Su Mingxiu’s eyes widened slightly.
The scent of cumin roasting over fire reached her nose. Seeing Gui Mian flapping her limbs, preparing to roll around on the willow branch to marinate herself more evenly, she finally couldn’t help but speak again: “Stop fooling around!”
Her cold voice stopped the little girl’s movements.
Gui Mian couldn’t discern her emotions and thought she was angry, so she immediately froze. However, the porcelain jar in her hand was still tilted, and the aroma in the room intensified, the scent of cumin and pepper almost clinging to Su Mingxiu’s robes.
Because Gui Mian had been too preoccupied with the succubus’s tricks earlier, she hadn’t set up a barrier. Now, a voice came from outside, someone drunkenly shouting: “Go check next door, what are they roasting? It smells so good!”
The errand boy from the theater, following the order, reached the room and thought with confusion, he remembered that this room had no guests, could it be a thief?
With this thought in mind, the boy pushed open the door without hesitation. He was met with a frosty face standing by the carved window, a fire burning in front of her, and… a person roasting above the flames.
The boy stumbled back in fright. At first, he was stunned by the beauty with her icy skin and jade-like bones, thinking he had seen a celestial being descend to the mortal world. But then he saw that the person being roasted was clearly human, and he realized that this was no celestial being, but some kind of mountain spirit or monster.
His heel hit the threshold, and the distinguished guest next door was still urging him to name the delicious aroma. Hearing the voice, his pupils constricted, and he said with a dry throat: “They are roasting, roasting… roasting…”
Roasting a person!
Su Mingxiu’s brow twitched slightly. She instantly cast a spell on the errand boy, making his mind go blank, and he fainted without a sound.
Then, a faint mist rose outside the room, obscuring the vision of any mortals passing by. Even the drunken man who had been clamoring for food from next door instantly forgot what he had been doing.

“Master…” she asked in a slurred voice, “Am I not cooked yet?”
“Uh…” Su Mingxiu was rendered speechless by her question.
She looked at the little girl roasting above the fire with a complicated expression. Those clear and innocent eyes staring at her made it easy for one to feel trusted. She had to look away, thinking about the symptoms of the succubus love poison. She asked coldly: “Are you hot?”
Gui Mian nodded eagerly, thinking that this would make Su Mingxiu let her down.
After a while, the person who asked the question muttered about her own foolishness. She dispelled the flames with a spell, loosened the willow branch, and summoned the teacups and teapot from the nearby table, suspending them in front of Gui Mian.
The girl, released from her restraints, had messy clothes and black marks on her face, but she didn’t seem to care. She touched her face and, at Su Mingxiu’s gesture, picked up a teacup and gulped down the water in one go.
Then, a cool breeze was summoned from outside, swirling around her, instantly soothing the heat in her body. Only her face remained flushed.
“Still hot?”
Her master asked again, her words concise.
Gui Mian thought carefully, raised her hand, and compared it to her little finger. “Still this… hot.”
So.
Su Mingxiu flicked her finger, using the willow branch she had picked by the moat earlier to wrap around Gui Mian’s waist. In the next instant, the little girl was lifted and thrown out the window—
“Run three laps around the town.”
Su Mingxiu said ruthlessly.
