.”

    Lou Mi: “…”

How important? More important than her? Important enough to ignore her for two hours?

Lou Mi had wanted to act spoiled, but Chi Lin’s obliviousness made her even angrier.

“Come here.” She took out some hand sanitizer. “You’ve been touching your phone for so long, and you’re rubbing your eyes, you’ll get an infection.”

Chi Lin, noticing Lou Mi’s frown and her sharp tone, asked:

“Is Your Majesty angry with me?”

Lou Mi glared at her: “What do you think? How old are you, Lin Jie, still acting like a child and making me worry?”

The plane came to a stop, and the doors opened. Lou Mi reached for her bag.

As they got off the plane and headed towards the terminal, Lou Mi held Chi Lin’s hand, but Chi Lin still sensed her displeasure.

    “Your Majesty.”

Chi Lin wanted to explain, but Lou Mi interrupted:

“What were you doing on the plane?”

Chi Lin hesitated, then remained silent.

“Oh, still not telling me.” Lou Mi glanced at her. “Fine, then think about how to appease me.”

    Chi Lin sighed.

Lou Mi cursed inwardly. She was sighing?

Ignoring her the entire time, and now sighing, as if she was being unreasonable?

Fine, she would show Chi Lin what unreasonable truly meant!

Lou Mi’s heart ached; she almost let go of Chi Lin’s hand.

    But she couldn’t.

As they reached the baggage claim area, Chi Lin took both their suitcases and placed them on a levitating cart.

“Your Majesty,” Chi Lin, pulling the cart with one hand and tugging at Lou Mi’s sleeve with the other, leaned her head on Lou Mi’s shoulder.

Lou Mi glanced at her, still silent.

“Your Majesty, I was just jealous,” Chi Lin confessed, blushing.

“Huh?” Lou Mi was taken aback.

Chi Lin sighed again, defeated, and handed her the phone.

    “I couldn’t help it.”

Lou Mi took the phone and quickly glanced at the screen.

Her initial frown slowly turned into a smile.

She finally couldn’t help but laugh.

“What is this?” Lou Mi tapped Chi Lin’s head. “You were busy with this the entire time? Did you write all of this?”

It seemed Lou Mi knew about the discovery of Dayuan. Her voice was loud and unrestrained.

“Your Majesty!” Chi Lin panicked, trying to shush her.

Lou Mi, tears welling up from laughter, teased her: “Such passionate scenes in the deserted Taihua Palace, Little Lin, you have quite the imagination.”

Chi Lin’s face burned. She turned and walked away, pushing the cart.

“Hey, Little Lin, Little Lin!” Lou Mi, surprised by her sudden departure, quickly chased after her.

Chi Lin was fast, fueled by embarrassment, and Lou Mi, panting, only caught up because Chi Lin slowed down, not wanting to make her run too much.

    “I’m sorry… I’m sorry, don’t be angry.”

Lou Mi’s earlier sprint could have rivaled a professional athlete, her speed whipping several passersby’s hair into the air.

Before even catching her breath, she started calling Chi Lin “Lin Jie,” showering her with affection until Chi Lin finally turned around.

“How could Your Majesty say those things out loud?”

Chi Lin’s writing was actually quite subtle, and Lou Mi hadn’t revealed any specific details, but Chi Lin’s face was still burning. She was so adorable…

But she hadn’t been this shy when she saw those explicit Lin Xue fanfics.

    Could it be…?

Lou Mi suddenly understood and whispered in Chi Lin’s ear: “Were those, real? Not just fiction?”

Chi Lin closed her eyes and nodded.

    “Han Lie is you?”

    “That’s my courtesy name.”

“So…” Lou Mi’s eyes widened, finally understanding Chi Lin’s embarrassment.

It wasn’t fanfiction, but a memoir!

“What…?” Chi Lin, under Lou Mi’s intense gaze, felt her cheeks burning.

Lou Mi took her phone: “I need to reread this, carefully.”

Chi Lin: “What… Your Majesty! Don’t read it!”

They continued their playful banter as they said goodbye to their friends and got into a taxi.

After they left, the taxi line at the airport grew longer.

Xie Buyu and Fu Tu, at the front of the line, heard the airport staff coordinating with the taxi company to dispatch more cars.

The crowd behind them was getting restless. They stood side by side, Fu Tu watching Xie Buyu as she sent voice messages.

    “I’m back.”

“Okay, okay, tonight then, same place.”

“No, just a few friends. No, just my teammates.”

    ***

Fu Tu listened silently. When the next batch of taxis arrived, Xie Buyu told Fu Tu to get in first.

    “Aren’t you coming?”

    “I’m not going your way.”

    “Where are you going?”

Xie Buyu, surprised by the question, hesitated: “A friend invited me, I’m going north.”

She knew Fu Tu lived south, the opposite direction.

“It’s fine, get in, I’ll drop you off first.”

Fu Tu put her luggage in the trunk.

Xie Buyu joined her, glancing at her.

“What?” Fu Tu noticed her gaze.

“Do you want to come with me?” Xie Buyu asked, getting in the car. “To meet my friend.”

    “Huh?”

“Some high school classmates are visiting, want to join us?”

Fu Tu hesitated: “What would I even do there? How would you introduce me?”

Xie Buyu, seeing her nervousness, smiled and pulled her closer:

“You’ve been clinging to me all break, I thought something was up. Did you want to be my girlfriend all along? I can introduce you as my girlfriend, how about that? Hey, what the—”

Before she could finish, Fu Tu pinched her arm hard, making her yelp in pain.

    “What the hell?!”

Fu Tu, almost in tears, grabbed her luggage, got out of the car, and jumped into another taxi.

Xie Buyu, utterly confused, followed her:

“What’s going on? Did I say something wrong?”

“Find someone else to be your girlfriend!” Fu Tu pushed her away, and the taxi drove off.

    Xie Buyu stood there, dumbfounded.

Wasn’t that what Fu Tu wanted? To make their relationship official? She felt the same way.

Had she phrased it wrong, making it sound like a joke?

Xie Buyu rubbed her aching head. This little ancestor was so difficult, even off the court.

Well, she had always been the dominant one, even as bed buddies, Fu Tu had always catered to her every whim.

Fu Tu was younger, but she was genuinely caring.

Xie Buyu had noticed her feelings, and she had just indirectly confessed.

She got in her taxi, switched to manual driving, and followed Fu Tu’s car.

She had rarely spoken seriously in her life, and now, when it mattered most, she had messed it up.

Was that silly girl upset now…?

Xie Buyu followed her car, watching as she exited the highway and stopped by the roadside.

Xie Buyu prepared herself mentally, ready to get out and talk to her.

Just as she was about to, Fu Tu drove into a nearby mall.

    Xie Buyu quickly followed.

In the underground parking lot, Fu Tu parked her car. Xie Buyu’s car was assigned to a different section. Seeing Fu Tu over a hundred meters away, she hurried towards her.

After a few steps, she saw two tall men approaching Fu Tu.

They were both over six feet tall, wearing tight-fitting shirts and jeans, their muscular physiques almost bursting out of their clothes.

They had shaved heads, grim expressions, and their eyes were fixed on Fu Tu.

Fu Tu, head down, seemingly lost in thought, walked towards the elevators, oblivious to their presence.

They were about to collide, and Fu Tu still hadn’t noticed them.

Xie Buyu, sensing danger, rushed towards Fu Tu.

    “Fu Tu!”

Xie Buyu called out to her. Fu Tu turned around, and just then, one of the men pulled out a knife and lunged at her.

Xie Buyu jumped in front of Fu Tu, shielding her. They tumbled to the ground, then quickly stood up.

The two men, surprised that their attack had failed, looked at them.

“You’re bleeding!” Fu Tu saw a long, deep gash on Xie Buyu’s arm, blood dripping onto the ground.

“What’s going on?” An AI security guard, alerted by the commotion, approached them.

    The two men quickly left.

“Who were they?” Xie Buyu asked.

“I don’t know,” Fu Tu’s face was pale. “I’ve never seen them before.”
