Chapter 31: Transmigrated as the Abusive Story’s Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character
The secretary choked on her jianbing.
The assistant dropped their coffee cup.
The middle-aged director’s eyes widened.
The elderly board member fumbled for their reading glasses.
These were the top executives of Pei Corp, returning from a site visit, about to follow Pei Yu to a meeting on the top floor.
And they had just witnessed a young woman run into President Pei’s arms, sobbing.
A collective gasp echoed through the lobby.
What was going on?!
After a moment of stunned silence, the whispers began.
The assistant glanced at the secretary.
The secretary, her jaw still slack, looked back. “President Pei never talks to me! How would I know?”
The 5’3″ finance manager stood on tiptoe, craning their neck. “Move, move! I can’t see! Is President Pei in love?!”
A random employee gasped. “What?! President Pei isn’t a robot? She has a girlfriend?!”
The elderly board member, their hair as white as snow, also tried to join the gossip, “Who is that girl? She’s so brave!”
But their age and lack of social awareness earned them a collective ignore from the younger staff.
The crowd stood behind Xin Yao and Pei Yu, their gazes fixed on them, their whispers like a buzzing swarm of bees.
Xin Yao, still nestled in Pei Yu’s embrace, finally realized something was amiss and looked up.
She saw the curious stares of the onlookers, their gazes burning into her.
Her face flushed crimson. She hadn’t realized they had an audience!
She quickly buried her face in Pei Yu’s shoulder, mortified.
She had been so caught up in her emotions that she hadn’t noticed anyone else! How embarrassing!
Thankfully, she didn’t work at Pei Corp. Pei Yu could deal with the fallout!
Pei Yu, however, either oblivious to social cues or simply thick-skinned, didn’t seem the least bit embarrassed.
She was more concerned about Xin Yao’s emotional state, her brow furrowed as she gently rubbed Xin Yao’s back.
“Why are you crying? You could have just called me. I would have come to you.”
Xin Yao opened her mouth to speak, her gaze meeting the secretary’s, who was still holding a half-eaten jianbing.
Her embarrassment returned, her tears drying up. She pinched Pei Yu’s arm, subtly reminding her of the onlookers.
Xin Yao cared about what others thought. Pei Yu cared about Xin Yao’s feelings. She released Xin Yao from her embrace.
Then, she stepped in front of her, shielding her from the curious stares.
Looking down at her gossiping employees, then at Xin Yao hiding behind her, Pei Yu paused, then spoke, her voice calm and even.
“This is… my girlfriend, Xin Yao.”
The silence that followed was deafening. Someone’s jaw must have hit the floor.
Even Xin Yao was surprised. She looked at Pei Yu’s hand holding hers, at her strong, protective back, her heart skipping a beat.
She didn’t know what she was thinking, but in that moment, her eyes flickering, she didn’t deny it.
Xin Yao was surprised, but the Pei Corp employees were stunned.
It was true! She really was President Pei’s girlfriend!
So, even someone like President Pei could fall in love.
Witnessing this scene was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
Pei Yu, however, didn’t care what they thought. She was more concerned about why Xin Yao had come to her in tears. After her brief introduction, she nodded curtly.
“Today’s meeting is cancelled. Everyone, please get back to work.”
With that, she led Xin Yao away, leaving a group of stunned employees in her wake.
Inside Pei Yu’s office…
It wasn’t Xin Yao’s first time there, but last time, she had been emerging from under Pei Yu’s desk, filled with embarrassment.
This time, her feelings were different.
Concern for Pei Yu, shyness at being introduced as her girlfriend, and a mix of other emotions she couldn’t quite decipher.
It all culminated in a deep longing for Pei Yu.
Xin Yao freshened up in the office restroom, then sat down on the sofa, her eyes, still slightly red from crying, looking at Pei Yu.
Pei Yu, concerned, handed her a cup of warm tea, sitting beside her, her gaze soft and caring.
“What happened?”
Xin Yao held the warm cup in her hands, the steam and the fragrance of the tea calming her slightly. She recalled the visions she had seen.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at Pei Yu.
“I don’t know why, but last night, I was suddenly pulled into another time-reversal vision. I saw… your past.”
“Why,” her voice choked with emotion, “didn’t you tell me?”
Pei Yu paused, realizing what Xin Yao had seen.
A wave of emotions she couldn’t quite comprehend washed over her. Panic? Embarrassment? Helplessness?
She knew how pathetic and vulnerable she had been. She had never imagined Xin Yao seeing that side of her.
She had always found the saying “dress to impress” foolish, never caring about what others thought.
But now, she understood its meaning, even feeling a twinge of fear.
She wanted to appear strong and capable in front of the person she loved.
But Xin Yao’s gentle, concerned gaze calmed her.
Pei Yu had a perfect memory, recalling every detail of her past. And she never lied. But now, she said softly, “I’ve forgotten all of that. It’s in the past.”
Xin Yao set down her teacup, her hand reaching out to take Pei Yu’s, her eyes filled with sadness and compassion.
“But even if it’s in the past, it must have been painful.”
“I didn’t know what pain was back then,” Pei Yu shook her head. “Those cries… I was just imitating humans, hoping they would stop.”
Her words only made Xin Yao’s heart ache even more. She held Pei Yu’s hand tightly, speechless.
After a moment of silence, she suddenly remembered something.
“Then… about your parents… did you know?”
Pei Yu nodded. “I knew.”
The Sacred Seal within her had given her access to all her memories, from the moment of her birth.
Her father’s death, her mother’s fear and rejection, she knew it all.
But perhaps she truly was a heartless monster. She had watched her own story unfold like a movie, a detached observer, feeling nothing.
She didn’t care, but Xin Yao did. She tightened her grip on Pei Yu’s hand.
“What is this ‘cursed child’ the Taoist priest mentioned?”
Pei Yu shook her head. “I don’t know.”
After answering, she fidgeted nervously, her fingers trembling slightly in Xin Yao’s hand, her knuckles white in the soft light.
She looked at Xin Yao, her voice a soft whisper.
“Are you afraid? Or angry that I didn’t tell you?”
Xin Yao, however, wasn’t bothered by it. She patted Pei Yu’s hand reassuringly.
“Condemning someone based on some vague curse… I think they’re the ones with the problem.”
“But will that Taoist priest come looking for trouble?”
Xin Yao’s touch calmed Pei Yu’s anxiety. Her eyelashes still fluttered slightly, but her expression relaxed.
“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you. Even if he comes, I can handle him.”
“You’re still joking,” Xin Yao chuckled. “But why did I suddenly have that vision last night?”
Instead of answering directly, Pei Yu took Xin Yao’s hand and placed it on her chest.
“The Sacred Seal is here. It seems it wanted you to see that.”
Xin Yao’s gaze followed her hand, resting on Pei Yu’s heart.
“Why would it want me to see that?”
“It said,” Pei Yu’s eyes shimmered in the soft light, “perhaps having witnessed so much sorrow and loss on the mountain, with my father still buried there, it wanted to see a happy ending.”
A happy ending?
Xin Yao’s ears turned pink. “You’re making that up.”
“I’m not. That’s what it said.” Then, surprisingly, Pei Yu started comforting Xin Yao. “But when I was young, I sometimes heard someone crying beside me.”
“Was that you?”
Time was a strange and wondrous thing.
So, even back then, when she had felt so alone and unloved, someone from the future had been grieving for her.
Xin Yao’s eyes widened in surprise.
“You heard me?”
“Yes,” Pei Yu said softly. “So, even back then, someone cared about me. There’s nothing to be sad about.”
Despite her casual tone, her gaze was fixed on Xin Yao, as if seeking confirmation.
The monster didn’t dare to ask for love, only for acknowledgment.
And Xin Yao, always optimistic and supportive, would always offer reassurance, never hesitating to offer comfort and support.
So, meeting Pei Yu’s gaze, she replied firmly, “Yes, you are loved.”
“My Pei Yu, you were born in love.”
Pei Yu looked down at Xin Yao, her eyes softening, almost drowning in the warmth of her gaze.
Unlike her childhood struggle for survival, this was a surrender she welcomed.
Her voice, barely above a whisper, was soft.
“Miss Xin, may I have a kiss?”
It was a request Xin Yao couldn’t refuse. She leaned forward and kissed Pei Yu gently.
Their lips brushed against each other, a soft, lingering touch, the warmth of their skin, the softness of their lips, the gentle caress of their breaths mingling.
Pei Yu’s kiss was tender and cautious, as if afraid of breaking the spell.
It was Xin Yao who deepened the kiss, wanting to reassure the little monster that she was indeed loved and cherished.
Her lips pressed against Pei Yu’s, her touch growing more insistent, the soft pressure leaving a faint red mark on Pei Yu’s usually unblemished skin.
She even nipped at Pei Yu’s lip, her playful bites like a love-struck rabbit’s.
Pei Yu didn’t resist, surrendering to Xin Yao’s touch, letting her take the lead.
Emboldened, Xin Yao pushed Pei Yu back against the sofa, straddling her, her legs wrapping around Pei Yu’s slender waist.
She cupped Pei Yu’s face in her hands, gazing at her with a soft smile before kissing her again.
Pei Yu tilted her head back, her fingers gently tracing Xin Yao’s waist, surrendering to her embrace.
Twenty minutes later, Pei Yu’s secretary stood nervously outside her office, knocking softly on the door.
She hadn’t wanted to come, but her colleagues had urged her to, suggesting she bring coffee to the future Mrs. Pei, a gesture of goodwill.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. So, armed with a cup of coffee, she had arrived at President Pei’s office.
But no one answered her knock.
She was stuck, unsure whether to leave or try again.
Just as she raised her hand to knock again, the door opened.
Pei Yu, dressed in a black coat, stood in the doorway, her hand on the doorframe, half her face hidden in the shadows, looking down at her.
The look in her eyes, the secretary couldn’t quite describe it, but she felt as if she was about to be vaporized.

Pei Yu’s expression was impassive, her appearance seemingly unchanged.
But upon closer inspection, the secretary noticed that the top two buttons of her shirt were undone, and her tie was slightly askew.
Her voice, colder than usual, echoed in the hallway.
“Is something the matter?”
The secretary, terrified, her hand trembling, stammered, “P-President Pei, please brush your teeth.”
Pei Yu raised an eyebrow.
The secretary’s trembling intensified.
“I mean, President Pei, please have some tea!”
Pei Yu looked down at the coffee in her hand.
The secretary was on the verge of tears.
Just then, Xin Yao emerged from the office.
She peeked out, then gently took the coffee from the secretary, her voice soft and polite.
“Thank you. You can give it to me.”
In that moment, the secretary felt like she had seen an angel.
But then she noticed a faint lipstick stain on Xin Yao’s collarbone, just below the neckline of her shirt.
Realizing she had stumbled upon a secret, the secretary quickly retreated, her legs trembling, not daring to look back.
After the secretary left, Xin Yao closed the door, took a sip of coffee, and glanced at Pei Yu, whose expression was slightly sullen, having been interrupted.
She couldn’t help but chuckle.
“President Pei, you’re a bit too serious.”
The serious President Pei didn’t reply. She took the coffee cup from Xin Yao’s hand, placed it on the desk, then, without warning, cupped Xin Yao’s face and kissed her.
Xin Yao was pressed against the door, her arms wrapping around Pei Yu’s neck, surrendering to the coffee-flavored kiss.
Between kisses, she traced Pei Yu’s lips with her fingertip, a playful smile on her face.
“President Pei, you’re so fierce. I’m almost scared.”
The simple words were enough to make the fierce President Pei forget all about work.
