Shion’s Notes 79

Chapter 79: You Lied to Me

What were they like in the past? The memories were a bit blurry.

She only knew their relationship used to be very good. How good? Someone bought an ice cream bar, and they could lick the same one together. And whenever the blonde girl had no money for food, the other person would always find suitable reasons to take her home for meals.

And whenever she couldn’t find a new job and life became difficult, there would always be someone by her side, deliberately saying they didn’t want to go home these few days and wanted to eat her cooking, then go buy groceries themselves and cook at her place.

It was also this person who always came out to protect her when someone troubled her, not letting anyone hurt her. When boys tried to bully her relying on their local advantage, this person ruthlessly beat them up.

The person who protected her was named Nangong Ying. The person Yu Linna trusted most in the first half of her life.
She believed so strongly that Nangong Ying would always protect her, never changing. She believed it so much.
Even if the whole world betrayed her, Nangong Ying wouldn’t betray her. She once thought so.

But…
Now it seemed that wasn’t the case.

When she left the company, she made several calls to Nangong Ying, but Nangong Ying never answered. Perhaps she was avoiding something. Nangong Ying had disappeared.

The sky was gray today, seeming like it was about to rain. Walking on this road, Yu Linna lost her direction. She suddenly found that she seemed unable to distinguish which one was Nangong Ying. The Nangong Ying she knew and the Nangong Ying she was aware of seemed different.
Why was this?

She arrived at Nangong Ying’s doorstep, pressed the doorbell. Nangong Ying’s mother, Zhang Jing, opened the door. Seeing this blonde girl, she couldn’t help but smile.

“Isn’t this Little Nana? It’s rare for you to come play at my house. Come in quickly.”

Zhang Jing liked Yu Linna very much. She liked her from the first time her daughter brought this child home. This child was well-behaved, sensible, and very polite. Which family wouldn’t like her? Especially after learning about her background, she felt both pity and affection for her, even wanting to adopt her.
But Yu Linna was such a sensible child; she knew she could never integrate into another family, so she preferred not to disturb their peace.

“I’m not here to play. I want to find Nangong. Is she home?”

“You mean Xiao Ying? She’s not here. She went out filming a long time ago. I haven’t heard from her recently either. Do you know where she went?”

It seemed Zhang Jing also didn’t know Nangong Ying’s whereabouts. This further indicated that Nangong Ying losing contact was intentional. She was hiding from Yu Linna.

Things probably became clear. Yu Linna thought about the indenture contract she signed. Nangong Ying probably played a role in pushing it. Think back to the beginning. If Nangong Ying hadn’t instigated it, would she have fallen into the chess game step by step and signed that contract? With her mindset of not daring to take risks at that time, she absolutely wouldn’t have dared to sign. But with Nangong Ying’s words, she still signed it.
Nangong Ying said that as long as she became famous, she would have the chance to find her blood relatives in this world. She deeply believed this.

When a person is lonely for a long time, they think about finding their bloodline. She had been alone since her previous life, and felt even more lonely in this life. After a long time, she always wanted to find her bloodline, at least to know where she came from.
She didn’t expect to be recognized after finding her relatives. At least she wanted to know who she really was, where she came from, who gave her the mixed-race appearance.
Just simply wanting to find her roots.
Who could have thought that this simple wish would be used by someone, and by her best friend at that?
Besides the best friend, who else could know the weakness deep in her heart?

“Thank you, Auntie. I’m leaving.”

“Little Nana, where are you going? Won’t you come in and sit for a while? Auntie has delicious cake!”

“No, thank you for Auntie’s kindness. I have something to do. I’ll come again next time.”

She chose to leave. This place couldn’t give her what she wanted.
Perhaps, she would never come here again.

When she learned she was used by Nangong Ying, her heart broke, completely shattered. She really couldn’t understand why Nangong Ying would do this. She knew Nangong Ying so well; she shouldn’t have done this.
She couldn’t figure it out.

She took the initiative to ask around and finally found out that Nangong Ying was currently filming on set. Looking at the time on her phone, it was around five o’clock now, still some time before work ended. She had time to go find her after she finished work.

The girl started running, heading towards the set where Nangong Ying was. Nangong Ying’s crew had now moved to the outskirts of Guangnan City to film a scene. Today was the last day of their stay. Yu Linna called a motorcycle taxi to get there. The cold wind on the road whipped against her face, but no matter how cold the wind, it couldn’t compare to the coldness in her heart.

She rushed to the set, but the staff wouldn’t let her in. She got anxious, showed her identity as an artist under Orange River, and her identity as Nangong Ying’s friend. Only after the staff checked her information did they let her in.

At this time, Nangong Ying’s scenes had finished filming. Today’s shooting work was also over; the crew wrapped up. She was just thinking of going back to rest well when she received news from her agent:
“Yu Linna came looking for you. She’s right outside the set.”

!–

The hand holding the towel to wipe sweat trembled slightly, her face also turning unpleasant. She hadn’t expected this day to come so quickly, completely unprepared. It just came.

“Should we send her away?”

“…Don’t send her away yet. I’ll go sit in the lounge for a while. Give her some money, politely ask her to leave.”

She still couldn’t bring herself to be ruthless.
Towards Yu Linna, she had feelings after all; she couldn’t just throw them away. No matter what, she was her friend, the friend she swore to protect for a lifetime.

Nangong Ying escaped, hiding in the lounge, locking the door tightly. At this time, most of the staff in the crew had gone off duty, the actors had also finished work early and gone for dinner. Not many people were left in the crew. Therefore, a slightly louder voice could be heard.

“No! I don’t want money! I want to see Nangong!”

A girl’s roar came from the studio.
The agent lady took out a stack of cash to dismiss her, but Yu Linna refused to accept it no matter what. She only wanted to see Nangong Ying, nothing else.

“Miss, Miss Nangong has already finished work. She’s not here.”

“I don’t believe it! Nangong, come out! Come out!!”

She shouted hoarsely, calling her name, but the other person wouldn’t respond.
Nangong Ying hid in the lounge, the door locked from the inside. She sat there, covering her ears, pretending not to hear.

Yu Linna slapped away the agent lady’s hand, rushed outside. She rushed to the lounge door, looked at the tightly locked door, fluorescence flashing in her eyes.

“Are you there, Nangong…”

Nangong Ying didn’t dare to respond. She was afraid, afraid of being discovered by Yu Linna.
She had already done something irreversible. She knew she would never be forgiven. She really didn’t have the face to see Yu Linna anymore.
Having done such an excessive thing, yet still wanting forgiveness, how could such a thing be possible?
She knew it; she could never get her forgiveness.

“Nangong, answer me. Come out. Tell me, you’re inside…”

Yu Linna’s voice was a bit hoarse, her vocal cords already trembling, faintly hearing her crying.
Yu Linna was a crybaby, she knew it. No matter when she cried, she felt it was normal. But only this time, when she cried, Nangong Ying felt a suffocating pain.
Her heart felt like it was being squeezed, the feeling of suffocation oppressing her. So uncomfortable, so painful.
Only today did she realize how much she couldn’t bear to see her tears. Before, when she cried, she felt nothing, but only today, she felt heartache.

Linna, don’t cry. When you cry, I feel bad too. I beg you, don’t cry…
Nangong Ying clutched her head, tears also falling drop by drop.

“Nangong, they said you tricked me into joining Orange River, said you used me. It’s ridiculous, right? How could such a thing happen? Nangong, you care about me the most, right? You wouldn’t do that kind of thing. You said you would protect me. Tell me, am I right…”

She once said she would protect her. She always remembered how brilliant the smile was on that girl’s face.
She regarded her as the most sincere friend, trusting her for a lifetime. But she didn’t deserve it.

“Nangong, can you come out? I’ll listen to everything you say. As long as you say those are lies, I’ll believe you immediately.”

This was already impossible.
Nangong Ying silently cried, her heart feeling like it was being shredded. How could she be so selfish? How could she treat her like this?
Yu Linna was her friend, the person she had the most feelings for. She even had feelings beyond friendship for her.
How could she treat her like this?

“Nangong…”

As she spoke, Yu Linna’s voice weakened, becoming even hoarser. Perhaps she understood that no matter what she said, she couldn’t make Nangong Ying come out.
In her heart, there was only despair.

“Why did you lie to me, Nangong? Why did you lie to me? How could you do this to me…”

Finally, Yu Linna spoke the words she least wanted to hear. At this moment, Nangong Ying’s heart shattered to the extreme, but she endured, not letting herself make a sound.

“Nangong, you lied to me! How could you lie to me! You promised! You said if I became famous, I could find my relatives! You lied to me! I can’t possibly become famous! I can’t be a star! You lied to me! You’re too much! Why did you do this to me, waaaaaah!!!”

Yu Linna cried loudly outside the door, tears covering her small face, her voice heartbreaking. She was already desperate, all that remained was collapse.
She couldn’t believe that the person she trusted most had actually betrayed her.

“Nangong, don’t leave me! Don’t sell me! I don’t want to be sold! I want you to protect me! I don’t want you to leave me! Wuwuwuwu…”

She cried, shouted, and at the same time, broke the other’s heart.
Yu Linna had suffered her whole life, gaining nothing. Wandering since childhood, never tasting a trace of warmth. Finally finding warmth from Nangong, yet it was ruthlessly cut off.

Nangong Ying leaned against the door, silently shedding tears. Her heart also felt terrible, cut by a thousand knives. She would rather be the one injured than hear her crying.
For her dream, she actually hurt the person she should cherish most. The person she should protect most was the one hurt the deepest.

“Nangong, don’t leave me! Don’t leave me! I don’t want to be superior anymore! I don’t want to be a star anymore! I just want you! Can you come out…”

She was like a small child, crying and shouting loudly, like a child who had lost its parents’ embrace.
But no matter how she shouted, how she fussed, she would never see Nangong Ying’s figure. Finally, she understood. Nangong Ying wouldn’t come back. She had gone to a place far, far away. And that place, no matter how hard she tried, she could never reach that shore.

“Wuwuwuwuwuwu…!”

She wailed loudly, probably the most fiercely she had cried in this life.
It was unknown how long she cried. The crying gradually faded. When the agent lady opened the lounge door again, she saw Nangong Ying curled up in the corner, hugging herself.
Nangong Ying was crying secretly. Although she didn’t cry out loud, she had also cried herself into tears.

They had finally reached the end…
