72. Don’t Fight Because of Me!
After the class meetings, everyone went back to organize their dorms.
Ruo Xiaoxi, having already unpacked, stayed in the classroom, meticulously labeling her new textbooks.
The students had scattered, leaving the classroom empty and quiet.
“Ruo Xiaoxi!” Two figures appeared at the doorway.
“Huh?” She looked up to see Xia Zhibai and Yin Huixue waving at her.
“What’s up, Sister Xia? And Senior Yin?” Ruo Xiaoxi put down her pen, stood up, and walked towards the door.
Yin Huixue stepped forward. “Just came to see you, my cute junior.”
Xia Zhibai, about to speak, closed her mouth and glared at Yin Huixue. Always stirring things up! If she weren’t her best friend, she’d have punched her by now.
“Me? Is there something interesting about me? By the way, why are you two together?”
“Us? We’re both in the Student Council, and we’re classmates in Class 6. She’s the Student Council President, and I’m her trusty assistant, the Communist Youth League Secretary,” Yin Huixue explained.
Xia Zhibai crossed her arms. “Xue’er is usually quite reliable, but I don’t know what happened today. Ever since she met a certain junior, she seems to have developed a mischievous streak, enjoying my embarrassment a little too much.”
“Oh, Sister Xue must be so busy welcoming all the new students. It wasn’t intentional.”
“Huh? Did you know the junior I was talking about is you?” Xia Zhibai’s forehead twitched. Whose side was her own girlfriend on?
Yin Huixue chuckled. The junior’s words were so sweetly manipulative, yet so pleasant to hear. People said green tea girls were masters of deception, but who didn’t like sweet-talking girls?
No wonder Zhibai was having such a hard time. Winning over such a cute girl wouldn’t be easy.
“Sigh, whatever. Here’s your day-student pass. You can use it to leave campus through the main gate, but you have to be back before morning reading the next day.”
“A day-student pass!? Thank you, Sister Xia!” Ruo Xiaoxi took the card, which displayed her name and photo. It was valid for the entire first year.
Perfect! She needed this.
She had to go home tonight to collect her wages from the children’s clothing store. That was her textbook money.
“So happy, aren’t you? Shouldn’t you show your gratitude somehow?” Xia Zhibai bent down, tapping her cheek with her finger.
Ruo Xiaoxi blinked, glancing at Yin Huixue, who was watching with an expectant and curious expression.
The senior seemed more intrigued than anything, like someone eager to sample a new tea.
“Mwah!” Ruo Xiaoxi stood on tiptoe, taking advantage of the empty hallway to kiss Xia Zhibai’s cheek. Clutching the day-student pass, she beamed. “Thank you, Sister Xia!”
“What about me? What about me? I want a kiss too! I can’t just stand here watching you two be lovey-dovey.”
“You? No way. Don’t be nosy,” Xia Zhibai pushed Yin Huixue away. What was she trying to pull?
“Hee hee.” Ruo Xiaoxi giggled mischievously. She wasn’t stingy with her kisses. Her alluring eyes seemed to whisper to Yin Huixue, If you want one, earn it with your affection later~
Ruo Xiaoxi told herself she was simply being polite, responding to the senior’s gaze. With Sister Xia around, she wouldn’t flirt with other girls. As for any misunderstandings, it was definitely her own captivating eyes that were to blame!
Caught in that gaze, Yin Huixue gulped, feeling a pang of envy.
She suddenly envied Xia Zhibai for having such a beautiful girlfriend, even if they weren’t officially together yet. It seemed pretty much inevitable.
Wow, she understood now! This was Ruo Xiaoxi!
“Sister, there are plenty of girls better than me. I’m sure you’ll find someone you like, whether it’s a boy or a girl. And you’re so gentle, like when you pinched my cheeks in the dorm…”
“Hmm? What? She pinched your cheeks in the dorm?” Xia Zhibai’s senses sharpened.
“Yes, Sister said I was cute and pinched my cheeks…” Ruo Xiaoxi clasped her hands behind her back, looking as innocent as a child.
Xia Zhibai slowly turned a murderous gaze towards Yin Huixue, growling, “Xue’er—”
A chill ran down Yin Huixue’s spine, and she forced a smile, raising her hands defensively.
“Ahaha! Well, now that you mention it… Why bring this up now? Look, I just couldn’t resist! Her cheeks were so soft and pinchable! Whoa, hey, no hitting…!”
Xia Zhibai and Yin Huixue started play-fighting, Yin Huixue backing away towards the railing.
“Hey! Sister Xia, Sister Xue! Sister Xue only pinched my cheeks, nothing else! Don’t be angry, Sister Xia!” Ruo Xiaoxi stamped her foot anxiously, fanning the flames.
“If Xue’er tries anything else, I’ll spank her so hard her butt will be swollen!”
“You can’t fight because of me! We’re all good friends! We’re not fake friends!”
“Oh my god, Xiaoxi, please spare me! I was wrong! Stop talking!” Yin Huixue, pinned against the railing, let out a series of distressed giggles. Ruo Xiaoxi practically cheered them on from the sidelines.
Hee hee~ Ruo Xiaoxi stuck out her tongue.
She’d said she was closed for business today! Did they really think they could sample her tea so easily? Maybe when she was feeling peckish…
Just as Ruo Xiaoxi was congratulating herself on her little scheme and preparing to sneak away, Xia Zhibai seemed to catch on, freezing mid-fight.
Suddenly, Ruo Xiaoxi stiffened, feeling two pairs of eyes burning into her back, sending shivers down her spine.
“Ruo… Xiao… Xi!” Xia Zhibai approached menacingly.
Ruo Xiaoxi turned to face the looming shadow, forcing a nervous laugh. “W-we should be happy on the first day of school! A little playful fighting is fun, r-right?!”
“I’ll go back to the dorm now! I just remembered I haven’t finished unpacking! Bye!”
Ruo Xiaoxi bolted, a master of the art of running away. Xia Zhibai could easily catch her, but mindful of her position at school, she held back.
“You little rascal. Calling you lively is an understatement.”
If they were at home, she’d pin her down on the sofa, stare into her teary eyes, and whisper, demanding to know if she dared to be mischievous again, and then administer some loving punishment.
Xia Zhibai leaned against the doorframe, hand on her hip, shaking her head. But despite herself, she couldn’t help but smile at Ruo Xiaoxi’s playful antics.
Knowing she couldn’t outrun Sister Xia, Ruo Xiaoxi ran without looking back, her chest heaving.
She bumped into Lan Yinuo, who was just returning from the dorm. Nuonuo stared at the sprinting Ruo Xiaoxi, bewildered. “Xiaoxi? Why are you running so fast? Did you do something wrong?”
“I don’t know! Run! If I get caught this time, I’m definitely getting it!”
Ruo Xiaoxi didn’t have time to explain, scooping up Nuonuo and carrying her towards the dorm.
“W-wait! I, I just left the dorm…” The innocent Nuonuo, perched on Ruo Xiaoxi’s shoulder, cried out in despair. Just a few steps from the classroom, she was being carried back.
