Chapter 36 p3: Transmigrated as the Abusive Story’s Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character(Arc End)
Even the onlookers were horrified. Xin Yao, witnessing it firsthand, was devastated.
She reached out to touch Pei Yu’s bloodied face.
But just as her fingers brushed against her skin, she hesitated, pulling her hand back.
Love was a hand reaching out, then retreating, wanting to touch, yet afraid to.
Because the countdown in her mind was still ticking away.
The time of her departure, the time of her separation from Pei Yu, was drawing near.
But as she withdrew her hand, Pei Yu grabbed it.
She held Xin Yao’s hand against her cheek, nuzzling against it, her voice soft.
“I don’t know where you’re going, but I told you…”
She looked up at Xin Yao, her eyes shining. “If you leave me, I’ll bring you back.”
As she spoke, a bright light emanated from their joined hands, starting as a soft glow, then intensifying, like starlight exploding in their palms.
And the countdown in Xin Yao’s mind stopped, then flickered, then began to increase rapidly.
Seconds, minutes, hours, then a month.
Nuan Nuan, watching from the system space, was stunned.
[Holy shit! She’s burning her lifespan! Giving you her life!]
But keeping someone who wasn’t meant to stay was costly.
A century for a year.
For every hundred years of Pei Yu’s life, Xin Yao gained one.
Xin Yao instinctively tried to pull her hand away. “Pei Yu, are you crazy?! You’re giving me your life! What about you?!”
But Pei Yu held her hand tighter, her gaze unwavering.
No one knew what she had been thinking, how she had endured those few hours without Xin Yao.
“I’ve thought about this for a long time. Humans and demons have different lifespans. One day, I’ll lose you.”
“If that day comes, Xin Yao, do you think I can live in a world without you?”
“No,” she answered her own question. “I can’t. Not even for a second.”
“So, when you leave, I’ll follow you. Then we’ll be together forever, won’t we?”
Her words, so calm yet so desperate, startled Xin Yao.
She had never imagined Pei Yu thinking such thoughts. “We can’t do that!”
“So,” Pei Yu squeezed her hand, “this is perfect.”
“We can be together, grow old together, and leave together. Isn’t that wonderful?”
As Pei Yu spoke, the light in their joined hands faded, the countdown in Xin Yao’s mind stopping at a seemingly auspicious number: 66.
Xin Yao had 66 years left.
Nuan Nuan, in the system space, slumped back in her chair, exhausted.
After a moment, she stood up, lit a cigarette, and looked out the window.
Well, while unconventional, it was a happy ending.
Xin Yao couldn’t speak, tears streaming down her face as she touched Pei Yu’s cheek, her fingers trembling.
Pei Yu, however, was smiling, her hand holding Xin Yao’s tightly, her eyes soft and warm.
The one who always laughed was now crying, and the one who never smiled was now smiling. Their roles had reversed.
Pei Yu, still kneeling, gently lifted Xin Yao into her arms and carried her outside.
The snow had stopped, and the crowd standing outside the hut, silent and watchful, turned to look at them.
Pei Yu walked past Li Henqing, glancing at him sideways.
“If you want to kill me, feel free to try.”
Li Henqing’s eyes flickered, the memory of the snake demon’s smile, and her tears, flashing through his mind.
He scoffed.
“A cursed child without a lifespan. How long do you think you’ll last?”
His chubby disciple muttered, “Master, are you sure it’s not because you couldn’t beat her?”
Li Henqing: “Shut up!”
Despite his harsh words, he watched as Xin Yao and Pei Yu walked away.
After a long while, the once chaotic mountaintop returned to its usual peaceful silence.
His disciples began to clean up the mess, but Li Henqing remained standing there, motionless.
He looked up at the sky, remembering Pei Yu’s tears.
“But Master, I don’t even know how to cry.”
“Should demons be killed? Should those born with evil be destroyed? What is evil, anyway?”
“What is our true path?”
Meanwhile, Xin Yao and Pei Yu weren’t alone on their journey down the mountain.
Halfway down, they encountered Lao Xin, still struggling to climb the mountain.
Before he could even join the fray, he was informed that it was over, his mind still reeling from the news.
Then, seeing Xin Yao, covered in blood, in Pei Yu’s arms, he burst into tears.
“My daughter! You’re bleeding! I wish I could take your pain!”
Pei Shuangshuang, standing behind him, couldn’t help but retort, “That’s my daughter’s blood!”
Xin Wanyin, her energy seemingly depleted after slapping Li Henqing, started complaining.
“Liu Yue, I can’t walk anymore!”
Liu Yue: “Oh.”
Xin Wanyin glared at her. “Why does my sister get to be carried, but I have to walk? I’m your boss!”
“Ten thousand yuan for a piggyback ride.”
“You’re robbing me!”
Their bickering made Xin Yao’s head ache.
She hadn’t wanted Pei Yu to carry her, knowing she was injured, but Pei Yu had insisted, refusing to let her go.
Xin Yao, nestled in Pei Yu’s arms, looked back at the group following them.
“How did they all end up together? And they know about you now. Is that okay?”
“It’s fine.”
Pei Yu remembered waking up that morning and not finding Xin Yao by her side. She had almost lost her mind.
Desperate, she had contacted everyone she could think of, even Pei Shuangshuang.
Xin Wanyin, hearing that her sister was in danger, had insisted on coming, bringing Liu Yue and Lao Xin with her.
The only surprise had been Pei Shuangshuang joining them.
Hearing Pei Yu recount her fear and panic, Xin Yao’s eyes softened, and she kissed Pei Yu gently.
“You’re so good to me, wife.”
Then, as if remembering something, she leaned closer, her voice a soft whisper.
“Baby, is your… tail still there?”
Pei Yu smiled, her lips brushing against Xin Yao’s ear.
“Don’t worry. I only sacrificed my lifespan, not anything else. My tail is still here.”
Her deliberately seductive tone made Xin Yao blush. She glared at her, then smiled.
“Good. I’ll reward it properly when we get back.”
“And what about me?”
“What kind of reward do you want?”
“I want to get married. I want to be with you forever.”
As they whispered to each other, Lao Xin and Pei Shuangshuang, still at odds, started bickering again.
Xin Wanyin, trying to force Liu Yue to give her a piggyback ride, jumped on her back, sending them both tumbling to the ground. They started arguing, almost coming to blows.
It was chaotic and noisy, but it was also real, a slice of human life.
Pei Yu held Xin Yao close.
“Let’s go home.”
Xin Yao hugged her back.
“Yes, let’s go home.”
Two years later.
Prison.
Xu Qing, convicted of attempted murder and corporate espionage, was serving a long sentence.
Unfortunately for him, his cellmate was a die-hard fan of Xin Wanyin. Learning that Xu Qing was her ex-boyfriend, the man who had manipulated and almost killed her sister, he made Xu Qing’s life a living hell.
Beatings were a daily occurrence.
Xu Qing spent his days in fear and pain, tormented by the memories of his crimes.
He couldn’t live, and he couldn’t die.
That same year.
A small, intimate wedding ceremony.
The venue was luxurious and elegant, but the guest list was short, almost nonexistent.
A bride with white hair, dressed in a beautiful white gown, stood at the end of the aisle, holding a bouquet, her fingers trembling slightly.
The doors opened, and another bride, also in a white gown, entered the room, bathed in the warm sunlight.
This bride, however, didn’t walk down the aisle. She ran, a bright smile on her face, towards the other bride.
“Pei Yu, I’m here!”
Pei Yu smiled, her arms opening wide, welcoming Xin Yao into her embrace.
As she held Xin Yao close, she held her love, her happiness, her everything.
In the audience, Pei Shuangshuang and Lao Xin, their past animosity forgotten, hugged each other, tears streaming down their faces.
Xin Wanyin, dressed in a white dress, a small dog plushie and a beautiful woman plushie pinned to her collar, ran towards Liu Yue, burying her face in her embrace, crying.
It was a beautiful day, the sunlight warm and bright, everything perfect, their happiness complete.
