Chapter 222: “Cheap” Goodwill
“Can I go back now?”
Ottovia quickly hid behind Kailun, seeking a strange sense of security from the human. Compared to the annoying Kailun, she feared Carol more. It was like encountering her nemesis, her very soul trembling.
Instinct screamed that if she fell into Carol’s hands, her fate would be unimaginably horrific.
This feeling was so real, as if she had experienced it firsthand.
In a blink, she envisioned herself as raw material for a colossal magic circle, being relentlessly consumed until the last drop of her essence was drained.
She clung to Kailun’s clothes, fear gripping her heart, not even daring to glance at Carol.
“Looks familiar… Is she the legendary Ottovia?” Carol pondered, trying to recall. “I feel like I’ve seen her before, but I can’t remember where. And why do my hands itch? She seems… like good material?”
Carol hesitated slightly when she uttered the word “material.” It felt strange, as she wouldn’t normally consider a living being as material.
“Not material…” Ottovia wanted to retort, but she dared not speak loudly, her mumbled protest barely audible.
Seeing this, Kailun grew even more curious. He desperately wanted to know what had happened in his previous life, why Ottovia was so terrified.
Her reaction reminded him of Helena, the assassin girl from the Temple of the Celestial God.
However, unlike Helena, Carol didn’t seem to harbor any malice towards Ottovia. It was more like an indifference towards a tool.
This discovery sparked more speculation in Kailun’s mind. Setting aside Fate for now, Ottovia was very likely the loser in a power struggle.
How tragic.
He wanted to write the word “tragic” in large letters on Ottovia’s inner thighs.
“Go on, sit next to Carol. We need to talk about business now. If you behave, I can give you a bottle of Holy Water.”
Kailun stepped aside, exposing Ottovia to Carol’s gaze.
“No, I don’t want it anymore. Please let me go back.” Ottovia nervously fidgeted with her skirt, even retracting her sharp fangs, looking like an obedient little girl.
She tried to move closer to Kailun, her anxiety evident without his protection.
“That’s not possible. You’re the main character today.”
Kailun shook his head and pressed down on Ottovia’s shoulders, pushing her towards Carol. “If you don’t want to sit next to Carol, you can only sit on my lap. We have limited chairs here.”
Ottovia glanced at the chairs around the table. There was indeed one for each person, but that wasn’t the point.
She looked at Kailun as if he were an idiot. “I can move the chair closer.”
“Oh, your little brain is quite quick. You’re a bit smarter than Shirley. But that’s not allowed.” Amused by Ottovia’s look, Kailun picked her up by the back of her neck and carried her towards Carol.
Ottovia panicked and kicked her short legs in the air. “I understand, I understand! I’ll go with you!”
Despite being bullied by Kailun, Ottovia’s goodwill rating didn’t decrease because her fear of Carol far outweighed her dislike for Kailun.
No comparison, no harm. Compared to Carol, Kailun was incredibly kind and approachable.
‘I want to bury myself in a hidden patch of black soil and disappear for the next hundred thousand years…’ Ottovia thought to herself.
Carol smiled kindly at Ottovia, playing along with Kailun. “What a scaredy-cat.”
“Ugh…” Seeing Kailun’s cold smile, Ottovia felt even more certain about her choice.
Kailun carried Ottovia back to his seat and placed her on his lap without any inappropriate actions.
His seriousness made Ottovia sigh in relief. She had thought he would humiliate her, like writing tally marks on her inner thighs.
[Frightened, Ottovia feels a slight sense of security from you. Goodwill +1, Total Goodwill -85]
This unexpected increase in goodwill amused Kailun. He felt like he had discovered the unlucky entity’s weakness.
He turned to Illusion, who had been observing Ottovia. “Do you have anything to say?”
Illusion shook her head. “Although I know a lot about this unlucky entity, I can’t say anything. You know, I shouldn’t exist, so I can’t tell you what I know. Otherwise, it might cause unforeseen changes. These changes might affect the final outcome… Forget it, you should ask Fox.”
Illusion had a lot to say but couldn’t utter a word. Seeing Kailun again had already fulfilled her wish.
Everything now was a twisted reality, a real world where the previous life had become a dreamlike “nothingness,” completely destroyed in the darkness, with no possibility of reversal.
Carol had made many preparations, her plans intricate and flawless, even Fox couldn’t find any flaws.
Everything from the previous life had been destroyed, both people and memories.
It was only through destruction that they could start anew. Fox’s actions had converged all the important fate lines onto Kailun. This was the key.
The unlucky entity, Ottovia, had been completely controlled by Carol. She had become the key to reversing everything. She was truly tragic, almost drained of all her value.
However, Illusion didn’t blame Carol. After all, she was also one of the “villains.”
Setting aside other matters for now, she couldn’t say more.
According to their previous theoretical analysis, the existence of observers would influence the world’s direction, causing certain individuals to be severely restricted. These “certain individuals” mainly included Kailun and Fox.
The former had died before the world’s destruction and shouldn’t exist. The latter had paid a heavy price in her pursuit of Fate and should have also disappeared completely.
If she remembered correctly, Fox should have lost all sense of existence, becoming someone like Helena.
Thankfully, Kailun had died early and knew very little. Otherwise, there would be huge loopholes in their theory.
Speaking of Helena, Illusion shivered. Helena had been ruthlessly destroyed by Carol for killing Bella, not even her “name” remaining.
But now, many unexpected changes had occurred. The current Fox had only lost her talent, and Helena had barely retained her name.
Her own appearance had disrupted the original plan, making everything unpredictable. Every time she thought about it, she felt a twinge of guilt. But as long as she saw Kailun, this guilt would be quickly replaced by other emotions.
No one could predict everything, not even Carol and Fox. So her role was to give Kailun a push at crucial moments.
“Ask me? I just think she’s familiar and easy to bully. I don’t know anything else.”
Fox shrugged, looking at Ottovia with envy. If it weren’t for everyone else’s presence, Kailun’s lap would be hers.
Afra added, “I don’t feel any familiarity. Except for yesterday, this should be the first time I’ve seen her.”
Kailun finally turned to Isabella. The petite girl, while enjoying her dessert, replied, “She’s special. The fate lines on her body are all black. It’s a miracle that she’s still alive today. As expected of a transcendent entity from ten thousand years ago. I’ve learned something new.”
Ottovia: “…”
She licked her fangs, wanting to bite Isabella.
Was it her fault for being unlucky? She was born this way!
“So what do you want to ask?” Ottovia turned to look at Kailun.
Kailun cupped her small face with his hands and turned her to face Carol. “First, of course, I want to ask about Fate. Tell me everything you know about her. If you can tell me one or two of her weaknesses, I’ll reward you handsomely.”
“Oh, you want to know Fate’s weaknesses? No problem, I’ll tell you…”
Hearing that Kailun wanted to know Fate’s weaknesses, she didn’t hesitate and started talking. If she could see Kailun and Fate fight each other, she might even jump for joy.
She hoped they would both perish, leaving her as the only transcendent entity.
Just as Ottovia, lost in her fantasy, smiled, she met Carol’s gaze. “I… I’m done.”
Her mood plummeted once again. She snuggled into Kailun’s arms, avoiding Carol’s gaze.

Kailun gave Carol an appreciative look. Although the little maid was becoming more and more cunning, her heart was still with him.
After listening to Ottovia’s story about Fate, Kailun learned more information, including how they had joined forces to kill the entity who had mastered space, and how they had become enemies.
One crucial piece of information was that Fate had performed a super divination ten thousand years ago. Fate had said that Ottovia’s existence would lead to the world’s destruction.
Looking back now, Kailun felt that this might have been a huge misunderstanding.
It was true that the world’s destruction was related to Ottovia, but the true culprit was most likely Carol, the final boss who had destroyed the world.
So the question was, in all those divinations, which came first, the cause or the effect?
With this question in mind, Kailun turned to Isabella, who had the title of “Fate Weaver.” “Fate’s divination can’t be completely trusted. But do you think it’s possible that it was the result of the divination that led to the final destruction?”
Isabella’s hand froze in mid-air. She first glanced at Fox, then at Illusion. Images flashed through her mind.
But she couldn’t grasp them. The fleeting memories were like shooting stars, disappearing without a trace.
“Under normal circumstances, the results of divination can be changed, unless it’s an absolute certainty, like human death. Divination can predict human death and change the cause and process, but death itself is inevitable. Living beings can’t live forever, and the final result of divination will always point to death. But I think this kind of divination is meaningless and difficult to achieve. If it were that entity, it might be possible.”
Isabella spoke at length, sharing her years of experience.
“I don’t believe it anyway. Humans can’t live forever, but I can.” Ottovia proudly crossed her arms.
But as soon as she finished speaking, she saw Carol’s eyes flashing green. Startled, she hid in Kailun’s arms again.
